Kids have spent $21,000 on Kate's hair in just five months

How many hours has this little boy worked so that his mommy can have her hair extensions?

According to a source, a lot. $21,000 of his money has gone to maintaining Kate's new hair extensions which were featured on the first episode of Kate Plus 8. Kate, who has famously bemoaned that she has legal bills to pay, is in fact blowing thousands on her hair. How does she plan to pay for this when interest wanes? At this rate, the kids will never be able to retire.

  • Extensions cost $5,000
  • Color costs about $500
  • Cuts with Ted Gibson are $950 a piece
  • Kate has spent a total of 50 hours in the stylist's chair maintaining her look over the past 5 months

Collin is putting up with the paparazzi so Kate can keep her hair the way she wants. Hope Kate is proud of herself.

Did this "source" check to make certain that the money for these atrocious haircuts actually came out of Kate's pockets, and it wasn't TLC footing the bill? I find it hard to believe that she paid for this, since the original purpose was for glamorizing herself for her DWTS gig, which was nothing more than publicity for her new TLC shows. I would certainly think that TLC paid for Gibson's services, (who is also under contract with TLC) and continues to pay for this.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Scarecrow, do you understand that even IF TLC paid the bill for this, it's still income to Kate? There is no such thing as a freebie when you are paying someone in exchange for services. Just try to get this past Uncle Sam as a freebie and see what happens...

It is income any which way you slice it, and therefore, the children earned it.

Ellie said...

I'm sure TLC is footing the bill for a substantial amount of Kate's 'upkeep'. However, no one can dispute the fact that those kids are paying for an oversized house that they do not need, nannies, Kate's shopping excursions and her weekly mani/pedis. The kids are probably paying their own private school tuition in a roundabout way. Anyway you look at this, its just nauseating that this disgusting vile human parades through life with a warped sense of justification that these precious children owe her this lifestyle.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Look at it this way. Even if you refuse to see these services as income in exchange for Kate Plus 8, Kate nonetheless got $21,000 worth of something.

Sooo....what did each of the kids get worth $21,000? Why does their mother get a $21,000 freebie and they get jack?

Beats me why Ted Gibson is such a sought-after stylist. I've seen some of his creations on What Not To Wear and find myself yearning for Nick.Kate looks as if she had put her big toe into an electrical socket.

$21,000? I hope and pray that the Internal Revenue Service has set up a substation at the McMansion. I bet Kate uses her 8 little deductions! The irony of that would be funny if it weren't so sad..

Personally I can't wait for Mady to write her version of Mommy Dearest. Kate brought those kids into the world for one purpose and that was/is to make money off them. She is an absolutely horrible human. Can't wait until those children are no longer marketable; Kate will be moaning that she has no money because she's pissed it all away. When she moans she has bills to pay then we all know that will fall on silent ears and Katie Irene will be "done".

I'm sitting here wondering if Steve is truly a bodyguard for Kate. Has anybody ever once heard of a "fan" trying to get close to Kate or somebody approaching her in a menacing or threatening way? I know I've never once read or heard any such thing. Either Stevie is doing a "bang" up job or he is there as a personal assistant not bodyguard. I'd wager that 99% of the people who see Kate don't have a clue who she is.

K8SUCKS said...

Assuming this is true, we also shouldn't ignore the shear ( sic,pun intended ) amount of time that K8 spends on herself, maintaining THE BRAND.
50 hours over 5 months is just outrageous, not to mention a waste of money since her hair looks like crap.

She has never that amount of effort into raising and enjoying her children.

Holy Smackers! If the hair costs $21,000.00 to maintain ... how much are the botox treatments to keep her eyebrows pointed like Mr. Spock?
Guess I'll stick to my $10.00 Maybelline and $12.00 Clairol treatments.

"Just try to get this past Uncle Sam as a freebie and see what happens..."

I wouldn't put anything past her to see what happens. Do you suppose she got the church donations past Uncle Sam?

The hair is a disaster. I've seen better haircuts done by a five-year-old on dolls.

The article is nebulous. There's no mention that it is likely that TLC footed the bill. It makes it sounds like she dug into her own pockets to pay for these services. Perhaps they should have done some research and determined exactly who paid for these services and explained it thusly. It's taxable income, but she's not paying $21,000 in taxes! I hope she has a good accountant.

===================

Teachermom,

I beg to differ; this web site is not part of the problem but a solution since it gets information out there to child advocates.

In other words, by posting the offending photos and/or full articles here complete with the link it prevents "clicks" on the same items that are posted at the dedicated web sites that are incahoots with TLC to gauge how much interest is in this family.

As soon as ROL does not have all the Gosselin traffic, TLC will see that the 15 minutes are up.

Now, as soon as people stop watching the first run show where ratings count, the sooner this show will be off the air permanently. Once off the air the kids will no longer will have to work to support their parents and they can have the rest of their childhood back.

I, of course, will NOT be watching. I am considered a hater but I will not watch to nit pick each scene. Instead I will come here to this web site and read the recap.

See I happen to feel that the Gosselin kids were not born for my entertainment. As long as I see signs like Collin covering his face because he can't catch a school bus or go on somewhere with his dad and siblings, I, too, will do what I can to help this child, starting with not tuning in ever again and writing to sponsors.

Just read on Preesi that the Whole Foods shopping trip was a setup photo op. Apparently her publicist decided that with all the photos of Kate coming out of Target and Giant with processed foods, it was time to bring in the organic food fake super mom once again. An INF pap was promised pics and a short interview at the Whole Foods 44 miles away, then the publicity release made it seem like Kate shops there all the time. What is funny is that Kate got lost trying to the find the store and the pap had to give her directions!

I get it----she's got the new episode coming up with the chickens and the organic food pitch will be used.

TLC Stinks,

The viewing public is manipulated by TLC - like sheep - so they can make million$ and million$ of dollar$.

I am not surprised at all to have it confirmed that an INF pap was promised photos and a short interview at the Whole Foods store. The kicker of course is that Kate needed directions to get there. She only bought something there that day because the photo op was required in order "to play" with the public.

One of the things that has come out in this Gosselin mess is that reality TV is NOT real. It is ALL scripted. There are PR people behind the scenes all the time.

There is no doubt that the kids are W-O-R-K-I-N-G to support their parents. None. No ifs, ands, or buts about it Sheeple!

Only when the public realizes that TLC is playing with their viewers like fools, the sooner TLC will lose viewers.

NO viewers = NO ratings.
NO ratings = NO sponsors.
NO sponsors = NO show.

I do believe - as well as hope and pray - that Al's book will be a best seller, especially if it exposes TLC and the Gosselins for making fools of the fans while exploiting children in order to do so.

Will Kate's appearance on THE VIEW on July 2nd be her last?

Will Al Walentis be making an appearance on THE VIEW promoting sales of his book?

Only time will tell.

Kids don't care nearly as much about material things as adults do, so to project our own desires onto kids and say "see? They have a huge house, nannies, trips! They MUST be happy!" is to engage in a huge disconnect in logic. Huge.

What kids DO care about is TIME spent with those they love and those that love them. TIME. They want you to get down on the floor and play with them, they want to cook with you in the kitchen, they want you to tell them things, show them things, teach them things, just sit next to each other reading, playing board games, all that stuff. It's the stuff memories are made of, it's what will get both parent and kid through the teen years without falling apart.

When I asked my 16 year old daughter what her FAVORITE childhood memory was, I half-expected to hear about the big driving trip we took when she was nine and she got to see all the great wonders of the western states.

But no--it was the simple picnic lunches we used to have on our backyard lawn, under the plum tree. She'd bring out her little kid-style tape player and I'd bring out a blanket, sandwiches, cookies and juice and we'd talk and sing along to her kid tapes. That's it. Nothing special. But to her, it was one of the best things she can remember, just hanging out together. Me listening to her.

I realize Kate has eight kids, but:

1. she apparently wanted all those kids and
2. you can pay attention to and spend time with eight kids just as well.

But she doesn't. She's hardly around them, doesn't seem to have a close relationship with ANY of them. And in a few years, they will be teenagers and NOT wanting to spend time around her. They will be pulling away, hard.

NOW is when they want to be with her. And now is when she's jetting around doing TV shows, interviews, spending hours and hours getting her hair done, nails done, tanning, shopping, book signings. The only time she seems to spend with them is when the cameras are on.

Trust me, someday, probably sooner rather than later, they will make that connection. And they will be bitter as hell about it. She may annoy us, anger us, whatever. But what she's doing to her kids is breaking their hearts.

TheresaB said...

She doesn't 'sound' like she's laughing. Kate knows and has expressed it many times, that "90% of the people out there, can't stand her" and did you hear her comments to the paps when she was in the back of the car loading her groceries, "I'm really not as mean as the people say or think I am" (paraphrased). I feel sorry for Kate, she is desperate and it's showing more and more lately. Kate will never be happy, nor have someone in her life that cares about her, as long as she continues to be the self-indulgent, greedy, whining, selfish woman she is. What will she do when she REALLY has to do it all by herself? No help from Stevie, he'll be gone, no help from family, they're all kicked to the curb, no friends, Jamie will be gone too once Kate's 'fame' is gone....and once the kids are old enough, they'll be gone....

-----------------------------------------------
From Kate's recent blog: "Eating Me Out of House and Home"

"...having eight kids means you have to buy 20-plus bags of snacks, 10 boxes of crackers, 10 packages of cookies and 20 boxes of cereal on any given trip to Whole Foods. So storage is very important! And did I mention my kids have very, very healthy appetites?

So my new pantry was added yesterday, immediately following my latest four-grocery-cart-excursion-stock-up extravaganza...our mammoth, unsuspecting storage unit located on the far end of the kitchen, near our infamous table."

Another reason for the Whole Foods photo-op! So Kate can show her readers how organic she is by shopping at an organic store.

More of the children's money spent elsewhere! She just remodeled her kitchen last year. Additional evidence of Kate's lack-of-organizational skills: she couldn't foresee how much pantry space she needed in her new kitchen. If she was really super-organized, she would have known exactly the right type/amount of shelving she needed.

I also thought that Kate had a personal chef that did the cooking for the Orphanage. If I were a chef in charge of planning meals for all those people I would either do the shopping myself or send someone to the wholesaler's.
Probably the chef complained about Kate's poorly planned lack of space, hence the remodeling.I bet Kate doesn't really do any of it unless the cameras are rolling.

Dear Taxes 101,

I took Taxes 101 in law school...actually it was more like Tax 999, it was a very hard class. We were required to know the entire Tax Code. I know Taxes. Kate MAY NOT deduct her hair/makeup any upkeep.

From the IRS web site:
Appearance and Image
Taxpayers in the entertainment industry sometimes may incur expenses to maintain an image. These expenses are frequently related to the individual's appearance in the form of clothing, make-up, and physical fitness. Other expenses in this area include bodyguards and limousines. These are generally found to be personal expenses as the inherently personal nature of the expense and the personal benefit far outweigh any potential business benefit. No deduction is allowed for wardrobe, general make-up, or hair styles for auditions, job interviews, or "to maintain an image".
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/industries/article/0,,id=100676,00.html

I urge you not to deduct your hair, makeup, manicures, pedicures and hooker shoes and clothes. The IRS won't let you deduct these things!

Kate's upkeep is NOT a business expense. Please read the tax code. I don't care how much she thinks her appearance helps her get richer, Uncle Sam says NO. You can deduct uniforms, like say a nursing uniform. Unless Kate is trying to get her hooker outfits to pass as a uniform?

Hopefully Kate has a good tax attorney so she doesn't end up paying big fines or worse. Hopefully you don't end up in jail for trying to deduct these things, but I can't give tax advice!

So if TLC pays for all of those things (hair, makeup, clothing, dry cleaning, nannies, gardeners, pool boys, etc.), and Kate must report it as earned income, then what tax benefit does TLC get (if Kate can't deduct those things as business expenses)?

Regarding the post about Jackie Coogan at the top of this page: the Gosselin kids have nothing to worry about. They will NEVER make $3 million or $30 million or $300,000, for that matter. And they are only NOW getting their first paychecks from TLC, only $25,000 each per episode. Kate Plus 8 probably won't be around much longer as people tire of these vapid people, so the paychecks may not amount to much in the end.
