I am guessing that Kate got a report from the nanny about the kids' behavior and that was the sum total of what she wanted to know about their week. I'm with you, Admin, I can't picture her sitting down with the children and asking to hear about their week.

Speaking personally, I loved coming home and telling my mom about my day. I didn't tell her everything, of course, but I liked telling her I kicked a home run during recess, or we read a funny story during reading time, or my friend was home sick with a cold, I lost my homework on the bus, or something about the day. When I got home from my daily swimming practice, I'd want to give her some idea how it went.

Why? Because she cared, and I was glad she did. What good did it do? It opened up lines of communication between my mother and me that lasted to the end of her life. I could TALK to my mom even when I became an adult with my own personal life. She laid the groundwork for that by showing an interest in my daily life.

That said? When I wanted them to get a break from singing for their supper out on the road all the time, I didn't mean that KATE should be able to have all the fun by herself.
------------------------

Well, that's just the sad point here. Khate FINALLY goes on a trip without the TLC camera crew but the kids don't go! Think of what their trip to Australia was like, with a strict filming schedule, and a TLC crew dragging them all over for the shots. It was WORK. But, now Khate goes on a vacation to Australia and the kids don't get to go. They don't even know what it's like to go on a real vacation (or even a day at Hershey Park) without having to WORK, have it all scripted, directed, and filmed.

Kate finally got what she wanted. Now she gets all the fun and trips, but doesn't have to bother with the kids. Her evil plan has come to its fruition. The kids were but a tool, a stepping stone. Once used to accomplish a purpose, like all victims of narcissists they were discarded.

Nobody Likes a Narcissist (NLAN) said...

Well, hopefully, she won't be able to grift any more free trips. Although, I bet she's already pestered Terri Irwin about going next year. You know how it is with her - TLC takes them somewhere like NC for a beach vacation and Khate claims it's a family tradition now. Yeah, right, ONLY if someone else is paying for it!

You know, Thanksgiving is coming up soon and in the face of what a greedy person kart is, I'd like to look to all the things I am glad of in my life.

Perhaps if she reads this she'll have a wee tiny little twinge of guilt for all the abuse she's heaped upon her kids...... and maybe she'll see the light.

I'm thankful that I have a good husband, a peaceful and happy blind dachshund who loves us, a nice "mediocre" home, our good health and a son and daughter-in-law whom we cherish and they reciprocate. Life is good.

I'd love to hear about what other posters here are thankful for...

Warmth,

SARDS - sudden acquired retinal deterioration syndrome.

Blindness happened over a 4 week period. No treatment, no cure. The retina just stops working. Some thought it is autoimmune disorder, maybe caused by Cushings disease. There is no pain with SARDS.

She is eight, we've had her for 4 years. She knows our house and is getting around by using her memory maps and scent maps. We accomodate by not moving any furniture, keeping the floor clear of stuff she can run into...

Further accomodations include moving a fullsize mattress to the family room floor so these old bones can lie down with her for snuggles and tummy rubs (our house won't make the cover of Architectural Digest), two of us taking her for walks in the woods so she has one person's footsteps to follow, afternoons on a quilt in the middle of the back yard so she can wander safely and smell the scents on the breezes...

Honestly, this has been really hard on DH, Rox is his baby.

We've actually delayed our move to dream retirement home in Colorado until she is no longer with us. It would be too hard on her to move her now.

Life throws curves at times, and it always makes things a little easier if you can go with the flow.

We rescued her 4 years ago and it's a lifetime committment. We are honored to have her here with us, she brings such joy.

As for deaf dogs and sign language, I've seen it in action, and it does work! We had a neighbor with a deaf boxer. Boxer was white.

Our son has a white cat who is deaf also.... I gotta tell you - LOL - cats "don't do sign language!"

Good luck with your dog, I'm sure you'll be very successful. She's so lucky to have you!

Here's TLC's newest project. Apparently they've never heard of Airline which was essentially the same show. Hopefully they'll stay out of filming kids in the restrooms.

CNN) -- You probably won't see any "Pan Am" glamour in the newest television program focusing on an airline, but you can still expect plenty of drama.
TLC has ordered a new reality series that will take viewers behind the scenes at Southwest Airlines.
Production begins this weekend at Baltimore Washington International Airport and Denver International Airport, just in time for the holiday travel rush.

It's not middle school. It's the dialect of the area. I posted here earlier that it's really common here. I catch myself doing it occasionally, but for the most part, I was able to lose it, along with much of the Pennsylvania Dutch accent. There's a discussion about it on the Red Cross thread.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Exactly what all did Kate do anyway that would be all that exciting to kids?

She fed a croc at a zoo. Kids would be interested in that.

Other than that? She spoke at a gala dinner, yawwwwn. She was at an auction, yawn! She had lunch, allegedly, with some obsessed sheeple, double yawn. She did Steve, yawwwwwwwn.

Permanent Name said...

LOL - can we assume kart was thankful to have all that private time with purseboy?

LOL

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I agree with In the Neighborhood it IS the dialect. I had several friends who spoke like that. At first I was taken aback by it, then endeared.

But I also know a lot of people that have tried to lose it. Some accents are more attractive than others and that one does tend to sound like middle school. It's okay my accent is made fun of all the time people tell me I sound like a Canadian. Which I consider a compliment! But I have tried to lose it since it's sort of uncomfortable to know people are always thinking something about my accent. If Kate is serious about being in show business, she should work on adopting a more generic accent.

A&E did "Airline" back in 2004. The "head" SW guy was Mike something or the other. I can't remember the woman's name who was also in charge. It really wasn't a bad show. In fact, quite interesting, if I recall. BWI is my airport of choice. I hope I don't run into them there.

Permanent Name said...

I liked that Airline show back when it was on. I was always flabbergasted when folks thought they had a right to get sh*tfaced drunk and still fly. They always were so offended when the gate agents insisted they had to catch a later flight....

Thankfully, I never saw anything like that when I flew for work.

I thought the airline folks went over and beyond to help when they could.

I'll watch the new show at least at first to see how it goes

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

In the Neighborhood no if you run into them you can ask the crew if they've been background checked since airports usually are full of kids.

Airline WAS a good show, actually, I thought it was one of the better reality shows out there. But it got bad reviews and I was disappointed it was cancelled. I don't mind reality shows that play more like documentaries. There's a difference. It was a very interesting look behind the scenes you just would never know otherwise. I guess a lot of viewers don't want interesting. The show didn't last.

Of course it had its famewhores like any reality show. Half of the Southwest employees on that hsow had web sites trying to get other acting gigs. What the heck.

In the Neighborhood, no doubt it IS a local dialect, but she has ramped it up as of late. I looked at the gaggiest video I could find and she doesn't really do it, nor did she do it on couch interviews. She's in her glory here, talking as many many flashes go off, but note the leg - it seems to disagree with her. When she waxes the most poetic, that's when the leg seems most spastic and bouncy. Anyway, I have no doubt the uplift is a regional thing (we have our own, believe me), but she seems to think it's cutesy or endearing and mixes it up with a tilted head and sideways glance quite often. It ain't cute or endearing or anything but dumb. However, the ums and 'to be honest' stuff is ever present:

I wonder how Kate will fair, eventually, if this isn't a romantic involvement. When she has to let Steve go because she A) can't afford it, or B) He quits for lack of payment.

Oh, how in the world will Kate survive without her much needed bodyguard in rural PA? How will she be able to walk through an airport unescorted? Go to work? How will she drop the kids off at the bus and pick them up without having paps "follow her every move?" The horror! Kate will be: Just. Like. Everyone. ELSE! Oh my word! What will she do? *Knees buckling*

Kidding aside, I think she will either fold into her own reality that she is still a star and just as important because she had 8 kids or, learn to pick up the pieces of her broken former self and move on. Maybe.

Aren't there posters here who have a lot of kids? You all manage don't you?

Kate could manage, she just chooses not to. Like a kid I knew in school, his mom used to send him door to door with a note asking someone to feed him. Why? Because she was too busy with her many string of boyfriends, so into herself to care about needs of even ONE child. I can't imagine Kate's neglect of 8. Kid was happy getting a pair of shoes for Christmas...what will the Gosselin kids get? Toys and clothing yes, but will they learn to appreciate it?

barbee said...

WHY is everything kate does 'amazing'?
kate ending sentences with a question sound may well be regional, but it is for her an affectation in my opinion. I know other people with her Narcissistic (it's late and can't spell) Affliction and they do it for effect. YOUNG teenagers also do it.
Admin runs a wonderful blog here, it's always more fun to do things with a group of friends.

They did help some people who really needed help though, and that was heartwarming.

I know. She seems to do it more in interviews when she's nervous and someone is asking questions. I noticed that, too. It's almost like it's a question in answer to a question because she's doubting that anyone believes her. Between the ums and the likes, she's really painful to listen to.

PJ's momma said...

Oh my gosh, this is the video I should have posted above! What a witch! (The captions are priceless!) But listen, and you don't even have to do it closely - she doesn't make a single sentence into a question. She's doing it now because she thinks it's attractive for some reason.

Oh, there was another one - sad - can't remember all the details... something like a family put their grandmother on a flight and no one met her at the destination airport. She was in a wheelchair and confused and didn't know where she was supposed to go, or how to contact her family......

The airline employees worked really hard to find her family and took good care of her until they could put her on a flight to her family.

I can't imagine kart ever ever ever thinking to be patient and helpful like that.

barbee said...

whoopsie, forgot what I really wanted to write. It is logical that not all of the kids would feel the need to go on every trip kate takes but having been raised with a sense of entitlement they might feel slighted that they weren't taken. And especially feel this would be true of Mady who has exhibited a slightly jealous side (re: multiple parties for the tups) and she is, after all, the one who is so into animals and wants to be a veterinarian (at least when she doesn't want to be in the entertainment field) at least in her mother figure's eyes.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Yes Yolanda wanted to break into show business it was a little disappointed I wanted to believe she was really just in the airline industry because it was her passion and she wanted to share it. It's a shame actually she wanted show business--because she was a darn good Southwest employee.

I remember one time there was a passenger that people were complaining smelled. She was so kind and compassionate to them. She helpfully came up with some fresh clothes and encouraged them to change so she could get them on their way. And they blurred the face as I recall. If you're going to do a story about how someone stinks, at least give them the dignity of a face blur.

Responding to my own comment here. You know this is why I liked Jon and Kate at first? It played more like a documentary. A REAL look at how a family does it. It quickly morphed into something else, something quite sinister in the end.

But I LIKED when it was more of a day in the life kind of thing.

That old Peter Principle - keep moving up out of jobs you're good at until you reach a level (show business) where you fail.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Yes Barbee I agree. And I think the kids probably have mixed emotions. On the one hand I'm sure some if not all of them were tired of all the traveling and working, and wanted to just be at school with their friends. On the other hand there ARE some parts of the trips that were fun I'm sure. Certainly the koalas were fun.

And there's mommy, having all the fun without any of the negatives like being away from school friends, missing school, Daddy, etc. There must be some jealousy.

At the end of the day this whole thing has to be downright confusing for the kids.

Warmth of the Sun, I'm sorry about your dog's hearing loss. When I took my puppy to training, every command was taught verbally and with a hand gesture. So even though our dog hears fine, we can communicate with him in total silence. The trainer said it was in case the dog lost hearing and I remember thinking,'what are the odds?' Who knew? These dogs are so smart. It's the people who need the training :)

Good luck to everyone with all your crosses to bear. None of us escapes unscathed, so be nice to the person who forgot to turn on their turn signal, or took too long when the light changed to green. They may have just gotten the worst news of their lives. The day my mom died I was driving and my world came crashing down, and some guy was offended that I forgot to turn on my left blinker. He laid on his horn like a madman. He was inconvenienced literally for 3 seconds. I always remember that when I feel the aggravation rising while driving.

Then again, maybe Steevo has become her manager? Maybe that is why they travel together? He could be in this thing to make money as a manager. When the money is gone, if he can't get her new "career" off the ground (so far, not so good) then he'll hit the road.

Interspersing "like" into conversation is more of the same thing.

If we were to listen to Kate's early couch interviews, I don't think we'd hear that upturned inflection. She dropped her tone at the end of sentences, unless, of course, she was asking a question or being snippy with Jon. If anyone wants to slog through any early tapes I think you'd see that it's a recent thing with Kate.

IIRC, when the hair went blonder, the body got thinner, the nails were Frenched, the clothes got shorter and lower, the shoes got taller, the closing inflections went up.

I have no doubt you were SuperCool. Not a doubt in the world. You still are, from what I can tell. Voice unheard, you're cool in my book.

A woman I've known for many years, who is in her 60's now, heard the "upswing" inflection from teaching college and high school students in the Midwest, in Arizona and in Colorado. She picked up that inflection, and I have to say it drove me nuts to hear her do it all of a sudden. She's from Oklahoma, is not PA Dutch, never talked that way before, but there it was, coming out of her mouth every time she spoke. I had never heard it in America before. When I asked her about it, she said she thought it sounded "neat".

I will say it is part of the lyrical way that First Nations of Canada speak. I have nephews and nieces who are Metis in Saskatchewan, and they almost always end in a question sound.

2 x 2 = 4

So, when Kate tweets "Hw mny X do i haf 2 tell them its sndwch, frut, crnchy thng, desrt", you know someone ate their lunch out of order and Kate's tired of it.

For whoever had the blind dog (I'm sorry I can't recall who it was it's 5am here). Here is another neat trick for helping them navigate the house.

You can use scented oils (lavender, lemon, vanilla, almond etc) and put that on edges of furniture, steps, food/water bowls, beds etc. Use a different oil for different types of objects and they will be able to eventually tell what kind of object it is and where it's placed.

This is really helpful if you do want to change your furniture or get a new piece of furniture or move their crate etc.

If you do move furniture, they will get used to it and change their cognitive map. You do need to introduce the change to them, by taking them to the changed area and "showing" it to them and (hopefully) you have used the oil long enough that they know the scent is a furniture scent so they know "oh ok it's over here now."

Blind dogs can lead pretty full lives. Dogs are really amazing and they acclimate to both blindness and deafness very well.

There is a really excellent article from Whole Dog Journal in the April 2004 issue that talks about blind dogs that I highly recommend for anyone that has a blind dog.

I think @r3boz is a fan, but one who's endured infidelity and is uncomfortable with Kate and Steve's coziness. Milo is going to bat for Kate as expected, but notice all the "IFs" she writes. Doubt? (I combined two of Milo's tweets that were in two parts.)

By the way, what type of male "confidante" travels alone on an extended vacation without his wife? A business manager or bodyguard might do that. Not a confidante.

Ugghh..I tried to watch that video of her on Larry King in the link above. The differences - she is thinking about tomorrow - he is making bad choices. The pregnant pauses strategically placed. Why doesn't someone just come out and say, do those supposedly bad choices that Jon is making have anything to do with him now wanting his kids' sad little lives filmed for TV anymore, particularly since their mother ripped their family apart? I couldn't finish - she is that boring and that predictable. I knew what she was going to say and that she would fit the question to what she wanted to get out. Which is I am good mom love my kids doing it all for them exhausting, can't date, kids miss the film crew Jon is a bad dad. Send money --- blah blah blah. Larry King should not have been interviewing her in the first. I doubt he watches the show to see what a fake she is.

I find it strange that the "bodyguard" has a shirt from the zoo with his name on it just like Kate's! That had to be planned and he was considered part of the show. Most bodyguards wear suits and are on the ready all the time. Even managers don't take part in the things that their clients are involved in. I've never seen it. They tend to stay in the background. Very odd indeed. I'm sure the truth will come out soon. She better start running her 18 miles again soon. Her marathon is coming up and she has not run at all or she would have twittered about it. She's going to Vegas for the gifting I'm sure. And to flaunt her bod. Wonder if she thanked the kids for her trip?? Just my opinion!!!

Regarding the tweets, I think some sheeple wives are uncomfortable with the Kate/Steve relationship. Common sense and gut feelings cannot be ignored. Now that TLC is out of the picture, they are questioning his sticking around like we are. The women who defend the relationship are ignorant about human nature.

BTW, my husband has been faithful, but I have been around marriages not the case. Believe me, infidelity can be kept a secret for years. Usually the partners get overconfident, sloppy and get discovered.

It will all come out, I'm sure. Think about John Edwards. Like I said before, it's been kept quiet to not make her look like a homewrecker. What wife/mother wants THAT as a role model?

Includes a pic of Kate holding a koala.

BEWARE of exclamation marks.

Dear Honey…

November 18, 2011

Dear Honey -
I remember when we first met you! You were a tiny baby koala in a soft fabric pouch. A kind Australia Zoo worker held you close to her, keeping you warm while your mommy lay on the operating table having surgery on her injuries caused by a car who had hit her. Amazingly, Honey, you survived without any injuries because your mommy’s pouch kept you safe!

I was completely overwhelmed with love and awe as I saw you for the first time – well, I saw the pouch first, but still I was in love! I asked to hold you inside that pastel colored fabric pouch and fell even more in love when we were able to peek inside to see YOU for the first time! I remember Alexis’ screams of delight as we watched you crawl back inside your mommy’s warm pouch after her surgery! We watched your white spotted “hiney” wriggle into your mommy’s pouch and melted when you paused to gaze directly into our eyes as you did so! It was truly the sweetest thing I had ever witnessed and judging by Alexis’ high pitched squeal, she agreed!

We received the honor of naming you, baby Honey, and it was an easy pick because you were truly as sweet as Honey! We also joked that day that you were my 9th child! I gladly accepted the honor! Over the ten months that followed, Terri Irwin faithfully provided pictures and updates on your growth! We were so grateful to her and always looked forward to seeing you and hearing about your progress! And then the day came – last week when I returned to the Australia Zoo to take part in all of the Steve Irwin Day events. I visited the Wildlife Hospital to see my girl just prior to her release back into the wild!

I was able to hold you and snuggle you while you were groggy from the anesthesia that was given to you so that the doctor could perform your final check up before release! I cannot describe the joy I felt in those moments while I snuggled you so closely and snapped many photos to document this very unique and special moment! You were like a real life stuffed animal and were so perfect in every way!

I realized again in that moment how very imperative it is to save our wildlife and conserve their habitat! Honey, you may seem like you are “just” one little Koala Bear, but you represent all wildlife out there… Each has a life and a purpose and each animal provides such joy and wonder to any who are privileged enough to cross your paths!

Because of you, Honey, I now feel it is even more important to continue to work together to keep all animals protected in their environments and aim to help and not harm them!

I know that our visit, and my subsequent visit to the Australia Zoo, has made a life long impact on me and my 8 children… And I am so happy to have had a chance to have met and loved my “9th child” too! You have left a lasting lifelong positive impression on each of us and we thank you so much! I said to you as I kissed your eucalyptus smelling fuzz goodbye just before I handed you back over to the zoo caretakers, “Have a wonderful and happy life, roaming freely, Honey!” … And I meant it with all of my heart!

Xoxo

It may well be really common in PA, however, it is also really common where I live and have relatives which includes Milwaukee area, Chicago, Texas, Florida, California and oddly enough none of us have even been to that area of PA. It's sort of an updated version of the old 'valley girl talk' from years ago. And it's STILL as annoying as hell. With her being known for not being the most genuine article, it seems that she does it to appear younger, cute, hip, but sadly comes across as older, haggard and NONhip. But then again her disgusting persona may have made me become a bit jaded so this may not be a completely unbiased assessment of her.

Ok people, let's get something straight: Coupon Cabin is NOT in Illinois, it is in Whiting, Indiana. CC may fly her into Chicago: either Midway airport(which is closer, than O'Hare) or they fly her into Gary, Indiana, airport, which is like right next door. Probably put her up in a Chicago downtown hotel(which is closer). Like I said before: Whiting is just over the Illinois state line, you would drive right pass it, and not know it. It's a really tiny town, by Lake Michigan.

I looked up that Marathon in Vegas, and there are perks, with this race. Like: red carpet walk, gift bags full of name brand merch, the royal treatment. That is why Kate is going, not for the race. I have a feeling Kate won't finish this race either, she will drop out half way, if she makes it that far. Kate has said very little if she has been: running at all during this trip. My understanding of people getting ready for a marathon, whether it is a full or half or whatever, is that they have to run everyday, not when they feel like it, to stay in top runners condition, in order to avoid any problems when running in the marathon. And they usually get checked by a Doctor too, which I've heard nothing mentioned by Kate of doing so. I think cause Kate thinks she is a nurse, she does not have to be checked by a Doctor. Perhaps Kate self medicates and self Doctors. You know reads cliff notes, then she is an expert. One reason I can think of , as to why Kate does not go to a Doctor, cause he might tell her she is not fit to run, she is enemic and maybe her skin. Has anyone ever heard Kate ever mention if she gets any of the womens thing done at the Doctor's office?(mammogram, pap etc?)I've never heard her mention any of that. And since she has very, devoted fans, who are moms and worship her, this is something, that should be mentioned. But I forget, Kates blog is to be about Kate and how great she is and that she is perfect.
This blog about the Aussie trip Kate is writing about: I wonder how many times Kate will say IIIII or me, me, me!, not what she was there for or the people she met.

The "koala bear" thing is especially funny because Khate follows Australia Zoo on Twitter and I have seen them gently correct people who tweet about the koala "bears". Of course, Khate probably didn't notice their tweets, just like she doesn't notice other people.

Her koala blog is so full of crap. She claims the first trip and encounter with "Honey" changed her life and made her so aware of these issues, yet all year long, she has done NOTHING to help the cause. It's all about ME, ME, ME. In fact, she doesn't even care about Steve Irwin Day; I really think she believes the whole day was about HER and her seeing "Honey" again.

Barbee - when you quote, it helps to separate the quote from your comment through paragraphing. Otherwise, it looks like the comment from the other person is actually your comment. :)

barbee said...

will try to remember about paragraphs, however, the before and after " " do indicate what I was quoting. And I didn't say valley talk was 30 years ago, just years ago, and my friends and family have been doing the 'upswing in voice' at the end of sentences all my life and I'm over 70. It is NOT strictly PA talk style and with her being so me,me,me, it would seem she uses it for attention. And THAT is MY opinion which it is my right to state.

She is missing valuable sales and coupons. This is the time of year to stock up on canned goods and baking goods. I also wonder if she will talk about when to use coupons and when to not use coupons. I cringe when I hear her say that she wont buy anything without a coupon. Sometimes, its less expensive to buy the store brand product even when you have a coupon. I doubt she will say anything that has not been said on other blogs.

Re: Valley Girl Speak, directly from Wikipedia

Valley Girl (or Val, Val Gal) is a stereotype leveled at a socio-economic and ethnic class of American women who can be described as colloquial English-speaking and materialistic. Valspeak is also a form of this trait, based on an exaggerated version of '80s California English.

The term originally referred to the ever increasing number of semi-affluent and affluent middle-class and upper-middle class girls living in the bedroom community neighborhoods of San Fernando Valley.[1] Due to the Valley's proximity to the Hollywood media machine, the demographic group which the term stereotyped garnered large exposure to the rest of the world. Consequently, the use became more general, and the stereotype can be found all over the United States, and also in other countries in different forms. During the 1980s and 1990s, in common with the trend in community orientation, interest, and education, the term metamorphosed into a caricature and stereotype of such women: a "ditzy" or "airhead" personality, and unapologetically "spoiled" behavior that showed more interest in shopping, personal appearance and social status than in intellectual development or personal accomplishment.

A certain sociolect associated with Valley Girls, referred to as “Valspeak,” became common across the United States during the 1980s and 1990s, and much entered teenage slang throughout the country.

Qualifiers such as “like”, “whatever”, “way”, "as if!", “totally” and “duh” were interjected in the middle of phrases and sentences as emphasizers. Narrative sentences were often spoken as though they were questions using a high rising terminal.

Admin, you are so right. Kate would not be having these trips minus the kids if the kids hadn't been born. She would be working a real job like the rest of society. This is what makes her motives for having so many children come in to question for me. I have always thought this whole Gosselin mess has been for her, about her, and the children were just her means to an end to become famous and rich. It's like she won the lottery by having those kids. Always has been and I would guess that Jody and Kevin picked up on this early on. Kate dumps people whenever they "find her out." Sad for the kids.
