Discussion Thread: A Haunting at the Gosselins 7/10/2017

The Gosselins invite their friends over for a Halloween party and turn their barn into a haunted house; Kate stresses about party planning, food prep and costumes while trying to deal with guests arriving before everything is ready.

In addition to all that, I think she sounds tone deaf when she complains about luxury things like housekeeping. Does she not understand it's a luxury? A want not a need? A rarity for most parts of the country??

Does she not understand that a huge number of people will never be able to afford a housekeeper? That a lot of people somehow manage to keep up with the cleaning in their home with full time jobs, overtime, kids, etc.
*****
I also believe Kate's being slick about semantics. I don't believe for a second that Kate doesn't have a cleaning service (and lawn service and pool service). I think she's bitching about no having staff anymore.
Still, the former is not something many people can afford.

Kate's needs are all about Kate.

As seen on FB. It doesn't get more delusional than this. K8 herself could have written this.

XXXX If you had to do the work required of her, I'd whine too. Unfortunately, without financial support this is the sole means she can provide for them. Sadly, before these options women who were left with multiple children as the sole parent had to do many things against their morales, dreams, or plans for their lives. Consider yourself blessed not to be in her situation. Her one son requires supervision, therapy and specialized care that is very expensive. Dr. Phil, Steve Harvey, Oprah, & Bischop T. D. Jakes all stated divorce changes children negatively especially when their fathers are not actively involved. Jon cheated instead of choosing therapy & only has added to her stress. None of us truly knows her journey, but I do know every child loves her despite her flaws. Raising children w/ groceries costing so much alone is something I know would be a huge stress factor. I don't see her being selfish. I wish she wouldn't make such huge plans as this Halloween Party was too extreme that she put too much on herself took away from her children's joy for preparing this event. That's a fault in her "Type A" personality.....but it might also be a pressure to please audiances to keep income coming in for this show's continuance because she has a house of uncoopetative teenagers. Lets give her some praise or encouragement to continue as I don't know of anyone else willing to provide for all of those kids for $0 pay for 18hr days 365 days X 22yrs when graduation occurs. Lets pray she finds courage to endure despite 8 children all yelling at her at the same time........ can you even imagine what that would feel like after 16yrs of no help? I'd be doing more than whining......🤔.....lets pray📿

But, initially, I think she did have a good out that most people would have been supportive of, and that is to say that the filming is not in Collin's best interest and so out of concern and love for Collin, they are taking a temporary, possibly permanent hiatus in order to best support him and his needs.
******
I think most people did support Kate, the poor single mom with an unruly or dangerous kid. Many people can see themselves in that scenario.
The difference here is that we smelled a rat and used to half-jokingly say that one day she'd kid one of the kids to the curb because she's done it to everyone else.

The permanence of this decision is starting to sink in, whereas the veranda sussed it out as soon as it happened.

Jon might have acknowledged that, but it was Robert who saw first-hand how Kate is a SLOB and Jon is actually quite the neatnik.

Right, because before reality tv the only thing women could do to support their families was prostitution. Shaking my head.

No it isn't. The Dilley and McCaughey parents didn't need reality TV shows to support their now adult children and not one, but TWO of the McCaughey septuplets have special needs. And the Hayes had their two seasons of Table For 12 and went back to their normal lives.

&&&

And, what proof do the sheep have that Kate is paying for Colin to be in treatment?

I'm BETTING SHE DOESN'T.

Maybe the sheep don't realize this, but there are rather easy ways to finagle these problems so that the school district is paying the bills.

Kate is savvy. She pulled him out of private school and I believe had that boy going through public school, and that way, she could eventually finagle the free services.

I've seen school districts pay thousands and thousands of dollars a month for treatment like this. Happens all the time.

Sheep, wake up. She's too giddy about this for it be hurting her wallet. It's not. We would hear a whole hell of a lot more resentment from her about this if she were paying.

The kids are all 13+ now. No reason they can't stay by themselves for a while so Kate can go back to work as a nurse. My sister is a nurse she makes good money working in a local doctor's clinic. She is never on call, extremely rarely has to deal with life-threatening emergencies, and has regular working hours. She can be there for her kids from 5:00 to bedtime and also get them off to school in the mornings.

Would it be enough money to sustain living in a million dollar compound, private schools, and the travel Kate wants to do? Probably not. It also requires the commitment to be at work every weekday on a regular schedule; no lounging in bed for hours after the kids are gone to school. However, with proper financial management of the funds the kids have already earned for doing the show a decade she could easily have a fully paid for house and all she would have to worry about was utilities, taxes, and upkeep. A nurse's salary would be more than adequate to provide a good life for her and her kids under those circumstances and would give her a good earnings potential for the next 25 years.

Moreover, Kate could have advanced her degree and set herself up for a nice career track in management and administration.
There are several nurses in my family who have advanced from floor/clinical to admin and research and are making a VERY nice living.

Looks like that screeching clown really did get back at the state for taking the State Nurse away from her. Wow. How diabolical is that? Take your son out of a private school and put him in public school just to get his treatment for free.

She has plenty of money to pay for it. She wouldn't be paying his school tuition at the private school. That money for the private school should of been paid toward Collin's treatment that he is getting now.

Not taking advantage of PA taxpayers, again.

Reminds me of Scarlett in GWTW saying, I will never go without state help AGAIN!

History repeats itself.

I just hope wherever Collin is that he is healthy, happy, can see his dad, siblings and is eating and progressing with his treatment very well. And that whoever the people (team) is treating him, really care about him and want the best for him.

What is that sheeple on FB thinking? 0 pay for 18 hour days, 365 days per year for 22 years? She would not be working for nothing, the very idea is ridiculous and they know it. It's like they think if they say it, someone has to believe it. Well, we don't. She can work, she can make money without exploiting the kids, and making ridiculous claims don't change that fact.

Kate's whining about lack of a housekeeper or babysitter is just insane. I think she truly believes what she stated long ago--that society is responsible for taking care of the kids. She did her part when she gave birth. She thinks she's such a martyr that she needs to be provided with piles of money and someone to cook, clean, do her laundry, iron, and take care of the kids, yard, and pool for her. Which reminds me--she did have all those things, even a "laundry girl", someone who came in to fold for her, someone to iron, and a personal assistant. She is desperate to recapture those days, and just can't accept that they are over. All I can say is--suck it up, buttercup. We all make sacrifices, especially for our kids. I posted last year when DH and I were looking for a country home in PA (and I still have all of your recommendations written down). But two of our kids have voiced interest in law school/medical school. Providing that for them is our priority, and we are now working hard to save enough to pay for them to pursue their dreams. The kids and their futures are the most important things. She just does not seem to comprehend that fact. The parents' wants take a backseat--it's part of being a parent.

Not to mention retirement. What is she planning to do about retirement/401K funds? I seriously doubt that TLC is providing that for her. She wrote in her diary about being "old and gray (and probably still filming", but that does not look like it's going to happen. At some point she will retire, and with nothing but social security to live on, she's not going to be happy. She's far too spoiled at this point to even downsize. Living on a very small fixed income would drive her insane!

If this is what she did, put him into public school for one year so that she could take advantage of public funding for where he is now (I think most of us assumed he was being home-schooled for that period), then she is a lot more despicable than I even imagined. What a disruption for the poor kid, to have to go to an entirely new school---ALONE---and then be pulled out after a year and shipped off to God knows where. That boy's whole childhood has been a living hell. Kate has a lot to answer for, on Collin's behalf alone, if any of this is true.

She can't control them, and I hear fear in her voice if the dogs go near one another. As I know it's been mentioned, they aren't trained, and that's why their house is a maze of baby gates.

And Milo mentioning something about not embarrassing the dog by talking about some fur being shaved - is she for real? I mean, this woman is certifiable. What an idiot.

Layla said...

Now that we know that TLC isn't filming for awhile, I think we were right about Kate's comment about the kids doing NOTHING this summer. Very passive-aggressive. She's furious that the kids are spending the summer relaxing instead of filming non-stop. She doesn't have many more summers to work them like crazy before they reach adulthood. She knows that when they become adults, they will all be able to demand their fair share of filming money and she won't get a huge paycheck just for herself. She's got to make the most of the time she has left. And then TLC went and pulled the rug out from under her. Nice move on TLC's part.

Our dog groomer, who was in business for 40 some years, had been a professional handler and studied vet medicine, always said that dogs know when they are groomed, and if they have to be shaved (because of mats, skin problems) are really self-conscious about it because they know something happened. ---------------------------------
I agree 100%. I had originally said she probably couldn't afford the million dollar compound and associated niceties she likes to enjoy. What I was saying is she could have a nice house appropriately sized for her family that was completely paid for by the earning from the show.

While certainly not cheap, a four or five bedroom house on an acre or two of land in an area with a good public school would not be unreasonable. A mortgage is typically the biggest family expense and not having to worry about that makes life a whole lot easier.

With a reasonable house, no mortgage, and no private school tuition I do think a nurse's salary would be sufficient to provide for her family.

MikeB said...

Oops, forgot to add this to my last post. Ratings for Outdaughtered aren't as good as I would have expected. They had commercials running across almost every cable channel. I even saw ads on Food Network.

Despite all the hype the show only pulled in 1.479 million viewers and a 0.46 rating. It was the third highest ranked cable show of the night though, so that may simply reflect people doing things besides watching TV. The follow up show, Rattled, dropped to just over a million in the next hour.

I hate to say it but comparatively Kate's numbers weren't all that bad especially given the disparity in advertising. Next week's ratings will be key. If Kate can keep above 900K and Outdaughtered doesn't improve quite a bit I don't think TLC will have any problem whipping up a quick summer vacation episode to film in late August or over Labor Day.

I think at one point TFW stated that Mak and Shoka didn't get along so she couldn't have them in a room together. I wonder how that works when they're roaming the property and if there are fights. I know that she had #NookiePookie spayed but I wonder if she had Mak neutered. Two unaltered males in the house could lead to problems.

As far as the baby gates go, we still use them if we're leaving the bully alone for an extended period of time. One gets thrown on the "good" couch and the other is put in the doorway to our room. He's a well known shoe thief and loves to get our shoes if he can. He's only 14 months old so he's still a baby and he'll grow out of it. But, we only use two gates not the fucketybillion that TFW seems to use and they're never up if we're home with him. Sheesh, train the dogs!

Based on the ads I saw last night, TLC seems to be trying out more adult shows--90 Day Fiance, Spouse House, etc. If TLC can come up with programming that doesn't feature screaming babies, children, and bratty teens, Schmoopy's show might disappear entirely and the Busbys' run might be shorter. I would hope the Busbys are paying attention.

Susan 41 - yes! I knew I remembered something from the guy before Jon. Thank you!
***********************
You're welcome. I still swear there was another interview in which he said she expected to be waited on hand and foot and didn't really contribute to the household, but I can't find it.

I found it interesting that she lived with this guy after her abortion and was already pestering him to have kids. Even though she was in nursing school, it doesn't seem she had the knowledge or funds to pursue her dream of multiples. Or maybe she knew she needed to hold out for someone with more $$. But this guy was a year younger, still in high school, so she was already targeting 'younger', less mature men she could manipulate.

I was looking for something in the book and I found this:

July 2006

Kate said that little Alexis got injured and Collin brought her a drink without being asked to. She thought it was nice of him and she praised him because according to her he gets more negative attention than positive. She said he is so naughty and she really doesn’t know how to handle him!!!!! She says that she needs to show him more love!!!!!

There was no need to patronize me with the "it's very complicated" remark. If it is determined that a child needs an educational placement that is institutional, neither the public nor the private school setting can handle that so having the child in public school doesn't make a difference.

&&&&

I understand you're saying you're not prohibited from milking the system directly from private school, but what I'm saying is that if you want to streamline all of this, go public.

Public schools are mission control for IEPs, and that is a crucial component in making the taxpayers pay your bills.

What does it matter anyway, point is she figured out how to get the state to pay for Collin and is having the last laugh after they denied her services when they were babies. Kate will always have the last word. The false premise here is the sheeple applauding her for paying for Collins' treatment. They are ignorant at best.

The Huffington Post is reporting that Clay Aiken, who was a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice (2012), said that Donald Trump did not decide who was to be fired, NBC made those decisions. The boardroom scenes were staged. So much for "reality" TV.

&&&&

I think that's pretty normal for most competition shows. I'm pretty sure the show has the standard disclaimer all of these type of shows have about production consulting off camera about eliminations. I can't remember the wording, but they all have them.

Kate’s one-time fiancé, Adam Miller, said that Kate pressured him into marriage, but he broke up with her after he caught her cheating on him – at her 21st birthday party – with a guy who had even more money to offer her. He had a Corvette!

Adam also shared that “Kate was always chasing the money.
I spoiled Kate with gifts, like a diamond bracelet and a gold locket, and she loved that. I think of the main reasons she liked me is that I had so much money flowing.

He said, My friends didn't like her.

Adam also said that sweet little Katie Irene, from a church pastor's home and upbringing was a "sex kitten," and that she became very possessive."

So it appeared that Katie had found a great guy in Adam, who showered her with money and gifts, moved her into his family's home, and was going to marry her, like she wanted. So what did she do? She cheated on him. She tired to trade up for bigger and better, with a guy who had a Corvette.

Remember, Kate wanted a dr. at this point, but until she found one, she would settle for anybody with money.

After Katie realized that all the Corvette guy wanted was sex from a younger girl, and nothing more. No wife, no babies, no future, Kate RAN BACK to Adam, who now wanted absolutely nothng to do with her. So Kate devised a complicated plan to get Adam back: she would date one of his friends to make him jealous.

Kate started dating a guy named Jason Lentz, who just happened to know Adam. Jason said, Kate brought up marriage and kids, 3 months into their relationship.

Jason added, Kate was spending weekends at the home that he shared with his mother. Kate did not pay for a thing, and his mom waited on Kate, HAND AND FOOT. She expected people to take care of her.

After 3 months of games, pressuring him into marriage and children, Jason learned that Kate had been calling Adam to get back together. Adam told Jason that she had been calling him to get back together.

Kate then dumped Jason and moved on in search of her next victim.

After Adam and Jason, Kate bounced from guy to guy and at one point even living with 2 guys at the same time.

Bummer.

Add American Pickers to the bummer list.

I loved AP until I found out that when they are haggling over the price of their finds, everything has already been settled between Mike & Frank and the seller.

That really hurt. I really believed that it was the actual negotiation.

Haven't watched them in a couple of years since. My favorite show is the one with William Shatner and his wife redecorating a room for an office.

They found him a big millstone to put in the back yard that turned out beautiful.

The articles I've read went on to say that the decision who to fire each week was made by the producers and the celebrity's Q rating was often a factor. The article below does not mention the Q rating, but Clay provides some good insight into how The Donald operated/operates.

They all have them. I remember first observing this on Project Runway, which had 3 judges.
Contestants are characters cast each season.
If the show will benefit from keeping certain people on for a few more episodes, they'll do their best to keep them around.

Mostly, all of these are just scripted "reality".

The home buying shows are all staged, too. The buyers have already bought, so it's all for show.

This STUNS me! I wouldn't put Josh on camera talking about his used car lot, let alone attraction/love/relationships.
Are these people nuts?

Also, what did Kate say about being thin and it being so important?
She hinted to next week, wink, wink.

When you compare kate's IG to say, Amy Roloff's, Kate seems pathologically unable to overcome inertia.
Amy is active and engaged and seems to be firing on all cylinders.
I believe Amy is older than Kate and of course, has the challenges of being a little person.
Kate is holed up in her bedroom where her kids need to seek her out instead of her being engaged with them.

Does being thin feel better than having the energy to be engaged in life with your kids?

Eat a cheeseburger!

The two girls from Jersey Shore, Snooki and JWoww, both said they would not want their kids to be on reality TV. They said that you act differently when you're on camera, it's not normal life, and they want their kids to have normal childhoods. Didn't Kate say that anyone who says they wouldn't want their kids on reality tv just say that because they don't know any better and they're just jealous? But Snooki and JWoww do know better, and they both chose to give their children the gift of a normal childhood. Good for them.

Well, I didn't grow up at the shore--I'm an Iowa girl originally--but I did attend the World's Biggest Beach Party at No-Wa-Wa beach in Williamsburg, IA in 1986. My friends and I spent hours sitting in the trucked-in sand, our feet cooling in one of the many kiddie pools scattered around the farm, and listened to the likes of Jan and Dean. Iowans know how to create fun!

I bet she haaaaates having them underfoot all summer. Do they do anything fun as a family without the cameras rolling? And what about those one-on-one days? At 13 and almost 17, she really could spend a day with each of the 7, and leave the others home alone. And it doesn't have to be some expensive outing -- something as low key as a picnic at the park, a bike ride, a hike, exploring a book store, window-shopping at the mall, etc., would be a lovely bonding thing. Of course someone will say, "Just because she doesn't say it, doesn't mean she doesn't do it." And to that person I will say, bless your heart...

Thank you, Susan1956.

Yes, she was pretty wild back then. IMO

It all started with the McCaughly book. She became obsessed with finding someone rich to take care of her and produce as many babies as possible for all of the free stuff that rained down on the McCauleys and she wanted that Genie in a Bottle, rub it raw, until she got what she wanted.

But the difference in TFW and the McCauglys is class. They are humble, nice, good people, not takers. They donated tons of things to their community.

Robert said TFW has 3 versions of meeting Jon at the picnic. She has 3 different versions.

Just unbelievable.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Sad but true (#95), good grief, is Gladys still fixated on that bed picture? And of course it would never occur to her that TFW was just posing as if she was asleep. Something tells me a real candid picture taken by M without Mommie Dearest's permission would be deleted.

OMG, Yes!! 100 likes for this. What a humanitarian this man and his wife are!

Kate, the old "exhausted" narrative is getting old. You're not changing diapers, feeding, and bathing toddlers. Give us a break. How about this - why don't you try working a regular job during the week in the summer, figuring out activities for your kids to do during the day while you are at work, getting home and making dinner, spending time with your kids, and tackling any housework if there's time. At this age, the only time you having more kids than most people is more onerous, would be making dinner. And by the looks of most of your food posts, you make a shit ton of casseroles, so, in reality, it's not that much more work.

Your kids are old enough to get their own breakfast/Lunch, make their beds, do the umpteen chores you already have them do, do laundry, etc.

I have my family over a lot in the summer. Making dinner for 16 ppl is not a bigger deal than normal dinners - throw on a few more burgers, make a bigger salad, marinate a few more pieces of chicken, etc. AND - you've been doing this for 13 years already - still haven't got the hang of it?

You only have your sheeple fooled. Most of us already have your number.

Sad but true said...

olivia_angeloff Kate! You watch BB? That's awesome! How do you keep up with a show that's 3 nights a week with all those teenagers!?

Yeah, THAT's a good question. My guess is, this qualifies as "work," since that'll probably be her next RTV attempt. She's running out of options.

Layla said...

FlimsyFlamsy (98)
But you forget, Kate doesn't do charities. What was it she said years ago? She doesn't have the money to donate to all of them, so she doesn't donate to any. And we know she only puts in manual labor for charitable causes when she's being filmed and collecting a paycheck for it.

Without TLC filming this summer, she probably won't take the kids anywhere. If she has to pay for it, then it doesn't happen. And if this break in filming lasts a long time, the kids will be back to eating expired cereal and staring at the walls.
