Knocked up for reality T.V.

The Duggars announced this morning mom Michelle, 45, is pregnant with baby number twenty. But after their last child Josie was born premature with severe health problems (and the perfect opportunity to craft several episodes around the drama), is this new life and the high risk pregnancy that comes with it something they sincerely want, or is it really to keep interest alive in their show?

20 kids and counting! Michelle Duggar announces she's pregnant again

Thanks all for reading. I wanted to answer the questions some of you had about the Red Cross involvement.

The young man I talked to was very sincere and forthcoming and open to talk and answer questions.

I don't for a minute believe that the Red Cross approved that picture nor do I believe the rep I spoke with wasn't being up front.

Sue not sure if you saw, I'd like to do a post with the information you have that the Red Cross didn't approve this screw up (duh). Linking to your post, crediting it to you. Hope that's okay???

Ah yes yet another way to justify her horrible behavior. I'm just taking risks and choosing not to sit on the sidelines!

That picture of Kate wrapped in a Red Cross blanket looking nude and trying to look seductive is truly offensive. It's not enough that she's her own PR disaster, now she has to drag a charitable organization into her nasty little world.

Who does that? Who associates themselves publicly with a self-promotional photo without even contacting the organization to coordinate efforts?

What a disgusting piece of work she is. I'll bet the Red Cross is just thrilled to be spending time dealing with the fallout from this stunt.

This isn't a Carl's Jr. commercial where the company wants you to look sexy while using their product.

Is she completely oblivious to the natural disasters that have happened in our own nation? It doesn't matter how your home was destroyed (tornado, earthquake, wildfire, or even a random house-fire), these families no longer have a place to live (and sometimes lose everything) and must deal with rebuilding their lives.

Molly12, thanks for sharing your insight.

I can see Kate laughing this off instead of doing the right thing and taking down her Red Cross photo...because she won't see how it is inappropriate or offensive to some. She doesn't grasp what real victims of house-fires go through, as Molly12 pointed out.

Kate uses these charitable organizations to make herself look good in the public eye, rather than actually wanting to help their cause.

This person continually confounds, doesn't she? Not only with the Red Cross thing, which is bad enough. I looked at her twitter feed and she responded to some tweet sent out to all subscribers of Runner's World. They asked for recaps of runners' experiences in the NYC marathon - and Kate responded saying she didn't do that one, and then talked about herself.
@runnersworld no!I'm running the las Vegas rock n roll marathon on Dec 4!Omg!I can't believe I'm doing it! Scared2death!0 prof training!EEK!
3 hours ago - Twitterrific

runnersworld Bloggers: Did you run the #NYCMarathon Sunday and write about it? We want to link to you! Reply with your recaps.

Earlier, she retweeted something else from the same magazine, where someone posted an absolutely phenomenal finish time and ALSO made it all about her: RT @runnersworld .@runmeb ran 2011 #NYCMarathon 2 sec faster than his 2009 winning X...&came in 6th. I just want to FINISH my 1st! :)

It is unbelievable - Runner's World is talking about the New York City Marathon last week because that's their JOB, and Kate is talking about herself, even though she was not even there. Does she really think all the runners who competed in NYC and all the staff at Runner's World give a crap about her at this point? Her event is weeks away!

Kate and the blanket. After the "great Blizzard
of 2011" that struck Kate and Halloween, maybe a fan sent her a Red Cross disaster blanket to keep her warm.

If so, I hope the kids all got one, too. I doubt Kate shares much.

Thanks, Sue. Going completely off topic. Sometimes I stumble upon some old Rick Steve's episodes, he does travel guides for Europe. I'm sort of a sucker for that nerdy guy. Occasionally he takes his kids along. Now you might think how nice we're just following a family along on their vacation, they're all just living their lives while Steve gives travel tips, this must be all fun for the kids, right?

At the end of episodes he does "outtakes." Sure enough, the outtake on this episode? His daughter Jackie stumbling over her "line" about a piece of cake she is eating and the ingredients. She says the ingredients several times, messes it up, giggles, and does it again while Dad laughs.

Sure it probably was fun and games for Jackie. But she doesn't have to do this work all the time. It was a once in awhile thing. I can't imagine how annoying that must get for reality t.v. kids who have had to make 100's of episodes. And we KNOW they do retakes, because in the Yellowstone episode Mady demanded she do that take again.

Sorry, forgot to say that in the retweet about the guy's time, he ran 26.2 miles in 2:09 and some seconds. That is less than 5 minute mile - for 26 miles. That is hauling ASS. That's close to what her half will go down as with her 10 minute miles (which is still respectable) and she STILL makes it about her! I mean, it is so damn laughable!

Sue, you said that the person you spoke to thought they couldn't make KAte take the pic down.

I'm actually not sure Kate DOES have that right. She could be seen as misrepresenting her connection with the Red Cross, it could be construed as she is trying to pass herself off as a celebrity spokesperson when she is not. The Red Cross might be able to get her to take it down based on false representation.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

The point is that she didn't have to do this at all. The only purpose it serves is to call attention to her narcissism and that she can't do anything for charity without making it all about her.

@@@@@@@@@@@@

Absolutely. When I saw that, my first reaction is that she got a new "job" as spokesperson for the organization, and I did some reading to make sure that this wasn't the case!

I guess Kate missed the red cross chapter in NYC.

Odd but true: the final set had Allie playing in her yard and every single photo had her entire head and body blurry or there was a white sillouette beside her.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of little Allie, and I hope this comment doesn't offend you. From Buddhism, this is what they called "signs of the soul" leaving that earthly body.
Not viewed as scary by Buddhists because "life on this plane" is generally viewed as swimming in a bitter sea. Her soul was freed from suffering.

Duggars are religious weirdos, I have big problem with overzealous religions that are restrictive and prohibitive. Men in strict control "king like" roles? What century are they living in? Those kids may not be unhappy because they don't know anything else other than their life style. When TLC sends them out for filming, do they have exposure to the rest of the population? I block TLC off my satellite TV, but do they interact with people of other religions and races? What are their views about homosexuality? inter-racial marriages? inter-racial adoptions? There is no free thought in that family.

Good point, Admin. He certainly sounded sure that they didn't have the authority. Perhaps another phone call is in order tomorrow. I'll give it some thought.

Announcing your 20th baby on morning tv isn't exactly very humble.

Also found it very interesting when they were asked about making finances work they said "property investments" with no mention of the money they get from TLC for the show.

The sad thing is that Kate is liable to cost the Red Cross donations, because some people are going to see the pix or hear about it and decide to send their money elsewhere.

Query -- if the Red Cross wants Republican, conservative, Christian spokespersons, does that mean it rejects the support of Democratic, liberal, atheists? If so, I'd better find another charity to support, because I consider myself to be fairly liberal, I'm mostly a Democrat, but I'm not an atheist, I'm a Christian. LOL.

Well, they sure would have the *moral* authority to ask her to take it down.

Not that it would mean anything to this fame whore.

More reality T.V. kids "just playing" on Rick Steeves.

The producer tells Jackie, who is about 12, to "hold it" while she eats her fish. Then she looks at him annoyed and says I'm not going to eat it anyway.

So, so real!!!

Readerlady, the chairman of the Red Cross is currently Bonnie McElveen-Hunter. She is definitely southern Republican. She was on Elizabeth Dole's campaign team. It does not surprise me Red Cross is leaning Republican/conservative right now.

There's no way a Dole-ite would be okay with this naked-time. New post, I'm posting this in the new thread as well.

She's Crisis-Oriented, I know said...

Re Khate and her "blunders:"

She is a perfect example of what we (my family) used to describe as CRISIS ORIENTED. She doesn't feel ALIVE unless she has some big DRAMA going on, real or imagined. Either way, she is 100% responsible for making her constant molehills into mountains. Often, she has to invent the molehill to begin with.

Remember the Carly Simon song where she sang, "Suffering was the only thing made me feel (I was) half alive... now I haven't got time for the pain..." My mother was a narcissist and we deemed that "her" song. Oh, the stories I could tell.

Imo, KG is a Technicolor Shine the Light on Me Drama Queen Crisis Oriented Malignant Narcissist. Trouble is, without a lot of outside help and healthy role models, her children are "learning what they live," and some of them will grow into adults that constantly need to stir the pot and create drama for themselves in their daily lives; otherwise, they'll feel "dead." It's SO sad.

Sue, I would suggest that you try to have your contact there give you a name and number for a legal department, if possible. There has to be a staff attorney to look at this. It is NOT just about an innocent photo. Khate placed the photo on her home page AND placed this paragraph next to it:

Home Fire Relief Campaign

I'm happy to support American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania's Home Fire Relief Campaign this fall! It's exciting to be a part of the effort that will help home fire victims in my local area!

That sure as heck looks like an attempt at misrepresentation. I noticed that she has it right above her pimping for coupon cabin.

The Duggars are nothing like kate.kate needs a "tv" life to live the life she wants...a life she thinks she deserves cause she had 6 kids at 1 time.
The Duggars were doing just what they are now,way b4 TLC came along. The Duggars will be just fine when TLC lets them go.They didn't need this show to survive...or get by.The Duggars have no bills.

I know some say here...cause I like them, they get a pass. Not really. The Duggars live like they do even if the cameras were not there. So they dont watch tv.Why be on a tv show? They believe they are putting out a show that shows thier faith and wholesome living.I dont agree with everything Duggar. It's not the life I would choose.BUT...I would be a Duggar b4 I would be a gosselin.
Like I said...the show could end tomorrow. It wouldnt end them...they wouldnt go hungry....they wouldnt know how not to live.Michele wouldnt be selling herself to the highest bidder..like a coupon website. They wouldnt be running to any show that would take them on.
As for announcng births...I think the Today show paid for the 1st announcement.
I'm sure TLC has alot to say about what they show.Even if the duggars dont like it.BUT...I have yet to see, a duggar sitting on the potty...getting a shower...getting a compacted bowel removed...a bd party when the parents can't stand to be there. ect ect
The Duggars have 19 kids.Of course there are going to be boo boo's.Way more than the "normal" familes.
Anyway...I lost my train of thought...Damn the boxed wine!

Well, well, well, look at what a family with high order multiples can accomplish if they want to.

"Quints by Surprise" is back and the kids are 2 1/2 years old. These parents recognize their 'babies' are maturing so they need to buy a bigger dining room table, get the kids out of their cribs and into 'big kids' beds, and get them started learning things like letters, words, coloring, etc.

The kids, although short, managed to sit at the table and eat a meal without being in highchairs! How about that! AND, despite the expected chaos, they participated in some of the assembly of the beds and table, ie: they were a family. AND, mom, an ex-teacher is teaching the kids to recognize their names, letters of the alphabet and words that are associated with them, and they're developing their fine motor skills by frequently coloring and doing crafts. Gosh, the contrasts between the parenting styles of Kate and this mom is astounding. One is a nurturing mother who is loving and warm and hands on and then there's Kate... who has none of those qualities.

I'm sick that these parents have opted to continue filming and exploiting their precious children, but I'm encouraged since it seems that when the cameras are off they are hands on parents who are raising their quintuplets +1 to be individuals with education and family a priority. And then there's Kate...who doesn't and isn't and refuses to ever be or do... any of the above.

If I am remembering correctly, Michelle was taking birth control pills when they first got married.

Then when she quit the pills to start a family, their first pregnancy was a miscarriage. That was when she decided it was wrong to use birth control and to just let God decide when she would become pregnant, not a birth control product.

She was traumatized by that miscarriage.

Why was she not traumatized by the birth of their last baby, Josie? That seemed pretty traumatizing to me.

What will it take to put an end to her pregnancies?

How traumatic does that need to be?

Sandy said...

That ridiculous pose Kate did with the blanket makes her feet look HUGE. Poor posing. Never point the camera in that direct. Pathetic.

Grammy of nine said...

Kate has no idea how horrible she appears in most pictures. No self-awareness in her.

I, too, watched a bit of the Quints by Surprise opener and watched a family who are loving and supportive of each other. We'll see what TLC will do with this family by using fancy trips, activities, etc. to help keep this interesting. Heard lots of crying and saw some hitting going on, but nothing like the Gosselin mess. The Jones appear to have it together and are willing to allow their children to grow up appropriately. These parents don't scream and appear to be loving on their couch interviews. It's still exploitation of the kids, just not quite as distasteful as the Gosselins.
