We all worked on 'the career.' As if it were a totally separate entity in the room.

Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work is full of all kinds of layers and insight into the world of celebrity, women entertainers, groundbreaking comedy, workaholics, and the self-absorbed. One of those layers is Joan's only child, daughter Melissa, a celebrity now in her own right and every bit as sharp as her mother. This is a serious profile of someone who spent her life trying to be anything but.

If you watch this for anything, check out Melissa's thoughts on being raised by one of the most famous female celebrities to ever live.

"This business, you are mud your whole life," Joan explains when she talks about decades of rejection. And one of her funniest, oldest jokes about men and valuing a woman's intelligence: "No man ever put his hand up a woman's dress looking for a library card." Lol.

Thanks for your candor and rest in peace, Joan Rivers.

Totally off topic, but I just wanted to drop in and post a comment.

Funny how Kate getting another special (season?) in December was the last straw for me. I honestly held out hope that the end was near for her, but she has more lives than a cat. Celebrity Apprentice is coming up, her new show and Robert's book seems to have run its course. Kate seems to get a pass on every fricking this she does, including child abuse! I haven't figured out why the media is giving her this pass. I honestly truly can't figure it out.

So for me, Kate wins. She doesn't win in the ways it counts. She has no respect in the industry, no friends, no family, etc BUT, she still wins because she doesn't care about those things. The things she does care about (money, pseudo-fame, etc) is what she does have. So in that respect she does win. I'm so over it. I'm so over her. Kate wins. She is never never going away. She will never be asked the hard-hitting questions, she will never be held accountable.

Enough said, I guess. I just had to get this off my chest. Now I'm off to work.

I just looked at that pic and what the hay? That young woman looks nothing like Mady with the exception of just a little bit around the eyes. It's such a pity when people think that all people of another race look alike.

Also count my vote in as Milo's comment about Mady probably not being into tennis as ultimate creepy. That is so Sy from One Hour Photo, may he rest in peace.

TLC stinks said...

Not spelling Mady's name correctly is a giveaway that Milo is NOT a Gosselin fan. A fan knows everything about the family, so Milo must be some catfish used to promote Kate on Twitter. Such a dumb mistake. We have all wondered about some of the comments Milo has made that do not jive with what an older married mother would say. Milo exists to tangle with "haters" on Twitter and keep a conversation going about Kate. I cannot wait for the day it comes out what resources Kate and Steve are using. Steve is just as sneaky as Kate...the perfect couple.

To me it's a dead giveaway she doesn't care two hoots about the kids. This has always been about Kate, and the kids are really a nuisance to her. If anything, the kids stand in the way of her and Kate. She only brings up the kids to brownnose with Kate, otherwise she doesn't care. Thus she can't be bothered to learn after five years how Mady spells her name.

I totally get your frustration and I can relate. Sometimes it just seems so futile to keep trying to give those kids a voice when at every turn Kate just continues to exploit them.

I will say this, I believe Kate will one day be held accountable in the way it counts the absolute most. Maybe not all, but at least some of her children are going to call on her on it.

Some of them will ask her why she didn't just go get a job instead of constantly making everything about their lives entertainment for strangers. They will ask her why she never defended their father and seemed to encourage strangers to bad mouth him public.

I truly believe that she will pay the price by way of the relationships, or lack thereof, with her children and likely her grandchildren.

I have no doubt that karma will eventually come calling. The DVD's are out there and so is Mr. Hoffman's book, she can't hide, avoid or deflect forever.

I think she has paid the price for a lot of things, including she has lost a great best friend in Beth, as well as a good husband and father, and many other broken relationships. As you said those things don't hold the same currency as they do for most normal people.

Karma will come around fully but I think we need to keep in mind that we might not be aware of it when it happens. Karma may come in that many years from now one or more of her children may choose to limit or even outright cut her out of their lives. However, we may never know that. It's possible even now her relationship with them is not as perfect as she makes it seems. We certainly saw some indication there may be something going on with Cara. But it's not like she's going to take to twitter and announce that Cara hasn't spoken to her in two weeks or whatever. We just don't know.

Mel said...

I think that the reason the national media doesn't cover the abuse of the G8 is because a) she is no longer news to the majority of the tv watching world, and b) the abuse happened in the past, and c) because shows like the Talk and the View don't report the news, they just comment on it. So much "news" is recycled from other sources--look how many blogs and tabloids pick up Radaronline stories and just add a commentary to it. If the kids want to speak out on what happened, once they are released from Alcatraz, hopefully, there will be opportunities to get that story out there.

I believe that it completely sucks to be Kate. It must kill her every day of her life to have been that close to the golden ring, only to see it slip away. I agree, Admin, that true relationships, which involve give and take, are not her currency. But, her fame and star treatment, most definitely, are.

I don't think that we are going to get the public tar and feathering that may be hoped for. But, that doesn't mean it isn't happening, or won't happen. The laws of karma are absolute--like gravity. What goes around, comes around. No exceptions.

To the poster who said that when she gets a little older her whining will turn into ailments. You are so right. Hopefully, there will be no little massagers there to massage her tither, hither and yon. Hope they are working or in college, getting married, starting their own families.

redbirdsings said...

Too bad TLC doesn't have common sense. If the NFL suspended Adrian Peterson for beating his child, WHY didn't TLC do the same? They are a business just like the NFL. TLC should of broke the contract and fired kate. But, no.

The money was just that good. I guess all the trips and fun things to do while filming didn't make TLC fill that guilty about kate beating the fire out of her kids with a wooden spoon. She may or may not still be beating them with the wooden spoon, but she sure is giving them mental and verbal abuse, daily.

Martha said...

Kirkland, thank you for your post. It resonated with me...I couldn't prime the pump to say it.

Nike just dropped Adrian Peterson and The Vikings have banned him from everything until the child abuse investigation resolves itself.

Yesterday Adrian Peterson was dressed head to toe with Nike. Like his last ditch effort not to get dropped. Well, they did. Just shows his arrogance. They said he actually took pieces of the branches and stuffed them in his son's mouth! What if he would of choked? He deserves to go to jail for a long time. What an arrogant piece of shitake.

TLC stinks said...

Indeed, it's about money. The NFL is concerned about the public perception and if not for the public outcry, wife and child abusers would be ignored by the NFL...business as usual. Same with TLC. You cannot tell me the crew did not know of what was going on in that house when the children were little. TLC was getting ratings and money so all the stops were pulled out to portray Kate as a Christian super mom. I do agree with others that Steve was hired to control Kate, but also I bet he was used to put out any "fires" with the crew or helpers. I also believe he was involved in bringing Jon down.

Anonymous said...

Everyone speaks of Karma as if it's something in the future. I think her Karma is now, every single day of her life. To paraphrase a book that many on this blog have read; she has to get up every morning and still be Kate Gosselin.

Think about it. Who does she hate more than anything in this world? Jon. Yet she's stuck with his name. She can't change it without slipping further into obscurity. Bet she loves that.

To most people she's not even on their radar. She was a blip on t.v. 5-6 years ago. Those days are over and they're not coming back. Most people don't know she's still around and the majority of those that do can't stand her and see her for what she is. A teeny-tiny minority think she's a nice person. Like Ex-nurse said, she had the gold ring within her grasp and she missed it.

The kids are getting older and are starting to question and they're just going to get more and more independent. Her identity is entangled with theirs. They won't have a problem when they break free, they'll still be part of a set or their own self, but she'll still be nothing, just like she is now.

So, there's your Karma folks; she's still Kate Freakin' Gosselin, and that's never going to change.

The key thing that sealed the deal in solidifying public outcry in both the Ray Rice case and the Adrian Peterson case is that there was visual physical evidence of the abuse. The public does not ignore that.

Kate has been very cunning (and lucky) in her ability to hide any marks or bruises on her kids that would be clear signs of physical abuse. The emotional and verbal abuse she has heaped upon them and Jon (while in my mind just as harmful) is not viewed by many to be as serious. Also, the allegations and accounts of her abuse have come via words on paper, which is not damning enough for all those people who actually need to "see it to believe it".

_____________________________

Kirkland, I hear and understand your frustration. The one consolation is that, while Kate continues to get some opportunities here and there, those few opportunities will never, NEVER, allow her to feel satisfied or secure. She will always feel anxiety about finding ways to make money without having to work for it herself.

Kate had so many chances to make boatloads of money - enough money so she could be set for life - but she blew every single one of them. So she will forever be unsettled, going through life conniving and scheming and plotting and hoping that something will come up. She will worry constantly about the day that WILL come when the kids will put an end to her filming dreams. That is an incredibly stressful way to live, and that stress will take its toll. So she will get more wrinkled, and weathered, and leathered, and saggier, and haggard looking. She will constantly have to pay tons of money to fix all that and try to chase youth. She will lose that race.

Kate is already seen as a pathetic excuse for a human being. And while she might not get her just-desserts in the ways we would like to see, it will be pretty satisfying to see her age "ugly", all while desperately trying to recapture fame and adulation. I like to think of her as Prometheus, with her eternal punishment being bound to that TLC rock, with fleeting fame attacking her every day.

I watched A Piece of Work the other night. What I took away from the documentary was that Joan Rivers was incredibly driven, but also that she needed the interaction with an audience like a drug. It was an absolutely necessary part of her life. Her New York home was incredible. She wanted to live a certain way and was willing to work her butt off in order to do so. I would not have been able to keep up with her, and I'm probably 30 years her junior!

Whatever I might think of her sense of humor, there is no doubt that she earned every penny she ever made. I also appreciated that she never went out without full make up and dressing to the nine's. She wanted to always look like a celebrity ought to look.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I think the kind of drive required to have such a lasting career for so long looks pretty nuts to most outsiders. Most of her former manager's tales ring true even though he's obviously bitter. It's sort of a case of what do you expect when you choose to get involved with legendary powerhouses like Cher and Joan. I enjoyed some of the inside info on CA. The one thing I related to the most was about Cher and how she hated Sonny but would put on an academy award performance in public about how much she loved him. That's exactly what my narcissist did. HATES the exes but would never let on in public. In fact in public they are actually best friends! It seemed very disingenuous to me trying to act like you are some special breed of wonderful forgiveness and understanding when you know you loathe them, though I don't think there's anything particularly wrong about being polite in public. It's more than what Kate did.

________
That is actually my point--the victims of Sandusky came forward. If any of the Gs come forward, it will probably get media attention, also. And, the Sandusky case involved a major scandal at a university, that was perpetrated by an employee. The Sandusky case is much more like the Catholic Church abuse and coverup, because they involved established institutions. I just don't agree that women will support another woman under any circumstances. I think that many of us that had challenging times raising children could relate to the frustration and chaos. I think that I do extend some latitude that people choose to deal with negative behaviors in a variety of ways, some of which I absolutely don't agree with. Obviously, the info that came out in the book crossed the line, I would think for most people, from discipline to abuse. Which is universally considered to be unacceptable. Except for Milo, who thinks that because she was hit, and turned out OK, it is OK. But I hardly think that many women share her perspective at all. TFW is pretty much universally disliked, but most people just don't give her a thought at all. To most of the world, she is nobody at all--she is not an athlete, an A or B list celebrity, and she is a pathetically transparent fame whore. Why would the media bother with her at all?

But the public is not stupid. We know Kate has hired help, she does nothing except bitch/whine/cry/complain about how hard life is for her. Every time Kate is quiet, she is up to something, masterminding her way back into TV. Kate is going to film, film, film until TLC gets tired of her. And she is going to get as much perks and money out of TLC. But, this time it is of TLC choosing not Kate's. Like the filming in NE, that would not be Kate's choice, that was TLC's choice, even the air date is TLC choice. JMO

ITA, Auntie Ann. Cannot wait for Billy's book. The CA insight was awesome. Totally Trump. For those of you interested, here 's an excerpt from the 2012 Daily Beast interview with Joan's former talent manager. He's bitter, but it's ok because he tears into some stars, and since we know Kate is a pile of BS, I like someone telling what they witnessed:

So to make this very long story a bit shorter, I also agree to be one of three plants at the staged charity auction of Ivanka Trump jewelry in order to bid the lots up and make it all look legit. That’s a laugh. Trump makes his humorless entrance that night like he’s a U2 boat commander. But by the end of the night—I had already spent $8,000 of the $9,000 I had been pledged by those impending friends of Joan—this plant got played himself since no other plant bid against me when I was told by some production assistant to bid $10,000 for a pair of earrings in the last lot, thinking I was just starting off the bidding for a grand finale. Suddenly I hear “Sold!” I was no longer a plant but just some Jewish schmuck in the front row with a new pair of Ivanka Fucking Trump earrings. So at the end of that night I was fit to be tied . . .

So, finally, to cut to the chase. I get a phone call from my accountant who wants to know why I am spending $18,000 on my credit card, which is going to someplace called Reilly Worldwide. Are you ready, doll face? Reilly Worldwide, I come to find out, is owned by Mark Burnett and my American Express statement clearly shows that the money that was "pledged" for charitable reasons to help my client not “get fired” on The Celebrity Apprentice was charged on my statement as Reilly Worldwide … not to a charity. I told my accountant that I don't consider Mark Burnett and/or Donald Trump a charity and they have enough fucking money to donate their own money to a charity, but that they sure as hell weren’t going to get away with donating my money under their name to a charity. No! No! No! So I disputed it. That was my undoing. That was what got me fired. Apparently one of the executive producers of Celebrity Apprentice went to Joan and said that your manager is disputing the charge. Why go to my client and not to me? Not only was it not the truth (I was disputing that the charge was not a charity) but it also let to my eventually getting fired (just like Celebrity Apprentice!). American Express resolved the issue when Reilly Worldwide agreed to have the charity send me a charitable deduction receipt directly, but if I had not disputed the charge, it seems that would never have happened.

But Joan worships Donald Trump—and everyone with money and power—and said she’d give me the money to pay it off, because she wanted to win Celebrity Apprentice and actually thought disputing the charge on my credit card would make her lose Celebrity Apprentice and that Trump would be mad at her ... and that this could destroy her career. And then her business manager called to say that she said she would advance me the money but not give it to me. I told him it was not about advancing me the money or not, but the principle of the thing to me. I wasn’t going to let everyone get away with this. Joan waited until she won The Celebrity Apprentice and then fired me. All during the filming of the documentary, she was loving and civil to me. Five days after she won, I got an email from her business manager telling me I was fired and that she was moving in a new direction. It was as if she were telling me, this is your punishment for embarrassing me to the holy and high one, Donald Trump, the scumbag who had the moral judgment to want O.J. Simpson on The Celebrity Apprentice.

She has to look at herself in the morror every day and see Kate Gosselin, Z list celebrity and she will always be longing for the days when she was a D-lister with TLC catering to her every whim. TLC knows that she can't carry a show on her own so they may be filming filler footage making her do actual work when they know that she wants to sit on the interview couch and be pampered. One of the characters, a therapist, says the following about the quints situation: "I wouldn't wish celebrity on my worst enemy. And parents who do it to their children should be tied up by their nuts."

The book is "How the Light Gets In" by Louise Penny. This is the ninth book in a series, and the books do build on each other. I recently went through a list of the books and am "in-fill" reading the ones I missed and the latest ones. She's not light reading, but incorporates serious issues into her novels in a meaningful way.

Anyone interested in her books might want to start with this one, because of the quints connection. If you like them, go back and read the rest of the books in chronological order.

He's bitter, but it's ok because he tears into some stars, and since we know Kate is a pile of BS, I like someone telling what they witnessed:

====

The man seems to have some integrity. Some celebs lose their moral compass in trade for keeping their star status and more importantly to line their pockets. They don't care who they hurt or whose reputation they defile as long as they're still recognized as celebrities. Hell, they don't even care what A to Z-list they're on as long as they are on a list. Money means everything to them.

I have some respect for this guy Sammeth for standing up to JR and the same with Jon for challenging Kate's lawsuit. A person can only poke the bear so many times before he takes a swipe back.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I think it's super tacky to call a company out like that before even giving them a chance to fix the problem, especially when you're a celeb with a fairly big following and have the ear of some of your followers.

She is not a private person making a random comment on twitter that only 10 people will ever really see. I don't think she even thinks or cares about disparaging a company like that and this is not the first time she's done it. Look at Em Tanner. Excuse me but many people make a living by the companies you disparage and if it's a small enough company one haphazard and unnecessary tweet like that could have a huge impact. Here's a thought, settle stupid petty stuff like a broken handle offline.

I think he had unreasonable expectations about the people he was working for. He was destined to fail eventually with that attitude, as many other people with integrity before him have failed in the celebrity world. I think one of the biggest reasons celebs lose their employees is over issues of ethics and integrity. For me, I found my workplace toxic. I found that I could not continue to watch children be so neglected and forgotten. I could not put up with someone so unbelievably and forever selfish and self-absorbed and just plain mean and cutting to others, including their own children. For my own sanity, I was out. There are countless stories just like this.

Nonetheless, I also respect him for taking a stand and holding to it instead of just saying "peace out." He really was of a long ago era of managers where you're not just the manager you're the best friend, perhaps even love them, and you're devoted fully to your client. And that's another thing about many celebrities. You think you've been loyal to them for decades and that should count for something but this is a cutthroat business like few others and none of that matters if it makes sense for the celeb and brand to let you go.

Ultimately this guy was trying to protect Joan's integrity, himself being an extension of Joan. She did not see that. She interrupted it as him making her look bad in front of Trump. I understand her perspective because that's how Hollywood works--put up and shut up, don't make waves, kiss butt. He finally had had enough of doing that when it involved 9,000 of his OWN money. It was inevitable he would be fired for it. It's amazing he lated this long. I always have at least a bit of respect for anyone who chooses to expose the fraud and unethical practices of Hollywood, even if it's about a talent I generally like. Much like child abuse, it's rather taboo to expose fraud or unethical behavior in Hollywood or expose those posing as such sweet nice people or parents as freaking full of it, and it shouldn't be.

PJ's momma said...

Over. I thought that was so funny too! It does not occur to these people that Kate is paying for a babysitter NOW, while she's not working, so what is the harm in her working for some extra bucks? She can't work because she can't support 8 kids (she's not working and supporting them already) and daycare is too expensive (she's paying for help even though she's not working). Their logic has no logic.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I should add though I do understand Joan's side of things too, I really do.

She was obviously fully devoted to the advancement of her career, even Melissa explained the career was like Melissa's sibling. Joan's manager full well knew this. At the time of CA, she was feeling like her calendar would be empty for the rest of her life. She was desperate because she felt like she was done. She then unexpectedly hit it big with CA when it was something she had resisted doing in the first place. She felt there were not going to be any missteps allowed in front of Trump and that once she had hit it big again there might not be any second chances ever again.

His timing was awful in terms of where her head must have been. Her manager's actions put her between a rock and a hard place. Her career versus her manager and friend. Since the career was every bit as important as a person to her, that left her in a tough spot. To her, I imagine it was like choosing between two of your children.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The other thing that is so hysterical about the "I can't work because I can't afford a babysitter" crap is that she has a babysitter ANYWAY. And it sounds like that sitter is pretty much there whenever the kids are home.

Pretty much almost as much as you'd need a babysitter for if you worked, if you count when Jon gets them on Tuesdays and every other Friday. Not counting summers of course, but summers don't last long.

I wonder what excuse she'll say when the kids are all old enough to be babysitters themselves.

The thing is I bet they will fix it for her as long as it didn't break because of her own negligence (which is wholly possible.) Most good companies will bend over backwards to make you happy as long as you don't misuse the product which caused the problem.

I once left a review of a camping product on Amazon that did not work as advertised. I only bought a little bit of it because I was shopping around for a new brand of something I needed for camping, so I was testing it out. Amazon had prompted me to leave the review.

Wouldn't you know it a few days later the company personally replied to my review, apologized that it didn't work and immediately offered to refund my money?

I realized after well gosh I should have called them first. It didn't occur to me to do that for some reason, I guess I felt like it was such a small purchase and it had been so long, I wouldn't bother. The thing is, I'm a private person and I'm just one of hundreds of reviews of the prouduct. Kate has never accepted things are different when you're a celeb. If she suddenly says a particular product doesn't work, identifies herself when she's saying it and posts it publicly, it carries a heck of a lot more weight than an anonymous review or tweet from private people. And it's completely unfair to start spreading that message without first resolving it with the company. Just like celebs have certain obligations when they ENDORSE products, they should have them same when they trash them.

That hardly sounds like wow, I'm jumping for joy I got a new dehumidifier? Remember a couple of weeks ago: she got that phone call, then she was in NE, filming. She had something done to the house at TLC expense. JMO

--------------------------

Why would TLC pay to repair a broken dehumidifier? She tweeted the company tonight for a reason...to get their attention and either offer her a free repair or a replacement.

Mechanicals have a shelf life, and eventually things do need to be fixed or replaced. They can work fine one minute, and malfunction the next. I've had three kitchen appliances break on the same day, and it had nothing to do with throwing a tantrum or neglect or abuse. Their nine lives were up...

Ex nurse I don't think it's because the abuse happened a long time ago. The Sandusky abuse happened mostly in the early 2000s and no one batted an eyelash to crucify the entire university. I think it's mostly because she's a mother and a woman and much of society will stop at nothing to protect the phony sacredness of motherhood.
********
I do think it's more difficult for people to accept that a mother can be abusive to her own child(ren), but less so that it used to be. Sadly, we have all seen too many news stories where the mother is the abuser or worse, has murdered her own child. We know it happens.

I think there are many reasons Kate is not be currently held to the fire for the abuse detailed in Robert's book: 1. It would be more powerful if one or more of the children were coming forward (like the victims of Penn State and Sandusky), versus journal entries from a journal Robert found in the trash. 2. It is distant in time. The journal talks about these things happening when the children were toddlers. While I am pretty sure verbal abuse and possibly physical hit, swats, slaps, pinches, etc. continue - the only detailed claims are those in Robert's book. 3. Kate and the Gosselins are not really on the radar any more. The show has been off the air for a number of years, except for the two-part snoozer they recently aired.

And finally, it's hard to prove child abuse. We've discussed this before, that it seems like it takes the most severe of situations before CPS can remove a child from its home. I would say that is because the law has tended to lean in favor of "keeping the family together" and "parental rights." The rights of children still fall way down on the list of priorities.

And I know you didn't mean it the way it sounded, but there is a sacred aspect inherent in mothering, when done with love. A woman risk's her life with every pregnancy. She gives of herself 24/7 the first few weeks. After that, her life is still subsumed to the needs of her infant child. In those early moments and days, that's when a baby learns what it means to be cared for, loved, never left alone. At least that's what happens when a mother knows and loves to fulfill that sacred duty to her young. There is nothing phony about seeing the sacredness of motherhood. It's just that there are certain percentage of moms who are all talk but no action. Their leader is Kate Gosselin.

(And I also think dads can and should be dedicated parents as well, and form a special bond with their children. But they can't carry the baby for 9 months, dealing with morning sickness, swollen feet, waddling in your 9th month and wearing maxi pads just in case you accidentally leak some pee, or breastfeed. So while it's all good, it's not quite the same lol.)

====

And there's the rub. She was a 78-year-old fading star who couldn't accept that her career was petering out so she sacrificed a 20-plus-year relationship to revive it. She she was either too vain or too insecure to let that happen. What is it with narcissists that they do these things? They need their narcissistic supply sooo badly that they'll throw their friends and family under the bus, toss their business partners to the curb, stoop to any low or go to any length to keep that supply coming. They don't really care about anything or anybody as long as they're getting what they need to pump themselves up. Talk about addicts - that IS the definition of an addict.

I guess I don't see a whole lot of difference between what Joan Rivers did and Kate Gosselin does when it comes to getting what need to stay in the limelight. In fact I can almost picture Ratclaws some day in the future giving the same interview as Joan's ex-manager. ha!

“If there was another way to singly support eight children, you would not know this name and I would be on an island, and so would they. You would never hear from us again.”

You know, I think this is one of the biggest things that irritates me about this woman. The reality is that she is not the only woman with multiples or a large family, and yet these people seem to manage to pull it off on a regular salary.

Yes, it would mean your kids wouldn't likely go to private school but my understanding is that the schools in her area are good public schools. Yes, it would mean you'd probably have to downsize to a house with less square acreage and give up the chickens. A lot of places will let you keep a few chickens in your backyard. Just check your count's ordinances.

I'd say that yes, her kids would likely have to cut down on some of their activities, but except for the twins, we don't know that the sextuplets do anything but come home after school, do homework and chores, play with each other, then go to bed.

Yes, she'd likely have to just have one maybe two cars. I think she'd survive.

I think the reality is a lot of the people with multiples or large families also have extended family and friends to rely on. Kate, by her own doing, doesn't have that same support, but again she has no one to blame but herself.

So if I could have five wishes this year, one of them would be for some interviewer to call her on this.

I'd actually have more respect for her if she just came out and said "You know, I like being on tv, yes there are drawbacks like having your house become a soundstage but honestly the money is worth it and that allows me to provide for the kind of lifestyle I want for my family. Mind you, I wouldn't agree with her and I'd point out it's more than just Kate putting herself out there. But honesty, even when I disagree, is better than trying to justify the unjustifiable, imo.

If she "just got" the humidifier and it broke, this is simple. You take it to the store and tell them it's defective. They give you your money back or an exchange. Big whoop. She is so incapable of functioning in the world.

She never lost her phone. It's attached to her at all times. You were supposed to think she was cute and funny, implying that the projects were so big and important that her phone could have gone missing. You didn't get it because she is neither cute nor funny.

The thing is I bet they will fix it for her as long as it didn't break because of her own negligence (which is wholly possible.) Most good companies will bend over backwards to make you happy as long as you don't misuse the product which caused the problem.

------------
So Kate takes to twitter to complain about her appliance? Geez, if it was brand new, take the receipt (ya know she has one, she's a freak about receipts!lol) back to the store with the defective appliance and return or exchange it. duh

As far as companies wanting to please their customers:
A few months ago, I purchased a brand new Whirlpool microwave. Each morning for about a week, I noticed that the digital clock was a little behind. After a few days of correcting it, I called the company and told them this:
My entire kitchen is equipped with whirlpool appliances (I purchased another whirlpool to replace the previous whirlpool microwave, not that there as anything wrong with the first one, but it was getting old and I thought it needed replacing).
The company rep tells me this:
We are sorry, but we do not warrantee 'cosmetic components' of our appliances. As long as they perform their primary function we consider than operable".

I then told her that would be the LAST whirlpool appliance I would ever buy. I called Lowe's and they said THEY guaranteed their stuff, and for me to return it. I now own a GE microwave..and the clock WORKS!.

I couldn't believe Whirlpool didn't care enough about my brand loyalty over a stupid clock.

My gosh. What a hard life this woman has! A broken handle. WTH! This is why I cannot stand her. Even those of us with husbands have to deal with MAJOR household issues and she tweets about a freakin' broken handle? This is something that elevates her above everyone else because she is a SINGLE mother who has to deal with, you know, the annoyances of life? Please, this woman is freakin' nuts and I feel badly for those children if they don't toe the line. Remember her freaking about about the peeled globe or that lovely outburst on film about the drawer knobs? Screaming at toddlers? You cannot tell me those children are not abused for minor "infractions". Geez. Nuts. Way to go, TLC. Keep airing shows about nut bags ( and supporting child abuse by covering it up).

Tucker's Mom said...

As for her comment to Frigidaire, I think it is wrong to use Twitter in that manner. Every user manual has a toll-free support number to call if anything breaks. The problem for TFW is that would require her to pick up the phone and spend 15 minutes of her precious time talking to the service center and getting a replacement part sent to her.
**********
Bingo.
It's immature, passive aggressive and lazy.
When something breaks, who the heck thinks the solution is to take to Twitter and piss about it?
But, you hit the nail on the head. Kate's job is to manipulate her way through life, not actually DO the heavy lifting herself.

TLC stinks said...

Kate tweets companies because she thinks she is a celebrity whose opinion or concerns matter to them. Underlying the tweets are an attempt to grift because she has eight kids (so what?). I grew up with many big families and everyone managed just fine without begging or lying. Nobody had housekeepers, nannies, yard boys, millions in the bank, etc, etc. Kate Gosselin has gotten away with plenty, unfortunately, but I suspect the majority of people don't care about her stupid household issues and are tired of her whining. What a leech! She schemed her way into millions but it's never enough.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

And it would probably be so much faster to just give the company a call. I Bet they would replace the handle immediately even if it were due to her own negligence. That's just how a company like that is. She really is quite helpless. I Would say it's amazing she's raised eight kids but then the nannies and Jon do that too so it's hard to gauge how helpless things really would be if she ever actually had to do it on her own. She's totally the type of parent who always forgets to sign the permission slip or doesn't buy their kid deodorant until the teacher has to send an awkward note home about it.

TLC stinks said...

OK, this is what I do not understand about her handful of fans . . . are they so sheltered and so helpless that they think dealing with a broken appliance handle is on a scale of a household disaster? Some of these tweeters cannot be real housewives. I would like to think 95% of women have the ability to use their common sense . Kate has got to be paying people to make these crazy tweets of support and praise. And I still think Milo is fictional.

Tucker's Mom said...

Kate tweets because she thinks her inflated Twitter numbers wields power.
She put #Frigidaire (or insert any company she's done this to) on the spot, vs. calling them PRIVATELY, resolving the problem and THEN tweet about how helpful they were.

Also, a handle? BFD. A handle should not affect the working function of the darn thing.
Kate runs roughshod over everything and wonders why stuff breaks.
The list of stuff that has broken under her watch is not normal.

And as we've said before, the kind of "crisis" TFW whines about
is really no big deal for her. For Jane Q. Single Mom, there are
2 major issues when an appliance breaks down: having to stay
home from work to wait for a repair, and having to pony up a
possible exhorbitant amount for the repair. TFW is jobless and
rich, so I don't have one iota of compassion for the drama she's
trying to ramp up.

Even the "flood" is a yawn. A few gallons of water have spilled?
Toss down a bunch of towels to dry things up, which you can then wash and dry in your top-of-the-line appliances.

I agree. In interviews, she makes it sound like she needs this kind of job to keep food on the table, a basic roof over their heads, and clothes on their backs. No, it is about keeping a very expensive lifestyle, which includes an expensive home and private school for the kids, and surgical procedures and a hair and makeup stylist and road manager.

And, to add insult to injury, she throws in the old "like ALL moms", as if she is trying to live a mediocre life. Joan was upfront that she loves her lifestyle, and is willing to work hard to maintain it. And, her wealth was earned, and clearly a very diligent worker. Obviously not a perfect mom, but at least she seemed to have some self-awareness that she was addicted to work and lived to be on stage. I was not a fan of much of her humor, but she did have genuine talent and a killer work ethic.

It really just highlights how superficial and inauthentic TFW is. It also shows what terrible advice she is getting--or, probably the lack of advice she is getting. No one seems to know how to help her....sadly, I doubt there is anyone left who cares to.

I really think that she's not so concerned about getting the humidifier fixed. If it's still under warranty, that would not be a problem. I think her main motive is to try to get Frigidaire to replace the carpeting in the basement.

Yep. That's exactly what I thought when I read it. She lifted it to dump the water, and the handle broke and she spilled the water on the carpet. Not long ago, I came home to find the line to the ice maker in my refrig had split and water was gushing out like the faucet was on full force. No exaggeration. My kitchen floor (marble) was under water. I shut off the line, mopped up what I could, went out and rented a wet vac and got the rest of the water out of there. Kate could never handle something like this, and no, I didn't tweet (no Twitter) the appliance company to tell them the ice maker malfunctioned. I called in the plumber and had it repaired.

As well as the dehumidifier. How much damage could one gallon of water cause to a tiny area of the carpet? Geez...you get out what you can and dry it out. Why would the company replace her carpet? If damage is so great (and I can't believe that it would be), certainly she has homeowners insurance to take care of the carpet. Even if it's not covered under the policy, it's not the company's responsibility to replace the carpet, She'd have to prove damages and would look like a fool taking pictures of a wet carpet that clearly would dry out. It's not like she spilled bleach or a chemical that would damage the color/composition of the rug. It's water!

No biggie, but it has to be fixed. Last night I went to move a chair to get it out of my son's way so he could maneuver his crutches better and I accidentally swung the chair around and shattered my oven door. Glass everywhere. She's a grifter. She always will be a grifter. Frigidaire, Great Northern, and the rest of them don't care one bit if six or so non-fans refuse to buy their products. Why do they even waste the time? Totally OT, but I thought it was a cute story and one that I've never seen posted on our local news before:

"SILVER SPRING TWP., Pa. —Police are attempting to identify a female teddy bear and return it to its owner.

The bear was discovered by an officer on patrol in the 6600 block of Carlisle Pike in the southbound lane.

It was found in a white plastic bag that also contained a sleeping bag, sheets and pillows. It is suspected that the teddy bear and other items may have fallen off of a passing vehicle on its way to or returning from a sleep over.

In the report, police say the teddy bear "is currently in good spirits and is anxious to return home."

Accompanying the story is a photo of the bear. :) It just kind of made me smile!

I agree with all comments re the "flood". Towels will do a lot, and as it gets drier, stepping on them will force the water out of the carpet into the towels. Or if you have a wet vac or carpet shampooer, use that. If it's too big a job for the tools on hand, rent a carpet shampooer at your local supermarket. My daughter knew that in her early twenties. She also knew how to shut off the water to a toilet, which is more than her house-mate did.

I hadn't thought of her grifting for new carpet. I thought she expected a disaster recovery team to show up armed with industrial strength wet-vac, dehumidifiers, fans, and people who "know how to help her".

She can look through the windows to see when things break. She doesn't need a list.

She forgot to mention the lint filter, or was that included with the dryer problem?

I just hope Kate never has an issue with the sewer pipes, and raw sewage leaks into her basement. She'll have to call out the National Guard.

I say the handle broke because it was one of the kids' many jobs. An adult would probably cradle something heavy with their other hand because, it would be easier to carry and from experience, an adult could judge if the handle was strong enough. She absolutely did not say the handle broke for HER. Like I said, some poor tup (probably a boy) got screamed at. The best thing you can buy is a small vet vac. PA Dutch Mom - that is a cute story, and I hope the bear is reunited with its owner soon :)

Reminds me of when I was a little girl, driving down the road with my mother at the wheel of our Dodge van. My two younger sisters were also in the van, and the youngest was foolishly dangling our baby dolly out the window when, oops! It fell onto the roadway. Of course, cries of distress from the back seat and my mom pulled over, but it was a four-lane road and she wasn't going to run out into traffic to get the dolly.

Turns out a UPS driver was behind us, saw the doll fall and he stopped and retrieved it for us.

Some people may be mean or party poopers, but there are way more nice people in the world and that UPS driver was one of them. (By the way, if either of the two sisters in the van at the time read this blog, they will immediately recall this story and my secret identity will be revealed to them lol)

Since shoes and Shoka are not allowed inside the house, Kate's reasoning is that the carpet does not get dirty. And she's not a neat freak, she's a control freak who makes others do the dirty work. The whole OCD crapola was exaggerated for TV. Her deal is simply wanting control and that means every house rule must be followed, because to not follow the rules means you are not under her French tipped thumb which is inexcusable in Kate's mind.

True, but if they are fans, doesn't that speak volumes about their intelligence level and their critical thinking ability? I mean, you can't be all that bright if you admire Kate and look to her for inspiration. Think about the ones who needed to know how long to freeze cookies, or the one who wanted to know if the bread maker sliced the bread. I really do think that they are very needy, very "slow" people who are serious about the questions they ask and the comments they make.

I do wonder, though, about Milo. Is she so addicted to Kate that she has to stick her nose in her business, setting herself up as Twitter CEO, or does she sit around thinking about comments to make to annoy the haters and torment them? Or, quite possibly, both.

Awwww, that's just so sweet. Like Millicent (186), it reminds me of a time something similar happened. Daughter lost her Teddy in a shopping mall parking lot when she was barely three.

We didn't even realize until bedtime that Bear was gone and we searched the house high and low. Finally, Hubby decided to go check the mall parking lot on a lark...I figured an excuse to get away from the crying and have a pint. ;)

When he walked in the door with her beloved stuffed animal, that was soaking wet with muddy water, and handed it to her, I think it cemented in Daughter's mind, and mine too, that her father is an amazing guy.

This kind of thing just restores your faith in humanity. Thanks for the reminder, PA Dutch. :D

Lol. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Poor Kate got a copy and paste job as "help."

I think she has an unusually high amount of breakdowns and malfunctions, though I can't remember them all as well as that obsessed creep Milo can. I suspect she is probably overly rough and careless with the nice things she has. I base this on things like watching her drag that vacuum so roughly across a bunch of rocks on the RV trip, or not paying attention to a loose bird right next to her cake. We have SEEN her be careless in her life.

If you treat things like that, they are likely to break down more often. Poor you. You don't have to treat things in your life like a porcelain doll, but a reasonable amount of care and maintenance and you'd be surprised how far things last.

She can't help herself, she has to get in another slam at the company.

Not that it's any excuse, but I really don't think she gets what she's doing. She truly thinks it's okay to just randomly slam them like that, I don't think she realizes she's even slamming them. She thinks she's just talking, sharing information. This is part of narcissism, you don't recognize your own assholery. That goodness it wasn't some small time deal again like Em Tanner where one offhand comment like that could have the potential to put your livelihood in serious jeopardy. One thing I felt the most sorry for Em about was when she seemed to be indicating she was worried for her livelihood if her drama with Kate continued on.

Again, you have a certain responsibility with your words and actions when you are a celebrity. It is what it is. A lot more people are listening and influenced by you. You need to own that. If you don't want that responsibility, you may choose not to be famous.

You're right. She does it without thinking. She has never been able to think things through...how will this affect so and so, or can this be misunderstood, and if so, it's best left unsaid? It's almost as though there's something wrong with the way her brain is wired. I wonder if she has some sort of disability when it comes to cognitive thinking. Maybe it's not all narcissism at work.

Then again, it sounds to me like she's just miffed that they didn't give her a brand new one.

Wow that's amazing. You can google around and see how some people are able to do this with their cars because they clean the interior every other day or whatever. A car with 100,000 miles looks brand new.

I don't think you have to go that far but like I was saying, a little maintenance and care can go a very long way. Sort of like that old tip just clean things as you go. The longer you sort of let things go, let the dirt and dust sink in, the harder the dirt gets caked on and the shorter the lifespan. Same with being careless. If you just slow down with your work and don't whip things around or drag them or misuse them or yank on some handle that maybe really wasn't meant to lift up the whole thing, things don't break so darn much.

Not saying she has Aspergers but I work with a few people who have this and they are like this too. It's not a case of knowing what you say is mean, uncalled for, unwise, etc., but saying it anyway because you just want to for whatever reason--because you're in a bad mood or don't like the other person or are frustrated or whatever. It's a case of being in a fine mood, have no issue with anyone, but are completely unaware that you shouldn't be saying what you're saying. There's a difference. What she does is similar to someone who has grave difficulty with social cues. Who can easily hurt someone's feelings both without intending to and without realizing it.

She truly doesn't get why saying that might be mean or hurtful to those running a company. Probably makes no difference to a big one, but she does it to small time companies too where it could.

I live in an area with hard water. The water comes out of the tap white and on a few occasions rust colored. It's safe to drink but not pretty to look at. Most people buy filtered water from the dispensers in the grocery store for drinking.

Anyway, it's a common preventative maintenance to wash the dishwasher with an acidic agent. Usually citric acid. They sell the cleansers in the store. It cleans off the hard water deposits in the dishwasher and on the sprayers. It turned my friends orange dishwasher white. It was orange when she moved in.

Preventative maintenance is important for all pieces of equipment.
