Recap: Kate Plus 8 "Cleaning House": In Memory of Golly Gee

I'm so close to finishing all the still outstanding recaps I can taste it! Your next offering is Cleaning House, 42 minutes of the typical yelling and screaming and watching such an incredible amount of excess "stuff" I have a burning desire to just go live in a tiny house and get away from this despicable consumerism.

In all my years following this show, this is one of the few times Kate looks genuinely pretty to me. Her hair is a toned down blond, straight but with some body, her makeup muted, and she's dressed in a cozy grey sweater, albeit it cut a little tight. She looks her age, but not in a bad way. She is capable of looking very classy, pleasant and approachable, but she usually misses the mark by a mile.

Seemingly out of the blue, at least the way the kids seem to paint it, Kate wants them to clean out the entire house and sort out what can go to a yard sale. Only a few kids are around, and most are complaining about this task. Did they get a warning? Were there parameters set up? Because an open-ended project like this would naturally set even the most obedient of children off.

Oh my god the crap these children have! Plastic, plastic, plastic everywhere, four or five of everything. Doll houses, toy guns, books galore. Enough toys to cover a basement floor. It's insanity. I bet none of these toys got played with more than 20 minutes in their lifetime.

Kylie Jenner, I mean Mady, says something somewhat profound for a teenager, in that when you get rid of your old stuff, all you do is just replace it with new stuff. Now your new stuff is your old stuff, and you'll be getting rid of that too soon, so you might as well just hang onto your old stuff. I think she should expand on this idea and write it in an essay. It would make a good senior thesis. I'm serious. Consumerism and excess are one of the biggest black holes of modern life, and it's getting worse by the year. I'm somewhat proud of Mady for noticing at her young age.

Hannah, Alexis and Mady are being the biggest babies of all the kids about this. Whining and whining about how today was supposed to be Shoka's birthday cake, not cleaning the basement, and Kate promised this would be fun and it's not. While it's annoying Kate seems to have sprung this project on them without warning, their unchecked snotty attitudes about it are completely unacceptable, but instead of just laying down the law, Kate in typical fashion engages with them, which just makes the whining worse. They have eight capable people here, if they would all just shush and get down to business even with all the crap everywhere, I bet they could finish up this clean-out in under 60 minutes, maybe less. A project like this would take all day with only two or three kids handling it, so there are some great advantages of having a whole lot of kids in your family when projects like this come along. In many instances, you should be doing way less work than an average sized family, which is a nice perk.

Joel put a bunch of books I guess they're holding onto on a bookshelf, only he stacks them facing out, one on top of the other, instead of vertically so you can see their titles.

This incident is a glimpse at the very mean streak Kate has, and the potential long-term damage it could do to kids. Instead of just asking him nicely to restack the books correctly, she pulls them all out dramatically in a big messy pile, and then condescendingly asks Joel how he sees books stacked in a library and does the way he stacked them look like the library? I'm sure Joel knew exactly what he was doing and was just doing something dumb like kids tend to do, there is no reason to make him feel badly about it. Why not laugh about it, share a giggle between mother and son over a funny brain fart, instead of making him feel badly about himself? Joel's chagrined quiet little, 'I guess you're right,' says everything about how Kate spoke to him made him feel.

There's an incredibly long segment about baking a birthday cake and wrapping presents for Shoka. I don't know why these dogs are so boring to me. I think because we've never seen or heard about them doing anything but standing there being a dog. Also, they make Kate's Instagram even more boring than it already is.

The screaming and arguing these kids are doing, almost always from the girls, is utterly unacceptable and near constant, and Kate does nothing at all to try to stop it. Eventually after what feels like hours Kate intervenes and requires complete silence. Well, sheesh the solution to kids bickering and hollering is not total silence. Good grief. How about, speak to each other with respect and with our inside voices?

Kate tries to show off for the cameras and goes to spontaneously hug Cara as they're just hanging out in the kitchen. Cara, as expected, blows Kate off. Kate, you're not that family.
By the way, everyone should see Lady Bird. I saw it opening weekend and was riveted by the real and raw dialogue. An imperfect daughter and a really imperfect mother navigate the daughter's senior year of high school into going away to college. It's like Boyhood only with girls and mostly unlikable characters. You have to be okay with watching a movie where you really don't much like anyone, but if you can get past that, you will be rewarded.

I've seen all the contenders for best picture this year, and that film deserves its spot in the crowd, though it won't win. Three Billboards should win, but The Shape of Water will win.

In a surprisingly revealing conversation, the children say on the couch that they really don't hug Kate much, maybe just at bedtime. Only Aaden admits perhaps he might hug her if she's going away, or if he's on his way to school. Right, because, no surprise Kate likely doesn't derive much from that kind of tactile and loving touch so she doesn't bother to give it to her children even if they would benefit. It'd be interesting to hear what a child psychologist would say about this, but it seems to me only one hug a day is very much on the low side for the kind of physical touch a child needs, though probably matters more when they're younger. Which begs the question how far back does this one-hug-a-day rationing go? Because if you've got a four-year-old whose only touch from a parent all day is one hug at night, that is very, very concerning. There's been a lot of interesting studies on this, with hugging and positive touching directly linked to a child's normal development. Researchers have found a huge boost to a child's normal development once they get a good 20 minutes a day of hugs, and loving, appropriate touching (like cuddling up together and sharing a book or talking). One hug at bed time is likely not going to cut it.

The kids want to try the dog cake because that's just how kids are. Hehe, the boys love it, and Kate jokes they'll eat anything. It looks like the girls are spitting it out though. Blech.

I'm just about the biggest dog lover on the planet, but this segment is mind-numbing. And what's pretty funny about the whole thing is Shoka is barely in it! He only appears at the end, outside of course, to collect his cake. Where was he this whole time, chained up to the barn? Sadly that's not a joke. I will never understand people who keep "outdoor" dogs. It makes no sense to me. I'd sooner understand an "outdoor" child you never let inside except maybe on special occasions, and even then only in the laundry room or basement. Huh?

Kate spins a tall tale about how she's always loved and looked after animals. Even once nursing baby squirrels back to health with a bottle. Heh, and I got a bridge to sell ya! A true animal or dog lover is unlikely to go dog-less for the years and years she did. I think she got the dogs because it was a good episode idea, TLC was paying, and it helps pad her instagram. More than likely, she screamed her head off and ran away when she saw a nest of baby squirrels. She then says and she's always looking after babies. What does babies have to do with being an animal lover? Sometimes her throw away comments are so telling, in that she's actually equating a human being to something like a squirrel. Point being, babies, even children, I think she processes more like cute objects, or a lesser species, not human beings. This would be typical narcissistic behavior, there is no normal bond with offspring. Oh, they can put on a hell of a good show engaging with their little successors, but there is no "there" there.

Very tellingly, the long segment ends when it's dark out, Kate goes back inside, shuts the front door, and Shoka remains outside to wander around in the dark all by himself on his birthday. I hate her. That is all.

Why does she do this? The same weekend they're sorting out the entire house, Kate planned Many and Cara's birthday party. There is something wrong with her. I think she purposely over schedules herself to cause stress and get attention and sympathy and perhaps even to watch the kids fall into a tailspin. There's no other reason to do something so ridiculous.

The family arrives at Skyzone for the party, which is basically a big indoor trampoline gym. We have these here and I've been there though haven't really participated. These sort of indoor fun zones were just becoming popular when I was a kid, popping up on every corner, and there was an amazing one called Adventure Quest near where I lived that was just awesome. It had everything from cargo nets and tunnels to a zip line. I tried to find it online to see if it's still around, but no such luck. They can be on the expensive side, but they often run deal days or have coupons, and they are simply a blast and also a good safe workout for kids. I think this was a good choice that pleases both ages of the kids.

I find it so interesting to watch these episodes through the lens of Collin is "dead." Here he rolls up to Skyzone separate from the family, Kate explaining he was with a friend that weekend. I find that odd since it seems the kids so rarely go off on their own like that. Weekends are for crowding on the floor in her bedroom I gather. But sure enough there he is with two apparently younger friends, both girls incidentally. The thought crossed my mind ten is probably pushing it to be interested in having sleepovers with girls or for most parents to find it appropriate, so that's interesting. He has a huge smile on his face and immediately runs to Mady and gives her a big bear hug. Nothing about this interaction seems strange or off, he just seems like such a normal kid with normal bonds with a favorite sibling. As I've said a hundred times, the idea he is so disturbed he needs to be banished from the family home for years now is simply impossible to believe. It's getting to the point where I refuse to believe it, and rather firmly believe it's Kate who can't or won't handle him, not Collin himself who can't be handled by the average decent parent. In other words, it's Kate, not him.

Mady and Collin have been favorites of each other since his toddlerhood, and we don't talk enough about how removal of one sibling from the home damages the other siblings left behind. Mady puts on a tough exterior and would likely never admit this, but she is being robbed of her relationship with Collin, the shared experiences and growing-up memories are being actively stolen from her. The damage to her as well could be irreparable.

On a side note, I think it's very interesting, and wonderful, that in California, they have such respect for the nature of sibling relationships that they have even carved out a rare exception to adoption based on sibling bonds. In other words, if one sibling is about to be adopted by a family and another sibling they are bonded with isn't (that second sibling might be living with another family, or perhaps a parent, or is too old to want to be adopted, etc.), the siblings can assert a "sibling exception" and get a judge to deny the adoption on the grounds that it is not in the best interest of the siblings and their close ties. Granted, it is a hard burden to prove, but at least a statement in the law has been made about sibling relationships.

Kate says doing a birthday party at a place like this is not her thing but this is what the twins wanted, and that's why she did it, because she no longer has control over how things will be. They are fourteen years old! It seems to me any kid old enough to speak is old enough to have some say in his birthday party, within reason. It's their party. It's supposed to be about their birthday, not the parents' ego or desires. Yeesh!

Why are Kate and her girls, left boobie and rightie, front and center bouncing away? Go away, it's not your party. Go stand with the other uncool parents and butt out.

Mady says Kate sometimes writes them off as "teenagers" to which Mady explains she's often acting like she is not because she's being a teenager but because Kate is being unfair. I buy that. We've seen Kate do many things to the kids that are fundamentally unfair, and being a teen has nothing to do with the greater point. So, rock on, Mady.

It's annoying the way Kate exaggerates. They had just done the "world's most stressfulist" (the f?) construction on the house. She's clearly never done some real work to a house. All they did was move around some bedrooms, painted some walls and barely did any decorating at all to make a bedroom a bedroom. What a martyr.

This episode is really another disorganized hodgepodge of random stuff. None of these little stories have anything to do with the other, which is lazy writing. The quality of post-production on this series took a massive dive once it became just Kate Plus 8. It really is like they didn't care anymore, and were just making filler to kill time and collect a pay check. Now the family is at a studio, doing a photoshoot. Kate says most families do periodic photoshoots like them. Um, I would venture to say that's not true at all. Many families can't afford periodic photoshoots, at least not real ones. Most photoshoots in a studio as they have done are very expensive. Even doing them at JCPenney isn't the cheapest thing to blow your money on. I would venture to say many families just take photos of the family with their phone and be done with it, which again puts her very out of touch with the real world.

They have an entire rack of clothes set up for different outfit changes, which is a dead giveaway this is a production photoshoot of some kind. Could Kate just be honest and say this is an official TLC (or some other official) photoshoot that's wrapped up in production's overhead, and not something she arranged and paid for? What nerve she has talking about the expensive things she thinks many families do when she likely isn't paying a dime out of pocket for this.

The little Dionnes are pros at this, especially the boys, who just get on with it and get this over with. Why is Kate the only one I can hear directing this whole thing? She has no idea what she's talking about. She's posing them awkwardly and most of the photos are terrible and unoriginal.

Predictably, Kate is starting to lose it and is yelling and snapping at the kids over stupid things. The only thing worse than a boring photoshoot is your mom nagging you on a boring photoshoot. Why is everyone else in the room hidden from camera? We never see even a glimpse of the photographer, and the part where Kate looks at the photos on a computer make it look like she's talking to a ghost when clearly she's talking either to a photographer or editor. The only person on camera has their face blurred. That is so odd, why would the photographers not want to be part of this? I can't even speculate the reasons for this strange situation!

There's some interesting little details to notice in the extraneous filler shots they show while Kate is blah blahing on the couch. In one, one of the boys has what appears to be a gift bag and is holding a large box, which from a distance looks like maybe a Lego set. What was that, the bribe for all this? Also in the background is some chick packing up craft services. Lots of waters and some foil dishes. So, this was clearly not a one- or two-hour event but rather warranted a full meal or at least a big snack. Sigh.

Kate heads to a local radio station to promote the yard sale. Oh that's totally a normal thing to do, go on the radio as a guest to peddle your old crappy junk. Heh. Kate knows the station from when she was on it to promote a 5k she ran in some years back, back when running was still shiny and interested her. Now Running's gone off to the black hole, taken off its tennis shoes and found a seat right between Aunt Jodie and Beth. Get comfortable, Running.

Kate laments that her biggest 1 percent problem is she has so much stuff it's filled her mansion to the brim and now she must get rid of it. Poor thing!

The yard sale money will go to the Animal Rescue League. Kate tells a story that is alarmingly short on details, that Shoka jumped the fence and so ARL found him and kept him overnight, and she didn't worry about him because they were looking after him.

So....many...questions! How did Shoka jump the fence and why? Was he bored, restless? Where was the rest of the family when this happened? Did this happen at night, or why else would they keep him overnight? Do you not bring your damn dog inside at night even, you shrew? And if she didn't worry about him, is she implying she knew ARL had him but she waited until the next day to get him? Next time he's going to get hit by a car before he's "rescued." What is her plan to ensure this never happens again? This story is such insanity for anyone who has even a shred of compassion toward animals.

Nothing happens over the next five minutes except Kate complaining how much she has to do to get ready for this yard sale, which will be an outdoor sale at what looks like a park. Why aren't they doing this at the family home like normal people? They have plenty of space for it. Having it off site just makes everything so much harder. Oh, lord, please do not ever buy or sell old car seats. It's incredibly dangerous and in some circumstances illegal, such if they've ever been in a crash no matter how small. Throw them out.

Collin, who has proven to be an absolute sweetheart and one of the most likable of all these children, happily stacks books, remarking that he's excited as he's never done a yard sale before. He has a perpetual good sense of humor and positive attitude, in the face of an incredible amount of negativity around him. He is a good kid, and this long absence that is still not over will forever be disturbing to many viewers.

The editors kill some time by showing clips of old Halloween episodes, which they loosely tie into some Halloween decorations they are dumping. Heh, that was a stretch. I often picture these poor editors in their dark editing bays, putting these episodes together and coming up with a run time of maybe 35, 38 minutes .... and saying to themselves, all righty, we've got 6-8 more minutes we've got to come up with somehow, now what?

You can just guess the kind of sound bytes Kate offers about this thing. She felt prepared but unprepared, exhausted but knew she had to go through with it. She should just tape these little soliloquies and play them over and over for anything she is asked to talk about, it's always the same generic drivel.

Kate goes over to the garage sale site so early it's still dark out. Given this is summer in the northeast, that must have been very early. Mercifully, she let the kids stay home and sleep longer with "someone" staying home with them. Someone? I.e. the nanny? Why not just say the nanny? Good grief.

Kate's pissed Cara is selling some sort of magazine or poster Kate got for her last year from England. Imported from England? Geez, that's not spoiled at all. That's such a great example, ask the kids to give up things they still may have some attachment to and do it with a great attitude but when Kate doesn't want to let something go, she is permitted to stomp and hold her breath. Silly double standard. After all this getting up early, there is little organization or order to the tables, it's all just piles of junk. Wonder if any of Jon's old stuff made the cut.

There are a lot of people lined up to buy their piles of junk. The whole family, especially Kate, seems so very impressed and flattered by this turnout, but garage sale people are pretty intense that I've seen, you might find a line like this at any sale of this size, doesn't matter if the family is famous. Tip: call your garage sale an "estate sale" and your turnout will double. Semantics. I've stopped by garage sales if there's one within walking distance in the neighborhood and if I'm not there as soon as it opens, there's likely nothing good left. (That's why I prefer the app OfferUp for second hand stuff I'm interested in. If I want something and the seller commits to selling it to me, we can work out me picking it up any time. I don't have to be there at 7 a.m.)

Just to make things really hard, they also are selling baked goods and other foods too. It's highly unlikely such a thing like this is permitted on this scale without a permit, but Kate is not one to think of anything like that because she's stupid. They also have a grab bag stand, for 2 bucks you get a brown paper bag of most likely crap. Permits and other regulations aside to sell things like this, I do like the way this involves the kids and gets them engaged and excited about this event. It is probably boring for a kid to stand around watching the adults sell off old blenders and party decorations. The kids love it.

"How much for everything?" a young woman asks, who dolled herself up early and big time for her on camera debut. Hair curled and the whole nine yards. She had a line, so I say give that gal a SAG card. Garage sale people. How much for it all is not an uncommon question with that strange lot.

What's the point of post-production blurring some of the info on the yard sale sign? The sale is already over with. Not like you need to protect the location or something. Weird.

I think Kate is right, and I hate saying that, that it's just easier not to price anything. If people want something, have them suggest a fair price and be done with it. Makes it faster and easier. Plus it's for charity, so it's kind of like, whatever you want to give, 20 bucks or whatever, and take a few items you think are fair to take for that. Kate tends to make things overly complicated, so this no-price hassle free sale is out of character.

Twenty-five bucks plus a selfie with Kate, one gentleman offers for the crap he has collected. Mister, that is quite a bargain. Back in the day at speaking engagements those photos were a pretty penny plus you were expected to contribute to the "donation basket" being passed around so the family could keep their electricity on, and you didn't get any garage sale items with it.

You know how when you become a teenager suddenly your parents' jokes sound really stupid and Mom and Dad become just overall embarrassing? That's Kate, only you don't have to be a teenager to find her jokes so dumb and the woman embarrassing. I just want to cover my eyes when I watch her interact with the general public. But, I give her a tiny bit of credit for being upbeat throughout this sale and engaging with each and every buyer as they approach her, trying to have a bit of a conversation with them, at least from what we can tell. She must have been mentally exhausted but she did it.

Kate pats herself on the back again for donating to this dog shelter, plus, helping the needy, she practically says. She is so perched atop her throne, heh. You don't have to be poor to go to a garage sale! Is that what she thinks this demographic is? Some people just like a good bargain. Some people believe in reusing as much as possible before ever buying new. Some people think it's just fun to look through other people's stuff for treasure. I'm all of that and that's why I often buy used things (though as I said, usually through other venues like OfferUp). Some of these people are also here to get on camera, like 5 a.m. hair-curl chick, and quite frankly there's probably a few lookie loos who just want to see Kate and the whole TLC spectacle. Fair enough. There's nothing wrong with shopping at garage sales because you can't afford things otherwise of course and many people do, but for Kate to think that her garage sale is such a wonderful gift she bestowed on the poor and needy of Wernersville is just hilarious, since there is no evidence that's who attended.

I think it's funny that Kate has no idea how she sounds. She was shocked to meet so many good wonderful people at the sale. Who does Kate think usually attends yard sales for pity sake, murderers and rapists? Somebody's gonna turn up missing after this and be found in a shallow grave six weeks later? Sheesh! I'm glad to hear the commoners so impressed her with their decorum and generally clean criminal backgrounds.

"Do you remember me?" a woman says in a kind of creepy way, real quiet-like. "Your girls are beautiful," she goes on to say breathily. I think this woman just has a naturally breathy voice, but it sounds like the beginning of a bad horror movie. It's Kelly, an old coworker. Despite the breathy voice, she seems really sweet. Kelly seems to have a kid there exactly the younger kids' age--huh. And Kate says she lives nearby. Why not get together with this woman? Make friends with her, and the girls can make friends with her daughter. This was a golden opportunity to exchange numbers and rekindle something that would benefit everyone, but Kate being Kate not only doesn't think of it but I don't think even wants to. Kind of sad.

Kate is so unbelievably shocked to run into people she knows at this sale. If she got out more, she would realize that most people run into people they know all the time, especially in smaller towns but even in big ones. In the town I grew up in it would be rare not to see someone you know when you leave the house. In Los Angeles, I see someone I know out and about probably every other week. Even in a city that size.

I'm not sure who Kate is trying to convince here emphasizing how supportive everyone is and how kind to them and how much they love them. Like, I don't expect people to come to your garage sale and be rude and start engaging you in a moral debate over exploiting your children on television. That would just be odd and inappropriate in front of the children. This was a yard sale, not a meet and greet, and I would expect most people to come and buy something and leave like normal polite people. This sampling in no way represents the general public opinion about how these children have grown up, nor does it prove all her neighbors love her and have no issue with her (contrary to various reports especially from back at the house before this one) so I don't know who Kate is trying to fool.

They made just over $1100 for the animal rescue charity. I think that's pretty good for one morning, and it will certainly be a help to a fine charity. Well done, Wernersville.

In memory of Golly Gee, whose thoughtful perspective and steadfast optimism has been a treasured part of this blog. We toast you, Golly.

Read here often how dogs should always be in the house at night and just wanted to say that all dogs do not want to be in the house. Working farm dogs, we had border collies, usually will stay in the barn or near the animals they work. Ours could be enticed into the kitchen with food, my kids did this occasionally, but when the food was gone he would be at the door ready to return to work in the barn. We loved him and cried when he died at fourteen, but he never was a house dog.

Great recap. Interesting to see things after a few years.

This has nothing to do with the recap, but...it's only 8 months til Mady and Cara turn 18. Just around the corner. I wonder how Kate is going to deal with the loss of complete control ("I'm in control and that's never going to change"). Well, guess what? It's about to change. What if Cara decides she doesn't want to film, and Kate can't legally sign a contract for her and make her work? Both Mady and Cara can decide that they will film, but they want their own salaries and perks (reducing the amount Kate gets). They won't have to continue to split 15% with the younger kids. If things get difficult at home (and they will if the twins exert their independence) they could demand the money they have earned from all the years of filming and leave.

Admin, maybe you can weight in--if the twins demand the money from their trusts at age 18, can Kate keep it from them? I know if parents set up trusts for their kids they can set certain ages for the kids to get their money. But Cara and Mady have worked. They earned this money--it wasn't just given to them by their mother. Can they take her to court and get control of their money since they earned it? I definitely think Kate will try to use that money to control the twins. Use it as "currency", just like their iPhones. But can she legally do that?

"Mady and Collin have been favorites of each other since his toddlerhood." Very true. Let's not forget it was Mady who comforted Collin when his mother threatened to throw out his beloved bear so long ago. I know sometimes Mady can seem spoiled and ungrateful and lippy, but I do believe there's a sweet side to her as well.

My gosh, I'm kind of losing track, it seems like all of these tabs just take bits and pieces of each others' articles and slice and splice them together. To the point where nothing reads sensibly or even necessarily coherently. Witness the above link. With no clear when many of these comments were made, it's clear no new interviews were done for this piece. Old photos, old comments---but there must be a reason why they're coming out now. Any second now . . . just wait for it. Mother G is the font of all this crap.

I remember this episode well. A lot was packed into it. I thought it highlighted Collin's helpful manner and efficient ways of packing and moving the items for the yard sale.He apparently cleaned the shed all by himself. It also showed the tups girls dynamics; H and L were calling Alexis an animal and crazy. Leah freaked out over a dress to wear for the photoshoot. The boys did seem laid-back and Collin was eager to get ready first... The kids did a lot of complaining about their mother and yes, those were bribes...TFW said "Leah, I want to reward you' when she was having her meltdown. Giving kids expensive toys to agree to a photoshoot? This was not like the one when they were small kids wearing sweaters in the heat. I thought the girls came across as very spoiled and argumentative.

Admin, thanks for a new recap.

I mentioned Golly Gee in the last topic. But, since this one is in honor of her, I wanted to say anther good bye.

I hope Golly knows how she influenced me to think of a new charity. I did a few Christmas Shoeboxes this year. After YEARS of her encouragement!! I chose the boy 7-9 because they said it was the least popular category. I rose to the challenge to find "good stuff" that fit inside a regular woman's shoebox. I thanked Golly for turning me on to such a well-run charity effort.

I hope she knows that I will do this every Christmas from now on and always think of her.

We miss you, Golly Gee! She touched so many people, and inspired us all to be better people and to do for others.

The Inquisitr article is just rehashing the 17th birthday pic of Mady and Cara, claiming that when Kate said they had a limited amount of time at home, that meant she would be kicking them out. It "sets the record straight" and then rehashes the same information about their future plans that was printed in InTouch yesterday. Hmmm, Mady wants to write a memoir about her time "growing up Gosselin". Well, that's sure to be a best-seller. Not. Even her mother can't sell a book anymore. ANd that phrase--"Growing up Gosselin"--we've heard that before. I'm thinking they are dropping hints for a new show with that name. It's hard to sell Kate Plus 8 when there are no longer 8. They must think they can re-name it and suddenly it will be a hit because there's no more reference to "8". Sorry, guys, you had your second chance to "hit it out of the ballpark", and you failed. I think Kate is pushing these recent stories to try to get someone to film them. She's desperate to get her cameras back.

I remember Jon showing up in this episode to pick up some of the kids and I thought he bought some stuff. Maybe I’m remembering the show and an article from a magazine.

Jon was not on camera that I saw but here is him at the airport talking about attending the garage sale. He said his kids invited him and that he was fine with Kate (rudely) selling HIS stuff without asking. This is a guy who is perfectly capable of co parenting if only Kate would step up to the plate. I'm also sorry to hear about Golly Gee. I remember her post about asking to be able to take a minute to see the full moon while in transit from one facility to another.
That has stayed with me and I don't see a full moon without remembering her and her circumstances.
Perhaps this is the time to say that there other posters past and present who have given something to think about. Witty, touching, useful, strange, friendly somethings. All worth knowing even when I disagree (respectfully, rule #3)

Admin, you had a link in the recap for a story about how much Johnny Weir disliked Kate. He says that he met her at an ice skating event and she was rude to everyone. I remember reading about her going to some event (I think it was the one he was talking about) and she demanded a limousine instead of being picked up by a mom in an SUV. She was rude and nasty to everyone, and Steve blocked off the women's bathroom just for her. Anyone else remember that story? She was so full of herself! I can't imagine anyone being so nasty to the people around her. Even if you think you're really something special (she obviously did), it takes so little effort to be gracious and kind. I'm sure there were plenty of people present who would have been thrilled to get a simple smile or a kind word from her. Instead she treated them like dirt. You just don't treat people that way.

She was totally nasty and full of herself, but I think that's one of the few times I defended her. She didn't know that person, had no idea of that person's driving record, nor the insurance held, and I wouldn't have gone with a stranger either, For all Kate knew, it could have been a stalker or obsessed fan.

I get the part about not wanting to get into a car with a stranger, but demanding a limo on short notice? Really? I'd like to see her try to pull that crap these days. It's that obnoxious, entitled attitude that is the most irritating. It takes so little effort to be gracious and kind--even if you have to fake it--and it would mean so much to the people who used to adore her. Instead she chose to treat people like crap. Even if you truly believe you're superior to everyone else, you can at least fake it for a few hours. She might still have a large following if she hadn't treated people so badly. If she isn't a big draw anymore, if she doesn't get the red carpet treatment--it's her own fault. She had it all, and she blew it because she couldn't hide her contempt for other people. It's all on her.

Formerly Duped said...

From what I remember and heard, she didn't demand a limo. A Town Car with a vetted driver was scheduled to pick her up (delayed by something...traffic?) and she felt uncomfortable going in a car with someone she didn't know, I can understand that.

Check out this article:
www.eonline.com/news/146596/kate=gosselin-on-ice-a-true-diva-show
Sorry, I can't make it click-able.
It has the whole story of Kate's behavior at the skating event, and of her diva behavior. She first wants a car service to drive her and Steve from Washington to Danbury, CT. They sent one of the moms instead--and informed Kate and Steve in advance. After driving 5 hours to get there, Steve told her that, even though they had been notified in advance about their transportation, Kate would not be getting in and instead required a stretch limo with a divider.
Once they arrived she demanded a side entrance with no crowds where she could be driven right up to the door, and required 5 people to escort her to her dressing room. She refused to be in any photographs that included any of the Real Housewives who were present, and when Nikki Blonski tried to get to the stage, Steve blocked her. When Jill Zarin tried to say hello, Steve blocked her too. Even though Kate was supposed to attend the whole event and the after party, she basically gave a one-minute speech and then left. And I bet she charged them her going rate ($25,000 back then wasn't it?) to attend. Insane.

Reminds me of when I saw her at the Baltimore Book Fair. She had Steve in front of her booth, keeping the fans from approaching her, while she sat there and stared off into space. Once they had bought one of her cookbooks and she signed them, she wanted nothing more to do with them.

Sorry Milo, it’s not a “gotcha” shot, it’s totally posed. If you look closely you’ll see the hand holding her muzzle in that position and you can see the arm in the background keeping her from rolling over.

---------------

I wonder if that's why Milo doesn't want to meet her. She's afraid that Kate will ignore her, dismiss her as a lowly fan and not want to hang out with her. That would totally destroy Milo, and so she's happy worshiping Kate from afar and pretending that they are best friends, that birds suddenly appear when Kate is near, no matter if it's only on social media. It's really pathetic. Milo has gotten so grumpy, and verbally aggressive when non-fans suggest that they meet. There must be a reason for that.

"Now, while the birds thus sing a joyous song, And while the young lambs bound
As to the tabor's sound,
To me alone there came a thought of grief:
A timely utterance gave that thought relief,
And I again am strong:

...Then sing, ye birds, sing, sing a joyous song!
And let the young lambs bound
As to the tabor's sound!
We in thought will join your throng,
Ye that pipe and ye that play,
Ye that through your hearts to-day
Feel the gladness of the May!

...Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind."

I don't think Golly if she were here would mind me sharing details about her accident. The way she described it, her knee was caught in a depression in the mattress, which was a gel mattress, and the side of the bed. She apparently didn't realize the angle it was caught in or how hard it was wedged in and went to yank it out without even looking at it, and somehow torqued it just right and she said she felt like her knee exploded. The doctors told her there was little they could do for the injury, for whatever their reasons for that.

What a shame a rather freak accident may have taken her out. Reminds me of Chris Reeve. After surviving the impossible times 100, a little bed sore gets him.

I always thought of her little corner of the porch as sort of the one rather oddly decorated. Maybe with a whole lot of flashing xmas lights at xmas, and some flamingos. The whole time you're thinking oh lord I wish she would use just one less string of lights....and then all the lights go dark and you realize how much you missed them.

She was for the most part treated with acceptance here certainly by all the regulars, and that was a very good thing.

She mentioned the town. I knew it well. I got the rogue idea that I would order the burger and fries and have them delivered to her as a surprise. The restaurant phone number was easy to find.

As I recall there were 4 or 5 care facilities in her town. I called each one of them asking if she was a patient.

I think it was a nice idea. Can anyone say HIPPA? My plan shipwrecked on the shore of patient confidentially.

Alexander Polinski is giving a press conference about the abuse he and Nicole Eggert suffered at the hands of Scott Baio during filming of "Charles in Charge". He is asking that everyone call their elected representatives to ask for greater safeguards for "working youths". He says there is not enough protection for children working in the entertainment industry. He also talks about the tremendous burden they carry, trying to keep a show and an image alive for the viewing audience. If only more people would listen to his message. If only people would stop and think about the real children and not just the entertainment they bring to our TV and movie screens. Sadly, there are still so many parents lined up (Kate, I'm talking about you, among others) to place that enormous burden on their children for their own selfish gains.

If only adults in the entertainment industry truly cared about what they are doing to these kids. The burdens they are placing on young shoulders. The public scrutiny they are inviting into the lives of adolescents. The loss of privacy. Sadly, these childhoods are for sale, and a big house and private school will never make up for what has been taken from them. Sadly, underperforming children are discarded (Collin), along with everyone who expresses concern for exploited kids. Kids become commodities. It makes you wonder how many child performers have stories similar to Alexander and Nicole's, but all the public sees is a staged smile for the cameras. I think we'll be hearing a lot more stories like this in the future. The most positive result of the "MeToo" movement is the fact that children now have a voice.

First, feel better! The flu is always miserable, but streaming shows on tv really helps sooth and make the down time rather tolerable.
I'm getting over a really bad cold and have spent several days in the house, snuggling with the dogs and sitting on my couch watching streaming tv and Olympics.
As as now, we're in the bulls eye of the snow on Sat. Usually, we're not, but as of right now, we might see several inches.
Chances are improving for a good thump of snow.

In the meantime, it'll be around 70 degrees for a couple days!

I don't know if you were around here back then, but somewhere around 2013 BV was going to file a class-action lawsuit against Kate haters and we were all supposed to go to jail. I think he really believed we'd all be terrified and run away crying, but instead we all laughed at him and the ridiculous sheeple who spent all their time predicting our downfall. It was funny for us--and kind of sad for the gullible sheeple. They really believed that they would win lots of money and get to watch all the "haters" be arrested and hauled off in handcuffs to serve our lengthy sentences. BV and his pals deserve every it of misery and embarrassment they got out of that spectacle.

Of the many stupid, stupid things Kate has done, becoming a "spokesperson" for that lot has to have been the stupidest. One browse through that web site and his twitter should have been a huge red flag that was an irresponsible pairing. And what that said to me was the woman had judgement issues. Major, major judgement issues.

Ugh, what an awful Valentine's Day this is turning out to be! DH called this morning about shots being fired outside his workplace, which made my hair stand on end. What if he was going through the access gate at the same time the shooting occurred? Luckily nobody was killed. Then we get the news of this horrible school shooting in Florida, which is terrifying for all parents. At least 17 families sent their children off to school this morning and will never see them again. A sad, sobering day all around.

In Eastern NC, we had a very cold January and snow that lasted for days which is unusual for us. It was part of that system that made Florida so cold. But February has been more like an average winter for us, more mild. Normally I complain we don't get snow, but we got it this year. The other day we got up to 77 degrees.

@Layla No,i wasn't around when BV did those things.I started coming on this website in 2015.I do remember reading the Bullyville and Kate story when it first came out on Radar.People were calling Kate crazy for outing people for not liking her.I've herd stories about which side started it since Kate fans claimed haters outed them. But then Bullyville went full dictator and wanted to ban any blog that criticize Kate and went after people that had nothing to do with the haters on that other blog.I'll be honest and say i'm glad i deleted my twitter because i personally made enemies with some of the haters on there for suggesting that they took some hate on fans that had nothing to do with Bullyville to far but they took it the wrong way and made it seem like i was defending the fans that wanted to out all haters.

I think that might be the incident which happened this morning in my general area. Glad he's OK.
Scary.

The Florida shooter was especially evil in that he pulled the fire alarm to get his targets out of safer spaces.

Yes, I think you're in our general area. What's scary is that you're stuck in lanes and you can't get out of them if someone decides to start shooting. You're a sitting duck.

The FL shooter apparently put his hands up when he was done shooting and tried to just walk out like the other students. Someone must have called him on it. It's being reported that this is the 18th school shooting this year, and the year is only 6 weeks old. What are we coming to?

There's a very simple locking mechanism you can install on doors that pops down to bolt it with the flip of a switch and only law enforcement has the key to unlock it. We installed this on dozens of doors at work, and it has made me feel so much safer. I walk by them every day and breathe a sigh. We work with so many mentally ill and on very contentious matters, and are at high risk for someone to become violent. The door is not a guarantee you will survive an attack but it sure as hell could have saved a lot of lives in other attacks. Schools really need to start considering things like that. We also now do mass shooting training given by law enforcement which gives you tips and tools for survival, some of which seem counter intuitive (RUN--don't shelter in place unless it's clearly unsafe to run or unless you can shelter in place behind a fortified door like what we have), which is why it's so important to be trained.

This guy was completely crazy, his social media accounts reflect that. People on reddit are saying that several times before he has threatened students. The school did the right thing by expelling him, and although perhaps criminal charges could have been filed, the school doesn't have very much control over that. He was a ticking time bomb and was going to come to that school eventually and attack people even if he did it with his bare hands.

I'm not exactly sure why they suddenly changed the way they are reporting the stats, perhaps because of the gun control agenda. But the 18th school shooting is counting ANY gun going off at school and hurting someone. That includes if you only injured one person, and it includes incidents which resulted in no fatalities. Shootings on school campuses are not all that uncommon in bad neighborhoods and this has been going on for decades. Some stupid 17 year old kid may go after his ex's boyfriend, his marijuana hook up who didnt' deliver, etc. It's often domestic disputes. The ones I take more of an interest in are the ones involving shooters who are only doing so because they are mentally ill, because I think we're missing the ball in a huge way on dealing with and treating these young men with mental illness. In other words, 2018 is not an unusually violent year, despite the stats.

That being said, I don't think a shooting of minor children whether it's one child, whether it occurs in a good or bad neighborhood, the victim was killed or just injured, or was a mass shooting at a predominantly white school should be treated any different. They all are of a concern.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Case in point the school shooting in L.A. last week that got a lot of attention then fizzled.

It turns out it was a 12 year old girl who made a STUPID, STUPID decision to bring a gun to school and it went off in her backpack and seriously injured a little boy.

She never wanted to hurt anyone, she never aimed the gun at that boy intentionally, she is not a mass shooter, is not mentally ill. She will have to live with the terrible guilt of hurting him. The whole incident is horrifying and preventable, but I think it's completely unfair to lump that incident into "school shootings" and call that kid a school shooter, rather than labeling it what it is: "terrible freak accidents." It could have happened at her house, the point is a little kid grabbed a gun, probably from her negligent parents, and big surprise, somebody got hurt.

Nothing suddenly changed. The 18 count comes from Everytown for Gun Safety and they have used the same criteria since 2013. And they actually also count guns fired that did not result in injuries. You can disagree with how they are defining "school shooting" but to state that the reporting suddenly changed is flat-out wrong. 2nd Amendment zealot agenda, perhaps?

&&&

I didn't say the stat collection methods have changed, I specifically stated it's the REPORTING of the stats that has changed. I.e. the media using it to promote their agenda. They are digging up stats that haven't really changed much in any given year and using it to raise alarm bells, conveniently leaving out that most of these 18 shootings were run of the mill domestic disputes at inner city schools. Not a GOOD thing to happen at school, but not a terribly unusual thing either. It's misleading, period. If you want to accomplish something legislatively, at least do so honestly. The accidental shooting by a 12 year old girl in L.A. is lumped into that 18 shootings--that is grossly unfair, especially to that poor girl who made one stupid mistake that resulted in something horrific, as kids tend to do.

The same thing happened with "mass shooting" stats, which I believe is defined at 3, possibly even 2 or more shootings. It includes gang shootings, etc. The reporting of those stats was incredibly dishonest and misleading, implying that it was all a bunch of rogue Columbine shootings at schools when it fact most of them were gangs on gangs or general crime. Again, not a GOOD thing, but indisputably not the same thing as a random act of violence against people just minding their own business.

I'm actually quite in support of a variety of gun control proposals, I never have carried a gun, touched a gun, nor ever will. A variety of people offered to help me obtain a legal weapon after a trespasser came on my property (she told me she owned my home, and demanded I leave) a few months ago when I was home alone-- I declined, instead opting to lock my doors, stay inside, and call the police. A few weeks later I had security cameras installed, that's how I dealt with THAT. Stats indeed show that a huge majority of 2nd amendment proponents are actually just fine with curtailing certain people's access to certain guns (another misleading report, that anyone that is not part of the gun control lobby is against ALL regulations--FALSE).

The question remains, when will we finally address the serious mental health crisis facing young adults in this country? Why wasn't that man, whose name I refuse to say, locked up for his violent threats against children?

He is a security guard, always has been. That is so not the same thing as being a PR rep. I don't know how any of this ever ends. Evil is evil and people like this shooter who want to do harm are going to figure out a way to do it. The shooter reportedly legally bought the gun, the school was locked and he knew to pull the fire alarm to get everyone outside and then starts shooting. How do you prevent that?! His social media had questionable things on that would raise a red flag but can he be arrested for that? It was reported that he was not allowed on school grounds with a backpack when he was enrolled at the school. Then he was expelled for disciplinary reasons. He can be reported to the police but unless he commits a crime, he can't be arrested. What else do you do? No one ever thinks it can happen in their community but it's been proven time and again that it can. Unfortunately, evil is everywhere.

How dare they use a family’s personal tragedy with suicide to imply that student was violent or a mass shooter and to lie to the public to bolster their argument about safety. Those poor families. Yes, Bent Creek. We've spent the last decade in an area where the houses are too close together. It makes me feel claustrophobic. We want some space! I'd like to look out my window and NOT see anyone for a change. Nottingham looked perfect, but of course the house we liked sold very quickly. It was restored beautifully, and on acreage, surrounded by woods. Apparently someone else was looking for the same thing we were and found it first. Darn.

Wegman's Nutty Cone ice cream sounds amazing. I tried the crab-stuffed salmon, and it was excellent. So were the crab cakes and guacamole. I'll be heading up that way tonight, so I'll have to grab some ice cream while I'm there. There were so many things I wanted to try--I'll get a few each time I'm there so we can spread them out over time.

Where was your outrage when Trump revoked the Obama regulation making it more difficult for people receiving SSI due to mental illness to buy guns?

$$$

You are a terrible fact checker and might want to brush up on exactly what trump got rid of, since that regulation was opposed by many democrats including the far-far left ACLU. The reason being was because it excluded all people with mental ***disabilities*** (not the same thing as mental Illness, or didn’t you know?) from gun ownership including mostly non violent people. For instance those with Down syndrome or CP who are almost universally non violent would be prohibited from owning any guns. The aclu felt that was grossly unfair and saw nothing wrong with the young man from Nebraska with Down syndrome or CP being able to continue to hunt rabbits with his father like he has always done. Trump did the right thing on that and the aclu backed him up. Surely you are not suggesting anyone with a mental illness or disability is violent and shouldn’t be around weapons. If so you are very ignorant and frankly prejudiced.

Again you refuse to answer the question, why is no one outraged the fbi didn’t pull this psychopath off the streets? They had specific information he was threatening a school shooting!

https://www.aclu.org/blog/disability-rights/gun-control-laws-should-be-fair

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

White House, because it "could endanger the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens." He did not oppose it because he was worried about someone with Down Syndrome being able to kill rabbits. It's the NRA lobby at work, nothing more, nothing less.

$$$

But that IS what protecting the rights of the mentally handicapped is! They ARE LAW ABIDING citizens and for you to lump them in with the violent and mentally ill is ignorant at best prejudiced at worst. Most people don’t want guns taken away from those who are responsible, including those with Down syndrome, except you fringe groups. You are not the only voice here or by far the majority. Your knowledge of the bill shows a gross misunderstanding of what ds and other similar disabilities are. Sad.

It sounds like you should complain to your heroes the ACLU about this one, since they were the ones begging Trump not to do this. Begging him. If that’s not bipartisan to appease their request I don’t know what is.

Mental Illness / mental disabilities.
If the difference is meaningful, they could have changed the word in the law so that people with mental illness cannot purchase guns. But to your point, I'm not sure a man with Downs, IQ of maybe 70, should own a gun. He can hunt rabbits with his dad using a gun his dad legally owns.
As to the FBI, exactly what should we do with a person who comments on a social media site "I want to be a professional school shooter" . That was their information. Comments and pictures on social media sites. He made no specific threat. He owned the AR 15, the magazines of bullets, the smoke pellets, etc., legally. He stored the gun in a locked safe. There was nothing the FBI could have done. He committed no crime until he killed 17 people and the heart of a community.
To say that people with mental health issues should be pulled off the streets, (your words) , but be allowed to own multiple firearms, assault rifles, is bizarre.

There was nothing the FBI could have done. He committed no crime until he killed 17 people and the heart of a community.
To say that people with mental health issues should be pulled off the streets, (your words) , but be allowed to own multiple firearms, assault rifles, is bizarre.

If the difference is meaningful, they could have changed the word in the law so that people with mental illness cannot purchase guns. But to your point, I'm not sure a man with Downs, IQ of maybe 70, should own a gun. He can hunt rabbits with his dad using a gun his dad legally owns.

&&&&

It depends on the person. Some people with downs are extremely high functioning, graduating with their class and obtaining normal jobs. Why should his choice to be a responsible gun owner be taken away from him? Why is he lumped into with the psychopaths? That's CRUEL.

There are no incidents of school shootings involving someone with DS. They are extremely unlikely to be violent. Even less likely than the average person--DS tends to present as passive, and very loving. It is a known trait of the disabilty.

My understanding is the stat is from 2018, but reading more about it I now see it includes suicides too!! Good lord. Obviously young suicides are a terrible concern, but to try to lump those incidents in with mass shootings as if they are one and the same is manipulative and downright dishonest.
^^^^^^
Do you have a link for this, please?
Thanks!

&&&

Yes here it is. Less than half of those 18 incidents ever involved someone getting hurt. The rest nobody got hurt. And two of them were suicides with no intent whatsoever to hurt somebody else but themselves. They are also including COLLEGE shootings, which adds in a whole othe potential for domestic disputes between adults that sometimes involves violence, this has happened all the time for a hundred years. How sick is our media that they make no bones about lying about this? They really just don't care anymore to tell the truth, do they.

https://everytownresearch.org/school-shootings/5837/

How awful fo the parents of suicide victims to have their children used to stand in the place of mass shooters, or for the victim of domestic violence to suddenly be thought of as a "school" shooting victim when she really needs the support of a DV victims suppot group or therapy. That's really dispicable. How dare people.

For Admin re: school shooting statistics. Even the WaPo is throwing a flag on Everytown's "statistics" which have been relied upon heavily to mislead the public.

"No, there haven’t been 18 school shootings in 2018. That number is flat wrong."

"Everytown has long inflated its total by including incidents of gunfire that are not really school shootings. Take, for example, what it counted as the year’s first: On the afternoon of Jan. 3, a 31-year-old man who had parked outside a Michigan elementary school called police to say he was armed and suicidal. Several hours later, he killed himself. The school, however, had been closed for seven months. There were no teachers. There were no students.
Also listed on the organization’s site is an incident from Jan. 20, when at 1 a.m. a man was shot at a sorority event on the campus of Wake Forest University. A week later, as a basketball game was being played at a Michigan high school, someone fired several rounds from a gun in the parking lot. No one was injured, and it was past 8 p.m., well after classes had ended for the day, but Everytown still labeled it a school shooting.
Everytown explains on its website that it defines a school shooting as “any time a firearm discharges a live round inside a school building or on a school campus or grounds...."

Good job Washington Post. Thank you for telling the truth.

If we are going to institute sensible gun control the least we can do is make sure we are being honest about the whole damn situation.

Haha, FactCheck. You suck at fact checking.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

It's not about being VIOLENT. It's about having the mental capacity to fully comprehend what a gun can do. For example, if you can't differentiate between a toy gun and a real gun and think you can "pretend shoot" someone, you damn well shouldn't have a gun. And not all individuals with DS have the ability to make that distinction.

&&&

That is a totally separate issue! You're confusing the issue. We're talking about how to ban VIOLENT people from having guns. Not whether any one non-violent individual is good with a trigger. I have no idea who is good with a trigger and who is not. He doesn't mean he goes and shoots up a school.

Some DS folks may be able to have a gun, some might not. I have no idea, it depends on the person. But I'm not about to ban them ALL. That is the very heart of what prejudice is, judging everyone on one stereotype. Trump was right to say a big fat NO to that, deal with it.

Heck, some WOMEN may have no business having a gun, including me. Does that mean all women should not have guns? Stop it, and stop fact checking, because you keep stinking at it.

They DID investigate it.

"Special Agent Rob Lasky, in charge of the FBI’s Miami division, confirmed during a Thursday morning news conference the agency investigated a comment made on a YouTube video in September that matched the remark reported by vlogger Ben Bennight. After conducting database reviews, however, the FBI said it could not identify the user who made the comment.

"No other information was included in the comment which would indicate a particular time, location or the true identity of the person who posted the comment," the FBI said in a subsequent statement."

"Bennight, a Mississippi bail bondsman who goes by the name “Ben The Bondsman” on YouTube and social media, said in a new video posted Wednesday he immediately reported the threatening comment to YouTube and contacted the FBI. Bennight also included a screenshot of the comment

“Well, the next day I had two FBI agents standing in my office, taking down the information, taking copies of the screenshots and asking me questions that, of course, I couldn’t answer. All it was on my channel was a comment,” Bennight said.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/02/15/nikolas-cruz-school-shooter-comment-reported-to-fbi-months-ago-vlogger-says.html

Do you really think a restraining order would've prevented him from going to this school and killing and wounding all those people? Really?

"Damn!! I really want to go to that school to kill those people. But gee, I have a restraining order not to go there, so I'm can't do it."

&&&

Welp, having worked on hundreds of cases with restraining orders, yes indeed, they do have a very high success rate of stopping violence. Not 100 percent, but certainly higher with no order in hand.

Why not TRY it? What's the harm in trying it?

A restraining order does more than let the perp no not to go there. Authorities on campus have the order and his picture, and know to look out for him. Cops tend to respond quicker when you call in on a R.O. The whole campus is generally on a much higher alert and awareness, which all goes to prevention.

Ironically, you have used the same argument the anti-gun control people use without realizing it. Whoops. They say, what's the point in gun control? Do you really think someone like him will follow the law about guns? (He probably won't, but what if he DOES?)

To that I say, what's the harm in TRYING these protective measures? What's the harm in trying a R.O. when someone is a psychopath? The worst that can happen has already happened. Now, we will never know. And someone bears responsibilty for not pursuing these measures.

The problem with Trouble and most younger kids' games is there is absolutely NO strategy to it, or at best, minimal strategic moves you can make. At that stage it's just about a kid understanding how various game rules work and to develop an understanding of games in general. At their much older ages, their development calls for much more. They are well ready for complex card games and board games like backgammon and chess, and games that require more critical thinking like Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble.

It's just stupid to dick around with Trouble and does nothing to help them in any way, she is so lazy.

That is a pathetic "investigation". A simple subpoena to Youtube, a Google company, requesting the name and contact for that user and IP, which you are required to provide when you sign up, would have taken them directly to the gunman. He was using his real name for gosh sakes!! It wasn't like "supertrooper21" was posting. But, even if he were, you could get his contact info too.

Google gets these subpoenas all the time and most of the time has no problem cooperating. Good lord. I stand by my comment, they threw this referral in the trash.

KFI found the young man who is the hero who reported the youtube comment. He is distraught, flabbergasted, gobsmacked. To him I say you are a hero, and one of the few people with their hands clean in this whole mess. He TRIED, when few others would even TRY.

I have literally never seen a school shooter have THIS much of a violent footprint. The Newton shooter was nuts, but even he didn't lay this clear of a framework down, like breadcrumbs. If we can't even begin to stop someone with a blaring neon sign on his forehead saying I'm about to shoot up a school, I have no idea why we think gun control will do one damn bit of good either. These tired mantras are such a joke. We had all the tools we needed to stop this man available to us and we didn't. What a catastrophic screw up.

But gun control may have prevented a dealer from selling him the gun in the first place. In FL, you have to be 21 to buy a handgun and are subject to a 3 day waiting period. You only have to be 18 in order to purchase an AR15 and there is NO waiting period.

&&&

But, I agree. He can still get a gun though, even though it will be harder-someone even said it would be as easy as someone getting it from their dad. But you said there is no point to a restraining order because he will just violate it. Or he won't, because he would then know people are on high alert to keep him away or he goes to jail. It would be HARDER to trespass with a restraining order.

You used the same "that won't work" argument anti-gun control people use and got caught doing so. Pretty funny, in a sad way.

Bottom line is "they will just violate the law" may often be true, it is not a reason to not have a law. Do we not put murder laws on the books just because people will violate them? Same goes for R.O.'s.

"They will just violate the R.O." is never a reason to not issue a R.O. NEVER.

It is beyond my comprehension why people would be against trying the many legal mechanisms that are already ARE IN PLACE, there, ready to be used? In addition to other ideas not yet on the books. Why not attack this from all angles? Why poo poo very solid mechanisms already on the books to help these situations? Is the gun control lobby really this much of a one track mind? Seems pretty ridiculous.

This stuff is not rocket science. If you see something, say something. But then when you do say something, the authorities must act.

Here's everything that went RIGHT this week in foiling another massacre. God bless the grandmother and local law enforcement for taking this plot down. And they did it all without new gun control legislation, shocking:

"A woman in Everett, Washington, was looking through her grandson's journal Monday night when she found something that would forever change her view of him.

"I'm preparing myself for the school shooting," he wrote, investigators said.
"I can't wait. My aim has gotten much more accurate ... I can't wait to walk into that class and blow all those f****** away."
The next morning, she called police. By that evening, authorities said, her grandson was in jail on attempted murder charges.
Based on his recent journal entries, police believe Joshua O'Connor was planning to shoot students at ACES Alternative High School, which he attended in Everett. And his grandmother is being hailed for potentially sparing the school from a tragedy like the shooting one day later at a high school in Florida."

1. Suspend or expel that student
2. Obtain a restraining order for the school

4. Hold an IEP to discuss intensive out of school services such as therapy, psychological evaluations and medication. When and if it’s ever safe for him to return to school provide one on One aides for him full time.

FBI admits it didn’t investigate tip on alleged school shooter last month

https://nypost.com/2018/02/16/fbi-failed-to-investigate-tip-on-school-shooter-last-month/

The FBI was warned last month that Nikolas Cruz was an armed psycho who might shoot up a school — but it didn’t bother investigating, the agency admitted Friday.

“A person close to” Cruz called the agency’s tipline on Jan. 5 and reported the 19-year-old had a “desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts” and there was “potential of him conducting a school shooting,” the FBI said in a statement.

But the agency said it failed to pass on any of that information to its Miami field office, even thought its own protocols say he “should have been assessed as a potential threat to life.”

A little over a month later, on Wednesday, Cruz allegedly gunned down 17 people at his former high school.

Frustrating right? The local authorities also refused to act when they had plenty to involuntarily commit him like his mother reporting his self harming behaviors. They didn’t. Had they, it would have made him ineligible to purchase a firearm under existing Florida law. So there ya go.

This new legislation outcry is a joke. We can’t even enforce the many laws already on the books that are perfectly capable of keeping us safe. Sounds like what we are in much more critical need of is better training of law enforcement to handle psychopaths when they present themselves.

I don't understand why Kate (and her followers) think she's competitive. She's only that way when she's competing against young kids and knows she can't lose. As far as REAL competitiveness--say, conquering something or trying to do something as well as (or better than) anyone other than a child--she curls up in a ball and screams and cries. I would call my DS #3 competitive (they all are to some extent, but he is even more so than the others). He throws himself into everything and wants to be the best at it. Crying and melting down is not an option. Competing with young children to make sure he wins just wouldn't cut it. Fortunately he is also gracious whether he wins or loses. Kate? Not so much.

Some, no matter how well-loved, healthy and well fed, will even eat their own poo, garbage, dead animals and whatever else grabs their attention. Who knows what her dogs get into since they run free on the property.

What happened to feather child Zorro who kissed and nuzzled the entire family, the beloved birdie who accompanied Kate to the toilet and rarely spent time in his "huge palace of a cage"? Is he no longer the golden pet?

I don’t understand how mandating background checks for gun purchases, infringes on anyone’s “right” to own a gun. Why is there such a backlash to this from the gun zealots? Seriously trying to understand this. If you are a law abiding citizen, why would anyone be opposed to this?
Mental health is a major issue as well. I just find it ironic that the people who are shouting the loudest that this is not about guns, but mental health, don’t support even basic healthcare for everyone. It’s actually laughable - so mental health assistance will be there, but if you have a physical illness you’re not assured of treatment, or even preventive care?

According to TMZ, Brandi Glanville said, "some of the women on 'The Apprentice' got down with the boss". Also, "Omarosa says she didn't have to".

There are already an incredible amount of free for the taking services for youth through their school districts, everything from therapy to aides to in home services to intensive psychological services to even FREE out of home care like Collin. I have speculated here many a time Kate is only keeping that boy out of the home by using the school district to pay for it. She's not about to shell out of pocket.

All free. All available. I could go on and on about the services available to troubled youth. Even horseback riding therapy. All free!

N.C, I don't want to say his name, could have easily been linked to a whole host of services throughout his school years. The Newton shooter was. Of course even after more than a decade of mental health treatment he still went nuts, and that's where I am full support of incarcerating the violently mentally ill. Take them out of the game.

By the same token, I am quite baffled about people who shout the loudest about taking away people's rights to guns, yet seem to have some big problem with taking away someone's right to be free by incarcerating them or putting a mental health hold on them. Don't let him have a gun, but god forbid we take someone deranged and violent off the streets and away from our kids.

Based on what we know of the 39 911 calls and other behaviors, N.C. should have been placed on a mental health hold, period. This would have disqualified him from ever owning a gun under preexisting laws.

There are many laws on the books that could have prevented this tragedy, but all the laws in the world don't matter if we can't even enforce what we already have. What good does tighter gun control do for mental illness and what have you if we refuse to say someone IS mentally ill and pull them out of the game?

I'm not sure if she's just naive, immature, dumb, or so far up Kate's butt that she can't see anything except what's lurking up there. I think the creepiest thing she ever asked Kate was which child needed new undies. That was scary. Then, of course, there was the photo of the mating butterflies, the dogs dressed up in pantyhose and her obsession with Grow-A-Boyfriend. Ew. She's just plain weird.

Remember the time Shoka ate a dead animal--hair, teeth, bones, and all--and then threw it back up on a throw rug? Hmmm, maybe Kate and the kids just didn't love him enough back then.

Funny how Milo seems to have forgotten that Collin ever existed. That may be because C's situation doesn't fit into her perfect-mommy view of Kate. Or maybe Milo is embarrassed because back when C was banished, she insisted that he was just gone temporarily to get some help and would soon be returning to his loving mother. Even Milo has to admit that 2 years isn't temporary and there is no reason to believe that he will be returning any time soon.

Woo hoo, California is writing a bill to tighten up on homeschool. It's going to require annual IN HOME inspections. Too bad if they don't like it!

I don’t think people’s rights to own a gun should be taken away, but there should be safeguards (ie: background checks for all purchases). How does this prevent someone’s right to own a gun? They will still have the freedom to protect themselves, if they are law abiding. It’s just common sense - no one is trying to take people’s guns away at all. That’s the rallying cry of the NRA - if you can’t get immediate gratification by walking into a store and buying a military grade weapon, your “god-given” rights are being infringed upon.
I really do think that most Americans agree with this - the problem is the ppl in the government who rely upon big $$$’s from the NRA, to fund their campaigns.

I agree that if someone is mentally ill, and could be violent, they should be isolated from the rest of society. As a civilized society, we need rules like these to ensure the safety of all.

It’s a complicated issue. The aftermath of these events are horrible. The division it creates is horrible.

You know, it used to really bother and anger me to see all of these things happen. After the Las Vegas massacre, I kind of had a light bulb moment, and finally understood how important this right is to Americans. I didn’t really get it before. Just like war, there is a price to pay for freedom. In a way, it’s impressive that people feel so deeply about their country’s constitution, and are steadfast in their beliefs. I truly mean that.

Just as an aside, and somewhat related - I do believe in God, but how come he only gave these rights to Americans? I guess he forgot about the rest of the world? It’s always something that makes me chuckle - kind of a chicken and the egg thing.
