Ron Howard: Andy Griffith believed in 'respect'

Ron Howard, one of Hollywood's greatest child actor success stories, wrote a moving tribute to his co-star and T.V. dad Andy Griffith, who passed away today in North Carolina at age 86. Said Howard: "Respect. At every turn he demonstrated his honest respect for people and he never seemed to expect theirs in return, but wanted to earn it."

Perhaps the respect Ron Howard felt on set, even at age seven, played a major role in Howard turning out so well. (Howard also credits good parenting: "I always felt loved. I never felt that my parents' love or affection depended in any way, shape, or form on how I was doing at the set.") Ron also was commited to giving his own child, Bryce, born in 1981, a normal childhood. Said Bryce of her growing up years: "I feel like I almost didn't grow up in the business, because my parents worked so hard at sheltering us from that. I was raised in Connecticut. And I honestly wasn't aware that my dad was a celebrity until I moved to Los Angeles a year ago."

You did right by the child on your set--rest in peace now, Andy.

Although the Stone House can be rented at other times Jon did not rent it for yesterday. There was the annual parade in Wyomissing (shown on one of their episodes) and after the parade they have activities at the Stone House also located in Wyomissing. I did not get there myself but according to the newspaper it was a big success despite the heat. I bet the kids had a great time.

This is an article from the local newspaper:

How could anyone in their right mind believe that she is getting new followers at a constant rate? I know it is not true but it still drives me crazy! Why can't she just quietly go away?

I'm glad the kids had fun. It's seems that every time they are out in public with him someone mentions that they look like they are having a blast! I'm still waiting to hear someone say that about her. Weren't the pictures of them at the marathon with her not happy ones?

I think she likes it when they are with Jon ! I don't think she misses them at all!

Where was she last night? I very much doubt she was at home, I'm older then her and I wanted to be out watching the fireworks , instead I was stuck at home watching them on TV!
Yea , she was alone at home last night and I was born yesterday!!
You might ask why I care what she does and it's because I want her exposed for all the lies she has said all through the years. That she's with Steve and that she was the one who destroyed two families!

I would rather see pictures of her out and about with Steve than of the kids out on their fun outing!

Mine has a computer touch panel vs a screen--not as high tech as the newer ones. We're trying to decide if we want to bite the bullet. With this heat, I'd hate to be schlepping my laundry to the laundromat for a couple weeks! Or, pay through the nose for immediate delivery.
Berks, it is so hot here today. My dogs can only go out for a couple minutes at a time.
DH and I have tickets to the Nats game tonight but I don't think I can handle the heat. I got these ticks a couple weeks ago on Groupon or the like and they are such a good deal. Good seats for $25 and that includes $10 credit for food!
I wish we'd get a quick storm or two to drop the temps.

Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and good wishes for my friend who was in the car crash. He had surgery yesterday to begin to repair some fractures, and he will have more surgery next week. They are closely monitoring his head injuries, but his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious, which is very encouraging.

Thank you, again. I really appreciate being able to share some troubles and ask for support on this blog. You are all very special.

I have the old-fashioned, top-loading washer. No computer, just a hot/warm/cold selector and a delicate/regular/super wash. It's fifteen years old, never had a repair. I'd like a new one, but I figure that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It does what it's supposed to do -- washes the clothes, and does a fine job doing it! That said, now watch it give a dying gasp in the near future!

I've also blocked probably well over a hundred when I first started tweeting. They were just random people. Some were companies. I just got tired of clicking on them and hitting Block. I have no idea why they chose to follow me. Some are very random.

Some people have their twitter set to automatically follow someone that tweets one of their "key words.". I'm not sure how they set that up. Some are spam accounts.

I'd say the majority of Kate's followers are not actually fans.

AMEN! I have one too, it is 19 years old. Every couple of years some little plastic part wears out, the first time we had a repair person out who showed us what to do. Now we can tip the sloppy thing on it's side and replace that $2.00 part on our own in just a few minutes. My daughter has been through 3 of those expensive computerized things in the 19 years I have had this one.

I saw one a few years ago, that you can program to soak, pre-rinse, wash, AND THEN DRY all in the same machine with just a few buttons to push. Imagine coming home from work and having all that done! Still, I wont give up this old faithful jobber until I dont have any other choice.

I will never get one with a computerized settings panel again- if they still make them! Trying to get as much mileage as possible before getting a new one...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I actually had a Sears repairman tell me that alot of work went into switching as many appliances over to control panels as possible. Because they are so expensive to repair, people tend to just replace them. After a few break so easy, you're more inclined to buy the extended warranty that you used to usually decline. Win-win for them... lose-lose for us.
My very first plain jane washer lasted for 18 years. Not good for the repairman business, not to mention the old simple machine design made it easy for the handy and mechanically inclined to fix themselves if something did go wrong. I now have a 4 yr. old Whirlpool sport duet frontloader washer/dryer combo (just the one set;) So far so good, but I was getting an error code a few weeks ago about poor draining. My oldest DS went online, found a video on YouTube of someone showing where a secret drain plug was and how to remove it and clean it. This was not in the manual. The manual suggested when you get the poor draining code to call a repairman. DS cleaned it out in 10 minutes.
They don't make stuff like they used to because it wasn't as profitable as the oh so fragile and delicate crap they make now :(
As Wayward pointed out, she's completely incapable of multi-tasking and decision making. She can't keep track of her kids without having a melt down. So -- the kids suffer. I'm happy to hear that the kids got to go with Jon and have normal, mediocre FUN! I hope that happens more and more frequently.
Sheeple is right, you know. We have learned a lot from Kate. We have learned how not to treat our children, how not to alienate our spouse, friends and family, how lies will always be uncovered and we will be called out on them, and how material possessions are not important in our lives, nor are they needed to make happy memories. We have learned the importance of a strong work ethic and setting an example to our children by not expecting gifts to be thrown our way through grifting.
Kate is a leader in this respect. We watch her moves, reads her tweets and she leads us to become the antithesis of what she is. Twitter has been her downfall. We have learned so much more about her because of it. Twitter has been one huge mistake for her, and yet she keeps going with it. She continues to teach us how not to live our lives.
_______________________________________
I took note of what you said about Bosch and filed it away for when new dishwasher time comes. I'm finding it harder and harder to come across companies willing to stand behind their products. Thank you for the info!
I grew up with Kenmore products. When we built this house, all Kenmore is what we bought. When the first dishwasher died after a respectable 12 years we got another Kenmore, a fancy one for $900. Lasted 22 months. Didn't buy a warranty because we usually never do. Had Sears here six times to fix it for a grand total of $347.19 (I will never forget that number) The 7th repairman declared it a loss-but..... Sears is supposed to refund all your repair money if it is eventually found unfixable. Home office would not give him the ok to pronounce it dead because they would then have to give me a refund. He went outside to talk to them and I heard him say "if you want to keep di*king this lady over YOU come and do it. I'm not going to." He told me to call the home office and left. I called hubby and HE called. He told them he was going to load the dishwasher on his truck, bring it to the Sears, roll it into the appliance department and sit there & tell people not to ever buy any of this crap. He was told we could have a refund after all... but it would take six weeks. His reply? "I'm going down to my basement to get my refrigerator dolly... you see if you can get that Fed Ex'd to us and call me back." We got the refund two days later. It's been seven years and I've not stepped foot into a Sears since.
When we moved from CA to AZ we did have a draining problem. We called Sears and they told us to unplug it so that it could reboot. I could not convince the person on the phone that there was nothing to reboot. I finally had to demand that he transfer me to someone in the U.S. They did and I had a repairman out the next day. The washer was fixed and is still going strong. We normally get the warranty because of the moving we've done...makes life easier.
But the heat has created a horrible, smelly scum on the water. We have a bible study weekend with 80 teens scheduled here later this month. Kids will be swimming and using kayaks. The green carpet growing on the surface needs to die! We put the chemicals in yesterday. I will not be able to water for 30 days.
I realize that my flowers pale in comparison to hubby's corn and bean fields. We have insurance, but many of our friends and neighbors do not opt for that expensive protection.
No rain in the forecast, just more 100 degree days. Not good at all.
Just throwing this out there...
This is regarding Kate not taking the kids out of the konpound for fun. First Kate doesn't know how to have fun unless the fun is for/about/directed to her. She can't share the limelight. Second, as others have said she doesn't know how to plan, organize, be flexible with a backup plan if something goes wrong which means when she's out with the kids she can't deal with issues that arise. And third, Kate has to be from a different planet not to know that the locals do not like her because of her entitlement, snotiness (fill in the blank). If Kate where to take the kids to community event the locals would ignore her. And Kate will not be ignored, especially by mediocre people. So to avoid all these problems, she simply doesn't take the kids to the movies, events, etc. The only thing she can do is what she is doing (1) tweeting about fun, (2) keeping the kids home where the kids and the situation can be controlled.
Now that I think of it, it sounds like a virtual Mom scenerio. I tweet( I'm a Mom), there for I am (a Mom).
Wayward -- My parents had a very bad experience with Sears, too. Not long after they had replaced their furnice with a new one from Sears, my dad was hospitalized with respiratory failure. It was dead of winter, and the day my mother brought him home from the hospital, she found the house freezing cold and furnace not working. She immediately called Sears and was told it would take at least 2 weeks for a repairman to come and fix the (still under warranty) furnace. Well, my mother was normally very meek and mild and not very assertive. She was used to being the follower and letting my dad take charge of things. This time, however, she just exploded (I heard all of this from my dad later). She reamed them a new one and told them that if they weren't there within the hour, she was going to call the local radio station and tell them how Sears was willing to let good customers freeze to death. She also said she'd take my dad back to the hospital and instruct them to send the bill to Sears. The repairman got there 45 minutes later, wound up installing a whole new furnace, and not a word was ever said by Sears about any payment! On top of that, the repairman turned out to be one of Dad's night school accounting students and he told them that if he'd known who the customer was, he'd have been there in 10 minutes. He also said it was Sear's policy to try to ignore repair requests in hopes that the customers would get frustrated with the non-functioning appliance and just replace it. I haven't been in a Sears in 30+ years!
To everyone having washer problems....I have a Kenmore Elite SmartWash and the trouble I was having with it sounds much like what has been described here. Sometimes when I would start the wash there would be a click, click, click sound. The timing seemed to be off. I would have to wait 15 minutes or so before starting another load and sometimes that wouldn't even work. It got worse and worse. Finally, my husband took off the front panel and unscrewed the filter. You would not believe the crap that was in it! Coins, screws, etc. Since then I haven't had a problem. It might be worth a try and I wish you luck.
I got you both beat. My Maytag washer and dryer are 26 years old. We got them in 1986 and they are still going strong. We've only had to call a repairman twice for the washer. One time because my oldest daughter overstuffed it and one of her socks got stuck behind the drum preventing it from spinning and the other time because the oldest daughter left a penny in her pocket, it fell out and landed on the drain hole for the water. We have never had to call a repairman for the dryer. I have no intention of getting new ones. I also drive a 17 year old vehicle, a 1995 Chevy Tahoe that is a tank. It has 239,000 miles on it but that thing keeps ticking. The most dependable vehicle we've ever owned. The old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind!
Maytag washer. 1988. Still looks good and works like a charm. Purchased at a Mom-and-Pop
appliance store where they stood behind their sales.
Sears story. In 1994 our church was remodeling the kitchen and needed a new refrigerator and stove. Two of us "ladies" went comparison shopping. We went to Sears and were met by a salesman on the floor who showed us what they had to offer. In a whiny voice and with a frantic look on his face, he said, "Please buy from me. I work on commission. I really need this sale."
That was my last trip to a Sears store ever. We bought the appliances from another store.
I would have at least done some sparklers and stuff pre or post if it was my kids. My grandkids got to do sparklers, bonfire and s'mores a week ahead of time while they were at my house. I love watching the fun they have.
Another person who is loathe to ever buy appliances from Sears. My aforementioned Calypso washer broke down and we were so disappointed with the machine and Sears service and I swore I'd never buy an appliance there again.
Still haven't, except for my LG vacuum. Sears had such a great price for it-- I saw it online and went to my nearest Sears to see it for myself and buy it. Turns out, the in-store price was much, much higher. So, I called my husband (with internet access/pre smart phone for me) to have him double check the website to be sure I wasn't going crazy. Turns out that the the website price was correct, but the in-store price was also and if I wanted to pay the web price, I have to order online.
WTF?
I went home and ordered it, had to drive back to pick up the damn thing somewhere in the bowels of that gawdawful place. Hey, I'm cheap ;-)
There's a great article about Kate's lawyer in my trade magazine today. He freely admits to using aggressive intimidation in his letters and a judge ruled that one of his intense letters was "extortion." As an attorney I've always tried to win cases without resorting to being a bully. I am not a fan of this tactic or this guy and I think it degrades the profession.
I thought of that too when I read it.
The more I think about this the more I can see why there was twitter silence from her yesterday. It must have been very hard for her to accept that Jon took the kids back to the neighborhood where all this started. I have a feeling that people were more friendly towards them because they were with Jon. If Kate was sitting around feeling sorry for herself she has no one to blame but herself.
It just proves what local people have been saying. The family can go places and not be followed by photographers or cause a mob scene regardless of what Kate wants people to believe. I think it is so great that the kids got to be in a situation where they could just be normal kids and have fun.
Hi Once. My friend is a teacher and a driver's education instructor. It turns out his passenger was actually the student driver. She had heart surgery yesterday to repair a tear, but that was the last update I got about her. She is only 16 years old.
It is a tragic situation all around. The young woman who died in the car that hit them was pregnant. She first hit a car in front of her and careened into the opposite lane into my friend's car. They had no time to react.
Life can change in an instant.
No one harms/hurts/leaves Kate other than Kate. Kate is the "hater" of herself. She lies and now she got caught.
Those kids will suffer because they wanted to stay with Daddy, new girlfriend and other kids to play with. Fun, stayed up late, didn't get a bath, slept on the floor like a PJ party, ordered pizza, ate pizza for breakfast. Fun, Summer Fun is what these kids had. Like being on probation.
Dad is a good Dad, no matter what else I think, he lets those kids RELAX, no posed photos, no photos by Steve to put in ROL, the kids had fun, probably didn't even dress alike either. Wonderful news.
Dad is holding "something" over Mom's head to get the kids for 2 days now. Hmmmmmm Mr. Hoffman, now is your time to guess right along with us, pick a name, any name and add some fuel to our campfire.
Does anyone remember an episode where the kids were playing with their little cars and one of the boys fell and got his hands dirty? He freaked out, absolutely went crazy that his hands were dirty.
How sad was that? Did she beat him for that? He was playing and he got dirty? Then another time Jon took the boys to a ballgame in Reading and Collin fell playing ball and he screamed and carried on because he had dirt on his pants and it took everything Jon had in him to calm him down?
That really worried me. that TLC would show that and make it look normal for the G8 to fear their mother.
Also Cara saying goodbye to Ashley on the RV trip, she with tears streaming down her face said "Ashley, I love you" and that just tore my heart out because Cara shows very little emotion, she is unlike Mady who craves attention and demands it, like her mother.
Very sad situation.
Washer stories remind me of my own that I will dare to share. I got married when I was 17, as was my husband. We moved to a small town where we knew no one as my husband was able to get a job there even at his young age. I didn't yet drive. At first I washed our clothes by hand in the bathtub including my husband's work clothes. I hung them out on the line to dry, leaving a dripping trail of water behind me throughout the house because I couldn't wring them out well enough. I would think well it wouldn't be so bad if I could just wring them out better.
Then behold we got a wringer washer that someone said they were going to throw away. I will never forget how proud I was of that thing. It felt like a breeze after the handwashing, and the clothes were so clean. I would be out on my back porch in a subdivision filling my wringer washer and tubs with the hose happy as a lark oblivious as to how it must have looked.
Then alas a neighbor said they had a front loading automatic washing machine that they didn't need anymore and would be happy if I would take it. I thought I was the luckiest girl on earth. My first wash spilled suds out all over the kitchen. I didn't measure. The second load I literally got a chair and sat in front of the machine and watched the activities through the round glass front window during the wash cycle. You would have thought it was a TV. It didn't spill over, I was thrilled.
And, yes, sadly it was in the 19th century. I never realized how young I was when I got married until I got older, and it dawned on me that I was just a kid. But we survived. We figured it out as we went. Some of those things are still good for a laugh even now.
As I matured a little, I realized those neighbors were highly aware of my plight even though I wasn't and they stepped up to help me out of the blue. It was a revelation and forever influenced me to try be a good person myself.
I also had a terrible experience with Sears Applicances. I bought a new home and purchased all of my appliances through Sears. I went into the store, chose each appliance, made the sale & then arranged delivery, timing it with my move-in date.
When they arrived with all the applicances on their truck, they unloaded each one and barely placed the new appliances where they should go. And that means they did not even hook any of these brand new applicances up! Not even the refrigerator/ice-maker, stove, microwave, washer & dryer or dishwasher. They left saying, oh you need to call someone else..another company/plumer to hook everything up. We only deliver. All of my frozen food spoiled, as I had everything in coolers from the move that day.
On the sale date, no one at Sears told me they did not install/hook-up the appliances. It's doubtful they would have the sales levels that do, if that go around.
That was over 10 years ago, and I now know to use Maytag...they do it all.
Angie,
I agree that Cara seems to have a lot of hidden pain. She is quieter than her twin, and she doesn't like the limelight, it appears. One of the worst things I ever heard Kate say (and there are a lot of examples to draw from) was the comment she made to Cara in the NY episode:
Cara did not want her photo taken with the family, and Kate said something along the lines of "You will be in the picture, or I will leave you with people you don't know."
What mother says that? That comment feeds into a child's worst fears, and I will never, ever forget it.
Of course, I had several such bras. One night my boyfriend arrived and we were sitting in the livingroom for a few minutes before our date when I glanced directly in the diningroom and there was my padded bra standing at attention!!! I could have died on the spot. No more illusions for the boyfriend!
I am a long time lurker from Colorado Springs and, Dmasy, I can't thank you enough for thinking of us. Our community has been amazing through the heartbreak of the past 13 days. Last night the city held a donation only concert for Waldo Canyon Fire relief, underwritten 100% by The Colorado Springs Independent (liberal newspaper) and Focus on the Family (conservative organization). Last I heard they are near $400,000 and still counting. These 2 groups made the decision that our community is more important than their differences. The love and support for our firefighters and police has been tremendous and organizations are have more donations and volunteers then they know what to do with! It's touching to see what good has come from destruction and as of last night the fire was 90% contained!
On a side note: My pastor (who was an evacuee last week) twittered this Tuesday:
I have ny own washing machine story, but it's not as funny as many of them that I've read!
When we bought our house it came with an older washer and dryer. A few years later my hubby was going to be leaving on a Saturday for his annual week long muskie fishing trip in northern WI. The Thursday before he left, the washer conked out. He worked on it on Friday and came to the conclusion that he couldn't fix it.
Then he turns to me with a small smile on his handsome face and says "What are the chances that I can leave tomorrow and worry about the washer when I get back next week?" My reply was simple: not a chance in hell!
We went to a Sears outlet store that evening, with our very young daughter, to buy a new washer. Our daughter picked out a rusty orange colored washer because it reminded her of a pumpkin and she loved the fall season. No matter to her that our kitchen was blue and white!
Needless to say, mom had to overrule and we bough a white one that was similar in style to the white dryer that we had. Therefore, the hubs was able to go on his fishing trip, although he left a few hours later than he planned (it took a little bit to hook the new one up).
Thank you, Dmasy and Readerlady. It has definitely been a rollercoaster for our city. The beloved Flying W Ranch, a local chuckwagon ranch that has been owned by the same family since 1953 burned to the ground, except for 1 building and a tepee. We wept watching the Mountain Shadows neighborhood burning last week and losing 2 senior citizens in the fire. We are finally catching glimpses of Pikes Peak through the smoke. But we've had amazing stories of animal rescues, generosity, kindness and so much giving. Our local food bank normally receives 120,000 pounds of food during their yearly drives, but in the past week has received over 1 million pounds. Strangers helping strangers. Even people who lost everything keep telling the firefighters how grateful they are to them for saving 81% of the neighborhood. I've never seen anything like it and I am pretty darn proud of Colorado Springs right now!
That quote was from the pastor of my church. Unlike Kate, he gets it. :)
Thanks to you all for the years of entertaining reading! When I first started critisizing Kate on a Babycenter forum long ago the results were pretty harsh. Boy, that worm has turned.
The Hawaiian burger I had was vegetarian. It was grilled portabella mushrooms, grilled pineapple, some vegetables I don't remember,
I will try to get the recipe. It was the brother of a friend of mine who lives part time in Hawaii who fixed them for us, so I was not
I don't comment here much, but I just want to say that I am in awe over the women at this blog.
When I first started reading here, I thought Admin's recaps were beyond hilarious and spot-on, and that everybody's comments were witty and insightful. As I continued to read, though, I became more and more aware of why I love reading this blog so much: you all are truly amazing,funny, resilient, thoughtful people. I don't know any of you personally, but I have been touched by so many of your stories and inspired by what some of you have overcome in life. I am a young'n - about to turn 23 next month. I have (hopefully) many many years ahead of me and know that life will bring me some tough times, and reading some of your stories has really made me aware of what we as people can go through as long as we fill our lives with love and laughter.
Also, I am always moved by the kind words that are exchanged on this blog. Any time that a poster mentions a sick loved one or a family crisis, many many of you offer a kind wish or prayer, and it is so wonderful to see. Thank you all for making this blog such a wonderful place to visit.
I'm sorry for the long-winded post, I just wanted to thank you all and let you know that all of your kind, thoughtful words to one another do not go unnoticed. May this blog continue on for a long long time, as wonderfully as it has thus far!
Oh by the way reports on Marty Singer's fees range from $600 to $1,000, with more than likely them being at $1,000. AN HOUR. More legal bills the kids have to pay, more good use for their hard-earned money.
Seriously, hire a local lawyer or at least someone in Philly. They could handle such a thing just as well, and far more civilly. Does she think PA lawyers are not good enough, she has to go all the way to Century City to find some hot shot in LA?
In my book a Hawaiian burger could be made with ground protein of choice, brushed with teriyaki while grilling, and topped with a slice of grilled pineapple. Glad to see the kids get a change up from chicken wings.
In addition to grilling ribs yesterday, we also served up beef sliders on a pretzel bun I found at the Costco bakery. With fruit and veggie apps, we had delicious leftovers tonight.
So, after 24 hours of twatter silence, tonight Our Lady of Lonliness serves up a single RT, about an old episode. Living in fantasyland, wonder how many vino box empties are lying around. I am actually not surprised Jon still has the kids since I don't think he has had them since Father's Day (and I hate that I know that, roll of eyes).
I'm still not seeing any proof that Kate has kept this lawyer on retainer for this alleged book. IS there a book?
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Lots of screen names get shortened here hells bells no worries. In any case maybe a screen name that's not a curse word would be better. No one said we have proof he is still her lawyer. He has been her lawyer, however, and we're talking about the kind of lawyer he is, the kind of lawyer Kate, who is so anti-bullying, or claims to be, would hire, and it's hypocritical of her IMO. When even a judge is calling you an extortionist, it's a problem. It's very rare for judges to criticize attorneys, only if there are serious problems. Judges in general are very respectful of even the most aggressive tactics. This guy has a reputation for a bully, he owns it, and a lot of people do NOT like it. I do think he still represents Kate but no I cannot PROVE it, how could i? I'm not part of the suit thank goodness. But don't you think a lawyer as aggressive as Marty Singer would throw an absolute fit if some nobody in PA claimed that his firm sent a C&D letter and represented Kate when they in fact did not?? I would think that would be awfully ballsy of anyone to mess around with such a thing. I don't really care if he's still her lawyer, the point to me was he was her lawyer at least at one time, and it says a lot about her. First that she thinks she's big enough to hire someone people like John Travolta hire, second that she's spending over $600 bucks an hour on him and blowing the kids money yet AGAIN, and third that she would hire such a bully.
hells bells said...
I completely agree with you. Thanks for letting me spout off.
That, plus the fact that she hired him to go up against Jon, her children's father. Speaks volumes for her character, even if another lawyer recommended she do that. I've said it before, the only thing worse than being married to Kate is having Kate as an ex. ~shudder~
Oh yes it does say $750 an hour. So there you have it, $750 an hour the kids' paid for this guy. She could easily find a local lawyer who would bill 250-350 and stop this nonsense. And $750 is NONSENSE, even in L.A.
Have you ever gotten the sense from a mom that they LIKE embarrassing their child? You know what's even more ridiculous about hiring Marty back in the day? Kate was going through a divorce. She needed a divorce lawyer. Marty is an IMAGE lawyer. Divorce is not under his practice areas at all. He doesn't do divorce cases he does image cases. She had another attorney handling her divorce, I don't recall who but it was someone else. I'm pretty sure it was a woman.
In addition to her divorce attorney who probably billed at least 400 bucks an hour, she hired Marty at 750 an hour to protect her IMAGE against Jon. What a waste of the kids' money.
Thank you, Dmasy and Readerlady. It has definitely been a rollercoaster for our city. The beloved Flying W Ranch, a local chuckwagon ranch that has been owned by the same family since 1953 burned to the ground, except for 1 building and a tepee.
-------------
ShayShay--I am so sad to hear about the Flying W ranch. Our family went to a chuck wagon around 1966, when I was 12 years old and it is the best memory of any family vacation that I have. The cowboy entertainment was so ridiculously hilarious and entertaining that we bought a record of their act that we enjoyed for years. As a matter of fact, I was just talking to my sister about that trip and the chuck wagon.
I was in the area in 1999 and drove out to se if the Flying W was still there. I was shocked that the beautiful forested area had become a subdivision that was developed right up to the entrance. When our family was there, it felt like a remote area nestled in the forest.
So sad of a loss to the family and all of those who will miss out on wholesome family fun. Do you know if they are going to rebuild and if their is a public appeal for donations?
Spot on OrangeCrush. A bully hiring a bully. It's amazing how quickly Kate can part with her moldy money when it comes to protecting the saccharine fake image she thinks she's pulling off.
I have to say, my heart has kind of been hurting all evening about the sediment upthread about Kate telling Cara to get in the picture or she would be left with strangers. It reminds me of that picture in Alaska where Kate is vivaciously posing for the picture while poor little Mady is crying her eyes out. F the picture bitch! That child looked devastated and Kate's only concern was flashing her Chiclets for the camera.
As we've said, if THIS is the shit Kate said on camera, what goes on behind closed doors? What this is teaching this little girl is how dare she speak up and voice an opinion? She has no right to speak up for herself, do it again and I will discard you.
If Kate really wants to write another book, she should get busy on her 64th pink iPhone tapping out a manual on how to raise a daughter who will have zero self esteem, and who will be forever uncomfortable and hesitant to advocate for herself. Kate seems to be an expert on fostering dysfunction, she might as well share. With a couple chapters dedicated to training your daughter to never say 'no' and pointers on how to threaten her with her very well-being if she dares to try. And at least one chapter on trivializing her feelings and telling her she's exaggerating and being ridiculous.
Then, I hope she wraps the whole thing up with an entire epilogue about what to do when when the child becomes involved with the unfortunate things teens sometimes do. Word for word, I hope she'll outline the lecture to give the daughter, grilling her on why she didn't say no? Why didn't she stand up for herself? Why didn't she tell her friends to take her home? DON'T YOU HAVE ANY SELF RESPECT? YOU KNOW YOU CAN ALWAYS TALK TO ME,
WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL ME??!!
Yes, so true. When I picked my son up July 5 at the end of the day, I asked the teacher: Did he nap today? He is a notorious non-napper, but he was up till 10pm because we went to a local park/amphitheatre to hear an oldies band and watch the fireworks for FREE.
The teacher laughed and said EVERYBODY napped today. All the kids had been up late watching fireworks.
AND: Of course my son didn't recognize any of the music (he's 3 1/2) except when they played The Lion Sleeps Tonight. He was a-weem-a-awaying along with the crowd, lol. And he kept trying to touch the fireworks and put them on his daddy's shoulder. My husband couldn't figure out why he kept getting tapped on the shoulder. It was so cute. First time fireworks--will never forget it.
So few tweets, but so much sad info. Organizing her desk and watching old episodes.
Fat and muscle weigh the same and this from someone who fancies herself a fitness expert.
Oh, and if there are any guys reading here, women's dress sizes are a marketing sham. There is no true size because designers want a size 8 to fit into their size 4 (ahem, Kate) so they feel skinny.
SusanToyota, love your posts. Never thought you were the 'Susan'. She came across as the one I ran into a couple of years ago on 'Z on TV's blog. She would always tangle with me over my posts, guess she didn't like my 'kate negativity'. Sad thing is I couldn't find any positivity with kate, and unlike her 'I' won't make up stuff just to say something.
re kate and her constant organizing, if you are so organized, how come it has to continually be organized anew? And I don't work (just like kate) and my white wicker desk has a pleated chiffon shaded silver and mirrored lamp on it, a burguny wine glass full of pretty pens, and doesn't need organizing. Of course, my ornate white metal bistro table with the 36" glass top next to it where I actually do stuff has pics of my grandaughter and me, and one of us together, a pretty lamp, antique vase with silk roses, a phone, sudoku book, calendar book, note paper and a stack of pretty boxes. And IT doesn't need organizing, reorganization and to be organized daily.
Sorry for the long rant. I just want to show how much I can't stand kate, anything like kate or anything about kate. There isn't a strong enough word to define my feelings against her. Well, to revert to childishness, maybe YUCK works.
I currently have a cork board on my kitchen door that leads into the garage, but want to get rid of that for neatness sake. I have a ceramic bowl for opened mail that needs to eventually go up to the office for processing and I have the island problem.
I'll transfer this post to the new one, but just wanted to throw some of my issues out there to you smart folks ;-)
Admin,
I'd love a blog about a tidy desk. Here's my tips (using my office desk, not home desk).
1) Touch paper once, make a decision, then take care of the paper
2) File electronically as much as possible. Meaning scan in docs and, if possible, discard the originals. That way when someone wants a doc its a matter of attaching the file to an email and sending it to the receipent.
3) Use a small spiral notebook. When someone gives you a task, write it down. Refer back to the notes to make sure the task was accomplished
4) Use an electronic calendar. Most e-calendars have places to write comments about the scheduled meeting.
While these tips are for the office, they are easily transferrable to a home office.
Amy those are great tips. I also like doing e-billing/paperless for as many bills as I can. It's getting so easy to check the bill online and make sure all is well. Do you really need a paper copy of your cell phone bill, cable bill or internet bill? Usually not, and it just creates more filing work. And most companies let you look at their bills for the past year or two online.
I don't think Little Big Head is talentless but she's not the most talented in the bunch, and I do find her very amusing. I do kind of like that the story goes she really wasn't pursuing a T.V. career, she wasn't some kind of media whore. If I recall she was working for Today or Good Housing Keeping or something producing or doing behind the scenes stuff and was discovered there as good to be on camera. In my brief stint on the TV side they once pulled a producer to be on camera and she wasn't really looking to do it.
I am a big proponent of a place for everything and everything in its place. We have a flashlight home, a battery box, a lighbulb shelf and lots of drawers with dividers...you get the idea. Makes me feel good to have order. I understand what Kate is saying. But, the "putting away" is just folded into my normal day. It isn't the focus. Once you have a structure, it is almost effortless.
I don't think she is as "organized" as she boasts. The backgrounds in her photos reveal stuff sitting around on counters. Remember the coffee stand beside her bed -- I could not live with that array of products in full display.
My last post sounds kind of smug, I think.
I should add that except for guests (We will have 8 this weekend.) just two of us live in a house with ample storage space. Kate, with 8 children, would have a much more difficult task on her hands.
I saw a bio show on Giada a long time ago, and she really wasn't looking for a tv career. She said that she had a friend/family family member that kept telling her how angry she looked in her tv show, and they showed a few clips from season 1 of her show. She looks extremely uncomfortable and appears to be scowling. It's very clear she wasn't a "tv personality."
I thought the clips were funny, but she really has come a long way to make herself "camera friendly."
I can take her or leave her, but I absolutely adore Alton Brown. I've been crushing on him for YEARS. Love Good Eats, so glad they are rerunning it on Cooking Channel. Informative, fun, good recipes and very educational, learn tons about food chemistry.
Well, agreed, except she has nothing else to do AND she organizes to the point of obsession. My house s way tidier with the kids grown, but back in the day I figured it was better to have happy kids who did not have a nagging mom. So we lived with organized chaos, albeit clean organized chaos. Closed the doors to their rooms, insisted on more respect for common areas.
Her desk can hardly be messy, she has NO work beyond online crap for CC and she pays bills. Big whoop. Organizing her bathroom? She's hardly lived in that house long enough, plus truly she just is the Queen of Busywork for twitter. Maybe she labeled her drawers. The woman cannot even use real plates.
Katie, Katie Katie, how do you expect to make it as a "fitness expert" when you make stupid statements like that? No dear, fat does not weigh more than muscle HOWEVER muscle is more lean so looks much better than the flab. There is such a thing as too much dieting.
As far as the sizes of women's clothing, all those new jeans (specifically NYDJ) that claim to take a size off? Although they look good I always buy one size bigger because I can't stand to be stuffed in like a sausage and one size up fits perfectly. Size is just a number. I'm 4'11" and if I buy a size 10 rather than an 8 so be it, the key for me is comfort.
Meg Cabot has written a series of "Heather Wells" mysteries that are nice beach reads. "Big Boned", "Size 12 Is Not Fat" etc. You can see the theme here. Yeah they're chick lit but fun reads as are her other books that she writes for adults (her kids books aren't bad either).
Hers's to Kate quotes: This is from Your e-cards:
If you want me to go running with you, I'm going to need some motivation..... Like a clown waving a bloody knife chasing us!
Got this from a facebook post from my nephew.
Geez, it took Kate a whole day to organize her desk? Man she must be a slob/hoarder like person, cause if she is organized like she claims, then it should not take all day to organize, infact, 5 min or less clean up should do, at the most. What she do to the bathroom, shrub the walls and everything within a inch of the bathroom. obessessed much! It, takes me about 10 min to clean bathroom, and most of that is to wait till the blue toilet stuff turns green. Even waiting for the shower stuff to work and rinse. Kate is a time waster. But I guess if you have nothing to do it is not a time waster.
Everybody, and pets stay cool, it's 93 here in Chicago at 11:06am. My freeloading dogs(lovingly) and birds are enjoying the A/C. They don't stay long outside. I would not keep the dogs outside long either. Even my baby fish, the water is on the warm side of the temp range, if it goes past that upper mark, I will throw some refrig cold conditioned fish water as I mark the container, in their tank. I have prepared conditioned fish water in the empty gallon drinking water bottles. I use, bottled drinking water for my birds.
NJgal51: You are doing the right thing, when buying clothes. You buy clothes to:1. fit, 2, look nice, 3 to be comfy, 4. to look comfy.
Here's a clothing tip:
I buy clothes in varies sizes, cause all manufactures clothes sizes are different. Even a rack of same size clothes, vary in size, anywhere from an 1/4 of an inch to a full 1 1/2 to 2 inches. When cloth is cut, the stack of cloth, the top piece is say the true size 4(this is the first piece of cloth under the pattern), the bottom ones are almost a size 6. Cause material shifts when cutting a stack. So if you are a size 9, and it feels snug, take that garment and measure all the rest of the rack, you will find a 9 that is at most an 1/4 inch to an inch bigger, on the rack. You do this by laying the garment you have on top of another. You will see the difference. Same with shoes, 2 pairs of same shoe same size, one pair feels bigger.
So I see that she tweeted some weight advice to a fan. Gosh, this woman is all about weight and calories and all of that, and if she's not careful, her impressionable twitter followers are going to go down that same path. Or, even worse, her children will.
Admin, please let me know if this information is too personal or not appropriate, but I am currently in recovery from an eating disorder (bulimia). I've become more open about it and I'm on the road to recovery, which is important. But eating disorders are hell, and that's why it bothers me so much that Kate publicly posts her diet of only measly salads and acts as though being skinny is the purpose of life. I am worried that is the message that her children are going to taker from her attitude and behaviors.
My mom had an eating disorder as well, her behaviors were different, but the bottom line is I was always exposed to obsessive behaviors around food and a mindset that thinner is better. Not at all to blade blame on my dear mother, she is the best. I am just saying that impressionable young children pick up on that stuff, and I really hope the Gosselin children go through life with a healthier relationship with food than their mother has.
Admin I apologize for the self-disclosure, I hope it wasn't too much and you do not have to post this of you feel it is inapproproate. I just am bothered that Kate thinks she is doing things the smart, healthy way and that it is okay for her to focus so much on that. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
good luck everybody else said...
I am so jealous of those of you that live near Primanti Bros. They were featured on Man vs Food with Adam Richmond. I live in NY state but would make the drive to PA just to try their capicola/egg sandwhich!!!!
