Jacob Roloff: "Just because the adults say it's what's best, doesn't mean it's what's best"

The youngest star of TLC's Little People, Big World, who has been filming the show since he was about seven years old, has been speaking out more frequently about his dislike of filming and his desire to protect other reality stars from a childhood played out on T.V. screens

Jacob recently met Jack Hamill, star of Our Little Family. Jacob had this to say on Instagram about the encounter (click to enlarge):

The post garnered more than 2,500 likes in less than fourteen hours. (On average, Jacob's Instagram posts get 800-1200 likes each).

Well done, Jacob, and keep speaking out. You have a unique perspective not many others can claim to possess

I like political debates as long as they are thoughtful, present various views, and respectful. Name-calling such as this isn't typical of this blog and I think it's getting rather nasty and offensive to those who support a candidate, and not necessarily Trump.

My understanding was that we were discussing the televised candidate's debate, not the discussion happening here. Name calling of other posters doesn't happen. Name calling of public figures does.

I hope I'm reading the situation correctly.

I agree. Posters/blog residents have to feel like they won't be personally attacked in order for a blog to work.

You may, however, be critical of other people who are NOT residents on this blog as you discuss current events, news, or other happenings.

Some may find this hypocritical, I really don't care how you view it. The fact is it's the rule at the vast majority of successful blogs, and it's the rule here. It's a rule because it WORKS.

+++++++++++++++

Who said they were voting for Trump, also called an asshole?

I think that's hitting below the belt, isn't it? (no pun intended), but it certainly seems to be disrespectful to posters.

Freedom is beautiful, but not when it's offensive to other posters on a blog.

I really think the questions about insults he has made were important. As president you are going to have to deal with all sorts of people including a lot of people you don't like and even the country doesn't like. Americans need to know if he intends to just call them a bunch of names and storm off. Or if he has other ideas for how to handle it. He should answer those questions.

When will TLC ever learn?

Just saw a promo for the Little Family and they were all on a sailboat like they use in the America's Cup. Either the little boy or little girl was at the helm steering the boat by herself and it was flying. Then they showed the kids bouncing and running like wild monkeys and wildebeest WITH NO LIFE JACKETS!

How many exploited children are going to have to drown for this practice to stop?

On My Giant Life, one girl who is 6'6 and was meeting a blind date, a regular height guy on a pier at a marina. The camera shows him walking down the pier and he stops and you can hear him murmur, Is that her? He walks down a little more to get a better look and he said, Oh, no, I am leaving. He started stomping off and was jerking his microphone off of him and the crew and producer was asking him to stop and he couldn't get the microphone and get out of there fast enough.

I felt sorry for the girl. She was cute. My youngest son is 6'6 and engaged, but you never know. Hmmmm...hahaha

I watched that documentary (The Staircase), and the speculation that an owl killed the wife is just ridiculous. Let's see, all the doors and windows were closed, but an owl somehow got in, attacked her in a narrow staircase, killed her, and got back out without leaving so much as a feather in the house. Right. The husband was a sociopath. And this was not the first woman who ended up dead at the bottom of a staircase, with him being the last person to have seen her.

Speaking of sociopaths, I see TFW The Producer is out of ideas for shows. The shows are so predictable. They will pack (and fight over what to pack), go somewhere with a beach, TFW will pose for the cameras in a bikini, they'll go out on a boat, and they will shop for souvenirs. Throw in a couple meals, and viola! It's an episode! How many times does TLC think people will tune in to see this? Of course, TFW will pressure TLC to keep the trips coming, but at some point people have to get sick of watching it.

I don't see anything in TLC's listings about the recent episodes. They're probably going to show back-to-school shopping and summer vacation sometime in December. Perfect timing, as always.

I thought the owl theory was ridiculous at first too but I read a lot about it and it's not that ridiculous.

They found owl feathers at the scene. Owl experts say owls were known to attack people at that time of night in that area, and they are vicious and can claw your eyes out. His head injuries could have been caused by an animal.

They're not saying an owl got inside. They were relaxing late by the pool with some alcohol. She got up and went to go inside while he stayed by the pool. The theory is, her hair was mistaken for prey and an owl swooped down on her just outside the house and clawed the back of her head violently as she was walking inside. Shocked and frightened by the attack, perhaps not even realizing what had happened, and bleeding heavily, she rushed inside and up the stairs, perhaps making for a medicine cabinet or the bathroom where there were towels and water. Disoriented from the head injury and still frightened, she slipped and fell down the stairs, knocking herself unconscious. And that's where her husband found her.

Now, he's still a sociopath either way, but it was enough of a plausible theory to get the guy a new trial. I say explore it.

Watch out ladies. On an episode of TLC' s dramatized version of a
real night in a typical emergency room they had a woman come in sitting on the toilet. The entire toilet. She was stuck in there and nothing was extracting her hiney from it. She had been home alone for hours on that thing. Her dear husband had left the seat up, left for work, and she didn't look in the dark.

Being honest is usually a good thing, but when you're being honest about someone personal, and not just some "issue", it can come across as rude.

I want Trump to be honest about how he feels about important campaign issues. I don't really care to hear about how he feels about somebody that has nothing to do with campaign issues, like Megyn Kelly and wherever she's bleeding out from.

I do not need to hear that he hates some woman's polka dot dress or that dude is butt ugly. That kind of "honest" serves no purpose.

He has a lot of the good honest and a lot more of the bad honest, and doesn't seem to see the difference. The good honest is what I suspect voters are responding to, and they're looking the other way on the bad.

Talking about food & Trump, when my daughter was invited to the United Nations, one night we were taken out to dinner, at the Trump Plaza. It was so awful inside, there was gold leaf on everywhere, it made the place look cheap! There was a three piece roaming band, they sang "Thank Goodness For Little Girls" to my girl, it was so special. I wanted to try something that would likely never be available in my province in Canada, so I tried the Sword Fish Steak, and it was just delicious. When we went for lunch to the Waldorf Astoria, I had to try their famous Waldorf Salad, since I had been making it at home, and it also was so good. I love to try new foods. I am happiest that I have so many awesome memories of her.

I hadn't heard the part about her being attacked outside. Still, if she was wounded, wouldn't there be a blood trail into the house? Blood at the spot where she was attacked outside? It's a fascinating case, for sure. The part that really bothered me, though, was when Dr Henry Lee testified (for the defense) that she bled too much to have been beaten to death, therefore it had to have been a fall. Huh? Is he really saying that falling down the stairs makes you bleed more than being beaten? That was ridiculous.

Has anyone else here heard about the case? There were a couple books written about it, as well as the documentary. It's the Michael and Kathleen Peterson case.

Sherry didn't say this. It was a comment by Warmth of the Sun (Post 174).

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

This is such a fascinating case. If you haven't seen The Staircase check it out on Youtube! The theories are endless and the twists and turns fascinating.

I don't know why there wouldn't be bits of blood elsewhere. I don't know that there would really be blood everywhere initially. You likely would clutch your head with both hands as you run inside, preventing the blood from going anywhere but on your hands. But once she fell or fainted on the stairs, the blood pooled and collected in large amounts. Head injuries bleed a lot even small ones. The owl feather and some of her hair was actually found in the victim's hand, as if she had clutched her wounded head just as I suspect. They have three pretty reputable experts saying it's consistent with an owl attack, down to the angle and degree and everything. It's a heck of a coincidence if Michael hit her exactly as an owl would, degrees and all.

"The lacerations on Mrs. Peterson's scalp look very much like those made by a raptor's talons, especially if she had forcibly torn the bird from the back of her head," she wrote. "That would explain the feathers found in her hand and the many hairs pulled out by the root ball, broken or cut. The size and configuration of the lacerations could certainly indicate the feet of a Barred Owl."

Read more here: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/special-reports/article10365449.html#storylink=cpy

The trial court actually lifted the restrictions on him and let him go until the new trial, saying they just want him to stay in the state. The prosecution is even willing to drop the charges down to second degree and NO MORE JAIL TIME, which is a huge red flag that they're nervous this owl theory might actually work. Peterson won't take that deal, which suggests he really is a sociopath nut job, or that he really does believe he is innocent and should be exonerated fair and square.

This does not sound like honesty--it sounds like no filter. Shooting off his mouth like that to world leaders could get us into WWIII. He is a complete embarrassment. As the field narrows, and candidates start dropping out, which ones are going to endorse Donald Trump, who has zero political alliances? Holding the lead over the other 9 top tier candidates (at 38% is far from a majority. I think that his constituency is made up of moderates. I don't see the co serve time side of the party supporting him. IMo! Of course!

Say what you will about Hillary Clinton--she is held in the highest regard by not only foreign leaders, but has been characterized as a consensus builder by some of the most conservative Republicans--including Newt Gingrich.

Duggar Family Lifetime Movie: A Family’s Dark Secret to Begin Filming

"A Family’s Dark Secret will begin shooting in August and will focus on the parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, as they struggle to come to terms with their son’s insatiable appetite for child molestation and the great lengths taken in covering it up."

Trump calling somebody "weak and pathetic" doesn't seem much different from Amanda Bynes calling various people [who didn't see things her way] "ugly". Bynes' brain chemistry was out of whack during those loony periods, but that explanation's not available for Trump.
:::::

Who the heck is Amanda Bynes?

((((

She was a child star. Had her own comedy show called the Amanda Show...my daughter used to watch it and it was very funny. She was also in some movies like "she's the man". She sadlyl seems to have developed either schizophrenia, bipolar, or probably a combination (shizoaffective) in her adolescence. She went off the rails very publicly on her twitter and it public, setting a fire in someones driveway and burning her dog. When she's quiet I assume she's being properly medicated. I followed the story quite closely because close family friends had a wonderful son diagnosed with schizophrenia in his teens and it's heartbreaking

I 100% agree. You are not the first to say this.

I don't think a small time local politician necessarily is like this, but my definition you'd have to be nuts to want to be president or other similar higher office.

I think there are a few exceptions but not many.

What is Lifetime THINKING and why do they want this aggravation? I don't understand this.

That is a fake website that makes up articles to sell Vercella Skin cream. It is not the Fox News website. Try clicking on any of the tabs or links on the page and it will bring you to a blank page.

This one paragraph in that article should prove that it's fake:

"In a recent interview with Megan Kelly, Michelle claimed, “After all of the stress I went through with the controversy over Josh, I looked in the mirror one morning and realized my face was aging terribly! I didn’t know what to do about all of the wrinkles that suddenly appeared on my face.” Michelle also told Megan Kelly that another reality star who went through similar problems with their skin recommended that she see Hollywood’s top dermatologist. Duggar states, “When I finally saw the dermatologist, he told me to try Vercella Skin Serum and Chloe Jolie and the results were unbelievable”.

We all know that never happened in the Megyn Kelly interview.

There was an op ed in the paper today about who are Trump's supporters. The article said that polls are showing that they're younger, less affluence, less educated....who also tend not to vote. White, not especially men, modest incomes, lower levels of education,.They're people attracted to boorish antics...they want to stick it to the man.

The article talked about how the other candidates could share the votes of those over 45, and Trump could possibly win by conglomerating all the other votes, those of the younger people. Something the author thought the Republicans should take seriously.

The article also talked about how Trump plays better as a solo act. He's not as appealing as one of many.

I, too, thought Ms. Kelly deserved a little karma for her Duggar fiasco, but Trump's comment was uncalled for, IMO.

Refreshingly honest doesn't have to mean crude, rude, no class, disrespectful.

In other words low information voters make up a lot of his votes.

The other voters need to get it together and put all their votes on one other candidate. Don't split the votes. Go for Carly!

Dr. Lee was a hired gun to explain the blood splatter evidence.

Then they cut to the scene of the lifejacket-less Jack saying AHOY, MATEY'S!

Remember when TFW had the kids on the boat weren't they suppose to have on lifejackets required by law?

Michael Peterson was caught in lies about his military service when he unsuccessfully tried to run for public office.

He was hiding some sexual preference secrets from everyone -- including his family and Kathleen.

He was the last person to be with another woman who fell down stairs. He adopted her two daughters. Her body was excavated and there were discrepancies about the story of her accident.

Stories such as these fascinate me. Innocent or guilty -- the human mind and behaviors are so complex.

Tucker's Mom -- my hubby teases me also. He says I watch the ID channel enough to be able to plan the perfect murder. I say that I have learned NOT to commit a crime. People get caught!

I recently got called for jury duty here in Texas. (The case was settled and the jury pool was dismissed.) I tried to not to act like an eager squirrel. I wanted to wave my hand and shout, "Pick Me! Pick me!"

If there was such a job as a professional juror, I would apply. And, I would be fair and pay attention -- I promise.

Dmasy,
I'm fascinated by true crime, too. I blame my family--there are several lawyers, a homicide detective, and a judge in my family, and I grew up hearing all about their fascinating cases. They were a regular topic of conversation at holiday dinners and family reunions. The talk always focused on what happens in the minds of such people, not the blood-and-guts details. The psychology of these people is what interests me, too. I guess it's a desire to understand what goes wrong in someone's mind to make them willing and capable to commit such acts. And the recent death of Ann Rule was a sad day for me. She was truly without equal.

I find it interesting that I married a man who also comes from a "legal" family--lawyers and judges. He teases me about my interest, but he understands it. We were just talking about the upcoming wedding of one of our sons. Both sides of the family will be there, and DH says we need to warn them that crime-scene photos will not be allowed at the wedding or rehearsal dinners. He was only half-joking!

I watch those shows, too, on a regular basis! I check the channels that air them, and when I see one that says "NEW" I'm as excited as a kid in a candy shop. I can't stand the woman's voice on "Snapped." It's as annoying as Kate's! I had to laugh a few minutes ago. We have attorneys, detectives and judges in our family, too. Strange thing is that nobody ever talks about the cases so that isn't an issue at holiday get-togethers. I guess they're so tired of "shop talk," that they don't even want to hear about it when they're away from the office! Then, too, attorney-client privilege has a lot to do with it. Sometimes, though, they will compare notes on cold cases. We have one here that just can't be solved and it's been almost 25 years.

I've been reading Judy Blume's newest book "In the Unlikely Event" and it's excellent with great character development. Based on true events from the early 1950s, it's set in Elizabeth NJ and, while fiction, discusses three plane crashes in 3 months that all crashed in Elizabeth. The planes all left or were arriving at Newark Airport. I grew up in NJ and had relatives in Elizabeth and this is the first I heard of these crashes. It's one of those books I don't want to end!

Judy Blume usually writes for kids and teens but this one she wrote for the grown ups : )

The last true crime book I read Dmasy was Columbine by Dave Cullen. It was fascinating and meticulously researched, especially since there were so many stories and legends that came out of that tragedy that he had to go through and debunk. Most of the stories about people talking about God as they died, or other incidents of heroism, were ultimately completely fabricated.

I don't know if the owl theory is new, but it just doesn't sit right with me. Michael Peterson was outside with Kathleen. He was sitting by the pool, and she left to go inside. If an owl attacked her while she was still outside, why didn't he notice it? There had to have been some noise, and you'd think Kathleen would have screamed or shrieked. It's an interesting theory, but it just doesn't sit right with me. It'll be interesting to see what happens if there is a retrial.

I didn't read "outrage", but I will have to get it. "Sea" was so interesting--the remote, tropical atoll teeming with sharks and rumored to be cursed. Then the couple's disappearance, and the strange coincidence of how bones were discovered. You can see some video of Palmyra Atoll on Youtube. What a beautiful place, but such a dark history.

You might also like "Beyond Reason" by Ken Englade and "Bitter Blood" by Jerry Bledsoe. Both very good and very well written.

Another good one is "The Man in the Rockefeller Suit". That story fascinated me--first when the story of a Rockefeller kidnapping his child, then finding out that this man had successfully passed himself off as a Rockefeller for decades. And then when he was caught right up in Baltimore, not too far from where I live, I had to find out more. How did he get away with his deception for so long? The book does a great job of tracing his footsteps from his homeland (Germany) to America, to learning how to speak like Thurston Howell III by watching Gilligan's Island, and all the way up to the kidnapping and his capture, and then the murder charges catching up with him. Talk about a sociopath! This man was in a league of his own.

The owl theory is not very new, it's just taken years to get a new trial to present it. A new trial has been ordered and it will happen probably later this year unless they can reach a deal. As I recall, a neighbor who was aware that owls were in the area at that time kept insisting this should be explored. Apparently he knew of the owl feathers found in the victim's hand, a piece of evidence that everyone had just sort of not given any thought to before. Never not give thought to a piece of evidence no matter how small.

They have three independent highly specialized experts who say absolutely this could have been caused by an owl. That, and the fact that the prosecution has been back peddling like crazy looking to offer him time served, tells me they actually buy it. No prosecutor offers time served to a case in which they believe a cold blooded first degree murder has occurred. It just doesn't happen. They never back down like that unless they really think they're in the weeds and their case has holes.

No question he is a nasty, nasty man who is a slime ball cheater and a narcissist pretending to be straight living a double life. Doesn't make him a murderer though. All that is just circumstantial.

Let me pose it this way, if it WASN'T an owl, how did she end up dead clutching owl feathers?

This kind of thing really gets under my skin. Whatever happened to saving money to buy your family a couch? You expect others to pay for it because you happen to have five children and need a bigger piece of furniture? This one wants $800 for a sofa.

Whatever happened to humility and pride and a good old-fashioned work ethic? Has social media contributed so much to this sense of entitlement that it's expected that others actually fork over money so you can have a new sofa?

Speaking of which, whatever happened to the Kate fan who begged for days for money to have her car repaired. Another fan told her to pray and it would come to her. I wonder if she ever got her car fixed. I can't remember her name...Tracy?

I think that some are their own charities. You know, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

Grifting for a couch is generally ridiculous.

These gofundme sites are providing an easy way out for people to instead be resourceful and inventive. If you need a couch, you can browse Craigs List for starters. You could also ask around office buildings and see if they have any furniture they'd like to get rid of or sell for cheap. You can ask church members if they have any extra furniture. You can also go to apartments or college dorms and see if anyone is throwing something perfectly good out. It's August, you can browse garage sale listings and pick up one there.

Instead, it's one-two-three I've got a gofundme web site.

I actually saw one last week begging for funds for air conditioning. A friend of mine showed me the link, just as appalled. Here's the thing. If you cannot afford a simple and inexpensive window unit air conditioner, chances are you won't be able to afford the utility bills that follow.

Exactly. Done that.

I went without air for many years in the valley in California. It's fine, you get used to it.

Now I just have a dinky little air conditioner that mostly just blows cold air and only feels cool if you sit in front of it. If you go to another room it's like I have no air at all. I'm still surviving. I never even think about it. It's been 90 here all week and I only turn it on a few times in the late afternoons.

How did people do it before air conditioning? We've become so spoiled.

It's important for young people to figure out how they can get what they want without adults catching their fall.

I'm glad no one is giving her money. It would deprive her of an opportunity to be innovative, work hard, and think outside the box, and that would be a shame. She can figure this out. She can do some work at a studio in exchange for a few hours of studio time. She could volunteer for a musician in exchange for help. She can team up with some friends. She can figure this out.

Lots of famous musicians had one or two albums that were failures before hitting it big. That is part of the process.

How did people do it before air conditioning? We've become so spoiled.

+++++++++++++

They opened windows. When we first built our home in Florida, we had no air. I have no idea why nobody thought of installing central air, but they didn't. No room air conditioners either. We survived. There were breezes, but they were hot breezes! Looking back, those were the best years of my life. What I wouldn't give...

A number of Apprentice former contestants are scoring some small sound bytes talking about Trump. Omarosa said he didn't act like an ass around her. I suppose it takes one to know one.

If Kate were smart she could get herself a sound byte or two. But knowing her she might not even realize that Trump is running, that he's doing well, or what is even going on.

We didn't have air growing up and in fact still don't at my parents' house.

You don't need it. The house faces north and you can open windows on the north and south side of the house and let the air blow through. You open windows at night and close them in the morning and draw the shades. We spent a good deal of time in pools or the sprinkler, cooling off that way. A dip just before bed will keep you cool enough to sleep. We had ice tea and lemonade on tap and lots of ice.

They say the body adjusts to hot temperatures. Nothing wrong with air conditioning but if you don't have it, you will get used to the discomfort and after a short time it won't be that bad at all.

To me, a candidate who must attack others to make themselves look good, is a weak candidate. Unfortunately, that seems to be the "norm".

Although other candidates have attacked each other, Donald Trump seems to be the one who'll attack anyone who disagrees with him. He recently tweeted:

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump
I just realized that if you listen to Carly Fiorina for more than ten minutes straight, you develop a massive headache. She has zero chance!

Let me know where YOU stand on the issues. Not what you feel about the other candidates. This goes for both the Republican and Democratic candidates.

Yes, other candidates have attacked their opposition, but Donald Trump's whole platform seems to be about putting down the opposition to make himself look good. It's not working for me.

I think Trump's comments about Carly are truly nasty. Attack her on her position on the issues. Let's here where he differs. To poke fun at her because she has "no chance" is simply cruel. Plus, she's probably the most up and coming of any of them besides himself. He may just find himself standing next to her soon.

Trump should be aware that lots of people who end up making the ticket once had "no chance."

All I can say, is get over it, Donald. He seems to feel that Megyn and Fox News put him in a bad light. He can't take what he feels is "criticism" and will attack anyone who he feels has criticized him.

But in the meantime, he can criticize those he feels have "wronged" him.

redbird said...

My tv satellite has been out since last Monday. The tech came this morning to fix it. He was a young man and he was a hoot! He got a phone call from his wife about what food and drinks to get. Dr. Pepper was the winner. I kinda laughed about the Dr. Pepper choice, because one of my sons and I love Dr. Pepper.

When he got off the phone, I apologized to him for laughing because my son and I are huge fans of DP. Then that opened the floodgates. He told me that when he and his older brother were in foster care that the only thing they were allowed to drink was DP because that is what the FP drank. He said he loved it but his brother hates it with a passion and he said if someone today told him he would have to drink a DP that he would lose it. I told him, Oh, my gosh, the FP traumatized you and him both. He totally agreed.

I then said, hey, you know the Coca-Cola bottles now you can get personalized that say, Have a Coke with and then a name? Why don't you send your FP's a Coke each that says, Have a Coke with Larry, and one with your brother's name? He went bananas, and I said, wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall to see their reaction?

He got so fired up about it. I told them, I hope they are still alive. He said, Yes, they are. He said before he got on the road, he was going to put it in his phone on his calendar and put my name and phone number to call me to tell me what happens. It just made his day.

The Old Florida Fish House is a pretty upscale restaurant judging from their website. The tweeter said they saw Kate but didn't say anything about the kids. Also, that restaurant is almost an hour away from Destin which is a lot of trouble to load up 8 kids and a bunch of camera crew.

It will be interesting to see when the show airs if she took the kids. I'm thinking her and Steve took a night out for themselves and the film crew wasn't included. The Old Florida Fish House is not the type of restaurant where a piecing and patching mom of 8 would take a bunch of kids. I bet the restaurant is never even shown in the episode.

I agree. Discussing such topics objectifies women and encourages a misogynist view that a woman's worth only relates to her sexual performance and breasts.

For her to then act concerned about some similar crass comments about women does seem a little much. However, Trump should just send out the link and let everyone judge for themselves. He doesn't have to call her a doo-doo head too for someone like me to get the point.
