But we never called anyone "Mr. Chocolate".
Could this whole fiasco be just Kate being Kate and doing what she always does? Perhaps, in her mind, there was nothing racist about it...she was being immature (nothing new there) and just did it.

This is my first time posting, but I've been with this blog since its diaper days (many years back). Before I go on with my comment, I'd like to say that English is not my native language, so please excuse grammar and spelling.
For me (my personal opinion) this is a very, very convenient (and brilliant) publicity stunt. Post a photo (by someone anon), (with a matching pair, from a computer lost, but somehow she retained copies of pics there... hmm) and let it ride the wave for a couple of days. Then post an explanation on her website where she is selling her book. Nice way to keep yourself in the news, cast doubt on someone who is hurting you (Hoffman, Jon), and still come out smelling like roses.
I had a computer tech friend who's wife was a very famous singer in my country. Media was linking her to a young new singer, and gossip was spreading like fire about a relationship between those two. I told my friend how sorry I felt that he had to tolerate all that crap. Smiling he answered: "No, this was all planned to help them sell a record they are making together." Turns out the young singer was gay and thought he needed the "desirable" factor to sell (he had an awesome voice and still does). I learned my lesson. Publicity means to gain exposure, truth has nothing to do with it.
As Sheri (178) mentioned, Hoffman doesn't hide, he owns it. Why start now?

Don't really want to start any conspiracy theories here, but does anyone think that Kate(or someone close to her, i.e. McGibney)actually planted that picture to stir up controversy, so that she could later address it and come out smelling like a rose?
The original article was written by David Perel-with no verification of where it came from and in what context it was taken. Why would he run with a story based on just one tweet? And why was that tweet sent specifically to him, and only him? Why wouldn't it be written by the Radar staff? Then he's also the one that writes the story about Kate's explanation, with the full content of her blog post. I'm assuming Kate gave him permission to do so.
It smells of something BV would set up to imply that it was Robert who posted the picture, and to give Kate a chance to speak about the "stolen" computer disks. Especially, since both articles mention what Robert said about the picture in his book.
McGibney has been feeding Perel all the stories about the lawsuit, etc. What better way to show how "wronged" Kate has been than to set up this story?

I don't know. I guess I'm just not getting this whole explanation thing. Why not just say that the photos were taken with her phone when she received gifts from a fan after an Asian episode aired, and the two of them were just having fun...and then apologize if it offended anyone. Less is more. There's no need to go the whole "It does not make any of us prejudice" (sic) routine, or bring up the alleged stolen files.
So the photo was real, but the journals were altered...even though it came from the same computer files? She's just opening herself up to more questions/controversy. Why stick your foot in your mouth?

Here's the thing, Kate. If that information was so private, so personal and so important, it was then incumbent upon YOU to protect it. While you had every right to ask Jon to move out of the apartment over the garage, since you did win sole possession of the house in the divorce, you probably shouldn't have thrown an adult tantrum and called the police while he was doing it. The police have a report which contains your statement that anything Jon left behind would be put out for the trash. The report also states you knew Robert was a reporter. At some point in your "rise to fame" you seem to have lost your obligation to due diligence and you acted in a careless manner. Almost as if you think confidentiality agreements, teams of high powered lawyers and millions of dollars will excuse you from your own poor behavior.
If this was a case of your backup computer discs having been stolen from a safe, I'd have a spot of sympathy. That would show that you did your best to secure the information. But that isn't the case. You put the remainder of Jon's belongings out for the trash, trash which contained the backup discs containing the "personal, private, important" info you speak of. Perhaps you didn't know the discs existed. If you would have combed through all the belongings BEFORE throwing them on the curb, that would have solved that issue. You acted in an arrogant and impulsive manner, now you are trying to use oppressive litigation to silence and ruin those who simply took items from your trash.
Also, how convenient that these 2 tweets showed up within minutes of each other, and said almost the exact same thing and BOTH included links to her website. Kate retweeted these, rather than make her own tweet about it.

I may be nitpicking Kate's post about the picture a bit. I caught the part where she says pictures were taken on her phone. What phone? Did she have a blackberry before getting the Iphone? I cannot think of a phone that would take pictures that clear and flawless. The Iphone didn't come out until 2007. If I did the math correctly, the picture was taken when the tups were toddlers. I don't think they weren't in preschool yet. People are putting that timeline to Summer 2007 but I think it could be earlier, maybe Summer of 2006. The Iphone came out June 2007.

For all we know, Jon is the one who produced the additional picture so she wouldn't look like an idiot in front of her children. Just meaning, who knows the real story. I'm sure she's loving the short-lived mild attention, but I think it's added a bit of another black mark on her unpopular public personality regardless of any explanation she might give.

Actually, I'm really starting to think this may be the case. In part for publicity and in part for deflection.
It could be that the impending lawsuits are actually going nowhere and the only place things will be judged is in the court of public opinion.
Like I said in a previous post, Robert Hoffman has little to gain by doing anything anonymously at this stage of the game. If it came out that he did, I'm sure he's aware he would lose a great deal of credibility. And in reality, his credibility is a huge factor in this...I just don't think he'd risk it.
Perhaps that's what many of us couldn't put our finger on about this whole thing? I don't know, but I'm starting to feel like we got played.
If Jon spoke out they would rag on him for doing so and if he doesn't they would rag on him.

The info Robert used to write the book was from computer discs which backed up the family computer. It's completely plausible that Kate still has this fully intact computer in her possession. As he wrote in his blog post after the alleged texts between Jon and Hailey were released by ROL, the notion that he had the hard drive or the actual computer was something that incorrectly evolved on the blogs. He explained that he had discs and he didn't obtain them until April of 2010, not a hard drive supposedly obtained in October of 2009 like the "texts" claim.
Kate is a twit- you are absolutely correct that Kate rarely addresses any negativity as a result of her words or actions. She doesn't think she does anything wrong, so she ignores any talk which implies her actions were less than perfect or awesome. That's why this thing seems odd and reeks of setup, with Kate jumping to explain how she is yet again a victim, (but conveniently not apologizing) just one day after the picture came out. Oh and BTW- buy my book! Which, IMO, is in danger of not being printed if pre sales do not pick up. Kate and Jon went to Key West for Jon's birthday in April 2007 (aired May 14). Kate still has the tan lines she got sunburned on that trip. She wore a one-piece and you can see the lines, so I would think that photo was taken not long after his birthday in 2007. Remember that Kate wasn't addicted to tanning at that time, so this most likely was the result of that Florida trip. In 2006 she wasn't tanning.
At that time, I had just a "regular" cell phone with a camera. It took amazing photos, as good as the one that was published. Of course, it could have been taken with an SLR or digital camera and uploaded to the computer. Question, though, is if those files were "stolen" or given to Robert, then how did she come up with the photo of Jon?
In my opinion, she gave out far too much info in her explanation. When you do that, you're opening yourself up for questions and it becomes a tangled web we weave.

I am of Japanese ancestry and my husband is white so my kids are bi-racial. I would NEVER exaggerate feature differences between family members. NEVER. She should've just apologized and said that the picture was not taken to offend anyone but if someone felt offended, she is very sorry. Opening up her mouth (whether it was written by her or otherwise) and making statements like the one above is just uncalled for.
When I first saw the pic, I figured no harm, no foul. I wasn't going to comment. But now, when she makes what I feel are inaccurate statements of what bi-racial families do (we don't do this, by the way; no one I know who is bi-racial does this either), I feel a need to comment.

She opened up her mouth and spewed forth way too much information, thus setting herself up for even more criticism. Why does she do this? She doesn't have a career to boost. And "boost...again" as in, when before? As someone said earlier, it's too late to "salvage" her persona, people's opinions were formed from her attitude and personality on tv and just have been cemented with the blog issues and the tweets.
This didn't help her in any way, even if just juvenile foolishness. If anything, it's either not changed perception or likely added a little uplift to the negative perception, regardless of any explanation. I was out gardening today. It was brutally hot. The neighbor across the street pulled into her driveway and waved me over. She invited me in for some homemade mint tea. I'll never turn down a glass of mint tea! I give her the mint. She makes the tea. She's Chinese. Her husband is Caucasian. They have three gorgeous children, absolutely stunning.
I was itching to ask her about it being "normal" to exaggerate physical differences among races, particularly Asians, by pulling back the eyes. I thought...what the heck...okay, I'll ask. She's cool, and I know her well enough. I explained the whole Gosselin explosion/racial photo. She looked at me like I was nuts. She said it is absolutely not normal in any biracial families that she knew to do the slant eye thing in explaining differences. In fact, she was a bit horrified to think that any parent of a biracial child would even do this, let alone excuse it PUBLICLY as being normal.
She also asked if Kate has a few screws loose! She doesn't know much about her except that she's the woman who sold her eight kids for fame and fortune and that she's been seen out and about town in "hooker" clothing!

I've had an iPhone 3s, 4 and 5. They automatically transfer all data including photos using in the old days iTunes and now ICloud. You don't need to do anything when setting up a new phone except click yes or something like that. People I don't think usually bother to transfer except when the process is pretty much automated.

Regarding saving the photos on an old phone, according to Kate's explanation:
Those photos taken on my phone were later uploaded to be saved on the home computer…..the same source of other private information that was taken and has since been made public, without my consent.
The photos and other data could also have been saved on to discs (which she threw in the trash in one of her fits of anger) and still remained on her computer.
Not sure why people think those photos remained on her phone.

However, it is really up to Nigella to put a stop to this - by leaving him. If she chooses to stay, I still feel sorry for her but not quite as much. She is more fortunate than most women who are in abusive relationships. She has money of her own, she has a job, she has a supportive fan base. So why not simply up and leave this piece of sh*&? Another interesting thing is that the twitter account is still open and public. If it was made to purposely damage Kate, you'd think the tweeter would make that one tweet and then be on their way due to possible ramifications.
I also noted that not only David Perel was included in that tweet, but 3 of Kate's "haters", which leads me to believe even moreso that it was a set up to also get those "haters" in trouble.

Kate can't subpoena Twitter or anyone else. That has to come from the courts. Does Goody think that Kate can simply write up a subpoena and send it to Twitter? Even if Twitter would release the IP of the person who linked the photo, that doesn't mean that it was this person who was responsible for "stealing" it -- it only would show who linked it. It could have been given to that person by any number of people.

I'm really offended by her comment that it's normal for families to exaggerate features of biracial family members. My granddaughter is biracial and never, not for one micro-second has it ever crossed our minds to exaggerate any of her features. We do everything we can to share her heritage, but we are also cautious to never make her feel different than anyone else. She knows she's biracial, but to her it carries no more weight than knowing she's a girl.
Actions like Kate's are the reason society has not moved farther forward in its acceptance of people for who they are.

I'm embarrassed for Paula Deen, who has enough well deserved ire on her plate ( no pun intended), without these mindless sheeple comparing her to the trials of Kate Gosselin. Paula Deen did work her a$& off to support her sons when her deadbeat husband failed to provide child support. FYI those 'boys' are now in their 40's. No TLC, no media blitz, but hard work. All the glitz and glam came later. While she is her own undoing, she is also no Kate Gosselin, who works at almost nothing.

I just don't see that by saying information was taken from her computer is an admission of child abuse or that everything was accurate. Yes, she says that it was taken without her permission, but she stops short in saying that everything printed in Robert's book is fact.

See but I had the same thought about her saying the information was "taken" from her.
It certainly was not taken from her if it was just sitting on the road by the garbage. In PA much like any states garbage is no longer yours and is free for the taking. I was thinking she better be darn sure that's accurate if she's serious about suing.
On another note, I saw some articles saying Kate has an upcoming lawsuit in federal court against Jon and Robert. Why the heck would she need federal court for that? Federal court is not just to make yourself sound important. There are specific purposes for federal court. Since the three of them are all in PA, sue them in PA. You have to file separate motions explaining why you should even get IN to federal court, why waste the time when PA court is perfectly good?
Point being, I am not sure anyone really knows what they are talking about. None of this makes sense. All this talk of a lawsuit but very little actual proof of it. Sometimes I wonder if her attorneys are playing her as much as she is them. And that would be wrong.

That's just it. If it's proven that those are Kate's words, and she's guilty as charged of everything in Robert's book, the only thing the sheep have to fall back on is HOW it was obtained. I'm not sure if she was brilliant to me but there's no question she can act. Country Strong was rather underrated. It wasn't a perfect movie but I don't think it was terrible either. I am not into country music at all but it kept my interest and that's saying something. And I thought the soundtrack was solid.

I've never liked teasing. To me it's getting laughs at someone else's expense. It’s passive/aggressive behavior. Sometimes, often, the person being teased is not enjoying the joke half as much as those who are doing the laughing.
IMO people who have to depend on teasing to get laughs actually have no sense of humor. Why? Because what they’re saying isn't really funny, it’s attacking. Indeed, the information was not altered according to Robert's April 8 blog post. Kate had to come to the realization real quick that she could not claim the journal was altered or any of it is lies. And moreover, that's not necessarily how it works in civil court. She watches too much T.V. Yes there are many, many rules and fine lines for cops. A cop can't just take what he wants then use it in court without proper protocol like warrants. But in civil court, not necessarily. Just because something may have been obtained by a private person in a manner that is not "kosher" does not mean it's necessarily inadmissible. A party who may have done something improper may be admonished by the judge in other ways but it doesn't mean the evidence goes poof!
The whole point of warrants and whatnot is to prevent the STATE from just trooping through your private matters. Private people doing the same are handled differently by prosecuting them for stealing, etc. You can't prosecute a cop for stealing in the same context but you can punish him in other ways by making his evidence useless. That is the point of it.

Teasing is an interesting thing because for some people they don't mind it. There are some people that like to be teased, that like to banter back and forth. But it is a humor that is DEPENDENT on all parties agreeing to it. Whereas other styles of humor tends to have broader appeal. I think the thing with teasing is you simply cannot do it to a broad audience without being prepared that some or many will not appreciate it and will be hurt. It also is delicate humor, because two parties can be enjoying it for a long time then suddenly it goes too far and suddenly it's not fun.
Also, there is teasing and then there is humor from hurting people. You know, the kid who twists his brothers arm then laughs when his brother cries. And that goes beyond a little teasing into sociopathy. Personally, I think Kate's behavior borders more on that side than just teasing.
Isn't it funny how every time something happens that Kate probably can't wait to blow over, Milo just keeps reminding her about it? (Sorry, terrible sentence.) She tweets her over and over about it, often just minutes apart. Wouldn't that just set anyone's teeth on edge? She just doesn't get how bad that is.

I thought that myself, but changed my mind. My narcissist wasnt that smart. IMO..I think Kate was on the lookout for anyone who she felt she could " hook" and then "reel in". It usually is someone with a very big heart who typically never sees the bad in people.
I also believe, she was on the lookout for someone with some money, or access to money as she knew the in vitro treatments were $$$ . Jon was a rich kid. Kate saw that and acted. Having mulllltiples that were biracial was the icing on the cake!
But who knows. When their is a hidden agenda, people can overcome their aversions quite quickly.

Exactly. How long has it been since the word was first spread by the ever unreliable ROL that Kate and/or BV were in the process of filing a lawsuit? Or that Kate and/or BV were serving subpoenas for people's records? I will believe a lawsuit has been filed when I am able to check the docket of whatever court it is supposedly filed in, and prove to myself such a suit has been filed. I have to say I actually did know someone who married an African American who would make racist remarks. It didn't make a whole lotta sense. But that's the only time I've ever seen it.
But yet another blogger hurt by this and wondering where the apology is is right, it doesn't prove you are not racist just because you married (and are divorced from and trash all the time) someone of a different race. Didn't slave owners have children with their slaves sometimes?
Watched Paula Deen's interview on the Today Show. Matt actually asked her if she wished she would have lied under oath? WTF? I question the ethics of some people. He says some people fudge the truth under oath. I am shaking my head. Does this bother anyone else?

Millicent, I agree. I'm not trying to goad them to "dare" them to file, however, I will believe it, and probably understand it a heck of a lot better, when I too see the case number.
If I had to guess, all this talk ended up in a lawyer's office, where they were told they have no case.

Now PD is insisting she only used the N word once, even though in her deposition she said she had used it more than once?
Also, she is now saying that she didn't know that it was offensive, because her employees use it? From the article and interview:
"During the deposition, Deen was asked about racist jokes, and she responded that she could not determine what offended various groups of people. Lauer specifically asked her if she knew that the N-word was offensive to black people.
"I don’t know, I have asked myself that so many times," Deen said. "It's very distressing for me to go into my kitchens and hear what these young people are calling each other ... it’s very distressing for me. I think for this problem to be worked on, that these young people are gonna have to take control and start showing respect for each other."
And while Deen said during the deposition that she was "sure" she'd used the N-word more than once, she told Lauer she had only used it to describe an incident in 1986, when she says she was held at gunpoint by a black man.
“The day I used that word it was a world ago -- it was 30 years ago -- I had had a gun put to my head,” said Deen, who continued to harp on the situation.
When Lauer pressed her about the inconsistency, Deen insisted,"Never," adding that was the only time "in my 66 years on Earth had I ever used it.”
Talk about backtracking. Just like Kate, the more she talks, the more she makes herself look worse.
I've read where the sales of PD's book have gone up, and also her cruise. Maybe that's what Kate is hoping for-that all this controversy will increase her book sales.
Depends on the book Fido, a regular book is so much cheaper than a cookbook. It would be a wild guess to say how much needs to be sold to break even. Maybe that's what that meetin' was about hehe. Lots of upfront costs went into it, the photographers and editors and graphic artists would be a huge one.
We're talking glossy pages and tons of photographs, I'm guessing the price of each book is at least 5 or 6 bucks. Maybe Virginia pen mom or others can weigh in.

Oh come on! What, she is the ONE PERSON in the entire country who has not heard of the concept that some African Americans use the N word themselves and believe they have sort of "taken it back" from whites? But that it doesn't make it okay when anyone else uses it outside that context? Whether or not you agree with it (and many AA's themselves do not agree with it), don't play DUMB about it!
If it bothered her so darn much, why didn't she just call a meeting with HR and the employees and discuss appropriate language for the kitchen (Has she BEEN in a kitchen before?)

As I mentioned before, sales for PD's cruise have increased and a second cruise has been added. Alice Travel is the agency that handles her cruise.
I bet Cindy Cardella is really upset that all the controversy about Kate didn't happen last year before Kate's cruise was cancelled, and is thinking "Darn. Why didn't we think of that?"

I don't know if this has been discussrd as I've only read the most recent comments. Is Katie Deen, the person who tweeted the photo of Kate, a real person? If not, maybe the person who tweeted the picture used Kate's first name and Paula's last name to make a point as they are both in the news about their actions. Both Kate and Paula have said they aren't racists. Maybe they are. Maybe they aren't. However, they are both clueless and insensitive.
Admin. I agree with you with regard to Halle Berry. It's been reported that the pictures of her with her daughter at the beach are taken at a beach that is notorius for having paps there. So why go to that beach. I'm sure there are other beaches for her to go to. I think she definitely plays the pap game.
Halle Berry is a bonafide parental alienator who has been going all over L.A. trying to get judges to let her cut off her little girl's father once and for all. None of them are buying it. She has been shut down again and again, case dismissed, get out of my courtroom. In the process of all this, many people have been involved and I've heard a lot of crap about her and her love of the paps, her hatred for her child's father, and her severe mental instability. All of which has been well documented by other sources online if you want to read more. I take everything she does with a grain of salt but I do hope the bill goes through.
Unfortunately, Halle found herself in a state that believes in parental alienation and WON'T LET HER DO IT. Maybe she should move elsewhere. Oh but oops they won't let her do that either! Snap!
