And it's that hysterical, and rather cotton-brained secretary Mrs. Wiggins from The Carol Burnett Show. (Just because we feel like being completely silly this long weekend. Happy MLK Day.)

Admin, I think that Paula Deen's new role as the spokesperson for the pharma company may be a way she's coping with her diagnosis. She's used to entertaining people, teaching people. This is a way she can be in control of her diabetes, by putting it into the context of what she does for a living. She has said she wants to show people that diabetes doesn't have to run your life. Perhaps she's also proving that to herself by doing this.

Also Kate doesn't realize that claiming she had nothing to do with the price just makes her look like she has no control over her career. Everyone in the business negotiates their salaries either directly or through a rep. Who isn't involved in offers and negotiations as to their salary in ANY business? Nobody. You don't get a job at McyD's and then not ask oh by the way what are my wages?

I present Exhibit G (for grift) as evidence to Kate's obsessive detail when it comes to money. A portion of that oldie but goodie "By God's Grace We're Grifting For Him!!!!!!!" memo from April 2008. For those who may not have seen this before, this is from when J&K were working the church circuit on their own. By mid summer 2008, their new agent Julie May Carson cancelled all the dates they had already booked citing "scheduling conflicts" and then rebooked them to other churches at the new $25,000 speaking fee.
WE ARE NOW BOOKING INTO MID 2009. DATES ARE GOING FAST AND ARE VERY LIMITED!!!!!!
Logistics info: First, Jon and I always travel together for safety reasons.
Second, we don't bring our children anymore due to safety/security issues.
And third, we speak to an audience of 100 or more!
We typically ask that the church/organization cover our travel and accommodations (airfare, hotel, car transport to/from the airport on this end and rental car on that end). As far as a 'speaking fee' goes, we ask for a 'love offering' for church services (which averages around $3000-3500 just to give you an idea, but is by no means a set 'fee'-- we let that up to God to fulfill our needs whether that amount be higher or lower!).
Other groups (evening church sponsored events, non church affiliated programs etc) are charged a fee of $3500 for events scheduled in 2009.
For a Mops (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, we charge by the person.... a $ 15 fee per person with a minimum of 100 people. Additionally, we ask that we also be scheduled to speak at a church service while we are there.
As mentioned above, if you are scheduling a Saturday night event the fee is $3500. If you also want to schedule Sunday morning church services, we ask for a love offering in whatever amount is collected to cover Sunday. We want to let God provide for us want to be able to continue to travel and speak!
These fees are incorporated to cover our time, babysitting and time away from work!
In the past, churches, MOPS groups, organizations have charged admission or provided free tickets and covered our 'fee' in other ways.
It is up to you how it should be handled in your situation.
While one side of her ass said "we let it up to God to provide for us!!!!!!!!!!:):)" the other side of her ass said was saying "for MOPS we charge $15 a head/ 150 minimum and you pay for our airfare/hotel and rental car AND make sure there are LOVE OFFERINGS!!!!!!!! LOTS&LOTS OF THEM!!!!!!!!"
When it comes to Diabetes type 2, the plain truth is over 90% of the cases are preventable. What does that say about us as a nation? Pretty much that we don't care about ourselves. Everyone, and I mean EVERYone in my family gets adult onset diabetes in late age, my grandmother finally got it last year, she's in her late 70's and she takes care of her sick brother, sick from diabetes, in his late 80's. I take this subject to heart. But there is NO excuse, we have known about healthy eating habits and bad eating eating habits and exercise and their relation to bringing on diseases, like diabetes, for at least 20 years now. I gave up bread in my teens because I found out white, bleached, refined flour is a cause, and that was in 1989.
Maybe PD doesnt eat that food 365 days a year, but there are people who do, I am a witness now that I am stuck here in the south. I think shows like hers are a disservice to the nation, to the people's health and how they view food. We dont glamorize alcohol anymore, we shouldn't glamorize unhealthy eating, either. Maybe they should show what a portion actually looks like to help educate people who watch- cuz for darn sure they will be shocked. Oh well, PD made her bed and now she gets to lie in it- I have zero sympathy for her, she did this to herself. I do truly hope she wasnt holding out on informing the public for the sake of her 'brand', this type of behavior of personalities and their 'brands' is getting out of control, and Teen Moms is beyond unacceptable- people really watch that stuff?
Well, Kate has certainly found a new way to grift with Twitter. Today it was all about coffee---Keurig, Starbucks, Wolfgang Puck.
What is next? Clothes for the kids--attention Gap Kids! Her favorite restaurants--tweet them in hopes of scoring some gift cards?
Maybe some other appliances? New tires for her 3 vehicles?
It will be endless.
Well, perhaps PD can do some good, by helping people who have become type 2, figure it out. Since type 2 diabetes is increasing all the time. I was in denial, for a year. And yes I can still eat most of what I ate before, but smaller portions, no seconds, more veggies, watch the carbs(for me I also have to watch sodium level in foods). No more that 16 carbs, 41 carbs of a food item is too much. How many serving is in the box or bag. It's more work to eat now than before. I have to think more about what I put in me. I also take metaforum pill. Exercise is one thing I've not got a handle on yet! Depending on what how bad her type 2 is depends if she takes pills or the needle. I went to a diabetic group and most were really into sweets, I was the opposite, I craved chips, starchy stuff. It's sometimes very hard to control the I want it, food is calling me. Finding the right combo of food, shuts off the hunger. For PD, it will be tougher(having lived a food rich lifestyle and being a celeb,and now have to change), she has like I and many others, who were recently told you are type 2, living and eating anything and everything, as much as we wanted, and now we are paying the price. Old habits are hard to break and give up , eat less, take pills, check carbs, exercise, eat more veggies, life got complicated.

Dallas Lady, well said! And I will say it again--she does NOT have millions in the bank. She would have paid the house off instead of refinancing it if she did. She wasted thousands on fees, pays thousands in interest--only a moron would do that if they didn't have to, because that's money she can't get back. She IS a moron, but someone has to be advising her in money matters, and that person is (hopefully) not as idiotic as she is.
She has a few hundred thousand in the bank, no more than that. That refi wouldn't make sense otherwise.

I also can not see a very Catholic nation embracing Kate's method of conception, her divorce and her absentee mothering.
With all this diabetic talk, I have to put my 2 cents in. I am 50 and have had type 1 for 35 years and have had excellent control. Two months ago I got an insulin pump. Changed my life. Lost 20 pounds already and can eat ANYTHING I want. Went from a size 12 to a size 8. Yes, you have to look at carbs and calories but big deal. Most people should be doing that anyway since obesity is so rampant. Something is 40 carbs? Just tell your pump and it will give you the insulin you need. It's the closest thing to a real pancreas. My insurance company paid for my pump (they aren't cheap, approx. $7000) but so worth it!! Insulin pump therapy is the only way to go!! In honour of Kate, yay!!!!!!!!!!!
Layla, if she only has a few hundred thousand in the bank, she will run out in one year. If that's the case, it would sure explain the hard sell of her cruise, wouldn't it?
If she's thinking she has 200 fans who will sign up for this cruise, then she's figuring on making about $180,000, which would get her another 6 months of her current lifestyle. She probably figures in that pea brain of hers that she can just do this twice a year indefinitely.
The problem, of course, is that she'll get MAYBE ten suckers, tops. That's far less than she needs and she sure isn't going to be able to do that twice.
Sucks to be Kate, but it's all her own doing.

It could be that she wants to keep a mortgage for the deductions, plus, Kate doesn't part with money very well, and to have that "security" of the cash in the bank where she can see it makes her feel more comfortable (and rich) than writing a large check to pay off the mortgage and watching that money disappear into the bowels of the bank.
Kate's got nothing. Nothing planned beyond CC at the moment. Because if she had, when TLC cut the cord she would not have been suddenly unemployed. Don't most people have secondary things lined up? She didn't which shows her lack of ability to think beyond her current situation. As an adult that's a frightening matter not to think into ones future. You know, future expenses, future emergency funds and such.
Kate has no plan. She'll just wait for something to fall into her lap. She did the same thing with CC after TLC. She only took their bait because that was the only carrot dangled in front of her.
For a person who doesn't think ahead maybe this is why she is always so stressed out. Plan ahead then you won't be so stressed out.
She's waiting for people to take care of her I think. Hence her Twitter *wants* and all that.
Her life is so very sad I should think. Look, Jon got a job all on his own. Why would it be so hard for Kate to get hired? (Aside from her attitude that is?) I really don't think it would be. TV or no TV career without knowing what to do next her goose is cooked.
I like my 7/11 coffee! Be me mediocre when I don't have time to make it at home. Oh well. Not a fan of Starbucks after they screwed up my order twice.
My 80 year old mother has had Type 2 for almost 20 years and she will surely die from the complications of this illness.
At no time did she EVER eat the foods that PaulaD cooked. Her family, because of our Native American heritage, has a legacy of diabetes. Most of her family with diabetes died much younger. Thankfully, so far, none of her children/grandchildren are afflicated! Maybe the new gene pool is blocking this disease
So before anyone blames diet or anything else for diabetes, remember there are genetic reasons behind this disease. It is not always preventable!

I think those are real possibilities. I also think she was looking at the lowest payment possible no matter what you are paying total so she can free up more cash to feed her habits now. She'll worry later about it.
Kate is the type where if you tell her you could pay $10 a month now for 12 months, or you can pay $80 bucks now for the whole thing, she would take the $10 just because it sounds smaller NOW. Idiot.
It's true diet doesn't ALWAYS cause Type 2 although for many it does. As for Type 1, in fact, with Type 1 it almost NEVER has anything to do with your diet--type 1 is which is what my relative has. I think it's a fair bet Paula Deen's diet/weight had something to do with it.
Type 1 can happen at any time though usually, and has everything to do with a malfunctioning pancreas. They don't even know for sure what causes it, but some suggest genetics, or a virus that triggers it. Actually, everyone I know with Type 1 is skinny and always have been. I think my relative gets kind of offended when people hear diabetes they think oh because you're fat.
It must be killing Kate to finally have to support herself. TLC paid her salary, but also for a huge chunk of her normal living expenses. No more. Boo hoo. I think I'll go grift for bubble gum in twitter now

One thing that really bothers me with all of her grifting is the effect it will have on her children (By the way, has anyone else noticed that she never, ever has referred to them as her children--only as her "kids". That just seems odd to me, somehow). I remember in 3rd grade, in my private school (at about the age when our mothers' admonitions about the "wrong kind of people" started to sink in),one of the girls in my class was planning her birthday party. We were all talking about it, and another girl--who was not invited, and whose family was considered "crass", much like Kate--walked up and asked why she hadn't been invited. The birthday girl looked at her dismissively and said, "Because you're not polite people". My school was a lot like the one Kate's children--sorry, kids--go to, and the day will come when their mother's behavior will reflect on them, and not in a positive way. Even now, looking back on it so many years later, I feel mortified for that girl. She will probably remember that moment for the rest of her life. Kate is setting her kids up for the same kind of experience. oo bad her concern for herself outweighs her concern for her kids.
Layla, I completely agree. The kind of social skills she is teaching them are questionable at best.
The kids won't have a lot of friends if all they do is invite themselves to parties, ask for their friend's cookies, hog their friend's toys, brag about vacations and other toys, talk about themselves all day, etc.

I refer to my kids as kids too. Just seems more endearing to me and less formal. They'd laugh their butts off at me if I called them my children. I guess it's a matter of choice.
