Another day of filming for the kids

Who needs a summer vacation from school? The 6-year-olds are still working through their vacation, on Saturday with the Amish farmer and now today the crew was spotted at the house once again.

Exploiting Kids When Finances Are Tight
When times get tough, some folks dig in and just get more creative and try harder. For some parents, when the economy got tough, they got their children to try harder, and I’m not happy about this at all.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the children’s segment of the modeling industry has seen a 50% increase in applicants in the past three years, as parents try to have the kids’ “looks” subsidize the family income. Also contributing to the growing number of mini-models are the reality TV shows featuring children (Toddlers and Tiaras and Little Miss Perfect come to mind).
I think this is a despicable development. Parents there to exploit their children for their own income and ego? The family income should not be put on the back (or should I say “face”) of children whose ages are still in single digits!

The impact on children is horrendous on many levels:

1. They have to deal with rejection at a very early age. Children take these situations quite personally, and don’t understand the frivolity of choices based upon product, the taste of producers and so on.
2. Kids think they are the most important part of the family - exaggerated value makes for a narcissism that will likely haunt that child throughout life, especially when it disappears as they get older and less cute or desired by Hollywood.
3. The child who is the performer becomes the “golden child,” and other children in the family are terribly hurt as their value to the parents (i.e., love) seems to disappear.
4. Kids learn that money and looks are the focal point of life.
5. Small children don’t understand the ramifications of the four items above and can’t really make the choice for themselves as to whether or not to participate (and such participation would change their lives and might not be in their best interests).
Exploiting children for ANY reason is wrong. And that’s that.

I really don't get why they insist on getting photographed out front. It does add to speculation about what the next K+8 episode will be, but it doesn't necessarily inspire people to watch. If anything, it makes people mock them more. Don't they have a pool? Can't the kids go swimming and play in their crooked houses while they are on vacation? It's just not fun watching the kids anymore. I did watch early in the game until I could no longer stomach the way Kate treated Jon and everyone else so disrectfully and dismissively, but the premise of the show has outlived its usefulness or profitability. For the sake of those kids and their privacy, I wish they'd give it up.

Kate's working, kids are playing said...

According to Katan the Genius, those kids are not working, but merely playing in front of the cameras. (Even though they now have work permits.) Now, SHE is working, she has a job, to support the kids, of course. But the kids are just living their lives. Problem is, they do things on camera that they don't do in real life: travel, build chicken coops, spend time with their mother as she pretends to take care if them, etc. Just the sight of that waistless, boob flashing bitch makes me sick. Tired of her and her abused, neglected, whiny, violent children. I have such a bad feeling about what us to become of those kids. Their mother really is unfit to raise one child, let alone eight.

Kate moans and whines about the 'Papparrazzi', but the only 'papps' seem to be the ones she/TLC pays to publish on Radar Online. If they were real papparrazzi wouldn't we see her in other places other than Target, Nail Salon, Tanning Spa and FedEx? Real papps would follow her and catch her doing other things. It's always the parking lot with/without a shopping cart. Even their planted photo ops are lazy. If Kate/TLC didn't alert said 'papps' in her town wouldn't she shop virtually photo free?

I've been on movie sets before....this is what it looks like when you're waiting for the director to get things just right. Hurry up and wait.

Oh how real this all is.

pa mom too said...

Why are they filming so much when they are only supposed to have 12 specials ? TLC wouldn't be lying, would they ? And what's the reason another episode won't be on until July 11th ? Anticipation maybe, thinking people will be frothing at the mouth to see Kate and the kids again after that initial little "2 show" taste of them ?

pettiness is fun said...

Re: Kate's posture. Oh, it's bad. Her neck juts out from her body at a 45 degree angle, much like a horse, instead of straight up, you know, like a human. The bad posture makes her look like she has a hump on her upper back. It was much more obvious with the possum 'do. She can try all she wants, but Katie Krieder was not blessed with beauty or a feminine body. All the plastic surgery in the world can't give her a waist, a human-like neck, or fix that square butt. She lost the genetic lottery. I've seen pictures of her sister Clarissa. Very pretty face, very feminine. She got the good genes. Kate got the horse faced, linebacker body genes.

Why are they filming so much wne there's only supposed to be 12 episodes pa mom?

Because every hour or half hour takes DAYS and DAYS of filming. This is something the sheeple refuse to accept. They insist that a half hour of an episode takes a half hour of filming. They have obviously never worked in the business or even known someone who worked in the business. In some ways the paps are a good thing--proof positive how much filming is really involved to squeak out one tiny bit of useable footage. The scary thing is if what we saw of Mady was the best they could get out of the days and days of filming they did both in PA and Florida for the premiere, what did she say that was left on the cutting room floor??

Doesn't belong here but Kate & TLC provide insight on "Twist of Kate". Is this her way of giving back?

The Cat (er, I Mean Show) is Outta the Bag
06/14/2010

[From the TLC Editors: The following post was written by Kate before her new shows were announced. Because Kate has had so many questions about "Twist of Kate," she would like to share some thoughts -- that she recorded some time ago -- here in her blog. Stay tuned for more "Twist of Kate" air date announcements. In the meantime, click here for more of Kate's take.]

The cat (er, I mean show) is outta the bag...

They have finally been announced! My exciting new projects with TLC! First, my show “Twist of Kate.” I have envisioned this show for quite a while. So many women contact me in so many ways. They seem to be as interested in learning more about me as I am about them -- once I read their amazing letters!

I am at a place in my life where I am looking back and looking forward all at the same time. (Don't ever try that while dancing, by the way. It won't work!) I have had the opportunity to travel a unique and exciting path up to this point, and now I want to learn more about other women’s stories too.

I want to meet them, see where they work, what challenges they face, what their family dynamics are, all about their kids, and most importantly, if there is a way I can help -- if only briefly.

There are a handful of women I've connected with back when JK8 began, who I remain in contact with and have become friends with ... and that is what I envision for my new show.

This is a new “Twist of Kate” that you may not have had the chance to see before ... this Kate has received a lot of help, care and support over the years, and I'm ready to draw from that and send it right back at you!

And for more exciting news ... My kids are busy packing ... They don't care or know where they are going on the re-launched “Kate plus 8,” they are just over the moon about reuniting with our crew and getting on a “hair pain” again. The only difference? They are turning 6 years old and can now say “airplane” properly...

No worries, they are cuter and sweeter than ever ... I'm off to start packing bags...

See you wherever we end up!!!!!

It's a beautiful day! :0) ~Kate

Admin, true...I wasn't thinking about that even though I knew it look a long time to get the footage they need. It's been so horribly humid lately , the kids would have loved to be swimming instead of standing in the driveway all day with cameras in their faces. This show can't possibly go on too much longer, but even a few more months of filming is a few months too many.

You're supposed to be maybe 15 or 16 before your parents tell you you need to stop sitting on your butt all summer long and go out and get a summer job.

OC Girl said...

I thought the 12 shows are for "Twist of Kate", not the specials.

Is this why the bicycles are on the garage shelves, out of reach from the children? So the kids must use the cadillacs to play with, instead of getting physical exercise from biking around the driveway.

Or does Kate not know how to measure her garage to fit all the kids' belongings (contrary to what she said in the special)?

Way to promote healthy physical activity for kids, Kate!

I have no proof, yet no doubt, that TLC and Kate are filming those kids as much as they possibly can. They are finally paying attention to PA labor laws and now have to contend with school schedules, the kids' waning enthisiasm, public outrage, and possibly Jon's input as to the amount of filming that is done. The incredible, as in un-fucking-believable, thing is that the Greedlins actually signed a contract for FORTY episodes for season 5, which of course, were not all done because Jon thankfully pulled the plug. How would they have done 40 episodes if each episode takes days to film? Laws must have been broken left and right. Kate would have worked those kids to death in the name of more more
more...money, fame, exposure. And she will continue to work those kids ragged as much as she can possibly can. So sad that the one person in control of those kids does not have their best interests at heart. The twins are starting to rebel; I give the tups another year before they start acting out too. Unless they are delayed in that regard, too.

Anonymous said...

My problem with the freebies is that they kids are exploited to get them.

But I was watching the season finale of Little People Big World, and even though I think these parents are lightyears better than Kate and haven't exploited their children nearly to the extent Kate has....they still got their fair share of freebies. Now here we are the twins are adults, 19 years old. And what are they doing? Laying around the house, going to community college and taking 2 or 3 easy classes. No ambition whatsoever. Part of that may be their personality, part of it may be poor parents...but you have to wonder, they have their show and they have their freebies, what motivates them to want to do anything? Life is on a silver platter, has been since they were 12. I envision the Gosselin kids with a similar attitude--your cliche spoiled little rich young adult.

How do the Gosselins intend to counteract the spoiled little rich kid syndrome that could extend into adulthood? More freebies?

AuntieAnn said...

Only way it'll stop is if everyone stops watching.

Blame the sheeple, aka KG's faithful followers, for the show's longevity. It's hilarious that the faux-Kate-blog-writer says Kate is going out to meet the women who 'seem' interested in her. Have you seen her fans? The majority of them look like extras for "Deliverance". I hope she does sleep-overs at their homes to get the feel of those family dynamics. Bwahahahaha

Anonymous said...

Not sure what' so interesting about an Amish guy building a chicken coop for the Gosselins. I didn't watch any of the 2 specials and certainly won't be watching chicken coop episode.

I'll take a guess that the chickens will be gone after the episode is taken. I mean, Jamie and Kate likes to sleep in. And those Roosters are very annoying.

I know, because my neighbor a few houses down, use to have about 4 of them.

Anonymous said...

I inadvertently went to a local pizza place while they were filming Man vs. Food.

Holy cow!! You would not believe what was involved in a short segment of this half hour show. First of all, there were a lot of people involved in coordinating and filming what was about 10 minutes on television.

There was a lot of moving and setting up with the cameras, lighting and other equipment. There were also still photographers running around. Everybody was being told what to do, where to go and where not to go.

It was all very interesting to watch for a couple of hours but there is no doubt in my mind the kids must get sick of this routine day in and day out.

It wasn't an atmosphere you would want your children around.

Got Ghosts? said...

Will Kate's ghost writer ever be revealed? Come on, Kate, give up the ghost. TLC, do you really believe that we are that stupid as to believe Kate is writing this drivel?

they're laughing at her said...

I was trying to figure out why Kate would agree to have filthy smelly chickens on her property. I mean, are 'homegrown' eggs any better than organic eggs at the store or farmer's market? I'm sure she's following TLC's orders. They probably want to torture her to allow them to film: Kate screeching and making faces about the filth, the kids enjoying themselves while mistreating the chickens, Kate berating the kids about keeping their shoes/clothes clean in a smelly and unsanitary chicken coop, Kate exposing her boobs and dressing inappropriately, the kids endangering the chickens by fighting and screaming around them, etc. TLC doesnt care about Kate the puppet and her kids. They'll try anything to get her to decomprnsate and say and do obnoxious things. Frankly, is the paycheck worth being g made such a fool of?

Save Cara and Mady said...

I think TLC threw Kate a bone by giving her "Twist of Kate". The kids are the ratings draw and TLC knows it, thus the "specials". It's a smart move----more time to promote the shows to tick ratings up. "Twist of Kate", I predict, will only last one season. So the million dollar question is: how long will filming continue of the kids? Nobody has ever answered this. The state of PA and child advocates better light a fire under their behinds because if Gosselin is allowed, those kids will be filmed until they are 18. What needs to happen also is the demise of reality TV and, just like the game shows of decades past, popularity of genre come and go. Unfortunately, it's too late for the Gosselin 8.

Save Cara and Mady said...

I'd like to add that previous posters are correct in that Kate is not writing her blog. It's obvious that the writing style does not correlate with her speach patterns. The blog is a marketing tool by TLC. Only the sheeple believe these are Kate's words. Maybe she comes up with an idea, but someone else is writing the content. I would guess TLC has a dedicated staff to control her branding, and those blogs are part of the marketing department.

heather said...

I fully believe and have from the beginning that there is no Twist of Kate. TLC has dangled the idea that Kate will get her own show in order to keep her in line so that they could resume filming of the kids. Remember, first it was an organic restaurant/farm show, then it was her own talk show, then it was a dating show, then it was an odd jobs show, then it was Kate helping other families (GAG). TLC ain't got much of nothin'.

IF there were a show, what is the EXACT premise? When were they filming? Where are the leaked, PAID , photo ops on radaronline to generate press? Where is the dizzying round of yet more talk shows/People mag covers to promote HER own show? How could she have signed up for DWTS if she were filming her own show?

It's crap. TLC NEVER HAD A SHOW FOR KATE. They KNOW she isn't marketable. They want the kids. They have the kids. It will be delay after delay after delay of *Kate's show*, just long enough to film enough footage for at least 30 episodes of the kids, then TLC will cut Kate loose, WITHOUT EVER AIRING TWIST OF KATE.

Just my 2 cents.

I wonder if Steve will be lurking behind Kate on "Twist of Kate',to keep her from going ballistic or saying something inappropriate to the "fans" she is "helping". Kate does not have the social skills to sustain a relationship, however short, with needy strangers. If it ever airs, "Twist of Kate" will be the most scripted reality show ever...And funny too, if she enlists the illiterate sheeple as her victims for Kate's "assistance"!

What would be even better for Twist of Kate is to let Kate go out there without a script and be herself throwing people under the bus and having tantrums. Now I'd pay to watch her make a complete and utter jackass of herself.

tx mom said...

I agree, I never thought there was a show just for the wench..if there was, she would be busy full-time working on HER show., not making the kids work full-time on a series of 'specials'.
Shame on the father, who said the kids didn't want to be filmed, but when TLC extended his paycheck, he relented and is allowing the kids to work. Both parents are equally despicable.

pa mom too said...

I agree Kelly.... Kate always has a look on her face like something around her stinks to high heaven. And what that "stink" is, is the fact that she's stuck in PA with her kids.

I also have serious doubts about Twisted Kate, wasn't it originally supposed to start in the Spring ? Then once the lawsuit was over and TLC had a grip on the kids again, Twisted gets pushed further and further away. Now it's supposed to be on in the Fall. TLC wants the kids, not Kate.

Not quite. TLC knows it needs a combination of Kate fans and lookie-loos to keep ratings high enough to get big advertising revenue. TLC depends on the curiosity factor to get more viewers. How does TLC keep the curiosity going? Plants pictures of filming something outrageous like Kate getting a chicken coop. The bloggers, who are continually scanning the gossip blogs trying to beat each other out getting the scoop, post the pictures and the free publicity begins for TLC. The speculating begins and people have to tune in to see Kate trudging through chicken sh*t in her high heels, screeching while 6 six year olds carry chickens around by their necks. TLC couldn’t ask for better publicity! More viewers, more advertising revenue, less viewers, less advertising revenue. Pretty basic.

Yet all there is, is silence. There is no show.

Think about the timeframe of when the kids were filmed and how quickly the new episode was aired. And all the pics that were leaked/sold to various media outlets. If they filmed a show, a REAL show for Kate in December, why hasn't it aired? It's been six months.

Yet, SHAZAAM! They got the kids pulled out of school, traveling out of state, infomercial for Discovery Cove all lined up, footage taken to Silver Spring, prepped and edited, advertising sold and

Do you see what I mean? TLC has no intentions, ever, of putting Kate in her own show. And she is just too full of herself to GET IT.

won't try to advertise both at the same time.
K+8 is on during the summer. Let it get a foothold, then start promoting ToK for its fall debut.

mama san,
Thanks for the link. There's some interesting archived articles to be found on it. Actually some of them a pretty funny to read now. I can see how Kate's hobby of begging turned into a full blown scam. But we needn't worry cuz once the donations wear off, Kate's going back to nursing. She said so. This is part of an article from back when these two were just in the embryo stage of grifting (May 6, 2005) :
~~~
The sextuplets eat from a supply of baby food donated by Gerber and they sleep in cribs provided by Delta Enterprises.
A year’s supply of diapers from Giant Food Stores will end soon.
Kate, a registered nurse at Reading Hospital before the sextuplets were born, expects to go back to work eventually.
“I know that reality will set in, and once the donations wear off I know I have to go back to work,” she said. “I’m praying for just one more year. Just until they’re toddlers. I think it would be easier for them.”
Jonathan was out of work much of the past year, and the family also had to bear the death of his father, Dr. Thomas J. Gosselin, a pediatric dentist in Wyomissing. Before Jonathan was hired in January as an information technology specialist in the governor’s office, the family paid many bills with checks sent by well-wishers.
The Gosselins plan to move closer to Harrisburg next summer to cut the cost of Jonathan’s commute. He spends about $300 a month on gasoline. Despite the financial difficulties and months of unemployment, Jonathan said he relished the time at home with his young family.
“I wouldn’t have traded that for a million dollars,” he said.
The comments about Kate's new show are very interesting.
I have a hunch that TLC will film several episodes but *suddenly* they won't have a time slot for it - big surprise - and it will end up on one of the minor Discovery network channels like the ID channel or science channel at like 2 a.m.
I agree, heather, there hasn't been any hype about the show. There was an article in USA Today about her new show that came out around the time that Kate was kicked off of DWTS but that's been it.
I've read in the Gosselin blogosphere that TLC thinks Kate is a joke and they are just biding their time until they can cut ties with Kate. I wonder if Steve is aware of the situation - now wouldn't that be humiliating.
After reading the info at the top of the page about Jackie Coogan, and then scrolling down and seeing Alexis's sad little face, while she has to stand there until they are ready to film again... I don't see how anyone can justify these kids doing this.
Does Kate tell the kids they won't have anything if they don't film the show ? No food, no home, no toys, no clothes, etc and making them feel guilty if they ever put up a fuss over wanting to play instead. How can young children be expected to carry the weight of a family ? This is so sad, so very very sad...
Hey! I've known some really sweet hedgehogs, and even on a bad day their quills didn't look as nasty as that thing on her head.
Hedgehogs are actually very cute little creatures. I doubt Kate was ever very cute. She even bragged about Kevin getting in trouble all the time when they were kids because he would continuously take the blame for the things she did. What the hell kind of a kid was she ? I wonder if she has a 666 under that weave.
Looking at the pics I can't help wondering what it's like for those tiny kids to have giants looming over them everywhere they go. They are reduced to seeing the world from the vantage point of the crew's belt buckles; not to mention all the scary looking wires, booms, microphones etc.
It's hard enough being a little kid, not being able to see over the tops of counters, needing a boost to get a cookie, without making them live in the Land of the Giants.
Then to top it all off with a mother who never bends down to their level, and runs around screaming and pointing; other big people telling them what to do, where to stand, how to play, what to say...
I bet the monsters under their beds are not half as scary as the monsters in their "reality"lives.No wonder they look so cowed and confused!
How do these kids function in a world of giants? Can you imagine what it is like when they go to school and face those giant teachers? Thank goodness my kids don't have people over 5 feet around them.
Heather, that's just "it"...that's the only thing that has been leaked out on T of K. I have to agree, there's probably nothing for Kate. BUT, if that is the case, then TLC knows they can't string Kate along much longer, so are they seriously ready to dump the kids, when they piss Kate off? Nevermind, Kate will suck it up and keep letting the kiddies support her. Jon disgusts me. What a coward.
Jolly green - I think you might have missed the sarcasm in that post. Fi Fi Fo Fum, is a sheeple, popping in to snark for a minute or two. Unfortunately, she doesn't seem to 'get' it that the Gosselin kids have nothing BUT adults around them all day. No friends, no family, no other 'little' people like cousins.
I wonder if the G kids even know or realize, that is not the way typical kids live? You know, like having sleepovers, b'day parties w/friends from school, taking a ballet or gymnastics class, playing soccer or baseball on a team w/their friends, etc. Are they just content for the time being, to have only their siblings to play with?
The only other thing that would make sense--in TLC's logical world devoid of any purpose other than making money--is if TLC and Kate had an arrangement like Kate had with Jon.
That is, "Kate, pretend we have a show for you, go along with it and we will pay you $$XXX. This will explain why we are still hanging around you, putting you in the media, getting you a DWTS gig, trying to keep you name in people's minds." But all the while, TLC was simply waiting to get to the kids again.
Kind of like the "arrangement" Kate and Jon AND TLC had--TLC had to know the truth, I mean they were filming ALL THE TIME-- when Jon and Kate were obviously not together, the marriage was over, yet they ALL kept pretending that the couple was together so the "show could go on."
Just another trashy business deal by TLC. I would believe this setup in a heartbeat.
I so agree with what you said, Ann. These children really have never known what a normal childhood is like. Kate seems oblivious to the future effects this will have when these children get older and eventually go out on their own. It will be a disaster, I'm afraid.
The twins, at least, had somewhat of a normal chldhood up until J&K started shopping their sextuplets out to the highest bidder. Mady and Cara may have problems when they get older, but I have more of an optomistic feeling that they may come out of this a little better off than the tups, once they get away from their mother.
Mady and Cara serve one purpose....to round out the Gosselin 8. Without them it's only one set of multiples. Without them it's only 6. They simply make it more sensational because it's the Gosselin 8--two sets of multiples.
The longer this goes on the more they will rebel. I wonder if TLC has a contingency plan set up if they outright refuse to film at some point. What will they do if a 10-year-old stages a sit in? Drag her to the airport kicking and screaming and put her on a plane to another vacation hot spot?
No, enabling their parents does them no favors. Letting their parents get away with exploiting their children relentlessly and condoning it as "none of our business" does them no favors. Not telling the truth about what is going on here really does them no favors.
Mady and Cara know full well they are only there to be "the twins." To fill the role. You're living in a fantasy world if you think they haven't caught on.
I read once that Cara balked at filming j.k.8 where as mommy Kate took Cara in the house and beat her till she agreed to film. I wonder how often this happens. One can imagine the guilt trips (false) that have been put on the children if they don't film, anywhere from Mommy will lose her job, to no food to eat, no house to live in, no more private school- you'll lose your friends, it will be your fault, etc. along with throwing their father under the bus constantly. Kate likes to twist her words to her favor a lot, but kids aren't stupid or else she's screwing her kids up even more.
Imho, the twins' were Kate's practice run, one has to wonder just how infertile Kate really was....the July 4th parade hometown parade.. ~~~GOSSELIN TWINS~~~ decorated, front and center. Ann Rule or someone really should profile, research, and investigate Miss Kreider.
Animus, anger, frustration, mystification, disgust, whatever it is, or all of the above are clouding your judgment. Children, whoever they are, love their parents and strive for their parent’s love, whatever kind of parents they have. You can speculate what they know and what they understand, but the fact is they’re 9 years old. To discuss their worth in the family goes beyond the pale.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
No, money is clouding Kate and Jon's judgement.
I'm not discussing their worth in the family. Far from it. I'm discussing their worth to their parents' enterprise, THE SHOW. To the show, they are just the twins.
If it were just about the family and not about the almightly dollar, Kate might realize how incredibly smart Mady is and how good she is with her siblings, and how smart Cara is too and athletic and sweet. She might realize they are the treasures of the family. But no it's all about what trip to drag them on next.
Mimi to 3 said...
I'm really in the middle on this one. I do agree with Admin. that Cara and Mady have come to realize their place in the pecking order in that house. But I also agree with The Names the Game that children do love their parents, regardless of whether they are wonderful, caring, loving parents who are involved in all aspects of their lives or whether they are the most unfit, abusive parents in the world. And they definitely strive for their parents love in spite of what kind of parents they are. I knew a girl whose parents adored her older sister and showered her with everything she wanted. The younger sister was constantly trying to gain her parents favor and to this day, as an adult with 2 children of her own, she is still trying to do the same. It is very, very sad.
It is for these reasons that I believe those children should be out of the spotlight and allowed a private life. That's not going to happen however. Kate and her controlling personality are strong than anybody I have ever seen and she will have her way come hell or high water. So what if she destroys her children in the bargain, it's just a price to pay for her fame and money. It is tragic.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
I agree completely children love their parents. I never said the twins don't love their parents. I said they might rebel. Tons of kids rebel and still love their parents.
Believe me children are like puppies loyal to their master--beat them, exploit them, even molest them, children go back to their parents. It is a rare situation for a court of law to order no contact between parents and children. No matter how horrible the abuse, it is almost always more horrible to be separated from the adults who are raising you. I have always said that I don't condone discussing CPS getting involved because it would be worse to place them in foster care than to leave them with Kate. I've said this here more than once.
Why can't they love their parents and work out their rebellions in private is my issue.
Carolina Gal said...
The Names the Game - Did you watch the show the other nite? I watched part of it on another blog just yesterday, and honestly, I don't know how you or anyone could think the twins haven't 'caught on', when they're in FL/Disc. Cove, for the tups THIRD birthday party. Mady asked why they were having another birthday party, she pointed out it wasn't their birthday. Do you think she didn't wonder if her mom was stoopid, with the answer she pulled out of her a$$? Something about the tups being in the hospital all that time...I didn't understand what she was trying to say, but I did get that she was trying to pull the wool over Mady and Cara's eyes. Trust me, Mady and Cara, knew exactly what Kate was doing...and why, I'd bet...give them credit, they're pretty sharp little girls.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
The biggest mistake many dumb adults make, including Kate and Jon, is not giving the children enough credit.
Remember when they got divorced? Mady said, well I can't say as I'm all that surprised. The child was only 8 then and she saw right through the charade.
Kids are NOT stupid. Kids KNOW what is going on. When you treat them like little doggies and kitties just skipping along playing and going to school and they have no need to know or participate in what is really going on, you patronize them. Do not patronize kids they are not stupid!
I remember as a 10 year old being very angry my mother didn't tell me my uncle was sick and dying until close to the end. Don't presume that I should be "protected" from bad news, or that I shouldn't be included in what is going on in the family because I'm just a child. And yes, I knew anyway.
LisaNH said...
I guess why I thought I feel more optomistic about Care and Mady when they grow up is because of the fact that they did have normal childhoods at one point their lives. Also, they knew their grandparents and other family members more that tups did.
But again, from reading some of the comments here I also agree that they have been rejected and pushed into the background and that will make their growing years more difficult because they will carry those feelings with them into adulthood. Those poor kids; all 8 of them.
The Names the Game said...
I firmly believe that statements should be well thought out and tempered when bringing the children into these discussions, keeping in mind that they may read them some day. Whether they understand the intent of the statement or not, they do and will have enough to deal with, without blogsful of people talking about them in ways they can construe and negative. Yes TLC and Kate brought them into all this. That doesn't mean we, strangers and merely spectators, can't use good judgment and be considerate of their feelings.
I don't see any comments here that are hurtful to the kids. I see people concerned for the twins and how they are being treated. In fact the vast majority of the comments here since the premiere are about how much Mady is suffering, how concerned they are for her, and how intelligent and bright she is. I don't see how worrying that a child isn't being given the life of privacy she deserves is negative.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
What's in a Name, what was said that is so offensive to you? Does it scare you that Mady might actually be very damaged from what is happening to her? Who is labeling the kids? It's the scary Kate fans who have called Mady things I would never breathe about a child. Jodi said school has been torture for her because she's the "bad one."
So when Kate says Collin is "stubborn but kind", Mady is her "free spirit" and all those other labels that used to be in the credits (but were cut out after a few years, hmmm wonder why), that's not labeling?
These kids have been labeled since day one, they are CHARACTERS for a show because TLC and Kate and Jon made them that way. They are all labeled as the Gosselin 6 or the Gosselin 8, like they are a freak circus show (see my graphic above with the tiger) and not CHILDREN. The people I see here are actually concerned there might be more to them than those labels and wish that they could break free of their stupid SHOW and be normal kids.
LisaNH said...
Admin, I very much agree with you that children love their parents, no matter how they are treated. This reminds of Christina Crawford. After the book and movie came about "Mommie Dearest" she was asked in an interview if she loved her mother. Her reply was "Of course I loved my mother."
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
That is why in the field of law a child is often a very unreliable witness if you want them to testify against someone they love, particularily a parent. Kids will do whatever they need to in order to defend their parent. No matter what that parent did, kids have a natural instinct to cover for them. It's really amazing.
And that's why when kids allegedly say they want to keep filming (even though Jon said they don't), they're not reliable--kids say what needs to be said to make their parents happy.
Names, if Mady and Cara run across this some day, they will know people saw through their mother and knew what she was doing to them. Those two little girls are very intelligent and for Kate to continually shove them aside because she thinks the sextuplets are the stars of the show, is wrong in so many ways. Kate is the one who needs to open her eyes and see that what she is doing, is NOT doing them any favors. We are on the sidelines watching, but she is raising them. Regardless of the kids sticking by their mother through thick and thin, why does this have to be happening ? And someday, those girls are going to turn on her . They are not going to be 10 yrs old forever. As for the little kids, I would bet money that Kate belittles the boys, just like she did with Jon. And IMO, only one of the little girls may follow in Kate's footsteps and stick by her no matter what.
In scratching my head trying to figure out why this is "labeling" the kids or "not doing them any favors" I feel compelled to say.....I intended this statement, and I thought this was obvious, as how Kate/Jon/TLC view the twins because this is how I think the show has marginalized the kids. It's certainly not how I feel about the twins. I don't personally think they only serve one purpose, far from it--I've made it very clear dozens of times I think they're great. But to the SHOW, they have one purpose, to be the twins. Thought that was obvious.
The Names the Game said...
What is offensive to me is the statement that they "serve one purpose." I don't think that is something a child should see/read/hear no matter how it might later be justified.
Yes, the children have been labeled from the very beginning. Because of that we can continue to do so? I don't agree.
The Names the Game said...
For any of you who think that the children may come across blogs such as these, and think there were complete strangers out there that cared for them, and had their mother and TLC figured out, etc., etc., that is pure speculation.
I can as easily speculate that they may find it all to be very creepy and even scary that strangers were so involved in their lives and felt they knew the children so well that they could define their purpose. It's very possible.
Rationalize it any way you want. Speculate that they'll be grateful for all that's been said about them and their parents. That won't make it so.
The Names the Game said...
Administrator said... I feel compelled to say.....I intended this statement, and I thought this was obvious, as how Kate/Jon/TLC view the twins because this is how I think the show has marginalized the kids.
A child may not be sophisticated enough to ferret out that nuance.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Or maybe the twins might find it creepy that the Kate lovers can't wait to see the kids again and live for the show and are sad when Jon tries to stop filming. Collin already said he doesn't like the paparazzi taking pictures of him. Maybe they don't WANT people obsessed with them. Maybe THAT is creepy to them.
I doubt the twins are weeding through 100s of comments to find one little comment about them and then to take it the wrong way when they are perfectly bright and smart to understand what is being said. Here's a thought, maybe their parents should be home with them making sure they are not googling Gosselin sites and obsessively reading them to find every last comment about them. Or I don't know, stop allowing them to be filmed and photographed so they can go back to a normal life. If they didn't do Kate Plus 8, guess what, we would never know that Mady said "I'll just die". And we never would have worried endlessly about that. All Kate's fault, as usual.
We're not going to stop talking about our concerns about the kids because it "might" hurt their feelings. The Labor Dept. got involved because people dared to speak up. Even though ultimatly nothing came of it, it's never a bad thing to speak out about an injustice. People who are scared of change or don't want to think anything is wrong or feel guilty themselves are those telling us to shut up. Speculation the kids "might" read it is not going to stop it. The kids also might read about all their father's affairs plastered all over radaronline. They also might read Hailey's tweets. They might also read all the private information about them Kate has written in her book and to People about how they've handled the divorce. They might read about how Kate herself called Mady a LIAR in her book. No one here calls Mady a liar. Nope, that's her own mother.
Linda in NS said...
Kate has labelled the kids from the very start. She called Aiden their little scientist if I remember correctly. She called one of the little girls mommy's helper, Collin stubborn, Cara the athlete, Mady the "bad" one, etc. Kate and only Kate has labelled those children.
Mady and Cara appear to be extremely intelligent children. I think they've figured their mom out and exactly where they don't stand in Kate's pecking order. I think it is so sad that we never hear about any of the children visiting their friends homes playing with them.
Kate says the kids are playing and she is working, hmmmm, I think she has that backwards. The reality is the kids are working and Kate is playing in front of the cameras.
Take those children off television and let them live lives as close to normal as they possibly can at this stage of their lives.
I'm sorry, but what I am seeing from your comments are reasons to blame bloggers more than the people who are truly at fault. Do the kids ever look happy to you when they are with Kate, with or without the filming ? I can speculate and say they are not happy because they do not look like happy children. Kate about died when Jon stopped the show. I would venture to guess that it was the most devastating moment of her life. ahh, boo hoo, it was over too soon. Too soon for what ? Too soon to stop labeling the children to the public ? Too soon to stop showing the children's very personal moments ? Too soon to allow them to have private lives ? Or too soon to stop her money train ? What was Kate more concerned over ?...her children or the money ? Your speculations are as good as mine. Kate is the one who wants to continue this, she is the one who who needs to stop what she is doing. No one would be talking about Kate or the kids if she had allowed the show to end.
The sad part about these kids if they have split 15% eight ways, that is $25,000 a year, each. Considering that they are the draw for the show and how much they have to work, that is peanuts. They should be getting 500K and their parents should split 200K.
If these money amounts are for one year (one season) and they are correct, then the kids are not getting $25,000 each. They are getting $3,750 each. The kids have to split 15% of $200,000 8 ways. And if it wasn't for these newest laws, they wouldn't have to split anything because nothing would have to be put in trust for them. It's a sad and very messed up situation.
the 'twist' show might have a few scenes 'in the can', as they say, but once they strong-armed jon, he relented and tlc has ownership of the kids again...that's who they want..and kate is the fodder. what a fool.
"Thank goodness my kids don't have people over 5 feet around them."
LOL!! Aren't ALL children, who live with adults every day of their lives, surrounded by giants, unless, of course, they are five feet tall by the time they enter Kindergarten!
I really don't get why they insist on getting photographed out front. It does add to speculation about what the next K+8 episode will be, but it doesn't necessarily inspire people to watch. If anything, it makes people mock them more. Don't they have a pool? Can't the kids go swimming and play in their crooked houses while they are on vacation? It's just not fun watching the kids anymore. I did watch early in the game until I could no longer stomach the way Kate treated Jon and everyone else so disrectfully and dismissively, but the premise of the show has outlived its usefulness or profitability. For the sake of those kids and their privacy, I wish they'd give it up.
I wonder who is keeping track of those hours.
hahahahaha. Kate saying this is something she had been planning and wish for -- Twist of Kate. This was never in Kate's mind. This is pure TLC trying to keep her in the public eye.
And the give away that she is not writing that blog. The sign off -- It's a beautiful day!. Kate doesn't talk that way. She doesn't think that way. Sheesh sheeple, get a life.
"Now I'd pay to watch her make a complete and utter jackass of herself."
Nope. Not my words. Linda in NS wrote that, to which I responded by saying that she's been doing this on the show for years. These darn quotes...it does get a bit confusing after awhile, doesn't it? LOL!
