Recap: Kate Plus 8 "Treehouse & Chicks": I hope no one comes down with aviation flu

Still catching up on a few old recaps, and now I'm up to Treehouse & Chicks, which for reference, first aired in August 2011.

Coming up on the problems of the one percent, the treehouse builders are coming at the same exact time as the chicken people. How will the family cope with such a jam packed day? (As we find out later Kate scheduled them to come on purpose, thus intentionally setting up this incredible drama.)

In my day, we built a treehouse with Dad and Uncle Dave, a couple hammers and some scrap lumber. You didn't contract it out like you might a family home.

I like looking on the bright side of these episodes, and the bright side of this one is this was back when the episodes were the correct length, only 20 minutes long. That's all the nothingness of these episodes that they require. Pushing them out to 42 minutes as they've done in later seasons is not only ridiculous but may have led to the declining ratings. This episode pulled in just a hair over a million in ratings, which is more than can be said for many of the episodes that came later. Though incidentally, this was one of the final episodes that aired just before this showed was first "cancelled."

Kate makes some reference to the chicks never hatching and that's why the kids wanted chicks. I vaguely remember an incubator in one of the episodes, and I found my recap about it here.  Why did those eggs abort anyway? It doesn't appear Kate explained why in the incubator episode, at least not according to my recap. Apparently she just said they never hatched. But there is no reason a good percentage should not hatch as long as you follow directions and give the eggs the proper temperature and rotation. Things that make you wonder the extent of Kate's negligence on a day-to-day basis.

It's 2011, so it's the heyday of Kate's tanning and botox. She's an unnatural muddy shade of brown, and in fact the twins look very dark too, way darker than they appear today. I wouldn't put it past Kate to take her 10-year-olds tanning, too.

Kate admits she hadn't thought at all about how to lay out the coop in the barn. Ashley appears out of nowhere and thank God she's here. She has sense. It takes her all of ten seconds to come up with a layout that works.

I don't understand what the treehouse has to do with setting up a chicken coop. But some builders show up and start scouting the property for a suitable tree. I can't understand half what the sextuplets are saying. They're not that little, but they do not make any effort to articulate at all, and often speak in obnoxious sing-song tones. No one corrects them. They're seven, not three. I don't remember them being like that, but it's annoying. They acted like babies far too long and some still do sometimes.

Ashley and the kids help clear out the barn. Kate mostly supervises and complains. I count her taking out one plastic bin and that was about it. Ashley flips on a switch apparently connected to an old radio and static comes on. For some reason Kate and Ashley find this absolutely hysterical and haunted-house like. The radio is cool, I would have asked Kate if I could have it. It's just going to end up in a bin of junk somewhere on Kate's watch anyway. Kate passes out brooms and supervises sweeping.

I am hyper alert to how Collin behaves and what is said about how he is, in light of him being gone from the family home for how long now? Collin seems very engaged with this project and enjoying it. He appears to be working hard, and Kate remarks that he was "on task." There are really no signs the boy was struggling in any way, socially or otherwise.

So apparently they already have the outdoor coop set up, and I guess this will be their indoor coop or are they ditching the outdoor one? They either never explain or I missed it. It's very annoying to watch a reality show and be confused about what is going on, even if you don't like the show.

Anyhow, the poop bin in the outdoor coop is so covered in feces they can barely get it open. This family should not be allowed to have animals if they are going to abuse them. Negligence is abuse, by the way. Never cleaning up an animal's feces from their living area is abuse, make no mistake. If they can't be bothered to clear out the poop once in awhile, is it a case where they can't be bothered to change the water dish and put out some feed? Sheesh. And I also think one can make a reasonable inference that if one cannot even properly take care of a small chicken coop, one is probably not very good at taking care of three dogs or any other living thing.

Meanwhile in a totally unrelated story, some contractors are building the children a treehouse that rivals Punky Brewster's. The foreman is talking about actual construction stuff.

Ads! University of Phoenix has been doing a big advertising push lately. Once in awhile a series of commercials come along that are just a really good short piece of cinema, and that's University of Phoenix. They are telling people's stories of their life and education at the college in short but moving bursts. I'm unclear if these are true stories or just made up melodrama, but they're good. I especially like the one about the child who endured bombings in Europe in World War II eventually to emigrate to the United States, in search of safety, work and the dream that her future children and grandchildren could make something of themselves too. Her future generations indeed have the world at their fingertips thanks to Grandma's education at the University of Phoenix. Big tear!

There's another one that's really good too about a single mom who adapts to the hurdles life throws at her and supports the family. Well done.

What's amazing about this schmuck Kate is that she admits that it was on her summer to do list to clean out the chicken coop. Um, that should be on your daily chore list, you animal abuser. Someone call animal control. Sometimes her idiocy is funny, and sometimes, like this time, it's downright blood boiling because it's hurting other people or animals.

Kate explains, with a straight face mind you, she scheduled the coop and the tree housing building on the same day because they'll be down there on that area of the property anyway. Oh goodness, that's smart. One would not want to have to walk down there twice! Sometimes I really cannot believe she hears herself.

Collin is working so hard helping out with this there's a little bead of sweat on his brow. Aw. For someone who claims to be so organized Kate's garage is a mess. She has various crap just shoved in cardboard boxes. Wouldn't she like to see everything all lined up pretty in giant Tupperware like normal organized people?

Aaden and Collin fight over a hammer for a very long time. Yawn. Kate is pounding some posts into the cement. The cement? How does that work? I literally have no idea what's going on. I also don't understand why an entire team of contractors is across the way building the treehouse, but Kate and Ashley are all by themselves doing what seems to be a fairly complicated project in their own right, whatever it is they are doing, pounding and stapling and such. I'm no Bob Villa, but wouldn't it make more sense to jack hammer pieces of the cement out, then pound posts into it, then refill the cement?

Franky I really don't know what I'm talking about or how to do this project Kate wants to do but I do know when to call in the professionals and leave it to them. The intern chooses dopey guitar string music for this part. Heh. I wonder if that's labeled the way I imagine it to be on the sound board when they cue that up :"Dopey guitar strings."

The younger kids try to explain what Kate is doing but it only leaves me more confused. I do see they are moving the chicken run to the barn. Collin blurts out that the treehouse took three days to build. The episode does indeed seem to play out as taking place over three days when all is said and done. That is a heck of a long time for ten and seven year olds to be forced to stay around the property and film all day.

Kate pays a very brief visit to the treehouse construction, and can't resist mentioning that she is working hard too over at the chicken coop. What does that have to do with the treehouse and what do they care what she's up to? What a narcissist.

The chicks finally arrive in a cardboard box with holes poked in it.  Is that really how they transport them? Yipe. "They were so cute, like a pillow!" says Aaden as he cuddles up with a pillow on the couch. Lol. Aaden, you're so cute!

Kate was worried the kids would step on the chicks?? That's a gruesome fear! She makes the kids stand back away from the chicks, which is no fun at all. Why can't they just be asked to shuffle their feet, or get on their knees? The way she problem solves is so insane.

A glimpse inside Kate's head: "I could see that door in my mind, I totally could see it, sitting there in my mind, but I thought I can't do that. And then I thought, well why can't you?" I wonder if her thought process really goes as slow as she makes it seem.

In unrelated news, the tree house sure is coming along.

I don't know what Kate is doing, but it involves a lot of nailing together of boards. It's some kind of door frame I guess? Ashley suggests maybe they should drill it, because like I said, she has sense. Who nails things anymore? It's not Little House. Kate is clearly in way over her head, and I still have no clue why they didn't assign a contractor to the chicken coop too. Uh oh, doofus made the door too wide.

She heads back over to the tree house contractors and asks them if they would help her trim the door to size. Is it me or is that really, really rude? You paid them to build a treehouse, not step in and lend a hand here and there for other random unrelated projects. They are very nice about it, but it doesn't negate how rude Kate is being.

Next they drill some hinges into the door. I have a feeling without Ashley here Kate would still be sitting helplessly on a giant pile of chicken feces staring at all the building materials. Thank God.

I think the kids are finally sick of Kate going on and on about how amazed she is at the project she is accomplishing. As Stephanie Tanner would say, well pin a rose on your nose. Collin, at the ripe old age of seven, mocks Kate. He rolls his eyes and sways around on the couch, saying, she never built anything in her whole entire life! Heh, I love when kids are old enough to realize some adults are completely absurd.

Kate scares her young kids about Avian flu, only she calls it "aviation" flu because she's an idiot. Way to give them nightmares, geez. Many sensitive kids don't see anything funny about jokes like that. I remember when I was a real little kid, and AIDS was all over the news, and I was way too little to understand anything about AIDS other than to think it was really scary. And then some stupid adult made a joke about a family member possibly getting AIDS because they had recently had an operation. I cried for two days after that. So many adults fail to understand that the bits and pieces of things that kids hear on the news can get grossly exaggerated in their little minds to the point of terror.

In unrelated news, the tree house is just about ready. It's rad, as one would expect when contractors spend three days on it. It's like a one-room tiny house, and even has a loft in it you get up to with a ladder. There's a swing down below that fits two kids at a time. The kids love it all. Too bad we found out later Kate keeps the cool place under lock and key so they can't even enjoy it. That's the whole point of a treehouse for kids, so they can run off to it when they need a break from the real world. What a buzz kill she is.

Kate jokes dumbly that someday it could all be too much for her and so she'll go out and stay in the treehouse. No Kate, someday it will all be too much for you so you will send a child away forever.

I don't hear women say, "Weinstein is a dog, but he sure makes great movies".

====

Meryl Streep sure did. Maybe not in that order but she called him "God", and that he was disgraceful after she found out about this, because... she didn't know. At least that's her story.

Nicky said...

People are talking about both. Can you explain what you mean?. Funny I actually see it as just the opposite. Those who looked the other way on Weinstein did not give trump the same courtesy. Again, huge hypocrisy there that should be downright alarming given they are often role models for young people. Don’t confuse the hypocrisy being pointed out as somehow condoning any kind of inappropriate behavior. They are not the same thing.
______________________________________________________

Not confused at all. There is hypocrisy on both sides. And I really don't care what Meryl Streep said or didn't say, or any other actress for that matter. They are not my role models, and probably aren't for many people. Just because someone may have the same ideology, doesn't mean everyone else looks up to them. And maybe that's the problem. I've stated it here before - since when did who we vote for become who we are as a person, and who we should align ourselves with? Just because Weinstein was a democrat, doesn't mean that all democrats are like him. It would be like me saying that you're just like Trump if you voted for or supported him.

We've all created this division among ourselves, and that's what I don't get. I don't care who anyone voted for - that doesn't define you or me.

Not all feminists, just the ones paying lip service to feminism. No pun intended.

$$

Lol exactly. I love feminists. I am one. It’s the fake ones being demonized.
______________________________________________________

Agree 100%. But if we are both feminists, why are we so harsh on the ones that are "feminist-light"? I don't identify or idolize millionaire actresses, and I'll bet you don't either. I think we're both (and many of the posters here), strong enough to be confident in our own opinions, and not look to others to form opinions for us. I don't agree with the thought of women should support all women just because. Some women are straight up bitches. I just think we shouldn't make this into this side vs that side thing.

I agree with that.

I think most of us are old enough to be long past looking to a celeb to admire, but there are many millions of younger women or women with special needs who are not, and I worry about that.

I think my big problem is the blame shifting, literally blaming the public like you and me for why they couldn't come forward, instead of taking responsibility and owning the truth. A few have been big girls about their mistakes and the money the accepted for it, but not most.

You voted for a sexual predator. How's that for an inconvenient truth, you holier than thou hypocrite?

^^^^

There was absolutely no evidence either candidate was a sexual "predator."

One candidate was a womanizer, the other was married to and supported a womanizer and at least one-time rapist.

So, those were the choices, or vote for a candidate who could not possibly win, or not vote. All things considered, I think just about everybody chose to vote for the lesser of two evils.

It's nothing like Harvey Weinstein, where women had plenty of other choices besides "vote for A or B." Nor does my voting for A or B have any bearing on whether any women will be hurt by A, B, or Bs husband in the future, so stop making such ridiculous comparisons.

Oh, you mean the anonymous woman represented by our good friend Lisa Bloom? Lol! Who dropped the lawsuit? I mean am I supposed to assume that is true when she won’t tell me who she is or pursue her lawsuit? I’m sure the left would have backed her 300% in bringing him down so what’s her excuse now? You can’t refuse to pursue your own case then cry foul when voters just don’t have enough information or support to draw any credible information.

Better late than never but at least Harvey’s victims are going on record, providing details, and sticking to their stories. That’s why I believe them. And so has the woman raped by Clinton, who has gone on record with her name, what happened, and hasn’t waivered all these years. That’s why I believe her.

You’re assuming a voter should vote based only on sexual history, but that is not the only issue on the table and again it’s a weighing issue balancing out both the behavior and choices of BOTH candidates with their policy positions and doing what you think is best. It was not a vote for who is not a sex abuser and to frame it as such is absurd.

There is no “weighing” you have to do with Harvey. He’s not running for office.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Here's a handy list of Trump's accusers. Obviously lying scum, every one, right?

$$$

Again, you had a choice between two candidates with very questionable histories on women’s issues or you could vote for someone who couldn’t win and not weigh in at all on reality. I don’t fault people for voting for either one, as long as they are aware that both have very sordid histories. So nice try at a red herring but mehhh.

Well it looks like Kate missed another opportunity. Matt Roloff has just written a children's book about his dog. Now Kate will only look like she's copying him if she tries to do it. It's called Little Lucy's Big Race and following is a information on it (from Amazon).

Little Lucy, Big Race is a heartfelt story based on Matt's energetic, fun loving dog Lucy who was adopted and born the smallest of her litter. The story takes place on Roloff Farms with an uplifting message filled with hope, encouragement, faith, and perseverance. THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE BOOK: In 2016 Matt underwent major spinal surgery. It was during his recovery in the hospital that he was inspired to write a children’s book about hope and overcoming adversity. With time on his hands and after a great deal of personal reflection, Matt was reminded of his own childhood spent in hospitals and how important faith, encouragement, positivity, and hope was to him at that time. He was further inspired by the news that he was becoming a grandfather and by his little Lucy dog, who was the perfect character to bring his story to life. Little Lucy, Big Race is based on Matt’s energetic, fun-loving Chihuahua Maltese poodle mix who was adopted and born the smallest of her litter. She currently lives with Matt on his 100 acre farm. True to the story, Lucy started off shy and has since come out of her shell loving the freedom of wide open spaces. Despite her small size, little Lucy continues to be the fastest critter on the farm! We hope her story inspires readers of all ages.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Yep Tarantino is saying EVERYBODY knew and is one of the few to say you know what I f-ed up, I should have done something, I knew enough to say something and do something. Nice to hear that.

The only thing I can think of about Meryl is she doesn't live in a celebrity town or seems to hang out much with Hollywood. I'm not sure I'm even convinced her cohorts like her much, though no one would dare suggest that. I suppose it's remotely possible she doesn't have very many Hollywood friends who would clue her in on this, as she keeps herself rather separated from it. But it's still hard to believe given how long she's been in the industry, even if she keeps herself isolated. I'm afraid the most plausible explanation is she's just lying.

As for Trump, anonymous is simply proving my point--Hollywood went crazy against Trump for similar accusations, while hiding one of their own who was about 100 times worse than Trump and the Clintons COMBINED by their own stories and admissions. Pretty much everything they ever said about him is sanctimonious nonsense now, and it's a hard blow. A lot of them spend the bulk of their spare time on politics--I have no idea what they're going to do with themselves now or how they're going to explain their incredible hypocrisy. Many are being awfully quiet, I've noticed that. Speechless would make sense.

House is a mess with the older one scribbling on things with a pen, the baby crawling around a toy strewn floor and on and on. I guess she was never taught cleanliness is next to Godliness. Whoa, this is alarming. Some things are fine, like the laundry to fold and markings from a child with a marker that can be dealt with later. But the heavy caked on dust and the pile of dirty diapers are unsanitary and dangerous to one's health.

Did you see what she said? She could clean ten minutes here or there or spend time with her kids ten minutes here and there. So, people who take the time to clean up so they aren't living in dust and filth are neglecting their children? I am not a fan of that sentiment. There's a difference between a messy home and an unsanitary home. One is real life, the second is dangerous. Kate's cluttered, but most of the time it's clear the house keeper is still cleaning, just cleaning AROUND the clutter, so at least her clutter doesn't seem to be a health hazard.

I saw that. Does she think that makes her more relateable? It just goes to show that her hygiene and basic sanitation skills are sorely lacking. Which, having grown up amidst 19 kids and counting, is rather horrifying. Does she think CPS won't see this? Or that they don't care? She has a husband who has no apparent means of employment, which means he could help; but even then, this family more than has means to keep a reasonably clean house. So what's the excuse?

I think in many jurisdictions, that post would raise an alarm. The fact that she's got two kids under 2 and clearly cannot (or will not) keep up a moderately clean environment ought to be a clue that the last thing this one needs right now is to get knocked up again. Yeah, instead of wiping down your filthy stove, why don't you just photograph, caption, and post 10 photos of your entire filthy house? That makes so much sense. And while you're at it, Jessa, give us some more pouty selfies!

Where's the TLC maintenance crew when you need 'em? They must be on a filming hiatus.

Sadly, this family is chock full of idiots and appears to be producing more at a record rate. There ought to be a law.

I know the Duggars were made to do a lot of chores. I wonder if any of this has to do with a bit of rebellion on her part, sick and tired of spending her childhood choring.

I also think she's too young. Not ready for the tremendous time and responsibility having kids and a home entails. Yep it's hard work and you either have to do it all yourself or work your butt off to pay someone else to do it. Either one requires work. At that age a lot of young people still want to be slobs and can be lazy, and you really can't be with kids to worry about.

I'm not behind. It absolutely was breaking news that the LAPD was involved just as of yesterday. They had tweeted their involvement just shortly before I posted that. I'm sorry that was not posted quick enough for you, but perhaps you shouldn't get your news here.

What's that saying, where there is smoke there's fire. When you hear that sexual misconduct has been going on incessantly since the 80's, does it occur to you something more probably happened? People can stop playing dumb now, I'm afraid the jig is up. He collected Super Bowl tickets and trips to St. Barth's all while pretending he couldn't fathom what to do or who to tell about this. He is no innocent party here.

Okay, let's start here. If there is no one to tell (B.S.), how about at least stop accepting the free Super Bowl tickets? You know, taking a moral stand and all that. What's your excuse for why he accepted those?

Also, like K+8, the house was the filming set, so they had cleaners and other hired help.
Just like Kate did.
IRL, you don't have a team of people descend upon your home and get it ready from top to bottom, inside and out.
Another way growing up on tv, on a reality show, which invades your home and real life, does not prepare you for all the real responsibilities that us mediocres have.

Why doesn’t she put a diaper pail right next to the changing table or bed? In one smooth action you can dump the diaper directLy into the trash with the same effort it takes to pile them on a table.

Not joking but I wonder if she’s depressed. Sheer inability to keep a clean house to the point of filth can often be linked straight back to depression. They seem like the type who don’t believe in depression so wouldn’t get proper help if they had it.

Time management 101. She could have used the time she took to walk around the house taking photos of the filth and posting them on social media to do at least one chore, like tossing those diapers out or wiping down that stovetop. It's a good thing she didn't show her toilet bowl. It probably hasn't been scrubbed out in a while either. Ugh. What was she thinking when she did this?

Formerly Duped said...

It is easier to toss a dirty diaper in a bin than on a table ! Ugh. I had two kids two years apart and I think I made more effort to keep up with housework for the sake of not spreading germs to them plus your time is limited to naps etc so you just work faster. I would hate to live in filth like that an and would be embarrassed if anyone saw that ! I always did an hour of housework/dinner prep during the baby's nap and the other hour to spend with my son on crafts or playing with him or reading a book to him.

I agree, this must be a filming hiatus. The house is clean when TLC is filming. I remember a quote from Mama June (Kate's twin), years ago, saying that here house was cleaner when they were filming. It makes me wonder, though--Kate whining about "doing it all myself" and pitching a fit about her messy house last Halloween--did TLC cut her budget so much that it wouldn't cover a cleaning crew? Why does everyone else seem to get their house cleaned but she doesn't? Then again, everyone else brings in well over a million viewers, so that may explain the discrepancy.

I also believe that JimBob still controls all the money that family brings in. Therefore, Jessa might not have the money for a cleaning lady--her allowance from Daddy doesn't cover it. Meanwhile, didn't JB just buy another plane? I guess the priority is toys for himself.

foxy said...

I wonder what Jessa would have done with those dirty diapers if she were in the era of cloth diapers. Maybe after a while she would have tossed them in the trash and bought new. The HVAC is really a health hazard. If you can change the filter once a month you can dust the debris off the front. Neither of them work outside the home so there is no excuse for that filth. I am from a family of 12 kids and our home was always clean.

AuntieAnn said...

Cleaning house is part of everyday living. Of course babies and toddlers take up a lot of the day but it isn't like you can't do a few chores while they're up and about. Playpens are portable. Put the baby in it for a while if the dishes need doing. Let your toddler help you with simple chores. Sheesh. I think some young mommies just play with their babies all day like dollies while the mess piles up around them.

In her latest IG post Jesse is back pedaling and apparently now her house is sparkling clean and she's trying to justify her previous post. However, there are no pictures of the clean house.

Sometimes you don't want to wash the dishes right after supper because your husband is finally home from work, and there's only one golden hour of family time before babies are tucked into bed and hubby has to start in on his college homework.

&&&&

So why don't you get him to HELP you with the dishes. The two of you stand there, one washes, the other dries and puts away. For a family of just four this shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes tops and then you have a clean sink, a sanitary living space and the kitchen doesn't smell in the morning. Plenty of time to play with the kids and do homework. Or, you could alternate the chore, with one doing some clean up while the other plays with the kids, and then switch off. It's good for kids to have one-to-one time with a parent anyway. It's obnoxious when people use their kids to excuse things.

Or get a dishwasher. They are collecting decent paychecks from TLC. Dishwasher and installation is not THAT expensive when you have an income, and it's a one-time expense.

I don't see a single negative comment on her post, so she must have swiffered them. But her next post going on and on about how she has cleaned up is clearly in response to that. I almost feel bad for her, feeling like she has to deep clean her house in response to internet strangers. That's not what anyone was saying. She says her diaper pail is out of commission.....ok, well improvise. Surely parents managed before. Throw it in the regular garbage, it'll stink but it's better than it stinking in the wide open.

That was REALLY bad. You could give your kid asthma making them live in these conditions.

CPS WILL detain asthmatic kids from parents who can't keep the living environment reasonably free of irritants.

Just a guess, I think she was looking for attention and validation from her saps. If you look at the comments, the ones that didn't get swiffered, they're like sleeple, praising her for putting her kids first over a clean and sanitary environment and claiming they live like this too. That's a scary thought.

I think the girl has emotional issues. She's not ready for marriage, she's not ready for kids, she may even be second guessing this marriage. Many women her age aren't ready or choose wrong. It's kind of sad to watch it play out online.

I remember a couple times in school feeling weeks towards the end of the semester where you just have zero energy for cleaning. The house falls into disarray. Things are left out, dirty accumulates. I remember getting to the point a couple times where I just need to take a break, put down the books, and spend a couple hours tidying up just so I don't feel like such a slob. The thing is, this environment doesn't make one feel good, and it's not conducive to other things you need to get done, like studying. Knowing your kitchen is clean and ready to raid for a snack really does help to hunker down with a textbook.

I just wonder if this filth makes her feel good, if it could be making any depression she has worse. Like a cycle.

Tucker's Mom said...

Not joking but I wonder if she’s depressed. Sheer inability to keep a clean house to the point of filth can often be linked straight back to depression. They seem like the type who don’t believe in depression so wouldn’t get proper help if they had it.

The worst I do is let clean dishes accumulate on the counter mats.
But, with Jessa, even the dishes piling up in the sink, I really get.
It's the soiled diapers, soiled bed linens. dust you can write your name in and CRUD on the hvac intake cover that gets me.
Please, child, don't tell me you replace your filter every month when you have to unscrew and handle that filthy cover every single time.
That filth has been building up for months, if not a year or more.

I hope, hope, hope that someone from her family (not her mother, of course, she would NEVER) sees her Instagram and takes some cleaning supplies over and cleans that house top to bottom.

Right on.

The Duggar kids, most of whom are a handful of years ahead of the Gosselin kids, are going to be interesting to watch at this age now that many are entering adulthood.

We are getting a sampling of their struggles. And the things they are struggling with are basic. Keeping a house and home, knowing what should go on social media, judging public reaction, coping with off-camera life in a manner that is reasonably successful. I think she's a little lost. And I think fashioning her childhood around television and fame are a huge reason.

It would be an interesting media and television thesis to dissect the aftermath of reality T.V. for children.

Tucker's Mom said...

The Gosselin kids are going to be shocked when they realize how long it takes for a mediocre person to amass a middle-class life, let alone a mansion on 26 acres, a kitchen redo, a house full of furniture, a suite of appliances, luxury vacations etc, etc.

At least the kids who don't connect to the parent who lives a working-person's life.

When I lived an with aunt and uncle on their farm for a few years, my aunt and I would occasionally go up to the neighbor-lady's for coffee. She was very friendly and all, but a real true slob. One time she had ordered a crate of baby chicks and had not put them in the coop. Instead she chose to rig up a corner of the kitchen blocked off with a piece of lumber to keep them penned in. She said it was easier to keep an eye on them there and stay warm.

Anyway, two or three months later she still hadn't gotten around to taking them out to the coop. They had overrun her kitchen and were a fair size by that time. Some would even roost on the back of the chairs. It was disgusting with poop and feathers everywhere.

Aunt and I didn't dare make eye contact with each other but when we got in the truck to leave, we got the giggles - the kind that turn into laughter you can't control no matter what. Of course we made "would you like coffee with your chicken?" jokes all the way back home.

I'm not saying Jenna's house is that filthy, but I was trying to recall the dirtiest home I've ever seen and that was the one.

Jessa Duggar's message accompanying the filthy house pictures seemed to suggest that those of us who had a baby and a toddler at the same time, while also maintaining a clean house and environment, were somehow neglecting the children. What she overlooks is the harm that filthy environment is causing the kids and that is neglect pure and simple. Sure my house was messy at times but that's what makes a house a home. A clean house can get messy at times but what she pictured was massive neglect and a health hazard for children...and adults.

&&&

That's where she really misjudged this and doesn't understand.

Part of NOT neglecting your children is to take care of their living environment. The air they breathe and the dirt and clutter they are exposed to DO make a difference. It does no good to smother your baby with love and kisses and reading books and play time if you're siting in a pile of dirt and he develops asthma for it.

She has simplified motherhood into one thing--playing with the kids. Like someone said, they're not dolls. There are a lot of other things that go into being a good parent that don't involve direct interaction with the kids. One of them being working on and maintaining their living environment in a clean and safe manner.

Would you sit there and say a mom cooking up pasta for the kids is neglecting her kids because she's watching water boil and not with the kids? They have to eat as much as they need to be in a clean space.

She's pretty dumb. Lack of education there.

.....and lest we forget the giant safety pin next to the mountain of dirty diapers.

It is good to let the kids play by themselves and you can keep an eye on them so you can get your chores done. She really needs one of those giant play yards to set up in the living room and she can go about her cleaning while they are in the play yard being kids. You can always hear them especially in such a small house. If it gets quiet you know you have to check on them. I think they are both just lazy and she very well may be overwhelmed. Husbands are chosen for them and that is it. He was just 19 and she was 22. What a life.

Maybe she did this Hoarding Selfies in rebellion to her father because when they were filming, cleaning crews cleaned and straightened up the rooms they were going to film in.

I think any money they get goes straight to Jim Bob and he gives them a small stipend each month. She probably doesn't have the money to hire anyone to come in 2 or 3 days a week. I am so glad that Jana isn't her personal maid.

As soon as the girl and PS got into the make-up room and the door shut, he grabbed her, kissed her, she pushed him off and grabbed her purse and got out of there. She went immediately to a woman producer and told her.

Wow, these people are way out in front on the marketing, and the sextuplets aren't even born yet. Professional photo shoots (with wife in evening wear), a gender reveal 5K run, announcement of names (even though it's still murky whether it's 3 boys and 3 girls or 4 and 2), and of course the obligatory People article (in August). And the names: Saylor, Bridge, Tag, Wales (!), Rivers (girl!), Rawlings (girl!!), Layke, etc. I wonder if they've already got a TLC contract and whether promo money is paying for all this.

The wife has the same sort of glassy-eyed stare as we've seen on K8. She had a miscarriage in January 2017 and immediately went on fertility drugs? Sounds a little hinky to me.

"Courtney and Eric Waldrop were already the proud parents of three little boys when the Albertville, Alabama, couple decided to try for one more child.
After suffering a miscarriage in January, Courtney decided to go on a low dose of a fertility drug to help conceive and carry a child to full term.
Despite already having a set of twins, she thought there was a low risk for having multiple children.
The mother was stunned when she was told in late June that she would be having six babies, concerned about her health and her family growing to 11 before February."

I don't understand why hiring a housekeeper would not be first on her list with those checks from TLC, after putting some savings aside and paying off some debts. I simply don't believe TLC isn't paying them enough to afford such a small luxury. In her area of the country I bet she could have a weekly housekeeper coming in for less than $300 a month. What, does that make one less of a woman or mommy? Kate always seems to love to insist she does not have help, as if it's a badge of honor rather than just stupid and stubborn. For women that either work long hours, have kids, or are otherwise stretched too thin, it's great. There is no shame in it, and it frees up a lot of time while having an always clean house. And, you're giving someone else a job they may desperately need. If you can afford it, and I believe she can, it's a win-win.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The other thing with falling that behind on cleaning is that you're risking an infestation building up of bugs and rodents. It can be very hard to unwind the clock once that happens.

It ends up being more costly and inconvenient to fumigate than if you had just set aside 20 minutes a day and the two of you kept up with it or just bite the bullet and hire a housekeeper. Even once a month housekeeping would help.

Or how about all those brothers and sister she has, can't she ask one of them to lend a sisterly or brotherly hand while she struggles with young kids? The family loves each other, I'm sure they would help get her back on track.

She really is treading into child safety issues.

I think a lot of men think that women should be able to do all the cooking, cleaning and taking care of the kids. That leaves some moms feeling like their husband or whomever will be either mad or disappointed if they say "uncle".
But, no matter what, if the needs of the children are not being met, and Jessa's house certainly qualifies, something needs to be done so the kids are not living in utter filth.

Damn, and I thought I had all the great quotes from that show down to a science. At least I had the location right--he used to say that at the Inn, and Lorelai was there. Either way--I love the notebook and reading the cover makes me chuckle.

I also agree about the name. Saylor/Sailor is pretty popular with the celeb crowd these days, and it's such a ridiculous name. The others aren't much better. Those fad-ish names won't stand the test of time and the kids will probably be embarrassed by them someday. My boys have such boring, classic names. Well, except for one who was named after a character I loved in a series of books I read as a teen (and still go back and read now). It turned out to be an old family name on DH's side, so I was able to talk him into it. It's a great name, so I'm not worried about him being teased for it. But a name like Bridge or Layke (I also hate the trend of putting "Y"s in names were they are not needed--like the Busbys, who named their oldest daughter Blayke) is going to lead to teasing someday. Why set your kids up for something like that?

The statement from TLC probably didn't get much attention because the Gosselins aren't big news these days. The stories of their custody battles barely get covered, and the paps that Kate hated (LOVED) so much are gone. The show just fizzled out and died a slow death, and nobody paid much attention because nobody even bothered to watch anymore. For a celeb, what is worse than having haters? Answer: apathy. Layla @99 - You’re absolutely right, the public is now apathetic where TFW is concerned. He IG tribute to Shoka’s birthday has been stalled at 86 comments. Her twitter feed is dead. No one is clamoring for the show to return. No one cares. She’d better buy more comments telling her how beautiful she is and how much they miss the show for her next post because, you know, advertisers really believe that fucketybillion people want the show to return.

The big picture- It's not about how big any reality tv star is at the height of their fauxlebrity. They can be bringing in big paychecks, getting perks, getting on D-lister shows like DWTS, but at the end of the day, 99% of all of them will be O-V-E-R before they know it.
It's about how they pick up their life and move on with happiness and fulfillment.

Kate will always long for her salad days and that will always be a hole she'll never fill.

Jon at least has love, family and some semblance of a career which is sustaining him financially.

The Busby quints are hitting the age where they will be spouting out cute things like unnerwears and aldergators, while Kate's kids get older and more argumentative. And there's a new set of infant HOMs with a show coming up--they will, no doubt, be followed closely, and then there's this new HOM pregnancy too. The babies are cute, the toddlers say adorable, unexpected things, and Kate's kids just talk about how much they dislike each other and argue about room assignments. Which will viewers choose to watch? The little ones, of course. They make say, "Awwww" and smile, while the G kids' bickering is just annoying. Throw in Kate's meltdowns and their show is thoroughly unpleasant to watch. Still, Kate will hang in there, refusing to lower herself to a mediocre job, waiting by the phone for TLC to call.

When those phone calls from TLC cease she might just get desperate enough to approach OWN about a "Where Are They Now?" gig, and hope that might revive interest in her "career".

This quote from Mark Cuban really explains what happened to Kate's TV career:

We've talked about Kate's overwhelming greed before, and how viewers can't relate to the 1% lifestyle she has to throw in people's faces. How many over-the-top parties, vacations, and home improvements can "mediocre" people stand to watch before the gluttony of it all makes them turn away? The viewership dropped and never came back up. She (and TLC) alienated too may people, and they couldn't be lured back. If anyone wonders what happened to the ten million fans who once tuned in, please refer to the quote above.

Remember when she called in to The View, after having been a guest co-host, and telling everyone she missed them? No one said they they missed her, too. The harsh truth was, they'd had dozens of guest hosts since her appearance, and would go on to have dozens more.

TFW put all her eggs (no fertility pun intended) in one basket -- being a TV star -- and now I think she mostly waits by the phone for the next round of episodes. And if that ain't mediocre, I don't know what is.

OT, but...isn't it interesting that we have never seen even a glimpse of Kate's newer Audi? Aunt Win said she never saw it on the show, even though to Sequoia and the BBB are shown. Not even sitting in the driveway or in the garage.

I just thought of it because some neighbors down the street have a new Audi, and are showing it off. Theirs is an A8, so it's a lot nicer than what Kate would have gotten. But it seems odd to me that there is no sign of hers anywhere. Maybe TLC didn't want it to be seen because it doesn't fit with her "all for my kids" act. Having a car that will only seat 4 or 5--when you have 8 (oops, sorry, 7) kids means it is definitely Mom's toy and not for them.

Part 1: An article written by Jon Wamsley, who played Jason Walton, on the Waltons. Shared by Paul Peterson on Facebook.

Harvey Weinstein. Within the last couple of weeks, his public reputation has gone from that of “Producer/Mogul” to “Sexual Predator.” The revelations of a number of women in Hollywood have led to hundreds, if not thousands, of “Me Too” posts on social media, from men as well as women, who have admitted to being sexually harassed and victimized in the workplace.

The life of an actor may seem easy, but it’s a tough gig. The highs, when they happen, can be stratospheric and intoxicating. The lows can feel like you’ve hit the bottom of a mine shaft. Serious actors go through years of training and preparation; taking classes - expensive classes, working in theater, often without pay, to gain experience and “exposure,” all the while working part-time jobs to survive.

An actress friend of mine, whose career soared in the 70’s, once summed up her advice to young hopefuls. She said, “When someone tells me they want to be an actor, I ask them, what would you do if you couldn’t be an actor? If they say, “Well, I guess I’d be a nurse, or a flight attendant,” I tell them, then be a nurse or a flight attendant. Only if they say, “Nothing. I’d just die if I couldn’t act,” do I tell them to give it their all.”

GollyGee said...

Part 2:

Clearly, the pitfalls of acting are not limited to hard work, unrewarded. There’s also the so-called “casting couch.” The stereotypical line was always, “How much do you want this job?” For an actor walking the line between starvation and stardom, that question can be difficult to answer. As we’ve seen in recent posts, this kind of employer bullying is not limited to Hollywood.

A few years back, I was extremely dismayed to read a quote from a top Nashville record producer. I’ll paraphrase: “These days, when a female singer’s photo comes across my desk, if she doesn’t look like a model, I don’t even bother to listen to her demo.” While this doesn’t constitute sexual harassment, it does reduce women to an object. With this kind of attitude, some of the great female recording artists of the past, women with enormous talent, wouldn’t have stood a chance, simply because they didn’t happen look like a real-life Barbie. Score: Music Business 1, Music 0.

Not everyone is sympathetic to the “Me Too” posts. The other day I saw a 1970’s photo of an older character actress on Facebook. One of the responses to the photo went something like, “Now, there’s an actress who didn’t have to worry about sexual harassment.”

GollyGee said...

Part 3:

Some men have the attitude that if women can’t handle the pressure, they should simply stay out of the business world. This line of thought is not only unrealistic, it’s archaic, misogynistic, and in fact, the root of the problem.

In our culture, sex is everywhere. It is used to sell everything from cars to toothpaste, to prescription drugs. Our tv commercials, television shows, movies, magazine ads and billboards constantly point out how we’re supposed to look and behave. So we go on diets, join gyms, get hair transplants and silicone breasts in an effort to feel better about ourselves, get a new job, or be more sexually attractive. My sister, Mary McDonough, who played Erin Walton, wrote about her own Hollywood experience and the risks of breast implants extensively in her book, “Lessons From The Mountain.” My own personal advice to women regarding implants: If you’re contemplating surgery because your boyfriend insists on you getting fake boobs, get a new boyfriend.

Money, fame, and power are seductive. There will always be those who crave being part of that exclusive world, and those who will take advantage of their hunger. Not everyone is ruled by the same moral compass, and what works for some is not acceptable to others. Ringo Starr, when asked about female fans on The Beatles tours, was quoted as saying, “Every night Paul was judging a beauty contest.” When I was on tour, I sat with another well-known drummer, surveying the after-show pickup scene in the hotel bar.

“How do these people find each other?” I asked, “Players know players,” he said. "Attraction to the rich or charismatic is not limited to the world of music or film. In the 80’s, outside the Dodger locker room, I observed a crowd of young baseball groupies, dressed to the hilt. Full make-up, tight dresses, high heels - waiting for the players.

And of course, sexual interaction in big business or politics is no different, as our current president inadvertently pointed out.
We all want to succeed, but at what price? The Weinstein scandal has shone a spotlight on employers who cross the line. Social media has allowed women and men to come forward to share their experiences in a cathartic way. The Weinsteins of the world are on notice.

There is power in numbers, and consolation and hope for those who have been victimized; knowing they are not alone, that they need not feel ashamed, and that their voices are being heard.

Kate is a fraud. I took what he was saying is that some people are full, consenting and willing participants in a sexualized culture, male and female alike. He’s missing the point. We’re not talking about people who want the producer to hit on them and would return his advances and do everything they can to make that happen. Harvey may have encountered many women like that. That’s their business. A big problem with Harvey is he would make an advance, be rejected by someone who was not looking to sleep their way to the top and was serious about their career, and yet he wouldn’t take no for an answer. The latest story today (the tampon one, I can’t bring myself to say more) was disturbing in his persistence of a clearly unwilling woman. That sounds like the life of an attorney in their early 20s. Incredible highs and lows, expensive schooling, internshios without pay, and side jobs (more than one) to make your dream of helping those the legal system has beat down the most while still making your own rent.

Boo freaking hoo. I mean seriously, the dramatics over ACTING. Plenty of jobs are really difficult to get your bearings in. They’re not some special case. This is all just a gentle deflection away from the responsibility Hollywood bears for their outrageous failings here.

I think that's because it was all a fake story line. The twins are old enough to drive, so instead of being fully honest about why they're not, Kate and TLC concoct a ridiculous scenario in which a parent thinks that maneuvering a John Deere around cones is a good substitute for Drivers Ed.
The really pathetic part of that particular shit show was that there are photos plastered all over of the twins driving that same John Deere years before!
And they didn't look like spazzes! Oh, no, they were zooming around the property, little kids in the payload.

I think what was fishy is that TLC didn't/wouldn't buy a car for the twins and pay for the required driving lessons(so many school districts no longer offer driver's ed. and I am assuming that the kids' private school does not offer this). We all know Khate is cheap and lazy when it comes to the kids and she's probably still trying to sell TLC on a driving episode with the twins, complete with their own car and private driving lessons.

AuntieAnn said...

Remember, if they want cars, they have to get a job first. Oh the irony of THAT. Old Agatha Hannigan there has had those kids working for her since the tups were born. She owes everything around her to them and now THEY are supposed to get a job?

Layla said...

The twins not only drove the Gator, they drove with a bunch of the younger kids in the back. If they are such terrible drivers, isn't that putting the younger kids in danger? Oh, who am I kidding--if one of the tups got hurt, TLC would keep filming and Kate would talk about how it's a life experience.

Kate said that if any of the kids want cars, they have to get jobs to pay for them, just like she did. What does she think they've ben doing for the past 10 years? It's called working. They have had a job for a decade. They have earned the money for cars--many times over. I find it odd that Kate thinks it's necessary to have 3 cars for herself, but it's not necessary for the kids to have any when they start driving. Her greed is only exceeded by her intense love for herself.

Well, she met up with him at the hotel because she was willing to compromising everything in the name of fame and money. In short, she took the risk.

This woman we well on notice he was a creep and a half, so she knew something bad could happen and sure enough it did.

What's disappointing about all these women saying yes, yes, ok, yes then suddenly no, is that it likely gave this creep hope that one of these days that last no would not happen, that he would score. And I think he probably did score with some women, but they're not admitting it. It is extremely frustrating and disappointing that women can't all get on board with the idea that none of this behavior is ever appropriate at any time for any reason. Giving in on little bits here and there and then backing off is confusing and runs the risk the creep will feel encouraged.

As more and more people are saying, there does come a point where women need to take responsibility for their own selves and as a collective gender, draw a line in the stand with no one crossing the picket line. This is not the same as dressing up at a Dodgers game and screaming for the players. We're talking about a woman actively accepting very inappropriate invitations from a very sick man KNOWING how sick he was.

The tampon thing reminds me of 50 Shades of Grey which I'm not ashamed to say I found revolting. I don't care how Puritan that makes me sound.

Why is she assuming Obama even knew about her story (you're not that famous, girlfriend), or believed it given that she took it DOWN? Total insane and uncalled for attack, in my opinion. CNN tried to get her to comment, and she refused. This is when this has gone too far. Make an accusation, go on record, and stick to it. This pussyfooting around, throwing out vague little details then retracting or going back into hiding. It makes it very hard to get to the bottom of this and change things for ALL WOMEN, it's very annoying. Every time you go into hiding you are part of the problem, not the solution.

He handled it with pure class as usual, apologizing and denying he would ever do anything so inappropriate.

It is well documented the Obamas are very fond of HW. Very, very fond.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Also might I add, this did not happen during the man's presidency or anywhere after it. It was only a couple years ago, and he was already wheelchair bound and very, very old. He was not expected to survive in 2015.

His son was very clear in his book that HW is completely losing his memory and utterly incapable of even assisting in writing his own biography. I'm not sure why this hasn't gotten a lot of attention, maybe because people expect this at his age? but it's all documented in print. I don't think he officially has Alzheimers but it's very common for your mind to go in your 90's. Given there is no evidence there is no other history here of sexualized behavior, perhaps he simply wasn't in his right mind.

There's sexual harassment, and then there's a 95 year old senile men. Old women suffering from dementia have been known to behave sexually inappropriately--I have read about and seen at nursing homes women and men alike making sexual comments, inappropriate comments, reaching out to touch someone they shouldn't, losing their modesty and going nude, etc. This is sad, and is not the same thing as Harvey Weinstein. They can't help it and the best thing you can do is just limit the opportunities they are in a compromising situation and provide as much care and supervision as possible when such situations do arise.

I know she desperately wants to be a "me too" here, but a little sensitivity about the elderly is in order. His PR person apologized, she took down the post (perhaps after the Bushes explained to her the poor guy is senile) so hopefully she can move on now without trashing his good name.

This sounds like a SENILE OLD MAN.

This is really, really sad.

And I'm really sad the women can't tell the difference. I'm sorry they had to endure this, it is never comfortable when someone in their 90's is being sexual, been there experienced that and I just wanted to burst into tears (someone with Alzheimer's, great-grandma's assisted living home), but I would never classify that as "sexual harassment" or "me too", and his aides need to be more vigilant, honestly.

Again, his own son said more than two years ago his dad has gone senile. It's in his book. Maybe American isn't ready for another ex president losing his mind, but it's happened.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

also he KNEW what he was doing. Thus the sick 'joke' he'd make excusing his disgusting, groping behaviour. Not sure how anyone could condone this.

&&&&

How do you know he knew what he was doing? He's senile. Now, the aides knew, I'll give you that. Why they let this go on is indefensible, I'll give you that.

They are on notice now, and his aides know now people don't like it and it's not appropriate. If it continues, perhaps he won't be able to continue doing engagements.

At least they are actually being honest about it, instead of lying like everybody else in this whole mess.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The 200 plus comments are largely in defense of HW, saying exactly what I said, this is dimentia not another Harvey Weinstein, and if you're going to blame someone put the blame on his aides.

Here's just one that's pretty brash but it was it is: "I’m not saying it’s appropriate. But he’s clearly not well, likely suffering from dementia, and has no sense of boundaries anymore. I’d hold those around him in charge of his care more accountable. Time to stop putting him in these situations and let the matter, and hm, die."

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

More comments being very sensitive about his dementia:

"They also said he has dementia, which killed nd of would explain the grab ass and repeatedly telling the same dumb jokes. A lot of people with dementia start saying and doing things they never would have done with all their cognitive functions intact."

"She said he has a global influence - well it doesnt make it any more right if a man’s influence only extends to a few people. But how many people are jumping to roast their own grandpa in the same way they want to roast a stranger/celebrity?"

And one person is getting very upset on the Blaze, a democrat" "“You are terrible. [H]e was 89 years old. [A]nd has some Dementia and Vascular Parkinson’s. You were not sexually assaulted. You cheapen every person that was. This is not political. I have never voted for a Bush or a republican [sic] in my life. This is just wrong.”

and

“Awards for bravery don’t belong to women who post on Instagram. I’ve been loathe [sic] to comment on things like this but this was the last straw. I’m not denying anyone’s ‘truth,’ and I am not saying that sexual harassment or assault don’t cause most victims to feel fear and shame, but I am saying that it isn’t all the same.”

Yeah, calling great-grandfathers with dementia sexual predators really isn't all that brave.

She was 90 years old! I put the blame mostly on his aides. Let's have a little bit of compassion and patience with the very elderly and disabled here. I think there's a difference between abuse and impropriety. When your child sticks a finger up their nose you take their hand away from their face and tell them that that is not appropriate behavior. You do the same if a man grabs your butt.

I worked in a psychiatric hospital on a geriatric ward where butt grabbing was a common occurrence and that is exactly what we told them, men AND women alike. Unfortunately some people tend to do things they would never have thought of doing when their minds functioned normally.

Putting HW Bush in the same category as the #metoo crowd is just beyond the pale for me. I understand that the women he groped were upset, and he's a President with protections and aides, so it's hard to react in the moment. But to label this as sexual assault frankly is misguided at best (and another reason I'm hating social media more and more).
Working in healthcare, we deal with this in certain populations. I remember learning as a student, the term DOM; Dirty Old Man.
The lesson was contextualization of the DOM and actually, to NOT look at him with that layman's label.
We were taught that sexual impulses can go unchecked (and sometimes, old people are just plain horny!), and for a great many reasons, patients/elderly/impaired people can act out inappropriately, and although we needed to be on our guard about it, we needed to be compassionate in our understanding of why it was happening.
This is a failure of HW's personal security, and they should have been on top of every interaction and photo op, so that young women don't get posed next to him.
I feel that this is such an unnecessary labeling of HW as some lascivious molester, and it really demonizes the impaired and elderly, who do these acts without malice.
As a society, I hate to think that we're considering the elderly who are without all their faculties as sexual predators.

Oh, and if you think women with the same impairments don't hit on men...HA!

There is no class in painting HW as a sexual predator. This isn't sounding any alarm to protect other women.
My guess is that the first gropee had a broader message to send about Trump. Reading her IG post, that's pretty clear.
HW Bush is not long for this world, and watching him and his family suffer through the pain of this embarrassment, judgement and labeling is very sad.
What's to be gained by telling the world HW grabbed your ass cheek?
Is is right to do? No.
But it's not in the same category as Harvey Weinstein and other real predators who pose a real danger to women.
If HW was 20 years younger, independent, able to walk and be on his own, OK, I can see telling people that he's got a propensity to put his hand on your butt.
There's no virtue in destroying a very old man. There's no dignity in that.

In general I’m all for exposing these guys and make this all very public. But this is one of those rare cases where it should have been handled quietly and with dignity. He has special needs because he is very elderly and senile. It’s no different than a man or woman with Down syndrome or severe autism reaching out and touching a butt. Many of them are! And, they get horny!
Of course the intersection of sexual urges with an inability to control one's impulses can result in improper behavior, but to call it sexual assault, I think it has to reach a certain level.
I don't think what HW did to Lind and other women within wheelchair range rises to assault.
Certainly not how interpret the #metoo movement.

Absolutely. I won't bore you with a long personal story, but the short of it is that a friend, who was a retired minister, high in the church diocese, sat on the board of so many organizations, was well-respected in the community having won many awards and recognitions, was a straight-laced conservative who never would have dreamed of doing anything like groping, telling off-color jokes. When he was 92, he in a nursing home. He had dementia, and his personality did a complete 360-degree turn-around. He told embarrassing jokes to the nursing staff, was known to do some butt-patting on the servers in the dining hall while his wife was next to him. She knew, of course, but didn't "condone" it because there was really nothing she could say or do to make him stop this behavior. I would suspect the same might be true of the elder Bush and his wife.

George HW Bush has vascular Parkinsonism.

"ABSTRACT. Vascular Parkinsonism (VP) is a form of secondary Parkinsonism resulting from cerebrovascular disease.
Estimates of the frequency of VP vary greatly worldwide; 3% to 6% of all cases of Parkinsonism are found to have a
vascular etiology. In a Brazilian community-based study on Parkinsonism, 15.1% of all cases were classified as VP, the
third most common form, with a prevalence of 1.1% in an elderly cohort. Another Brazilian survey found a prevalence of
2.3% of VP in the elderly. VP is usually the result of conventional vascular risk factors, particularly hypertension, leading to
strategic infarcts of subcortical gray matter nuclei, diffuse white matter ischaemic lesions and less commonly, large vessel
infarcts. Patients with VP tend to be older and present with gait difficulties, symmetrical predominant lower-body involvement,
poor levodopa responsiveness, postural instability, falls, cognitive impairment and dementia, corticospinal findings, urinary
incontinence and pseudobulbar palsy.

George W. Bush stated very clearly in his biography of his father that his father's memory is shot, he remembers little of his presidency, he is extremely frail and elderly and nearly died in 2014, and that although he attempted to get his dad to assist with the book he could not do so in any meaningful manner. And this was from 2015. Surely it's worse now.

They don't have to say anything more, if journalists would do some basic research they would find that paragraph and realize what's going on here. You're completely misinterpreting my comment. When I say reasonable, I'm not asking the women to endure this. What they should have done is asked him to please stop RIGHT THEN, and gone to his aides and discussed the matter with them and indicated such behavior is unwelcome and inappropriate RIGHT THEN.

Instead, they waited four years. FOUR YEARS, long past the time the guy is able to defend himself. Then, instead of calling up his aides or writing a letter directly to complain about the incident in light of Harvey Weinstein, they went to INSTAGRAM to post about it and humiliate and bully a defenseless old man who is very sick. When the public reaction was not what was expected, one did the right thing and deleted her post. Going on instagram was cowardly, pure and simple, and that was the unreasonable part I'm talking about.

It's never nice to be touched in a way you don't want. It's also not fun to be on the receiving end of abuse from someone who has dementia. The fact that these girls could not tell the difference between a sexual predator and someone who is losing their inhibitions because they are elderly and SICK, is really, really sad.

In fact, one of the women said she actually didn't think anything of it at the time and it never crossed her mind that was a problem until now. Well, she got very confused by this month's conversation, probably because she's dumb, because nobody was talking about old people with dementia when they were talking about sexual predators. That's not the direction any of the discussions anywhere has taken. They are either dumb as a box of rocks or dumb as bricks or just really really sheltered.

It is not George Bush's fault that his aides and wife did not take a more proactive role in making sure he did not embarrass himself. I'm really sorry that happened to the women. Yeah, it stinks when people aren't themselves anymore, and caregivers struggle with how much you want to hide them away like they are broken for fear something might go wrong in public, or let them be happy. Imagine for one moment being in Barbara Bush's shoes and the love of your life just wants to get out there like the old days and meet people and this is all that makes him happy and keeps him going, and you are forced to lock him away on the off chance he might grab somebody's butt. Sigh, it's not so simple. My dad says inappropriate things at times, but we've chosen not to lock him away and are banking on our dearest friends and family having compassion and understanding and not going behind our backs and complaining on twitter about it years later.

Everyone could have gone the extra mile here. The women could have been more compassionate about his situation, the aides could have been more vigilant about his changing behavior. There is nothing at all inconsistent about being outraged over a sexual predator, but not so much over an old man.

Again I say, good luck to you when you are old. Hopefully these women aren't your caregivers.

They're often not following it very well are they.

He got dementia and Parkinson's BECAUSE he's old, so that's why we're talking about him being old. I suppose we should leave old out of it, because he could be 45 years old and come down with dementia and Parkinson's, and then we would just call it bad genetics. It doesn't matter how he got the things he has, the point is it has altered his brain to the point where he has forgotten, FORGOTTEN his presidency. According to his own son, George W.

It kind of makes me tear up to think that both Reagan and HW Bush forgot their presidencies. Now all that's left of that time is for the ages.
