Discovery pulls 'American Guns' from line-up

The Discovery Channel announced yesterday that they've cancelled their successful reality series about a Colorado family that restores firearms. They also won't be showing any reruns. Other shows have delayed or pulled episodes, including TLC's new special "Best Funeral Ever," which was pushed back to January. Actually growing a heart, or just concerned about bad PR? Sadly, probably the latter.

In other news, it was heartwarming to see the Red Cross blankets providing their intended comfort to those who need it. Several people were spotted wrapped in the blankets attending a memorial service on Sunday in Newtown.

LovemyGrandsons,

What a beautiful poem; I was crying after the first line. Thank you for sharing. I hope the people of Newtown get a chance to read it, too and that it brings them some comfort. I know it did me.

LoveMyGrandsons said...

I agree, MJ; I teared up when I read it on the door and took it down long enough to make a copy. I hope that wherever this poem came from, the families of those children do get to see it and it will be bittersweet for them.

IDModo, what a touching story about your wonderful mother. Thank you for sharing what it means to be a really strong parent.

And no way could you ever be "as clueless as Kate". She's definitely one of a kind, and her enablers run a close second.

Any place that's FREE! Yes, ma'am. The WHOLE country loves Kate. That's why she has hundreds, if not thousands, of negative comments on various internet articles. They all love her, passionately, deeply, and without reservation. That's why networks are breaking down her door, drooling to sign her to another show.

Tweet is from one of the junior Milos. No surprise there.

As for me, and this is just me, I would never donate money having to do with anything Gosselin. I hear all your comments about the important thing is the charity gets the money and I agree we should all give as we are blessed. But the children need no more notoriety and Kate definitely doesn't need to have handed to her an opportunity to say, see, look how much I donated to different charities, taking all the glory for herself. I would never be party to her making herself look better than the piece of trash she is.

Gah, how gross to hear her twit about accepting gifts for her well off children instead of twitting that it was a nice thought the gifts were forwarded to those doing without because of the devastation caused by #SuperFunSandy, please send any further donations directly to Red Cross with our love. Nope, she'll continue to show her narcissistic, greedy, grasping, grifter self-centerness until she's blown the last chance ever to be thought of being worth the spit in a reporter's mouth. Why the hell she can't seem to learn that is better to give then receive even though TLC and Terri Irwin tried to get that through to her, as did the Red Cross and Coupon Cabin, it just refuses to take. Does she not see that those that give to others get more attention on the news, talk shows and other media then the greedy vain mother of 8 who had a lot of people fooled but only for a short time now the truly blind sheeple that continue to buy into the TLC myth are fewer and fewer. She's going to have hell to pay when those kids are no longer given material goods since they never got the maternal love and attention and instead only goods, yikes, hop, Jon, instilled some sort of balance into those 8. Cause Katie, you ran that gravy train right off the tracks and it ain't never coming back.
And my donations went out after my last payday in memory of my father, brother, uncle and nephew per usual. My causes run to orphan diseases, suicide prevention, and cancer. After reading about the debacle the Red Cross made of the blood supply during the early days of HIV and the enormous salaries their top dogs make I prefer to donate to the local charities in areas that suffered from disasters. It's really anger producing to again hear that FEMA once more is failing to assist the homeless due to the red tape and bureaucratic mish mash.
Seems like Kate they never learn either.

IDModo, I understand what you are saying about your mom. At this phase of my life I am essentially chairbound. When I do have a good day and go out, somebody always wants to "help" me by taking my arm or holding my purse. I have to do things myself. I learned that from my Dad who insisted on being as self-sufficient as possible no matter how hard it was because he
"had to do something". It was a valuable lesson. My mom had parkinson's disease and had a great deal of difficulty getting out of her big recliner. The doctor told them to get her a
lift chair. Dad said NO, not because of the cost but because a lift chair would not allow mom to even try to use her arms, steady herself and stand up using her own muscles. His policy worked and Mom remained mobile and able to use her arms for normal purposes until her last days in the hospital. She was so thankful to be able to walk and do things as long as she did, even as difficult as it was for her.

I also will not donate anything in the Gosselin name; the kids do not need their privacy violated and their mother needs no further notoriety. Her choices to accept gifts from strangers,and to keep her charity wallet zipped, well, those are her decisions and the less said publicly, the better. If she had any sense of propriety, she would stay away from the Twitter and no one would know anything. Her consuming need for attention is her damnation. And now, let us return to enjoying the season. Me, I'm on week 2 of cookie baking.

Your post re: the Patriot Act was so spot on and I was glad to read it. So many people do not realize how real the threat is - daily and what people like you (and bless your for it)and the intel community does to protect them. We only hear about failures or near misses. I never served in the military, but in a former life I did work on a classified defense contract. For 14 years. Most US citizens have no idea how many intelligence agencies we have, let alone their acronyms - but I know you do :) and how often they change their darn names. We called contacts "the field". "We are going the field" or "the field was coming for a meeting" all so spooky spooky. My job involved linguistics as well. I swear I could give Ken Jennings a run for the money on a Jeopardy category of Jane's Book of "fill in the blank" There were times of high stress (the like the annual release of every darn Jane's and finally I left. No longer wanted a "Need to Know". I guess I feel a sort of kindred spirit with you. Soar on beautiful butterfly!

The bigger the organization the more opportunities for issues especially when you are involved in public health. They just paid a big fine for compromised blood. This organization is responsible for a big portion of our blood supply and have a lot to worry about and organize. It's one of those areas where a few mistakes here and there simply aren't okay like it would be for others. All the more reason they do not have time to deal with shenanigans from Kate and one big reason I was so ticked off about that blanket thing.

Your guess is as good as mine. What's even more astounding is that the second the Red Cross said that was not okay, even though she did eventually take it down (though not from her own web site), it took her FOREVER to change it. There was an attitude about it like, whatever I'll get to it when I get to it. It was so disrespectful. All it did was continue the drama far longer than it should have and cause a charity to take time away from people in need to deal with her PR crap.

Read very carefully when you sign for surgery or admission to a hospital as they couch it carefully but they do say no promises we won't give you a deadly disease with your pint of red blood cells. I do admissions and it was once was a separate form and spelled out clearly that could happen but I noted a few years ago the forms were combined changed and no longer clear and concise. She definitely tries to make her kids sound younger than they area, by calling them "littles" and describing them as "squealing with delight."

Marie what's weird to me is how she now focuses much more on the twins, particularly Mady, than on the "littles". She still posts pictures of them and all that but most of her twitter psts that mention the kids seems to be about her older ones. This is notable to me because on the show, it was very much the opposite. Back then she placed way more focus on the little tups.

Wonder what changed?

So, you are sure they deserve that salary of $651,957 (FY ending 06/30/03 last date I could find for CEO salary) When they still can't manage to keep the blood supply safe and instead of giving the monies collected for their intended purposes but instead into their "war fund", no, I don't believe I want to pay them for that. Time and time again I read articles about how they collected 50 million for x and put out 10 of it to the people it was intended for and the rest went into the mystery fund/funds. Sorry, this is my hill, like heather's Monsanto is hers.
Red Cross is no friend of mine. They are first to run out and get their photo ops in a disaster but behind the scenes are politics as usual. Lizzie Dole used it as her stepping stone in hopes of a presidential bid. Anyway zipping my lips now, as I really don't want to argue as I know what I know, having been a volunteer for them when younger. And not going to change my opinion. The rest of the world can praise them to the moon and back, not me.

Many have speculated there was either an agreement or a court order that she tone down her discussion of the younger children on Twitter given their ages. Speaking of lies, I've been thinking about the tweet she made earlier today. Maybe the reason she SAYS doesn't know all her tweeties by name (to thank them *cough* personally) is because she didn't actually get very many surprises sent to her. It could be a ploy to actually get the ball rolling, to encourage them to ALL hurry up and send those gifts. If she doesn't name the tweeties more of them will want to jump on the Send Kate a Surprise Gift bandwagon competition.

She's probably feeling the crunch because there's only 4 grifting days left 'til Christmas.

It's well documented they've had their scandals, my thing is, for the amount of good this organization has done, literally saving millions of lives, I'm willing to forgive their few and far between missteps. I don't require my charities to be 100% perfect 100% of the time, much like I don't expect the same of people. I do like to see the make changes when they screw up, which they do. It's not like they are a charity of 10 people screwing up every other day and should be shut down. They are a huge charity of literally thousands screwing up once in a blue moon.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Nah, that still wouldn't make her lovable to me, only that she finally paid back what she never should have taken to start with. I still find it strange the state paid for a nurse to be essentially a babysitter for pretty healthy sextuplets. Neb treatments aren't that big of an issue and any of the volunteers could have handled them, as I'm sure many of them had children with asthma or CF and would be able to put the med and water in the well, direct the steam towards the infants face. Do all high order multiples get a full time nurse for the first year? I know almost all premies get medicaid regardless of parental income (or they do here.) I don't think it's for life just the first part due to the NICU bills being astronomical. My sister worked in billing so I can't imagine too many folks having the half million or so that a stay in NICU runs into.

Are they saying if they live in TX, LA, MI, MA, ME or where ever that the state they reside in loves Kate and her 8? Have they done polls to back those statements up? 314 million live in the USA and her highest ratings never topped 11 million so I can't imagine most people would have a clue who she is, never mind "love" her.

Stupid is an understatement. They really are as clueless and blind to reality as their idle idol. She'd need a time machine and a personality transplant to fix all the things that make me feel she's not a fit mother, friend, daughter, sister, wife and so on.

Lindsay's narcissism is similar to Kate's even though Lindsay has talent. What good is her talent if she's sitting in jail. I tend to feel more sympathy for Lindsay though because clearly her parents are such screw ups. I know she's an adult now and responsible for herself but come on her mom is Dina!!

Good article about her plea for extended nursing care for the babies...

Part I:

"When Kate Gosselin finally picks up the phone on the 10th ring, she sounds a little frazzled, and who can blame her?

From the background come the cries, shrieks and whoops of babies. Six of them, to be exact.

The Berks County woman once feared she was unable to conceive. Today, thanks to fertility drugs, she has more children than she and her husband, Jonathan, know what to do with. Those would be twin 4-year-old girls followed by the sextuplets, who turned 1 on May 10.

Gosselin's supercharged fertility is miraculous in its own right, a testament to the wonders - and pitfalls - of modern medicine. She has rocketed into the public spotlight, however, not for her baby-making prowess but for her insistence that she cannot mother alone.

The harried mom wants help - and she wants taxpayers to pick up the tab.

Because the fragile babies were born prematurely, Medicaid paid to provide a skilled home nurse 30 hours a week. But the babies are now robust, and Medicaid pulled the plug this month on paying for the nurse the Gosselins have come to rely on as "a second mommy."

Special circumstances

The couple, who live in Wyomissing, have appealed that ruling, and on Thursday the mother will argue that her special circumstances - eight little ones and a husband who is gone 12 hours a day for his state-government job 90 minutes away in Harrisburg - merit taxpayer help. The state continues to pay for nurse Angie Krall while the appeal is pending.

"We did not ask for sextuplets. We wanted one last baby," Gosselin tells me, quickly adding that she loves all six beyond words. "We took the risk and we lost."

Parent In Lancaster County said...

Part II:

"As you might imagine, her request has not gone over well. Angry letters have popped up in newspapers across Pennsylvania. Gosselin, a registered nurse, knew the risks of taking fertility drugs. Even after delivering twins on the first go-round, she rolled the dice again. And now she wants the state to pay for her gamble?

"People are very harsh to us, and I understand that," she says. "But until you walk exactly in my shoes and know my day-to-day life, it is very difficult to imagine..."

I want to sympathize with her. Every parent knows how demanding and exhausting even one baby can be. But the more she talks, the more I find her to be inflexible.

I agree with her that she can't do it alone, but I ask why she needs an expensive skilled nurse instead of a basic child-care helper. Her only explanation is that she and the children have bonded with their nurse, and she'd hate to change now. She concedes the children no longer require specialized nursing care, and adds, "On Jon's income, we couldn't afford to pay someone even $6 an hour."

Paying for child care?

And that leads to another question. If money is so tight, why doesn't she return to work and enroll the children in day care? Nope. The family minivan cannot carry all eight children in one trip, and the couple can't afford a bigger van, she says. Besides, "I would be taking my paycheck and giving it to the day care." Welcome to the world of working parents.

She says family members live too far away or are too busy to help, and the stream of volunteers that came in the early months compromised the family's privacy. "There is no one," she says definitively. "I have racked my brain."

I have one other idea for her. The couple's house has about $100,000 of equity in it, she has estimated. Why don't they take out a loan to pay for the nurse themselves, just as parents do to pay for tuition or orthodontics? She doesn't want to do that, either.

She promises she wants Medicaid to pay for the nurse for only one more year, and by then the couple will be able to handle their brood on their own.

Obviously, society has a vested interest in making sure these eight children - all children - are properly nurtured. The question is whether taxpayers should be expected to take on a couple's burden. And if so, which couples, and for how long?

There are no easy answers, only an unsettling awareness that parenting, with all its joys and challenges, belongs ultimately to parents."

I had an elderly relative who used to dab the inside of her nose with a Q-tip dipped in vodka every morning...she said it kept the germs out. lol.
There must have something to it, I can't remember her ever being sick and she lived to a ripe old age.

I believe your relative was on to something. Though the q-tip dab up the nose does seem a tad wasteful of good vodka, no? My grandmother would close her store at 10:00 pm, sweep, clean the slicer head to the livingroom to drink a beer, read her gothic romance novel and watch Johnny Carson before heading up to bed. She was very rarely ill and lived into her late eighties. I doubt it was the gothic romance novel. But then again...No, I'm guessing the beer....LOL

Red Cross misuse of funds for Haiti sparks protest in 12 U. S. cities ...

http://www.contributemedia.com/trends_details.php?id=107
December 19, 2012

After 9/11, the situation only worsened. The organization had collected too much blood while valuable red cell supplies went unused. The Red Cross also seemed to have more money than necessary. Americans making donations after 9/11 thought, naturally enough, that their money would go to victims of the attacks. Instead, it turned out, the Red Cross routinely set aside money from big disasters in case of future little ones—money for use by local chapters to finance their many smaller needs.
the nearly $2 billion raised for Katrina victims was being targeted appropriately and used well. Once again, hints of poor accountability, impropriety, and even criminal conduct emerged.
http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/chris/2005/09/05/red_cross_ceo_pulled_down_651957_salary_bush_strafes_new_orleans.htm

The Red Cross, under the Liberty Fund, collected $564 million in donations after 9/11. Months after the event, the Red Cross had distributed only $154 million. The Red Cross' explanation for keeping the majority of the money was that it would be used to help 'fight the war on terror'. To the victims, this meant that the money was going towards bombing broken backed third world countries like Afghanistan and setting up surveillance cameras and expanding the police state in US cities, and not towards helping them rebuild their lives.
After the devastating San Francisco earthquake in 1989, the Red Cross passed on only $10 million of the $50 million that had been raised, and banked the rest.
Similar donations after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the Red River flooding in 1997 were also greedily withheld.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-516700.html
The American Red Cross may be expert at responding to public disasters, but for years it has failed to get a grip on financial disasters at its local chapters.

Charity ripoffs are the latest scandal affecting the country and it’s a problem that doesn’t seem to be stopping. For victims of Hurricane Katrina alone, Americans gave $1.85 billion in aid, gave over half-a-million dollars to our charity in Mississippi. And after the tsunami struck Southeast Asia, our government pledged nearly $900 million dollars, more than any other nation, and donations from Americans reached $1.5 billion.
Now, more people are learning of scams and the ripoffs that are preventing the money that Americans donated from going to the victims who so desperately need it.

But, don't you get it? Try to think like a narcissist like KG. In her mind there's no conflict at all between her statement that "the stream of volunteers compromised the family's privacy" and the invasive exploitative filming of the children. See, that's because the TLC filming violated the privacy of the KIDS, while the volunteers in the house violated HER privacy. They were there too much, at times she could not control, and they would come to learn too much about HER. But she had NO problem at all with the privacy of the KIDS being violated by the entire world watching their most private moments on national television. Not to mention, she got paid big bucks to sell them out.

If there is concern where money is really going during a disaster, which becomes a concern for any charity big or small, honestly I really believe a sure-fire way to make sure your money goes to people directly in disasters is to support local businesses. That helps everyone and it's hard for them to "misappropriate" when all you are doing is buying clothes or food or other goods from a business. It's a simple way to ensure your giving is DIRECT.

Then it happened again. Last November, the board forced out newly appointed CEO Mark W. Everson, again amid controversy. Everson, the former IRS Commissioner, was hired in May 2007—then sacked some six months later amid scandal surrounding an extra-marital affair with a local chapter leader. On April 8, *2008* the ARC appointed its seventh president and chief executive since 2002, Gail J. McGovern, a professor at the Harvard Business School.
...
A History of Woes

To be sure, the American Red Cross has been dogged by controversy, even before 9/11. Healy, for example, had ample evidence that the nonprofit was seriously ailing long before the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center: a million dollars had been stolen in a New Jersey chapter, and still the chapter wanted to keep the person employed. An audit in Boston noted that money the ARC had been given there was not easily traceable. Local chapters from Boise to Buffalo, when they needed cash, had been dipping into a national disaster fund thousands of times a year, collectively, though most disasters were house fires, not catastrophic tragedies. Healy also had struggled, without success, to free the organization from a cloud of repeated violations of blood safety rules—some so serious that the Food and Drug Administration, back then as it is doing now, sought to levy millions of dollars in fines.

This is everything with her. She needs to just admit she wants a VIP lifestyle and doesn't want to pay for it. It's not about filming, or missing the crew, or trips, or experiences. It is about a VIP life funded by others. Just ADMIT IT.

The Red Cross is involved in literally hundreds and hundreds of charitable acts literally every HOUR. Every day people give blood, they collect hundreds of thousands every week, every day they show up at house fires, power outages, any kind of disaster from the very small you never hear about, to the bigger ones, across the country and worldwide. Every day they are providing CPR courses, baby-sitting courses, first aid courses. They are mostly made up of thousands upon thousands of volunteers, people like you and me, who have never once done anything wrong in their name but have done countless good things and brought relief to millions.

It IS once in a blue moon they screw up when you look at the hundreds upon hundreds of charitable acts they do every day around the world. Perhaps less than even 1% of what they have ever done has raised any questions, when you look at the big picture.

yes the local volunteers do respond to many disasters, I did volunteer with them and we were often standing awaiting for some clue on what we were to do. Yeah, lets hand out blankets to people at a memorial service because that's useful. But not really. Give out coffee. Man phones and give out name to local services that may help you, not necessarily give Red Cross fund.
The Red Cross is not the ones collecting blood the volunteers and the few poorly paid nurses are doing that. Yes, the local chapter may help pass out the information on who is willing to let the RC set up a site. But what good is collecting blood when they continue to put bad blood into circulation. The very reason that the Canadian Red Cross is no longer in charge of their blood supply.
If the Red Cross fails to uphold their part of the deal and supply the victims of disaster with funding from all the donations they collected that was to go to that group of people and provide safe blood. Well, I'm not going to feel all that grateful towards them.

Some more scrutiny of the Red Cross is beginning to take place. As Richard Walden, of Operation USA, wrote in the Los Angeles Times, "Its fundraising vastly outruns its programs because it does very little or nothing to rescue survivors, provide direct medical care or rebuild houses."

I wonder if the Red Cross is suffering from two many pots on the stove. They are involved in so many different things they seem unable to do all of them really well. For a good review of how mental care has affected mass shootings see:

http://www.cchrint.org/2012/07/20/the-aurora-colorado-tragedy-another-senseless-shooting-another-psychotropic-drug/

Excerpt:

Fact: At least fourteen recent school shootings were committed by those taking or withdrawing from psychiatric drugs resulting in 109 wounded and 58 killed (in other school shootings, information about their drug use was never made public—neither confirming or refuting if they were under the influence of prescribed drugs.)

Fact: Between 2004 and 2011, there have been over 11,000 reports to the U.S. FDA’s MedWatch system of psychiatric drug side effects related to violence. These include 300 cases of homicide, nearly 3,000 cases of mania and over 7,000 cases of aggression. Note: By the FDA’s own admission, only 1-10% of side effects are ever reported to the FDA, so the actual number of side effects occurring are most certainly higher.

Nearly every mass school shooting has involved a minor under the influence of psychiatric drugs, as well as many other highly cited cases ...

My comment:

Of the 14 cases this article covers, all the shooters WERE on medication. Half were under either a psychiatrist or psychologist care. As far as the other half, who was writing THOSE prescriptions??

The safety of the patients (and consequently those around the patients) didn't matter, because mental health care in this country is prescription driven. Psychiatrists used to spend a minimum of 20 minutes with a patient before writing a prescription. today the average is 5 minutes. How can you fully assess someone without any quantitative testing in 5 minutes. Does that make sense? Does that sound safe for the patient?

We need BETTER mental health care, NOT more. the drugs are dangerous, barely tested in human trials (some are only tested 4 weeks, phase III before they are approved,and I spent more time than that researching a new fridge!!)

The APA and Big Pharma welcome this discussion because it means more diagnoses and more drug prescriptions, which will not solve the problem. Psychiatric drugs are very dangerous, often prescribed off label and by physicians that aren;t aware of the side effects. It's a horrible situation. So we can argue about mental health until the cows come how, but unless Big Pharma backs off and starts making drugs that help people, it really isn;t going to matter.

And a footnote:

The field of psychiatry as we know it today was founded on the principle of medical billing, not science. They needed solid "diagnoses" to get billing codes to receive payment, so they started making up diseases so codes could be assigned for billing. That's how the DSM started. True story, but don't take my word for it, research it on your own.

The expired "ban" on assault rifles was a ban on their manufacture, and was riddled with loopholes. No wonder it wasn't as effective as we would've liked!

I really liked this blog entry, "Newtown and What We Can Do Now." Sensible, with a variety of options, for those who want to do SOMETHING, but don't know WHAT, who want to do something NOW, but don't know HOW. Excerpt from http://johnshore.com/2012/12/16/newton-and-what-we-can-do-now/

Not much could more perfectly capture everything that’s mind-bogglingly ludicrous about the American gun business than this video, featuring two painfully immature boys masquerading as adults. “Everybody needs some kind of combat weapon,” says one of the boys somberly. “You could buy a crate of these [high-powered rifles], and about five crates of ammo, for about two thousand dollars,” says the other. “That’s a real good cheap way to arm ten men … you can be very deadly in large numbers. You can use this gun to kill elk, bear, moose, deer, two-legged game of all sorts if you need to. They excel at that.”
Video link:

http://youtu.be/-CoIhl3puuI

It’s supposed to be cute, the way the one guy slips in the aside about using guns to kill people instead of moose and deer.

Did you laugh when he said? Did you think that was funny?

In an average year roughly one hundred thousand Americans are killed or wounded with guns. One in three Americans know someone who has been shot.

Not that at this point we need statistics to prove to us that we have a problem in this country with too many guns being too easily obtained by too many people. But what to do about that problem? [Sensible ideas at this link: http://johnshore.com/2012/12/16/newton-and-what-we-can-do-now/ ]

My uncle was in the army during the blitzing of England..had an 8 inch scar on his face from it. Anyway, he hated the Red Cross, as he remembered the relief stations they had for the servicemen, and them charging a dime for a cup of coffee. A dime was a lot back then.

Yes, the Red Cross does a good job with our blood supply, but with the amount they charge for each unit, it's like getting liquid gold!

Other than her being in a manic stage of bipolar episode? I saw that too, and it seemed obvious that it was a set-up due to the twitter that claimed everyone in PA loved KK....hotly denied by other twitter comment. Suddenly, people from a bunch of states loved her, and she LOVED THEM TOO!!!

Tucker's Mom, yeah it's pretty weird isn't it? Funny how she comes across as so giddy and animated on twitter, yet in television interviews and on her show she has the personality of a wet mop.

By the way, I cringe every time she tells her tweeties that she loves them. She can express deep appreciation and warmth without using the word "love". She can say "you guys are the best and I'm so lucky to have your support." With fans as obsessive as hers, she should know that saying she loves them will feed into their delusions of having a real relationship with her.

Not to mention she's flat-out lying (what else is new). It's simply not possible to love people you've never met and have no intention of ever meeting. She does not "love" them, she loved that they kiss her ass and let her get away with everything.

My comment:
Of the 14 cases this article covers, all the shooters WERE on medication. Half were under either a psychiatrist or psychologist care. As far as the other half, who was writing THOSE prescriptions??''
~~~~~~~~~~
heather, I agree that we need better health care, and you've made some good points concerning drugs, and the pharmaceutical companies. Then you lost me, or maybe I lost you?
When I talk about better health care, as it relates to the conversation concerning the shootings and the mental health of the killer, I am talking about something different than (I think) you are talking about.
Many parents seek help with their child that is having obvious mental problems, and are unable to get them into treatment, because the laws are perceived to not allow commitment for treatment until the child does something illegal. IF they can be hospitalized, the insurance quickly runs out.
I've talked to teachers, who say they can point to certain children in their classes, and say that one and that one and that one needs help. Parents often know very early in the life of their child that there is something 'off' with their child. IF the children were treated THEN, there is hope that they could go on to lead productive lives, and not become a mass murderer.
Back to your point.....the reason nearly every mass school shooter is under the influence of psychiatric drugs is because they are being treated for mental illness. Not what I THINK you are saying.
I'm not certain I'm saying exactly what I mean. Off to make some coffee.
I THINK that I corrected all the typos!!
I'm sorry Kate, I misjudged you. I assumed you had, at the very least, a smidgen of class and humility left. Yesterday, with your acceptance of unneeded gifts from your fans and your tacky tweet about it, I was proven quite wrong.
But here's a thought: how about you be "big enough" to apologize to Jon for misjudging him throughout your entire marriage? You go pass on the love, starting with the first person you ever betrayed and work your way up. Could take a damn long time.
Kate started her twitter day by retweeting the following platitudes:
We forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but by recognizing and appreciating what we do have.
Life Tools‏@LifeTools
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, just be afraid of not learning from them.
iAm Wise‏@iAmTheWiseOne
You cannot let where you start define where you will end up.
iAm Wise‏@iAmTheWiseOne
It's your life. Don't let others tell you how to live it.
Sure sounds like she got some bad news or something didn't go her way. Then she starts with all the retweets about how people love her, which of course, prompts more people to tweet how much they love her.
She's needing to feel the "love" right now.
Hehe I ask because when I first got on last night, my sister saw the animated picture at the very top as she was walking by and she was like "Oh my God what IS that?" I just started laughing and explained. She just rolled her eyes and said that Kate's a joke.
But I was curious, do your family members/friends/etc know that you run this blog? I ask because I imagine running this website takes up such time, and there's another blog I read that reviews and snarks on an old cheesy television show, and the admin (who posts under a pseudoname) said his original plan was to keep his project a secret from the people in his life for security purposes, but now a few of his family members and friends know and even offer to help. Lol thanks Admin.
When I actually take the time to think about this saga, it's really incredible. Think back to 2005. Most people saw Kate as this endearing, shleppy (in a cute way) overly organized mother who had a cute, bicker-filled relationship with a passive but hardworking husband, and who had a lot on her plate. For the most part, people respected her and wanted to support her in any way they could.
Fast forward to today. About 90 percent of the public (per her own admission) really does think of her as, not to be unkind, but a joke, and a famewhore who desperately pimps out her kids and is clinging for dear life onto a desperate dream of being a celebrity. The remaining people, for the most part, idolize her and think she is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's just weird how unbelievably polarizing she became and how she has ruined her own reputation.
Picture the way she acted in the Kate Plus 8 episode at the Big Apple, with her cleavage bearing tops and six-inch heels, running around with ice cream dripping down her arm, screeching like a banshee. Could you have pictured the woman who you were introduced to in the Surviving Twins and Sextuplets, behaving that way???
I think back then she was harsh and controlling and bitchy, but she did seem more human. She is the poster child for what fame, or an all-consuming desire for fame, can do to a person.
It's very surreal.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Doesn't it ever make her uncomfortable to ask for all the free crap she does, or does she really just not give a crap? I'm uncomfortable when someone even offers to pay for lunch. I'd rather pay for it or go dutch. I can't imagine phoning up Scott and asking him for a trip to Portugal on his dime.
Ladies, this is just a general question out of curiosity: do the people in your life know that you post on this blog?
~~~~~~~~
The people in my life know that I post on blogs, but only my oldest knows I post on a blog that has anything to do with KK. For years, my family teased me about posting on Soap Opera fan sites. In fact, I'm looking at two little figurines that show skeletons sitting in chairs at their computers that were joke stocking stuffers!! I got everyone to leave me alone by asking them if they'd rather I sit in bars (as I did for a period of time in my life) or sit in front of a computer. They all chose the computer!

I belong to an email group of women I got to 'know' on a soap board...the same way we are getting to know each other here. My family knows the names of all the women, their husbands, what their kids do, and so on...because we've been emailing for almost 15 years. They are a very interesting group, and I talk to my friends/family about them...as most people talk to others about interesting things someone in their life said/did. However, the women in my email group don't know I post on this blog, and I doubt I'll tell them, because the few times KK has come up, they react with such contempt that I just don't think it would be worth explaining. In any case, much like this blog, we have much more to talk about than KK!

For a while, my oldest worried that being on the computer so much was ''isolating you'', but she feels differently now. She once said that I am ''three degrees of separation from just about any news item or place.'' She and her boy friend at the time were once in another state, had some problems that they couldn't solve w/o the help of someone local, so she called me, asking if ''any of your email ladies live here.'' I emailed, and one had a daughter there, who called my daughter and helped solve the problem!! My computer use was forever vindicated in her eyes!!

Good grief! I've gone on and on, haven't I? I think I may have had a little too much coffee!

I hope she doesn't get an "I LOVE YOU" twitter shout out from New Zealand. Remember what a bratty a**hole she was to poor Brad, who was just trying to do his job and help her? If they would support her after she treated one of their finest employees like crap, I wouldn't even know what to say.

And for the sheeple reading, yes I know that she was "terrified" over the Sky Jump, and I don't care. That is NO excuse to be that rude to another human being and not even apologize afterward. Nor is the "stress" she felt on the RV trip.

For a station that's supposed to be "The Learning Channel", all I ever learned from that show is that Kate is a nightmare and that a "trip" can also be defined as "a chance to spread your toxic poison to yet another formerly proud part of the world".

Agree. I guess we don't know if Kate ever reached out and made amends with Brad. That said, no tv crew, camera or money riding on show drama could have got me on that ledge or got me to jump.
I probably would have been difficult too, because I would not want to go up there! And hey, I'm OK with it, I don't feel defeated or less than if I don't jump. I know me and I'm OK with me.
Kate was very much in the throws of "can do Kate", another fabrication for the sake of re-branding her image.

Tuckers Mom, As of the couch interview for that episode, she had not apologized to Brad yet and said that she still had his business card and needed to do that. After time has gone by and she's already laughed about it on her TV show, what good is an apology? In my opinion, she should have apologized before she left the country.

And yes, if you are so terrified that you are being outwardly rude and in complete hysterics, jumping off of the Sky Tower is probably not for you, and thats fine. I am not one who feels that EVERY fear needs to be conquered. Things that everybody has to deal with in every day life, such as, I don't know, cars or walking outside your house or even dogs, I agree people afflicted with those fears should try to conquer them, because the are going to come across those things constantly.

But if she was that damn out-of-her-mind scared of jumping, she shouldn't have done it. She should have thought "hey at least I tried" and let the moment belong to her daughters. Especially because, collapsing in a ball and sobbing so hard that your 6-year-olds have to comfort you afterward, is not what I call conquering a fear. It's called milking it.

@AngieThibs ohhh you know my kids have Paris on the top of their list! :)

Oh, geez...here we go again. Make it happen, Kate. ALL 8 and 12 year olds NEED to see Paris, especially since it's on the top of their list. Immediately!

Bipolar, in a manic phase maybe? Sources said in the book thats what she has and I'm believing it more the more I am recognizing what seem like manic/depressive episodes.

Hope that none of her 8 kids ends up having to deal with that. It can be genetic however.....

Kate will never ever give Jon credit for be a good dad.
~~~~~~~~~~
I agree that KK will never Jon credit for being a good dad, or for anything at all!
IF the cartoon was about KK and the Gosselin children, AND included Jon, with Jon ONLY having complete veto power over the cartoon content, that might not be a bad idea. IF the money were divided by 9, with the children's deposited in an irrevocable trust...where it would be impossible for KK to get her hands on one penny other than her own salary! It would be a way for KK and Jon to have money coming in without actually having the children in front of a camera. I think the kids are too old for it to happen now...maybe when they were younger. What do you think?
Pink, you too are a very special poster. Thank you for your kind wishes, right back at you. I hope your beloved Oreo is doing wonderfully.
Kate, you and your kids are not going to Paris, get over it.
It is sickening how she dubs everything "Kate" as in her recipes of canned beans and canned mushrooms, "Kate" to-do lists, the words she makes up ( snarffle) etc. She has such an inflated ego...btw wasn't she gonna run for President!!
Formally Duped, if Kate ever ran for president, forget about what the Mayans said.... THAT would be the end of the world!
I think she's already a cartoon of a human. Animation isn't going to make that any better.
Working Woman, my family knows I come here to read and post. Initially, they would say "are you reading that Kate blog again?" and I would feel somewhat guilty. After dinner, I would sit at the computer (which is in our kitchen and everyone can see me) and read away. There was no hiding! But like others have said before, you become almost addicted to following that twit and all the stupid stuff she does. For me, it's cheap entertainment and it's not hurting anyone. Some people buy rag mags and watch rag mag shows, for now I choose this little vice. Plus people here are nice and you can feel the love.......oh, and I have also had my family watch Admin's pics and that has been an amazing discovery. I wouldn't have known about it otherwise!! Thanks Admin.
Is it my imagination, or is Kate losing followers? I swear that when I looked at her twitter this morning she had roughly 124,140 followers--now she has 124,100. In the last ten minutes, she has lost 8 followers.
It's really weird.
Pink, how is Oreo doing? PJ had a seizure a few days ago but they bounce right back and all is well. I hope Oreo hasn't had any and is finer than frog hair!
************************************************
Hey Pj's momma :o)
Oreo is doing just fine- finer than frog hair (hehehehe). Thanks for asking. I'm glad to hear Pj is doing well too :o)
How often does Pj have seizures?
I have to call the veterinarian everytime Oreo has a seizure to document his case- I guess to see if he will need to go on medication?
So far, Oreo experiences Epileptic seizures once a month.
Have a good day, Pj's momma :o)
Administrator, PT Barnum/TLC has a show called, "Best Funeral Ever"?
Now, if that doesn't take the cake, I don't know what will.
Weird, weird, weird- and WTH do they feel the need to want to air such a show?
PJ's momma said...
Hiya, Pink. PJ's vary. He has gone 9 months without one and then had them a couple days in a row. Generally about every 6-8 weeks though, on meds. I would write it on your calendar too, so you can keep track. PJ always has them in the middle of the night, and usually after something stressful that day. This little devil is apparently quite sensitive. Such as coming home after staying with the petsitter, going to the vet, having lots of company, etc.
If it's just once a month or so, I probably wouldn't put him on meds, especially phenobarbitol. This little dude's liver enzymes steadily crept to a dangerous level - but were down to normal levels a few weeks after being weaned off pheno. I actually think he could be med-free but am not willing to wean him off and risk it.
You have a good day too!
Hugs and tugs,
PJ and Momma
What? Did Milo miss the entire love tweeting event? This doesn't sound like a positive tweet at all. Whether she's ever on TV again or not? But, but, but...what about all the platitudes, never give up, you have so much to offer, networks will beat down your door, etc. etc.?
I'm sure that Kate is comforted, knowing that Milo will still love her regardless. Milo's love will pay the bills. No need for a television show.
Since the difference between morose and manic happened so quickly, I am wondering if KK has decided to go on what we called in the 'olden days' a ''speed diet''. I know that manic phase of bipolar is most likely correct, but still........
So yes I think she is losing followers.
No, she never reached 125,000 followers. That one guy keeps showing up with his "let's get Kate to 125,000 followers by Christmas" tweets.
Funny too, that's about the only time he ever tweets her--when she's getting close to another "landmark" number of followers.
I just rechecked Kate's tweets. Over 50 tweets/retweets between 7:30 and 9:30, and then 40 tweets/retweets between 11:15 and 11:50. She took an hour an forty-five minute break, and started all over again. Maybe she's trying to set a Guiness World record for most tweets in the shortest amount of time.
Now that's what I call "working your fingers to the bone"!!
Oh, and her twitter followers just went down to 124,093.
Since Kate herself is so boring, thought I would ask some fun questions.
Here are a couple of neat poll, if you wish to answer (and feel free to explain):
1. Who do you think loves Kate more?
A. Milo or
B. Kate
2. If you had the power to make one of these catastrophes stop, would you choose for
A. The fans to stop sending Kate gifts
B. Kate to stop throwing Jon under the bus
C. Trolls to stop coming on this blog
3. Who did you sympathize the most with while watching Kate's show?
A. Kevin and Jodi
B. Shoka and Nala
C. Beth
4. You have to meet Kate alone in person and have to say exactly 10 words to her. No more, no less. About anything. Your words are...
Interested to hear your thoughts!
Oh good! Thank you for that information. (The ''good'' is because I'm happy there is a reasonable explanation for the rapid change in behavior, rather than the one I was concerned about!!)
Well, this is a throwback, but Kate's manic "I LOVE YOU'S" remind me of the movie 4 Weddings and a Funeral.
The first wedding ends with the bride a tad tipsy, and she walks up to people she doesn't know and tells them, very sincerely, "I love you! and I love you too! I really love you!"
