Kate's first blog at Couponcabin.com

"The money I save means my kids get more gifts and more gifts for them means I get more smiles and hugs on Christmas morning. And that, in itself, is the perfect gift for me!"

Kate has 2 ovens, and each oven can take 2 cookie sheets at a time. That's 4 dozen cookies baking at a time. Give 10 minutes to mix up a batch, 10 to glom some batter on 4 cookie sheets, 10 minutes to bake, that's 30 minutes for 4 dozen cookies. While they are baking, clean the bowl, mix up another batch. She would require 7-8 trips to the oven with this method, depending on how many cookies were no-bakes.

If she didn't stop to tweet, she could have churned out those cookies in roughly 3 hours.
Hardly sounds tweetworthy to me.

Marie: I find the time to workout three times a week (I'm working on a 5K) but I have only one child who is 17, so it's fairly easy to do that, even working full-time.

I cook dinner about five nights a week (because I love to cook), and I've been working on Thanksgiving for a couple of days. No way could I have stopped to bake 36 dozen cookies yesterday, that was two days before Turkey Day! I had other things to put together.

And speaking of, I have two pies and three other dishes to assemble today, so I'm outta here. Wishing all of you a nice Thanksgiving. I won't be washing dishes and storing leftovers well into the night Thursday like Kate says she does, because we have friends and family who pitch in!

Kate parenthetically thanked someone in her cookie tweet, so I'm assuming she had help.
A sous chef makes all the difference in the world so I would think it took a few hours, not all day. But you know, she's home. It's not like she's working it 9-5 and squeezing in baking when she can.
It's like she wants to rub other moms' noses in it, when most are working and most do not have help.
I don't get why moms think she's all that and a bag of chips.

I love to bake myself so I like fresh cookies cakes, pies what have you. I'm just not into the frozen stuff

Marie said...

So since she's baked all these cookies...what's she going to do in December? As when most people bake cookies for the holidays. No, don't tell me, that's when she's going to do her Easter Eggs?

I made cranberry sauce, an apple and a pumpkin pie today and it's still morning. I did laundry and took out the trash. Gee, what is Kate doing? Sleeping still? How can anyone sleep till noon? Pure laziness is what that is. My guess is she'll cover this with her "oh-so" busy schedule. How can she be busy if she isn't doing Thanksgiving? Not like she cleans anyting.

Re: Kate 400+ cookies baking madness; I do not agree with her method because freezing already baked cookies tend to make them soggy or super soft after thawing. Especially the kind that has fruit/jam in it. If the cookies has icing or cocount for topping, they're going to become oily--I can't describe it but the appearance changes afterwards. I've freezed cocount cake before and it just doesn't work for me. The cocount flakes gives off something like oil or moisture. I do not know what it is. So I prefer to freeze the raw cookie dough first if I had to make a certain amount for a party. You can spoon them out on the cookie sheet, freeze them so they will hold their shape until frozen solid then take them off the sheets and put them in a plastic box designed for the freezer until you're ready to bake them. They hold up so much better that way. Or I sometimes go for the frozen premade raw cookies that comes in a box. I don't remember the name brand though.

Also I wonder how many mixer bowls, spoons, cookie sheets, and counter space for cooling racks Kate really has because that's an entire day worth of work, if not two days to make and bake different types of cookies she claimed to make. I thinks she embellished her cookie story, all right.

Actually, my very favorite homemade cookies are ones that just came out of the freezer. I don't even try to defrost them. I like them better that way than room temp or even fresh from the oven. Weird, I know. Brownies work too.

I have a list of various lawyer friends in various other areas of law I refer people out to as the need arises, and I have not come across a private lawyer in the past 12 months who isn't billing $450 an hour with a $10,000 retainer. I imagine it's a little cheaper in PA but not by much. A lot of people these days are representing themselves.

=============

It's about $250 to $275 here per hour, depending if it's in the city or in a rural area. Retainers run average about $2,500, higher for felony charges, usually about $4,000.

Someone on Twitter should ask Kate what size turkey she has and how long it will cook and so on! I'll bet she really doesn't know 'cos she won't be cooking it.

+++++++++++++++

All she would have to do is look it up on the internet and respond. So many pounds per person, and the time it takes to cook it. I think that she could probably find that info so she wouldn't look clueless.

I agree! I've kept cookies as long as a year in the freezer (forgot about them!) and they were just as good as when they were put in there. No soggy cookies, no freezer burns. I'm going to try it this year with my Christmas cut-outs and sand tarts because I get hungry for them on cold nights in February.

Today's entry into the "nitpicking of Kate" comment archive:

Baking 36 dozen cookies is a big undertaking. However, I know plenty of people - my own mother and myself included - who have marathon baking days and bake this much. Even during the holidays. Actually, especially during the holidays. If you have already gone to the grocery store for the Thanksgiving fixins, and bought the baking ingredients at the same time, 2 days before Thanksgiving actually seems like a perfect time to spend the day baking. You then have the day between to not be in the kitchen before you are back at it.

Kate is likely not having visitors for hanksgiving - so she is just cooking for herself and the kids. For the first time in a long time, I am in a similar situation in that we won't have visitors, so it will be just my family of 6 for dinner tomorrow. I am feeling remarkably unstressed about it. I went to the grocery store. Probably will make some pies tonight. Get up and put the turkey in the oven early tomorrow. And then the rest is just a slightly-more-than-normal meal. I don't have to prepare the house more than any normal day. Yes, she made a big deal about the prep/cooking/cleanup on the coupon blog, but that was for "show" to emphasize how easy online shopping is. Reality is that this year, she probably doesn't have much more than the norm planned for tomorrow, so why bash her for choosing to bake yesterday?

Properly stored cookies will not be freezer burned after a few months. They will be fine for lunches.

Here's a thought, Kate. Let the kids purchase their lunches with the rest of their classmates, and you won't have to stress over baking a zillion cookies for their lunchboxes!
*****
So peer pressure should win out over a home-prepared lunch?
______________

I just don't get why she is being bashed for doing something as normal and nurturing and wholesome as baking cookies for her children's lunches. I don't see her tweeting about it as "bragging" or trying to point out what a supermom she is. I see it is mentioning "what she did today." Just as many, if not all, tweeters do. So she uses exclamation points and she may be exaggerating about the numbers. So what? What does this have to do with her abusing and exploiting her children? It shouldn't be more than a passing "wow, she's annoying" to anyone. Certainly not worth a screen-lashing of hundreds of blog posts.

And yes, I know, you can talk about whatever you want to. But so can I. And frankly, so can Kate.

Louie'sMom said...

I have a question about the cookies (and everything else Kate does that makes no sense). There are 365 days in a year. Why would anyone choose to make hundreds of cookies 2 days before Thanksgiving? Those days should be spent prepping for the Thanksgiving meal IMO. Kate is supposed to be this super-organized super-mom with all of these great ideas and suggestions for how to run a household, right? Wrong, as far as I'm concerned. I think she does everything ass backward which makes everything more difficult and stressful. I don't know if she does these things on purpose so that she can gain sympathy because she's so stressed/exhausted or if she just has so little common sense that she doesn't think things through beforehand and just does things spur of the moment. And then there's the always the chance that she is lying about the whole thing and she didn't bake even 1 freaking cookie yesterday. She's so FU in the head, who knows?

Points of View said...

Not Relevance, Kate gets bashed for things others would get a pass on because she has a well-deserved reputation for lying, exaggerating, and promoting herself as a "single" parent, when she is "single" in no sense.

The problem with behaving badly, especially when it's done publicly, aggressively, and over years, is that you're going to have to work three times as hard to overcome the bad rep. Kate isn't even trying.

Her tweets are tone-deaf, insensitive, and continue the pattern of building herself up as a paragon, even though the REALITY of her life is known to be far from admirable.

So she's stuck with these kinds of reactions. She did it to herself.

Many of your posts have made good points, and I welcome your input, as I'm sure others do, but I think you're really stretching things here.

Kate is bragging about "accomplishing" things most of us do all the time, and realize are just part of life. We don't expect that 1, people will be dying to know the mundane details, or 2, to be praised for what we do as parents or householders.

Since she has no credibility above and beyond any other parent in the areas of cooking, shopping, or maintaining a house (and some would say she has a lot less), a lot of us feel that it's ridiculous that she puts this information out as if she's some kind of expert.

That's not going to change unless she does.

Points of View -

But the thing is - the only reason I have ANY idea of what Kate is doing these days is because of this blog, which I admittedly actively type into my browser most days. The average person is paying absolutely zero attention to Kate, because one has to seek out the information by coming to a blog, her Twitter, her website, reading the gossip rags. In other words, she isn't hurting anyone by her career attempts, her running, or whether or not she has had plastic surgery. So that is why I continue to ask "why are you bashing her for these things." She is affecting the lives of very few people by her tweets - the few sheeple who are left who read her tweets and are impressed by them. Probably more of her fans are reading them just because they are interested in - not necessarily impressed by everything she does - what her family continues to be up to. Her blog and the coupon gig are reaching a few more people - but I cannot see that she is actually hurting *anyone* by what she is writing. It's not like someone will be harmed by using a 15% Children's Place coupon instead of 20%. Or browning their pork chops before putting them in the crock pot. Once again, there may a few people reading the blogs who are impressed, more who are just still interested in the family, but nobody being hurt by it. If she still has financial reserves to care for her children while she pursues these things, all the power to her to try them.

I see your points, and I did even before you pointed them out to me. But I still wonder why she *has* to prove herself to anyone. Why does anyone care? It seems to have become a truly hating situation for many posters here. Some are genuinely worried for the children, about her time away from them, the potential verbal abuse (although that is entirely speculation that many report as fact), her continued wish for them to be on television, her alienation of their father. But many of the same people hate on her appearance, her cooking skills, her writing skills, her upcoming half-marathon. It shouldn't matter one bit if she thinks she is the prettiest, the best cook, the best at grammar, the most dedicated runner. The only reason to post that she is ugly, can't cook to save her life, doesn't know how to train, can't write correctly, is to demonstrate your hatred of another human being.

############

Well, sure she is. She's hurting her children. She's keeping herself in the limelight ONLY by virtue of being a mother of 8 children, who are still appearing on her blog, and who are still the only reason she claims relevance in any way at all.

She's promoting herself as a super parent when her entire life - including her "career" attempts (traveling to Australia), running, plastic surgery, etc. are not only funded by her children, and stoked by violating their privacy, but also represent her consistent determination to stay as far away from the children as possible.

Lots of us here see that as "hurting someone", namely the kids, who deserve privacy they cannot have while their mother is self-promoting herself across the country and continents.

Lots of us think the children have earned a home life that doesn't involve being left with baby sitters while their mother pursues her interests apart from them, and stokes her ego in public forums.

Lots of us feel that Kate's willingness to neglect her children, and to keep them in the public eye, has everything to do with poor oversight of minors in the entertainment industry in Pennsylvania.

Naturally, then, a lot of people on this blog, and elsewhere, think that it's actually important to call this parent out on her behavior. The kids have no advocate except huge numbers of strangers who wish their lives were their own.

Are there genuine "haters" posting on this blog? Sure, but I suspect that most people who post here don't hate Kate at all. We don't know her, but we hate her behavior, and the way she continues to sell out her children, and their privacy, to feed her own ego.

Her behavior matters because she chooses to make it public, and because it clearly is detrimental to her children.

She's not a private mom, with a tiny little private blog and a small Twitter feed, posting about a private life. She's actively courting public attention, and putting her life out there intentionally.

What she gets back comes with the territory, especially when she is so obviously unconcerned about the effects of her behavior on her children.

Otherwise, you're right. What she does wouldn't matter. But there is no "otherwise" in this case.

To me what is so strange about Kate's twitter life is this. Are the things she says she does in day..why is it we never saw any of that on her reality show? She never baked cookies, trained for marathons, cooked big dinners every night etc. The funny things is had she actually done that on the show it probably would not have been cancelled. People wanted to see real life, not a travel show. Her greed for travel in the end actually ruined her show.

I am totally enjoying the respectful, intelligent, well written exchange of ideas between Points Of View and Not Sure What My Name Is. Ladies, (?) my hat is off to you both.

May I just add that most of us came here in the beginning or paid attention to this mess in the beginning because of the glaring emotional and verbal abuse of 8 little children. And the physical abuse was hinted at. It was unsettling that a cable TV network was making money off of this and outright disturbing that parents (and the mother to the extreme) seemed to delight in hiking up the abusive drama in order to achieve media accolades and glamorous attention.

And now... we know the emotional neglect and abuse hasnt stopped but we are powerless and we really ought to stop caring. But this Gosselin person is a one woman mental train wreck that is slowly sliding right off the rails and most of us here just cant stop watching. And saying "We told her so." Including me.

Em that's the great irony of this isn't it? Kate wanted the fame and fortune so she could do all these amazing things. But at the end of the day America really liked the show better when it was Kate pushing a giant cart in Sam's Club trying to budget for eight kids on a shoestring.

She got everything she wanted, but sacrificed what was good about the show to do it.

I agree with everyone in the last 10 or so posts in some way. I started out as a snarker on the TWOP forum, where there was a mixed crowd of fans and haters. That was almost four years ago. It took nearly four years for her show to die, taking her family's dignity with it and soiling the name "Gosselin".

I agree with a lot of what "Not sure..." says, and I will also admit I hate Khate. That said, I rarely comment on her anymore, I don't care enough to. I hate to even look at photos of her anymore, as I attempted to compare her did-she-get-a-facelift? pics. I do like this forum and the posters, but I hate keeping Khate's name out there. Like "Not Sure" said, the average person is over her, some have forgotten about her already. I guess there isn't much point to my post, except to say I'm exhausted with the drama.

Dwindle said...

Aeries - I couldnt agree more. Everytime I get bored or disgusted or exhausted by her middle school antics and I think "Why am I doing even noticing this freak of nature?" - well, then she hikes it up a notch and does something publicly harmful to her children and I am right back here again. Kids are emotionally and psychologically toyed with and tortured all the time by parents; there are indeed neglectful narcisstic mothers out there; there a lots of mentally ill folks who gleefully damage others in their wake; I cant do anything about this one, so I dont know why I am here. I really like the folks here, that is about all I can say.

And I will say it: yes, I am a Kate Gosselin hater. I hate her. I am proud of it. I hate her actions, I hate her sour attitude, I hate the mental games she plays with her little ones in order to show them she's the boss, I hate how disrespectful she is towards viewers and purchasers who have nickel dimed her way all these years. WE buy the products of her advertisers, she is living off of OUR money! And I hate how she C O N S T A N T L Y sneers at us. And I hate how she lies lies lies and then laughs about it. Freak.

Well, that wasnt very grateful of me, now was it? Sorry all. Back to my green bean casserole and my rising oatmeal bread in the bread machine. Cranberry relish is simmering and so are giblets. All is right on track!

Didn't click on the article, just read around the pic.

I believe Kate is practicing "transferance" where her kids are concerned. She, herself, thinks "more gifts and freebies are better", so she assumes that the more gifts she gives her kids the better they will like her. She does need help, and not in the form of things/stuff. It's deeper than that and much more serious. Something is just "off." I've believed that for years. My belief has just gotten stronger.

Some really interesting points by all an very well stated as to why most of us here do not like her. I dislike her for all the same reasons as listed here, but I also greatly dislike her for trashing the father of her children every single chance she gets. Maybe they do hate each other, don't even speak to each other, but the things she says about Jon is disgusting. Whether she likes it or not, at one time in her life he was her choice and plenty good enough to help her have 8 children. Therefore, he is their father for life and they will always love him. But it is so obvious she is trying to guilt them into turning against him and it is wrong, wrong, wrong to do that to young children. Why does she have this need to trash him on Twitter or on the talk shows when she gets a chance? The fans think the damage will be done when they are old enough to Google their names and they see what blogs like this have said about them. The twins are old enough now, don't kid yourself, they know a whole lot of crap about what is said on both sides. And the thing the fans fail to recognize is that their hatred of their father is as vile as they claim what we say about their mother is -- even though our opinions are based on behaviors of Kate we have seen with our own eyes. These people trash Jon's girlfriend and blame her for everything you can think of even though she is never in the spotlight. I really don't get it. I just don't. The one thing that seems clear to me is that Kate is one of the most hated people out there and she has no desire to change that image. And she IS a train wreck.

I bet she doesn't even take the time to tell her flying sheep "Happy Thanksgiving". She will just disappear until it's over, and then gloat about everything she made and how SHE had a great T-giving.

She's just not one to be first to reach out and wish good things for others.

I'm sure the sheep will trip over their hooves to tell her HTG and then she may reciprocate individually, but she won't take the time to send out a general tweet to all. It's not her style.

( IF she does happen to send out a Happy TG tweet to all, included will be how hard she had to work and how much her kids loved her food and thanked her for it. She will have to make it all about her somehow.)

My issues with Kate is the same as with many other families that have quints or sextuplets. They think that they are entitled to have all sorts of freebies just because they decided against reduction. They endangered their health and the health of their babies.

There was a time when having high order multiples was amazing. The Dionne quintuplets are by far the most amazing in my mind because they were naturally conceived and all identical. The Dilly quintuplets and McCaughey were the first surviving sets and people donated stuff to them because of this. The parents dont keep the kids in the limelight and are able to raise all of their children on their modest income. I was really annoyed to see that the McGhees were upset because they did not get all the freebies that other parents got. They claimed that it was racial discrimination. I think that by this time, we had all grown tired of these parents expecting handouts just because they had 5+ children. The parents need to be prepared to care for the children on their own. No one forced them to have all of those children. Kate is the prime example of this. She still thinks that she should be handed everything for the rest of her life because she has 8 healthy children.

Having 8 children is not amazing or unique. There are many families with more children. The Hayes had 10 children and one of them is special needs. The think that made them unique was the fact that they for most part lived off of the fathers income. The family was fun to watch on T.V because of their grounded personalities. The parents did not take their stress out on their children or each other. I loved the one interview where the parents started to laugh because they realized that there were sexual innuendos in their conversation.

Kate is unemployed said...

Kate's whole plan to have high order multiples just astounds me. That she would think accepting handouts is a good plan. And that the notoriety would be worth the absolute chaos and hardship so many kids would entail. Never did she think about the kids' well-being. Never did she consider that people would tire of her hand being held out. Never did she think that SHE should support her own kids. It's just galling.

I know absolutely nothing about plastic surgery, but is it possible to widen a face and jaw? If you look at the collection of photos, her face is clearly broader (MUCH wider) in the coupon cabin promo photo. If she had this done, what would be the reason? She has a long, narrow face, but why would anyone want to make it wider?

My bet is on it being photoshopped, or a re-touch or something, similar to the People cover magazine. That is not to say that she didn't have botox at some point, but I seriously doubt if she had any type of major surgery on her face.

Question for any psychologists who might be lurking here. I was reading on twitter last night, and boy, they really go at each other, don't they, and not harmless jabs. This is really nasty, vile stuff, potty mouths, demeaning, defamation, bullying, etc. Why would mature, adult women, many of whom are mothers, and one or two males, supposedly professional people, carry on like this? Can anyone venture a guess? Is this addictive? Is it nightly entertainment? What do they get out of it? What kind of message does this send to their children - that it's okay to hide behind an alias on the internet and just attack others to the point of being abusive? I don't understand it.

During his monologue Jay Leno was talking about the new Twilight movie; Bella becomes pregnant with a baby who is half vampire and marked for death by his vampire family and her werewolf friends.

Jay said, “I feel sorry for the kid … the vampires are trying to kill her … the werewolfs are trying to kill her … today the kid said, ‘Hey it is still better than being one of Kate Gosselin’s kids.“

it seems to me that if your only schitck is being the super mom of 8 and people feel sorry for your kids, something's wrong with your brand, so to speak.

OUCH !

And I bet stupid Kate just laughed and was flattered she was mentioned and got 10 seconds of attention, even if it was negative.

I asked (told) my daughter to do her chores today instead of waiting until Saturday, and she huffed at me. I said, "What is worse...having me or Kate Gosselin for a mom?" Needless to say, she changed her attitude real fast.

Kate Gosselin = the epitomy of what NOT to be!

Speaking of cold food, does anyone here eat cold homemade baked beans with bacon, and cold, burned hot dogs that were made on the grill? I actually like them better cold than hot.

I firmly believe she has caused other families to think twice about doing a reality show. How many she has actually influenced we'll never know. But if there is some good to come out of this it's other families getting an intimate look at how out of control a reality show can get.

Why would mature, adult women, many of whom are mothers, and one or two males, supposedly professional people, carry on like this? Can anyone venture a guess?
********
The reasons are as individual as the people. Something is tapping into an issue the person cares about - it touches a nerve. A more general answer has to do with feeling power - to right a perceived wrong, to prove someone else wrong. I realize this is vague, but there is no easy answer. Just my opinion.........

Absolutely and cold pizza!!!! (worthy of the !!!) I love my hotdogs burnt black on the grill. If they are golden brown they may as well be boiled. (I like my onions slightly burnt when 'sauted' too.

Look at the photos in Australia, and the one of her holding the koala. Coupon photo - fat face. Australia koala photo - long, narrow face.
I wouldn't think that fat injected into the face, or plastic surgery, disappears in just a few days.
Conclusion: CC pix, photo shopped.

Ok people a little OT here: just tried a spinach stuffing balls(don't laugh) I changed the recipe a lot, from the Stove top recipe book, so here goes: this is what I used:

1 pk of Stove Top stuffing Turkey or use: chicken or pork or your own bread.
1 pk of frozen chopped spinach, nuke in micro, squeeze out water,(becareful it might be hot)chop into small pieces.
1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese
1 medium onion, finely chopped
4 lg snow cap mushrooms, chopped small
1/2 cup of shredded carrots, chop them smaller
1/4 cup of chopped parsley or use a sissor to cut
2 stalks of celery chopped into small pieces
5 slices of maple bacon cut into small pieces
1/2 cup of turkey broth(use rest for a soup)
2 eggs
1 small red/green or yellow bell pepper chopped into small pieces
water as needed
1 cookie sheet or loaf pan
cooking spray (butter)
pre-heat oven to 400 f

mix into a lg bowl the dryed stuffing mix or your own toasted bread, and parmesan cheese.

In a lg fry pan, sprayed with cooking spray, cook the bacon until done, then add: onions, carrots, celery, peppers, mushrooms, parsley and cook till onions are transparent like, then add turkey broth, cover and cook for about 3 mins, then add spinach and cover and cook for 5 min. add water if needed.
Then mix in bowl with stuffing and cheese, add water if needed. Then add eggs and mix. ( I do not recommend tasting after adding eggs they are raw)
On cookie sheet (or if you use loaf pan)spray with cooking spray. You can make balls any size(great for party food)
put in pre-heated 400 degree oven, cook for 20 mins or until lightly brown(longer for loaf) then serve or you can freeze theses for up till 3 months(got that from original recipe, which had only 4 things in it. I added more, it's almost a meal it self. Enjoy!
It really tastes good.

On another note don't buy the Stove top apple stuffing, it was BAD!, Smelled up my house, terrible smell, had to burn some candles to get the smell out and tasted terrible, the apples made it terrible.

Have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

There was an article in the Dispatch -- which emphasized that the McGhees did not contact them for publicity -- which indicated that little had been donated to them, but neither parent expressed disappointment or discontent). In addition -- about 6 months after their babies were born, one of the YMCAs in Columbus held a drive to collect used baby equipment, etc. for families in need. The McGhees showed up with packs of diapers, outgrown clothing and equipment and other baby items for the drive. They indicated that they were so grateful for all the community support they'd received and wanted to give back.

However, I must say that I read here regularly because I am so concerned about the children's welfare.

Does anyone remember the comment Kate made in the limo to Steve in the episode that was "all about Kate"? She was blubbering about how people hated her...yada yada.

Then she said something like, "Every mother's worst fear is that she is a horrible mother". I was so astounded by that! That is the FARTHEST thing from my worst fear as a mother. That was when I knew that this narcissist has compartmentalized and hidden away the truth that she knows about herself--and it scares her. She knows she's abusive, pure and simple.

Now that the cameras have stopped rolling, she has no buffers anymore. It's just her, Steve (some of the time), and the household help. This is why she wants to be traveling every other week. She knows if she doesn't, she's going to lose control. She's already slipping badly. I have seen enough of that show to know the children fear her.

I don't celebrate Thanksgiving because it's a family day and I don't have any family. No, we are not estranged, I'm the only one within several thousand miles. I have been invited to other people's family meals, but that just seems wrong.
So, as I have the past many years, I will spend the day with memories, giving thanks for all God has done, and the wonders of the land we live in. There is so very much that deserves gratitude.

I am not sad. I am really quite the opposite.
This is a day of recalling blessings, so I'm going to be very, very busy.

I shall not forget to give thanks for this blog that I believe has been instrumental in shining floodlights into the dark corners of reality tv.
It's also been a Volkswagen-full of monkeys worth of fun.

Share peace with one another around your tables, and be thankful. I know I am.

I haven't caught up on all the posts, been busy making stuffing, pealing potatoes, making cranberry sauce, prepping the onions for creamed onions (my favorite) brining the turkey, ironing the table cloth and getting the china and crystal out, mom's sterling which was used at Easter so thank goodness doesn't need polishing LOL. Yesterday was pie day and something new, a brownie on the bottom pumpkin cheese cake bars that I saw on the Today Show. I don't think it really matters if you have 6 peoople for 20 people, it's just about the same amount of work.

I usually make a ton of Christmas cookies, the weekend before Christmas, depending on when it falls. I have never frozen any, just have lots of airtight containers and keep them, (hide them) in the coldest room in the house.. Usually Friday is dough making following buy lots of baking on Saturday/Sunday. Most of the darn cookies require forming into balls so very time consuming. Would be thrilled to have 2 ovens. Best gift I ever got was my kitchenaid mixer when my son was a baby 20+ years ago. I told my hubby, if he wanted cookies, it needed one. That way while the butter/sugar is creaming, I'm measuring flour, etc. Sort of assembly line.

Oh and to top it off, hubby comes home yesterday to say, his contract engineering job ended today. Can anyone say depressing much and too much wine last night? Happy holidays and so much fun now to plan a wedding for my daughter in June to her Marine.

Anyway, pity party over, Happy Thanksgiving everyone and Admin - thanks for adding the numbering.

anonymous this time only -- I don't have any family left, either, but I still celebrate Thanksgiving. Tomorrow I'll be singing with the choir for Mass, then helping to serve Thanksgiving dinner at a local shelter. Some friends and I are getting together later in the day to eat and celebrate. Usually we potluck it, but we're going to Ryans for dinner this year.

I don't hate Kate. I despise the way she treats others, especially her children and Jon, and I think she's incredibly foolish, vain and shallow. I feel sorry for her, though. When the crash comes, and it is coming soon, she's not going to have the resources -- mental, emotional, or financial -- to deal with it. Unfortunately, the ones who will suffer the most will be those 8 children.

Admin -- thanks for adding the numbers. It makes finding one's place so much easier.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Yes, she knows. This is why I think that she is so concerned with her physical appearance). She's obsessed with her face and her weight because it's the one thing that she can control. She knows, deep inside, that she's abusive and something is eating away at her...something locked way inside. She can't (or won't) do anything about it because she needs professional intervention. It may be something that happened in childhood - who knows. The bottom line, though, is while she cannot do anything to get rid of the demons within, and insecurity as a mom, she can change her face, weight, and hair, boobs, or whatever the spirit moves her to do.

Russian Tea Cakes

1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup softened butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
additional powdered sugar for rolling

*toast nuts 5-7 minutes over medium low heat
*cream together butter and sugar
*beat in vanilla, flour and nuts
*shape into 1 inch balls (this is when I use my mini ice cream scoop)
*set 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet and chill 10 minutes
*bake 15 minutes, 350 degrees
*cool 10 minutes and roll in extra powdered sugar (I usually put them in a baggie and do it shake 'n' bake style)

You can use pecans if you prefer, but I never have.
You don't want them to brown much at all, so keep an eye on them!
If you are going to freeze them don't roll them in sugar until you thaw them.

I just want to take a moment to share some Thanksgiving wishes for everyone.

May your turkey roast (or your salmon grill) to perfection; your stuffing be moist and plentiful; your veggies be not bitter or mushy; and your baked goods rise to the occasion.

May you take a picture in your mind of children laughing together at the kids' table, sticking olives on their fingertips, lining up peas in rows pierced on the tines of a fork, or sneaking food to the dog patiently waiting for any morsel.

May you look around the room and see and appreciate the special connections you have forged in life.

May you find joy, gratitude and peace in the day, whether in the company of friends and family, or in quiet, calming solitude.

May you let your troubles diminish for a time, and feel sympathy for those even less fortunate.

May you understand that none of us will ever get out of this world alive, so how we treat people while we are here, is how we will always be remembered.

May you and your loved ones have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

I wish you peace.

Bibby said...

That old saying, "You can hate somebody you don't know" does NOT apply to people on reality shows. Especially a reality show on air for...what...almost 6 years and 150 plus episodes?

Those people are playing THEMSELVES, not a character. They are as they would be if they were standing right in your living room.

It's not like Robert Reed ( who was gay and had a bad temper ) who played the character Mike Brady ( straight, easy going, sugar sweet ). Now THOSE people who assume a character on tv, you can say you don't know them.

But somebody who has filmed 150 episodes as herself on a REALITY show, showed up on every daytime and nightime talk show as herself, rants on Twitter as herself, and has done 473 People Magazine articles as herself, then yes, we DO know her just as much as we would know someone we work with. I know more about her than I do the people who live across the street! And I know more about her kids than I do my friends' kids ( because SHE put it out there )!

So that bull "You don't know her" or Kate's "If they only knew me..." doesn't fly. We know all we need to know to form very valid opinions based on what SHE allowed the cameras to capture.

Would she be whining "If they only really knew me" if she were loved instead of reviled? Once you make the decision to go on tv and show the world your true self, you cannot pick and choose how people are to perceive you. If you can't handle the negative, then get off tv.

Seriously. Who thinks they can really go on a reality show and act the way she has, yell, belittle, have temper tantrums, constantly act stressed out, and just in a pissy mood 99% of the time...and really think the majority of people would love that and think she's great? The video clip from Cabin Coupon was photoshopped or heavily made-up. Look at Kate's chest in this post. We know from numerous other photos that her chest is fully covered with brown spots. But in this video clip, she is nearly void of them. This clip doesn't reflect what her chest normally looks like. So if her chest is totally different than reality than so is her face.

Another comment that I forgot to make was this above video clip is 100% proof that Kate did NOT have a face lift. Look at how loose her neck skin is in the middle of her neck. No way if that lifted. Now I believe that she probably had botox and fillers between her eyes for those deep eleven lines that she has. And maybe even filler in her face but no way did she have a facelift.

And I notices Kate was using an Apple computer. I have never used one and would have difficulty too the first time I sat down to operate one. But that said she is a lying witch about everything in her life.

prairiemary, is that all to that recipe? It sounds good to me! I haven't heard of it, it must be a Sask thing. I will ask my nephew (he's from Melville) about it, we usually have Xmas at his house and his mom is a super cook. Her perogies are to do for!
Good god I am hungry, but off to work I go. :)

I think CouponCabin (or whomever their marketing agency is) is pretty internet savvy when it comes to SEM and SEO (search engine marketing/optimization). I have heard of CC before and have even used some of their coupons, because in most of my searches for coupons online, CC will likely be one of the top results.

So it was probably a good idea for them to have Kate on board. It doesn't matter what Kate writes--I don't think that's the point. The fact is that as soon as Kate was signed on to be a featured blogger, Coupon Cabin was mentioned in countless tabloids, blogs, entertainment sites. More of the internet has been peppered with their name and their link than probably ever before, and right before the big shopping season too.

More people know about Coupon Cabin now. Even those who detest Kate have probably clicked on the link to CC or did a search on them. Or even those who have neutral feelings about Kate or have no idea who is might have just been curious about the coupon site about reading about it in US Magazine.

All that mattered was that it got people in through the door. Will your hatred for Kate stop you from using one of their coupons? I doubt it. I think Coupon Cabin know what they're doing.

One of her first tasks at Coupon Cabin will be to provide a link for the coupons she used to get all that plastic surgery. Probably used a B0G0 coupon for the implants.

Not sure if someone posted this already, but had to chuckle at this Washington Post article about her...

And, I'm also in the trainer camp. She would never do something like this unless she had some help. Would never admit it, of course, because she's still trying to look like "persevering parental example Kate".

This is only for publicity for her; if she was serious about marathons, she would participate in one closer to home. This is a free trip (definitely), free stuff, and what she thinks is free positive publicity. As someone mentioned earlier, she's trying another angle for herself to see if it flies with the public.
