Kate at Steve Irwin Day Gala Dinner

Twitter.com

Kate took to the, um, podium today in Brisbane, Australia at the Gala Dinner and auction. No word yet on how much lunch with Kate this Monday went for.

I've never seen Kate in something so classy and high cut.

Go with the little black dress, always.

In all fairness, if there is something good to be said then by all means say it. She looks really nice there and one thing I do give her credit for, she apparently does not have one ounce of stage fright. They were talking about that on Joy as well last night and it is all but crippling for some people yet they get out there and do it any way.

After the whole I look naked under the blanket Red Cross-gate, if I were her adviser I would pick the absolutely most conservative dress I could find in her wardrobe.

Little black dress with high neckline? CHECK!

Do you think her hair is really that long, or is it extensions?

Of course she doesn't. Who is going to challenge her at this event? She's in charge, effectively speaking.

The people who came to this event chose to be present, and knew she'd be there. It's not as if she is on a TV show and can't be sure what's going to happen. It's not likely that someone at this paid event could get away with making a scene about her, or even challenging her slightly. She's safe.

I did not read all of the prior posts, but love this site. I do think Steve and Kate are an item. There is a co-dependency issue with their relationship, as there was with Jon. And I do believe that Jon was correct, something was going on years ago. Steve has two boys, so perhaps he spends time with them on the week-ends, they are his sons, and he needs to see them.

As for Kate's "charities", she always chooses to do charity far from home. Now that TLC is not paying for her travel, I do believe her travel to Australia was paid for by herself. She was reluctant to discuss this trip initially on Twitter, which is very telling. Normally, anything paid for by TLC was posted. She wants to continue to be "Traveling Mom" as she stated in her own posts on Twitter.

As for ARC locals, she could not do that right. She made it about herself with her ridiculous photo and ego, to try and keep herself relevant, and then changed the photo at the last minute to try to keep herself relevant. I doubt she gave one dime to ARC but rather used this opportunity to keep herself relevant.

Steve is obviously still in the picture and for a good reason. TLC is NOT paying him, so either she is paying him, or he is personally along for the ride for personal reasons. I think both she and Steve are holding this card private to try to get another reality show on TV once they officially become a "couple." Steve was been brought more into filming later and there was a reason for this, to see how the public responded to him. No very favorable, so TLC shelved this, as well as ANY show that involved Kate (Twist of Kate).

Kate is cooked, full of crap, and TLC wants nothing more to do with her or Steve. TLC is hard pressed, after Jon's public accusations of a relationship with Steve many years ago, to try to fly them as a couple. I do think TLC was floating Kate's show for a while to get pulic opinion, but Steve and Kate together would only prove Jon's original accusations correct. So TLC dumped her after flying dating Kate which was a disaster. Kate, of course, went along with all of this, hoping to spring a new show. They are both now screwed as TLC finally decided this was not where they wanted to go, knowing Kate is already a repulsive human being who only thinks of herself being on TV.

Gosselin8ComeFirst said...

There has been far too many instances of her being all about her, never mind ratings for a show with Kate and Steve. I think TLC tested the waters in spite of sinking ratings, and knew this would be a loser.

Most importantly, I can only imagine what these 8 kids have seen and heard over the course of the last 2 years. Kate needs to go away and worry about her kids FIRST and how all of this will affect them. However, I fear this will NEVER happen. There will be books to come from the kids in years to come, as she has cut off all contact with family (who does that) unless she was afraid they would try to stop the exploitation. All about Kate, and she knew her family was not on board with her phony escapades. This goes way back, and I think there is a reason for this.

Sorry so long, but the fact that she did not make arrangements for the tups for trick-or-treat, and that they appear to have no outside contacts with friends at this juncture in their life, indicates to me that she does not want the younger kids to be able to have any life outside filming, and there is a reason for this. I think she knows a few of the tups are resentful that they have not been permitted to have normal friendships/activites, like any other normal 7 year old would. Never mind 2 were expelled. I think she is afraid the younger kids will talk to friends, which is why she has kept them so isolated from other kids. Disgusting and selfish. I can hear the drills she gives these kids before they go to school. This is just SO wrong. I am sure that there are things they are not allowed to discuss with Jon either, as she fills their young heads with her Kate poison. (You will lose this house, will not be able to go to your current school, and God knows what else). She really is a piece of work and always has been.

Mimi to 3 said...

She has extensions, no question in my mind. Either that or it has grown about 4 inches in a month.

As far as her not being afraid in front of a mic, of course she's not, she's in control.

Never ported a comment before, but I'm doing it now, since I believe Kate news will be spare and she won't really re-emerge until her gig at the Zoo on Tuesday. Forgive me if you all feel it's de trops.

I have long believed that Steve is the reason TLC ultimately had to drop Kate and also why she won't be getting a TV show of her own any time soon. I think that over the course of K+8, she kept pushing to get him brought into camera range more and more, in an effort to show a "developing" (though in fact already well-established) relationship and thus set up an on-screen transition to Steve as "daddy." But I think TLC rightly realized this was a non-starter in terms of all of the $$$ they'd already invested in Kate as "struggling, independent, SINGLE mom of 8." ("Twist of Kate," anyone? Not to mention all they still have invested in their many other "reality" properties.) And if TLC wasn't ready and willing to make a buck off THIS highly dysfunctional twist in the Kate story, it's hard to imagine any other producer/network touching it with a 10-foot pole. I think Kate really burned her TLC bridges with a lot of outrageous demands and petulant tantrums, and at some point in the journey, TLC said "enough." And she was done, just like that. Ratings certainly weren't enough to sustain her anymore.

With all of her insistence on K+8 being "the realest reality show," her coming out now as Steve's GF/fiance/wife, after literally YEARS of speculation from the outside (and LYING from the inside), would earn her the dubious honor of the "fakest reality star" for the rest of time. I don't think Stevie can be released from the closet until the dreams of "stardom" have irrevocably been put to bed.

I also think it's quite possible that she's been trying to peddle a new show starring Steve as the G8's "new daddy," but even the most shameless promoter would find that a hard pill to swallow after all of the lumps Jon took for his post-separation antics and her concurrent long-suffering Madonna act.

I think that sooner or later, they will be out in the open, but not as long as Kate is clinging to the SuperMom image as a possible career path.

I hasten to add that ALL of the above is total conjecture on my part, but given the little clues from the RV trip (and other episodes--remember Kate disappearing with Steve in Alaska without the kids for a couple of days?), what TLC decided to air, comments from people who saw them on the road, etc., I don't feel like I am coming out of left field on this.

What does everyone else think? Let's discuss!

Heide said...

I really am not sure about Kate and Steve being an item. I used to think so. I even think that they want people to think so.

But part of what changed my mind was when I saw the pictures of Kate and Jaime together - those pictures of them in Kate's bed and Jaime in Kate's bathrobe etc. I've never seen Kate smile like that unless she was in front of a camera on the red carpet or something similar.

Also, the two necklaces that Kate wore were always a question in my mind. Whenever Jaime was there, she wore one and Kate wore the other. Whenever Jaime wasn't around, Kate always wore them both. However, since that blow up on that vacation, I haven't seen Kate wear the two necklaces again - so maybe she and Jaime split.

I think Kate completely depends on Steve because she can't manage anything on her own. But I'm just not sure about the romance.

Just my thoughts.

thinking it over said...

Gift of Gab, your speculations may not be all that far out of line. They sure would explain why Steve is still around. It's difficult to believe that Kate is paying his salary, although if she's willing to pimp out her kids, maybe she's also willing to hire attention for herself, if you understand what I'm saying.

There are alternative explanations for everything you've mentioned, but your take on the situation makes a lot of sense.

$30K for all of that? Is he joking? Even in AUS$, that is . . . squat. I don't know if this amount includes the Silent Auction items (numbering more than 50). Even if it only includes the event auction items (less than 15 total), that is a pathetic showing (although they weren't such great items to being with).

Whatever they may have gotten for Kate's lunch, it certainly was NOT worth first-class airfare, 5-star hotel, etc., etc., x 2. One would have to assume that the Taylor Swift signed guitar brought in at least as much as Oprah's used Nikes?

Whoa. 30 grand? I work with a homeless youth ministry and they have two annual fundraisers. One just happened a couple weeks ago, a dessert extravaganza. Volunteers and staff are asked to provide desserts and savory platters, people host tables, youth speak and inspire others to donate and they just raised $110,000 and counting - no auction items at all, just yummy desserts made by mediocre people, in a donated venue decorated (and cleaned up) by mediocre people, attended by mediocre people who care about homeless kids. Wow, 30K for a high-profile event like that is pretty pathetic.

Pity Party said...

Surely they jest - maybe that 30K is just for one day, isn't it going on all week?

I have been wondering about the "gift" that she might be getting - you don't think, surely there is no way they would or could give this woman (gulp) a Koala.......NO!!!!!!!!!!

I still can't understand WHY Kate is in Australia for this event, much less speaking at it and entering her lame luncheon to auction.

How much did Kate really know, or care about Steve Irwin before her trip last January. Even then, she probably never researched anything.

My guess is that this is also a BIG FU to TLC. She had it set in her mind that she was going to return to Australia in the fall. She was tweeting that last Spring and a mere cancellation of her show was not going to stop her. She probably is spending the kids money just to say FU, I don't need you to pay TLC, I have my own money!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to hear what her auction items bring in. I can just hear people muttering in the audience, "Who the heck is Kate Gosselin?"

Pity Party said...

That is all Oprah sent - a pair of Nikes - surely they came with a big check as well.

Gift of grab said...

I believe the "event" auction items (they are listed separately in the auction program, they are clearly the "headliners") were probably gavelled at the dinner. The rest of the items, the Silent Auction ones, may have a longer expiration date, but probably not by much.

If all they raised on the event items was $30K, that is truly abysmal, at least by U.S. standards. NOT that any of the event items (with the possible exception of the Swift-signed guitar) looked to be worth all that much. I mean, come on, one of them was Robert Irwin's worn khakis and a komodo dragon statue, which was an "event" item and was termed "priceless." Of course, the items are a small point, it's supposed to be about the CAUSE.

The dinner was $245 a plate (though less if you bought a table, and less still if you bought it long enough out). Last year's dinner supposedly had nearly 400 attendees. The venue (the convention center) was comped, but that may or may not have included food. The bar (or at least wine) was donated. So if they brought in 400 diners, then it's $100K, but there would have to be costs associated that were not comped by the venue.

Net-net, and not counting the Silent Auction items, unless there are some very big donors that have not yet been disclosed, this event, with possibly 400 attendees, probably earned less than $100,000 profit for the Zoo, based on what has so far been disclosed. Based on my knowledge of similar events in the U.S., this would be a terrible showing, especially if the Zoo's overhead, organization costs, "comp" costs (that is, if they actually had to spend anything to bring Kate/Steve et el. into the country), etc., are still to be deducted from that sum.

I have no idea what similar events have yielded in the past, nor what their expectations might have been for this year. And I doubt that there will ever be full disclosure on these points. I DO hope that they were not suckered into laying out a single red cent for Kate+Wrangler, because it most certainly would not have been worth it.

Pity Party, I doubt Oprah sent a check. She must be asked for items for fundraising constantly. I have a friend who works for an NBA team and she could not keep up with all the requests even in the team's town. Imagine what Oprah must face. Or what her people must face. Even so, that is a pitiful amount for something of hers. The whole thing sounds like a massive fail. If it IS only 30K raised by the auction, that won't even keep a zoo full of animals fed for a week.

Sam said...

$30K on first day does not even cover Kreider & Squeaky Kiwi's first class R/T airline tickets from Qantus. Venue costs, flowers, food & beverage, wait staff, advertising costs and administrative costs, Sorry do not see how $100K could recoupe the cost the venue. Terri Irwin sounds as clueless as Kate is, no wonder the foundation is in trouble.

PJ's Momma - you and your community are awsome!

PJ's momma said...

Sam, it's a huge blessing to be involved with that organization. Their other fundraiser is a walkathon in summer, similar amounts raised. No frills, no big guests, just kids and the people who want to help them, walking side by side and then enjoying a barbecue together afterward. A church band comes and plays. People stand along the route and cheer. We prepared all the food the day before. Not a dime spent on labor or making things fancy - it's all done by the few employees and a ton of volunteers. It's a beautiful thing. It's only one of 4-5 organizations in this city doing the exact same thing (big homeless problem here). Kate doesn't know the meaning of charity. You don't even need to donate money if you can't. You can hold the hand of a scared kid or a homeless lady (in a day shelter where I also volunteer) while they just cry or rail or whatever. They need human love and acceptance as much as they need showers, meals, etc.
She just makes me sick.

I have never had anything positive to say about Kate. Tonight, I will try a different approach. Maybe if we start treating her like the teenage child she behaves like, we can help her change and grow as a person and mother. I will start with some positive reinforcement. So (swallowing hard), here goes:

Dear Kate,

The black dress you wore in Australia is lovely. It was stylish and classy. You don't have to dress provocatively to look sexy and glamorous. For some speaking engagements like this, you might want to try wearing your hair pulled back in a neat chignon. It will make you look elegant. Nice job.

Sincerely,

A non-fan who wishes you would take a good, hard look at yourself and try to become a better person and mother.

Khate's lunch with 8 was on the list. I wonder what it earned? I guess her tweety pal isn't saying. Maybe it was minimal. How much would anyone pay for a 9 person lunch? At an average of $35 a head... $315?

As for Oprah's shoes, I wonder if she'd left them for the auction when she visited Terri earlier this year. Used shoes? Not something I'd bid on.

Even delusional Kate seems to know she can't dance. And it seemed to cause her pain to do so, even when she was paid to on DWTS. So I sort of doubt she's dancing.

I asked this a few days ago, but I think it got lost: does anyone still believe TLC has her under contract until February? I think they cut her loose in August, but I remember a few people said they think she's still under contract with them.

I just don't see it. Why would they do that? How would it benefit TLC? It wouldn't. And they don't seem to be filming "specials" (ha).

I totally believe Kate got the Australian Zoo to fly her out for this (she sure as hell wouldn't spend her own money!) though that was a bone-headed move on their part. But I hope she enjoys the shit out of it, as I don't exactly see people or organizations lined up to fly her around anymore.

From the website:

The Steve Irwin Day Gala Dinner celebrates the life and legacy of the original Wildlife Warrior - Steve Irwin. All proceeds from this fundraising dinner go towards Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, to continue the conservation work Steve was so passionate about.

In 2010, the Steve Irwin Day Gala Dinner was celebrated in style at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, with 380 guests attending with a touch of khaki and helping to raise over $100,000 for wildlife conservation!

Our goal in 2011 is to continue to keep Steve's dream alive; to celebrate the life of the one and only Crocodile Hunter and raise vital funds for Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors.

The Steve Irwin Day Gala Dinner will be held on Saturday 12 November 2011 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. This will be a ripper of an event and we hope to see you there as we KHAKI IT together!!

If Kate wanted to HELP she could have easily sent a nice creative gift basket full of her autographed books, dvds of the shows, etc.for the silent auction and stayed home to spare the expense this trip cost. Dallas Lady, my understanding on the contract with TLC is this (and I could be wrong) but I think they have her under contract and can use her as they wish when they might want to film up until that time. I've wondered for a long time why we even have anyone sign contracts since they seem to have no teeth to them and companies can do as they wish and break them at will.

Sounds like one flew over the cuckoos nest! If she has mental issues, it's sad. If she's just plain nuts, she's probably a typical sheeple. Either way, these are the ones who should set Kate's radar on alert.

Kate is unemployed said...

Kate is so desperate to flee the kids she so desperately wanted (?) that she's actually available to fly to Australia for a charity event. She can try to label this as work, but it's nothing more than a vacation for her and a probable financial drain on the zoo. I'm thinking the gala failed to net much money because the Australian public is disenchanted with the opportunistic Terri Irwin and her mismanagement of the zoo and her kids' lives. Kate must love Terri because she, too, has no problem using her kids to line her pockets. Kate's willingness to go to this 'gala' is indicative of how fall her star has fallen and the desperation with which she wants to escape her mediocre existence. She is nothing special save for the gaggle of miserable children. I think she'd show up for anything that would take her from the kids. Too bad the invitations are few and far between and of no prestige in the entertainment world. She's circling the drain

Marie said...

This is exactly what Kate wants. To be famous without being directly attached to her kids. She wants the notoriety (sp?) for being a mother of the famous Gosselin 8 but none of the responsibilities of their day to day care.

She wants to work, regardless of what it is, to work in front of any camera that will have her. Because when she is in front of a camera she can easily manipulate the situation for her own benifit. Simple as that. Sad, but so true.

Sorry for anything misspelled tonight folks, I guess I'm lazy or too brain tiered to see if something is not spelled correctly. Sometimes words look right no matter how long you stare at them.

Admin, remember a few weeks ago when we were posting links to all those articles about Terri Irwin and the financial problems at the Australia Zoo under her management? Also, Steve's father left the zoo, which HE founded.

Well, I guess Khate and Terri really have a LOT in common - not just child exploitation, making young kids work, but also keeping them estranged and isolated from their own grandparents:

Steve Irwin's dad hopes to see Bindi again
November 10, 2010

Steve Irwin's father says he hopes for a reconciliation with his family after falling out with Steve's widow Terri two years ago.

Bob Irwin split from Australia Zoo on Queensland's Sunshine Coast soon after his son's death in 2006, amid speculation he didn't like the direction the zoo was taking under Terri and Steve's best friend, Wes Mannion.

There was also speculation he did not approve of his young granddaughter Bindi's career.

Mr Irwin on Wednesday he hoped to make up with his family, despite not being able to remember when he last saw his grandchildren Bob and Bindi.

"Who knows what's going to happen in the future? We don't know and maybe things will change," Mr Irwin told the Seven Network.

Steve Irwin died in September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming on the Great Barrier Reef.

Bob Irwin said it was his decision to leave the tourist attraction after founding it nearly 40 years ago.

"You have to be able to live with yourself. I find I've got to have a certain amount of integrity," Mr Irwin said.

Asked if the direction of the zoo would be different if Steve were still alive, he said: "I'm sure it would. He was a pretty big influence, wasn't he?"

But, Mr Irwin, said he had nothing to say about the current direction of the zoo.

"It has nothing to do with me," he said.

"I have no thoughts on where the zoo is going and how it's working - it's entirely up to them."

Mr Irwin said he still talked to Steve and wanted to continue his legacy.

"I got a little message from Steve ... it's probably more a feeling that you get and I'll admit I have that same feeling with animals.

"I can say I can talk to the animals."

Brisbane Times

Oh, but I'm sure that Terri, just like Khate, will downplay any family estrangement and tell you what a wonderful, rich life her kids are experiencing.

Administrator said...

Nobody, there are so many similarities between those two child exploiters it's uncanny.

Terri had her own version of letting a kid go under a car. In her case, it was letting her kid be around a dangerous rhino. This happened this summer not six months after the Gosselins visited. The rhino charged her and the kids, it's lucky they didn't all die right there on camera:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dp5ONfR1RE

Administrator said...

Steve's father just didn't know how to help them of course. Bet Terri and Kate had hours and hours worth of things to talk about and justify each other.

And another similarity to Kate? In the end, Terri and only Terri will bring herself down. She is running the zoo into the ground all by herself just like Kate ran her career into the ground all by herself.

What others have done to them??? That's rich.

Kate did this to her kids. I read I Just want You to Know. The vast majority of the book is Kate calling Mady a liar, disclosing her children's intimate, private feelings about the divorce, pointing out each and every kids' worst faults, sharing extremely private letters to them, and complaining about how annoying fans are.

Oh, and she admits she truly loves the media and wants to be in the spotlight, she flat out says it.

That's that book, in a nutshell.

Nobody Likes a Narcissist (NLAN) said...

Admin, yes, I remember the rhino incident.

Bindi is 13 and has a ton of responsibility as the face of this "empire". I posted these excerpts from an article earlier today:

FIVE years after the death of her famous father Steve, Bindi Irwin, 13, is firmly installed as the face of the Australia Zoo empire. But is she for real? Wendy Tuohy is pleasantly surprised.

******

And with 11 new television and multimedia projects on the drawing board with the Irwins' new production partner Fremantle Media, Bindi looks as if she's about to start her run. She's certain she is ready.

------------------------

We all know Khate only dreams of such lucrative deals for her kids.

In another eerie similarity, Terri even pimps out her kids' birthdays:

Bindi's 13th Birthday

TLC ship is sinking said...

Dallas Lady said...does anyone still believe TLC has her under contract until February? I think they cut her loose in August, but I remember a few people said they think she's still under contract with them.

I just don't see it. Why would they do that? How would it benefit TLC? It wouldn't. And they don't seem to be filming "specials" (ha).

------------

Kate has denied that she's still under contract until February, via twitter.

However, I think that she and TLC have some sort of exclusive tv rights agreement from her Kate Plus 8 contract. I don't necessarily believe this entitles TLC to pay Kate any money for her exclusive tv rights (unless Kate negotiated for it), but others might disagree. Why would TLC do this? With exclusive tv rights, Kate cannot work with another network without TLC's permission (possibly entitling them to a percentage cut of Kate's new contract). She also couldn't move Kate Plus 8 to another network. These exclusive tv rights give TLC the ability to continue using Kate in the future, if they want to do so, such as international promotion of Kate Plus 8. This exclusivity could last till February or for a specific amount of time both parties agreed to.

http://www.realitytvkids.com/2011/09/international-syndication-rights-and.html

Kate was still popular at the time they were possibly negotiating her new contract, that TLC wanted exclusive tv rights to profit off of her continued popularity. I do agree with some past posters who said that TLC wouldn't let her go until she was no longer marketable to other networks. This is true now. I think it's a combination of TLC's exclusive tv rights and Kate ruining her marketability as a wholesome supermom (in addition to her mediocre media skills) that is preventing Kate from landing another tv job.

I could see how both parties think these exclusive tv rights agreements and long-term contracts are beneficial to them. For Kate, she thought it would prolong her tv career over multiple years. For TLC, they would have exclusive tv rights to use Kate and her family until they were no longer marketable. It has been beneficial to TLC because they've made so much profit off Kate and her family. They are continuing to make money off Kate Plus 8, now airing it on their international TLC channel without necessarily having to pay Kate any syndication rights (unless stated in her contract).

Is it possible that with all her LOVE of travel, being gone so much. I don't know how much traveling she will do for her coupon "hobby," I refuse to cal blogging a job. Now, there are some who make a living at it, but mostly I view it as a hobby really. Couldn't this being gone so much eventually lead her to court with Jon over being neglectful?

I mean Kate seems to pride herself on her "working," away from home as much as possible because it's more exciting. With her doing this, passing kids off to nannies, even having then there when she is at home. Just speaks to her not willing to even bother.

Her recent spouts of bad media involving kids, (i.e. under the bus, among others,) at what point could this get Kate into a bit of battle with Jon? I mean I'm saying it's possible. Didn't he already try and file something against her on her dancing stint? Being gone so much but lost that battle?

Hi All,

A couple of points:
1) A Welcome to Country dance is a greeting by the traditional owners of the land. In this case the Gubbi Gubbi people. No one would be expected to join in.

2) The cost of the dinner isn't that high. I'm off to my school's formal on Tuesday night (Our version of prom for the graduating class). I have to go (teacher) and the ticket cost me $100.

3) No mention on the news tonight about Steve Irwin day or the gala and I live about 40 minutes from Brisbane on the gorgeous Gold Coast.

4) In case it's mentioned again, Kate won't be staying at the Chalk Hotel. This is a Hotel in the old Aussie sense of the word, meaning 'Drinking place'. It may once upon a time have had accomodation, but doesn't any longer. It's not the kind of place I'd choose for a classy lunch. Very blue colour. Kate will fit right in.

5) I'm a bit upset for all our Aussie Celebs who get ditched for all Terri's US friends. You'd think we could protect our own wildlife!!

Enough from me, it's late here.

Upthread someone said Taylor Swift autographed guitar auctioned for $1,000,000 in the U.S. The only link I could find (see below) said $16,250. $16,250 for such a young singer's autograph on a guitar is impressive. I didn't read anything about that auction so a million may have been mentioned somehow, but it is not what her guitar ended up fetching.

Another point, several people have mentioned the "two day absence" in Alaska when Steve and Kate disappeared. But the Alaska episode explained that: Kate, Steve, Mady and Cara helicoptered onto a glacier, remember? Kate and Steve may have something going on but this time they were accompanied by children.

Maybe Steve had to buy it himself, he's from down there and might be able to drag up 8 or 9 friends (seem to have seen differing #'s) to go with him. I have never, ever bought the Kate/Jamie relationship. The RV trip confirmed this for me.

I do truly believe now that she and Steve are in a relationship. Initially, I think TLC enjoyed the free publicity about the speculation, but I have to wonder if Gina threatened to make a stink and TLC decided Kate wasn't worth it. It is obvious and it begs to one's common sense, that with Steve still hanging around that something is going on. For whatever reason (and it could be simply for image or Steve doesn't want to marry her) it is played out as a business relationship. They are just together too much and her reactions to him on camera during the RV trip just couldn't be denied. He is number one in her life, just not so sure she is number one in his.

Yep. Thanks giving is going to sneak up on her and she will be scrambling for what to do so her kids will have a plate "brimming with delicious goodness". She'll get a Black Friday turkey and hide it in the basement, hand the kids a paper plate and tell them to hunt for it.

And the store. Don't forget the store. Then the kids will find their spot on the basement floor and exchange thighs for a leg or a wing for a breast.

Note to Gosselin children:
Your childhood belongs to your mother. These years are all about her. When you grow and get out from under her hoof, your adult years will be SOOOOOO much better and you can celebrate holidays HOW YOU LIKE THEM to your heart's content. Life will get better. Hang in there.

Regarding the ARC Fire Relief picture, I don't know about other municipalities, but where I live the local Fire Department would not be pleased with that big heavy chair in front of the French doors. These doors would be considered a fire exit. In the event of a fire it would be difficult for small children to move that chair and could result in tragedy.

TLC Stinks.. I totally agree that Krap and Steve are in a relationship. Some of the latter RV trip shows kind of let us know that, as well as the fact that he is still hanging around. I do have to say the way Kate spoke to him on the RV trip was so much like she spoke to Jon, and that her freak-out over the pizza was another sign. Both extreme Kate behaviors for the man in her life, depending on her mood. And between the Sara Palin episode with TLC showing what she is truly like to work with and her RV behavior, when they were getting to ditch her, I can only imagine what life is like for her kids. Narcissistic and Bi-Polar much Kate? These type of people can be the most difficult people to live with, let alone understand. They are up and down like there is no tomorrow. Unfortunately, the kids are probably trying to figure out "which" Kate they are dealing with on a day to day basis. I wish the kids the best, but do not predict a happy future for them, unless she continues to travel 50% of the time. She is a mother in name only, delegating duties to nannies, and traveling as much as possible. Never was fit to be a full-time mother to 8 kids, and will never admit it.

Forgot to mention that TLC suddenly started filming Steve (non-stop) on the RV trip, where they previously tried to hide his presence on so many occassions.

Maybe they were trying to get a handle on whether Kate/Steve interaction would be marketable but as we all know, it was a miserable fail. There was no reason for a "Body Guard" to be filming, let alone going on so many trips with her. In my opinion, Steve is not going anywhere, even now that TLC is no longer paying his fees. Guess we will see for sure in Febraury 2012, after the contract "officially" expires. I know Kate said she is no longer under TLC contract, but there may have been some "amenities" afforded to her - Steve- through this time period, where he is still paid by TLC. But I strongly suspect, that they are a couple and she is paying him. We shall see.

purseboy and kart continuing to call him a 'bodyguard' is just their 'f-u' to the public.

They know he isn't a bodyguard. We know he isn't a bodyguard. But they get their perverse, demented fun out of reading here what we discuss here. They find their jollies by reading here.

And I actually think they may make some 'strategic marketing decisions' based on what is discussed here as well.

No bodyguard wears flip-flops, no bodyguard carries purses and bags, no bodyguard pays attention to the hooker when the hooker kids are around, no bodyguard eats dinner with the client, no bodyguard sits on the beach right next to the client and lets strangers approach, no bodyguard walks across the street to solicit a cute guy for the client.......

At this point, I don't have anything to say in awe or outrage about what he does.

HE IS NOT A BODYGUARD.

They are playing us by letting us continue to think so. The red herring that he is now her manager is another f-u...........

As far as I'm concerned, he's a sucker for hanging around her and as big a loser as she is. We may make the assumption that he is a nice guy who got sucked in by her, but he could very well be as narcissistic and manipulative as she is. i.e., a really not nice guy who is clever enough to be able to use kart without her realizing it. She's not too bright...

He'll leave when TLC quits paying him, when she can't pay him, when he realizes he can't make any money 'managing' her, or when he simply can't stand to be around her anymore.

I get so frustrated when I see any mention of him. What a shmuck.........

Question, if nobody minds a quick off topic. Does it sound strange to anyone else that I opted for a chocolate cake instead of pie? Everyone else I know says I'm weird. I'm just not a fan of pie crust much.

Dwindle and Permanent Name -- Hi Neighbors! I live in Central Ohio. I'm about 1 1/2 hours from you PN, and maybe 2 from you, Dwindle. Depends on how far up in that NE corner you are. Y'all are lucky that it's sunny where you are. It's gray and blustery here and I think I've heard a couple of rumbles of thunder.

Kate does look nice in the picture above. Assuming the dress isn't cut up to her hoohaa, I'd go with almost classy. D'ya suppose someone is actually getting through to her that modest can be far sexier than outright slutty?

I intended to chime in on the coopon vs. cyoupon. I grew up in Ohio (Southern), and I've always said coopon. One caveat, though. My father was from the Tidewater area of Va., and I picked up some of his accent. My mom, who grew up in S. Ohio too, also said coopon. Again, I don't know if she picked it up from him or not. I really don't remember how others from around there said it. I haven't lived in that area for 30+ years. I did grow up saying "might could" though. Got that from the Ky. relatives.

Marie, I don't find it odd at all. I'll take chocolate cake over any kind of pie (except for coconut cream) any day.

Kate's not going to get home before Thursday at the earliest. That leaves her a week to "write" her blog and plan her T-Day dinner. I wonder how long it's going to take her to start complaining of how stressed and exhaustedish she is? Maybe the kids are lucky enough to have Thanksgiving with Jon this year. That would give them something to really be thankful for.

Feign excitement? Why? What's in it for her?

It's not at all likely that Kate is excited, or even interested, in having lunch with a bunch of fans, or even strangers.

How on earth would she make it through an entire meal without screaming at someone? If that meal was auctioned off, she's probably shaking in her boots at the thought of being captive in a public place with no control over who talks to her.

Maybe she'll sit in an elevated chair at the top of the table so that no one can approach her. I could see that working.

About the money raised: I suspect there isn't going to be much gloating by anyone over that. It's hard to believe that any participation by Kate and handler brought in enough money to cover their expenses alone.

She and Terri Irwin are two of a kind, only Terri's a lot better at it.

You would think that Khate's Australian sheeple (mumbear9) didn't just fly there to attend the dinner and meet Khate, but to at least try bidding on the lunch with Khate. I haven't checked her Twitter since yesterday, but when I looked, she had only tweeted about the dinner and meeting Khate. She didn't mention the auction and the lunch at all. It's odd that she wouldn't even say she tried for it but lost out to someone who bid X amount of dollars. Plus, I see Khate finally tweeted and she didn't mention it either.

It's very early Monday morning there right now (5:20 am), and the lunch is at 1:00 PM. It will be interesting to see what Khate tweets before or after lunch, if she tweets at all. I agree that her tweet from last night is juvenile and silly, ME, ME, ME. It's disgusting she can't even mention the reason she's there and to mention how much money was raised for the zoo.

I don't think this sheeple has that kind of a budget. Somewhere (tweets someone posted earlier) she said that she had never taken a trip alone before. This was a big deal to her.

She came across (to me, anyway) like a homebound mother of a lot of kids who gushes over Kate like a 13 YO with a bad crush, and thinks the title "mother" means you get a pass on any way you want to treat your kids. Or gives Kate a pass, anyway.

I guess she didn't even bid on the lunch, not only because of the price, but because she'd be the only one there with Khate. It's supposed to be a lunch for the winning bidder and eight friends. Mumbear is on this trip all alone, it seems. I had figured that she took a friend along with her for a girls' vacation, but it seems she is all alone and quite bored. After a morning and afternoon at the zoo on Sunday, she was done by 4 pm and tweeting. It looks like she tweeted all evening, while watching Family Ties, Happy Days, and The Brady Bunch alone in her hotel room. Yeah, that sounds like a worthwhile trip.

I still think it's very odd that she has not mentioned anything at all about the winning bidder for lunch with Khate!

You know, this mumbear lady reminds me why one of the charities I worked for moved away from auctions. It was a ladies-only event, around Mother's Day, and we put in many, many hours getting a substantial auction together, while others coordinated a brunch, decorations, servers, etc. It was a lot of work. A LOT. Each year the proceeds doubled, which was great. But......after year 2, the organizers saw that many were taking advantage of the opportunity to have a nice mother's day tea/brunch for the cost of their ticket (which was probably $15/$20) and couldn't really afford to bid on auction items. That sort of defeats the purpose, so they moved toward a more direct approach of inviting regular (and big) donors to a similar event (no auction, hence no work for that) and just asking for money, and they encouraged the donors to invite their like-minded friends. It was a bold move, but they raise a LOT more that way and it's much easier. You can't blame anyone for just wanting to go to a nice event now and then, but it's about fundraising. I bet this might be the last year the Irwins do this. It's counterproductive, or at least seems that way with the little info out there.

As far as I'm concerned, he's a sucker for hanging around her and as big a loser as she is. I think he's her manager too. Not sure about whether they are romanticaly involved. I'm still on the fence about that one. But I do think he is the one managing her "career". Who knows, maybe he is the one advising her on her appearance and her actions. Maybe he knows the more negative publicity she gets, the more press she'll get? Maybe he's advising her to dress slutty, get those God awful tanning booth tans etc... Bad publicity is better than no publicity in their minds anyway.

My husband and I are planning a road trip for next summer. We'll be gone about a week to ten days and our daughter will have work and doesn't really want to go (she's seen the part of the country we're going to and doesn't like long car trips).

She'll be just a few months shy of 18 at that time, but I still feel weird in terms of what if something happens, what if she's in a car accident or whatever. We'll speak to her daily and we're having a friend of mine spend the night at our house each night just to feed the animals and be an adult presence in case of an emergency (she certainly won't be babysitting our daughter or asking her questions about her plans, etc.).

Kate doesn't seem to have the parent chip or mothering gene or something. She really seems happy and carefree when not around her kids and is miserable as hell when she is around them. Why have them if that's how you are?

I think he is a real jerk and yes, is probably just as much a narcissist as she is.

Let's just see how Thanksgiving plays out this year. I was shocked that no Gina appeared with Steve last year. Very, very telling. I think they are done, thanks to Kate. Remember, she had no problem going after Jon even though he had a girlfriend at the time they first met.

Now that TLC is out of the picture, I don't think we will see the photo ops of Gina hugging Kate anymore.

The continued denial of an affair is a puzzler, though, unless it is to protect Kate's brand or Steve's sons or even to avoid a messy divorce.

But hey, I would love to be wrong and see the Neild family stay intact.

Re lunch bid, I don't believe that Terri Irwin or whoever is running the dinner would have let this go unbid, not with Kate sitting right there. That would have made for a huge amount of awkwardness. It is certainly possible that if no one stepped up, someone connected to the Zoo was instructed to do so, just to save face. Afterward, and privately, the whole lunch thing could be dropped with no one the wiser.

I am more interested in hearing what Kate had to say when she was up at the podium, and what the general reception toward her was. Was she recognized by most/some/no one? She certainly is a step down from the chief celebrity at last year's gala, Beau Bridges.

Wonder if we'll ever know. It doesn't look like this event got ANY coverage in the local press.

I just want to clear one thing up, as I think I have been misspeaking a bit. I kept saying that money raised was going to the "zoo". But that is not the case at all. The Australia Zoo is NOT a charity; it's a for profit organization, owned and operated by Terri Irwin.

The Steve Irwin Day Gala and Steve Irwin Day raise money to go to "Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors."

From the website's info about the Steve Irwin Day Gala Dinner:

Gala Dinner
About Steve Irwin Gala Dinner

This exclusive charity dinner celebrates the life of the one and only Crocodile Hunter, while raising much needed funds for Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors conservation projects within Australia and around the world.
----------------------

Also, from the About section:

----------------------

The section of the website about Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide says:

Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide was established in 2002, initially by Steve and Terri Irwin as a way to include and involve other caring people to support the protection of injured, threatened or endangered wildlife from the individual animal to an entire species.

It is our mission to be the most effective wildlife conservation organisation in the world through the delivery of outstanding outcome-based programs and projects, inclusive of humanity.

It is with this mission that Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors carries on the legacy of Steve Irwin by conducting wildlife conservation projects within Australia and around the world including; the Australian Wildlife Hospital, tiger conservation in Sumatra, elephant conservation in Sumatra and Cambodia, orangutan conservation in Sumatra, Tasmanian devil conservation, cheetah conservation in South Africa and whale conservation and research.

Our major sponsor, Australia Zoo, gives vital support to Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors by covering all administration costs and by providing other essential support where necessary. This means that 100% of all donations to the charity can be applied directly to where they are needed most, and make an immediate impact in the world of wildlife conservation.

Ummmmmmmmm....this nutcase named Kate makes it quite the habit of going on national television ,or begging for interviews from People Magazine, whining and bellyaching about how afraid she is since her show was cancelled and she doesn't know how she will support her kids. She goes on and on and on about being scared she can't support her kids without a TV show, and I'm quite certain being a part-time blogger isn't going to sustain her lavish lifestyle.

So, yeah, when she's on my tv whining about it, it becomes my business. And then when you see her turn around and spend an ascinine amount of money on a trip FOR HERSELF, a sportscar FOR HERSELF and God only knows what else FOR HERSELF....while she skimps and pinches pennies and waits for 1/2 price bargains when it comes to the kids.....what she spends her money on ( because she has chosen to be a public figure ) is everyone's business and everyone has a right to comment about it.

If she didn't want people knowing her financial business, then she needs to stay off tv and out of magazines whining about not having an income.

The pickings are very slim when you are trying to find someone who A) will travel that far and B) will fund the trip themselves. Kate most likely paid for this entire trip herself. It is highly unlikely the zoo paid for her to be there. My guess is she slapped down at least 10 grand to be in Aus. right now so she could soak up some much needed attention she's been missing here in the US. That old ego needed some stroking and she had to fly 12 hours to another continent to get it stroked. It doesn't, except that it's a fascinating indication of the lengths people will go to be touched by "celebrity".

This sheeple is a mother who admires Kate as a mother, and was willing to spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to see her, in spite of a fantastic amount of very public evidence that suggests that Kate is a very poor mother, and not pleasant even to her own fans.

It's sociology. Does it "matter"? Not the way Kate abuses her children, no, it doesn't. But it IS very public, and extremely interesting.

Maybe it's a good object lesson, too, in making sure that the things you wish for are what you really want, and the people you admire are really admirable.

All proceeds from Steve Irwin Day go to Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Worldwide

#################

It would be very interesting to know exactly how this works, financially speaking. "Wildlife Warriors" seems to be a group of kids whose pictures, and good deeds, are shown on the website. I couldn't find anything to explain what this has to do with "an immediate impact in the world of wildlife conservation".

Call me jaded, but this word play looks a lot like a shell game, and it looks very much as if people are supposed to believe that they are supporting a (possibly nonprofit -it's not, but people tend to assume they are) zoo, when they may actually be funding Terri Irwin.

I wouldn't donate to this "cause" because because of the way the Irwin children are being pimped out, but I'm guessing that there's a lot of other stuff here that wouldn't bear up under much scrutiny. There's a lot of weasly writing on that website.

Mama's livelihood rests primarily on the back of her young daughter, and there's nothing OK about that. Terri Irwin should be working, making sure her children get a proper childhood, and allowing them to join the family business (if it still exists) once they are young adults.

It's criminal that the family business rests on the shoulders of a barely 13 year old child, whose mother appears to be financially careless, if not irresponsible.

Oh, wait. Have we been here before?

There's finally one small article about the Gala Dinner, and they have Khate's photo with it. That's so odd; you'd think it would feature a photo of Terri, or Terri with the kids, who are all so well known there.

Night adds colour to khaki

THERE was hardly a piece of khaki in sight - especially not on the Irwin clan - when the 2011 Steve Irwin Day Gala Dinner was held to raise vital funds for the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre venue looked a treat and Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin were dressed to the nines for the occasion.

Special guests included Kate Gosselin, star of the hit reality television series Kate Plus 8, international model Ellie Gonsalves, musician Xavier Rudd and Dr Chris Brown, host of Network Ten's Bondi Vet.

The fun will switch to Australia Zoo tomorrow when many of the same celebrities are guests at Steve Irwin Day.

I don't care or speculate on how other people spend their money, but if someone CHOOSES to go on TV and TALK about their money situation CONSTANTLY, then people are going to talk about it. That seems so elementary that you should be able to understand it. I wonder why you don't get it.

Tweet-le, the comment was actually about mumbear9's expensive trip across Australia to meet Kate. Mumbear9 is on Twitter and is a star-struck defender of Kate's exceptional status as a mother.

Mumbear9 has not been on TV carrying on about her finances, but she has a public Twitter feed, and, apparently, a public blog. She's ended up being a topic of interest because she is publicly discussing her trip and her adoration of all things Kate.

This is inevitable fallout from life on the Internet. Mumbear9 thinks she has a relationship with Kate, she discusses it online, others read it and comment because it's all part of the whole pathology that has allowed Kate to pimp out her kids and grift for years.

So it's sick, but it's a different sick from Kate's whining about Kate's personal finances.

=============

Because it involves simple reasoning.

It's not only television. Check her tweets...the endless cries of how expensive things are, making ends meet at a single mom with EIGHT, count 'em EIGHT kids, how can they afford this and that, gym lessons are too expensive, Hersheypark is too expensive, and on and on and on. She put it out there. She needs to shut up about her financial situation if she and others don't want anyone speculating about it. She's inviting people to question how she spends her money, and then she and her sheeple cry that it's not anyone's business.

If the "haters" on twitter has their info correct, this Australian Sheeple is a grifter as well. Got 9 kids, some of them foster children with disabilities, so she collects money for taking care of those kids. Money that should not be spent on going to a charity event that she obviously could not afford, just to sit at the table next to Kate's table. I think Kate barely acknowledged her or even had a decent conversation with her. Looks like Kate is looking for another "Beth", rich, sympathetic to her, Wealthy preferably married to a Hollywood producer.

Well, that makes perfect sense, then, if it's true, and helps to explain the bizarreness of being willing to fly across Australia on the chance that Kate might say a word to her, or hand over a "present". If she's as good at grifting as Katie Irene, then she didn't pay for the trip, somebody else (or a lot of somebody elses) did.

Added the koala pic.

I think this is the most classy and respectable Kate has looked in years. It's amazing what a little conservative black dress can do for your image.

I don't understand why all of the news articles and people who were there are completely ignoring some of the huge burning questions: How much did the event raise? What were the big ticket items? And of course how much did Kate's awkward lunch with 10 go for?

Why the silence?

No worries, Tweet-le.

Well, mumbear seems to have a higher learning curve than Kate.

If mumbear9 is as desperate for attention as Kate is, she'll go public again later, but there's a real lesson here. Blabbing publicly about your life is, well, public.

I am interested in the sociology of the kind of people who follow Kate.

I don't wonder nearly so much about people who spend their time away from their kids and money on things like gardening or an alternative medicine conference or Little People conference or technology conference.

None of those things I would do either, doesn't mean I don't understand it or why people would do it.

Isn't life a hoot? She's willing to spend thousands of dollars to physically get near to someone, and I try to avoid her!

"I can't help but wonder about a parent who apparently doesn't even worry about her eight kids aged 11 and under being half a world away for a week or so with a nanny."

====================

I can't understand it either, Dallas. I spent two nights away from my six-year-old (business trip or I wouldn't have gone) and it was horrible. I took two cell phones with me and was driving the sitter crazy with my calls. I kept thinking, what if my child got sick (she had a cough when I left), or if there was a car accident, or something happened on the playground at school. Granted, I'm a mama grizzly, but Kate has absolutely no warm, motherly instinct about her.

Regardless if they are young children or teenagers, we still worry about them when we're away. That's what good parents do. Nobody had to teach us to do this - it comes with the territory. Somehow Kate was absent when this instinct was passed out.

We call the cat sitter when we're away, just to make sure all is well. That's because we're actually interested in their welfare. If we were pimping them out for an income, we probably wouldn't bother.

She looks a whole lot happier having her picture taken holding that koala than she ever looks when she's with her kids.

I know nothing about mumbear9 except what I've read here. I just want to say that there are people who foster handicapped children and adults with good intentions. Yes, they receive a stipend, but often provide a better life than that person would otherwise have had.

Again, I know very little about mumbear9 and am not trying to start anything. Just remembering a line from "The Odd Couple"

When you assume, you make an ass out of u and me.

I think all good foster moms and all mommies in general deserve a nice treat now and again. It's just strange anyone would admire someone like Kate enough to fork over this amount of money on her. Fans are an interesting species worthy of study.

Absolutely, but nobody "assumed" that mumbear9 flew across Australia to meet Kate, nor were the other things mumbear9 said about the trip "assumptions". She may very well have a good heart, but her defense of Kate as a mother suggests that she doesn't have very good critical reasoning skills.

I responded to what mumbear9 herself wrote. It's an opinion, and hasn't made an ass out of anyone. It's OK for me to have an opinion, and OK for you to disagree. That doesn't make either one of us into an ass.

As far as I can tell, no one complained about mumbear9 or anyone else receiving a stipend for adopting children, or raising disabled kids. I didn't see any mention of these things at all.

Rhymes with Witch said...

I doubt it, this is what I was responding to (found above)

It appeared to be an asumption to me. Of course we are all entilted to our opinions.

To clarify - it appeared to be an assumption on the part of the haterz on twitter, not the person who posted it here, who was clear about the source.
