Discovery pulls 'American Guns' from line-up

The Discovery Channel announced yesterday that they've cancelled their successful reality series about a Colorado family that restores firearms. They also won't be showing any reruns. Other shows have delayed or pulled episodes, including TLC's new special "Best Funeral Ever," which was pushed back to January. Actually growing a heart, or just concerned about bad PR? Sadly, probably the latter.

In other news, it was heartwarming to see the Red Cross blankets providing their intended comfort to those who need it. Several people were spotted wrapped in the blankets attending a memorial service on Sunday in Newtown.

I know people say Honey Boo is a good kid and they are a nice family. That may be so. But for Elaine what's her face at TLC to defend this stuff like she's actually trying to do a good deed is just insane. I forgot her exact quotes but I was scratching my head over it.

Elaine cannot admit that her channel is the circus freak channel, PERIOD, and that she makes money by exploiting circus freaks, PERIOD. Own it, she's been very successful at it, and it's not her fault if us the viewers can't help but tune in and line her pockets.

TLC also used to buy some halfway decent British and some American documentaries about interesting people and they would air those and I would tune in. The dumbing down of America I guess, they are making boatloads more money airing CRAP.

No haven't seen that but looks funny!

What's odd is I feel like there are still a lot of really decent, high quality movies and TV shows out there that people love. A few examples, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Lincoln, Les Miz. And yet we will watch so much crap too.

I guess sometimes you feel like a burger and sometimes you want a filet mignon?

PJ's momma said...

Idiocracy is like All in the Family In that the people it parodies find it funny because it's them and they don't even know it, and people with a brain find it funny in an'OMG OMG, I should not be laughing but it's so true' kind of way.

Shows like that are guilty pleasures for some, i get it, they just were never ever my cup of tea. I'm not at all a TV person, the only show I really watch regularly is DWTS, which I guess is kind of like a guilty pleasure ... but that's also quality TV! Len makes me smile :)

So I google searched TLC's history and apparently there was once a show they aired called My Monkey Baby, in like 2009? LOL wow, they hit rock bottom a long time ago.

Another big reason little kids really shouldn't be working is it puts you in an impossible position where a decent person would want them to have every dollar they ever earned, and yet, you'd be spoiling them if you do that. So what do you do? Even putting it all in a trust fund doesn't solve the problem because trust fund children often are too young to handle it even if they are adults.

Kids and money just shouldn't mix. It shouldn't be about MONEY when it comes to raising kids. Money is an adult matter, not intended for young children.

Working Woman said...

And kids are absolute blessings ... so innocent, so resiliant, so intuitive, so curious. They are meant to basically be care-free and have 1 job and 1 job only: to enjoy being children.

Once they are used as little money-makers, they are serving a whole new purpose, and it's so demeaning. And it makes parents look incredibly lazy and lacking of the desire to support their family themselves.

Not to mention, it's extremely dangerous. The world is full of wonderful people, but sadly it is filled with nutjobs too, there is no way around that . WHY would anyone willingly expose their innocent children to these people?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

There are a couple child actors who truly truly had a real passion for acting and are darn good at it, and that I understand as I had my passions too as a kid that I was allowed to chase after with no ill effects.

I think a good example is Fred Savage, he really really wanted to act, he was incredibly talented, and so his parents let him act and continued to work real jobs. In that scenario it worked, he was getting to follow his passion and there was no money tied up to it. Now he's one saying this whole thing about child actors is overblown. He fails to realize for him it WAS but for others it wasn't because others weren't raised in a supportive and positive environment like he was. With the exception of those few kids, the whole thing really just isn't healthy. In any case, none of these Gosselin kids are passionate about reality T.V., gimme a break. And it's not a scenerio where their lives were kept as mediocre as possible, their whole lives have done a 180 from where they were before and that is a huge red flag.

So sad when there are deaths in December. There have been too, too many this year.

Kate Gosselin made the news again...but this seems to me a new low. She's part of TIME Magazine's 2012 parade of the horribles (alongside gross foodstuffs, movie-house flops, outrageous behaviors and bottomed-out celebrities, etc.).

From TIME magazine's "The year in HIGHS and LOWS: Our Guide to the WINNERS and LOSERS," two KATES:

Middleton is pregnant.
Gosselin was fired from her coupon-blogging job.

Right, to me there's also somewhat of a difference if it's something a child truly wants to do. There's a difference between a child being extremely passionate about acting and having a natural gift for it, as Fred Savage did, and parents pushing their kids to pursue stardom for their own benefit, while claiming that their kids love it.

Either way, obviously, there could be some long-term effects that I wouldn't personally want for my child. But, it's the parents who push and rob their kids of childhood when the children were never given a choice in the matter, that's what bugs me.

By the way, you know who was a really gifted child actor? Haley Joel Osment, from The Sixth Sense. Wow was he good, many critics thought he stole the show, even alongside some very talented notable actors (Bruce Willis, Toni Colette, etc).

So there is true talent out there, I just hate when parents force it without the child having any say (i.e the Olsen twins).

Yes I totally agree. And there is no question the Gosselins were pushed into it without any choice in the matter given they could barely string two words together when the show started.

My EX husband just sent me this; it is really a thought-provoking quote:

"Never confuse the person, formed in the image of God,
with the evil that is in him:
because evil is but a chance misfortune, an illness, a devilish reverie.
But the very essence of the person is the image of God,
and this remains in him despite every disfigurement."

St. John of Kronstadt

I guess he meant people like Kate.

As for child stars: I was a kid in California who wanted to be an actor from the time I saw my first movie. Spent time composing plays and acting them out with my dolls and stuffed toys as "audience". I played all the parts myself, because I didn't trust my cousins to stay on script, LOL! One day I was with Mom at the hairdresser's when an actual talent scout was there also. She watched me as I acted out another one of my skits, playing all the parts as usual, and offered to send me for testing and a possible contract. Mom said "absolutely not!". Broke my heart. She said I could do that when I was old enough to choose. I knew the chance would never come again, and it did not. Wonder what my life would have been like if Mom had said yes.

What really bugs me about KT is that she refuses to move on. It would appear by her tweets that she is reliving the past instead of moving forward, which has to put pressure on the kids to feed into her we want another show mentality.

At some point, she should just say we had a good run, we had great experiences, we traveled the world, the kids all have a college fund (hopefully) and we are thankful for the opportunity, but happy to move on. Sadly, I don't think she will ever reach that point. I think she is driving herself mad begging constantly for a new show to anyone who will listen to no avail.

It is entirely possible that if she quit doing that a new show might come to her, quietly, without fanfare. The overexposure of the kids and their lives and hers on Twitter is also contributing to not getting a show, I believe.
Sometimes the less obtainable something might be the more desirable it becomes, particularly it seems in the "industry."

Brad Pitt would not have been paid 7 million dollars for a 1 minute commercial that makes no sense yet riveting, if he had been readily available.

At any rate, I hope they all have a good Christmas this year, as well as all of you here.

OMG guys ... get this.

I'm reading in the newspaper about a family that is very local to me in Feasterville PA, the Carey family, who have 18-month old sextuplets and a 3-year-old daughter. 7 kids under 3.

The parents are very humble and unassuming. They seem to have stayed under the radar for the first year-and-a-half of their childrens lives, because, as the mom puts it, she was busy taking care of her wonderful babies. So really, hardly anyone even knew about this family until this weekend. I'm pretty sure anyone within a 200-mile radius of Kate knew her story months before the tups were even born.

The mother and father of the seven children are very accepting of help from family, friends, and their church, but I am reading nothing about them being in talks of any kind of reality show. The mother is a respected math teacher at a nearby high school and the father is a bar tender. My guess is, when things die down, they will work hard in their careers to make a wonderful, nonexploitive life for their beautiful children.

Hey, Kate, guess what? These parents have 7 kids under the age of 3, and they are not milking every feebie they can possibly get. They are not plotting to get their kids on a television show. They are living real, healthy lives.

Guess what else, Kate? You are over, yesterday's news, sets of multiples are NOT that huge of a deal anymore, so you do not need to remind your tweeties every other second that you have 8 count em 8 kids. Not a big deal anymore, doesn't make you special anymore (not that it ever did). Suck on that.

I'm truly surprised the interest in multiples has lasted this long, although I think most people are over it. Finding multiples fascinating after decades of them is like finding a child of in vitro fertilization fascinating. Yes they're all wonderful and miracles but it was a miracle decades ago and America is fickle and isn't impressed for long before they want the next big thing. The first few times it happens it makes front page news but after that people get over it.

The McGhee show really surprises me that Oprah would find this interesting. So they're multiples, what else is new?

Based on her raging narcissism and TLC giving her everything she demanded because the show was making them money. When people began turning away, she was done.

Now she sticks her fingers in her hears and says lalalalala, I can't hear you and tweets meaningless platitudes and reads only the words of love she searches out on Twitter trying to get back that feeling of "stardom." She promises them cookbooks and picture books and has her own production company and after 16 months the only thing she's done is get fired from a coupon blog job.

Her fans don't help her with their encouragement. They merely fan the dying embers of a fluke in her life, a "reality" show. Her narcissism prevented her from having a plan B. She thought she would always be a star. She still lives in a staged reality.

I should feel sorry for her but I don't. I watched portions of a couple of clips that were posted here yesterday. Watching her clomp through department stores like she owned them, thinking she was so sexy and so clever only disgusted me. I couldn't feel any pity at all.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Plan B indeed. Most successful celebs have plans B, C, D, E and F all ready to go should plan A fail. If we had a nickel for every time we heard about someone's project that never makes it. It's fine, you have your back up plans if your current idea doesn't make it.

Kate's problem is she shopped around her scant few ideas for a show that were all basically the same show she always did--travel shows, swap shows, dating shows and the same show she did for five years that got cancelled, and there were no takers. At that point she had NO plan B! She just rinsed and repeated and tried the same thing over again and failed again. Come up with something better, something different, like everyone else who has made it.

Dmasy, seriously??? She actually challenged someone who indicated that her "stardom" would not last forever?? How pathetic. Do you remember where/when this was?

Isn't in funny, you always hear real celebrities with actual talent, like country singer Carrie Underwood, say that they enjoy every single second of their experience because you never know when it may end. These are people who are actually deserving of fame and longevity, and yet the still express enough humility to recognize that stardom is fickle.

And here's Kate who, as Carrie Ann Inaba hilariously pointed out on DWTS, has no real talent or claim-to-fame whatsoever other than her kids (which is no reflection on her, but rather, on her fertility doctors) actually thinks she is famous for the long haul.

Unbelievable, I have never seen anything like this in my life.

See ya, Kate. You're old news.

On a serious note, what child deserves to be on that list? What child should have that kind of intense scrutiny. It's so wrong.
***********************************************

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20656001,00.html

Sorry, still don't know how to make the link clickable. I think Barbara Walters is slowly losing her integrity. No child should be on that list and by putting her on it, she is also helping TLC to continue exploiting her as more people might tune into the show to see what it's all about, which lead to increased ratings, which leads to more cameras in a young child's face for no other reason in that their lifestyle is different. I know she named Kate as one of the most fascinating people in what?--I can't even remember the year--and I can give her a pass for that as she did so before information started coming out about Kate's manipulation and behavior. But I think she should have learned from that and the fallout from other multiple shows as well as TLC's crap programming (as a whole). Or maybe they're all in bed with each other--does her network own TLC or something?

Some people act like she's ruined their lives and scarred them, and they seem to be doing pretty well. Kids who are starving in third-world countries, kids who lose their parents to HIV in Africa, THOSE are kids to feel bad for. Those are the kids who are in true danger.

I just don't think she's AS bad as some of the public makes her out to be. She's a human being, just like all of the posters here ... do you really feel like she deserves to be mocked and ripped to shreds?

Dmasy you said it- Kate feels 1) her family is deserving and 2) no one else's family is.

WHY? Why does she feel so highly of her own family and then, to top it off, so poorly of others? It's not one bad attitude, it's 2!! This is why I don't like Kate. She is so full of herself.
Her family doesn't deserve anything- accept the same as ALL other families and that is a stable home with food on the table- and that has to be earned by the parents- that's their job to provide those for the family. And then to think that others are less deserving than she and her family is just plain, well, despicable.
Kate, if your family deserves the best, then go out and work for it, dont demand it from the rest of society, we dont owe you squat diddly and quite frankly, I dont think your family deserves it.

Just so. Also, she had to have seen the news clips of Honey Boo Boo's mini meltdown on Dr. Drew. She's just contributing to the problems. Why do we put these no-talent people on TV? Just because you can be INFAMOUS is not a reason to get your own TV show. As for the Jackson kids, it's too early to see if they will be as talented as their father and they deserve the privacy to explore their interests

Years ago (mid 1970"s), my nursing supervisor had triplets. Since I was only 20ish at the time and she was in her 40's or 50's, they could have been anywhere from teenagers to my age or older. So I'm pretty sure they were conceived without the use of fertility drugs, at least she never mentioned it. My point is that she carried on with a normal life, worked a demanding job and did not expect any favors or a TV show. I know I'm dating myself, but it's sad to see how people/the world has changed.

This morning after church we were treated to a huge box of home-made chocolate chip cookies, and another of baklava, from our adopted family, to say Thank You.

This was the FIRST time in all the years that we have been doing this (mostly for Christian families) that we have got a tangible thank you, and especially from people for whom spending money for ingredients would be a hardship.

Our family this year was Muslim, from a very poor country in Africa.

Events like this are the reason that Kate Gosselin makes me want to throw up.Her selfishness is beyond belief, and for her to REALLY be grateful for something and show it, would be completely out of character.

What is wrong with these people?

The children are not clowns who make birthday appearances with balloons and games. They are real children with school, other activities, friends, a mom and dad to spend share time with, and lives. Good lord.

I just looked at that person's tweets. Creepy. She/he/it signed on Dec. 2 apparently to specifically ask to meet Kate and kids. Only has 13 tweets.

Wow.

Her daughter's birthday should be filled with family, friends from her class at school, cake, happiness, laughs - not an ex-reality star's children who have no idea who the girl even is.

Is Kate still going to claim that they had perfectly normal childhoods, and were just "playing," only with a couple extra cameras round?

Because it's perfectly normal for 7 and 12 year olds to be asked to make an appearance at a 10-year-old stranger's birthday party. Happened to me at that age too.

On a happier note, wishing everyone a wonderful, blessed holiday and New Year.

Anybody have any interesting New Year's resolutions? :)

First of all, if he took money and you can't pay your bills, WHY are you on a talk-show crying about it instead of doing something about it????

&&&

What's even more INSANE? Kate admitted she took out money too! There was like two media outlets that reported this fact, we reported it, but the story was ever spun that JON took all the money when the judge ordered BOTH of them to put back what they took.

Maybe both of them were taking money so they could pay their bills, most people can understand that. Whatever, but I can't believe her nerve to be so hypocritical about it.

The count down is on... And although I've got a good handle on it, every moment counts and there still lots to do to make THE day 8-MAZING!

...... so now she's just randomly adding 8 into words, even when it makes no sense?? Eight-mazing sounds nothing like a-mazing.

Hmm. Um, okay, whatev8 Kate!

Dmasy said...

OT -- totally OT. I am in the kitchen. Part of the prep involved cleaning out the refrigerator to make room for the holiday dishes. Interior of the refrig sparkles and looks rather "staged"....makes me realize that there is something I will NEVER want. Even on a good day, I am not interested in one of the refrigerators with a glass, see-through door.

Mine just isn't a decorative item!

I think 8-mazing was a stretch and an epic fail.

She hasn't picked up on "iconic"yet, like everybody else in the world seems to have done.
Let's see if she tries after she reads this, which she no doubt will...

Kate seems to glom onto words like her 'typically' and 'yum' etc. I guess 'epic ' is it now. As for the adding '8' into everything, it's just silly- she's out of jr high. It's so funny she thinks she has the gift-o-gab and is well-spoken. She is really not good at speaking or writing English!

(This does not make her a bad person- just a figure of fun- it's the other evil events like child abuse and exploitation of her children that do, for the reader above who doesn't understand Kate or this blog)

Disillusioned #57 - I respectfully disagree with you. In your comment you stated that the children look happy, and I just haven't seen that. They rarely looked happy on Kate +8, they rarely looked happy in the pap photos. Sometimes they don't even look happy in the photos Kate posts. However, if they do smile in the photos Kate takes, it looks forced, and I believe she directs them to smile. On the shows, they rarely looked happy and the only info we get about them being happy, delighted, and squealing with joy, is from Kate.

The only time I have ever seen genuine smiles and happiness on the kids faces have been pap photos taken when they were with Jon, or when he picked them up at the bus stop, etc.

I just do not think, from her words in magazines, talk shows, and her own shows, that she is a good mom doing the best she can for those kids.

Leaving tomorrow to go to my daughter's will be back later in the week. Until then, I will not even think about Kate. I'll be celebrating with family AND friends. Can she say the same?

Looking forward to Kate's worst moments of 2012.

Enjoy!!!

All I have to say about Kate vs Honey Boo Boo.

See Kate! It's not about weight or wealth! It's about a personality that the greater community can identify with! Greater community = viewers!

Do you get it yet Kate?

Skeletally thin, ignoring your children, hating your ex-husband, being nasty to co-dancers and TV execs DOES NOT = viewers.

Honey, that's why you are out of a job ... and no one is knocking at your door.

I know you'll never get it ... but just wanted to do my part in trying to clue you in.

I remember when TLC used to air brilliant documentaries on things like the pyramids and Stonehenge ... I'm probably aging myself here but I swear I was addicted to those types of shows. America is tired of reality tv and wants stuff like that back.

Kate's only Plan B was to exploit her children on her own ... sans Jon. She never expected that not working out! She somehow thought her children would never grow up and people would never get tired of seeing the G8+Kate. Goes to show the woman has NEVER seen the world beyond the end of her own nose and IMO will never be able to.

I think quite a few on here are calling this -- Kate's encouraging the fans (even if she's drunk tweeting it's not excuse) is not going to end well. Is she supposed to bring the kids to the birthday party to entertain the 19-month-old as well...with what, Cookie Monster cupcakes and Sponge Bob pacifiers?

Hmm. I expect this type of behavior to escalate as she becomes less

More outrageous statements. Can you smell the desperation yet?

I loved those too. In fact, I'm going to watch something like that that I've dvr'd, called Crop Circles. I caught the very tail end of it when it was on before, and was intrigued bye the complexity of some of them. They're not man made, and I don't believe that space ships are doing them, so I'm interested in seeing what the show has to say about them.

I'll be around some in the morning...then it's off till Christmas.

So true. It did become the Kate show. Hence all the plastic surgery!

Did't Kate's deceased Grandfather that she thinks SO MUCH of ... ever tell her 'pretty is as pretty does?'

Every grandparent I had told me that at one time or another.

Fleecing The Sheeple said...

And here's Kate who, as Carrie Ann Inaba hilariously pointed out on DWTS, has no real talent or claim-to-fame whatsoever other than her kids (which is no reflection on her, but rather, on her fertility doctors) actually thinks she is famous for the long haul.

===============
Carrie Ann actually said that? Which week? I remember her saying that she's never seen anyone so unaware of herself as Kate, but not that she had no talent or claim to fame other than her kids. Can you link the YouTube video? I recall Len saying that she's no dancer, but that at least she gets out there and tries.

aggiemom09121416 said...

It's interesting Kate has memories of her grandparents.
I bet the 'littles' have ZERO memories of HER parents. I don't recall what yr Kate showed Jodi and Kevin the door, but maybe they have a few fuzzy memories of them.

Sad.

Geez, when they had the yard sale at the church, Kate tried to sell the twin's Christmas ornaments Jon's dad had given them. Her reason? They had glitter on them and were messy.
wtf?

Well, I spent the whole day baking and loved it. No complaining here. My brother came over with his wife, and my fantastic nephew and his girlfriend and we spent the evening just yucking it up. I am one of NINE...count them, NINE children. These are the moments that matter. The true love between family members is irreplaceable. I'm so thankful for my very large, very loving family.

My kids will all be over for Christmas brunch and dinner so I'm very excited and happy. It's going to be a wonderful day.

I just want to wish all of you a very, very Merry Christmas! I wish you love, peace and joy.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I'm not sure she said it herself but Carrie Ann agreed with another panelist that Kate was a "brood sow" and did not have any other reason for being famous than the kids.

I do remember this when they were talking about Kate:

"Um, um, um, um, what's her name?"

Baw-hahahahhaha! Classic!

She also said it was "bizarre" to talk to her. LOL.

She NAILED IT. Carrie Anne of all people NAILED IT. ANd here I assumed she was a narcissist herself. I don't think narcissists recognize it in others. She totally saw it.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

She also said Kate has an unawareness of herself she has never seen before.

Why would I want anyone to have a breakdown? A hint of remorse at all the things she has done that have put her on these lists might be nice.

*******

As long as Kate puts herself on Twitter, on talks on radio/tv shows or gives interviews, this will be her row to hoe, I fear.

What she can do is stop talking in the public arena. That would remove her as the butt of
jokes and mockery. It's her call. She's practically begging to get noticed and discussed.

If you care about her maybe you can get through to her that she is making herself a target - and not even a moving one.

I think part of it too is understanding just because you didn't get a response doesn't mean posts are not appreciated. I myself have spent most of the week out of town and have been able to check in to read once in awhile but certainly not comment much. It is unrealistic and frankly unfair to expect everyone to respond to every comment when people often have lives. If you post enough and say something worthwhile you will get responses eventually. Be patient.

Ironically Jenni the one complaining about cliques got upwards of 10-15 responses if I recall correctly. There were a lot. Even when she was upset and attacking people folks still chimed in to try to help her with books. That's not my definition of a clique.
