Will a camera-free life be a difficult adjustment for the Gosselin children?

Experts worry about the dramatic change back to "normal"

For so long so many people had been fighting, hoping, wishing, even praying the Gosselin children won't have to film their private moments anymore, but now that Kate Plus 8 is finally canceled, the question becomes, how will the kids adjust to what is normal for the vast majority of children, yet perhaps so very foreign to them?

"The children are so accustomed to the camera that they're going to need affirmation," said Robert Galinsky, actor, writer and founder of The New York Reality TV School. "The camera will no longer be there to shine a light on them, and that light was never authentic anyway — it was just there to suck the life from these children. They're going to seek other ways to be fulfilled."

And Dr. Russell Hyken of St. Louis, a psychologist specializing in education and a former teacher, had this to say: "When children are showered with attention because they're on TV, that creates behavioral problems because they become more attention-seeking."

Even Galinsky, who makes a living trying to get people on reality television, thinks the industry should be regulated: "Reality TV took the entertainment industry by surprise. No one could have predicted that it would last this long, with no end in sight. Guidelines have to be drawn up at some point to protect these kids, because there's nothing now."

Carrying over the web site discussion here but to the person who said wouldn't someone OCD like Kate be up all night trying to get content on this site? I totally agree.

Web sites are work I should know, but if I stayed up several hours I could easily get ten posts up and maybe another recap and maybe add some interesting things to the sidebar. It's work but it's not HARD to come up with content if you have half a brain. She doesn't work, she has a nanny and a "girl" i.e. house manager. She could sit at her computer and get this web site going.

She is in one word, LAZZZZY.

Sometimes I wish Gordon Ramsey would do life makeovers not just restaurants. He would call her out just like that.

As to the thread topic -- They're all individuals, but some of the Gosselin eight may very well react to the cancellation of their show the same way their mother will. It's a frightening prognosis. Unfortunately entitlement is a learned behavior. I hope Jon is on standby for some serious fallouts some of them are going to go through.

from the last thread...

fidosmommy said...She has the idea and lets everyone else do the work? Is that how it goes? Why, I believe I saw that pattern during her TV run, didn't I? I want new beds for the kids, and I want them NOW. Jon, I picked them out, now you put them together. I want the garage organized. Jon, climb the ladder and do it. I want to talk to that guy over there. Steve (finger snapping) go retrieve him for me.
So why wouldn't it follow that she would say
can we help? Now you all get to work!

************

And to Katie I., that was 'organizing'.See how she had to keep everyone 'organized', the poor dear??

That is why I dont think she applies these 'reality tv' concerns to her kids. It wont happen to her kids because she kept it "organized", everything regarding the kids was very regimented. They were/are kept highly secluded and regimented and in her mind they have been given as little recognition and attention as possible, therefor they will NOT be craving more.

What they WILL be craving are adults, rotating daddies whose only interest in them is using and manipulating them. THAT is what they are used to, and the only adult attention and affirmation they have gotten. (outside of 3 weekends a month, Bless him.)
But somehow when some of them turn to drugs and other harmful attention-seeking behaviors, their Gestational Carrier still wont get it. SHE laid on bedrest for 99 weeks, SHE 'oranized' them, and they owe HER, not the other way around.

If others can learn from the disasters that 8 young Gosselinettes are about to turn into, then maybe their human sacrifices will not have been in vain.

Kate admitted that TLC called her to warn her the show was in danger of being cancelled right after she appeared on the Today show in early August. From her comments, the kids did not know, 'they weren't ready' 'tears at the breakfast table' blah blah. Why didn't Kate prepare these kids way before now? She can discuss financial issues with the kids why didn't she prepare them for the show ending?

It should have NOT been a surprise to them, and they certainly should have not asked about paying for their school nor staying in the house. IF they really did ask this. IF they did, it surely makes Kate look STUPID once again.

More of her bad parenting. Of course she should have warned the kids this won't be forever. She could do it in a way that would't be upsetting to them, i.e. reassuring them just like all shows there show will end but everything will be fine and Mommy has been preparing for when it ends for the past six years and when that day comes we're still going to go on vacations and see the crew and communicate with the fans it just won't be filmed.

I've heard a lot of humble child actors talk about having a healthy sense of how it could end at any moment and it's fun for now but they always know it won't be forever. Heck many adults in the public eye talk about this, knowing they are just the "it" thing right now but they won't always be.

You know all this said the kids seem to be taking the cancellation better than Kate makes it out to be. I recall a few days after the news the kids at haircuts, what a huge, genuine smile Collin flashed at the cameras. This from the same boy who used to cover his face. It really was sort of an "i'm free!!" vibe to it. And I haven't seen the last episode but everyone said most of them are taking it fine.

Some if not the majority of the kids might actually be RELIEVED--no more schedules, no more kids teasing, no more causing attention everywhere they go. Not that Kate would ever admit that's how they really feel.

No Regrets said...

This sort of makes me think that Kate actually DID think the show would go on until the kids were off to college, IF they all go, that is. As the unnamed 'Kate insider' told a rag mag. Or she just didn't care what the kids went through. She surely hasn't cared for 6 years.

barbee said...

as usual with kate, her website is up in all its organizational glory. Well, ummmm, almost, sorta kinda almostish. she is so inept, she doesn't even recognize when something is halfassed! If her kids are 'half' as intelligent as she seems to think they are, they would have known the end was near, the final curtain was halfway down, the fat lady was onstage with her big mouth open (oh, no, that was 'size 2 kate' -- her newest name for herself -- so much better than 'can do kate' who in the realest reality was 'can don't/doesn't kate'). This sorry excuse for a mother figure wouldn't know how to acclimate her kids for 'real' life anymore than she could herself. as much as I hope she falls as flat on her saggy butt as is possible, I hope her kids bounce right back up!

The kids all were smiling and even giggling when asked about the show ending. "Sad" "I am sad" The only exception was Mady, she took her fingers and made her mouth into a sad face LOL But when you listen to Mady, it is nothing but parroting the exact same words that Kate has said.

Yes, that picture of Collin was strange. I got the impression he KNEW who was taking the picture.

No Regrets said...

Any sadness from the kids is that all their vacations will be no more. Kate did say that was the first thing she told them and they asked about. (IF that is true) But I do firmly believe this is how she got them to cooperate all this time, the vacations the freebies. OF course a kid will go for that.

Sadly, Administrator, even with kids off TV there will always, always be kids throughout school who will tease them. It's just the way kids are. And there is all this footage, it will be easy for classmates to tease them continuously for years to come. I wish it wouldn't be true but that's the reality.

Besides, well, it could have changed since then, didn't Kate plan on letting the kids get there share of money at age of 30 or something like that? Jon wanted kids to be able to use it for college, Kate wanted them to be able to use it after. I could be wrong, feel free to correct please.

Speaking of sizes, we know that Kate isn't a size 2, unless designer sizes are cut bigger and labeled lower so the buyer really feels good!

I just looked at the picture of Kirstie with her 100 pound weight loss, and she looks fabulous - all that bloating is gone from her face. The caption is that she is a size 4. In what universe? There is no way in you-know-where that she is a size 4 - more like a size 10. I think the fashionistas tend to exaggerate just a bit. Who cares about size? The fact is that she lost the weight and looks terrific, and I bet she feels great, too.

Kate, however, looks like a bag of bones with leathery skin to match her sofa. You won't be able to tell where she begins and the sofa ends.

My point being is the kids might have been relieved because THEY think this means the teasing will stop.

I knew her in school, and she was a healthy weight then, not fat, not skinny, just healthy. I've watched her weight fluctuate over the years.

The last time I saw her this summer, she looked to be between 125 and 130 pounds...rough guess, but I'm usually within the ballpark guessing weight. There is absolutely no way that she is a size 2, or even a size 4. Maybe in her head she is, but not in the real world. A size 6-8 is more like it.

When she wrote her last book, she claimed she told the publisher they were not allowed to change a word. I believe that. That is why she won't let anyone else write a thing for her for the site. I'm sorry but I wish, so much, that Kate/Jon would have thought about consequences to filming there kids for the world to see. Okay, the first two specials, fine I guess but a series?

It is as if parents don't think how certain things will impact there kids, such as having certain moments immortalized--DVDs, internet especially. It's almost cruel, no, it is cruel.

Dressing the kids in front of the cameras, changing kids in front of cameras, going to the bathroom in front of cameras, having meltdowns, getting into trouble, being yelled at, one child having photographs of being punished all over TV and the internet. I'm sorry that's just not right on any level. They didn't think let alone stop they just continued.

I was out with a friend earlier in week buying baby clothing at a second hand store, she laughed sort of and said, "you ever see yourself on a reality show? You've got plenty of kids." I know she meant it as a joke and I shrugged it off only to tell her, no, I would never subject or sacrifice my family of 12 now to such horrific intrusions. I'd be damned even if the money is good it should never be worth that much to make your kids a freaking exhibit. Besides, my kids are normal, boring, mediocre kids. Biggest issue I have is who drank the last of the milk and didn't say anything.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the kids find their own show rather boring especially the ones where it's mostly Kate just blabbing on the couch. They may have just told her what she wanted to hear (oh mommmy it's just too saddd to watch we can't do it!) to weasel their way out of having to sit through an hour of that drivel.

Despite these kids being only seven and ten, they've got Kate completely figured out. They play her like a piano. It's kind of fun to watch.

Kate doesn't rate said...

NT, no it's not normal. I posted this on a previous blog. It's interesting and informative reading about website "counters."

Amateur Website Hallmarks to Avoid
Hit Counters

Not only are hit counters a visual blight on a web page, but they do not provide any meaningful data. For a single web page that has five images and a style sheet, the hit counter will record at least seven hits. They do not provide information on how many visitors have come to the site or which pages they've viewed. Plus, hit counter numbers are easily manipulated (in other words, inflated). Finally, a serious business protects its web traffic information as valuable strategic data and does not put it up for public (or its competitors') view.

"Under Construction" or "Coming Soon" Web Pages

If you haven't built it, don't show it. Don't waste your customers' time by having them click to pages that have no information. Will they check back later? Probably not—you've just annoyed them. A skilled web designer can develop new sections on a "staging" site, and then make the sections live when they are complete. The only "coming soon" notice on your site should be product announcements designed to heighten interest.

It appears that some of the Gosselin children are more mature than their mother; telling her that there's no reason to "celebrate" the show's ending. Mady is right, it is sad, you can be sad without it being the end of the world. But cake and ice cream it is in K's world. What a fool. And yet, where was she on Monday night when the show was ending in real time? Not with her children.

Pam said...

Kate's tweet about the kids being too sad to celebrate the finale is exactly why this show was not in their best interest to begin with.

If they are that sad about not having a show at 7 and 10 years old, then they never should've had one in the first place. Like someone died? Seriously? A 7 year old came up with that on her own?

Kate should've never told them, "No more fun. No more trips. Now mommy has to work her fingers to the bone so we can keep our house and so you can stay in your school." That is TOO MUCH for a little kid to process. She has those kids scared to death that normal life is gonna suck to high heaven.

"They're going to seek other ways to be fulfilled.".......you bet your boots they are! And their mother will, too! She's already falling apart at the thought of being irrelevant and forgotten.

I predict the kids will take matters into their own hands and TAKE what they want if it's not handed to them. They will fight to be at the front of the line or have the best seat. They are going to feel like nobody cares about them anymore because there's not a camera in their face.

Kate needs her butt kicked for doing this to them. For spoiling them and putting so much pressure on them to perform like a circus show.

That stupid tweet is just another attempt of hers at begging for another show. "My poor kids are so sad. Please help. Boo hoooo. We can't live this way."

PJ's momma said...

I was going to post the tweet about the kids not wanting to watch the last show, but y'all beat me to it! She's still broadcasting their private moments (if what she says is true), by revealing what the kids felt. But I doubt it's true. A 7-year-old saying it's like someone died, but worse? Doubtful. I think she says those things to drum up sympathy for herself and in the hopes it'll get her another gig.

Kate shops or shopped at the same store I like (Ann Taylor) and yes, they do employ 'vanity' sizing. I'm 5'8" and 130 pounds and wear a size 4, but occasionally a 2 there. I told the clerk when I bought size 2 shorts recently, "Next summer I'll be negative zero with this sizing!" They definitely do it to appeal to our vanity. But it can work the other way - I had to buy a size 8 top yesterday on clearance and was like 'woo hoo!' because it implied I had boobs! Which I don't, at 68" tall and 130 pounds. And Kate doesn't either.....

Kate is completely LYING about her size. At 5'6-5'7, you would need to be under 110, closer to 100, to be in a size 2. She is nowhere near under 110. She looks 125-135....which would put her size 6-8. Most likely 8.

Remember, when she sits on the couch at The View, she is so much larger than the other ladies. And when she sat with Natalie Morales on the couch during that sob interview, she looked huge next to Natalie.

No way size 2. That is so laughable.
For someone who had a reality show, she is so out of touch with what is reality and what is fantasy.

NT, not it's not normal (the amount of hits Kate's website is getting) I posted this on the previous article:

I'm trying to post this again
by Kate doesn't rate:

I removed link trying to get this to post.

In other words, Kate's website is amateur-ish, manipulated and just plain MEDIOCRE!

Maggie said...

I am stunned at her laziness. She announced this nothing of a website on national tv. Every category said, "COMING SOON". Six days later she typed and answered a few questions and answers: her height, weight, size, change one physical trait, change one character trait. It literally required zero thought, effort, or talent to do. By the way she is 5'.6.5", 126-128 pounds, size 2-4, would like to be taller and smaller built with long legs; would like to change her tone to be kinder always. And she announced that they would be watching the last episode a few days ago. Whoopeee doo!!!! What a lazy ass of a woman. I am embarrassed for her. She probably has 8 hours every day to herself and several hours every night after the kids are in bed. Then she has 2 full weekends to herself every month. What in the hell does she do all day and night? And she has a part-time babysitter and a housekeeper/laundry person. Wow! What a woman.

And I have been keeping track of her hits because I am certain it is not truthful. For instance, from Friday 3:00am to Saturday 3:00am she got close to 40,000 hits. From 2am to 4am this morning she received 800 hits. Why would 800 people in the middle of the night be checking her website that has not had any changes on it for the past 5 days. From 6am to 3:00pm today (Saturday) she received 14,200 hits. I say no way.

It's not at all that we care about her size. I don't care if she's 100 lbs or 400 lbs. It's the lying. The constant lying. And how effortless she lies. Just flows right off her tongue and you can tell she believes it in her pea brain head. She can stand there and slip on a size 6 or 8 dress with a big fat tag that says as much, and at the same time tell you it's a 2 and expect you to believe it just because she said it.

The whole size issue isn't technically about size. It's about the lies. Which really shouldn't surprise us anymore because you can SEE she had a boob job and lies about that, too. It's just more fodder that you cannot believe one single word out of her mouth.

Hi Lake. You are so right. And now the cancellation of the show will be just one more thing the children can be teased about relentlessly.

The extent of teasing about the cancellation will likely be in direct proportion to how much or how little the G8 flaunted their status or acted entitled among their classmates. Each child no doubt handled his or her celebrity in different ways; those who were more quiet about it might fare better than those who were more vocal about their "specialness."

I feel for those children as they try to navigate these treacherous waters they face.

Stop trying to be so deceptive. It's such a bad character flaw.

Finally Done said...

Will it be a difficult adjustment for the Gosselin kids? Probably. But NOT because the cameras are gone - because their loving MOTHER has planted insecure and frightening thoughts in their heads. For example: threats of losing their home, threats of having to give up their school, threats of no more trips (i.e., no more fun), threats of no money, or mommy having to be gone "all the time" to work in order to feed them, threats about losing their "crew family". Need I go on? These are not my suspicious, these are things Kate has said on the public airwaves and written all by herself. Now she claims a seven-year-old is comparing the end of the show to someone "dying, but worse". Seriously? No young child makes these sorts of connections in their minds nor vocalizes such things unless they have been planted there by an adult. These are adult worries, concerns and thoughts - not those of a child. So in conclusion, my guess is that if left up to the kids alone - yes, they might very well make the transition at their young ages to a NORMAL and PRIVATE life. Kate has almost guaranteed the opposite of that - that they will not make the transition easily or without worries and concerns that should never have been in their heads in the first place. She is truly disgraceful.

I hope you are right. I hope they have enough friends to help this along too. As far as bullying, it can and probably does work both ways. I surely wouldn't say it is one sided. If this is how the kids acted on film regarding the cancellation of the show, then I highly doubt what Kate tweeted about the finale party is really true. It's Kate putting words in their mouths. Just like Mady wants to be a Disney star yet someone posted she said she wants to be a veterinarian.

I totally agree, N.E. Psychologist. She is using her kids to garner sympathy and attention, which some of her fans will totally fall for.

While I doubt it will be an easy adjustment for the kids to adjust to a completely normal childhood, they've had filming breaks throughout the year to get used to time away from the cameras (in addition to time spent with Jon). It's not a sudden shock for them as the cameras haven't been on them 24/7, unlike in Jon&Kate Plus 8. However, if Kate harps on her kids telling them what she's said to the media about the show, I can see how difficult the transition will be. Especially if Kate is expressing fear about their future, which her kids might pick-up on. Will Kate provide the nurturing (including a sense of stability and security) they need as they transition to normalcy? Will the kids blame themselves for the cancellation, just like how some kids blame themselves for their parents' divorce?

Mr. Bond said...

Regarding Kate stating she is a size 2, I think it is important to comment about how unlikely this is true. She has mostly young teens following her. These young girls idolize her. They want to eat what she eats, are all starting to jog because she does. Listen, the only one who will have trouble adjusting, to life without cameras around is Kate. Children have a nack for adjusting, especially young kids (those under 12).
I just read Kate latest tweet, about how the kids, did not want to celebrate the ending of the show. Is Kate really an asshole or what, celebrating the end of a show? Is this just a PR stunt, to make everyone feel guilty about the show being canceled and Kate being unemployed, cause she can not work a mediocre job like the rest of us.
As for the children being damaged by the cameras disappearing, PLEASE!, the only way those kids will be effected if Kate keeps reminding them everyday, that they are not on TV, cause they were not good enough for their show to stay on TV, mind you never blaming herself, for the show being canceled. It will always be the kids fault and Jon(she will find some way to blame him) and anyone else who opposed her.
Did any notice how much that Salahi woman and Kate look a lot a like? They both are: reality persons and have over bleached hair and orange-tan skin, and both think they can do as they wish, and the law does not apply to them?

That is what I thought too, these are the happiest 'sad' kids I have ever seen. Each one repeated "sad" To me it did sound coached. Every single one smiled OR giggled. Except Mady as I said. And Yes, Mady made NO mention of being a Disney anything. Once again, proving Kate a liar. Like the lie about all of them demanding they get a new 'daddy' and she get married. LOL About half of them didn't even want her to date.

Lake Up North said...

Even the case of two of kids being pulled out of school, for bully, whatever the truth was Kate didn't want to admit to, if all she is going to do is avoid looking at situation things are not going to get better. Her kids very well might become victims of bullying or turn into bullies themselves. She hasn't done anything to discourage inappropriate behavior as is. She ignores it. And that in and of itself is going to set her kids up for problems down the road if not already.

I mean Kate seems to be a bully herself in way she treats her kids some of the time. This could very well spell disaster. Way she yells, barks, demands, bemoans constantly about every little thing. The way she has to have control, bullying is all about the control you can have over someone else. And she enjoys it.

TLC ship is sinking said...

Finally Done, you posted while I was busy writing my comment. Very well said. It's Kate who will make this transition to normalcy difficult for the kids. Wouldn't a loving mom naturally want to shelter her kids from knowing any family troubles they might have? KathyB, I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

I totally agree with the assessment

And Kate has no sense of appropriate boundaries for a child, which is common with narcissists. She seems to talk to the kids about things that are way over their head or too much for them, from divorce troubles to show troubles to finances.

A kid should not be spending their time on adult worries. There will be plenty of time for that.

I just want to say to anyone reading this. Please don't put a defense wall right away, but see the point I'm trying to convey. It's not a betrayal to anyone.

I have a whole slug of nieces and nephews with more great nieces and great nephews. Nearly all of them were involved with extra curricular activities. These kids sure have the energy and probably the talent to be involved in soccer, little league, football. I would love to see their smiling, happy faces. It would bring joy to my heart to see them laughing and playing with others and knowing what it's like to go to others houses to play. Kate can still go and socialize with other neighbors. See that people do care if you give them a chance.
To all you Kate fans who are reading this. Try to suggest this to Kate, to use some of the money the her and the kids earned on gymnastics, or soccer, or arts and craft. I understand she deserves to take a break here and there, so do the kids. She will be just as beautiful letting her hair go for one month. That alone will be enough to pay for a sport for the summer. And about the car, Ok, I will concede that she bought it six months ago, if you will concede she could have paid for the gymnastics for all the kids that wanted it so bad, with money left over for her hair and nails. FAIR ENOUGH? Can you see their happy little faces and giggles, and thank you mommy. Goodness, it would have been a great episode. Gosselin at gymnastics. One more episode for you to watch. Or another book for Kate to write. Gosselin's kids enjoy sports activities while learning social skills. It would even help with any anger issues some may still have. What a stress release avenue.

Highly unlikely a seven year old closer to six years old understands death on a level not only to understand it's final, but to compare the canceling of a TV show to it (from Hospice):

A six year old's understanding of death: Child thinks death is reversible; temporary, like going to sleep or when a parent goes to work; believes that people who die will come back

A seven year old's understanding of death: hild's Perception: Child begins to understand the finality of death; some do and some may not.

They are only beginning to understand what death even is let alone to be able to compare other "finalities" to it. As the Grapevine would say, Bitch, please!

Hippie Chick, you made me chuckle. 5 7 9 only went up to 9. But they had other sizes - my sister in law was a true size 0 and that's the only place she could buy grown up clothes! She doesn't have that problem anymore......more like a size 4. Cute as a bug's ear. Remember Lerner, Casual Corner, and others? Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

My mom passed away the next evening on 9-11-11 @ 10:15 p.m. CDT. I'm still catching up on reading posts, but I know No Regrets acknowledged my post at some point. It's been a very hard week, but again thanks to all who are here with their entertaining and insightful commentary. Now that I'm not taking care of mom this blog helps me keep my mind off the other. There are some wonderful people here.

Oh KathyB, I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Please accept my condolences.

You, your family, and your dear mother will be in my prayers.

May your mom rest in peace.

Kate has said at least twice Jon pays his child support. She may not be happy about the amount but she didn't say he doesn't pay it--the actual amount is a dispute she can cry to the judge about and has nothing to do with whether he is actually paying it.

I love when Kate refutes her own sheeples' lies.

Just another explanation why they are sheeple. In addition to despising their ex's, they are also compulsive liars.

By the way sheeple, back child support is called arrears (big word, I know), and if Jon isn't paying it, the government can easily snag it out of his paycheck, you don't need to worry your fluffy little heads.

Oh good Lord. This lying must be a Hollywood thing. Now Kirstie Alley is on Entertainment Tonight claiming her dress is a size 4.

I agree with Finally done and N.E. Psych. and everyone else who worry about what Kate is dumping on these kids.Show cancellation, divorce are not the kids' problems. Kate needs to start teaching these kids how to deal with the feelings they're having ,healthy outlets, not bullying or blaming.

They will find a way to deal with it,they have to and I hope Jon listens to them and helps them find ways to do it. They need to talk and be heard and each of them will digest it in their own way.

Kate treats the tups like they're 4yrs.old and even calls them toddlers! Kate said the kids think not having the show is like a death? They don't know that concept at their age. I wonder how many of them are having nightmares and what happens when they do? Who listens? Does anyone?

Their mother didn't even stick around when the last show was on,so that tells the kids they aren't important and they will accept that blame and internalize it, just like they did with the divorce.

If there ever was a time for Kate to be a real mother, it's now.I'm afraid she is still in shock and absolute denial that this is the end of tv. She says the kids are sad, but it's her.She has no clue what to do right now, none of her past behaviors are working.

She has no one to bully and no outlet for her rage and anger; the only place she's powerful is at home. The only ones to boss around are her children. Ashley isn't around and now they have another change in their life, a new nanny.

I thought the kids looked relieved, even though they were saying they were sad. Mady said "I'm sad, see that's why my mouth is turned down, sad."She's copying Kate. This is not going to end well.I so wish Jon had custody right now.

hey jude said...

What is really pathetic about Kate is, that she lies and believes her own lies. The more she tells them they become gospel to her. That's the height of immaturity and true narcissistic thinking.

Virginia Pen Mom said...

I'll just add my "8 cents" {eye roll} about the website.

I know Brownie the sheeple artist loves the logo, but I don't. (And I do have some art background...) I think the K for "Kate" looks like it's kicking the "8" as well as lording over them. Being larger, the K has the appearance of domineering and dominating the 8, too. And the 8 is a single unit (not individuals) and an extension of Kate. Completely awful from a symbolic standpoint--and expresses her sediments exactly, I would think!

The pink theme would be great for a young girl, but not a grown woman.

They are taking their cues from the mother, as to the passing of the show. I am sure it is like somebody died in that house. When I saw that look on Mady's face when she hit the fetal position after going off the building, I knew that Mady in particular had seen that before and knew what to do as did the others. She is the center of their universe and their lives revolve around her, by design.

And if he were in arrears, there would have been a bench warrant issued for his arrest faster than their woolly little heads can spin around on their necks.

I've seen what happens when child support payments aren't made. PA doesn't go easy on deadbeat dads, even if it's only less than a thousand dollars. In fact, for awhile they were publishing the names of men who were behind on support payments, with the amount owed. They will garnish wages and you're ordered to appear at the courthouse. If you don't show up, you will personally be escorted there!

Anybody remember the wonderful story book of “Mama’s Bank Account?” It is about a Norwegian immigrant family in the early 20th century who live in San Francisco. Money is very tight for them but Mama is so wise and doesn’t want her little kids to worry. So whenever some unusual bill comes up, like the fear of being evicted, Mama always tells her kids not to worry, because the family has a “bank account.”

But in order to keep their bank account secure, she always thinks of ways to cover the bills so they don’t have to go to the bank and take the money out. When the kids are grown they learn, to their great surprise, that there never was a bank account, but then Mama told them that "it is not good for little kids to worry about grown-up things."

We actually were poverty stricken when I was a child, and MY mama thought we all should worry about it all the time, even when we were very little. And we did!

Shame on my mama, and shame on Kate. It is NOT good for little kids to worry about grown-up things.

--------------------

Exactly! I've read that many, or most, of the sheeple are divorced and are bitter over their bad experiences with their former husbands. Well, surely, some of them have experience with child support being garnished from the parent's (usually the father's) paycheck.

As Admin said, IF Jon were actually in arrears, he would be having a large amount withheld from his regular paychecks. Not only that, but in all likelihood, his entire CURRENT child support obligation, plus arrearages, would be deducted from his check since most states do that once the parent has already failed to pay and has built up arrearages. In many states, if the non-custodial parent falls one month behind in child support, a wage garnishment is ordered. Additionally, many states do not renew drivers' licenses for parents that are in arrears.

After all the outright LIES that Khate has spewed about Jon and the kids on national television, does anyone really think that she wouldn't have blabbed about his being in arrears if he ever was at any point in time? She would have LOVED to cry on TV about that if it had ever been the case.

Lake Up North said...

And to think if the situation was reversed and Jon were the one running at the mouth with all these lies, you'd be sure it be the biggest uproar. I can't wrap my mind around why it is okay for a woman to spew so much hurt and pain but heaven forbid if a man were ever to do this to his ex-wife. For life of me if Kate would stop trying to run amok and talk like a real human being she wouldn't be in half the pickle right now.

Yeah, I know, I'm thinking like a rational person but I just can't think like a narcissist folks. It's not within me.

When we were older they gave us checkbooks and debit cards and taught us how to use them. We weren't money ignorant, but we also weren't burdened with any of my parents' financial worries. They had worries like any parents but heck if us kids ever knew until much later.

My 88-year-old mother passed away yesterday. All seven of her children were beside her bed. Then I saw in the Kathy B. post that she had lost her mom this week. (My sympathy to you, Kathy.) I had not thought of sharing my sadness with my "friends" here until I saw the kind responses you left for Kathy.

This is what I posted on my Facebook page:

Dramatics aside, I didn't see much genuine sadness from Mady during that interview. It was simply a stage face. I bet she practices happy, sad, angry, sympathetic, etc. faces in front of her mirror. To Saddest Mom Ever,

I do not want to offend you or anyone on this blog, but your post is so disturbing I feel I must ask this question. To whom are you referring when you say that "I hope she never has to feel that type of pain?"

It is extremely rare for very young children to commit suicide. They not only must have the physical capability to do so, but they must have the cognitive capacity to understand the finality of what they are doing. It is a tragedy beyond compare.

I hope you are getting counseling to help you through this traumatic loss.

Just Me said...

I am behind again, so if this has been said forgive me.

I see someone posted a tweet from the webmaster and a response from (I think) a non-fan telling her to "go back to school."

Now, while I think the site has some really HUGE problems, I am going to take a minute to defend the webmaster.

The webmaster is hired to do a job and that job is to (essentially) give the client what they want and put up the content that the client GIVES them.

I left a webmaster job because communication with the client was so bad and trying to actually *get* the content that I was supposed to put up was like an act of congress.

I was the one getting the majority of the complaints, of course, and having to deal with the problems etc and finally I was like this is no longer worth it because if the client is not giving you content or communicating with you there is NOTHING you can do.

I was continually fighting with people that had zero clue about web stuff that wanted stuff the. way. they. wanted it. period! Regardless, of my experience and knowledge telling them that this is not the best way to do something. It was like working for a group of narcissists (my client was a business so run by a board).

If the client wants a hit counter even though you tell them it's not the best way to go, you put up a hit counter.

If the client wants to go live because they are going on national tv even though they have given you NO content, you do the best you can with what you have been given.

Working with Kate can't be easy. Personally, I'd never take her on as a client. She does not have enough money in the world to pay what I'd ask to work with her ;)

So yeah the site is garbage, but I'm not sure that the ENTIRE blame lies with the webmaster. Frankly, I'm not sure too much blame lies with the webmaster because the CLIENT is the one that should be directing what happens with the page. The webmaster should just be making that vision happen.

Now if Kate gave the webmaster free reign and she tossed up a hit counter and said the page was ready to go with all those coming soon pages, then yeah that is all on the webmaster and she needs to go back to school ;)

Be aware, Saddest sounds a....little bit troll-ish t me. I apologize profusely if I'm wrong.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Just Me, I sort of agree with your assessment. This is Kate, she doesn't listen to anyone.

The web master could have very well said I don't recommend a hit counter, or a coming soon section, I don't think we should roll this out until it's done, and she could be on the phone every day begging lazy Kate to please give her more content. Meanwhile Kate wants what she wants when she wants it despite the advice of professionals and will get around to giving her content when she rolls out of bed at 2pm.

This is likely an amateur designer with her first celeb client who didn't think to specify in the contract if she doesn't like it she ain't putting her name on it.

While I know it's off-topic, my sincerest sympathies go out to Kathy & MaryAnn on the losses of their dear moms. The irony is not lost on me, as I suppose many of my fellow bloggers felt as well. Here are two women who are so deeply saddened at the loss of their elderly moms -- both with great, loving memories of those two women. I can't help but relate it back to the Gosselins, and how those poor kids aren't given any real nurturing from Kate that they'll look back on with fond memories. God bless the recently departed moms, and the daughters who are missing them. The fact that you both express such loss and yearning is testament to what great moms you both had. May your hearts be comforted by the memories of your loving moms....

I agree that saddest seems like a troll. Think about what she is saying (an 8 year old), how she said it ("just lost" and then "its been a year") and why she would say it (why come to a blog about kate gosselin and say something like that.)

It's not like Kate's been known for sticking to things for very long here. If she did her kids would still be in gymnastics other than one day, she would still have the twins in cooking class maybe even. I could be wrong, they could be doing all those things "off camera," Haha, listen to me!

Point is, this web site probably wont last more than ah, I give it a generous few months. How many sheep remain when the bulk abandon the heard?

Now to get back to my free mediocre Saturday evening of just me the house. Yep, laundry and dishes. All kids have happily descended upon my parents who came to stay for a while.

I have to tell you, fidosmommy, PJ's Momma, Dwindle, Admin, Jenna Does/Hippie Chick, Pink, hey jude and AuntieAnn, No Regrets you guys have great comments and great opinions. I apologize if I misspelled anyone's names.

Admin ... maybe I'm just cold-hearted, but I suspect a troll. A recent post about a 7-year-old's suicide just doesn't sit right. The follow up needing to inform us that she was a twin .... ?? Really? Why?

Be aware, Saddest sounds a....little bit troll-ish to me. I apologize profusely if I'm wrong.

I agree, Admin. And given the behavior of some of the trolls you have had to deal with, I don't think it is insensitive at all to be skeptical of some posts. That is why I tried to be very careful about how I worded my earlier post to Saddest.

Most people don't contemplate suicide at 8 years old, come on. That doesn't start to form until one is in high school, maybe late junior high at very least and only in extreme cases. That's after it's been going on for years and years, the type of kids who don't say anything, who don't get the help they needed and the parents who miss warning signs of early bullying. Worst thing most 8 year old's get teased about is...I don't know, maybe they tripped in the lunch room or are giggled at because they have this playground crush or whatever. Not a 8 year old I know of who contemplates death. If I'm wrong I'll eat my words just like Admin...but...

Saddest I'm deleting your posts because I'm fairly certain you're a troll. If you're not, please don't be offended but do seek out a grief support group, a therapist and the like. Here? Not so much.

In case no one else has corrected the "Mama's Bank Account" ... the book and the movie were "I Remember Mama".

Admin said: More actors, people in the television industry, people in the REALITY TV industry, teachers, and psychologists speaking out saying THIS WAS NOT OKAY.

Where were these same people when it was happening? Sorry, it's just that it always seems like people are willing to commit to things after the fact, and that's rather frustrating.

Lake, sadly some very young kids HAVE committed suicide but it almost always makes huge news and there are almost always other factors involved, such as kids on psychotropic drugs or in foster care. It happens but it's extremely rare. I can not find one case of a very young suicide being attributed to bullying. Kids that young just don't make that kind of leap. Often it's a mentally ill child who wants to hurt himself due to mental illness, but is not really thinking WHY they want to kill themselves as an older child does.

Anyway, beware of folks like this trying to stir up trouble now that they're queen is off TV and they're bored.

Silimom there were professional people like this speaking out. I could dig up the posts on it from last year, there were a couple therapist one from like Harvard or Yale or something that decided this topic was worthy of a blog post. So did Dr. Laura. One of them even agreed to do an email interview for the blog, it was so long ago I can't remember if I actually got around to posting it or if I sat on it because so much other stuff was happening.

Of course they were all raked over the coals for it by the queen's worker bees. Harassing their school deans and so on.

From her "Ask Kate" section on her website:

My First Ask Kate Blog! September 17, 2011
Many of you have asked personal questions about ME. Here are some honest answers that are mixed with a bit of hesitation-

1. How tall are you?

I am 5’ 10.5” Oh, without heels you mean? Oops, ok, I’m 5’ 6.5” on my flat feet

2. How much do you weigh?

On a good day I’m about 126-128. On a bad day – well, more than that. I try to focus on health and how I feel rather than THE number… But, I’m a woman so what can I say?

3. What size do you wear?

I’m usually a 2 or a 4

4. If you could change one thing physically about yourself, what would it be?

I’d like to be taller and built smaller… And I’d love to have long, endless, skinny legs… Wouldn’t we all?

5. If you could change one characteristic about yourself what would it be?

I would love to have a kind answer and be able to deliver a kind tone, everytime to everyone. This is something that I am aware that I don’t always “get right” and am working on this trait to improve my interaction with others… I have seen some improvement over the years and I hope to perfect it… at least before I die! Lol!

Oh Kate can be nice people. You know, when it suits her, when she wants something or she's on TV sans kids. Anything else, Kate just chooses not to be kind, gentle or to "get right."

Man that made me laugh. It just sounds stupid I'm sorry but it does.

i noticed kate responds to a lot of her tweeties but VERY RARELY responds to mkbrownlow. yet mkbrownlow tweets her constantly hoping for a nugget of attention. maybe kate actually got smartish and realized it was getting a bit stalkerish. it's kinda sad almost seeing it. maybe she realized this one lived a bit too close to home

supermom of eight! has all day while kids are in school to herself. has babysitter for when kids are home...has laundry help and 2 washer/dryers. has 2 free weekends a month. HOW DOES SHE DO IT! SO INSPIRATIONAL.
lets see
1. scream about being organized while chaos ensues
2. encourage tweeties to berate the kid's loving dad by making :0)smiley faces when someone bashes jon
3. tweet all day while getting traffic citations
4. lie all day about what you are doing
5. have lame website with no content except talk of your weight.
6. scare kids about no $ and no more trips since show is cxl'd to the point kids think the cancellation is worse than death
7. hint to having many deals (wink, wink) to sort through
8. pretend to run 10.5 miles while wearing chaffing shorts, having no water and holding an iphone

there..eight ways to show how kate "does it all"

So sorry to hear I'm not truthful. I actually was talking about Kate in that I hope she never has to lose a child.

I'm in 2 great support groups, 1 is with my son. We each see a psychiatrist separately.

Carry on. Be kind to one another. Life is short. Thank you for the small space to post.
