Five important lessons from 'The Armstrong Lie'

"The truth in all this is hard. Such a huge number of people wanted to believe so bad, that they hated anyone who didn't believe, and hated anyone who questioned it."

The Armstrong Lie is a documentary chronicling Lance Armstrong's comeback tour. The documentary had completed most of its filming when Lance's lies were exposed and he was subsequently banned from the sporting world. The filmmaker then went back to the cutting room floor and re-edited the film to incorporate the story of a dramatic fall from grace.

Here are five lessons to be learned from his powerful work:

1. Lying catches up eventually.

This is an obvious one. Lance was described by many as a gifted storyteller, able to craft a careful and compelling lie to sell products, and himself. If anyone was equipped to deceive, it was him. Lies piled up upon lies so effortlessly for the star that some friends said they didn't think he even knew he was lying. But a house built on sand will eventually fall, and so too did Lance's deceitful empire.

2. Suing can't always make your problems go away.

Sometimes the nice guy
finishes first in the end.
Lance used his incredible wealth and power to try to make his critics shut up, often suing or threatening lawsuits, and for many people it worked and they crawled into a black hole and disappeared. But Lance's former teammate, Frankie Andreu, and Frankie's wife Betsy, were determined to get the truth out there. They had nothing to lose. Frankie had already confessed his own wrongdoing, admitting he used performance enhancing drugs during several races, and he was too old to get back into the sport anyway. The Andreus also felt very burned by Lance. They felt that Lance's continued insistence on sticking to his lies when Frankie and many others had long ago owned up to what they did wrong, was perpetuating a dark cloud over the cycling world. Lance also used to be their close friend, and they felt betrayed that he would contradict their story and smear their names when they knew they were telling the truth (Betsy once accidentally found a cooler filled with banned substances in Lance's bus). Betsy especially was a woman of principles who deeply resented cheaters and liars. Lance didn't understand someone caring more about their principles than their money, because Lance is, quite obviously, without principles.

When Armstrong realized the Andreus weren't going to back down, he upped the ante by having some of his people threaten them. Even that didn't work. Lance also orchestrated campaigns to shut others up, like his former friend Jonathan Vaughters. Lance eventually apologized to Betsy, and whether it was sincere (many viewers will think it's not) it was an apology she accepted graciously. Betsy, with all her courage and determination, as well as her penchant for forgiveness, emerges from the documentary a key reason the house of cards fell, and the voice of morality. She is a modern day hero and whistleblower.

3. Your haters may have a point.

Armstrong chose to frame his critics as haters and liars, and tried to get rid of them through intimidation and lawsuits. Much of the media was reluctant, and scared, to believe the critics. However in the end the critics were right. If a bunch of people are jumping up and down trying to explain that something is just not the way it seems, they just may be on to something.

4. Quitting while you're ahead is often a good thing.

Quite simply, Lance got greedy. Three or four first place finishes weren't enough, he wanted more. Most Lance historians agree that had he simple stopped at the top of his game, none of this ever would have come out.

5. Journalists should never be fans too

This reminded us so much of Kate Coyne and her odd defense of all things Kate Gosselin. The filmmaker admitted he was a fan of Lance, and set about to make a documentary about his hero. The fi
Kate Coyne
lm was almost complete before the filmmaker finally got a clue that the house of cards was falling. Perhaps being so enamored with the guy prevented him from seeing the truth. As a result, he had to tell the story in hindsight. Had he been willing to open his eyes to his hero, he could have become the greatest whistleblower of them all and a hero himself. He was too busy being a fan to realize he had a Pulitzer story within his grasp. A journalist should never become so captivated by their famous subjects or the story they are telling that they miss the truth.

The Armstrong Lie is available on Netflix, Redbox, and many other outlets.

We may feel Easter baskets are appropriate at any age but many teens go through a phase where such things embarrass them. I can just imagine a young woman Mady and Cara's age being mortified by such things let alone want their mother to post a photo about it.

STFU Parents was not saying don't give your child an Easter basket. They were saying don't give them enough junk to fill 10 baskets, which is what the pictures they posted portrayed. They actually specifically said one basket with a few things is fine. STFU has their enemies but they are actually pretty reasonable most of the time and I rarely see them pick on anyone who wasn't being completely and utterly ridiculous.

I now see the clipboards and ribbon ties on the chairs! What on earth is that? Their individual chore list? W T Heck? That nut is crazy! They are TIED onto the chair!

Those baskets look like Christmas. I agree that the Toys R Us bags contained the Lego boxes that she had them pick out to put in their Easter baskets. You just don't do that. Take your kids to the store and let them pick out their gifts in their Easter basket.

It is suppose to be a surprise!

Strange, I don't remember anyone in her family being in the military, because she is just so militaristic.

Formerly Duped said...

Maybe the clipboards were to help whoever stayed with the kids during CA? Like food preferences, allergies, things to take to school? I'm being charitable- I think it may be personalized chore lists, too.Or maybe Kate needed to know who needed to 'happy up' each day :(

"No pictures of Mady or Cara by request". If I am not mistaken, this would be the first time Kate has ever respected (and publicly acknowledged) a wish from her kids. Who knows, it may be her own children that shut her down in the future, now that would be Karma.

There is a difference in being ''militaristic'' and being controlling. TCFW is controlling.

How would the children know who to thank for the gifts if TCFW didn't take them to choose the gifts, then take them away till Easter, only allowing the children to have them in the Easter baskets? For TCFW the entire point of any occasion is to shower HER with praise and thanks...not thanking some Easter bunny or Santa Claus!!

You're never to old for the Easter Bunny. I still make baskets for my grown kids. When they were little it was easy to fill w/ "summer" stuff, like bubbles, jump rope, sidewalk chalk new bathing suit. Then nail polishes, make up, flip flops. paint ball ammo. I always went to a local candy shop, I figured if I was going to give them "junk" it was going to be good junk. I still get my white chocolate bunny from my husband and he got peanut butter eggs, etc. With only two kids, I admit they were spoiled, but not rotten kids. My mother always had a Russel Stover bunny for me, even when I was married. I always gave her an Easter Lilly or tulips. My daughter gave me a purple calla lily today and my son bought me an Easter Lily earlier in the week. We were big on family traditions.

Barbies are good for this age, rather see that than more electronic type stuff. The boys have a few years of legos left too, they get bigger harder sets and they like to make them and display the best ones. Glad the twins didn't want to be in any pics. Not because of peer pressure, I'm sure lots of kids that age still get baskets.

AuntieAnn said...

I think this gift giving thing at Easter is the result of commercialism. Sue me for thinking that, I don't care. The real meaning seems to be lost on so many.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Easter has somehow morphed into Christmas with FB Easter postings looking more like Christmas than Easter.

When I was a kid we didn't expect gifts. We dyed a few eggs which was great fun, and we got an Easter basket with a few bits of candy and maybe a small toy. That's it. We didn't expect presents like at Christmas, that's just not how it was. Boy have things changed, if FB is any indication. Kids are getting real GIFTS like you would at Christmas. Not only does this nonsense distract from the meaning of Easter but it puts pressure on middle class families to come up with a smorgasbord of gifts on the order of Christmas when there is already enough pressure to do so in December. And for what? Good on STFU parents for calling them out.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I'm sure all easily embarrassed teens get Easter baskets however I guarantee you they are not all gushing in school Monday morning at what Peter Cottontail brought them or how many pink and purple Easter eggs they found on the property.

It's a bit of a more "kiddie" oriented holiday than Christmas, which tends to have something for all ages. Easter is a bit more focused on activities for the younger crowd. I imagine the twins not wanting pics posted is a combination of feeling too old for this, as well as starting to gain an understanding of their exploitation, which will only deepen with time.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Just remembered the twins weren't filmed for Pugapalooza last weekend, and now they're MIA in the Easter pics. Maybe having Mom away for a month allowed them to taste the unexploited life for a while, and they enjoyed the experience?

I think Kate thought they'd stay in that five-year-old mindset for the rest of their lives, forever grateful for the life SHE provided for them, not the other way around.

I'm sticking to my theory that they've stayed up many a night in their room discussing what they've been put through and love their mom or not, it's payback time. Their exploited life and all the material stuff on the golden platter they have because of it will never make up for the private life they didn't have.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I remember how angry I was when I came to realize these children are exploited. Time has lessened that as well as acceptance that we did what we could and the past is the past.

On the one hand, I'm happy that the twins are getting old enough to realize what happened to them. On the other hand, my heart is in my throat for them, because if they decide they don't like what was done to them, they're going to be going through similar emotions now or very soon. Only it won't be some outsider outraged because they care for children and feels for children who are wronged. It will be emotions over things that happened directly to them. How awful. What I really cannot even imagine is the moment they realize how much Kate has padded her personal lifestyle on their backs. The twins will be first, and six other children will be right behind. They have my prayers.

I can't STAND STFU Parents. There was a time that I had them on my Facebook news feed and I became SICKENED by the way they would beg people to out their friends postings. The person who owns that site makes a killing off of it, she depends on people to "tattle" on their friends (anonymously of course) so that her followers (mostly bitter childless women) can delight in bashing these people- making huge sweeping judgments on how they are HORRIBLE parents and their children are brats who will surely grow up to be horrible human beings- all because they got a few more items in their Easter baskets then the STFU Parents readers deem acceptable.

Sure I gave my kids a few toys in their Easter baskets, spent maybe $100 on each one. And YES I posted a picture of their happy little faces with their Easter baskets on Facebook, and if one of my friends decides to submit it to STFU parents I would feel horribly betrayed. Of course I would never know who did it because they are all total cowards who do it anonymously.

STFU Parents is a huge business, that person is raking it in and laughing all the way to the bank, and if they have to bash and insult well meaning parents and children to get there then so be it because (just like kate) money is that persons only concern.

I have been a regular reader and occasional poster on this site for years now and I have always enjoyed it. I have noticed that lately people have taken their hatred of Kate to a whole new level and are reaching and stretching to extremes to justify it. To bitch and moan because she gave her kids some $20 toys for Easter- COME ON! Or to say that her 13 year olds are too old for an Easter basket- GET REAL! I cant stand Kate as much as the next gal, but some of these complaints are ridiculous IMO.

Be careful not to swing SO FAR over to the other extreme that people start looking at this site as being full of a bunch of ranting crazies that are no better then the sheep. That's how this place is starting to look to me.

I feel the exact same way. I feel so bad for them when it finally, really hits them what she has actually done to them and their brothers and sisters. The pain, torment she has put them through. At the Crayola factory, Cara was crying so bad about the markers and she cried out, mommy, it would be so much better with, me, Mady and DADDY!

Notice she didn't mention her. She knew then what a hateful witch she was. Better brace yourself, "mom". It is going to be bad.

Why in all of the things in the EB's why were they not any BOOKS? The girls: 3 different books of Nancy Drew Mysteries and 1 classic book, different each. Same for the boys, but the Hardy Boys Mysteries. and a classic book, different each. Some candy, dollar tree little gifts, 1 Barbie, 1 Lego set.

Enough. Saw a picture of the Easter party that Mariah and Nick Cannon threw for their children. Dressed over the top, no telling what it cost. The problem with this is you have to make it better and bigger year after year, especially birthdays. Then when the kid hits 16 and expects a vehicle, how much are you going to spend? 90k, 100k? Not including the concert, dancers, entertainers, dj's, venue, food.

Then the wedding! Advice: File bankruptcy.

I just wonder if Kate saw that tweet and now all of a sudden she's considerate of the kids wishes when it comes to posting pics on twitter. To me the timing is very suspect.

Hey, when my kids were teenagers they still wanted Easter baskets but it was all about the candy, and it was not public. Anyone here who has raised teenagers get that Cara and Mady are DONE with being humiliated. The others will too in a few years. Cara is almost as big as Kate and size accounts for something. Kate's days as the enforcer are limited. I don't think the twins requested they not be photographed, I bet they pretty much told Kate to stuff it. And they also are not stupid when it comes to Steve. I bet he was there.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Or to say that her 13 year olds are too old for an Easter basket- GET REAL!

&&&

Who said that? What was said is that teens that age are easily embarrassed and that one of the reasons they might not want photos is they may feel this is a bit babyish. I don't think anyone said they shouldn't get a basket at all, only that Kate shouldn't embarrass them with photos of it, which she didn't.

I distinctly remember all these things feeling very babyish to me at that age, including Easter baskets, dying eggs, and Peter Cottontail. I got over it soon, but it's a very normal phase.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

TLC Stinks, agree. Mady and Cara are entering that age where it's all about one thing "Don't embarrass me, Mom." (or Dad.) Now you add into the mix she is not just a normal mom embarrassing her kids to a few friends and family members, but to everyone who owns a TV, and talk about horrific.

Everything is embarrassing at that age. I remember adults in my life demanding to know why this or that embarrassed me. I wish those adults would not question kids going through this phase. Just accept it, try to be supportive, and be patient, knowing this is indeed just a phase and we will grow out of it.

I like STFU parents and I don't think it should be taken so seriously. It's a snark site, and I don't agree that it is mostly "childless women" at all. How do you know this? It has millions of viewers. I think it's mostly people with a sense of humor, actually. Like I said, most of the posts are from people who are being OVER THE TOP. I do not see them picking on people who really don't deserve it. And yeah, of course she is making money. There is no crime against making money for all your hard work on a web site. I would find it rather strange actually if she were doing this all for free.

The twins are not told old for freebies, though, like their mother. (or most tweens/teens) Remember, the G's don't 'do' Santa or the Easter Bunny. They have to know it's Mommy, all Mommy who does everything for them. I'm sure the twins enjoyed what they got and hopefully it was age-appropriate- maybe they picked it themselves, who knows.A few times the twins haven't been in pictures- good for them.They are really distancing themselves from the tups and the 'little kid' stuff. That's fine if they aren't mean about it to the little kids.Their privacy can be respected if Kate gives them some.

Since I read from the bottom up I just saw that Admin wrote in 27 about the same thing I was trying to say. Girls that age are embarrassed easily, especially by their parents.

Also I agree with this:

"I like STFU parents and I don't think it should be taken so seriously. It's a snark site, and I don't agree that it is mostly "childless women" at all. How do you know this? It's the over the top parents that are snarked on. I work a second job in retail and see these parents every day. They can't say no to their kids. There was the mom who came up with a full cart and a handful of small things. A 3-4 year old was walking. I rang up her handful and waited for her to unload the cart. She said "oh, I'm not getting these, she just kept putting stuff in the cart (that she obviously didn't need) and now I have to get out the door before she realizes we're not buying them." So of course the kid realized halfway to the door and started screaming while we were left to put all the crap back.

Agree Local. Somewhere along the way someone decided parenthood is sacred and cannot every be commented on or criticized. And yet these people are raising our future generations. Look at the trophy generation of today. What a mess. Employers are commenting on this in droves, saying new grads have a sense of entitlement on an order they have never seen before. This is not just old people bemoaning "kids today." This is a serious problem with serious consequences. Maybe if STFU parents had been around 15 years ago when Johnny was getting a trophy for finishing dead last in the race, we wouldn't be where we are today.

They should be called out. I don't see a problem with doing so with a sense of humor. These parents are playing a major role in what the next generation will look like. Spoiled rotten with no sense for what should be private. As much as can be called out the better. If it makes parents think twice, they've done a great service.

I wonder how Kate is going to deal with going from the best mommy in the world to please don't even breathe near me, times 8. She seems ill equipped to be able to handle such things. This is what most of us are talking about.
I don't care if people go over the top for Easter. Though it could end up down the road as a bad idea. Cause , possibly the kids will expect more for each holiday. When is too much, too much. I can see giving any teen a gift cert, or the girls some jewelery, perfume etc, the boys cool t-shirt, something to add to their hobby or interest. & of course candy. Kate does it for all the reasons above.

People have been doing this (not about Easter, particularly, just in general) since the dawn of time. It's called gossip, often malicious and hurtful. I wouldn't call it gossip so much as social commentary.

The thing is, none of these parents HAVE to post all this on FB. There is no "right" to post on FB. When you do so, you voluntarily take on the risk that someone will find your post ridiculous and over the top, send it on over to STFU, and the owner of that site might just agree it's ridiculous and over the top and repost it on her site. And people might laugh. Even if it doesn't make it to STFU, you always run the risk that someone in your circle of friends is laughing at you.

It's the same with our comments being swiped here and made fun of on sheeple sites sometimes. I know that, and that is what I sign up for when I post. If I don't like it, I don't have to post here. I don't even have to have this blog. This isn't a private clubhouse, it's the internet.

I think we really do forget that no one has a right to plaster their lives on social media. If you do, you might get made fun of. And since that site is just so gosh darn right most of the time, I applaud it. The only thing I wonder is what all these kids are going to say 10 years from now when they realize every drool and bugger was plastered all over their parents' FB pages. Maybe they'd like to know that there were quite a lot of people who were saying for quite a long time "that's not right," starting with STFU.

Preach, Admin!

canadianmom1--There's a huge difference between posting a picture of your baby all fresh and clean and smiling in a onesie (which is usually pretty freaking adorable) and posting a picture of your baby flipping the hell out because he or she is sitting in a diaper full of gunk along with a picture of the aforementioned diaper full of gunk (which is usually pretty freaking disturbing) and that difference is what STFU is addressing. People don't get on there for one picture of their kids. They get on there for pictures of their kids crowning. Google "Vadgesty Foxi Maiden" if you don't believe me, and don't say I didn't warn you.

It's like the free speech argument that gets tossed around. One person's right to act a fool doesn't preclude another person's right to call them out on it.

I'm certainly not defending those who constantly facebook. Social media in all its forms is intrusive in one way or another. We've opened a Pandora's Box. The difference now is, total strangers, people thousands of miles away can jump on the bandwagon and it's considered entertainment and there will always those who will make a buck from it. It's our culture under a microscope.

Now I have progressed to thinking that TFMJG is really boring by herself. Exactly, free speech to post whatever you want. Free speech, however, to criticize whatever you want. And if your criticism is too much or over the top, there is a nice checks and balances system in place where other people can chime in about what YOU said.

I think there is no denying some of it is done to make money. I also think money tends to flow when you are passionate and work hard, even if you never specifically set out to make money. However I think there are many people out there who legitimately don't like our new social media culture and are calling people out who abuse it, and I don't think it has anything to do with trying to make money. I don't think any of the posters here are making money to criticize the Gosselin mess. I think they legitimately and passionately feel that what happened to them is wrong and would like to comment on that. I think that's the same for those criticizing other parents on social media.

When scrolling through some of the debate about STFU, I found this comment telling. A mother posted on FB that she posts a lot about her kids because that's her life right now and if you don't like it too bad. Then another person on her FB commented that "That's what good moms do."

That is how far we have come. That we've been conditioned to believe that if you are not constantly posting (and exploiting) your kids on social media, you're not a good mom. That's insane.

This is not just a cute photo or two of the baby in Easter bunny ears. It's gone way beyond that, and people recognize that it has gone way beyond that, and people are finally saying enough is enough. It really has real parallels to the Gosselin situation, because with them, it wasn't about one episode in the pumpkin patch and everyone is outraged. Not at all. People were very reasonable and open to them. It was about how they want too far--way, way too far.

I know nothing about the blog to which you are referring, so I can't comment on that. I do know, however, that I would never post a picture of my children anywhere on the internet, with or without stuffed-to-the brim Easter baskets, not on FB, or what have you. I don't even have FB or Twitter, but if I did, I wouldn't do it. It appears to be humble bragging. Why take the chance to let anyone call you out on it, not to mention the privacy factor when it comes to our children?

That said, I do agree with you that sometimes the nitpicking really goes too far. The comment that the boys got wire baskets while the girls got larger lined baskets is one such example. Perhaps they've used those baskets before and actually like them. The girls' baskets were pink ("girly" baskets), while the boys appeared to be wires, perhaps replicating some kind of sports equipment. But to go that far as to make a judgment about the type of baskets she used is just over the top in the criticism. The Twitter picking right now is out of control. Kate does so much to be called out on, but my gosh, those haters on there pick apart everything she says and does, right down to the length of her fingernails. Kate's a piece of work, but the scrutinizing that goes on there sometimes makes you just shake your head.

Regarding Easter baskets...I put small toys as well as some candy in the baskets. I don't lavish gifts on my kids throughout the years, as some parents do when they take their children to the toy store and let them come home with bags of toys. We give gifts on Christmas and their birthdays, and a few on Easter -- that's it! Nothing in between time, no Valentine's Day gifting, no Fourth of July, no gifts for every holiday, no coming home from the toy store with a bag of items "just because." Did I spend $100 on Easter gifts for each of them? No way...but looking at Kate's baskets, I doubt that she did either. Each got a "larger" item, a Barbie, Princess, some Legos, and maybe I didn't see everything that was in their baskets, but it did not appear to be a lavish assortment to match Christmas presents.

The thing with Kate, though, is that she thinks the way to their hearts is through materialism...having the best, giving them things that she most likely never had as a child because now she can. I think that the reason she does this is so that they take her side -- she can afford to give them these things and Jon can't, and therefore, she's the better parent. She needs validation that she's a great Mom. They'll see through this in time.

My cousin has a 12 month old who is cute as a button, and her photos are always appropriate of him and never excessive. However when she posts video of him reaching all the little milestones, she makes sure to put a warning in the description "For the grandparents." Both sets of grandparents live out of state.

That way if you don't feel like watching him eat three spoonfuls of mashed peas and then sneeze, you've been warned. I personally could watch this kid do ANYTHING he's so cute, but I'm well aware that's not everyone's cup of tea and that some people, childless or not, find it obnoxious.

I've always thought that was very insightful and considerate of her, and she's a very young mom too. Instead of here it is in your face watch my baby do mundane things, she says here it is but be forewarned this is really only something grandparents want to see. And I think that's where some of the STFU parents have fallen short is that they seem completely and utterly unaware that many people, most even, don't care. And that's a weakness of Kate's too, is that she grossly overestimated who the interest would be in her average children. It was so-so before, but it's even less so now with every year that passes. If people aren't interested in watching paint dry on FB when it's their own friends, they sure as heck aren't going to be interested in HER kids.

That probably contributed to the problem, because her 6 sheeple kept telling her how great the kids are. That's not the same as millions of average American viewers being willing to tune in to see them. 6 sheeple is not enough to sustain a television show.

I think there are a lot of people who are on Facebook/other social media because they feel like they "have to be" and therefore feel trapped. Or because someone talked them into getting on and now they don't want to leave because they might hurt that someone's feelings.

I left FB about two years after I had an pulmonary embolism because it wasn't contributing to my emotional recovery. I don't miss it. To me it was like high school all over again. It was important for me to reclaim my privacy, and guess how many people noticed I was gone?

ONE.

I'm aware that there's a list of You Don't Have To's when it comes to using FB, and I get bombarded with instructions on how to use it better/more privately, but no one can ever answer me when I ask them "And how does it serve me to be on there?"

We have the right to NOT be on social media too. You'd be surprised how many people say "I wish I could do that" when I tell them I left Facebook. If it works for you, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

We are not obligated to share our lives. The confluence of reality tv and social media has given rise to a society with incredibly fragile personal boundaries. The Gosselin situation is a perfect example of how people are damaged when those boundaries are shattered.

I'm laughing out loud on this one! No, Carlene, imitation is not always the sincerest form of flattery. It is often a form of mocking, as seen with many comedians who do it. In Milo's case, it's not because the person is enamored and jealous of Milo. It's used to show just how utterly ridiculous her fascination is with Kate, and to what lengths she will go to praise her idol. It does, though, show Milo's impact on the haters. It shows that she is the laughingstock of Kate's Twitter and that she is in the last stages of Celebrity Worship, a joke on Kate's TL...it is not flattery toward Milo or that she is held in high esteem among anyone other than a few very dumb sheeple.

----------------

Right. Adulation keeps her going and going and going. I think that one of the reasons she keeps putting all of those pictures out there is because she hopes that some tabloid will pick them up, therefore keeping her relevant. The sheeple, bless their hearts, think that she's doing it for them because they support her, love her, want to see her children grow up, ad nauseam. She couldn't care less about making them happy, as evidenced by the lack of tweeting while she was filming CA. Even a bone here and there would have placated them, but there was nothing. Now she's in need of that "what a great Mommy fix."

I did have to smile over the tweet from a young fan who said something like Kate's kids are the cutest she's ever seen. I thought to myself -- gosh, you sure don't get out much!

The kids are cute, but so are millions of other kids. There's no doubt, though, that the girls are going to be attractive as they get older. They're pretty, with very nice features. Aaden is still adorable, as he was when he was a toddler. The thing is that the sheeple think that this is all Kate's doing. Immaculate Conception. Jon had no part in contributing to the genetics of these children, even though all of them look like him and nothing like her. Don't the sheeple see Jon when they look at photos of the kids, or are they convinced that all of them are spittin' images of the gorgeous and de-aging Kate?

Thank you for your concern about how we posters might appear to others. This may seem OT but your comment reminded me of a 12-year old girl who recently responded to Phyllis Shafly's comments against equal pay for women, on the 1950's theory that it would make them less likely to find a husband. Her entire remarks are worth reading, but one quote is as follows:

"When I’m thinking about what kind of career I want to have, it’s a lot like shopping for a bra. I want to find something that fits me and appeals to me, and I’m not thinking about pleasing a man. Anyone who wants to be my partner in life is going to have to truly respect me, appreciate me for who I am, and honor the choices I make."

I'm not comparing this friendly blog to a fight for equal rights for women. I will say, however, that when I post here, I am not thinking about pleasing those who are interested in comparing and contrasting sheeple to posters at this site, weighing their value or level of "craziness" or whatever other measurements they seek to apply. I post what I see fit, in a manner I see fit, and of course, within the guidelines of the blog owner. Anyone is welcome to view my remarks in any fashion they choose -- but their judgment is not relevant to the opinions I share here.

My general response when someone comes here warning posters that they should modify their opinions or be "nicer" in what they say, is to ignore it. Admin and her assistants will edit or refuse to publish any posts they believe are in violation of the blog's rules and that's good enough for me.

I have friends who are Jewish and they celebrate Easter as a Rite of Spring, not as a religious holiday. I don't have a Twitter account and don't follow Twitter posts on anyone's timeline, including Kate's. However, I'm sure you are correct. Can a person make their Twitter feed private and only allow posts by approved friends? If yes, that's what Kate ought to do. If not, then a normal person might find the Twitter world too unpleasant and unsavory and delete their Twitter account.

TFW doesn't seem willing to do anything to alleviate the situation. Her twitter feed sounds like a cesspool. TFW has the ability to control the situation by shutting down her Twitter, like Jon did. Don't blame the sharks for circling when a person refuses to get out of shark-infested waters.

We live in a world where anonymous people can say hurtful things about us on the internet. That's the current reality. In fact, I suppose anyone who read here and decided they didn't like "Millicent," could post about "Millicent" anywhere they so choose and say all sorts of distasteful things about "Millicent." But it would not bother me as I chose to be an anonymous name here on this blog, to limit the information I share about myself, and otherwise protect my real identity. I have a FB account and only those who are friends with me can see my posts and my photos. Even then, I don't share a lot of photos of my son, at his request. I try to be a wise user of the internet - using it to my advantage while trying to make choices that will protect my privacy to a certain degree.

If Kate Gosselin doesn't choose to be a wise or careful internet user, it's her fault when things go south. By putting her children on a tv show, by promoting them like a circus act, by making them and herself public figures, she has brought herself fame and a lot of money. Unfortunately, she has also brought on a certain level of over-the-top anti-fans, and she continues to provide those people with a forum in which to vent their spleen. She could end that by closing down her Twitter account.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

So if it's here to stay, why bother criticizing? I think social media is very new. As we become more educated about it, the hope is we will get better at it. I think all this over sharing is happening because people are excited at everything they can share and all the different ways to do it. Like a kid in a candy store. Once that feeling is over society will hopefully become more rational.

If everyone told that mom we don't like when you post such photos because they are inappropriate or a violation of your child's privacy maybe that mom may just stop or at least think twice next time. Say nothing, and how will anyone ever have a barometer to know what's up or down?

I have an opposite prediction. I predict the current generation of kids who had every poo of theirs blasted around the interwebs may just grow up to become a generation that values privacy more than any other. I think America is fickle and there will be some other thing we don't even know yet that will be the next big thing. Look at how children of celebrity or the royals feel. Eventually the attention got old. Eventually they wanted to be private. Eventually social media will get old too.

I don't think that the fans are saying that the kids are cute toddlers. I would certainly hope that they know better, even though Kate tries to keep them young. It depends on how one defines "cute." If it's meant as being charming or attractive, or pleasing, then yes, nine-year-olds can be cute, not only in looks, but also in some of the things that they do. You've heard some young gals, such as cheerleaders, being referred to as "cute," and it doesn't mean that they are still adorable little toddlers,

I've been busy with Holy Week services and choir practices and am just getting caught up on the posts here. So -- forgive me if I touch on several areas of discussion.

I agree that no one is "too old" for an Easter basket. My mother always fixed one for my father and he always fixed one for her. We all got some of our favorite candies and one or two little gifts. I usually got a new book (always the way to win my heart LOL) and that was about it. BTW -- Easter baskets ALWAYS came after church. No church, no Easter basket, unless someone was too sick to go out.

I'm glad to hear that TFMJG honored the twins' request not to post their photos. Whether this was because they're fed up with being exploited, embarrassed and don't want to be flaunted about in public, or not actually there at the time, at least their wishes were respected for once.

So TFMJG is most likely fired. Color me surprised, NOT. What actually surprises me is that she lasted as long as she did. It'll be interesting to see if she remains on twitter silence now. I'm really looking forward to reading Admin's recaps when the show starts to air.

Interesting about FB. While I'm sure there are people who are over the top, as there is in everything we do, I haven't really seen that for myself.

I use FB as a way to keep in touch with people who are of interest to me. Kind of like in the old days when Mom would say, "Oh, did you know that your cousin Kathy is pregnant?" Which I hadn't heard yet, but now I did, and then I'd call Kathy and chat about the wonderful news and agree on a day for the baby shower. Or maybe Mom would mention that an Uncle had been diagnosed with whatever, and did I want to be part of the food preparation and child care chain.

I *want* to share the ups and downs of people's lives. I love seeing their baby pictures on FB, which I wouldn't otherwise see. I love having them "like" the pictures of my grandchildren dyeing Easter eggs with me.

I like knowing when there are difficulties so that I can step in and help out. Or connect them with another of my friends who might be in a better position to help than I can.

I guess the difference is that now I'm hearing directly from the source instead of from my mom. :-)

I think social media fills the bill for lonely people. When I was a SAHM I posted a lot of facebook because then I might get comments from friends around the world. It connected me.

I may have even been one of those who posted too much and said almost everything I was doing. There were jokes out there about people like that, and I realized... yes who wants to have a minute by minute play of my life. I quit doing that.

Then quite a few of my family from another country got on FB and we started to share with each other. We hardly talk on phone, never actually, because of time zone differences. It is amazing how much I have come to know my family 1/2 way across the world due to social media. We post pictures of family events we can not attend.

This is how I think soial media works best.

Yes, I do post still on FB, but not as often as before. Maybe a new status about 1-2 a week.

You do have to be cautious tho... remember who is in your audience. When speaking face to face, you know exactly who you are speaking to and so may not share certain things, like the $100 easter baskets for each kid when this person may barely have $100 for groceries.

On FB, you may forget who your audience is ( you may not even know everyone in your audience , which is another head shaker to me) and that single mom who is piecing and patching and sees that pic of your kids easter haul, you may unintentionally be " in her face" about what you were able to do, and she was not.

I do not agree that good moms brag about their kids, face to face or on facebook. Share the good times and achievements, but do it too often and it bragging!

Hmm, I see an anonymous posted down to last 4 on CA.... things that make you go hmmmm.... wink wink..

I agree, Admin. When they all figure out how they have been supporting their own mother's lavish life-style their entire lives, look out Kate. You know the old saying that "you can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time." It has applied to the Gosselin saga from the beginning. When I woke up and smelled the coffee with them was a long time ago and it did not feel good to be duped. Most of the kids will wake up and experience far worse. They need our prayers.

I think if it's your own family and friends "turning you in" to STFU then you probably don't know your family and friends that well. More than likely it's excessive and over the top posts from people who insist on 400 plus friends that are getting turned in by people they have no business friending. That's really taking social media outside the realm of "a good place to keep in touch with family and close friends," which is a wonderful thing and has been for my family.

This article is exactly why I don't get Kate and Steve continuing their relationship publicly. I don't know or really care what the nature of it is, but between them they've got 10 kids who have to be hurt by these constant rumors.
Jeez, this article goes way past speculation and states the affair as fact.
It's very telling that Kate will sue Robert for the truth, but articles like this she fails to "set the record straight".

Local, I had assumed TFW was the PM for that task simply because of Ted Gibson's participation. He was her one and only "phone a friend" so there was absolutely no way she would have involved him unless she was the PM.

If they did win that bridal task, it wasn't because she was working her butt off. An ostrich could have stood outside in a wedding dress and had just as much (OK, probably more) impact on sales.

So based on tweets, Kate has been fired and is now home but the rest of the CA contestant got to go on an all-expense paid trip to Universal in Orlando? I bet she is seething....but I am LMBO. I would imagine that the CA contestants are staying on property so poor Kate is really missing out.

If Kate has been fired, does she go back to New York until filming ends, or does she stay at home

If they stick to the same format as previous seasons, the fired contestants go home but return for the finale boardroom. 2-4 return to help the 2 finalists on the last task.

Clearly it is very strange that a "Body Guard," was filmed as a participant in the final episodes. He was there to protect Kate and the kids, but clearly was a participant in final episodes. Oh MY GOD- Pizza with bare hands and many other aspects- TFW demanding he come talk to her in her camper after she screamed at him and demanded he come inside so it could not be filmed.

It almost felt like TLC was trying him out as the "husband" for the final episodes to see if it would fly.

Don't know their relationship, and really don't care, as long as it doesn't screw the kids up, but please tell me why (seriously) TFW needs a full time body guard in NY, while she leaves her 8, count 'em 8 kids with a babysitter unprotected when everyone knows she is not at home, while filming CA.

It is ALL about Kate and never has been about the kids. None of the other contestants on CA had Body Guard/Manager, Advisor, etc.. to "babysit" them, so why Kate? Sorry, but this woman has huge issues, and she always will come first. The kids are just accessories she needs to keep herself afloat. Vile at best.

I don't think Kate came home for Easter. Those baskets could have been made by the nanny. The pictures could have been taken by the nanny. The twins could have found it pretty easy to tell the nanny to get the camera out of their faces. With no pictures of the twins, Kate decided to make herself look good (surprise) and say she honored their request.

With most elimination reality shows, you aren't supposed to go home until the end so that no one knows who won and who lost. CA seems to have a little more fluid schedule where the celebs can jet off for an appearance or a birthday. Maybe they don't film at all on weekends. But if she goes home for a week or two then it's obvious she lost. And a paid vacation with Stevie? Priceless. Whether or not they sleep together, he obviously feeds her ego.

Also, remembering what the sheeple say, there's no proof she was home. I don't believe she went home. Only my opinion.

Admin -- You should read up on the case. I think you'll find it interesting. Briefly, Bode Miller had a relationship with a young woman -- an ex-Marine -- and she became pregnant. By the time she found out she was PG, he'd moved on to another woman, whom he subsequently married. While she was pregnant, she was admitted to Columbia Univ. and moved to NY to attend school there under the GI bill. He filed for custody of the child after it was born and a NY judge called her irresponsible and said it was reprehensible for her to "appropriate the child in utero" and awarded custody to Miller. They've finally reached an agreement to temporarily share custody and it's been kicked back to the CA courts. I just wondered what you thought of such a ruling since that's your field.

I have previously had doubts about Kate and Steve playing hide the wienie. But now I think they are. Here's the reason: if there was nothing going on, she would be going on talk shows saying, "I know what people have been saying about Steve and I. He actually did start out as a body guard because I had real fears about my safety. While I still have those fears, he has now assumed a new position of manager to me and that is the extent of our relationship". But she does not go this extra mile and expand on the relationship. She does not try to set the record straight. She has been asked about their relationship and her answer is phoney and not convincing. Instead, her answers are cunning and manipulative. Like others have said, how can she go this long without any action, especially now that her plastic surgery look is aimed at being a come hither Hollywood tart? Maybe she is an ice crotch, who knows, but given what we know about her promiscuity before she met Jon, she is a flirt and must be dying to share this new altered bod of hers with someone. Steve.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Yes.

I don't know what's going on, but the part of this I have a hard time reconciling is that the both of them, Kate and Steve, haven't shaken hands and parted ways in the name of protecting their families from malicious gossip and rumors. It's not a matter of standing up for some principle and not letting the press "bully" you. He's a bodyguard for heaven sake. They KNOW all he does is fuel rumors. If she were seen with a different bodyguard or a more fluid team of bodyguards I bet my bottom dollar the rumors would stop about her having an affair with her bodyguard. But she won't.

Family first. Friends are precious, but they are just friends, and never come before your own children or spouse. He is a relatively new friend to her, and it is hard to picture any friend being worth this sort of scrutiny to any normal person. Part of being in a friendship worth its salt is knowing when something you're doing may be causing harm to your friend and being willing to stop it even if your friend doesn't ask you to or might not even want you to.

If Kate doesn't want to do it, Steve should man up and do it. Let her know that for her own good, and for the good of their families, it's time to call it quits. It was a lovely run and they can surely see each other in private at each other's homes as frequently as possible, but the public appearances have got to stop. The last straw should have been when Radar started posting pics of his children.

The thing is though, Kate is not a normal person.

Another point to this, because I know some sheeple have compared this situation to Jon and his relationships and asked why we don't demand he end his relationships because it causes gossip. I am operating from a standpoint that Steve and Kate are not together, and therefore, they should stop being seen in public together because it's hurting their families. If they ARE together and in love and this is what they would like to do, then by all means the press shouldn't bully them out of their love. BUT, they should put a stop to it by making a clear announcement that they are together and would appreciate that their privacy be respected. It's not like the press much cares about Jon and Liz now that they're together. The press cared when he was DATING. Once you settle down, the press usually goes away unless you're really famous.

The hook of this story is "are they or aren't they." Once they actually admit okay we are, interest tends to die down.

Instead they've created this unhealthy purgatory that's not really good for anyone least of all their children. And yet a part of me thinks we have sick people on our hands who love all the attention and speculation this creates. That is indeed very sick especially when their children are the victims.

Kim said...

Steve is just not Kate's body guard the way she freaked out and gave him a slice of pizza over her own children. Why was he even filmed on the Kate plus 8 show? it was like he was part of her little family you can tell they have something going on behind the scenes.

TLC stinks said...

ITA, Jeanne. That exact thought occurred to me also. It's a bit of a stretch, but I just don't believe anything that comes out if her mouth. The nanny could have sent her the pictures and Kate tweeted them like she was home. Boy, I wish someone would speak up about her deceptions.

As far as Steve, ITA that she should flat out deny it and they should part company if there is no affair; otherwise admit to it and move on.

As far as that RV episode, what caught my eye was Kate removing Steve from the camera to call him inside the RV when she was bitching about something (I can't remember what it was about), but she wanted alone time with him rather than rant to him or at him in front of the camera, opposite of what she did to Jon. Showed, amazingly, respect. I cannot say that proves anything other than speculation Steve is someone she's not about to belittle or risk embarrassing publicly because he might walk away. I think those two are very, very close. I just don't think their relationship includes boundaries at this point. It may be one-sided but if that's the case, there is simply no excuse for Steve continuing to be a part of her or the kids' lives. Then again, he could be a serial cheater and Gina knows he always comes home. We don't know anything except Steve and Kate's relationship is not normal, she's a liar, and he is ambitious. Whatever their relationship, it has crossed the line from employer and employee.

TJ said...

The RV pizza fiasco was when I came to see that there was more to their relationship. Of course I can't know what it is but it's more than professional bodyguard and client. When she was almost crying at the fact that he didn't support her at one point I knew she had feelings for him that were more intimate. Also the fact that she would humiliate one of her kids or her friend over a piece of pizza.

Does anyone remember reading this back from DWTS days?

That was obvious at a Hollywood party celebrating the upcoming tenth season DWTS at STK LA restaurant on March 1. Kate,34 turned on the charm and shamelessly flirted with a fellow contestant, former All My Children star Aiden Turner. She looked like she was having the time of her life. He was making her laugh, and she was eating up the attention.

Aiden 32, who's married and has a baby daugther eventually called it a night. But Kate wasn't quite ready to do the same. She told him she'd leave too. But when she followed him out of the restaurant, she did her best to keeo their discussion going as long as she could Kate seemed to be hanging on his every word!

So Many Men, So Little Time

Before setting her sights on Aiden that evening her attention was on her bodyguard Steve Neild, Whom she was romantically linked to last year. When she walked into the party, he was by her side. After mingling with the other guests. Kate and Steve move to a cozt booth for some one on one time. As they engaged in conversation over wine. Kate kept playing her hair and smiling. She was really enjoying Steve's company and at the same time, her body language made it seem as if she wanted other guys to check her out and know she was available.

Great post.
I don't get how on earth anyone can compare Jon's serial dating to the rumors of Kate laying down with a married man for YEARS now.
Kate wants the world to believe that her twins were negatively affected by Jon's string of gf's.
OK, I can buy that.
By the same token, please don't sit there and tell me that ALL of the children involved, between these 2 families, have not been negatively affected by the constant rumors about Kate and Steve.
It goes both ways, and I think if Kate isn't in love with Steve, she's got a choice. They both do.
They have chosen to spend an incredible amount of time together, in public, despite rumors, fueling rumors, and not denying rumors.
Far, far worse than Jon being in a long-term monogamous relationship, not including the break up.

Nor is anyone asking them to never search other again! See Steve in private. No one is ever going to know if he comes to your house or you go to his. My point exactly. 15 and 12, exactly the age where "easter egg rolls" and cute fuzzy bunnies and their parents reading story books, would be mortifying. The children I nannied for went to the Easter egg roll at the White House. When they were TODDLERS. They don't remember it and never indicated a desire to go back for it once they got older.

Like it or not, many Easter activities are very babyish. Once you get past the age where "this is so embarrassing because toddlers are here," Easter becomes fun again. I don't think other holidays have that same sort of feel. I never remember Christmas feeling babyish, but that's probably because it tends to have more adult activities like choir and baking. By virtue of making everything baby blue and pink, you've already set the tone for a "kiddie" holiday, lol!

I'm not at all surprised the girls said eh, thanks we'll go to school. Just like I'm not at all surprised the Gosselin twins asked Kate not to include them in her gushing over Easter.

Yes, no boundaries. She doesn't have the normal "stop sign" alert that normal people have. In ANYTHING.

When I was single and was introduced to someone who had a girlfriend, even if I thought they were nice, the flirting stopped. Period. They may end up being a nice friend but it was off the table anything else. The bottom line is if he would leave her for me, why wouldn't he leave ME for the next better thing? I don't like that idea, so I did not participate in that idea.

It's an unwritten rule that you don't mess around with another woman's man. I did not hang around other women who would mess around with another woman's man. I did not normally see this behavior occurring. I do not consider it normal or socially acceptable behavior except in the movies.

She was reveling in it. She had won! That's all that was important. It was a competition and she won! She and Jon were both sneering about it. Smirking and grinning about it. TFW especially.

She may not have know before she met him, but she knew by that night. See below.

Much the same way they were both laughing about how the little boys wouldn't remember the next morning that they'd been denied their birthday cupcakes the day before. I was horrified at their attitude about it. Both of them chortling about how funny it was.

====

Sometimes not even in the movies. We watched one the other day where a married character was thinking about having an affair with a woman and his buddy warned him not to - that the fidelity bank and trust is a tough creditor. You make a deposit somewhere else, they close your account forever.

As to Kate's premarital reputation, I haven't got access to Robert's book at the moment, but IIRC he said she did a lot of bed hopping before she put the cuffs on Jon. Whether that is true or not, I don't know.

I really think that she does need someone with her at all times when she travels. She appears to be very unstable and insecure. I try to put myself in that situation. If I were a single female traveling alone, I think I'd want someone with me. I can't imagine being the lone person out, when everyone around me has someone there, be it a spouse, significant other, a friend. I wouldn't want to have dinner by myself, or go to events/activities alone. Let's face it -- Kate really doesn't have all that many friends or people who would gravitate toward her. I'd want someone there with me so I'm not the odd person in the bunch. Then again, she may have some sort of thing going on where she is incapable of managing on her own, perhaps some kind of inability to function in a crowd or group setting.

That said, it shouldn't be a married man. Out of respect for her own children, his wife and his children, if it raises eyebrows and fuels rumors, this "relationship" should have ended a long time ago. Hire a female companion who can do the job of escorting her around, protecting the fans and non-fans from her, or whatever is needed.

Then again, maybe this whole thing is a big FU to those who speculate. She knows what's going on; he knows what's going on; Gina may or may not know, but Kate is just not going to say because she feels that it's nobody's business except those involved. She may actually like these rumors...it keeps her out there, and she's just keeping the guessing game going, knowing that SHE knows something that nobody else knows for sure. We've seen her teasing on Twitter. This could just be another one of her "I know something you don't know and you'll never know" jabs. It makes her feel important -- like she has one up on everyone who speculates.

"gone the next day." As I interpreted it, she was proud to be someone who went after what she wanted, not that the 2 of them hit it off like
gangbusters, or that it was love at first sight.

))))))))))))))

Given Kate's penchant for exaggeration, we don't really know if it was actually the "next day." It could have been sometime after that, perhaps a month or more until she put those cuffs on him.

Ooooh, that would have put Kate way behind in her master plan.

I didn't realize they only dated for 6 months. At that age, it was a really capricious thing to do on both of their parts.
Sometimes a couple is immature, like both Jon and Kate, and grow apart. It happens.
To hate the other person because you've grown apart is nuts, and shows no insight into what your role is in the situation.
Kate wants to play the victim and bemoan about how Jon changed.
Of course he did, and so did she.

You are wrong on the dates. They met at the picnic on Oct. 5, 1997 and married June 12, 1999 in a friend's backyard. The twins were born Oct. 8, 2000, That's what was quick and that was the master plan. She started the fertility treatments pretty fast. And she did not use the same doctor the second time. Excerpt from Multiple Blessings:

"Finally, he agreed to go through it all again—just one more time for three more cycles, a total time commitment of six months. I screeched, dove for the phone, and made an appointment with an infertility specialist right in Wyomissing, just minutes from our home. With my first pregnancy, I had driven an hour away to Allentown, Pennsylvania. Although I obviously had success with that doctor, I felt the convenience of seeing a respected doctor in our own town made much sense, especially with two busy two-year-olds at home."

Celebrity Apprentice filming at Universal Orlando

"The 14th season of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice doesn’t debut until late this year, but some guests at Universal Orlando this week got a surprise in-person sneak preview of the hit NBC show. Production crews were seen inside Universal’s theme parks, filming contestants participating in the “reality competition.'"

Love this quote since it has been noted that TFW is turned herself into another Barbie and is hard to tell apart:

The fourth person with them has been variously identified either Brandi Glanville or Kate Gosselin; I don’t know my reality stars well enough to say for sure, so leave your guess in the comments below.

When I found that post about Kate's behavior at that DWTS event, my first thought she was flirting make Steve jealous. Then it was just obvious she has no regard as to whether a man is married or not. Her ex-fiancé said she cheated on him. She flirted with Jon at that picnic and stole him from his girlfriend. There's a pattern. No boundaries.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remember, she was pregnant in the beginning, then moved in with her fiancé`s boyfriend's family home, so she could go to nursing school, cheated on him, saw Jon at the picnic, stole him away from his girlfriend.
Sounds like a teenage soap opera.
About 30 years ago, my dad was dating a woman who eventually moved in with him while she went to nursing school. Didn't help any, didn't lift a finger to help while she was there. She used my dad. Free rent and board for over 2 years. And of course she broke up with him when she graduated.
You gotta love this. From http://www.soulcysters.net/showthread.php/285202-Kate-Gosselin-Fertility-Meds
I live about 15 mins from the famed Gosselin family and even go to the same OB/GYN as Kate, however, I just read that she had PCOS. Not sure how I missed this bit of information, but needless to say, I was shocked!!! Does anyone know, or heard any rumors, of what meds she used to conceive??? She seems to be on the au naturale train and I was just curious. I've seen her a bunch of times at Target, although I don't know that she'd appreciate me coming up to her and saying "hey Kate, what did you use to conceive" lol
Several responses later:
Thanks for all of the responses...at my last OB/GYN appt I mentioned her name and he just laughed...HIPA prevented him from saying anything...but he and I know both knew who we were talking about...
Looking at Kate now, I really don't see any "typical" PCOS signs...I would love to talk to her and find out what she's doing...but then again, she's not all that nice.
More from the forum:
Funny story: I just read this the other day and then today when I went to my RE SHE brought up j+k+8. We were talking about moving on to injectables and she started telling me what happened with Kate (I didn't even have to ask) She said often times women with PCOS have poor results with meds and then BOOM one day all the sudden the cycles start working. She said Kate was taking injectables with a planned IUI. When more follicles were present than appropriately indicated for her age, she was told not to trigger or have intercourse, but she went against Dr's orders. My Dr. said this was discussed at a conference and she (jokingly) does not want to be the topic of discussion at the next one.
But wait, there's more:
Hey Everyone,
I'm a bit late in this conversation-- but I'm a TV Producer and I actually interviewed Kate prior to their split up (in October 2008) and did a story on her. She did in fact do injections and IUI-- she didn't do IVF. I made that mistake of saying IVF when I interviewed her and she corrected me and said it was IUI.
I also did ask her about the PCOS. I only got one soundbite from her where she mentioned PCOS and that was after I asked her why she had trouble conceiving... and in response she said "I have a condition called PCOS where I don't ovulate." After the interview was over, I told her that I have PCOS and asked her a bit more about PCOS and she said she doesn't have the full blown PCOS that many women have. Her doctor only diagnosed her because she doesn't ovulate-- she doesn't have any other severe symptoms. Because she doesn't ovulate she said her doctor told her it was one of the "easier" fertility issues to treat but of course there isn't a "cure." She went on to say that he only said it was easier to cure becasue she doesn't have the full blown PCOS-- just that she doesn't ovulate.
Hope this helps!
April 22, 2014 at 11:07 AM ++++++++ I agree I would want to back up all these claims with documentation. So she took fertility drugs does not mean she knew she was going to have 6 kids. Once you take those fertility drugs its out of your hands how many baby's get implanted at once.
Remember when Kate freaked out in the airport when Jon did not 'lead' the way to the gate? She seemed terrified yet angry. and then the time when she needed a police officer to drive her to a radio gig down the road? Or saying she can't drive hither, thither and yon? Or gas her own car? I think she's dependent on men in various ways and some have changed over the years. The sleeping around maybe was a way to ensure someone could 'help' her negotiate life? Now she uses Steve when she can, or helpers, or even the children to get her through life.
Another interesting case in the news, that I am frankly very skeptical of at this point. My news sources are limited to online Los Angeles Times, Hollywood Reporter, and TMZ which does get their hands on actual court docs that are public record. summary: Michael Egan had filled suit in Hawaii (that does not have statute of limitations re child abuse) against a total of for high profile entertainment figures including Bryan Singer who directs the X-Men movies, Garth Ancier who has been a TV executive for Fox and NBC , David Neuman who has been an executive at Disney TV, and Gary Goddard who has a company that designs theme park shows. The attorney Jeff Hermann is based in Florida. The plaintiff lives in Nevada. The cases, which are civil cases for damages, are being filed in Hawaii. the events the people are being accused of took place fourteen or fifteen years ago.
Marty Singer of Laverne and Shirley is representing Bryan Singer. Marty Singer says in an article in the Wrap, that his client had not been served with the suit as of today. the attorney and accuser have had time for two press conferences, but have missed serving the actual suit to the accused. makes you wonder why.
Egan and his mother filled suit against three individuals fourteen years ago and did win a judgment. None of these men currently accused were named or charged with anything at that time. That makes you wonder why. The FBI investigated in 2003 and criminal charges resulted, once again none of these four men were named.
TMZ has the FBI document, sorry I don't know how to make clickable link.
TMZ.com.llnwd.net/o28/newsreel/TMZ_documents/Michael-Egan-affidavit-01.pdf
Some horrible things happened to this young man. Some horrible people were charged with crimes. Now in 2014 Why are the accusations against these four men coming over ten years later, and in a news conference, and civil cases not criminal?
I am interested in seeing what happens with these civil cases.
Wouldn't HIPAA prevent anyone, including the office staff, from discussing where Kate goes to the doctor? Moreover, when she conceived the six, she was living in a different area than she does now. Isn't it possible the the physician she used then isn't the one she sees now?
True, but not everyone is the same. Not everyone is a free spirit, an independent woman who can do everything alone. I really don't think that Kate is a person who can manage by herself. She's not a Kan-do Kate. She takes to Twitter to find out where to buy a generator, how to unclog a dryer vent. where to buy this or that...simple things that most single women can do because they have to do it. In a word, she's inept.
I think she needs the companionship of someone on these trips, if for nothing else than to make travel arrangements, tell her what to do if she misses a plane or it's delayed, take care of lodging, and just sees to it that all goes well. I don't think that Kate can make friends that easily. Remember that she doesn't "see" people; she's totally unaware of her surroundings and has no self-awareness.
Robert did not say it. Robert reported in his book that members of Kate's immediate family said this to him directly.
I want to be clear here about the difference, and there is one.
Robert is alleging nothing about a prior pregnancy, he objectively reported what was told to him, by some of the only people who could possibly know, besides Kate.
It still doesn't make it fact, granted.
Same applies to any prior medical diagnosis, physical or mental, reported by family sources (who were never named).
It's far more likely, in REAL life, to become independent as you mature and are an adult, in an adult world.
This is not a choice, for many.
I had to travel for work.
There was no limo. No guide through the airport. No one to carry my bags. No one to park my car in the remote lot. No one to tell me what bus to take to which terminal. No one to tell me where to go to catch transportation.
And on and on and on.
Very, very few people can afford, or are given, a companion to hold their hand.
Most of us have no choice but to suck it up, buttercup!
Most of us find the resources from within and around us to cope with our challenges.
Most of us could be far better leaders and role models, in any given environment, than Kate.
The question of whether the kids look Asian has come up before. I believe that generally we "see" the "other" in mixed-race kids. That is, causasians see the Gosselin kids as Asian, while Asians would see them as caucasian.
IRL, I know a Japanese/caucasian/Down syndrome child. When his mother rook him to Japan, Japanese people asked, without seeing his father, if the father was caucasian. On the other hand, caucasians tend to see him as looking Japanese.
I think with Kate, she's gone from home, to living with her boyfriend's family, then on to Jon.
Of course, while married to Jon, their fame exploded and she had a team of people helping her that went far beyond the grass roots efforts of family and volunteers,
Kate has PR people managing virtually all interviews, on the phone and in person, a manager, the might of TLC, Steve, other body guards, the camera crew, production assistants.
This list doesn't even include her domestic help, inside and out!
Kate never had to reach deep within and do everything herself. She's finagled some awesome shit, like a free 6-figure kitchen that came along with a paycheck for a couple episodes shot at a luxury shore rental in a luxury beach community.
I really don't think Kate knows what reality means to most people.
I also have a feeling there's something else going on in her development such that this is the only way she can manage to negotiate her way through life, because she never has had what it takes to reach that sort of "self-acutalization" level.
I'm this day and age it would be pretty sad to see a woman utterly helpless to do something simple like go a short business trip on their own. At some point many jobs will require that of them. If we're raising young women to be that dependent on others we aren't doing them any favors. Like others, that is one thing that quite bothered me about Kate and her sheeple. I did not find her to be very much of a role model for anyone who wanted to be a modern, strong and independent woman. There is nothing remotely difficult about what little down time the CA contestants have. Don't they stay right there in trump towers? You can order room service and take care of everything else right at the hotel. You may want an assistant or manager but if anyone actually "needs" one, that's just sad.
No, but as people grow up into adulthood, they learn how to be adults. At least, most people do. No one can do everything, but most people can cope with everyday life and its demands.
Kate seems incapable of even the most basic of life's demands. She couldn't get up early with her babies; she couldn't play with them and simply enjoy their childhood; she couldn't treat her husband with decency; she couldn't treat her family's generosity with grace and thankfulness; she couldn't handle a little drizzle in the Alaskan countryside; she couldn't handle a flight that lasted longer than expected; she couldn't handle a trip to the toy store; she couldn't handle it when one son got some gum on his lovey; she couldn't handle it when another son got sick; she apparently can't travel by herself. Seriously, what can this woman do on her own? Very, very little - she can drive herself very fast around town; she can get a tan; get a manicure, tweet, and dress like a tramp. That's about it.
Every other mother I know can run circles around Kate, even the ones who often feel they have trouble facing difficulties. The difference is - they know they must face tough situations and so they just roll up their sleeves and do their best. Kate rolls into a ball of uselessness and makes her kids feel like they need to protect her. Ugh.
I've been alone in airports since I was a teenager. You read the monitors. You know your airline. Unless you have a serious learning disability there is no excuse for a "can do" woman to need a companion to show her the way. That is weak, needy and pathetic. Will she be teaching her daughters to be helpless damsels-in-distress or independent women who can take care of themselves?
Watching Kate get fired will be epic. I can't wait.
