Does anyone know if Cara is still playing lacrosse? If she had to give that up for filming, her anger isn't surprising. There's been no mention lately of tournaments.

((((

Lacrosse is a spring sport. That's why there is no mention of tournaments. The shows were filmed in the off-season.
----------------------------
Didn't Cara play lacrosse one summer in some non-school summer league? I seem to remember tweets about it from other players who were newcomers to (or just passing visitors to) the Kate-plus-8 world. Does anyone else remember that?

Cara may still be playing at school but not in the summer league.

Ok i just checked on facebook,i think some here need to calm down about the ratings cause some of the comments are saying that they watched for 1st time or 1st time in a long time (prob because of holidays) and those who were shocked by teen behavior were shocked and said they wouldn't watch again. So i think admin is right(hopefully) in saying that it was break and people just watched tv

But two summers ago she played tournaments with a traveling lacrosse club. So if they filmed all summer that may have gone by the way side. May not be as important in a small private school but around here the high school athletes play like that in the off season

Why does TFW (I do it all) need a helper or "2nd me" if she doesn't work and the kids are getting older?? She is trying WAY too hard convincing people that she's all about her kids and her animals. Having a "helper" at the ages they are right now convinces me even more that she wants less and less to do with them unless she's being filmed. It's almost nauseating what a fake fame whore she is.

Off season couldn't be more important to a serious high school athlete. In this day in age it's almost impossible to be a starting player without keeping it up throughout the off season.

If she missed anything like that due to filming, it's a tragedy.

I believe Kate's show along with the others took a jump because the ratings are reflecting the numbers for NEW shows not reruns. This time of year there are very few new shows to rate. The show buzz daily link above specifies "original" programming.

My grandson, who is a month and a half older than the tups, is heavily involved in baseball. The Little League he belongs to allowed anyone who turned 12 before April 1 to play on the Major Teams this fall to give them some experience.

However, next spring he will have to try out for the Majors. Since November, he has been attending a baseball clinic weekly to hone his skills.

How Cara keeps up her skills due to filming is anyone's guess. I hope that she continues to pursue her sports, and hope that filming doesn't interfere with that.

But with Kate as her mother, which priority is more important? Filming or sports?

Wowser (#9), I agree about the helper. I might've
cut TFW some slack if this was someone who was helping her shuttle the kids back and forth from their many independent activities. But filming
a TV show seems to be, like it or not, the most important activity for the G kids.

No one should get too bent out of shape about the ratings. Nielsen started a new ratings system on Monday and it's understood that there is expected confusion and uncertainty about ratings accuracy at this time. It was expected that numbers might jump or fall quite a bit until things get sorted out. (And for those who think they aren't adding to ratings by DVR, video on demand, etc. - it counts). I do think unfortunately she and the Duggars will be back, TLC has nothing else.

A somewhat confusing overview: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/monday-fast-nationals-delayed-nielsen-sorts-out-massive-change-to-ratings-methodology.htm

We have no idea if Cara is on a non-school team in her area because we haven't heard anything about it. It could very well be that she's not serious enough about the sport to play year-round. If that's her choice, then fine. Let her do what she wants to do. If lacrosse is a passion and filming is interfering with that, she's a big girl and can certainly make her feelings known. Then again, would Kate even care?

So many parents need and do use helpers. Most times they're not all on the payroll. They're sisters, brothers, cousins, in-laws, friends, and yes even exes with whom we've evolved, to create a coparenting relationship that works. With such a network of people, a few hours here, a weekend there, some carpooling, it's easier and healthier too. Eight children is excessive, being so far from their school must be difficult, and being alone for all of it, well I wouldn't want it. Virtually no adult relationships, no one to bounce ideas off of. The little things, jokes talking away fears...she pushed away so many, for what she thought she had to have. So now she has it, and employs a support system. Sad.
I don't know that I could predict all of the needs, errands, responsibilities that would come my way having 8 children. But I have to think, that if I loved them, if they were mine, I would know it's going to be a lot of work, physically, mentally, financially and emotionally. And because of that, I would choose my battles carefully, I wouldn't want to alienate a single member of my support system.

Maybe Cara isn't a serious high school athlete. Sometimes kids' interests change and what once consumed their every waking moment no longer is a priority. Many times, too, kids get burned out and find that they need to move on to something else. Kate has never said how serious Cara is about the sport, or if she has her sights set on a scholarship. Maybe she just enjoys playing on the school team, and that's not a bad thing. She can learn team work and sportsmanship and socialization even if she doesn't have the drive for serious competitive play.

A very happy and peaceful 2016 to everyone here. May your barrels of Rumspringa never run dry!

Just another example of TFW's selfishness, greed and irresponsibility. She's apparently not in the least bit concerned about Shoka's health, just that someday, maybe, breeding him and getting a puppy - not that as time goes on un-neutered dogs have much higher likelihood of developing cancer - something I'm sure her vet has told her many times. Or, that there are shelters overrun with dogs needing forever homes.

I thought Katie had editorial input- ? Why was this included?

AND

He looked defeated. I wonder if when he said that was she nearby and hear it? Also, why would she as a producer let that be shown?

***********

Because TFW being a 'producer' is a title in name only w/no clout.

Generally for reality shows, being listed as producer is a title w/no authority. In the case of the housewives shows it is usually given to pacify a housewife during contract time, but the HWs have no input other than to suggest a show idea which is IMO all the input or authority TFW has ever had.

I don't think TFW's ever had 'editorial' input. After something has been taped I doubt she has any input in post-production at all and I'll bet she doesn't even know what's made it to the show until she sees the finished product.

Formerly Duped said...

I watched on demand again. I was quite sad to hear Cara state the kids would not be having their own children since none of them really 'liked each other.' And when Mady threw such a fit about the stone her mother had made as a surprise for her and all the siblings.

Hannah and Collin looked totally zoned out on the couch, and H does not seem to participate fully in things-perhaps she really does hate filming.

A useless, pathetic episode, helper and all.

TLC stinks said...

I agree, Carole. That is exactly what I said. In fact, Jen Stocks is executive producer. Kate has zero editorial input. If she did, it would be like her Twitter. Figure 8 does all the editorial work. Think of the hours and hours of filming it took to stretch out the episodes. She suggests ideas, to her benefit obviously, but it also explains the repeating of events. Kate has no imagination. TLC simply gave her the title of producer, either to shut her up or simply to give her a salary bump.

And again, Hannah is the one to watch. She'll bail on the filming as soon as she can.

How will she explain Nala not being brought back if she wants Shoka to have a companion? She won't. It's like Nala never happened. The word was Nala was aggressive towards Kate because of her treatment of the dogs. Now I completely get all the Shoka loving tweets and pictures. She's had to convince the public she loves Shoka, so now she can move on with her breeding episode. I think it will happen in 2016. Someone needs to remind people how she treated those dogs and she does not even deserve Shoka, who was unfortunately a more laid back dog and lost the lottery. Bad enough about the kids, but I absolutely am enraged this woman wants to breed Shoka. This woman does nothing but treat people and animals like dirt.

TLC stinks said...

Robert Hoffman, the journalist who became close to Kate’s ex, Jon Gosselin tells the new issue of Star magazine that he allegedly witnessed Kate’s appalling behavior to the German shepherds, Nala and Shoka, that the family kept as pets but eventually gave away.

“Kate left the family dogs in their cages behind the house for hours on end with no food,” says Hoffman, who authored the controversial book Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World.

When Jon and Kate first split up, they would take turns staying at the house with the children, and Hoffman claims that Jon told him that when he would show up after being away for a few days, he’d find the starving dogs living in filth.

“She never cleaned the cages,” says Hoffman. “Jon would return to find them filled with urine, poop and puke. I saw vomit in them.”

Kate not only allegedly let the poor animals live in horrendous conditions, according to Hoffman, she also hit them. “She would knock them over the head and yell,” claims Hoffman. “The abuse caused Nala to become very resistant to Kate, so that any time she came around, Nala growled. After a while, Kate began to fear she’d be attacked, so she sent the dog back to the breeder.”

The Gosselin matriarch was also reportedly very careless about leaving stuff that the dogs shouldn’t eat lying around, including some plastic Easter eggs that the animals apparently couldn’t resist.

“There was an entire bag of them in the garbage,” Hoffman says. “Shoka was up to his waist inside of it.” After one piece of plastic too many, the poor pooch reportedly had to be rushed to the vet’s office for an emergency visit.

Hoffman claims that Kate never wanted dogs, but supposedly agreed to get them solely for the sake of better ratings for the family’s show. “The kids had been begging for pets for years but Kate was adamantly against it, until the show needed content for an episode,” Hoffman writes. “She was only nice to the dogs for the camera. As soon as filming was done, she never wanted anything to do with them. She’d tell Jon, ‘They’re yours… I’m not taking care of them.’”

Whatever Kate's numbers were for the latest shitfest, it really doesn't matter. She generates ad dollars for TLC and no matter how wrong it is for children's lives to be entertainment for asshats who watch, she will continue.
The damage is done. There's no saving these kids. The only possible good that can come is that one day, the evil that is using your kids for fame and money will be broadly shunned and rejected.

The one redeeming factor is that the kids have Jon as their father and her will always be a positive, normalizing force. There's still hope for those kids who don't have their heads shoved up their own arseholes.

Male dogs that are not neutered are prone to a number of medical problems as they age. Testicular tumors, both benign and malignant, develop in dogs after age five. Dogs that have been neutered at the recommended age run no risk of this problem. The most common medical problems found in male dogs that have not been neutered at an early age involve the prostate. Over 80% of unneutered male dogs develop prostate problems. These include conditions such as benign enlargement of the gland, which, in addition to being painful, can pinch the urethra, making it difficult for the dog to pass urine. In some cases the swelling becomes great enough to partially block the colon, interfering with fecal elimination. Infections of the prostate are another problem, and can make a dog very sick.
Perianal tumors occur near the anus. They can be benign or malignant, and their growth is stimulated by testosterone. Perianal hernias are a problem found mostly in older dogs that have not been neutered. Perianal tumors and hernias are usually found in dogs aged seven and older, and both require surgery. They are rarely found in dogs that have been neutered in the first year

Or maybe she is, and would have preferred to spend the summer doing lax instead of filming as she did the past few years.

The point being, the kids spent way too much time filming in 2015. They are 11 and 14, and their summers and vacations throughout the year should have been spent doing what all the other children their age are doing. Even if it's just a sleepover, those kinds of normal things need to be happening instead of filming.

They are obviously struggling socially we all see how they behave, which is all the more reason any extra time they have should not be spent filming, but in activities both formal and informal that are going to enrich their emotional growth and social skills, not stunt them further. There really is no place for filming this much for a child this age. Those that do film as much as they have generally are homeschooled on sets. These kids go to school full time. It's too much to ask of them and they are suffering for it. Now add in a narcissist as their mother and they really drew the short straw.

A happy, healthy and peaceful 2016 to all!

Admin (#64), and it makes me sad to think that the
G kids may not allow themselves to even acknowledge their hearts' desires, as their dreams and goals are of no consequence to their mother. Especially the boys, who seem to have no voice in that house.
If one of those boys desperately wanted to be on
a soccer team, or take martial arts, or a dance class, those feelings have probably long been
beaten down. I remember on "Jersey Shore," the guys' mantra was GTL - Gym, Tan, Laundry. I think the G boys live by SCF - School, Chores, Filming.

NJGal51 said...

TLC will keep TFW in the fold because she's good filler and is willing to do anything they ask for filming. While most of us would not want our kids shown in a bad light she puts hers on display for all to see. Mady's bad behavior is getting a lot of attention? Look for it to get worse.

She is an irresponsible dog owner. Maybe those times that he escaped the compound was because there was a female in heat in the area. I read a comment where someone said "well he's a purebred GSD". Doesn't matter. We are English Bulldog people and go to reputable breeders because we want a healthy dog. We get limited papers because we buy them for love of the breed and not to breed. We niter at 6 months. The contract that people sign with our breeder for female dogs (if they intend to breed) is that she has approval of the studs and this is to prevent backyard breeding. How can she ensure that they follow this? She retains part ownership so that she's able to see any papers requested on litters. As I said the other day, TFW will use a backyard breeder because no reputable breeder would use Shoka as a stud. Yes, if both parents are papered the litter can be registered and papered but papers don't mean a thing if you get an unhealthy do without a health guarantee. Rant over.

G kids may not allow themselves to even acknowledge their hearts' desires, as their dreams and goals are of no consequence to their mother

&&&&

That's such a crucial point. Do the kids bow out of things because they know filming pleases Kate? Have they learned to go along with her? Look how they went along with vomit-fest because they knew the alternative would be cleaning.

Does Cara (if this is even true) not want to play lacrosse all summer because that's really something she doesn't want to do, or is it more about pleasing Kate? This isn't a fair and objective playing ground here.

Another point is that kids often go through phases where they fall in and out of liking something. It can be a huge mistake to let them call the shots and quit when you know as an adult something is right up their alley. There is nothing wrong with telling an athletic child, no, you need to pick at least one sport to play this summer, you need to stay active. You can say look if you still absolutely hate it after this season we'll address again quitting or choosing a different activity.

One of the little boys I nannied went through this with baseball. He woke up one morning and didn't want to play anymore. This was a kid that was pitching in the top percentiles and was always chosen for the all-star team and had already played around the country. We were like, REALLY? We all collectively encouraged him to keep at it, and within the year he grew to like it again and was offered a college scholarship. Really proud of him. I think he didn't want to play that year because he wanted to laze around and play xbox. Well, a 13 year old child doesn't get to make that call. Thank God none of the adults said sure whatever you want, 13-year-old child.

For everything Cara has done to get highly skilled at LAX, it would be a real shame to just let her quit just like that. Especially when there is such a future for her in a less common sport with scholarships, relationships with teammates and coaches, an activity that keeps you out of trouble, and other positive things. That future, however, can be squandered if you squander your off season. I doubt Kate has the foggiest idea about that.

How many kids as adults say you know what mom, I wish you had made me take piano/play baseball/go to camp. Just because a wishy washy kid might not want to doesn't mean the question is over then.

That was the first thought I had when I heard he's not fixed.

This is BASIC dog ownership. You learn this if you do 15 minutes research on owning a dog. A dog not fixed will be more likely to roam. That explains why this dog roams around far and wide and has even escaped. He's looking for his mate. Chances are, he's already found her and Kate's already a grandma.

Now I feel like the poor thing has been frustrated all this time, and that's too bad.

I doubt this breeding idea was a long term plan. Just pure laziness and lack of concern about the dog. She is so desperate for show ideas. Kate Gosselin finally admits that other dog was left behind

The mystery surrounding the whereabouts of Kate Gosselin's dogs has finally been revealed via Twitter on Sunday.

When a fan asked Kate about a German Shepherd dog she used to own, Nala, Kate responded, "Nala didn't come back w/ Shoka ...at the time, 1 dog was plenty! Had to choose best for all! She has a new loving family:(."

Kate was referring to the time she returned the family pets, two German Shepherd dogs, Nala and Shocka, to the breeder she adopted the dogs from, citing reasons that she couldn't handle their maintenance and upkeep.

Shortly after she brought the dogs back in Sept. 2009, Kate said, "They'll come back, but for now I needed a break."

The dogs were discarded while Jon and Kate Gosselin were going through a very public, contentious divorce.

One of the dogs, Shocka [sic], was later retrieved. It was rumored that Kate had a change of heart and after her kids begged her to bring their beloved pets back home.

Nala didn't make the cut though and rumors surrounding the dog's whereabouts and treatment while the dogs were in Kate's care have peppered social media sites. A scathing tell-all book "Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World", written by Robert Hoffman, claims that Kate was abusive to the dogs -- allegedly leaving them outside in the cold all night and beating them.

In 2008, Kate was heard saying on her now cancelled TV reality show "Jon and Kate Plus 8", that getting a dog was a sacrifice for her. Kate said, "I could live my whole life without a dog."

Not being argumentative here, but I don't understand why Shoka can't be health certified and used as a stud by a legitimate breeder. Don't most breeders require that dogs bought as pets be neutered? That is how they protect their own investment and brand. I think it is likely that when Shoka was bought, there was already an understanding in place. Maybe the original plan was to breed Shoka and Nala. Anyway, I am not understanding why you are sure that only a backyard breeder would stud him.

EX Nurse - As I said, we're bulldog people and in our world those breeders that sell "pet quality only" breed for the money that they can make selling the puppies. Sure you get papers and they'll tell you that the stud was healthy and will even produce a vet certificate and the puppy will be cheaper ($1500 as opposed to $2500 - yes Bulldogs are expensive). I want a breeder that breeds with an eye on keeping the line clean and healthy and am willing to pay the price. If she wants to use him as stud she'll (or TLC) will find a breeder more than willing to use him.

She always says how much they love him and yet we never see pictures of him cuddling with any of them. We see him in posed pictures standing with them and we see him on beds and rolled in blankets but never up close and personal. She talks about it but never posts a picture of it. I hate to say this, but she'd probably do better with a "purse dog" that she can carry around and use as a fashion accessory.

For what it is worth, I did a name search on the AKC website https://www.apps.akc.org/apps/reg/namecheck/index.cfm

I used Gosselin as the last name, and Shoka as the first. It returned a result saying that the name was already in use for a GSD, and suggested Shoka II.

Of course, it could be another dog. But, i thought it was established that Shoka is pedigreed, which I assume would mean he was from a legitimate breeder. I have a hard time believing she would allow anything but the best of the best in the orphanage.

I don't get the condemnation of anyone who buys from a breeder instead of adopting. Does that scorn extend to people who have their own children, instead of adopting?

I highly doubt that people who are looking for a purebred GSD would, instead, get a rescue dog if Shoka is never bred.

It bothers me that any and everything the TFW does is condemned, why then, by association, extends to everyone else that has or does the same thing. I don't think that anyone who breeds a high-demand dog, who comes from a documented healthy bloodline, should be compared to the truly irresponsible owners that fail to neuter and then dump the puppies in a shelter. Even in that case, I give them credit for taking the puppies to a safe place, where there is a high probability of being adopted into a good home. That type of language and criticism should be reserved for the truly horrid individuals that wring a living out of the lives of these intelligent and loving animals, and then abandon them when there is no more profit.

My personal opinion is that all dogs, including working, service and show dogs, be allowed to live a life of pampered petdom, with lots of love and play. I think that there is a lot to criticize in TFW's neglectful and abusive treatment of both dogs (and her children!). What I am objecting to is the sound criticism of anyone who wants to have a dog that is from a breeder.

We say the breeder on the show when she had to beat the kids in a race for the puppies. The dogs and puppies were in outside kennels. My breeder keeps the puppies in the house and raises them and socializes them with her family until they are ready for their furever homes. This has been my experience with all of my bulldogs.

fade2black said...

Ex Nurse, I'm not getting into the breeder vs. rescue argument because I don't have an opinion on that. My current pup is a rescue, but I've had both AKC and rescue dogs and love them all the same. I am judging this particular breeder by his actions concerning these dogs and this family. First of all, it's not a good idea to introduce puppies into a family with a large number of young children who might or might not know how to treat the puppy. Secondly, any breeder worth his salt would have put the brakes on the transaction at the first sign of Kate's obvious disinterest. Lastly, no reputable breeder would ever allow a dog back to a family that had returned it. That's my opinion of this breeder and I'm stickin' to it.

NJGal51 said...

========
As long as both parents have papers the litter can be registered and you can send for your papers. Backyard breeders normally do provide the information so that you can register your dog. Puppy mills also provide all of the information necessary to register your dog. I'd always assumed that Shoka had papers and never said that he didn't. If you have have a registered dog and answer an ad in the paper where someone is looking for a stud, chances are that this is a backyard breeder. If you put an ad in the paper advertising stud services (dog) chances are anyone that answers the ad is a backyard breeder. I'm not saying that this is what she's doing, this is pure speculation on my part. I am not criticizing anyone for going to a breeder rather than adopting from a shelter. I guess I'll drop this now and will discuss it again when and if she actually tries to breed him.

I completely agree. Her emotional maturation seems to have stopped in her early teens. She acts and reacts like an immature 13 year old and she's passing on that thinking and those behaviors to her kids. I watch TFW interact with landscapers, contractors... anyone and then I see the kids behaving the exact same way. We've commented here about how the tups often seem to not be maturing and I think it's obvious why they haven't.

Then I think about her dating and I shudder - and LOL. There's no way in he*l any mature, successful male would be interested in her. I mean, can you imagine any man you know being able to tolerate her antics, her ludicrous comments, her absence of any knowledge about basically anything? No way.

Carole said...

I apologize in advance as this belongs in the discussion from 2 weeks ago, but I forgot I'd written it down and I'm just now posting about it.

During the cooking challenge episode TLC made a point to zoom in and hold the shot of their 'Chore Chart'. It was definitely more than a passing glance - the chart was posted prominently in the kitchen and specifically captured on camera. They didn't want anyone to miss it, that's for sure.

Here it is:

Clean table. Hannah
Clean floor. Leah
Rinse toothbrush sink. Alexis
Clean up family room and basement. Aiden
Straighten shoes, coats and book bags. Joel
shoes and coats in basement
AM breakfast cleanup. Collin
Clean all 3 bathrooms. Aiden and Joel
Feed Shoka. Alexis
Metal appliances. Hannah

Notice any inequities between male/female responsibilities? Between favored/non-favored children?

I don't remember, for sure, what was on the old chart, but much of this seems to be their chores from @ 4+ years ago.

Carole said...

Also, Kate was saying how she now grills all of the time, and yet, when she lit the grill, and the flame popped on, she jumped as though she were afraid of it. Was it her helpless little girl act again, or does she rarely light the thing?

*******

I say she rarely lights it (I honestly don't blame her for not grilling frequently since the grill's location was so inconvenient to the kitchen but I thought her 'fear' of lighting the grill was ridiculous).

It looks like at least one of the twins and probably TFW, too think food doesn't cook on a grill unless you have the top closed. Yep, that's what Cara? said on the last show. lol

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Carole (#95), that chore chart really does highlight the imbalance between the boy and girl tups, doesn't it? I'm surprised no one has brought that chart up yet (I didn't see it -- I don't watch anymore).
So the boys have to clean the girls' bathroom as well as their own? WTH?

Did TFW send a New Year's tweet? If she's quiet,
I suppose that means the kids aren't with her.
She must be counting the minutes until they go back to school Monday.

The breeder was a guy hired to do security at one of the Gosselin events. Somehow the conversation came up that he breeds German Shepherds. I believe this was related by Kate in the show. Anyway, as I recall it, the guy lived on land and the dogs were in outside kennels. She wrote the guy a check. I don't think the guy is local. I recall that his first name was mentioned, either in the show or later by Jon. My impression he's a guy who has German Shepherds and breeds them but whether they are AKC registered or not, I have no idea.

When she brought back Shoka I was convinced it was another dog because a couple of the kids did not recognize him. I believe in conspiracies when it comes to Kate.

When she brought back Shoka I was convinced it was another dog because a couple of the kids did not recognize him

********************

That doesn't surprise me at all. I doubt that the kids were that close or interacted with the dog since Kate kept him outside, plus the dog grew as he matured and he was gone for some time. His physical appearance may have changed.

"EX Nurse - As I said, we're bulldog people and in our world those breeders that sell "pet quality only" breed for the money that they can make selling the puppies."

*****************

I have not found that to be the case. I know people who breed and raise pet quality dogs inside a loving home with socialization and very strict requirements for purchasing the puppies. In fact, no over-breeding is done and money is secondary. They are not puppy mills.

Pet quality means just that. Pet quality as opposed to show quality. It does not, by any means, imply that the breeder is out for money only. Obviously show quality dogs are more expensive and are registered with the kennel club. They have to be in order to show them. Papers show the lineage of dogs that have competed in shows, have won shows, and conform to the highest standards held to those dogs in the show circle.

Pet quality dogs can have pedigrees and are purebred, and are registered (with papers), but the ancestry of those dogs does not indicate that the dog will mature to be competition-eligible. Knowledgeable breeders can take a look at a puppy from the get-go and know if it's a show quality or pet quality dog (shape of head, coat, body length, etc). Sometimes, though, you may get a surprise and that pet quality dog may turn out to be show competition worthy. I've seen it happen.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

It is just as selfish to buy a dog rather than adopting one, given the vast overpopulation and euthanasia rates in shelters.

&&&&

You're assuming that if someone didn't get a purebred they would adopt a rescue. That might not be the case for a wide variety of reasons. Some people aren't going to get a dog unless it's bred.

And for the record I'm all about fost-adopt of dogs and my own dog is a rescue. I just don't buy the argument that everyone who gets a purebred is contributing to the problem. That's quite the leap.

I don't think that it has anything to do with the kids' ages. Kate didn't like Nala and Nala didn't like Kate, from what I understand. She said that Nala found a good home so I wouldn't expect Nala to ever go back, regardless of how mature the children are.

AuntieAnn (#103), and she's got 9 hours alone every school day to get all that done. But her kids have to do those chores, plus go to school and do homework. Oh, and film a TV show, where they're at the mercy of a production schedule. You know there will be at least one book written by a G kid, and I suspect things are even more challenging than we've even speculated.

TFW admitted that as a kid, she'd get her brother Kevin to do her chores. When she got on bed rest for eleventy billion weeks with the tups, she must've felt like she won the lottery: being

A couple things I haven't seen mentioned from this week's show:

TFW fixed breakfast, making McMuffins using 8 egg rings on a griddle. While she cooked the tups were in their seats at the table looking like the orphans at the table in Annie.

She took the eggs off the stove and awkwardly used a knife and her fingers with her icky long nails, to tear the uneven bits off of the eggs before putting them on the biscuit. YUCK Then, they showed 6 clear glass glasses (yes indeed, she's letting them use actual glass!) lined up on the counter and she poured equal amounts of orange juice in each glass -- LESS than 2" MAX in each. (I'm probably being generous saying it was 2" rather than 1".) That amount would barely wet their mouths after eating a dry biscuit w/egg and ham.

When TFW talked about her landscaping project she said she wanted to get rid the rocks that were on all of the planting beds because... she hated the way her precious new snowblower threw them all over the place. SMH I'd like to know why she was using the blower so close to be beds that it would pick up rocks in the first place! And, if that's happening wouldn't you think it would be easy to just not get so close to those areas the next time? I have rocks in my landscaping just like TFW and I've never had a rock picked up and thrown by my snowblower - ever. Nor have I had one thrown when I used the snow shovel. Hmmmm, could it be that I just know where the rocks are and I stay away from them?

No, I'm not assuming that they would I am stating that they should. And I make no apology for it. To declare it selfish to breed while at the same time buying from breeders is the height of hypocrisy, IMO.

^&&&&

I do not take you task on the selfish statement so I have no idea why you're going on and on about it being selfish.

You contend however that people who buy bred dogs are contributing to the problem of rescue dogs. Some, yes. Not all, IMO.

That because that statement ASSUMES those people would buy a rescue dog if they could not buy a bred dog. That is not always going ot be the case. For some people it's bred dog or no dog. Therefore, the amount of rescue dogs does not go up or down if they ONLY will take in a bred one or no dog.

So to say they direct contribue to the rescue problem is a logical falicy, and I'm pointing it out.

To say it's selfish or not is a completely different issue I'm not going to challenge you on. That's an opinion, not a logical falicy.

At one time there was a sham Milo twitter account. The handle MiloandJack was altered by changing the lower case l (letter after k) to an upper case I (letter after H). If you're on a computer and twitter, you can use your browser's find function to tell which it is. When it's a image, you can't tell which it is. The "Daisy Duke" tweet may have been from that sham account.

====

I can't wait to read it. And the title of the book: MommyDidlittle.

For a SAHM, she sure hasn't got much left to do after the kids clean up the kitchen in the morning before they leave for school. How hard can it be for her to throw a few cereal bowls in the dishwasher and wipe down the counters? I understand kids should have chores, but to make them do all that in the rush of a school morning is like boot camp. They must be exhausted before they even get to class.

She's lazy to the marrow of her bones.

Trapper said he knew a girl that he dated named Mildred. They got her on the phone and she said that she would do it. Klinger and Hawkeye were talking about Mildred getting them and that Hawkeye said he would marry her if she got them and Hawkeye said that her name would be Mildred Pierce. Hawkeye Pierce! lol

When the little boy was out in the mine field that he was going to adopt and he ran through the mine field to get him while a chopper came and picked them up.

MM - I'm not disputing anything you said in your post and I'm glad that you've had good experiences with a breeder that breeds only pet quality dogs. I never said backyard breeders and breeders that sell only pet quality are puppy mills. I know that any puppy whose parents are papered are purebred and can apply for AKC registration. I also know the difference between show and pet quality. Pet quality, show quality, as long as I get a healthy puppy I don't care because we don't show ours but I want a reputable breeder. Personally I will not buy from backyard breeders.

James (142):
Discovery may be going back to its educational roots; TLC, not so much.

From the WaPo article:

Don’t expect Discovery’s back-to-basics pledge to see much airtime on gleefully lowbrow channels such as TLC. “Long Island Medium,” whose host says she can commune with the dead, just launched its seventh season with a holiday special that the network said will include “readings focused solely on children.”

It also says:

But TLC, the network argues, fills its own important niche. Zaslav, wearing blue suede shoes and sitting in a director’s chair in his airy corner office overlooking midtown Manhattan, said the “misunderstood” TLC provides thoughtful storytelling designed for American families beyond the hoity-toity coastal elite.

“TLC is a very powerful and heartfelt Middle America brand. When we look at TLC, we basically say, ‘F--- New York and L.A.,’ ” Zaslav said.

Well, ain't that bad news for Kate. She thought being on TLC was her ticket to New York and Hollywood, and all along she was supposed to be the Pennsylvania version of Mama June.

Sheepless In Seattle said...

I watched the episode on On Demand and noticed how Kate lied. When the family was burying the dead fish you can clearly see the new deck behind them. Then when they are cooking outside Kate made the remark about the grill being so far away. I think they purposely showed how far the grill was from the kitchen and how much of a pain it is to carry all the stuff needed as a prelude to next week's episode about the new deck. And I also noticed she was grilling many fat, juicy steaks. I bet that is the only time the kids eat steaks is when TLC is buying. It is steak, lobsters, Koby beef when TLC is footing the bill but when she is buying the kids rarely have bacon or milk because it is too expensive.

Be still, my heart. Another tea drinker? You must be American because we're not that rare in Canada.

I agree with you about Liptons. Not my favourite. I lean towards Red Rose, but I'm not sure if you have it where you live. If you want stronger, more robust tea, steep it longer. Also, I'm not sure how "breeding" segued into tea. A combination of "brewing" and "steeping"?

Our first morning in Ireland I asked for tea. (I don't drink coffee.) Now, the Irish know a thing or two about tea. They served me a whole large pot and the stuff I poured out was positively black. When I looked in the pot, there were at least 8 teabags in there. That was quite the shock to me, but the tea was good. I think 2 bags per pot is plenty.

Get yourself a tea pot and brew or steep your tea properly. Use water hot enough that tendrils of steam are just starting to appear. Pour some hot water into the pot and swish it around to heat the pot. Then empty the pot. Fill it with hot water and gently drop your tea bags in. Let it steep for at least 5 minutes.

Once you've mastered your basic Orange Pekoe tea, you can branch out into things like English Breakfast tea or Earl Grey tea. There are unlimited numbers of teas on the market. As long as it contains tea leaves, it's tea. If it's fruit or other ingredients that aren't tea, that is considered an "infusion" and not tea.

Tea doesn't have as much caffeine as coffee so you may not have to worry about the afternoon and decaf. I find I can drink the regular stuff up until dinner time with no issues.

Enjoy!

That is great news! I have said this for years that the cable companies would make more money and the customers would be more happier if they did a ala carte program selection.

They should let you have a Baker's Dozen for a flat rate and so much each after that. Like a pizza for 10 dollars and 1.25 extra for each topping.

CSPAN, TLC, The Shopping Channels, The Golf Channel would be gone!

SO DISAPPOINTED at HSN and QVC on Christmas Day!

Normally for years they would not sell anything and one of the channels would have a beautiful orchestra playing beautiful Christmas music with the set decorated to the nines. For 24 hours.

The other one, one year, made videos of each of the hosts with their family baking, cooking and talking about family. For 24 hours.

NOT THIS YEAR! Push that product, even on Christmas Day! Disgusting!

But what was so amazing the next article showed a 11 year old girl who got a wagon and went around her neighborhood and asked for COAT DONATIONS for the homeless and others who needed a coat for winter. She was able to get 1,000 coats!!!

The placement of that article under RS's was great!

TV off or TV on after that is mostly determined by what is going on here. Usually off until evening. Dr. Phil is recorded daily and gets watched when nothing is on at night.

It will usually default to news or cooking like Tucker, and I don't really "watch", I do other things around the house. Only for the shows I DVR or am streaming do I sit down and watch with full attention.

I've thought a lot about whether it needs or should be on that much and I've tried to turn it off before but the house feels quiet.

As far as energy use the TV is low energy and burns hardly any fuel being on. Most TVs are built very low energy these days.

So last week, I guess he decided he was doing good when he aired intimate birth footage of a TLC star who was sexually molested by her brother -- another TLC star. But didn't TLC pull the family from their lineup months ago, expressing grief and concern about the family? Didn't the girls themselves say they felt violated by the media? But they're back, and TLC is continuing to profit off of them. And

You know what's a GREAT wallpaper channel, HGTV. I'm addicted right now to Tiny House. I find it facinating.
:::::

There's a documentary about tiny houses on Netflix, mostly about how a guy built his own, but they show other tiny houses as well. I'd love to live in a tiny house, simplify my life and get rid of all the "stuff" I have that I never look at, let alone use. And now, as I sit here freezing trying to heat this place and not go bankrupt paying a huge heating bill, a tiny, warm house sounds wonderful.

I got sucked into watching Buying Alaska awhile back. Fascinating. Expensive state! I couldn't believe what people got excited about; indoor plumbing!

:::::

Really? I'd be over the moon to get indoor plumbing if I'd been tramping through snow drifts to get to an outhouse. I wonder if they used chamber pots at night? Ugh!

This is totally off topic, hope you don't mind. All this talk of breeding made me want a cup of hot tea (nice segue to my question, don't you think?)

So here's my question. We're coffee drinkers normally. But lately, we've been drinking tea instead (Lipton). But we're finding the Lipton taste to be rather boring and not strong enough.

Any recommendations for some good black tea, caffeinated for the morning and decaf for anytime after noon.

We like dark strong bold flavors, nothing wimpy. Your suggestions are very much appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe hard to believe but I've never had a cup of coffee. A few sips - I keep thinking I'll like it but nope. Not gonna happen! Oddly, I like coffee ice cream, though. Definitely tea for me. Tazo has a tea called Awake that's strong and quite good. Mostly I go with Twinings - either English Breakfast or English Afternoon. Hastings makes great tea but it's a bit pricey. I sometimes find it on sale on Amazon. Nice to "meet" other tea drinkers!

Waving my hand. We are HGTV watchers, too. Buying...anything. We never guess the right one. Almost NEVER! Right now, I pay attention to Buying Caribbean. Because I have said that if a certain person gets elected, I won't be able to live in the US for the duration.

Texas Tiny Houses in Luling, Tx is only about 40 minutes away from our home. We haven't made it to one of the tours yet, but we keep saying we will. I think they were one of the first popular Tiny Home manufactures. They use salvage materials for building.

If only I could figure out how to keep my hubby and fit him inside one of the tiny homes...

Kris 183......thank you so much for the answer. That sure was mean to put in stone. Soon she will wonder why her kids don't talk to her but just fresh mouth her..

Sue Buddy, I enjoyed "Tiny" the story of the man building his little home. His then girl friend was helping him. He built on a road width trailer frame so he could travel with his house. As I recall, he took over year building with cash-as-cash can progress.

Thanks for reminding me.

Foxy...you're welcome! And they already pretty much fresh mouth her with everything. Esp. Mady, Cara & Leah.

I have/had teens. My sons are 22 & 10 and my girls are 20 and 17. NEVER have they spoken to me like her girls talk to her. I'm not saying that during arguments they haven't said something 'teenagerish' (to quote Kate)bc they have. But her girls mouth off and complain about EVERYTHING! Kate makes a statement or a suggestion and out comes sarcasm and complaints. OMGosh the complaining is ridiculous. But Kate just takes it. I think she wants us to feel sorry for her. I don't because SHE is the mother, SHE needs to lay down the law and if they don't, there should be consequences. It all boils down to those girls have absolute zero respect for her. It's not 'normal teenager behavior'. It's called disrespect. You don't speak to someone you respect like they speak to her. Of course, Kate doesn't respect anyone either and have modeled that behavior to them, so it's no wonder.

PJ @ 166 - What was written on M and C's stones and why did it upset them?

Cara's said: It's mine. Stay off of it. I warned you about it. Mady's said: Don't step here. Don't say I didn't warn you about it.

Thanks. Kate had to know she'd be poking a bear with those stones.

Like P.J., I recommend English Breakfast and Darjeeling. A friend recommended Stash Tea.
Can't help with decaf tho, sorry.
Also check out Teavana's website.

Tucker's Mom - Kate said that is was an inside joke that she had been on the inside of and now all of a sudden she was on the outside. Awww, poor baby. She can act like they are all besties but clearly they are not (nor should they be).

Kris (#196), what TFW chose to put on the stones reminded me of the girls I went to high school with, printing all their inside jokes in the year book.
You could forgive their silliness, because they were 18 and thought it made them look cool. But this is a 40-year-old woman, who should realize that a permanent etching is a poor place for an inside joke, and a snotty one at that.

Then when they are cooking outside Kate made the remark about the grill being so far away. I think they purposely showed how far the grill was from the kitchen and how much of a pain it is to carry all the stuff needed as a prelude to next week's episode about the new deck.
------------------------
I don't even watch, I thought that too. Set up a justification for the new deck and complain about the kids not helping in one quick go. How Kate!
====================
About the stones: when no one quoted the text, I hoped that TLC hadn't shown it, but had shown the kerfuffle over it. Kate has some nerve casting that joke in stone when she has been immortalized saying "Mine, all mine" with perfect sincerity. It's probably the most sincere thing she's ever said!
