Recap: 'School's Out!' Jim Boobs gets locked in a room without a muzzle and bitches her way out

Coming up on Kate Plus 8. Which I guess was cancelled, then back for some specials, now back for a "season"? I liked the olden days, like in the 90's, where when your favorite show was cancelled it really was dead and you mourned and cried and then moved on and found a new and better show and hoped maybe someday you'd see those people again at an autograph trade show you stumble upon in a Burbank mall.

Anyway, coming up there will be a lot of whining and arguing and drama, and the comment of the day goes to the lovely Leah, who, arms crossed, quips, "This show should be called Kate Plus Kate." Baw! The kids are finally old enough to get it, and it's glorious.

They heavily promote the terribly awkward Bachelorette date complete with a NYC helicopter ride. Oh, they know that's the pinnacle moment of the "season." The budget was all in on that episode. At least the guy seems very nice for an actor, although I half expect him to hand her a head shot at the end of the night in case she's ever interested in booking him again.

Kate doesn't know what's the proper way to say goodnight at the end of the date. Is this really that hard? Maybe it is for someone who doesn't experience emotion. Usually a polite hug is fine, whether you like him or her. If there's sparks and it was a really spectacular date, a little kiss is appropriate. Kate however shuffles into her limo, the inside glowing with halogen blue lights, and gives him a little acrylic finger wave, avoiding eye contact. Not even a full wave, just a forefinger. She will never get married again if she can't even wave with her full hand at the poor guy.

There's a lot of blah blahing about the beach and how she's sure many families like going to the beach during the summer. Many families could never possibly afford to go to Florida for 10 days in the summer let alone go to the beach every year as she says they do, but she's tone deaf to that.

The kids, the girls namely, pretty much give her lip to everything she asks them to do. The kids are going to pack their own bags for the first time ever? Aren't they 11 and 14?? I wonder if they will also get to feed themselves on their own this year, and even wipe themselves. Geez.

Kate is explaining all this in excruciating detail, without a stitch of make-up on. She is really getting comfortable with the cameras. We flash back to another recent 1 percent boring vacation in Mexico. I keep thinking of the great Betty White, who once said of Facebook, "In my day, seeing pictures of peoples' vacations was considered a punishment!" Oh, it's still a punishment here, Betty.

They head to an unnamed department store because the store probably wouldn't give their permission to use their name. Looks like a JC Penney or Bon-Ton, one of those places that has "semi-annual" home sales semi-weekly. In the parking lot they're all walking just fine, two and three-abreast and relatively close to the parked cars. No other cars are driving around. Kate barks that she wants them to walk away from the middle of the "street" and walk "single file." The kids mostly just ignore her, which is hilarious. Actually, one of my pet peeves is circling the parking lot looking for a spot and there are people walking in the middle of the road you can't get around. You feel like it would be a little much to beep at them, especially when they're bogged down with several shopping bags, yet you don't want to crawl around at 2 mph for the next 30 yards either following behind them waiting for them to get to their car and get out of your way. But since there are no cars circling to be found, is it really worth nagging them about this?

Aw, poor Joel has a back ache and feels sick to his stomach, but according to Kate, he wanted to go shopping anyway. I find it rather disturbing Joel asks his mother for permission to sit down. He has to ask her? Just sit down if you want to sit down. You're her child, not her hostage.

Joel, bored with the coach conversations about this, says I just didn't feel good.

But, but, tell us more. Did you puke? Was it everywhere? What was your temperature? Is it rabies, or amebic dysentery? The sheeple want to know. Autocorrect to this day still wants to change sheeple to something else, this time it was "shekel." Well, tis the season! L'Chaim!

Kate immediately had thoughts of he's sick and, literally, "oh my gosh we have to travel tomorrow!" but then immediately realized she literally doesn't care if someone is sick and they have to travel tomorrow because typically what does that matter. For someone so organized, should they be buying luggage the day before a big vacation? I always like to wipe down new luggage and let it air out a few days to get the formaldehyde smell out. Plus what if they don't have what you're looking for? You'll have to take your old luggage on the trip and that would be just terrible.

Kate was hoping for six different colors of luggage. I don't know how realistic that hope is unless you shop online. Isn't it funny how dated this process already seems, going to a box store and picking out luggage?

How do you read reviews and know which ones the wheels fell off within six months or the zipper broke? What if you pick something out and realized later it only has 2 1/2 stars, or what if you saw it online for 20 bucks cheaper plus a coupon code? That would suck. These days you go try out the luggage in the box store then go home and buy it online, and box stores are desperate to figure out what to do about that. In any case I would be happy to just watch Kate browse luggage on Amazon for the same amount of time we watch her go through these shenanigans in this store, it can't be much more boring and at least poor sick Joel could go to bed.

Different colors helps keep everything organized. I get that, but wouldn't it be easier to just tie six different colored ribbons on the handles? Surely there is a Joann Fabrics nearby to help with that.

Aaden and the girls really want to buy some stuffed animal neck pillows. That strikes me as rather babyish but I guess whatever makes them happy. Another girl is approaching Kate with a memory foam travel pillow. Memory foam? Lol. I'm sure that makes a hell of a lot of difference 14 hours into a trans-Pacific flight. What's next, the twins want to buy Rachel Ray's garbage bowl? The kids are behaving as if a lot of whining and begging has gotten Kate to cave before. And I bet it has, because they hold some serious collateral on her.

They finally decide on their bags, and it looks like she gave in on the neck pillows, heh. This segment was only about four minutes but it sure felt like four hours. I can't really get a good look at the luggage nor know much about any luggage but my own, but some of the posters here said it is pretty expensive. Naturally. Unless you go to a discount place like Target or Walmart, luggage often is crazy expensive and I'm not sure why. Seems a little scammy.

Commercials! Tomorrow they're going to Flar-ida. Heh, you can't take the PA out of the TFW.

The little kids are going to pack their luggage? Who? The 11-year-olds? I took 41 11-year-olds to Sydney last July, six adult chaperones, and no one was nearly this helpless with their luggage.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I could have sworn either TLC or Kate vowed many years ago never to film in the children's bedrooms. I recall them being smug about it too, like of course we wouldn't do that how dare you suggest that! Yet here we are, in their bedroom, filming. They talk to a male production member, a producer or camera man I suppose, about the inexplicably boring subject of packing their own bags. We have, literally as Kate would say, been talking about this subject the entire episode. Just this subject. The door is closed. Sigh.

You know, the whole house is very cluttered in general. It's not Little People level, but it's getting there. That would drive me nuts. There are kitchen gadgets and various crap all over the kitchen, and their bedroom floor is covered with American girl paraphernalia. They have lots of cabinets, shelves and other storage materials, put things away. Kate doesn't work, surely she has time for a little tidying up every day.

The twins tease Alexis about how she rotates the same three outfits over and over. That's common for a child that age and not a big deal as long as you wash them. She'll outgrow it. That's nothing, often boys her age want to wear the same one outfit over and over. Cara has some graphic on the bodice of her shirt that they must not have gotten permission to show because they blur it out, but it's in her bodice area so there's this weird constant blur on poor Cara's chest right where they would tend to blur the Girls Gone Wild women on those commercials. Sheesh.

Mady tries to help Alexis branch out and try out some different outfits just like those montages in the movies where the girl tries out lots of different looks. Where are these outfits coming from? This makes Alexis very uncomfortable, she thinks the outfits are "harsh" and "ugly" but this is a normal sister thing to do I suppose. I think they should leave her alone and let her wear what she wants, but sisters never do. If Collin is the child singled out from the boys, Alexis is singled out from the girls. All the other sisters treat her differently, like she's odd. I feel awful for her.

Well that didn't take long, Kate has taken over the packing for the boys. Lol.

There's a lot of harmless teasing and joking among the kids, and it's a relief to see. At least some of them seem to enjoy and appreciate each other instead of everyone hating each other all day long.

Kate is still going on about the packing like this is interesting, gesturing widely with her fake nails. You know what's harsh and ugly? Those things.

Is that a black and white professional photo of Jon in the background, kissing one of the newborns? I think I see a candle on the shelf there too. That must be the butsudan to him, may he rest in peace Amen.

The packing shockingly went well, Kate opines. But she stepped right in and fixed it all, so what does she mean?

Andrea, the childcare girl Kate can't give the respect to call their nanny, is going on the trip with them and she also went with them to Australia and Mexico. I don't remember her at all. Marley is going with the twins as their bribe. Kate says she knows they've been to the beach a lot but that's where the kids want to go, and Kate loves it, too. Funny, in the preview Mady clearly says she hates the beach. Or maybe her kids just want to go where ever makes her, Kate, happy, because it's just easier that way.

They talk at length about how excited the kids were to find out they were going to the beach. They shook the floor with excitement. Really? After Mexico and the other fun swag and trips they've gotten this year they're still this engaged? Color me surprised. Why do I get just a little bit of satisfaction about seeing that harpy having to fly coach these days, and in the back of the plane too? Lol.

Kate assigns them their rooms in their gorgeous house rental. Is she looking at a notation on her phone for this or is she just using it for a flashlight? Number one, she can't remember the assignments by memory? Number two, can't she just assign them on the fly if she must? I've never seen someone waste so much effort being "organized."

Aaden, Joel and Alexis together? I feel like they're getting a little too old to have to shack up with opposite genders. Not that anything inappropriate would happen, but it's just a matter of respecting a child's privacy and understanding they're getting to the age where everything is embarrassing including having to room with your brothers. Alexis looks dismayed. Well that sucks.

I haven't the foggiest idea why Kate is arguing with the twins about the room assignments. They're not paying, they have a nice room they don't have to share with the opposite gender, deal with it.

The ungrateful twins are upset over something or other they never explain, to which Kate says she has to share a bathroom with five girls and three boys, so this is fair. God, I hate when I agree with Kate. This is a beautiful house, any room is a good room, who cares?

The bottom line is though, this is not a discussion. You don't negotiate with teenagers on nonsense like this. It's clear these girls perpetually feel slighted, and maybe in many ways they have been over the years. But when you start seeing slights in virtually anything your parent ever does, it gets exhausting for the parent.

I think a huge part of Kate likes this drama. She likes to see the twins get strung out, and then she likes explaining the justification behind her wonderful ideas for them as they get even more upset. I think she likes the power she has over them. She won't just tell them this is your room, deal with it, and walk away, because that's not dramatic and interesting. The twins suggest Kate take this room, and Kate refuses. Part of me wants to yell at the screen to just switch rooms and end this. But now I'm thinking no, teenagers don't get to tell their mother how it's going to be, even if their mother is Kate and she might deserve it. The teens could ask her nicely if she would consider the merits of taking this room and switching, but she doesn't have to if she doesn't want to. That's not how they approached it though. They were not polite. They were rude and whined and treated Kate like Kate was being cruel to them when she wasn't. Kate's right on this. And a lightning bolt just struck me down.

The kids are all hugging Kate and thanking her. For what? TLC paid for this and likely planned all of it, do they still not understand that? They understand a lot else. I think Mady at least was being a little sarcastic there. Or patronizing. Funny.

Commercials, and we're back. They're staying in what I would call a gated golf course community popular in Fla-rida beach towns. The rental comes with two extra long golf carts to drive down to the beach. They pile them high with beach stuff and hit the road. The kids are griping the whole ride down. I really don't care what they're whining about this time, I've started to tune them out. A tiny portion of the ride involves getting out onto a main road and then making a left turn to the beach. This scares Kate, and she admits she drove like a granny. Safety's first! Kate cries. I think the expression is "safety first" but I understand what she means.

The kids loved the beach and the water. Alexis is so bored talking about all this on the couch she tosses her head back and clutches her forehead. Betty, please pass the sangiovese, we still have 30 minutes to go of this.

Just like in the preview Mady says she hates the beach and always has, including the sand, swimming, and outside in general. Lol. She's kind of an indoor girl, as Jack Dawson would say.

As they head back to get some lunch, the older girls were, wait for it, stopped and chatting with three boys. There must be at least a couple yards distance between the two genders.

"No, that's not okay with me," Kate says. It's not okay with her the twins talk to boys from more than an arm's length away? Why, Jim Boob? I mean, Boobs.

Mady and Cara explain that the boys were simply asking what was being filmed. That sounds credible. Seems like that will often happen when you bring an entire production crew onto a quiet little beach. Lookie loos are going to be curious and ask. Mady tosses her hair and says she told the boys, "If you want to see more of this, like, watch it!" Cara cracks up. Heh.

For Kate's part, she accuses Mady of flirting. I don't know if I would call that flirting so much as showing off. Either way, Mady didn't do anything wrong.

Commercials. The Duggars are coming back and even Anna is now speaking, holy goodness. Anna says it was heartbreaking to hear what had happened. Which part? Is she talking about the child molestation perpetrated by her husband or the fact that the vicious and vindictive media broke the story? Because the latter is all her sisters-in-law seem to be upset over. I don't know if heartbreaking is so much the word as terrifying for the safety of your three young children. If there's one thing the Duggars have done is give me perspective. Kate seems as harmless as the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz compared to that f-ed up family. Or maybe she's the scarecrow. Whichever one didn't have a brain.

Kate i.e. production found this game Escape Zone where you have 60 minute to solve puzzles and get out of a room. Like we've talked about I've done something similar called Exit Game and it was fabulous. But with Kate at the helm we all can predict how fun this will be.

I don't like Mady's lip about this. She says Kate needs to accept the fact that they are not a team. I have no idea why Mady to this day still feels so antagonistic about the family as a unit but I don't like the younger children hearing such negativity. Not that they don't get it from their mother all the time. This is rich, Kate feels team work is important and that she has to instill the idea of working together into her children. She has done nothing but create divisiveness among the children, how can this woman not see that? I think she intentionally pits the children against each other because she's terrified they might some day band together against her.

She hopes the kids someday will stick together when they're older. Heh, she might not like that if they all decide to estrange her together. Be careful what you wish for.

Sadly, Colin is nowhere to be found during this activity, so I guess it's a family team minus one.

This room is much more cluttered than the Exit Game I played. It's full of colored belts, jackets, helmets, clocks, things posted on the wall, books, white boards. I think you would need a big group to be successful in this room just to sort through all the junk.

Thirty minutes in Kate has already lost it and is snapping and yelling at everyone while just leaning against a counter and not helping. She snatches a book out of Mady's hand and says "Who died and left you in charge?" Wtf! It's just a game, and if Mady wants to take a leadership role in it she can if she darn well wants to. It's not like Kate was contributing much just standing there helplessly.

"We" get stressed and "we" fall apart, Kate explains. You, TFW. You. At least Mady was still trying to solve clues at that point.

"You are stupid," Mady says. I'm not sure who she is saying that to, I think it's Kate.

Commercials, and we're back. Twenty minutes left and they seem to be onto something, and are turning off the lights and finding clues I guess you can only find in the dark. Kate's shouting orders, barking at them, and now that things are actually moving along she's suddenly back in the thick of it instead of along the sidelines feigning a headache. Heh, she's a fair weather Escape Game companion. Those are the worst! Mady remarks that Kate gets way too competitive.

I don't understand why Kate is competitive in this scenario. Competitive against what? They're on the same team, or is she too stupid to understand that. In any case, I found when I played it's best to be calm during the game and not get so frantic. It can help to slow down, read all the clues again, and take your time.

Even one of the girls has to tell her, "It's just a game, Mommy!" Geez Louise, that's what we in child welfare call "parentified."

This room does seem hard. They're flipping through what looks like a periodic table textbook. My word, no thank you.

They're getting all kind of clues up on this TV screen. Wouldn't you know it with two seconds left they break out of the room. Kate was right, this season did bring some twists and turns!

The instructors were amazed they got through with just two seconds left. It's not that amazing. What would be amazing is if they got through this without any hints. They got tons of hints including telling them what to do with the numbers they had. That's not really beating it at all. By the way the instructor said earlier no one makes it out without a hint. No one ever? So maybe they should make the room a little easier then. Some people, like me, preferred to play this game without hints because it's more satisfying that way. Getting through something hard but with a bunch of hints from Big Brother along the way doesn't mean much.

People over 40 shouldn't say holy crap. People over 30 shouldn't say holy crap either for that matter.

They take a photo with a "winners" sign. The kids seem very proud of themselves, so that's nice. Poor little Colin missing all this. He would have loved it.

Commercials, and Kate and the nanny are making Korean bbq for dinner. Did Kate get another nip tuck? Those girls!

Kate said it. She said Voldemort! May he rest in peace.

What are we, Alexis asks curiously? Just mutts, Kate remarks lazily. Opportunity blown. Contrary to popular belief, Kate says, she actually cares about their heritage. Popular belief? Was there polling done on this issue? Lol, what a narcissist! She cares about their heritage, right, which is why she blew off their important question about their heritage just now, heh.

Jon is Korean-Hawaiian. No, no, he's not, dummy. Hawaiian "influences," she says a bit afterward. Yes, that I will give her.

I want them to look at who they are as a good thing, and support it, Kate explains. Why on earth would you ever look upon who you are as a bad thing, especially Korean, which is such a colorful and rich culture and heritage? That should just be a given, like saying my life philosophy is to just be nice to people. TFW doth protest too much.

Kate loved what she made and the kids like it too except Cara who is vegetarian.

So, what is in Kate's Korean bbq? They never explain. I've never made it, only been to Korean bbq restaurants, which I very much recommend if you get the chance to find one. L.A. has a Korea town and I imagine other cities do too.

You know, this is part of why these episodes are so mind numbing. Anything remotely interesting, like their heritage and the Korean bbq ingredients, is glossed over and we spend most of the time watching them pack luggage and then escape a room we don't understand.

Kate is honestly amazed at her dinner. Heh, she's something else. Our Asian dinner is out of the way, Kate says. Yes, get that out of the way right away, please. "Asian" cultural heritage activity: check!

Kate has much more planned for the kids. Sweet, there's more episodes to come from Fla-rida, including potentially, some vomit. The sheeple/shekel will be thrilled.

Great job, Admin.

Thanks so much for the recap! Betty White was right, and your recap was more entertaining than the excruciatingly boring luggage shopping, etc.
Chuck Norris fun facts: he and Bruce Lee were friends, and the other week eh and I were watching a Bruce Lee movie marathon on El Rey network. We saw this 1972 movie Way of the Dragon. It's very entertaining, Bruce Lee in Rome helping a Chinese restaurant that the bad guys want. Bruce s daughter Shannon hosted and said they did guerrilla filming all around Rome because the production had no permits to film anywhere! The climactic battle is in the Coliseum between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris! Chuck plays a bad guy in this movie.
It's a fabulous fight!

Moving the conversation from last post,i gotta be honest and say,i used to be 1 of those fans, that would always make excuses for Kate's behavior.I didn't believe the Gosselin book and my argument was always that if anything in the Hoffman book was true,i would of felt jon would of showed this proof of abuse and she would of been arrested. It wasn't until a Kate hater not only showed me cases where CPS failed to protect the child/children,but they also asked me why Hoffman would of make these accusations without proof and risk getting sued for slander by Kate?I read the lawsuit and Kate never did sue for slander. So that pretty much how i changed my mind about her.If anyone is interested here's the sales for Hoffman's book,i maybe blind, but can anyone tell me if these sales are good? http://www.novelrank.com/asin/B018V1AW2A

Love the recaps! Thank you!

The store was Bon-Ton's. The luggage sign said $129 - $149 I think.

She must not have had any Target coupons.

I also think they must have shut the area down for her....there wasn't another person to be seen the whole time they were in the store. Not even the check out clerk.

And besides, what did they use for luggage for the Mexico trip? They couldn't just use that?

Rumspringa-the beverage of choice on the veranda. there's an actual Rumspringa Brewing Company in Bird in Hand, PA.The term comes from the period when Amish youth can explore other ways of living outside their community.

Jon Gosselin = father of the 8 Gosselin children, who is still living despite what TFW says!

Couples Therapy = CT = VH1 reality show that Jon was on with then girlfriend Liz

Kate Gosselin = TFW The Former Wife (how Jon refers to her) = TCFW The Crazy Former Wife = TFMJG The Former Mrs. Jon Gosselin = Katie Irene Kreider (her maiden name) = KK Katie Kreider = WOS Waste Of Space (how TFW referred to the Grand Canyon, we believe in recycling and it fits) = Shopping Kart (how judge Bruno Tonioli referred to TFW on DWTS after her first dance) = Bitch from Hell (also how judge Bruno Tonioli referred to TFW on DWTS after her Papparazzi dance) = Shmoopie (just because) = sKate (because she is able to skate by on tasks on CA and others who are higher profile get fired) = FSS Freeloading Societal Sponge (thanks Auntie Ann!) &&&&

I was dismayed to see it was an hour. F- me.

I swear to god they spent 25 minutes talking about how the kids are going to pack their own luggage then at the end of it all there's Kate, packing their luggage. Then all of two minutes on the most interesting part of this episode, the Korean bbq. I'm with Alexis: Palm meet forehead.

As I always say I came here as a Kate Gosselin fan then a Jon hating fan.

I love watching J&K I liked Kate then I saw the purse full of lying bills put 2&2 together I took off the rose colored glasses.

LOL the fan need to realize most of the so called haters were once fans who wised up to KK's scam.

I came to the show mid-stream....but recognized the bullying ugly behavior instantly. My DIL is a TFW clone. It's been so painful to watch her mistreat my grandchildren.

I saw right away that TFW wasn't doing any of the work, but bitching about how everyone else didn't meet her standards. And how terribly disconnected she was from the kids.

I wanted to just reach through the screen and hug them, especially Colin and Alexis.

These are the riveting details for the next 2 shows which I got from my cable guide.

12/15 - Florida Fun

Kate and some of the kids try deep sea fishing; Mady and Cara look up recipes for a healthy dinner.

12/22 - What's Old Is New

Kate takes Mady antiquing to find some vintage deals; the whole family goes to an animal show.

So the 12/22 show is when she does the "special day out" thing. And can someone tell me what an animal show is? Is it a circus, a trip to the zoo, a wild game park?

Definitely riveting TV.

Not really. The edited version was selling over 100 a day in the beginning and the last few months just around 2-5 a day. I was hoping for strong sales but it may be hard for some to get it right before Christmas.

I don't know about that.

As for the blurred out t-shirt? It means the company didn't want to pay to have it in the show. I doubt it had anything to do with "permission". TLC is hard up for sponsors. No freebie promotions from them.

Chef, I hadn't really thought of it, but you are so right. So many of the non fans now, myself included, used to be a fan of Kate's, I even went to a book signing. It was her sickening control issues that turned me off to her Then her entitlement. She absolutely disgusts me. I'm glad to read the recaps because I am not watching her crap for one more minute. I watched 5 minutes last week and had to turn it off. Same old, same old.

Since we are reminiscing about when our blinders about sKate fell off, I did a little digging and found my aha! moment.

I'm kinda proud to say that mine was "Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later". (January, 2007) That was the 2nd time they aired; the tummy tuck episode. When I was growing up, I was taught that it was the ultimate of rude to ask for something when visiting other people. Seeing sKate ask for a boob job when the doctor was offering a tummy tuck was like a kick in the gut for me. I was horrified that she had the balls to do that, on camera no less. That's always been a hot button for me.

After that, it seemed to me that her behaviour deteriorated week by week, episode by episode. My friend and I used to discuss her and I called the divorce a year before it happened. To me it was so obvious that that was where they were headed.

It's been almost 9 years and just when you think she can't get any worse, she surprises you all over again.

It doesn't matter how expensive the suitcases were because Kate had gift cards in her French tipped claws (I think I saw THREE). I guess she wanted to make sure she spent NONE of HER coin. And good point, Admin...who buys luggage the day prior to a trip, particularly if you want SIX different colors, LOL.

TLC stinks said...

Funny they had to block out her tee shirt. Couldn't she wear something else or did Cara refuse?

I used to watch all the time, even the marathons. I watched Kate's behavior worsen. My daughter said why are you watching that crap?; there are blogs on the internet about how terrible she is. So I started with Gosselin's Without Pity and Musings from The Moon. I knew then I was not imagining things.

I cannot understand why the heck Kate would take Mady and Cara antique shopping! Are there any antiques in that house? No. Would 15 year old teens be interested ? No.

I don't think I've ever confessed this, but here goes!

I am a hard-core couponer, and I remember actually thinking that I'd start watching the show more carefully to see if I could spot what brands they used, so I could send TFW some coupons. I kid you not. Perhaps that's why I was hit so hard when my own rose-colored glasses were knocked off.

I just got back from Rite Aid, and got $14.83's worth of groceries for 43 cents out of pocket, by
using my accrued Wellness points. Suck it, TFW.

Dmasy said...

Flimsy, your thought was kind. I am just so sure that Kate would have personally thanked you. (Read with dripping sarcasm.)

First time I saw Kate was on the Oprah show. I followed her to TLC and watched some of the first seasons. The children were adorable.

I saw how stingy she was with praise and affection. Her long-suffering attitude seemed so joyless.

Kate photos and stories were everywhere. I kept wondering what I was seeing that didn't match her popularity.

This blog re-enforced my thought process.

I have departed from TLC and Kate shows. I am still here everyday.

I thought the suitcase packing scenes were half the show, or so it seemed. Hannah of course had to go to another store for her special color which turned out to be pink. She also took over Joel's packing who said that was ok, and to go away (couch interview) I guess H was told to do some 'mother' of the others scenes. Leah and Alexis both had purple cases- surprised that didn't cause an uproar. I did feel sorry for sick Joel- why didn't TFW have him lie on the cement floor in a stockroom in case he threw up? Mady's help with clothes for Alexis I thought was kind of mean- A did look kind of silly in what Mady chose- her style is a tee and shorts, perfectly fine for a beach vacation.

PJ, you are welcome!
How I came to this site: older dd came home from college and was talking about this great show on TLC about this really cute young couple and their eight adorable little children. It was on one day and she told me and dh we had to see this, it was so cute. Dh and I sit down on couch and turn the show on, in progress, and the very first thing is a couch session with Mr and Mrs Gosselin, where she is taking to Jon horribly , just putting him down non-stop while he sat there looking so defeated.
My dh, who usually doesn't care what's on tv, got the remote, turned off the tv, and when dd asked why he told her that was no way for a wife to talk to her husband if she expected to stay married. He thought it was an awful example and said he never wanted her to have that show on in our house ever again.
Dd tried to tell us that three family was adorable and that Mrs.Gosselin just teased Jon a lot. Get dad corrected her and said that was not teasing. He went on to tell dd that she should NEVER talk to her boyfriend like that, in such a demeaning, hateful manner. He could not believe Jon would sit still for the abuse, much less agree for it to be filmed to be on tv.
I went looking online to find out why so many people were fascinated by this emotionally abusive wife.
My dd remained a big fan, until the divorce. Now she calls tfmjg a fame whore and has no interest in the kids at all. Dd has a marriage and family of her own, and she took her father's advice and never says anything rude or releasing to her husband.

We're watching Christmas in Connecticut right now on TCM.

The synopsis as per IMDB: "Journalist Elizabeth Lane is one of the country's most famous food writers. In her columns, she describes herself as a hard working farm woman, taking care of her children and being an excellent cook. But this is all lies. In reality she is an unmarried New Yorker who can't even boil an egg. The recipes come from her good friend Felix."

Sounds vaguely familiar.

The book signing I went to was before the divorce but it was clear they were headed that way. The signing was at a Barnes and Nobles. There was a pretty long line. Steve was there standing just to her right. We were told multiple times as we stood in line that we needed to hand her the book a certain way, turned to a certain page and hand it to her and then take it and walk away. We could make one comment, no questions. She looked pretty, before she became a scarecrow (so thin) with the long, bleached hair that looked like straw. She was still thin but her clothes were pretty, not provocative. She was all business. No smiles. I was in a group with other fans at that time but I was fast becoming jaded. When they heard she was going to be in my town they begged me to go. There were others in line who did not like her at all and were hoping to let her know that.

All in all, not a warm and fuzzy or fun evening. Of course, since then, I have turned from being a fan to actively disliking her. The book, by the way, went in the trash a long time ago.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Wow they really relaxed the rules by the time I went to her book signing a few years later in Santa Monica. I don't remember getting any instructions at all, they were just trying to encourage us all to get in line. You could say whatever you wanted and stay as long as rat claws will let you. I guess at that point beggars can't be choosers.

8888888888888888888888888888888

Disclaimer: I never bake in the bread machine. I use it to do the dough part only and then pop it in a bread pan and bake in the oven.

This is my go-to source for how to do that.

http://sewmuch2luv.blogspot.ca/2011/05/how-to-oven-bake-your-bread-machine.html

The recipe I have for pumpernickel is as follows.(2 lb loaf)

2 C water
3 1/2 C bread flour
1/2 C light rye flour
1/2 C dark rye flour
2/3 C Black Russian Mix (Not the cocktail :(. We have a bulk baking store in the area and this is what they sell. I have no idea what's in it)

2 1/2 tsp instant yeast.

Dump all the ingredients into your bread maker and set it on the "dough" cycle.

When it's done, follow the directions linked above.

If you want it to come out sliced you'll have to send a tweet to sKate.

Admin recap fangirl reporting in. This recap has me moving my usual Sunday morning coffee sipping read, Charles Krauthammer, to a later slot. That rarely happens. Some of my favorite lines in this fun read include:

At least the guy seems very nice for an actor, although I half expect him to hand her a head shot at the end of the night in case she's ever interested in booking him again.

Oh, it's still a punishment here, Betty.

That must be the butsudan to him, may he rest in peace Amen.

I've never seen someone waste so much effort being "organized."

Kate's right on this. And a lightning bolt just struck me down.

Betty, please pass the sangiovese, we still have 30 minutes to go of this.

And my absolute favorite:

Kate seems as harmless as the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz compared to that f-ed up family. Or maybe she's the scarecrow. Whichever one didn't have a brain.

Tyvvm Admin. Christmas came early with this.

Good recap, admin. Thanks. She's an enigma that one is, and if diagnosed with a personality disorder, I wonder what it could be. Perhaps it's not just one, but several stacked together...kind of like you can stack coupons on internet checkout. However, in her case, the kids didn't get a very good deal with that one.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

In the recap I didn't mention she looked like Kendra but does she ever. It's almost like she's going no makeup and pulling her hair back more like Kendra....who is quite a bit younger than her as I recall.

When I saw a preview photo for this episode I thought they had mixed up and pulled a photo from Wife Swap, that's how much she looks like her.

If Em is becoming Kate, Kate is becoming Kendra.

My mother, who had the patience of a saint, always said that hangers would be the death of her (it wasn't, though!) and if there were eternal punishment somewhere, it would be having to deal with wire hangers. For me, it would be hanging pinch-pleated sheer curtains on hooks that would really "do me in."

Hannah's MO is that she acts like a helper to mom and does things a particular way like mom. She has been portrayed that way since a toddler. Hannah did seem more mature than her sisters, though.

I think Mady was a pain about dressing Leah. As long as Leah's clothes are clean, Mady should butt out, but then she's a Kate clone.

It was ridiculous when they arrived at the beach house Kate claimed she could not figure out how to turn on the lights and used her phone flashlight. Uhhhhh, they were filming, there is light, and every room has a wall switch. I think they went through the house, decided on bedrooms prior to filming but wanted there to be conflict with the teens. Oh and the kids coming over to Kate and giving her a hug and saying thank you.. that was so set up. My impression was that the show was chopped up due to lots of editing.

I really hope Kate prices herself out of a TV show with all her freebies plus salary.

Thanks for the insight regarding the book signing. I thought she looked so much better back then, too. I believe her clothes came from Ann Taylor, with gift cards from TLC. Rather than paying her cash, they do gift cards. Is that a way around getting taxed?

Yes, those things were always a pain in the butt to hang properly, although still not nearly as exacerbating as listening to Kate's voice either droning on or shrieking at the kids for an hour, right?

Chiming in on when/how I found this blog:
I, too started as a fan, but quickly became uncomfortable seeing the longggg naps the kids took, how they were so well trained to not come downstairs when they woke up (not knowing then that the bedroom doors were locked and/or they were harshly punished if they got up early) and with the strict, regimented mealtimes which didn't appear realistic for a 6 toddler family, I knew everything wasn't exactly 'normal' with this young family and I went looking for more information.

I searched for discussions about J&K+8 and I started at Moon's and was there til the end, I didn't really like GWOP, but I read there occasionally, and I was so glad when Admin started this blog. I've been here, thru various blog designs and URL/name changes, enjoying it immensely, ever since.

A quote TFW from the last episode - "I love to be on a boat. I love to deep sea fish."

Besides the I, I, I selfish nature of her statement and the fact she's got 8 kids, some who have proven to have a problem with seasickness and she should be putting first, I wonder how many times TFW has actually ever 'deep sea' fished in her life. We know of the previous 'vomitous' fishing episode, but when else has she even had the opportunity to do it, that she'd proclaim to be such an aficionado of the activity?

I think she's doing her usual exaggerating and playing to the cameras like being OCD or loving dogs or that she's obsessed with 'giving back', but I wonder how many times she's actually done this.
I'm guessing she's done it 2 times prior to the upcoming episode, at most. Do her fans think she's an expert? LOL Does she think that? The only thing she's an expert about is child exploitation and grifting.

I'm an original 15 Minutes-er too. I first looked for others when they visited the NICU. Before they left, Kate yelled at Jon because he was putting the wrong shoes on the tups. The tups were maybe 18 months or so. Kate brought the "right" good shoes, then yelled because he wasn't putting them on fast enough. Then, when they got out of the van at the hospital, she yelled at him because it was muddy, and the good shoes were getting dirty and he hadn't told her it would be muddy. And the NICU nurses did not seem that thrilled to see them.

Thank you for the recap! I haven't watched since the first special when the tups were babies but I love the recaps. Maybe hypocritical.

There have been a number of comments, this episode and the ones before summer, about the kids seeming to act younger than their age. I have learned a lot from watching some seriously ill children over the last number of years. (This is my opinion not scientific research.) i think children need a certain amount of imagination based play time in order to move on to their next stage of growing up. If they miss that play time due to illness, they will often be playing with younger toys, dolls, etc to complete their quota. That amount may be different for each child but I truly believe it is necessary. Those children can learn to fake it in school, to appear at the "right" maturity level but at home they will go back to their real mental age. Eventually they can start to catch up, depending on the illness, and then the differences disappear.

The Gosselin children are still relying on stuffed animals and wanting what some believe are young toys. The age of giving up stuffed animals varies but the G kids have two problems. First, they don't get love and support from their mother. She should be gently fostering independence. Instead she terrorizes them and refuses them love. Second, they have been working so much of their young lives. It's hard to play and use your imagination when you're being filmed and doing retakes and have all these strangers around. I don't think they've gotten the time to play that they need. They have chores and filming and don't you dare get dirty.

I know there are other children who also don't get to play as children. But it's very unusual for healthy, upper-middle class, privileged children to be lacking in play time. And there it is on tv for us to see.

I hope I'm making sense.

Jeanne 116, what you said makes a lot of sense. I think that there are other factors at work as well. Among them include the demonstrated behavior by Kate in which she infantilized the sextuplets while parentifying the twins. She has never been seen teaching her children anything but then punishes them for not meeting her expectations - a classic double bind. I could go on but want to emphasize that you added important factors to the equation.

Thank you, Jeanne for the insight. It seemed so strange to me that all 6 kids wanted animal neck pillows (as opposed to plain neck pillows). My own reasoning was that the pillows were product placement with hopes of there being a huge influx of Google searches for purchase. Your theory makes more sense.

swingsandroundabouts said...

My history with the Gosselins is much like others here. I stumbled upon a marathon of J&K+8 and began watching a few episodes, one of which was Gumgate. I was shocked at Kate's behavior. I googled a bit and my daughter suggested I google " Where is Aunt Jodi?" which I did. From there I found GWOP, then Moon and then about a year or so later I found 15 Minutes. I've been reading here ever since.

I came for the Gosselin snark but stayed for the rest: the many uses of vinegar, how to peel hard boiled eggs, Joy's travelogues, Rumspringa, recipes, book and tv recommendations, pet adventures, etc. I have learned a lot, laughed a lot and sometimes cried. I care less and less about Kate and more and more about how Auntie Ann will deal with her neighbor.

Such a good blog and such good posters.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I was thinking about what Jeanne said and I'm not sure anyone has every proposed that theory before.

Because the kids work so much like adults do, and are parentified when it comes to Kate, they regress in other areas of their life. They are clinging to aspects of childhood that are more immature because they have been forced in many ways to skip large portions of their childhood. I would be curious to know if other reality show kids or child actors who work a lot act babyish in other aspects of their lives, wanting stuffed animal neck pillows and calling their mom "mommy" all the time and other similar behaviors.

Really cool psychological stuff to ponder.

As far as blogs on blogs, I never wanted to be a blog that just talks about other blogs, which is why I put in rule 4. It's called blogs on blogs or posters on posters, and it was a very firm rule Television Without Pity Used to have that I always thought was a good one. They were a very successful forum so I adopted what I thought they were doing right, which included no blogs on blogs. I always thought that site had one of the best reads on how to handle a large internet community with minimum derailment. They would have entire huge forums that flowed like crazy and only required swiffering every month or so. I modeled my main rules after them, I think it's worked out better that way. In any case, it's really not that often these days this place really goes off the rails, and that makes the daily work that I and my team do very smooth, easy, and usually, quite fun.

I totally agree. I'll add that I think a huge part of the problem is the lack of playtime with their peers. The time at school is inadequate for that kind of development, IMO. Their "free time" is too much under their mother's control. The six-pack are isolated from the real world. Remember, they can't even go to a movie because chaos would ensue. They were rewarded for being babies and found that works best for them. Why mature?

I also think their psyches require the nurturing. They've been stressed to the max by the toxicity of their mother. They need to self-sooth and they've found the stuffed animals to be a permitted outlet.

Another thing that I think has served the G kids poorly is TFW making them settle their own disputes when they just toddlers. Her spin was that it was helping them, but it was the cop out of a lazy mother who didn't want to be bothered parenting them. So they were babied one minute, and then forced into conflict resolution the next. And I think that emotional whiplash has taken its toll
on the kids' development.

For heaven's sake, can we not do this shaming again? If anyone wants to watch Kate + 8, they should feel like they can write about it without being shamed.
YES, we know it adds to the ratings and NO, it won't make a lick of difference with regards to how long this harridan has her precious show.

And they all say the same thing. Kate, dear, it's YOU, not the kids.
It's all about "what are you going to do for me". Not ONE word about what she can offer. Never any mention of love.
I don't think Kate wants or needs to be loved. That's too intangible for her. She wants to be obeyed, waited upon and agreed with.
No sane man wants a selfish woman like that.

TLC Stinks (#159), yes, it's the fact that TFW is repeatedly disingenuous which is maddening. Have a laundry person? Cool. Own it. But don't say you do, and then complain when you come home from a trip that you are surrounded by piles of wash to do. She's really not clever enough to keep up with her lies. But we are clever enough to call her on 'em!

Some doofus interviewing Kate about dating. She is beyond dull, and she's still throwing her kids under the bus.
As if they're the reason a guy wouldn't want to date her.
Perhaps it's the notion the when she's eyeballing you with those shark peepers, she's thinking about unhinging her jaw and swallowing you alive.

“If you treat someone like a king for too long, they’ll start to act like one,” he said.

She doesn't do laundry. She has admitted she has a laundry helper. I'm fine with that because think of all the dirty clothes there are, but then she'll turn around and tweet a picture of a pile of dirty clothes on the laundry room floor and imply she's going to do the laundry after one of their vacations. It's stuff like this that gets me why she has to paint a false picture of her life.

&&&&

She aso once admitted she hasn't gone without a housekeeper since the tups were born. I linked to the interview in my recap of Celebrity Wife Swap. Yet we've never seen this person, she makes it seem like it's just her and says so.

Maybe she has a laundry helper who comes on a regular schedule, but doesn't come extra hours to do the piles of laundry after a trip. It's the only time Kate has to do laundry, so she's really pissed off about it. Pure speculation, but it fits her actions/attitude.

I think Dr. Phil got Kate's number during her divorce. I think he knows how full of it she is.
When he was on The View with Kate co-hosting, he looked like he was keeping his distance. Didn't engage her, not even giving her an ounce of praise for bragging about how her kids didn't know what a Dorito was.

That would save Kate having to lug things hither, thither and yon and hang up clothes that don't belong to her. It just seems to me if any adult saw baby hangers in an 11 year old's closet there would be a trip to Target to fix that. The kids wouldn't care and would just use what was there.

Kate loves her stringy stick hair.
All she wants is some guy who will browbeat her kids into obeying her. That's all. Never one word about someone who will love them, play catch, go to recitals. Nope, just a backup cop to bully them into submission.
I really think there is a silver lining, and that is that I don't think Kate will get married, especially no time soon. If she gets what she claims to be looking for, I hope like hell Jon can get the kids away from The Gulag.

Math Girl, I think you have something here! She really barks and grips about the tons of laundry when they get back from a trip. I didn't see her do the baby hanger segment, but boy what a LOON! The baby hanger gate just proved how disassociated, detached and unloving she is to her sons!

As a mother of 3 sons, I can't imagine treating them like she does hers. It is disgusting and vile how she has done them.

Boy, does she ever need to be taken out back to the woodshed! She does not have the mentality of a grown 40 year old woman. She is severely stunted mentally and the older she gets, it is going to be extremely more noticeable.

Susan1956, it must have been when she did her Today show appearance. It was on a city street, I think outside the studio. At the end she thought she made a funny joke then looked at someone off to her left out of camera range. Whoever could that be? LOL. He's probably thinking how haggish she looks now. That long, straight hair is not flattering at all. She looked great with the short hair except for the stripes and spikes. I guess it's more important to look Hollywood"ish".

I thought of that too..but then I found it odd that the tshirt was on a hanger. To each their own but I can't see an 11 year old boy taking the time to hang up tshirts instead of sticking them, folded, in a drawer.

It took TFW on the TMZ video interview almost 30 seconds to answer a simple question!

Where would you not take a girl out on an a date to?

She is the worst at not being able to think on her feet and really quick. She was really bad on WWHL with the game that she played with Morgan Fairchild. The SIMPLISTS questions ever and she was so nervous and kept turning around for Steve to give her the answer. I think I saw Steve out on the sidewalk, but his reflection was behind the reflection of TFW in the window. I got a nanosecond of him. He was there.

She really looks rough and haggered to be 40 and a half already.

I went to TMZ to watch the very short interview with Kate. She is terrible bashing her kids. I saw this and I don't know if everybody knows about this. It was from Sept.

"Sources close to the millionaire COO tell TMZ Jeff THOUGHT he was in a real relationship with Kate, but quickly learned she only wanted him to appear on "Kate Plus 8" this season as her love interest."
We're told Jeff agreed to do the show a few months back, but when he realized what was up, he bailed because he felt she was just using him. No shock ... they're not on speaking terms.
So much for a new babysitter ...

Does she also shovel snow and throw rock salt on your sidewalk and driveway?

I was thinking of AuntieAnn when I was watching a Christmas movie, "Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" with The Fonz and Brooke Burns. Great movie. Brooke has a neighbor, Rita, who pesters Brooke into putting up ALL WHITE lights because she doesn't want Brooke's house to be the only dark house on Christmas Eve. A nice young man, Morgan, accompanies Fonz (Brooke's uncle) to Brooke's house and volunteers to put up the white lights. He puts one red bulb in the string and when Rita complains that the lights aren't all white, he tells her that it's an old tradition, "Legend of the one red candle." He did it just to drive the neighbor nuts.

Maybe Auntie should do something like that to make Leaf Lady crazy!

It was 70 degrees here today. It's wonderful not having to worry about driving on snowy roads to do our Christmas shopping. We will be so spoiled, though, when winter finally arrives.

Wonderful recap, admin. May we look forward to the next one this week? ;-)

You should see her in "real life." Nobody would ever look twice at her. I often wonder that if Milo could see her with her hair pulled back and without full makeup if she would still think that Kate is a gorgeous young-looking babe with a rockin' body.

A few years ago, back when the twins were in lower school, Kate was cute, natural and fresh looking with that pixish hair cut. Not many people could pull off that cut, but she did. She really messed herself up.
