Child star success stories: Dad and Mom didn't quit their day jobs

Thanks to her Mom's diligence, child star Tatyana Ali

grew into a well-adjusted adult.
The Chicago Tribune sat down with three former child stars to try to find out just what it was about their childhoods that led these well-adjusted adults to schools like Harvard and on to successful careers.

Among some of the common denominators:

  • Parents didn't quit their mediocre day jobs. (Kate has apparently kissed nursing goodbye.)
  • The kids were driven by their own childhood passions, not their parents' ambitions. (It was obviously not an 18-month-old's idea to star in a T.V. show)
  • Parents encouraged their kids to pursue other interests outside of fame, like swimming for example. (Kate seems to do a lot of encouraging of school plays.)
  • Parents were on set at all times watching out for their children's well-being instead of schmoozing for their own benefit. (The Gosselin children were filmed several times without a parent on set)
  • Parents supported forward thinking kids who can move on smoothly from their famous past. "It's important to realize that it's something to be very proud of, but also to realize that it's in the past and to strive for something in the future," said tennis champ Tracy Austin. (Kate seems to be stuck in the past, constantly reliving filmed vacations, episodes, and creating new "episodes" in her head which she then plays out on Twitter and her blog for her fans.)

This is an encouraging article and I think one of the most important thing these parents did was NOT QUIT THEIR DAY JOBS.

That prevents so much confusion. That tells a kid, I am responsible for our family, not you. There is no bizarre role reversal where the kid supports the family. It takes the pressure off a kid to not screw up because the family is depending on you. It keeps a kid GROUNDED and in the real world of real mediocre jobs, not some fantasy celebrity world where everyone loafs around. It sends the message that you stick to your commitments and you don't just give things up on a whim, and that acting is often fleeting will not be forever but a good mediocre job can be stable.

Well done, good parents. It's not because of you we need better child labor laws.

    Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The sheeple love to say SEE lots of child stars turned out just fine. Yes, because of their good parents! There is a REASON some child stars turned out okay. And wouldn't you know it, Kate is not doing ANYTHING these parents did right.

    Westcoaster said...

Agree. But the real difference is that in Gosselin world, Kate wants to be the Star, it's never about the kids, no matter what she says, does or twits. The kids are more grounded, sad what she has done and continues to do to them.

    Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Exactly Westcoaster which is the cardinal rule outlined in this article, The kids were driven by their own childhood passions, not their parents' ambitions.

Obviously this entire thing was orchestrated by Kate from the beginning under the LIE the children just love and want to do this. It is PAINFULLY (used correctly here) obvious that the kids aren't all that interested in this at all. She is the ultimate in a stage mom. Now, to her slight credit, she did make a valiant effort to try to have a career without those pesky kids tagging along. But at the end of the day she realized that shit ain't happening, so she's gone right back to exploiting the kids again. They are all over her blog, her tweets, tied up in the cruise, and none of them seem to have more than a passing interest in this lifestyle. It's sick.

The best thing a parent can do for a child actor/reality tv show "participant" is to reinforce to them that it is virtually certain that this is a phase that will end. No matter the trips, the money, the attention and the fans you have right now, it will go away and you will have to return to a normal life.
Kate resisted this reality tooth and nail. She was at a loss for words when she appeared on The Talk and was asked what she was planning to do once the show was over. She was speechless and could only deflect and justify what she was doing by waggling her finger at the audience with the admonition "you would do it too".
In Kate's own words, the kids were suffering at the time that she relentlessly pushed intensive filming of Kate Plus 8. While she claimed that they didn't like going over Jon's and wanted to be in their own beds, and play with their own toys, she was denying them that very comfort by having them travel whenever they were not in school, and even took them out of school to make episodes for money.
It is even more obvious now, why Jon pushed so hard to stop/limit filming. I'm sure it flattened him financially to fight Kate in court.
While the stakes for La Fair were significant financially, Jon had no choice but to press on for the good of his children.
Although I'm not privy to the particulars of Jon's progress, and don't want to be, I'm happy that his childrens' lives appear to be moving towards a happy, normal medium.

Kate's marketing her swollen uterus to Discovery was unique, I am hesitant to believe it would ever happen again.
I didn't watch this show when it started, I was raising my own kids and had no desire to watch someone else raise theirs.
As their show evolved,it appeared to focus more on the dysfunctional dynamic of the parents, primarily Kate. Viewers started watching just to watch crazy Kate, then the marriage meltdown, etc.
If Kate wants the limelight, that is fine with me, just don't use her fake mom persona to attain that. Don't talk about the kids, the dogs, her ex, her whatever. Kate, bring to the table whatever talent you have and see if it works.Twist of Kate was supposed to be that vehicle, but I guess she just proved too difficult to work with and had no real talent to develop.

I don't know why young kids like the ones written about in the above article wanted to act, to perform, sing, whatever. But the key to what they do, is that they aren't living their lives in front of the camera, they are singing a song, or performing a role, not doing real-life potty training or other private, personal learning experiences.

Now with all that said, what about the child actors we have today? I hardly think the twins used on Full House years ago wanted to 'act'..what about all those babies that are used in movies and other means of entertainment? I would have to question the intent of any parent that wanted their baby on a tv show...who are they really doing it for?? (One case in point is Brooke Shields, she has worked as an infant. True, she did go to college, has had a somewhat normal life, but her mother was the one that started her career...why would a mom do that?

I missed that there was a new post. Hope it's ok to bring this over, Admin. If not, please delete.

Very good point about Ashley. I remember thinking at the time that it was an odd thing to say, if you'd hadn't had some experience with *someone* saying the opposite about someone else. Yet another glimpse into their "real" life.

I wonder if she meant by painfully obvious that she is the one stuck *having* to come back.

She said something about that on the RV trip. That she doesn't have a choice, that she can't just walk away, implying that she's stuck with the kids, that they were keeping her from her dreams of stardom, whereas Jon was free to just romp about (which he did seem to think at first, but had stopped doing that for a year or so by then).

At the time it sounded like she was jealous as hell of what she perceived to be as Jon's freedom. That he was free to become a star, while she no longer was.

Working two jobs to pay your child support and missing out on the day-to-day life of your kids while trying to be a good weekend dad, and your ex bashing you non-stop on national tv doesn't sound much like freedom to me.

I don't know if Will Smith is such a good example here, admin. He certainly did turn out to be a well-grounded adult, but he didn't really begin his career until he was a senior in High School, I believe. Right at the time he was supposed to enroll in college (his mother really wanted him to go) he landed his first big recording contract.
Now he and his wife Jada seem to be pushing thier own kids into the limelight, and they're getting a lot of criticism for it. Here is an excerpt from an article last year:

They haven't even hit their teenage years yet, but pint-sized stars Willow and Jaden Smith already strike poses on the red carpet like a couple of seasoned showbiz professionals.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith's two kids have been close to the spotlight for years, but in the last few months they've both suddenly shot to stardom with 12-year-old Jaden starring in a remake of The Karate Kid and 10-year-old Willow releasing her first single Whip My Hair.

But some critics say it's all too much, too soon.

"Will and Jada expect only the best from their children, there is very little room for failure. They’re a very competitive, high-performing family," a friend tells the Daily Mail.

"It’s almost like the kids have never known what it’s really like to be a child. They were launched straight into the limelight. A lot of their friends think it is way too much too soon."

The whole family joined Jaden in China while he was filming The Karate Kid this year, and dad Will admits there were times when he and his wife argued over whether or not their son needed to take a break.
"It was a struggle for Jada to keep the pressure off," he said. "Jaden is so disciplined and hard-working, it is difficult not to push him for more."

"There is no telling what this kid could do, and that is one thing that stands out between him and other children I have worked with," Will added.

"Six-day working weeks, another take - he has the mentality, he is there. Jada had to remind me that this family had to come first and the project second. Which was really difficult."

It is nice to see success stories of child actors, and to see that they have lived fulfilled lives. Some have gone to college to get degrees and gone off to do completely different things besides acting because they maybe had enough of it growing up.
It's also good to hear about the parents that didn't trap them into their fame and helped them live normal lives outside of the Hollywood glitz. They went to birthday parties, went to public school, had friends, their egos never got too big.
It's such a contrast to see that someone like Will Smith, such a huge star, had such a seemingly normal upbringing, and then there's Kate Gosselin, bringing up her children in a bubble-except for her twitter ramblings- and yet Will Smith is such a success story.
Will the Gosselin children defy their mother because she lets them do nothing? No friends, no parties, no nothing? It's like an underground camp there. Will the Gosselin children become wild and crazy and let their freak flags fly when it's time because they weren't allowed the luxury of having any freedom at all?
Kate needs to let her kids breathe, and live. They are not celebrities, and I use that term loosely, anymore.

I remember her saying that, but I took it this way: She was blathering on and on about the kids, the responsibility, blah blah, people leave her, etc., ..She is so insanely stupid, she thinks people leave because she has eight kids...I was thinking, no Kate, they leave because of YOU. This lady just doesn't get it, never will get it. Jon got it, he just wanted to enjoy the kids, get dirty with the kids, laugh, enjoy..Kate just wanted to keep everyone sterile, quiet, all the while she organized her lists...I bet she has lists about her lists.
She will never get it. nope. nada.
...and I don't think Jon 'walked away'. I think she threw him away like trash. Same with Ashley, gee, you can only treat people like this for so long before they can't take it anymore.

    aggiemom,
I never watched the RV trip episode, but my girlfriend did and told me about it. This is what got me back into this whole mess again. Haha. You hit the nail on the head about a common denominator.
I am sure you have all said this quite a bit, but Kate Gosselin is the type of person who can't take no for an answer. I hate to bring this up, but I was reading an article on Whitney Houston in People magazine. Apparently, she had many "YES" people in her life. She also had some "No" people, but she would not go to them very much.
Houston would go to these "Yes" people when she wanted what she wanted, typically her drugs, and if the "Yes" people said no, they would be gone, so they always said "yes", of course. This is the same as Kate, but for purely different reasons and logic. Kate wanted the whole 9 yards: The fame, fortune, to be well-known. If anyone got in her way, say her family, or Jon, or whomever, then they would be gone.
If Kate keeps seeking this elusive spotlight, what, or who, will she risk next in her search? Just from reading the posts, it seems her children are over the whole fame thing. It is out of their reach now anyway.
TLC is going in a new direction. Kate Gosselin is no longer the "new, hot, piece". In her quest for fame and INfamy, will she risk losing her children as well?

I don't watch TLC, but I did tune in to this show after hearing about the marriage heading towards divorce court.
I don't know what TLC broadcasts, aren't they the ones that show Dance Moms? I don't watch it, but a few of my kids do, they like to watch the girls dance and try to tune out the adult drama. From what little I have heard while entering or leaving the room while it is on,it is nothing short of appalling. I don't have time for people like that in my life, nor do I care to watch it. (garbage in, garbage out, as the old saying goes).
I watched the rv episodes with GLEE, knowing that TLC had finally thrown HER under the bus. Probably feeling that way isn't right, but it was so good to FINALLY see this lady get a little of what is due her.

I was so saddened by the loss of Whitney Houston, she is about my age, so it is easy to compare lives. Such a talented, beautiful, articulate, gifted person, to have thrown it all away for something so stupid. Just goes to show you, money doesn't buy happiness. Wonder if Kate will ever learn that lesson?

Since I am confessing all, I enjoy watching some of the real housewives shows, specifically NJ and BH..what confounds me is the enormous wealth all these ladies have, yet all they are interested in is attaining STUFF and going on trips..and yet they appear unhappy and unsatisfied. I wonder if they will ever 'get it'?

I think once Kate morphed in to her new body and face was when the kids became even less significant to her. She eclipsed them long ago, and would have ditched all 8 of them if someone offered her a talk show gig. She shifted from wanting to be famous for having 8 kids to wanting to be known for her 'gift of gab'. She is a poser, plain and simple.

Those children are completely disposable when it comes to her seeking fame. She will pull them off the shelf when an offer requires her to do so, and in between they are nothing more than an obligation to her. How sad.

Regarding the comment that Kate feels that she is stuck with the kids: it wouldn't surprise me at all, now that the kids are no longer moneymakers for Kate. When the tups were born, they brought Kate local fame and lots of freebies, then came the reality show with nationwife fame, lots of money and biggee and better freebies. Now that nobody is interested in filming the kids anymore and there is no other way to make money off them - yes, I can well imagine that Kate feels stuck with them.

Wasn't it very telling when on the RV trip, the cameraman just lowered the camera when Ashley started crying? I think he saw the sh*t she'd taken and felt so bad for her that he gave up a great shot to give her privacy and respect.

February 29, 2012: Kate Gosselin is still a selfish asshole. But at least her asshole ways are off TV, most likely for good.

I say that because I've been watching little clips on youtube that captured certain moments (tons of them) from the show that shows Kate as she really is, not this sappy sweet "smile, it's a new day!" fake persona she puts out on Twitter (well, sometimes it slips).

And watching those clips reminded me of something I used to think years ago, when I first noticed the show and barely knew who they were: if THAT is how she's willing to act when the cameras are on, and this is being filmed for NATIONAL TV, just imagine for a second what she's willing to say and do to people around her when there aren't any cameras around.

Ug, it gives me chills still to this day to think about it. I'm SO happy for Jon that he's away from her. I bet not a day goes by that he doesn't thank his lucky stars she left him. It was a blessing in disguise. All he has to do if he forgets is just watch even a couple of minutes of her treatment of him, again--ON camera, to remember how bad it was.

Someone above mentioned her not taking no for an answer. That's true, she's said it herself! But sometimes no IS no. She also is a classic narcissist in the sense that nothing, and I do mean NOTHING, is EVER ever ever her fault or her doing in any way. Ever.

I read once, sorry can't remember where, that a celebrity once said something about believing the good things other people say about them means also having to believe the bad.

People who are centered, comfortable in their own skin and are innately secure with who they are don't believe ANY press about them, good or bad.

Fame is fleeting but more than that it is hollow, insincere and merely a popularity contest.

In the world of celebrity, one day you can be the IT thing, the next you're totally yesterday's news. I can't imagine banking your self-esteem and self-worth on what other people say about you.

I truly believe Kate had the potential and more opportunities than most get in three lifetimes, to turn her "celebrity" into a lucrative career that didn't involve the kids.

She could have been a spokesperson, a role model, a business woman and yes, with some training, even a talk show personality.

However, the one trait that I think Kate lacks the most is humility. Her insistence that she, and by default her kids, deserves life served on a "golden platter" and is above "mediocre" is what sank her.

It was the mediocre moms of this world that watched her show, awed at the enormous responsibility she shouldered and that even sympathized, in the early days, with her need for order and control.

Unfortunately, Kate never got that. She never opened herself up to the idea that she could be an "amazing" role model of mediocre.

She touted herself as superior, treated others with impatience and disdain - even her own husband - and carried herself with airs of loftiness and "I'm better than everyone else".

No Kate, you aren't better than any other Mom just because you got 8 kids from 2 pregnancies.

Moreover, evidence suggests you planned multiples specifically for the purpose of gaining attention and accolades for yourself.

Kate, you are severely lacking in character traits that could have endeared you to people, could have garnered sincere respect and afforded you the opportunity to have a career in the public eye.

YOU blew it! Not Jon, not TLC, not your 8 beautiful children. YOU! If you had just tried being grateful, kind and willing to learn how to improve yourself.

But no, you're already totally amazing, right?

This is like comparing apples and oranges. The Gosselin kids were NEVER CHILD STARS. They appeared on camera doing nothing but living their lives. They were NOT acting. Jon and Kate were not acting either, well, except for Kate 'acting' like a mother (and not too well, at that). The reason the kids will have a tough time adjusting is because of the poor job Kate has done of making them well adjusted...she has encouraged a feeling of entitlement in them. Her kids are no more entitled to life on a 'golden tray' than anyone elses. If she could/would get over herself it would help her family immensely.

And I had forgotten about the Mady drink of water thing until just recently. THAT was awful. Almost all of the kids were complaining that they were thirsty, that it had been a long day, they wanted water and what did this bitch do?

She LITERALLY said, "oh you know what? That's a good idea..." and then started asking for water FOR HERSELF. Her kids complaining they were thirsty REMINDED HER OF HER OWN THIRST and she only took care of her thirst, opening it to drink it right in front of the older child who was particularly thirsty (and who called her mean, good for her).

My jaw dropped open. And I already KNEW what a horrid person she was. And that just topped it. What kind of parent does that? My kids are thirsty makes me think of myself???

I so agree with you, Aggie. If Kate wasn't so interesting in saving her own face, I think she'd hand all the kids over to Jon this minute. Her precious commodities have turned into eight little monkeys on her back.

If she said in essence that she's "stuck" with them then she doesn't deserve to have them. And they deserve so much better than being in her custody. She never gave a thought for her kids when she set things up so rosy for #1. Her marriage and the children came second.

Dallas, I have to admire how Mady called her out on that...that WAS so friggin mean. The way Kate leaned over and pinched one of little girls' shoulder was mean too. She's just a mean person period. Her eyes turn dark when she's angry. It's creepy.

Actually, the Gosselin kids have had it way worse than child actors because at least child actors were playing roles and could revert to their private selves off camera. Not the Gosselins. The Gosselins reality was for all to see, warts and all. And when the producer started scripting them as the kids got older and the show ran out of ideas, it was lame. No talent, nothing special and finally TLC realized that the whole family had lost its uniqueness, innocence and viewers.

We are still talking about the family because Kate Gosselin cannot let go of what is past and is injecting her ambitions and sick motivations on kids that have no control over their life choices. Her continued pursuit of fame and multiple kid exploitation proves, to me, that she conjured up some convincing scenarios to get what she wanted.

Regarding this article being apples and oranges I couldn't disagree more. That's what we've been pushin for for so long for reality kids to be afforded the same protections as other child stars and to not be treated as "well they're just playing" as Kate wants.

I wish her fans would realize she did NOT invent layered taco dip or any of the other recipes she claims as her own or that her fans call "your taco dip," etc.

In the big scheme of how horrible she is, this is little stuff, but it's still so weird. She doesn't seem to realize that very few people are dumb enough to believe she came up with all those recipes.

Probably why there will never be a Kate Gosselin cookbook. Nothing's original, and when it is, it's just dumping a dozen cans of high sodium beans and chilis into a crock pot and turning it on.

    Dallas Lady said...

And hey, I think we ought to place our bets (not betting anything real, of course) as to:

whether the cruise will be canceled (or rather, that Kate won't be on it, not that the entire ship cancels their trip)

and if it is canceled, when will that be announced?

I'm not ENTIRELY sure she's given up yet or that Alice Travel has given up yet, but my theory is that they're going to give this thing until May to see how many people sign up. If my calculations are correct, they've had no more than 20-30 people TOPS sign up for the Kate part of the cruise. I think I'm being generous with that number, too. Surely that's pathetic. So I think they'll give it a while longer and then Kate will have to announce she can't go on the cruise. She'll probably blame the kids in some way, she blames them for everything else.

So what's everyone else's prediction? Kate cruising in August with a handful of loonies or sitting on her butt at home in August?

    AuntieAnn said...

Kate would say anything back then to keep that gravy train going. Her statement that they were 'just playing' was such a farce. How is fooling your kids into thinking it's Christmas morning just playing or dressing them up in winter clothes for a photoshoot in the heat of summer.

I'm sure these were the kind of things that were making Jon think twice about the dishonesty behind what they were doing and forcing the kids to take part.

    AuntieAnn said...

Dallas Lady - Just for laughs I'd like to see Kate cruising in August with a handful of loonies, forced to stay on board with each other and with no place to hide (without the twins of course). Poetic justice. haha.

    Sheeple Cruise Math Exercise
To figure out how many hours you need to work to earn a fabulous week with Kate Gosselin, here are the steps.
    Info:
There are 168 hours in 7 days
The average hourly cost/hour for time on the cruise:
    Single    $13.00/hr
    Double  $21/hr

    To calculate using your figures:
1)Cost of cabin divided by hourly wage=#of hours needed to work to pay for cruise
2)Add up actual airfare and fuel surcharge and estimated other expenses
    3) Divide #2 answer by hourly wage
    4) Add answers to #3 to answer #1 =total number of hours worked to go on this stupid cruise.

Here are some examples of the average prices, at differing $/hr earned
    Average Price Single 2187  / Double 3567
    # Hours on Board Single 168    / Double 168
    Hours of work @ $14/hr Single 156   / Double  254
    Hours of work @ $18./hr    Single 121 / Double     198
    Hours of work @ $22/hr          Single  99 /  Double  162

*Estimated  (conservative) additional expenses of $1000
     @ $14/hr Single  71 /Double 71
    @ $18/hr Single  56 /Double 56
    @$22/hr Single 45  /Double 45
*Airfare, Hotel, fuel , tips, on-board/offshore food and drinks, shore excursions

    Extra Credit:
    1) To figure out how many weeks you need to work to pay for cruise, divide the total hours by 40.

Note:  In the above examples, a range of  1.125-1.775 40-hour work weeks are needed to pay for the ADDITIONAL expenses alone!

    2) To calculate the extra cost if carried on a credit card, multiply by the annual percentage rate charged by card carrier and multiply the number of years. (Assuming that interest only is charged). If your credit card charges 20%, then, every 5 years you will pay for the cruise again.

    Bon Voyage!

30 people?? I hope not...I'd hate to think there are that many lunatics running around. I'm very interested whether her twins are going or not. This whole-kids-on-tv thing has really opened my eyes.
I had the tube on this morning and there it was...on a scripted tv drama, a lady holding a baby (less than 6 months old). I asked myself, "Now how did that baby's actual parents KNOW their infant wanted to act on tv?"

Parents that sign their BABIES up for tv, commercials, etc., are no better than reality tv parents, imo. Guess they want their child to support them, or pay it's own way through life.

I don't think I will ever see a baby on tv again and think about that.

As far as other reality personalities go, I heard recently that one of the teen moms (Amber, I think?)made $280,000 last yr. Crazy, huh?

But when announcement first came out about the cruise, it was touted as watching kids play on the beach with Kate. If people signed up based on this premise, and the kids were pulled (for whatever reason) there could be a problem there. The disclaimer on the Alice site says that Kate may cancel for reasons not in Alice's control. There is nothing there to say what happens if the KIDS are a no-show. Obviously the children aren't going to be there if Kate isn't there, but if a selling point of the cruise as initially announced was that seeing the children, then a ticket-holder might have an argument.

lol, admin! I was just thinking about this and was going to post that this sounds like a case of bait and switch. Alice didn't think ahead to include a disclaimer about the kids. It never should have used that as a selling point in the first place. I wish I knew when they pulled that "playing on the beach with Kate" featured highlight of their webpage. What I remember about it was that it didn't say how many kids, but it was plural, and as such, a potential cruiser would have seen that as a reason to book.

    aggiemom09121416 said...

Seems like there was a disclaimer at the bottom of the page, and how can you sue if it involves minor children? Technically, minor children can't sign legal documents, so why could anyone sue if the kids are a no-show?
Gee, I sure hope that's what she is ticked about, that the twins can't go on the cruise to WORK.

If Kate wants to be a 'personality', I wish her all the luck in the world. Just don't bring the kids into it.

    Dallas Lady said...

Kat (48): My estimation of 30 was on the high end. I'm thinking of the fact that the loony CJ gal is bringing her three kids and has them all signed up for the Kate part, not just the cruise itself. So that's four people right there.

And then there were, what?, several others?

There's probably not 30 people signed up, I was thinking best case scenario for Kate would be 30 at this point. Ha, that's sad. Weren't they shooting for 200, minimum? That's why I wonder if it'll be canceled later in May.

    ********

AuntieAnn: I'm torn. On the one hand, I know not going on the cruise would PISS Kate the hell off. You know she's REALLY looking forward to getting out of her hated Pennsylvania and away from the kids (or most of them, if the girls go). And even if the girls go (I'm thinking they aren't), she won't spend much time with them. I mean, come on, this is Kate Gosselin we're talking about. So you know she's dreaming of lying around being waited on and wearing bikinis.

On the other hand, being stuck floating around with a handful of absolute nutters who want her every second of attention and get pissed/sad because they aren't getting it wouldn't be any more fun than sitting around in Pennsylvania with eight kids.

    So for me, it's a win/win. ;)

    Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The kids on the beach came from a press release with no disclaimer. The kids not being able to contract has nothing to do with it. The kids aren't suing. A disgruntled passenger would. Even so Kate can contract on her children's behalf.

Huh, you know the more I think about it, the more I think the twins WERE a bait and switch. There was just one line in some article about the cruise talking about watching Kate play on the beach with her "kids" and Kate and Alice Travel said nothing about it.

Then LATER, when tickets sales weren't going well, suddenly it was announced that M&C were going, too.

But I bet they were never going. I kind of wondered how they could go on a cruise that close to the start of the school year, anyway. And the last thing Kate would want on the cruise is to deal with any kids, even older ones.

Now that they see even saying M&C are going didn't work to increase ticket sales, they're probably just not talking it up anymore. I feel sorry for those few people who might have signed up thinking the twins were going.

No, I don't. That's creepy, to sign up for a cruise thinking you'll hang out with a couple of 11 year old girls.

I am certainly not an atty, but it just stood to reason that anything they put on their website had an iron-clad disclaimer. I do remember reading one for Kate in case she fails to appear. I wouldn't think any of her fans would sue her, nor have the resources to do so after paying for their cruise. :)

There's no such thing as an iron clad disclaimer. You can't disclaim your way out of wrongdoing. For instance I can't go over to your house and have you sign a disclaimer that if I steal all you're jewels I'm not liable! Courts will only uphold disclaimers so far. It's often worth a try in court.

Add this to list of other small victories we've scored for the kids.

Our emails and letters to the PA Dept of Labor resulted in a hearing which determined the kids were working. For free apparently, as it also revealed that no specific accounts had been set up for the kids, even though since day one of the dumb show J&K insisted they were only doing this to secure educations for the kids.

How about when the mother of the year dragged those poor children to NYC to film exclusively outdoors in 106 degree weather? When the public was asked to stay indoors due to the heat advisory. Several phone calls were made to NY children and youth and while they didn't shut down filming, they said they investigated and safe parameters were given to the parent and the crew.

And finally, many of us wrote to PA Rep. Murt when he sponsored the bill enacting laws for child performers in PA. I don't understand how Kate sleeps at night, knowing her home state had to draft legislation to curtail her egregious exploitation of her children. Since she has no shame and no conscience, I'm sure she sleeps like a baby.

Lol! Yeah she quickly pulled that one out of her ass when the fans were exitedly trying to arrange an August meet & greet with her in St. Louis. She kinda went along with it but when it picked up steam she panicked. Kate does not pay for her own airfare or hotel, she does not do anything for free and she certainly doesn't do anything nice for anyone else but herself. She put an end to that discussion by blatently lying to them.

Flash forward a year later, when she's going on a cruise where people are paying an $800 premium to meet her, back to school now only takes a week! Whaddyaknow!!

If Kate does do a recipe book now, she had better be darn sure that each and every recipe is her own. There are enough people that don't like her that would fact check the whole thing. Remember the recent story of the Food Network Star that had her show canned because she plagiarized a bunch of recipes calling them her own, even tho she did change one or two ingredients. Kate better have all her ducks in a row if she goes this route again.
And writing up a recipe is not the only thing you have to do to make a cookbook, you need to have others test the recipe for you to make sure it comes out the same (or nearly the same) each time.
It's more work than she thinks it is, you can't just open a can and dump it in a pan.

Dallas Lady.......This is how I think the cruise will play out:

Let's say there are 30 people going and they are booked at the minimum rate based on 2 people sharing a cabin. That is $1900.00 per person, based on double occupancy.

If Alice Travel receives 15% commission on each booked passenger that is a commission of $285.00 per person x 30 passengers = $8550.00

My thinking is that in exchange for Kate and her appearances, Alice Travel is providing a Junior Suite at no charge to her. The rate is $3175.00 plus $1900.00 per additional occupant, total retail value $6975.00, (assuming Cara and Mady are still going).

So, Alice Travel has covered their expense (based on my theory that the free cabin IS Kate's payment), and from now until May they can still take new bookings to increase their profit margin. And, at 90 days prior to sailing, they give back the unsold cabins to Royal Caribbean.

Dallas Lady, Kate's cruise is a GO in my opinion as Alice Travel has sold enough cabins already (15 cabins, based on 30 passengers), to cover their expense, but more to the point, we all know Kate will NOT be denied. Kate would rather have 30 adoring/crazed fans admiring her on this cruise than sit at home with her 8
    kids.

Jumping In, I may be wrong about this, but the impression I have gotten from the people who have signed up and tweeted about it is that Alice Travel is making ex-Kate deals for those that want them. For example, one Kate fan is a party of 5, but only 2 of the 5 are paying the "Kate rate." Alice Travel has not advertised any "ex-Kate rate," but I am definitely getting the impression that they are having to sell their packages this way. So I think what you calculated above may in fact be quite a bit less, though I have no idea how many cabins they have to sell to make this profitable for them.

Again, based only on what I've seen on Twitter, I reckon there are currently only about 10 people signed up at the Kate rate, and these 10 are bringing family/friends who all together total maybe 25-30.

There does seem to be a lot less hard selling going on by either Kate or Cindy at this point, so maybe they are filling up? Or giving up?

Okay so even if Kate and the two kids go on this cruise, the 30 some fans will be subjected to her rude, loud and arrogant behavior on board to edit out the nastiness as one gets with TV show, reality or not.

She will pose for pics with the fans, probably post them up on her stupid blog, and a week later write a boring CC report on how to save money on a cruise.

But...then what? I hear crickets. I mean she works once a week for CC and not very well at that either. What will be her job aspirations come the fall? She says she has books in the works but there is a big difference between the talk and the work I think. Cookbook, a book on how she's survived divorce with 8 kids, etc.

Kate has no goals, just lofty dreams she keeps hoping somebody will hand her in life because she's a mom of multiples. Big whoop. Does she not know how many times there are couples who have tried to have children with infertility or other uses and they get nothing? Couples out there who have tried for years on these treatments and still have to live with being told the baby or babies didn't make it?

I know, I know, life is just so hard for poor Kate who is blessed with healthy (oh yeah, the kid with the glasses in her opinion) normal kids who don't from what I can see suffer premmie problems or terrible vision problems.

    What a wash up.

    Being obsessive is work.

No really! I mean it. I mean yo get up late in the day, so you immediately obsess over the fact that you've lost a few precious hours you could have spend obsessing over the fact that you weren't still in dream land.

Then yo have to obsess over your coffee, that should take anywhere from 5-10 minutes tops. Unless you want to drag it out and obsess over your coffee while on Twitter.

Obsess over what to make for breakfast for your army of 8 kids and throw yesterdays lunch the kids didn't eat back into the lunch pale. A good hour if you do it right.

Obsess over possible pap photographs of you at the bus stop which means you've just wasted another half hour obsessed over what the wear to drop the kids off in.

You obsess over your Twitter fans and your half-baked projects you claim to do all day long. (i.e. the store bought, Crisco frosted cupcakes) and making a mad dash to some craft store for frog decorations. All so you can celebrate Leap Year. That should take you all afternoon even if you throw in an organic salad and a few more cups of coffee.

Then obsess over how dirty, horrendous several of your children are after their day at school, be very obsessive that they want to talk about their day with you so you miss your Twittering party of crushingly dull Tweets from the same fans day in and day out.

Obsess over the fact that you have to make up paper work for yourself. Who the hell has paperwork to do when they are unemployed? Huh? Anybody?

After you obsess over feeding your kids a few beans and your holiday themed food yo obsess over what time it is so the kids can go to bed at 7:30 p.m.

After you obsess over what wine to have for the night, yo finally get to set yourself down to continue your obsessions on Twitter for the world to see until yo conk out or are too bored to obsess over the lame people out there who ask you mundane questions you crawl into bed, feeling refreshed to be able to obsess over all the things you could have done today but didn't do.

Phew. But don't worry you still have plenty of time to be just as obsessive tomorrow.

Then they would tweet to kate how horrible Jon is and how much they admire kate for tolerating Jon's antics. Because, you know..everything is Jon's fault. If I had a Keurig coffee maker machine, I would buy 3 of them: one for regular coffee, one for tea and the last for favor coffees. But money saving Kate failed mention this. The dim-wit, could have mention a money saving item,(and a possible use of a coupon: say Bed, Bath & beyond 20% off to purchase one, if they carry it) and also, then tell people to get a french coffee press and take the grounds from the reuseable k-cup and put in a small zip-lock bag and when you have enough, put in french press and get at least a few more cups of coffee. Some money saving tip Kate did not know! I should write that blog. And I don't even own a Keurig.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the recovery community, those "yes" people are called ENABLERS ! And that is what you have to be to stay on Kate's life.

Exactly. I've called Steve and Jamie enablers. I've said that anyone who doesn't enable Kate is cut off.

You don't just have to encourage and support someone's drug problem to be called an enabler. You can encourage and support someone being a vile person to be an enabler.

I have also said that Kate has a personality similar to an addict. For the dumb sheeple who love to twist her words, I do not think she is any kind of drug addict, but I do think she is addicted to fame and money. She has set up this addiction the same as what an addict would. She cuts off anyone who tries to stop her. She keeps a close and secretive circle of her most trusted enablers. She will do anything to get her fame and money fix, including being mean and nasty, selling her kids, selling her dignity, crawling around in the mud with fans she never gave two shits about before, whatever it takes to get her "crack."

    Kate is an addict, period.

    Dmasy said...

    Administrator, we enjoy you, too.

I think one of the reasons that we (here) get so frustrated by Kate is that we actually live what she pretends. We are bits and pieces of who she imagines she is. There are some astute shoppers who leave good tips here. There are talented writers who effortlessly type paragraphs of humor and insight.

Some of us actually do eat organic. Some of us eat McDonald's and don't sneak.

There are moms here who are devoted to their children. There are moms who make deep sacrifices every day.

We are women who know how to enjoy life -- really enjoy our responsibilities.

I have read thoughtful, considerate, sympathetic posts here. We have shared just enough details of our lives to form internet bonds.

Kate is transparent. She is fraudulent. She feigns qualities and concerns - maybe because she believes she is all that. Maybe because she wishes she could be.

    Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Dmsay, yes, I think you're right.

And that's why Kate hates so much of her "haters." So many of them actually have the life that Kate pretends to live and love. She can't stand the fact that someone has something she doesn't. She has to just pretend she has it and hate on anyone who actually does.

The whole thing is really sad actually. A tiny part of me still feels very, very sorry for her. I know others don't, but I can't help it.

My theory about that awful, awful incident is that Kate knew Aunt Jodi was gaining popularity and was making Kate look like the hateful shrew she is. It was real hard for Kate to play the hardest working, most put upon mother in the world when Jodi effortlessly watched the 8 plus her own 4- and actually played with them and did crafts!!

Her irrational explosion over the gum IMO was Kate's attempt to make Jodi look bad because she gave the kids (gasp) gum. I can't imagine how terrified the little guy felt when he thought he was going to have his snuggie buddy thrown out :( If Kate truly had an issue with the gum, then she should have privately taken it up with the adult who provided it to them. Melting down and threatening 3 year olds was sick, twisted and wrong. No wonder the first camera crew all jumped off the crazy train and ran to the Duggars.

You can put the Drummond children with other exploited reality TV kids.

I read Ree Drummond's book,"Black Heels to Tractor Wheels" which told how she graduated from college in California and moved home to Oklahoma for a few months before moving to Chicago to start her career. She met Ladd Drummond (Marlboro Man) in a bar one night and extended her stay until he proposed. He is a handsome silver haired cowboy.
His family are the largest landowners in Oklahoma.

She gew up on a golf course with her sister and two brothers and her mom and Doctor dad.

She does have four cute kids and the youngest has a lot of face time on TV. They live in a beautiful big home and also have a "lodge" that they use to entertain and for her cooking shows.

Her husband is a millionaire and she earns a million dollars a year from her blog. She also homeschools her children. They have respect for each other and the kids but they are still featured on her cooking show. She is a Paula Deen type cook as she uses excessive amounts of butter and sugar in her recipes. She has two cookbooks out that are very popular.

She blogs every other day and usually has over 200 comments after each blog.

She is very likeable as is her husband but they are still exploiting their children.

What you see is not always what you get! There is a lot on the Internet about the Drummond family.

I've only seen about two minutes of this pioneer woman, but specific examples of her kids being exploited please? Other than just the kid has lot of facetime.

I'm not an absolutist. I don't think that just because your kid is on T.V. he or she is exploited. Look at this very post for three famous children who had pretty decent childhoods. I do believe that adequate protections can be put in place and I do think there are good stage parents out there. In an ideal world, no child would ever be on T.V. until they turn 18. But that's just not going to happen. So accepting that, the question is what we can do to best protect those who end up on T.V.

#133, That is exactly what I was thinking! I had never heard of this lady until she was mentioned on this blog, so I read a little bit of her blog yesterday. I agree with you, she does use her kids on her blog, so I guess technically there is some exploitation going on there. I didn't watch any videos, so can't comment on that.
It's also a similar situation with the Duggar family. Because she isn't as caustic and polarizing like Kate, she somehow gets a pass on exploiting her own kids (what is it, 19 now?) Supposedly her current shows are now exploiting the pregnancy she miscarried..I have to question these parent's motives.

If there was no twitter to show the "Leap Year Episode" then there would be no frog cupcakes. kate is "exhausting" herself to be Martha Stewart to continue her reality show on twitter. Problem is - it's too little too late.

Shame (not really hehe) - If kate has used this phony twitter persona on her show she may not have been cancelled. Instead of showing her kids as a "handful" that kate must endure, she could have shown them on their best behavior being happy from mommy's love and attention. She could have been the loving mother of 8 who lived to make her kids smile. She would have been the homemaker who adored making cute snacks for kids. The woman who loved sharing recipes. The woman who adored her dog. The woman who ran marathons while juggling her hectic life. The woman who always talked well of her ex. The woman who was working on more books. THAT woman could have rode her gravy train for many more years. The show would have been about making a pleasant home. THAT woman would have been given a makeup line, perfume, cookboook (with ghost writer), the followup book to Multiple Blessings, had her name on furniture, food and craft items. THAT woman could have quit the show on her own terms once the product offers came in and made that HER JOB.

Look at Kathy Ireland. Her net worth is 350mil from putting her name on brands. People like her personality and BUY her products. She outsells even Martha Stewart. Had kate played her cards right and appreciated the brand TLC crafted for her we would be cooking dinner with our kate crockpots. Serving it on our kate ceramic dishes. Cleaning the table with kates special cleaning products. Bathed our kids and then put them in their Gosselin brand pajamas. You get the point. Heck kate WAS even offered a clothing line but she shit over that before it even hit stores with her divorce announcement and behavior that followed.

TLC gave kate an opportunity of a lifetime. Their branding was smart and had kate went with it we would all be in shock over her success. Instead..
kate took a giant crap all over her well crafted brand because she let her ego get to big to remember to play along with her brand. Instead she became a bellowing, unpleasant witch who oozed entitlement - and that is brand that does not make money in the long run. It may buy you short term Omarosa "fame", but after the flash in the pan you are left with nothing. kate should have been humble and treated people with respect. She would have been offered, and would have sold, a lot of products to people who bought in to her "organized, organic, supermom of 8" shtick.

Stupid woman!!!! And this is someone the sheep drool over? A woman who's ego destroyed a potential lifetime of money making deals that could have netted her mega millions? Look at jessica Simpson's 1 BILLION dollar shoe line. People buy it because they like Jessica and it's a good affordable product. Jess has made more money (100 mil) from this than she ever did by singing. Gosh, kate literally bitched and moaned her way out of millions with her poor me, gimme more behavior. Who the hell can respect or admire that??????? Why is the sheeple bar set so low? A few cupcakes make her mom of the year? What about the 5 years of outlandish behavior that we saw on film? How does one watch that travesty called kate plus 8 and see ANYTHING other than a selfish person who puts her needs before anyone elses? How does that equal fabulous mom? Inspirational? She even handled her divorce horribly. And furthermore, if we are to believe kate, she even mismanaged all her money to the point her kids have to have bargain everything because there is only enough money left for kate's needs. KATE needs trips and goes but woe is me the poor kids cant travel because airfare times 9 is oh so much. WAAAAAAH!

I had never seen this before and I am, in a word, shocked. She is so horribly inarticulate--WHO was it who told her she had the "gift of gab"? Nothing could be further from the truth. She has no ability to speak extemporaneously at all. How could she ever have thought she could host a talk show??? Do you think she has ever actually watched herself doing one of these performances? She is beyond delusional.

Holy Crap. That was absolutely ridiculous. I honestly do not even know what kate was talking about becasue she LITERALLY said um after every word or 2. WOW. And she wants a talk show? Has the gift of gab? Writes book (whatever on that), and is PAID to speak???????

kate has been given far more opportunities in the public eye than she deserves. She should have worked on educating herself on the world around her, working with a professional to learn the art of public speaking, and learned how to actually DO all of the things she professes too. She wouldn't need filler words like UMM if she actually knew and lived what she was talking about. I can spot a phony a mile away from the way the speak and her UMmS spoke volumes to me.

Well I spent a little time figuring out who this Pioneering Woman is and whether she exploits her kids and I have to say some of the hate sites are kind of funny. I guess she has done a LOT of swiffering since she's become more and more famous and they love to call her out on that. Also I guess anyone who puts out a "perfect" lifestyle is going to get some criticism.

I wonder if Kate reads her because Kate sounds like she's trying to be her at times.

I am no longer a fan of Pioneer Woman - but I have to respect her INITIAL savvy in using her own natural talents and her writing which is what drew me in in the first place. Her blog started off as a way of her sharing her clear love of her family with others, just as is the case with many blogging family and friends of us all, so I can't fault her for that. BUT I think she is now at the top of the slippery slope heading downward into exploitation (i.e. she is definitely beginning to use the kids for professional purposes, not just sharing her joy of them as she used to, and she definitely does NOT need the money).

Kate only drew my attention because she was mean. That's it. It's too late for her to take it back and try the "happy twitterer" or some manufactured talent. Much too late.

    Twittering and Twattering said...

Thanks for posting a link to that video. I had not seen it. I think that's probably one of the worst interviews, in terms of ums, she ever did.

Is there any hope that she will learn the difference between lay and lie? Maybe she doesn't like to use the word "lie" because, well, she associates that with the negativity of the non-fans who call her out for her lies!

Anonymous, swiffering is when you remove blog posts etc., usually in response to a lot of criticism. And usually bloggers pretend it never happened. Interesting thing that happens in blogging worlds. For instance from what I gather Pioneering Woman has a special needs brother and she had a whole post about how she calls him retarded and owns that term, and I guess she got so much criticism of that she "swiffered" the post and never spoke of it again.

Oh, swiffering also means to clean your kitchen floor.

You think people would prefer to just live their life and not feel the need to broadcast every time the do something mundane.
I guess once you have put yourself in the public eye you crave it forever after or something. Otherwise, why the need to continue to feed the public? I guess I just don't get it. You tweet you had a cup of coffee. WHOOPIE!. Does anyone really care? It's so bizarre. And I have never seen anything like the crazy-ness that is on Jon and kate's twitter with the constant bashing from fans and non fans alike. Why would any parent want to open that door. How does a kcup work? Do you poke a hole in it? I looks like a large creamer cup to me from photos. I'm serious. I don't drink coffee and I have been reading post about them for days. Why are they wasteful? The plastic? And if they are convenient..why would you go thru a ton of trouble running it thru a french press? I have so much to learn because I don't even know what a french press does - I imagine it presses coffee, but..why does kate use a french press if she uses a k-cup? How does that work? I hate not knowing things so if someone feels like explaining please do. My bf only drinks one cup of coffee a day ever so I'm interested.

    Mel said...

Man, I'd totally forgotten how hysterical admin's reviews were....

Kate doesn’t understand why “the law” (she says this like she‘s fifteen years old and talking about her parents‘ curfew) would let Jon have any say in these kids. Yes, it’s so very, very unfair for a father to be making decisions as to the children he not just fathered but raised and they adore. Apparently Kate has never heard of something called parental rights. Jon has them, and you have to be pretty darn abusive and detrimental for a very long period of time for the silly law to strip them away. But it’s Kate, the pesky law never applies to her. This is also another great example of Kate not thinking beyond the end of her powdered nose. Would she want the law to have such power that it can take away her parental rights just like that for a few mistakes two years ago? What a scary place that would be to live in. Over her tanned dead body. She wants the law to be a dictatorship against Jon, just not her. Jon is not on the same team as her, says Kate. Nope, he’s not. Team Exploitation is not a team the vast majority of people want to be on, not after six years of this.

EM - We have a 10 cup coffee maker in our house. We also have the Keurig unit. Kcup would be ideal for your boyfriend. It is a way to make just one cup at a time. You can have a multitude of flavors for your choosing pleasure. Wasteful? Yes, just because of the individual packaging. Or you can look at it another way and say that it brews the correct amount of coffee without have left-overs in the big pot that get poured down the drain. Convenient? Totally. The water heats quickly and flows through what you called the over-sized creamer cup.

The fun is in the designer flavors!

    Laurie said...

EM- the K-Cuos are plastic with paper(ish) tops. You put them in the machine (which pokes a hole in the top and bottom), chose the size cup of coffee you want and press brew. Water filters through cup (some special steam process or something) and brews your coffee. Perfect, fresh cup of coffee every time. Is the plastic wasteful? Yes, but we do empty out the grounds for the garden. I really do love my Keurig and hate it when people try to make me feel guilty about it. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone.

Thanks for posting that. While watching it, I was reminded of another youtube clip posted by jibberjabberz of Kate's infamous "Kate: Her Story" interview with Natalie Morales. This is a deleted scene (don't know how she got that) that shows Kate laying out pictures of the G8, then fiddling with her ear--accompanied by a lot of umms and pauses. At 1:05, there is a shot of the back of her head, where it appears that she is unsuccessfully trying to adjust a hidden earpiece that is covered by the long side of her stupid asymmetrical haircut. She is suddenly at a loss for words and then tries to make it look like she is struck dumb with emotion. There is an earlier shot of the back of her head, at :38, where there is definitely something white, wrapped around her ear. It is a little blurry--could possibly be a very light piece of hair tucked behind her ear. But, given the expression on her face and the fiddling with her ear, it is a pretty sure bet that she is wearing an earpiece.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3vudV4MuJU&feature=youtube_gdata_player

In both clips, there are multiple points when her eyes appear kind of unfocused, looking up and slightly to her right side--It is my opinion that she had an earpiece for many of her interviews and uses the pauses and umms to give her some cover while she get her cues. Don't get me wrong, she is a crap public speaker. But, I think that around that time, TLC was micromanaging every word out of her mouth, first, to build her brand, and later, in an attempt to salvage her "brand". At the very least, it would explain that ugly swoop of hair.

jibberjabberz has a lot of Gosselin related clips. You can see her other clips by going to either of the above links, and activating the "more from" tab to the right of the clip.

Its what they have been shown.

As for the kids being STARS and being in the spotlight for ever....I disagree. They are not stars....they are not children of celebs...they were part of a reality show.As long as kate has no show to expose the kids...they will become a memory.Only a few will want to know everything they are doing...Many have forgotten them already.
The longer they are out of the headlines the better.I'm not being mean but hoping for the best. Those kids deserve a private life. I dont think its gonna be a struggle in the next year or 2....How often do you see anything about the Dillys?
I watched the show from the start to see how the heck this family got by..It became too clear on how they got "BY". How greed played a part...How rotten kate was/is. I wasent drawn in by the kids...I wish them well...but Im not gonna go looking for them! I think the kids will be forgotten as time goes by...and thats a good thing. EM: Why I mentioned the French press: if you are a really money saving person to the extreme: you would save the ground from the k-cups, in a zip-lock, store in frig, when you have enough, put into french press and you can get maybe 4-5 more cups of coffee from the grounds, that you would toss in the trash. Or put them back into the re-useable k-cup and have another cup of coffee. See, this is money saving tips, if Kate did her homework, she would have known this, put this on the blog and even could have mention several coupons to use to get it. I looked up the re-useable k-cups on line and they do sell them at Walmart, Target, Bed, Bath, and other places. I have not seen them at the place only on line. The only place I actually saw them was at World Market(one of my favorite places to go even if I don't buy anything). SHAME ON KATE FOR NOT KNOWING THIS!

    anger issues kate said...

Look, I'm not picking on anyone or attacking, who wants to use the k-cups, feel free. I was just sharing and pointing out that Kate who thinks she is such an great money saving person, who is writing a blog, and drinks coffee like a vampire needs blood, then she should have known about these re-useable k-cups and mentioned them as a money saving thing. She did not!
These re-useable k-cups: look just like the k-cup, they are plastic with a cap that has a hole on top, and a screen metal filter on the bottom, what I like about it you can use your own coffee, and not have a million empty k-cups. But, when we had them at work, using the regular k-cups, I would, less mess and time. It just makes me mad that she writes a so call money saving blog and does not even mention these and the coupons to some of the places you can buy them, did not do homework. So someone at CC must be a fan of hers. Her money saving tips are useless.
And this will be the last I will say on this subject, just some info.

    Berks Neighbor said...

In regards to international releases of Kate+8, TLC is just milking the cow for all it's worth. Sadly, Kate doesn't seem to be making any extra money off of it.
The other thing I find interesting is the amount of people who are purchasing her book now.
One conclusion is that they want to show how 'loyal' they are to Kate even though they can't afford the cruise. So they go for the cheaper option.
The second conclusion is that they feel if they purchase her books that she will make some money off of it. This isn't how it works though. Kate has already been paid for her books through a book advance, and unless she has sold out the amount of books required laid out in the contract she signed with the advanced payment, then she is not making any more money. The fact that her novels are now in the bargain bins means that they didn't sell as well as the publisher had intended them to.

Whoever wrote the post about how Kate really screwed up her branding was SPOT ON! She messed up horribly and could have ridden the 'high horse' longer if she had just been nicer to people. But her true narcissistic persona could not be hidden. She truly thought everything could be controlled by her and no one would care that she was this colossal b*tch to everyone in real life. She ticked off the wrong people at TLC and they were done with her.
    Karma baby.

I SO agree with you. Funny how there is normally very little interest in her "books", and then suddenly there were a number of tweets, supposedly from people reading 2 or 3 of them all at once, couldn't put them down, read them all in a day, etc, etc. Kate is using some of her purchased twitter accounts to tweet that to herself. Does she thing that publishers are that stupid? It takes all of 2 minutes on the internet to figure out that:
First book--was not written by Kate. Beth wrote it.
Second book--just a bunch of pictures of the kids.
Third book--just plain awful. Nobody bought it.
Her web site and CC blog--read as if they were written by a 7-year-old.

If anyone is idiotic enough to sign her up for more books, then they deserve what they get (crap).
I'm thinking the book about her stuggles after the divorce is just going to be more Jon-bashing, only in book form this time. I hope any potential publishers check to see what their legal liability will be for publishing such slander.
