Kate has a ball with the kids

Sneakers and hair pulled back, sans make-up, Kate actually looked happy to be with the kids today as she trooped them out to play ball in front of the paparazzi.

Oh My..... Come on kids, we're going to play ball in the driveway, the hot asphalt and we're all going to smile under the penalty of severness. Forget the other 23 acres where the grass is green and soft. We have to play right in front of the garage doors.

Proof that Khate reads these blogs. Why else would she be putting the nicey nicey act on for the paparazzi!

pate said...

Well....her "people" are reading these blogs.

Lauren said...

Ulterior motive anyone?

Kate is behaving this way for a reason. I'm sure it will be made known in the near future. Kate is owned by TLC so her life is very scripted and closely guarded. It could be for the benefit of her new show or maybe she is trying to put on a new face for another project.

AuntieAnn said...

Why do I think the only reason she's smiling is because that ball was meant to be caught by Mady?

PatK said...

Hmmm...is that some kind of special magical, expensive ball/toy received gratis? Otherwise, I can't believe her fascination in playing with it with the children without filming going on. And the way she's dressed screams there was no TLC crew there.

PJ's momma said...

Er, the pics I saw had her scowling in all of them. This is the only good one! In one, Mady was clearly delighted by something her brother did and their mom is just scowling at him.

PJ's momma said...

Oops, forgot to say, right before this, the paps caught her 'jogging' on the road, which is why she's dressed like that. I'm a runner and usually both feet come off the ground, but if she wants to call it jogging, good for her. Better than the dreadmill that I find so boring, but if I claimed to hate the paps and they were there, I'd be on the ding-dang dreadmill she's talked about.

Kate can't win. Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't.

It makes a difference when she's smiling...I think this is a cute picture of her.

"Kate can't win."

Oh, I don't know about that. Seems she's won everything she's set out to win. It's the kids who are the losers in this whole fiasco.

"Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't."

She has nobody to blame but herself.

mommyinca said...

Is there money in that ball she's catching? A camera in the ball? I'm trying to figure out WHY she's smiling. (sense the snark)

In all seriousness, I truly hope she was genuinely having fun with her children. That's what they want and need. They need a mom who will play WITH them. Good for her, if that's what she's doing.

Just one more photo op. TLC reads these blogs and one common thread is how Kart never smiles around her children. IMO this is just a staged photo op. They probably had to take thousands of pictures until she actually smiled in one. If she truly wanted to play catch with the children she'd have taken it out back where they'd have privacy. Not Kart.....fame ho that she is, she has to be out where her picture can be taken. I just wonder how many cameras were broken in the process.

Unfortunately, the cynic in me agrees with mommyinca - what's the REAL reason K8 is smiling?
And, of course, she's "playing" in the FRONT yard.

Too bad too, because if I didn't know better, I would think this was a great picture of K8 - an actual, genuine smile in non-trampy clothing.

*Sugar&Spice* said...

Just wondering. Did she just receive her first TLC check bonus? Is she going on a book tour soon with steve minus the kids? Did she get a new anti depressant? Is jamie coming back home for the week? Is Kate happy that Ryan Seacrest wants her to be the next bachelorette?

I dont believe for one min this stage mother. Can be happy with her kids. Unless the cameras are running, P people are in the bushes around the property, and writters are around. Once again this is a stage photo for something. Or its just here to make kate look like super mom again.

Lori said...

If you look at the other photos on ROL she's frowning in many of them which is much more her style.

fidosmommy said...

I have to admit that I find it nice that she can actually muster up a smile around her children. Much like the broken clock is right twice a day, even inept mothers have good moments.

I can only hope these smiles are genuine, and the kids actually had a good time outside playing with each other and Mommy.

fidosmommy said...

I think it's interesting how the pictures focus on Kate rather than the kids. They are secondary to these pictures. Are the paps catching on that the kids are being exploited?

Carolina Gal said...

Does anyone else feel like we should be getting a check from TLC for all our efforts in 'writing' the plot lines for K8?

When we say, Kate needs to smile more, voila. When we say she needs to dress more like a mom, and less like a tramp, voila. When we say she needs to play w/her kids more., voila.....when we say..........

Kate catches like a three year old. How come somebody who was a cheerleader in high school turned out to be so physically inept?

Kelly said...

She's physically inept now because she's top heavy. If she leans over to far, she'll fall over. Weebles Wobble but they don't fall down. Kate's not a weeble. Just a dweeble.

Because she was a cheerleader in high school twenty some years ago. Even then, she was out on the court CHEERING, not catching balls!
Back then, at her old alma mater, there wasn't much involved in cheering. Cheering wasn't the calenthetics/dance/gymnastics maneuver that it is today. It was just the "V*I*C*T*O*R*Y* cheer while waving pompons.

Steve the Handler to Kate: Kate, um, TLC wants some more pics.

Kate: Fine, get the nanny to get the kids in their out front outfits and make sure they DO THE GIRLS' HAIR THIS TIME. BRAIDS.

Steve the Handler: It's just that...they want you out there, too.

Kate: Well, I can't. I have appointments. And my nails. I also have to tan today. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE, STEVE.

Steve the Handler: I know, Kate, but...there's more. You need to play with the kids. And smile. Just once, just enough so that Reg and Mike and the regular photogs get the shot for TLC and Radar Online.

Kate: WHY? THAT'S RIDICULOUSNESS! I AM NOT HANDLING THIS, STEVE. YOU ARE.

Steve the Handler: I can't. People don't care about me smiling with the kids. Look, it's just one shot. Just....wear what you have on. Look like you just worked out or something. It'll take ten minutes, tops.

Kate: FINE, but after that, NO MORE TODAY. And tell the nannies to keep those kids QUIET. I NEED MY REST, I HAVE MY SCREEN TEST TODAY WITH MR. MAYER.

(Ooops, went into another infamous mother diva there...)

Carol said...

Hey this is fun, let's get her to basket weave on that hot driveway. NO! She should set up a lemonade stand with all eight kids in the driveway and have to sit there selling it to no one (but the photogs employed by TLC) all day WHILE SMILING!!!

MUWAHAHAHAA!!

I like the lemonade stand idea. :-) I do have to agree, though, it is a nice picture of her. I always liked her look better when she wasn't trying to be a Dina Lohan/Real Housewives type. (That doesn't mean I liked her as a parent however).

I just wish that she'd fix up her backyard and let the kids play out there where they don't have to be photographed. I think if she wanted to, she could put in a small bike path for them out in the back 40. There really isn't any good reason I can see for them to have to play out front.

Kate would have been 16 in 1991. By then most
cheerleading was the gymnastics style. I'm surprised her school was still doing the 1970's style of rah rah rah, go team stuff. The
progams I saw in the early-to-mid 1980's in the small rural community I lived in made my head spin with the lifts, throws, pyramids and tumbling routines.

Yes, absolutely, but this was a very small, private, Christian (very fundamental) conservative school that wasn't known for its sports teams by any means and the Chargers didn't place an emphasis on the cheering squad. Moreover, I cheered in high school and college (some pretty intense routines) and today I couldn't begin to do those gymnastics. Remember, Kate did this 20 years ago. The body isn't as agile as it was in high school. She even admitted she didn't like sports -- wouldn't go rollerblading, skiing, and isn't a swimmer.

IDModo said...

I wasn't a cheerleader. I was a nerd, a flute player in the band. This was in 1956. Still, the co-ordination required to do even our simple cheerleaders' routines in those ancient times seems to be beyond Kate's ability . We saw this on DWTS. And she still catches like a little kid.
I sure didn't think my mild snarkiness would garner so many posts! You guys are great!

Isn't 35 too young for dementia to have set in ?

Was Kate really a cheerleader in high school? I wonder if she was...it was reported that whined about Nicole's dance experience and Erin's cheerleading experience while on DWTS. (laughable, I know, since she'd be lame no matter who she was competing against). Also, she is exceptionally inflexible and uncoordinated. The woman is only 35; if she had any athletic ability at some point in life, she is far too young to be so stiff and slow. If she was really a cheerleader, was she the kind who had to do anything besides yell because most people who cheer are incredibly athletic, many with gymnastics experience. Kate is such a sloth and so stiff that she cannot even extend her legs straight or lift them as high as her own hip. Is the cheerleading another lie or was she an affirmative action cheerleader (for the incredibly unlovely)?

Kate the ball hog.

Hey Kate, mark off some bases..use anything (knowing you and TLC, you all would order MLB equipment),but set up a softball game. Get a T-Ball set or slow pitch to the little ones. Cara can be catcher or one of the crew, or maybe you should let Cara or Mady slow pitch. Your kids should be doing things like this Kate. Normal kids do this at their age. It increases their self-esteem, teaches them how to win or lose, coordination, following set rules, how to have fun!

Yes. The shouting kind.

She does look pretty in this pic. At least she is smiling and not all made up looking phoney.

I don't think Kate knows how to catch a ball. Maybe she never played ball as a kid or maybe she is just afraid of ruining her nails.
