Last week's Kitchen Nightmare's featured some of the most-hated instant villains in reality T.V. history. Amy and Samy Bouzaglo of Scottsdale, Arizona, stole their staffs' tips, fired people on the spot for minor transgressions, and refused to consider any of Gordon Ramsey's suggestions to improve. The pair was so insufferable, Ramsey finally walked out and stopped production, the first time he's ever done so. And the drama didn't stop there. A few days later, a string of nasty Facebook posts, reportedly from the restaurant (they claim they were "hacked"), set off a social media firestorm.
The couple have been bellyaching for years about their "bullies" and "haters," to little sympathy from the rest of the world. Many bloggers and entertainment writers out there have summed this couple up quite nicely, but perhaps ABC's Alex Alvarez did it best. Wrote Alvarez this week: "The reality is that most people do not know or care enough about you to hate you. The internet will always be populated with trolls, but those people are entirely distinct from people who disagree with or criticize you. People are able to not enjoy your service, product, or performance while having no opinion of you as a person. People are capable of not enjoying a pizza dish while also not actively plotting to bring on your demise and that of your restaurant. And those are the people worth listening to. They can potentially make you and what you do better."
This whole saga set off an interesting discussion of what haters and bullies really are and what role social media plays in one's interactions with their clientele, fans, and non-fans. It highlighted the simple fact that many times, "hate" is just constructive criticism that the recipient just could not handle.
Tuesday, Amy's Baking Company will re-open for dinner service. With boobyguards in place and a sold out house, this ridiculous saga is probably not over yet. The drama has already started, with Kitchen Nightmares reportedly sending what sounds like some kind of cease and desist to the couple, which caused them to cancel a planned press conference tomorrow. Darn, that press conference could have been good!

LOL, I see an opened tin of tomato/pizza sauce next to the homemade pizzas. Something sauce-y on the burner, too. Did she merely warm up the contents of that can, or did she add a special blend of spices that evoke a certain memory?
Bad photo aside, this is yet another place where mediocre effort = major fail. Given very few words and the right angle, Kate could turn this tweet into a visual narrative about a busy mom who converts quality ingredients into something even more irresistible. Something that sells cookbooks. Same as what's been said about PW. Homespun meals with a unique twist, served with a side dish of cowboys and workmen.

Starzz you said Janelle, the one who works, is the only one with a sense of worth. I agree. I think she is a perfect example of why working is just plain good for a woman. It doesn't necessarily have to be at a conventional job or a full time job. It can even mean working as a SAHM and being able to do things like Girl Scout troop leader and PTA. But working is just good for the soul. I'm not really sure what the others DO other than putter around. I don't see a lot of kid-raising, the kids are usually just running amuck. In other words I don't see the moms doing projects with them or taking them out to various educational places. They're just sort of all THERE.
The Beth bashing from the sheeple is interesting, since I'm pretty certain Kate has never, not once, acknowledged that there are any problems with Beth. Heck for all we know Beth and Kate are still BFF and Beth just asked Kate not to mention her because she wants to be private or something.
Now, common sense and Kate's patterns suggest that the odds are 99%, she and Beth are estranged. But since Kate has never acknowledged that, no one can say that for sure. Are the sheeple too getting some common sense and seeing the pattern here? I like when they admit things without realizing it. Happens often.

Kate - Even some of the best cooks use canned, pre-made ingredients. Own it or get the open can out of the picture BEFORE publishing it on twitter. OK, so maybe you make your own dough but everything else is store bought. As for me, the pizza dough that I can get at my local co-op is good enough so I'll continue tu use that (I own being lazy at times) but I do make all my own sauce from tomatoes from my garden and freeze for the year. Are all the pictures in your book as awkward as that one?

If I remember correctly, when the Browns lived in Utah in one big house (separate apartments), Janelle worked full time and handled all the financial aspects of their lives like bill paying, etc. Christine did all the cooking, and child care and busy Meri with one nearly 18 year old, worked part-time and basically did not do much. Kody was out scouting for wife number 4. When Christine was in hospital delivering her last child, Kody brought wife #4 to be to visit. Imagine delivering a child and your "husband" is out recruiting. Also, interesting regarding the homes in Vegas, Janelle Brown owns her home, Christine Brown owns her home, Meri and Kody Brown own Meri's home and Robyn Sullivan, not Brown, owns her home. This is going to be a fine legal mess when it all implodes, which it will. Rumor also has it that the contractor of this development is a little shady. I wonder where TLC finds these people.

I still don't understand why she just didn't embed the links to Amazon and B&N in the original post.
B&N and BooksaMillion both still have the release date as Sept. 3. I emailed both asking about the discrepancy, but only heard back from BAM. This is what they said:

We show the release date as 9/3/13 but the publisher may have changed that. We have not been notified of a change. Booksamillion and Amazon will ship the book when it releases. I do apologize I do not have more information. I have asked for the release date to be checked."

lol!! I guess she'd really have to "fudge" that one by saying that bots are a part of the marketing plan for the book, and the book sales are necessary for Kate to support the kids. That poor Kate fan is a dreamer, just like her idol.
I predict two things:
(1)Due to poor presale numbers, Kate's crookbook date will be pushed again, again, and again.
(2)There will be no talk show appearances. She blew up that bridge a long time ago.
Besides, I sincerely doubt that her crookbook is groundbreaking- certainly not worthy of a television appearance.

IMO, Kate would have fared better writing a book on fooling the unsuspecting...

Anyone read Michael Schiavo's book about Terri Schiavo? I found it for $5 at a used book store. It's quite interesting.
Lol, they don't push back publication dates just for interviews. There are myriad reasons why a book might be pushed back. It was only a few weeks difference, probably some benign reason.
There haven't been very many cookbooks ordered through one major source for retailers and others. And the other day, all of KG's books were sent packing to the book sale. $.25 and they're yours!
I don't think she'd better rely on writing anything for long-term income.
Rich, Kate isn't doing much to report lol. I did a post on the few things she has been up to lately, like the cookbook and Derby. Usually she just teases that she's up to no good but nothing ever comes of it. As far as the tweets I was using an app for blogger that showed the tweets. I'm not sure what happened but apps to embed tweets on your site stopped working several months ago. I think it might have something to do with Twitter not liking it and inserting some code to prevent it. I haven't been able to figure out a way around it for blogger. If anyone wants to figure out a way around it please do.
I haven't read it yet myself but FYI for anyone who uses library kindle Amanda Knox's book has been made available for download for free. I've read The Fatal Gift of Beauty. It has a lot to say about Amanda's asperger's like behaviors.
And yes she was doing media rounds after the book was released. She did the ABC Diane Sawyer interview and that morning the book was released, I believe. That makes sense to me, you see Amanda Knox on T.V. get interested in her book then go buy it. I would be pretty annoying to swing by Barnes and Noble after seeing her interview and oops it's not released yet! This kind of teasing is how you lose customers, not gain them.
Some days naan bread is just a whole lot more interesting and useful than Kate Gosselin.

I for one am happy when we have no news of children who are entitled to their privacy.

However, a few minutes later, she replied again to the fan and actually put the link to the post that has the pre-order links to Amazon and B&N. I took a look at Brian Boitano's twitter. His cookbook came out May 7. His twitter bio has a direct link to the Amazon page for his book. It also has a link to his web site.

The way this book is selling I doubt that stores are going to be ordering hundreds of copies if it. If Kate's lucky they may order one or two copies. Our local bookstore said they weren't getting any in but would be happy to order a copy for me. I declined and ordered Brian Boitano's cookbook instead.

I'm not sure many mainstream bookstores really carry celebrity books other than the real popular ones like say Tina Fey, hers was on the best seller list for a long time. These days it seems like every celeb has written a book, but it's not like you go into Barnes and Noble and there they are. Not that I've ever seen. This is really an online marketplace if you want to peddle your vanity project and I really don't think there's much money in it. I think it's mostly just a means to an end, just yet another promotional tool. Most are probably written by ghostwriters on a short turnaround.
Years ago I was trying to find one by someone most people would consider a B lister and never saw it anywhere. Had to order it online.
I was looking at the book sales at novelrank.com and found out something interesting. I clicked on the link for the book at Amazon.ca(the Canadian site) and that also lists the release date as Sept. 3. Amazon.com and Amazon.uk list it as Sept. 24.
By the way, this is part of the response I got from Barnes & Noble through their online chat when I asked about the discrepancy in the release date between them and Amazon:
B&N: Unfortunately, we are unable to determine the difference in release dates with competitor websites. Please know that the release dates of the items sold on our website are determined by their Publishers.
After I mentioned that the Publisher, HCI, has the release date as Sept.24 on THEIR website, I go this response.
B&N: Furthermore, please know that the date we listed on our website is the release date our publisher provided on when copies of this book is going to be released on our website. I was shopping one day in target and saw "I just want you to know" I was going to get it then...
I saw it was $29.99 I was like yeah right lol I'm not spending that on a book.

I admit it ~ I do not make pizza. A local pizza place has half-off Tuesdays. I get my son a large pizza for under $10 and I get a night off.
I think the B&N publication date just hasn't been updated. The date did not change until just very recently on a distributor's site that I sometimes order from, changed several weeks later than Amazon's, I think. We never count on an actual date or a book actually being published until far closer to the given date, as it fluctuates and is pushed back often for so many books.

Charles Ramsey On Free Burger Offers: 'I Never Told These People They Could Use My Name'
CLEVELAND -- The man who famously put aside his Big Mac to help rescue three women held captive in a Cleveland house said Friday that he's not endorsing a group of restaurants that are offering him free burgers for life and wants his name kept out of it.
"I never told these people they could use my name for this," Charles Ramsey said in a written statement released through attorney, Patricia Walker.
The restaurant where Ramsey worked as a dishwasher initially created a special burger named his honor, called the Ramsey Burger. Then more than a dozen area eateries had decided a larger tribute was due.
Ramsey said he doesn't endorse the northeast Ohio restaurants that are offering burgers bearing the Ramsey name, or that are promoting a lifetime of free burgers for him.
The owner of the restaurant group said in a statement Friday evening that it will drop the burger from the menu, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.
"We are saddened to hear that Chuck did not take this – or the offer of so many Cleveland restaurants to give him free meals – in the spirit we intended," Scott Kuhn of the Driftwood Restaurant Group said in a statement, the newspaper reported.
A message seeking additional comment was left Friday at the Driftwood Restaurant Group in Cleveland, and at an attempt was made to reach Ramsey at Hodge's restaurant.
Ramsey was called a hero after helping Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight break out of the house May 6. Homeowner Ariel Castro faces charges. His defense team has said he will plead not guilty.
The statement from Ramsey's attorney said he has not authorized any merchandise. "Ramsey encourages people to do things that will help the victims," the statement said.
It's unclear whether Ramsey would be accepting free burgers.
Local McDonald's franchisees in Ramsey's neighborhood have offered him complimentary food at their restaurants for the next year, a spokeswoman for Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald's Corp. confirmed Thursday.
Ramsey had noted in an interview with a local TV station that he was eating McDonald's when the scene unfolded. He also spoke of it in a 911 call. Both the interview and the call quickly became popular online, and McDonald's caught wind of Ramsey's mentions.
McDonald's also has made a $10,000 donation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the names of the three women and Ramsey.

Wow good ole Ramsey. It didn't occur to me he would turn down those offers. The thing I did think would be fun he could do though is go there every day for lunch, order something, and then give it to someone else in line. He has it right, stop donating to ME, donate to those in need. Who is he to say no? Well, he said no! :) Even a dishwasher making minimum wage knows what's right. How about donate a year of free burgers to a homeless shelter? I think it's nice that he is putting his money where his mouth is when he whipped out his paycheck and said I HAVE income (however small), don't give anything to me.

I just went to check out Amy's Baking Company reviews on Yelp and it seems things are not going well. A reviewer noted they had tried to go there on Friday evening and found the door locked, with an employee inside motioning the restaurant was closed. The reviewer then posted the following link, guessing the closure may have been caused by the event it described.

I'm sorry, I cannot get behind that reasoning. No, we need to take reasonable precautions. And one of them includes not making such pictures available to strangers, by either locking your facebook down to only people you know (there is even an easy customizable privacy setting where you could easily only make each child's pic available to only close friends and family), or by not posting them on the internet at all, imagine that. I don't think most people are going to be convinced it was a good idea for Kate to post those pics.

I was wondering the same thing. I read a lot of her tweets trying to see if she had children or grandchildren. She's the one who told Kate she could probably afford to buy Kate's kids iTunes gift cards because she just got a job. There's something "off" about her tweets, the wording or sentences. She said she recently lost 87 lbs. and works at Weight Watchers.

Fruit flies are a real pain to get rid of once they start hatching. Fruit needs to be kept in the fridge because those little buggers will sniff out fermenting fruit from a mile away. Sami should know that since he seems to know everything else.

Sometimes I will buy the already made pizza crusts when my granddaughter and her friends are here. They love to "make their own pizza". While I don't make my own dough, I still love to watch the kids have fun. Why doesn't Kart let her kids make their own pizzas? I'm surprised a clean freak like Amy would have that problem. Then again, it's all a facade. She would be the type to keep everything visible on the shelf spotless but to have rats nests in the corner you can't see.

I'm reading the Business & Finance section of my Sunday Cape Cod Times and what do I see. An article titled "Arizona restaurateur's temper boils over in high-profile social media meltdown" with a sub-title "An expletive-laced string of posts shows what to avoid in response to poor online reviews, experts say." The first line of the article says, "It was the customer service disaster heard around the Internet." It was about Amy's Baking Co. Amy's been getting years of negative reviews (from the sounds of things, basically since she opened the restaurant) and she doesn't think she's doing anything wrong. At one point in the article, Amy and Samy blame online bullies with Amy saying, "We stand up to them." Boy, she is just like Kate. As people say, you can't make this shit up.

We have a product here that's sold in the farm and home centers -- Camicide. It sounds like a horrible chemical, but it's non toxic to people and pets. It's an all natural product made from flowers. It takes care of the fruit flies and other flying pests right away. I always keep some on hand because there are times when I tend to get those little flying insects around the bird cage.
Fruitflies get in the liquor bottles when you use cheap plastic toppers for the opened bottles that are out all the time. The better toppers have a device that closes after each drink is poured, thus leaving the alchol bug and dust free. I can assure you that more than the gin or vodka had bugs. I was a bartender for many years and if precautions are not taken you can lose quite a bit of inventory, plus customers.

It's uncanny how much alike she and Kate are. Did you notice on CWS Kendra remarked how clean Kate's kitchen was and it does look clean, but Kate herself has admitted her bedroom is a mess. I found this online and felt it described Kate at least to a tee. I'm not sure that I like the fact that the author seems to lump all single mothers into one generalized stereotype. I think it's more a case of there are whiny people who happen to be single parents and who complain about every aspect of their life, not just there single parenthood. Still, I thought I'd share.

I'm sorry, I cannot get behind that reasoning. No, we need to take reasonable precautions. There is a world of difference between overtly sexual images and innocent pictures that some freak might get off on. I am OBVIOUSLY not saying post provocative pictures of your children. I am saying that the reality is that the type of picture really doesn't matter at all, so singling out certain types of innocent images and saying they are inappropriate is an arbitrary, meaningless line.
This works like a charm for fruit flies. Mix together one cup water, one tbsp. sugar, one tbsp. vinegar and a couple of drops of liquid dish soap. I keep it in a glass on my counter and the fruit flies flock right to it.

I don't think drawing the line at photos of a child in bed is "arbitrary." You act like people are saying its okay to show a picture of a child eating an apple but not an orange. The lines drawn by reasonable people make sense to me.

Re: cleanliness. In the old house, Kate said Jon was the official bedmaker (on top of everything else!) She admitted they never made their own bed, and later episodes showed the kids with no sheets on the mattress or just an old grey blanket rather than the comforters Kate fussed about when Joel threw up on his. I guess Jon was not on duty! Kate I think likes to delegate for a pretty picture of a home, but basically is lazy.She'd be lost without 'helpers.'
I agree, chef. The person LOOKING at the picture is the issue. To you and me, it's kids in their pj's. Innocent, maybe even cute. No harm for US to look at them, even though we should not have access to them. But, there are too many people who leer at children for less than innocent reasons. THEY see something there

So, in order to prevent these precious children from being some kind of mental peep show for perverts, it makes sense to keep the pictures private. If you just HAVE to take the picture, fine. But don't send it over the internet. Show it to Aunt Mildred and Uncle Stewie on your iPhone when you visit this summer.
Why give perverts more material? Who needs to see these pictures RIGHT NOW that they have to be sent through cyberspace? It makes no sense to me that we are forever looking at our families through camera lenses. Put down the camera phone and look your children in the eye. Look into their faces and make a memory. Now that you mention it, I do remember when my son was in grade school, they had an occasional cooking segment in the classroom. One time, they made pizza using toasted muffins topped with pizza sauce, cheese and your choice of toppings. My son asked if we could do the same at home, so on several Friday nights thereafter, we would have pizza night, until he was no longer interested. It was fun :)
I'm a bit of a clean freak too - on a small scale. I prefer to handwash my dishes and do so five or six times per day. I wipe down the counter tops, the stove, etc. I like things clean in my kitchen. But that doesn't mean we can have some fun cooking together and I still enjoy it when my son decides he wants to make some crazy creation or another. It's too bad that Kate and her kids seem to miss out on this type of spontaneous fun.

I'm curious what role, if any, being in the public eye has aggravated her mental illness. If it's schizophrenia, often there is a triggering event that sets it off.

I learned some sad news regarding a family member earlier this week. Today I posted on my FB page, expressing how much I love and appreciate everyone in my family. The main difference between what I posted and what Kate tweeted is that I didn't include one negative thing. For Kate, it always has to emphasize how she is grateful for all the "craziness of having 8 children", or grateful DESPITE this, that or the other. Never just plain grateful for how wonderful her life is (or should be).
My parents set a wonderful example for their children - they never complained, about anything. If a situation arose, they simply dealt with it, and always focused on the positive. They never once said anything to outsiders about any sibling rivalry within our household. When they expressed gratitude, it would be along the lines of "we get so much help from our children" or commenting on how one child or another helped solve a problem, create something helpful, said something funny, etc.
When I count my blessings, all I remember are the good times, not the bad. I don't know that Kate is capable of that.
There is no way Kate would do any of the things the sheeple want her to do. Everyone will see who she really is. No purse boy to monitor the internet for copyrighted material. Oh wait, is there copyright on youtube. I know there is with some things, just too much trouble to keep track of it when you have no brains or common sense. Also no lawyers to sue everyone who wants to name and spell their child's name the same as hers.
That is the one thing I know Kate has enough smarts for. She can't hide her life without others help. This is what I love about the sheeple. They are the only ones that can't figure it out and it's going to hit the fan if they keep bugging her about it. She knows the consequences and they're going to push her till something happens. We see it with Milo already. Kate has been ignoring her. But she can't ignore all of them without ticking off someone, say like MsGoody? I'd love to watch that.

If Kate's idea of a preview of summer is 64 degrees, then I guess it was. I had the down comforters cleaned and put away and had to pull them out the past two nights. It's supposed to go down to 41 again tonight, clear and quite chilly, with highs only in the low 70s tomorrow...not exactly steaming hot summer weather for swimming. But I guess she just had to humble brag about the POOL again.

Melissa Gilbert is also releasing a cookbook and is posting a bunch of her pics from the photoshoot. They've got all kinds of fun spreads and she shows the photographer's got his camera hooked up to the laptop as he works so they can see. She understands how to use social media. Many people love behind the scenes stuff.

Joy - Thanks. The Jersey Shore is on the mend. Boardwalks are almost done, beach grass is being replanted and folks are looking forward to a great summer.
I think that part of Kate's problem is that TLC owns the rights to J&K+8 as well as K+8 and she may just have to have their permission to go forward with some things. Since TLC is apparently showing both shows overseas they may be putting the kibosh on some of her "projects". That's what happens when you sell your soul to the highest bidder. You get what you get and don't get upset. She has probably signed confidentiality agreements which is why she's never bad mouthed them.

I fell terrible for her parents too. My parents' friends had a son who was diagnosed schizophrenic at 14. FOURTEEN! My siblings and I were a few years older and had no idea as we moved away about that time. I remember him as an athletic sweet curly-haired blonde boy. Sadly, he killed himself in his early 20s. His parents are so strong and sweet...I am no facebook friends with them and their daughter who I went to high school with but she was in the "cool" crowd. You never know what people are going through. This is why Kate and her empty complaining just pisses me off.

The last time Kate replied directly to Milo was on the 15th. Since then, Kate has only retweeted two of Milo's tweets about the book.

So now Milo can sleep well, dreaming of Kate in her bikini! You just know that Kate rocks it. I'm surprised Milo didn't ask her if it was an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot one!

Here's a simple solution for Kate tweeting pictures of her kids. As many have said, the issue isn't a seemingly innocuous photo, it's who may be looking at it. So all Kate has to do is keep her twitter and instagram private. Then the only people who get to see pics of her kids are people she has personally vetted. It's what most normal moms do, including most celebrity moms.
But see, that's not what Kate is concerned about. Kate wants to continue to play uber popular reality show mom with the fans that she has left.
Im not sure the pool is that big of a deal if it's heated. We used to go in a friend's hottub all the time and it would be 30 degrees out. You actually feel really warm as you get out and walk back inside. Can't be much different than a heated pool in 60 degrees.
It's different. Kids don't stay in the water. They are in and out, using the slide and diving board, jumping off the sides. She said the water was cold, and if the water was cold, and so was the air (and breezy), there's no feeling warm at all.
In the picture she posted where she's making the two pizzas isn't there snow on the trees? Today the kids were in the pool?

There's no snow, and there hasn't been any snow for quite some time. If there is snow on the pictures of her making pizza, then it's an old photo. If the kids were in the pool today, they weren't in there very long. She only opened it and filled it recently. There hasn't been any really warm days to heat the water, and if she has a heater, it takes longer than a few days to heat up to where it's a comfortable temperature. We have a 30,000 gallon pool, electric heater, and it takes about a week to get it to the right temperature where we aren't freezing.
We definitely weren't swimming today. The air was just too chilly. What fun is swimming when your teeth are chattering and your lips are turning blue? It's supposed to warm up toward the end of the week, though. Maybe then we'll give it a try. There's no reason to push the season.
I'm pretty sure 9 and 12 year olds are capable of getting out of the pool if it's not comfortable for them. :) They're not toddlers, I'm not really worried about this.
Lovely that she needs to tweet it was a bikini day in her backyard - just what a few of her pervy fans need to read, she just loves to stoke that fire. Another Gosselin family holiday weekend, home alone and all by themselves. Fun, fun, fun.

I'm not worried about it, either. They're not my kids. If they want to swim in cold water in 60 degree weather, then so be it. I only commented that it was too cold to swim today. Mine stuck their toes in the pool, said "no way" and headed for the basketball net.

Yes, the kids are capable of making these judgments, but doesn't kate have some bizzare rules about how long they have to stay in the water?
