Kate? If your 8 year old spilled dog food all over the floor after feeding the dog, it's not big deal and certainly no need to grouse about it. Just tell the child "Ooops, looks like some food spilled. Can you clean it up?". I realize I only have 5 kids, but that seems to have worked for us and I never felt put upon for having to do it. . Then Kate finds out she might be a contender for DWTS, so she now will exercise all Summer long. Some people are working with their reps and contractual requests. I doubt Kate could ask for anything other than to use a trailer. I doubt her bodyguard would even be allowed. Most of all? I think all of the pro dancers would refuse to have her back. You know what, couple weeks ago my cat go really, really lucky. I went to give him cat treats and I pour a few into the palm of my hand. Only, somehow I missed my hand. My cat, well he just thought, "OH BOY!" So he got a few extra because I spilled it. I'm not 8 years old and I still manage to make a mess on occasion. It happens to the best of us.
The thing about a mess is, it cleans up. You want to know what a real mess is? When you spill a bottle of red food coloring on your white tile kitchen floor. Yeah, I got skills to make great messes!
More she berates her kids for screwing up or spilling or whatever the less likely they are going to want to pitch in and do things. Kids like doing things because they do it right they feel like a grown up and are happy usually because you are just glad to see them pitch in around the house. She's going about it all wrong.
We don't actually know how Content Farmer handled dogfoodgate. Her public history would assume she handled it poorly. But even if she did it all "right", why would she tell it to everyone? Would she have shared that story with friends at her BBQ? It seems hateful toward the child to me.
I am never over her all or nothing attitude. ALL of the girls are better at details than ALL of the boys. Sure. Because boys and girls must be treated as a pack. She really adhers to gender stereotypes. I can't imagine that in 8 kids a mixture of boys and girls may want to play soccer, or do dance, or art class. Cara alone is an example of a child who excels at sports and...*gasp* she is a girl.

Okay, at the risk of sounding like Captain Obvious wouldn't the dog just eat the spilled kibble off the floor? I am quite a bit older than 8, but I have been known to spill some kibble and my dog happily gobbles it up right off the floor. UNLESS, the child has to carry the food to an OUTSIDE pen, in which case the dog couldn't help with the clean up. Oh wait, I forgot, Shoka loves to be outside!
Most moms are way too busy to dwell much on spilled dog food. Something like that is just a blip in the day of a real working mom. It makes me think of my mom. She's been retired for about 10 years now, and she spends her days pretty much doing what she wants. She volunteers a lot at her church, goes to the Y, has lunch with friends, etc. But when we talk she tells me about the minutiae of her life. I get to hear what cute thing Martha Stewart made on her show, what the neighbor's cat has been up to, and how many loads of wash she's done. I don't mind, but it's a testament to the fact that she's not really busy any longer. Just like Kate.

She did not do a single dance that earned anything above a 2 (for showing up), yet she got 5, 6, and even 7s, I think. She stayed on for 5 weeks and couldn't dance her way out of a wet paper bag. And she doesn't understand why she has haters?

This seems like a clever, contrived way to get a buzz going about Kate ramping up her comeback in to television. She can have the best PR person on the planet representing her, but talentless, is still talentless! WHAT does she have to offer other than having given birth to twins and sextuplets?
This public back and forth on Twitter with this new PR person is designed to create news, get people talking about Kate again. The conversation is over, no one is biting in my opinion. But if Kate is paying, I am sure Erin Braxton will make some calls, good luck with that.

Well, the cat is out of the bag. Kates probably doing a promo for the San Diego marathon(which I mentioned a while back, when she said she was doing a marathon, in june and was tweeting that guy who does those marathons) , since she tweeted that she is to call this PR person, at 3pm, so they can plan something, which is probably the marathon. BIG WHOOP! The Today show will a big bore.
I love the way, Kate makes her mornings with the kids, seem like such a terrible chore, to deal with, since she is hardly attentive to them when they are home.
I spent yesterday cleaning out the whole garage, and still have about 1/10 left to do, and plant the rest of my beddings. I am so sore today, I can hardly walk, if I sit too long, it's hard to move. But you know I hated doing it, but when I look at the inside of the garage now, I am proud of my cleaning, it looks beautyful. And the pain was worth it. Unlike Kate who gets no pleasure out of anything and everything and nothing.

As, for Jon doing an interview, so what! BIG WHOOP! AS, for Jon saying he was not going to do no more interviews, so did Cher, and other celebs, people, saying they quit, show biz etc, and hey they are all back. That is why Jon should have said: never say never or maybe in the future. He was quick to write off interviews then, but you know things change over months and years. Everyone gets older and for most of us, change happens, and either you go with it or you don't. Kate has never let go, Jon has. Jons interview can be compared to some person who did somethin a couple of decades or years ago, and the media is doing a follow-up. That is how I take Jon's interviews. Jon does have fans, just like Kate does, only difference is Jon does not use his kids, for his stuff, Kate does.

Aeduko I don't know if she is bipolar, but she does seem to have manic and depressive episodes which could be bipolar or could just be a manifestation of narcissism. It's not meant to be offensive, it just is what it is. There is someone here who stated they have narcissism too, though nothing we say about that is meant to be offensive to them.
Kate's doing whatever she can to keep her name out there,be it marathons, twitter, etc. I have no problem with her doing DWTS. She would draw viewers, like it or not.(I wouldn't watch, don't watch the show now,lol).

I thought the main problem every one had with Kate was her making the KIDS work..they aren't working now, so although I don't think she is talented, smart, or even a nice person, I would like for her to somehow make enough money to support her kids and their present lifestyle.

I've been thinking all this week, questioning WHY I let this lady get under my skin. She doesn't force me to follow her antics, so why do I? Why does she need a PR person? PR for WHAT? I'll say one thing - this woman is persistent. Delusional, yes, but she seems to think she's still relevant. She couldn't get 30 people interested enough to cruise with her. Why would she expect anyone would want to watch her on television or anywhere? She has money to pay a PR person, money to pay a bodyguard, money to go to NYC to get her hair done, but no money for spring break vacation, for movies, for gym classes or to send her kids to camp. I don't know why Kate on DWTS is even a topic for discussion. The All Stars is for the best dancers. Further, not only did she stink but there were numerous reports about what a nightmare she was to work with.
If she wants to run and promote charities, sounds good to me. Won't be much money in it but she gets publicity which is what she is all about.

But Julie really hasn't gotten her any jobs over the past year. Yes, I think that has more to do with Kate than JMC skills as a publicist, but I can see why Kate is looking for different representation at this point.
If Kate wants to be the new face of R&R marathons, that's perfectly fine. I suspect that they're going to try and brand her as a fitness/healthy living guru who happens to also have 8 kids - sort of a "Pioneer Woman meets Shape Magazine". Could Kate pull it off? I've no idea. But I would give her credit for trying to craft a career based on her own abilities, and not on the backs of her children.
Kate being a mother of 8 (twins and sextuplets) will always be a part of her schtick. But Kate doing a show where the focus is 98% on her showing running tips, cooking tips, etc. and 2% showing the kids eating her food or her telling them how she prepares xyz for her kids and they love it is different than Kate doing a show which revolves around her kids and parenting them (as only Kate can).
Would I watch such a show? Probably not. I don't think Kate can ultimately pull it off, but perhaps with the right PR firm behind her she could. Who knows? I wouldn't watch because I know too much about her, via her past shows/appearances and the Gosselin blogosphere. So any words coming out of her mouth wouldn't be based on her experience or knowledge, they'd be fed to her via an earpiece. That level of phony isn't okay with me. Doesn't matter if it's Kate or anyone else.
Would I watch if Jon had a show? Perhaps. Depends on the show. But that's because I don't think Jon would try to pass himself off as an expert on something. I could see him hosting a local "Man about town" segment, which is what he kind of seems to be doing on Twitter anyway. I could see him hosting an "Evening Magazine" type of program. Beyond that? Not much.
I think Jon, however, is using his fame to cultivate his client base for his new business. More power to him.

I don't think Erin Saxton is her new PR, it sounds to me like this is the initial call so they can feel each other out. A PR person will basically take on anyone as long as they're willing to pay the going rate. The question is will Kate pay since it's coming out of her pocket now. Hopefully if she signs on with this PR person she will be told to shut the hell up on twitter.

I am late to the party but I still want to weight in on complaining about a child spilling dog food.
We always keep the dog food in a big bucket. There was a measuring cup in the bucket. To feed the dog all you had to do was fill the cup and dump the food into the bowl. No bulky bag to lug around or spill. I hope she is not making her boys lug around the 50 lb bag of dog food.
Did she not mention her initial interest in DWTS on Jay Leno via remote interview? She said something to the effect "I would love to do DWTS. I think it would so funny because I can not dance at all". I believe that interview was on the date the divorce was made final. I believe she already knew she had been cast. Jay Leno is NBC. She may indeed say how she would "love" to do the All-Star show - not, technically, announcing her casting as the cast cannot do that until the official announcement. It's how Kate rolls. If so, I hope they pair the cast with their original partners.
Tony won the challenge with the two young professionals who had not danced with each other. Tony choreographed their dance and mentored them. They beat Cheryl's team and Tristan's team. I loved the way the young dancers took the professional competition pose in front of the judges - and held that position during the entire time. Kate should take a lesson, she never knows what to do with hands.
Who wants to bet that Kate never, in her mind, had a "good" teacher. Not school, nursing school or, as we know, Tony?

I too think Kate is limited. Me? I'd take the money and all that time on my hands to further my degree (or in Kate's case, get a degree and then move on) and invest in a long-term career. The problem is that Kate's goals are all short term, and she's got many more years to support herself and fund her retirement. She's a day-trader, while I'm a dollar cost averaging type of gal. The odds are way, way against her succeeding long term, as they are with the vast majority of any regular "Joes" who comes into a lot of money in a relatively short period of time.

In terms of DWTS the only way she lands a contract is if the producers believe it's good for ratings. The cast probably have some say but don't know how much in terms of overriding any decision where Gosselin is concerned. Bottom line Kate Gosselin has said so herself. She can't dance and 2nd, she's not controversial. She's just a huge snooze fest. How is that good for ratings? It's not ergo why would ABC need her? IMO they don't and the producers know it.
I haven't been able to get too worked up about Kate and the DWTS speculation. If she does get on, I won't be watching. I hate that show with a passion. There are so many commercials it drives me crazy. Maybe all TV is like that. If it's not Netflix streaming I don't watch. Hopefully I can cut the cord soon and stop TV altogether. It would be a nice savings and I almost never turn it on anyway.
Kate has to make money somehow. If it includes her making a fool of herself (and the kids aren't involved) that's the way it goes. "You get what you get and you don't get upset."
I am curious if her new PR "peeps" have a better grasp of her demographics than Alice Travel had. A LOT of the new and sometimes one-time tweeters are preteen and teenagers. Maybe Kate would be a good spokesperson for cheap, flashy, glittery makeup. Her peeps should take advantage of her arrested emotional development if they want to get their $$ worth.

I'm not impressed by this PR person's credentials. Rehabilitating Kate's image is going to be a full-time job for someone (or a team) for at least 6 months, so I hope they come ready to deal with her poor attitude, her unquenchable expectation of something for nothing, and her inability to speak articulately and intelligently on any subject. If they don't throw her into intensive media training immediately, there's not a hope of turning that "career" around. For all her repeating that she's got this wonderful "gift of gab," I've yet to see it function in an unscripted format. She just.ain't.got "it."
I also don't necessarily think Kate's been hired to do any promo for RnR Marathons. First, she's not an athlete and she's not a "fitness" personality. She might be aspiring to the latter, but that's going to be a long row to hoe. Second, she has barely mentioned her marathons over the past few months. I'll only believe she's been engaged as a spokesperson when and if we see her pushing the event hard-core, on Twitter and her web site. Last, I don't think RnR is really using "personalities" to market their product. Their "hook," if you will, is the rock 'n' roll vibe, with live concerts along the route and a party atmosphere. Where does SuperMom of 8 fit into that demographic? Ah . . . nowhere that I can see. And they got some REALLY bad feedback after LV, a fair amount of it directed toward Kate and her "star" treatment. So time will tell on that front, I by no means think this is a done deal.
Sounds she like she turned the spilled dog food in to a dresser drawer knob moment (and you just get the feeling the spoon surfaced as soon as filming stopped on that one). Poor kids.
FYI, Julie May still has Kate on her web site, so I don't think that relationship has been severed. But I believe Julie is her agent/manager, not her PR person. There is a difference in a business that is neck-deep in "brokers" and professional schmoozers. Granted, with a career that's as deep in the trough as Kate's is at the moment, it's hard to justify adding anyone, but it's possible that these people only get paid if certain thresholds are met (# times on TV, # mentions in mainstream media, etc.). And obviously, as far as we know, there is no relationship with this new PR company yet.
It makes me wonder, though, what she was doing for PR prior to this and whether someone has been fired. Lord knows her "PR" over the 8 months since TLC ditched her has been worse than nonexistent--in some professions it would qualify as malpractice. Widespread mainstream media coverage of Kate cruise and only a dozen takers? There's not even a rung for that on the pathetic scale.
Why would she expect anyone would want to watch her on television or anywhere? **** Summerwind-- as I read this, I'm watching a commercial starring Richard Hatch. Remember, Season 1 Survivor winner and tax cheat who spent 4 years in the pokey? Yes, even he got a gig on TV doing a "IRS Survivor" commercial! Talk about a turd that won't flush... Completely agree with you. I think Kate has nothing going on, but this half marathon, that she has HALF heartedly trained for. I think it was arranged at the same time as the LV one before all the controversy. I have also said that I think her old PR rep went with the TLC contract, and she is probably shopping for a new one. If Kate contacted with new PR firm and not the other way around, I can just hear their first telephone conversation.
Kate says that she wants her own talk show, or excercise show, or food show, or dieting for woman show, or voice cartoon show, or comedy show, or publish a cookbook, or a book about anything,etc. In summary, Kate would tell this new PR firm that she wants to continue to be famous doing whatever it takes. Kate would sound like a fool to this new PR firm. Then Kate would tell the new PR firm all the many, many, many things that Julie May has tried over the past 10 months. Julie has contacted every tv show out there and no one would have Kate on. And no one would publish her cookbook that has already been published.
The point is Kate has to bring a talent to the table and can't say just put my name and face out there doing nothing. I think the PR person would laugh in her face. If Julie May couldn't find anything for Kate I doubt this new person can. I just hope the PR firm didn't contact Kate with something in mind for her.

Interesting to read their services page (see link). It seems one of their main focuses are authors. Their last paragraph is very telling for why Kate would work with them: "Media Training: We offer one-on-one media training in order to best prepare you for any media interviews, whether it’s with a television program, radio show or print publication. During this training session you will learn how to deliver your message effectively, answering techniques, what to wear and much more."
Maybe what Kate sent off with a kiss and a prayer was some kind of a book and she wants to be prepared for a book tour.

If Kate wants the "image" she yearns for, I think a PR person is going to tell her that she should NOT be dragging Purseboy all over the map and allowing him to be seen. This would be off-limits for any member of an entourage traveling with a "star" (yes, I know, we aren't really talking about a star, but in her own mind. . . .).
Lots of (important) professional women travel with PAs who are female. But Kate's problem with a competent, highly efficient, intelligent woman would be, um, competition? In any case, an image overhaul to what she thinks she wants to be would have to, I think, include ditching the male handler. It just makes her look like a pretentious, wimpy wannabe. Yes, Discovery/TLC does have a connection. Bill Geddes, for one, producer on The View, has produced more than 60 hours of programming for TLC. This is a very incestuous business, obviously, and for whatever reason, Geddes has always been a promoter of Kate.
Someone mention above the media training component of this PR firm. All I can say is, I am 100% sure that this was tried with Kate, on many occasions, and failed miserably. Remember, at one point, she was going to be at the center of a huge, multi-product Procter & Gamble campaign. It was announced and everything. And then, poof. I don't think it's just because she's a nightmare to work with; I think it's also because she cannot think/speak on her feet.
Re: Preesi shutting down - It'll be sad to see that archive go, but it was great while it lasted. Around Easter time I got really busy and didn't have time for the blogs. Stepping away felt good. In a way I felt like I got my life back. When you don't blog Gosselin anymore it's so easy to stop thinking about Kate during day to day life. And that's what I was doing! That woman really doesn't deserve any attention. The kids are off tv, and now I'm more thoughtful about kids on reality shows, and what the reality industry is all about. So what else? I have no idea about Jon, I assume he received some kind of IT training, but I'm not sure I really get this question. Just because your parents are educated or you are "upper-middle class" doesn't mean that college is the right path for you.
College expenses are so out of control and there are so many good jobs you can do without a formal degree that I think we are moving away from the old mantra that everyone should go to college. There are many paths that can land you a great career. College is just one way.

I would think that since his dad was educated, and a dentist no less, I would think the finances were in place for Jon to attend college, and it was probably understood he would attend. I realize that college isn't for everyone, and there are some careers that don't require it, but I don't think attending college and receiving a degree ever hurt anyone. And from what I've seen, it's a lot harder to attend once you are in the work force, and/or have a family. A college degree may not help all, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have a degree...at least you have more options, imo.

It's hurt a lot of people who cannot get a job and have to pay college back with no job. You also spend a lot of your prime working years in college when you could be building experience and moving up at a job. It IS for many people though don't get me wrong, it obviously was for me.
I definitely used to believe that everyone should go to college if at all possible. I've completely changed in the past few years when I see so many people out of work and college costs through the roof. College is not the great deal it was even 10 years ago, for many people it's a money pit and a road to nowhere.
That's one of the nicest pictures I've seen of Kate. It's very flattering, no question about it. However, up close she looks nothing like that. You'd never know it's the same person.

I have never commented on Preesi's site but did go there to read at times. I never caught on how to navigate around it but enjoyed her finds. She really is a great researcher. She could find just about anything that was out there.
I commend Preesi for recognizing we are a huge part of what keeps Kate relevant. Kate has even thanked us for that but I see no harm in commenting on her blog and on here. I used to comment on articles and Kate's TLC blog. I tweeted some too until I realized too that I was only helping to keep her in the news. For a long time now this is the only place I share my thoughts on Kate. I've never seen Radar or other sites quote this blog nor have I seen it pop up in a Google search on her (another thing I rarely do anymore). I'm so glad I didn't see a rash of negative Kate comments on the DWTS vote for the all stars site. I really think that would only help to get her a place on the show. I guess I should be happy if she got a spot on it because she's working and not using the kids but honestly I just hate to see her get any job in showbiz because of how much she thinks she deserves it. I would love to see her get a job in the civilian world where she belongs and fade away. This no-talent, arrogant woman has no business next to stars who have skills and have worked so hard to get there.
I've gotten off track a bit here but my point is if we stay away from commenting on Radar and other sites that are looking for nothing but hits and stay off her Twitter there is no harm on coming here. Her not having an education has pigeon-holed her into a lifetime of low paying jobs, with no retirement benefits, and probably no health benefits either.
I am an optimist, an always hoping the next generation will have it better than the last..it's scary enough sending kids out into the work force WITH a degree, I'd be terrified to think my kids weren't on an equal footing.

When talking about a college education for the purpose of getting a high-paying job or putting you on the road to a great career, then I agree it doesn't always work out that way, and it's not for everyone. My friend's daughter has a degree in archeology and let's face it, there aren't too many openings in the digging field unless you want to travel to a remote part of the world looking for evidence of life in the paleolithic age.
However, the education and learning experience in college is something that is not invaluable. You have the opportunity to expand your knowledge, express thoughts in speech and writing, ask questions about abstract concepts, formulate theories and have a better understanding of why things happen in the world and in the community. That's something that nobody can ever take away.

Dwindle #148 - There are 4 books in the Gregory Maguire "Wicked" series. 1 - Wicked, 2 - Son of a Witch, 3 - A Lion Among Men, 4 - Out of OZ. I really enjoyed the first 2, the third just did nothing for me, and the 4th was ok in a "we need closure" kind of way (like Episode 3 of Star Wars movies brought us to where Episode 4 began - sorry! Nerd alert!).
I didn't go to college. I've only worked three places in my life and I'm 39. I make over 50k a year and it's all from experience. That's a good salary in the state of PA.
That relationship might not last long. Even as much money as the Kardashians make they still complain about having to give their mother 10%, the one who made it all happen for them.

Change is good unless you are trying to build a fan base. Kelly Ripa had Regis to make her famous, Kate had Jon and the kids, and this constant re-invention of her image is, well, leaving her home by the pool tweeting pictures of towels on a rickety metal shelf. IF she has any talent they need to find it fast and keep her constantly employed doing it.
OK, fueling speculation here ;-) I'm watching the Today Show and right before a commercial, they did a promo for upcoming shows and said "next week, the return of Kate Gosselin, Jimmy Fallon and (some band)". Hmmm... Kate and Fallon are linked via DWTS and I'm getting the sense that this might be more than just a coinkydink.
For the record, I have no problems with Kate doing DWTS again. Maybe, must maybe, she will go in with an attitude adjustment, be in better shape and have more peace of mind and be settled with regards to custody etc. She does have to make money to support a quite lavish lifestyle that she and the kids have (along with Jon, of course) and as long as the kids are not part of a televisions show documenting their lives, I say go for it and have fun. Plenty of the "stars" have brought their kids to the show during taping and have shown them behind the scenes, and I think that rather innocuous compared to potty training and poopy diapers.

There have been numerous studies done that the state of higher ed (universities/colleges) is very poor. They are not preparing students for JOBS, giving degrees in areas that will never provide a steady paycheck (archeology?). A number of law schools have been charged with faking scores and employment stats AFTER graduation to ensure enroll continues. They are FOR PROFIT entities, making money is the goal.
My son is 3 and if he wants to go to school, that's fine. If he doesn't, that's fine too. My financial goals for him are to get him to a place where he can support himself, in whatever manner he chooses. If current increases in tuition persist, it will be well over $100K for a BS at that time. WHICH IS ABSURD. They are focusing on providing ice rinks, state of the art theaters, and football stadiums, instead of education.
I think in the next 10 years we will see a shift in how BA/BS are perceived as well as the modes of attaining these degrees. The financial cost is WAY to high at this point to justify the investment, and it cannot keep increasing.
And I value education--I have a BA, an MAT (master's in teaching), and a graduate certificate for a 1-year professional course--seven years in college. Both my parents were teachers. But right now, without careful investigation and planning, it is too costly, puts people in debt and for most, will NEVER pay off in the long run. (and don't get me started on PhDs, unless you are in the sciences, you may as well flush that money down the toilet. PhD? Only if it is a FULL scholarship.).

Geez she's really playing up the pool and these 'movie nights.' As for Jon going to college, I don't think he would have had time before Kate got her claws into him, if he traveled and was working at a hotel when she met him. It's not for everyone, but meeting Kate certainly ended his chances of going at a later date. A degree or diploma, technical or academic, will expand your job opportunities for sure
Well put me in the group that believes in getting your college degree. Many jobs that didn't used to require a degree now require one. Where we live the police departments want recruits to have at least two years but prefer four. In the Federal Government you will get higher grades (GS system) if you've got the degree. Without the degree you'll be stuck at the lower grades (GS9 and below). For some internships with the government you've even got to show that you maintained a certain GPA throughout college to even be accepted into the program. Finally, we wanted our son to have the college experience becasue as we told him, once you graduate you're an adult.

I don't think anyone is saying, "Don't go to college." The discussion that needs to happen BEFORE making that decision is cost of school, how to pay, debt load and payback AFTER graduation, and the real-time prospect of actually landing a job in your field of study that will allow you to support yourself financially.
I think the 'go to college' movement is so strong that we've lost sight of what college is supposed to do: Prepare students for a JOB. A lot of colleges are not doing that, and most HS students just automatically enroll with no clue about what they want to do as a job or how to repay the 10s of thousands of dollars in debt they will accrue. They graduate $60K in debt, no experience and no job. That is not a recipe for a successful future.
With the high prices and debt load that accompanies college today, you'd be a fool NOT to have that conversation, as well as explore all other options available.
I work at a University and see first hand the benefits of getting a degree, especially an advanced degree. I also see the enormous debt these students take on just to get their degree. Put me in the column that a degree is valuable. What I also see are students being self directed in their studies to get through the degree as quickly as possible so as to minimize the expense. The downside is students don't get to explore other classes that they might be interested in. Sad. When students leave with their degrees, yes, they are in debt no doubt about that. But at the same time there are non-traditional opportunities available. For example, one student is going to Brazil for two years to work as a translator. Without that degree the student could not have applied for the job.
I do not have a degree. Within my university if I was to leave this position I would not be able to apply for it because this position now requires a degree. I can do the work, quite well thank you, but without a degree I would be shut out.

As for colleges, it depend on what career a young person wants. Training requirements vary. With only a HS Diploma you can't get too far...both my kids found mall jobs with theirs in the summer, but have gone on to university and college for their specific career aspirations. On the other hand you can be over-qualified. However, it is a good experience for many to develop maturity, work, ethic, social skills, knowledge base, networking etc, if not going to a 'party school!'
My days at university were some of the best of my life, made lasting friendships, and a solid career base. Times have changed and schools are expensive but it is an advantage for many; others may choose other routes, which is also fine, as long as one has some direction and life path in mind. JMO.
She is hitting the DWTS things really hard. Somehow, I just don't feel like she's been asked. She's been out of the limelight, and since her last appearance she has had 2 shows cancelled, a cruise cancelled for lack of interest, horrible book sales, and otherwise has dropped off the radar. They would have to think she would still be a ratings draw, and nothing she has done lately would indicate that she can still draw a crowd. If she's still popular, why were BOTH K+8 and Twist of Kate cancelled? Why didn't anyone want to cruise with her? Why did her last book end up in the dollar bin so fast? It's a big risk to put her on there when she seems to have lost what little popularity she had. Even last time, they inflated her scores and she still didn't last long. It would be so great if they had a bunch of amazing dancers--so good that it's hard to pick which one to vote for, and then people would tune in to see which of them turned out to be a little bit less amazing than the others. Having her--or Bristol Palin--would be like a sick joke. I hope they're not that dumb.
Also nothing wrong in taking a 'gap' year to save, figure out your options, and see the real world.as an above poster mentioned, no use going to a university with no goals or b/c of the 'go to college' movement in our society.
Living in Quebec, our kids go to CEGEP, a kind of college that replacees Grade 11 and 12 elsewhere. That is still affordable. dd will of course attend and get her degree in the geild she wants. If she wants university...then I will endette myself rather than have her pay the next 10 years. Enough is enough.

Trade, technical and vocational schools exist to prepare students for jobs. Colleges and universities are there to educate, create an environment that broadens your mind, teach you critical thinking, and give you the intellectual TOOLS to use as you set goals for your career. They teach work-related skills while you grow intellectually. If what you have learned there, and your intellectual and personal development is such that it is beneficial to you in landing a job in your chosen field, then you've hit the jackpot.

This is all very true, but the hate factor is there. The network doesn't care that her cruise was cancelled or that her show was dropped. They most likely are considering the fact that people are going to tune in just to see what a horrible job she does. And they could be correct. That would be the deciding factor if they offer it to her. It's all about money for them, NOT her unpopularity among those behind the scenes at DWTS.

As far as the college topic, it may also be family thing...my kids are third generation college grads( or enrolled), and that's simply 'what we do'. It may or may not lead to a lucrative career, but that degree opened doors that otherwise would have been shut.

You know what, couple weeks ago my cat go really, really lucky. I went to give him cat treats and I pour a few into the palm of my hand. Only, somehow I missed my hand. My cat, well he just thought, "OH BOY!" So he got a few extra because I spilled it. I'm not 8 years old and I still manage to make a mess on occasion. It happens to the best of us.
The thing about a mess is, it cleans up. You want to know what a real mess is? When you spill a bottle of red food coloring on your white tile kitchen floor. Yeah, I got skills to make great messes!
More she berates her kids for screwing up or spilling or whatever the less likely they are going to want to pitch in and do things. Kids like doing things because they do it right they feel like a grown up and are happy usually because you are just glad to see them pitch in around the house. She's going about it all wrong.
We don't actually know how Content Farmer handled dogfoodgate. Her public history would assume she handled it poorly. But even if she did it all "right", why would she tell it to everyone? Would she have shared that story with friends at her BBQ? It seems hateful toward the child to me.
I am never over her all or nothing attitude. ALL of the girls are better at details than ALL of the boys. Sure. Because boys and girls must be treated as a pack.
She really adhers to gender stereotypes. I can't imagine that in 8 kids a mixture of boys and girls may want to play soccer, or do dance, or art class. Cara alone is an example of a child who excels at sports and...*gasp* she is a girl.

Okay, at the risk of sounding like Captain Obvious wouldn't the dog just eat the spilled kibble off the floor? I am quite a bit older than 8, but I have been known to spill some kibble and my dog happily gobbles it up right off the floor.
UNLESS, the child has to carry the food to an OUTSIDE pen, in which case the dog couldn't help with the clean up. Oh wait, I forgot, Shoka loves to be outside!
Most moms are way too busy to dwell much on spilled dog food. Something like that is just a blip in the day of a real working mom. It makes me think of my mom. She's been retired for about 10 years now, and she spends her days pretty much doing what she wants. She volunteers a lot at her church, goes to the Y, has lunch with friends, etc. But when we talk she tells me about the minutiae of her life. I get to hear what cute thing Martha Stewart made on her show, what the neighbor's cat has been up to, and how many loads of wash she's done. I don't mind, but it's a testament to the fact that she's not really busy any longer. Just like Kate.

Do these kids, at ages 8 and 11, really need to see their mother humiliate herself again on national TV. Yes Kate, that is what you are...humiliating and embarrassing to your kids! I do not know what Kate's financial resources are, but she doesn't seem too worried, so I think she should spare these children the horror of seeing, or hearing about their mother's lame attempt at stardom through DWTS.

To Kate, it was "unfair" because they didn't give her special treatment, all 9's and 10's every time, and rig the vote so she goes all the way to the end--in light of the fact that she has eight kids. What Kate sees as "fair" everyone else sees as blatantly unfair. She's such a sociopath. I wrote about this attitude of hers in one of my recaps though now I can't remember which one.

This seems like a clever, contrived way to get a buzz going about Kate ramping up her comeback in to television. She can have the best PR person on the planet representing her, but talentless, is still talentless! WHAT does she have to offer other than having given birth to twins and sextuplets?
This public back and forth on Twitter with this new PR person is designed to create news, get people talking about Kate again. The conversation is over, no one is biting in my opinion. But if Kate is paying, I am sure Erin Braxton will make some calls, good luck with that.

Well, the cat is out of the bag. Kates probably doing a promo for the San Diego marathon(which I mentioned a while back, when she said she was doing a marathon, in june and was tweeting that guy who does those marathons) , since she tweeted that she is to call this PR person, at 3pm, so they can plan something, which is probably the marathon. BIG WHOOP! The Today show will a big bore.
I love the way, Kate makes her mornings with the kids, seem like such a terrible chore, to deal with, since she is hardly attentive to them when they are home.
I spent yesterday cleaning out the whole garage, and still have about 1/10 left to do, and plant the rest of my beddings. I am so sore today, I can hardly walk, if I sit too long, it's hard to move. But you know I hated doing it, but when I look at the inside of the garage now, I am proud of my cleaning, it looks beautyful. And the pain was worth it. As, for Jon doing an interview, so what! BIG WHOOP! AS, for Jon saying he was not going to do no more interviews, so did Cher, and other celebs, people, saying they quit, show biz etc, and hey they are all back. That is why Jon should have said: never say never or maybe in the future. He was quick to write off interviews then, but you know things change over months and years. Everyone gets older and for most of us, change happens, and either you go with it or you don't. Kate has never let go, Jon has. Jons interview can be compared to some person who did somethin a couple of decades or years ago, and the media is doing a follow-up. That is how I take Jon's interviews. Jon does have fans, just like Kate does, only difference is Jon does not use his kids, for his stuff, Kate does.

I thought the main problem every one had with Kate was her making the KIDS work..they aren't working now, so although I don't think she is talented, smart, or even a nice person, I would like for her to somehow make enough money to support her kids and their present lifestyle.

Why does she need a PR person? PR for WHAT? I'll say one thing - this woman is persistent. Delusional, yes, but she seems to think she's still relevant. She couldn't get 30 people interested enough to cruise with her. Why would she expect anyone would want to watch her on television or anywhere? She has money to pay a PR person, money to pay a bodyguard, money to go to NYC to get her hair done, but no money for spring break vacation, for movies, for gym classes or to send her kids to camp. I don't get it.
Notice how she says that she hasn't trained excessively enough for this marathon. She's already making excuses just in case she has a bad finish time.

She already has, in a sense -- Remember she argued that the state of PA should pay to keep the baby nurse on for an additional year because "society" created the technology that allowed her to birth a litter (I'm paraphrasing), so society owed her the help? This woman is nuts.
By Kate only running in these RNR marathons, does that mean she has some kind of arrangement with them for celebrity appearances? She was interviewed at the LV one, so are they paying HER to run these things (which would possibly also include Steve's fee)?

But Julie really hasn't gotten her any jobs over the past year. Yes, I think that has more to do with Kate than JMC skills as a publicist, but I can see why Kate is looking for different representation at this point.
If Kate wants to be the new face of R&R marathons, that's perfectly fine. I suspect that they're going to try and brand her as a fitness/healthy living guru who happens to also have 8 kids - sort of a "Pioneer Woman meets Shape Magazine". Could Kate pull it off? I've no idea. But I would give her credit for trying to craft a career based on her own abilities, and not on the backs of her children.
Kate being a mother of 8 (twins and sextuplets) will always be a part of her schtick. But Kate doing a show where the focus is 98% on her showing running tips, cooking tips, etc. and 2% showing the kids eating her food or her telling them how she prepares xyz for her kids and they love it is different than Kate doing a show which revolves around her kids and parenting them (as only Kate can).
Would I watch such a show? Probably not. I don't think Kate can ultimately pull it off, but perhaps with the right PR firm behind her she could. Who knows? I wouldn't watch because I know too much about her, via her past shows/appearances and the Gosselin blogosphere. So any words coming out of her mouth wouldn't be based on her experience or knowledge, they'd be fed to her via an earpiece. That level of phony isn't okay with me. Doesn't matter if it's Kate or anyone else.
Would I watch if Jon had a show? Perhaps. Depends on the show. But that's because I don't think Jon would try to pass himself off as an expert on something. I could see him hosting a local "Man about town" segment, which is what he kind of seems to be doing on Twitter anyway. I could see him hosting an "Evening Magazine" type of program. Beyond that? Not much.
I think Jon, however, is using his fame to cultivate his client base for his new business. More power to him.

I don't think Erin Saxton is her new PR, it sounds to me like this is the initial call so they can feel each other out. A PR person will basically take on anyone as long as they're willing to pay the going rate. The question is will Kate pay since it's coming out of her pocket now. I am late to the party but I still want to weight in on complaining about a child spilling dog food.
We always keep the dog food in a big bucket. There was a measuring cup in the bucket. To feed the dog all you had to do was fill the cup and dump the food into the bowl. No bulky bag to lug around or spill. I hope she is not making her boys lug around the 50 lb bag of dog food.
Did she not mention her initial interest in DWTS on Jay Leno via remote interview? She said something to the effect "I would love to do DWTS. I think it would so funny because I can not dance at all". I believe that interview was on the date the divorce was made final. I believe she already knew she had been cast. Jay Leno is NBC. She may indeed say how she would "love" to do the All-Star show - not, technically, announcing her casting as the cast cannot do that until the official announcement. It's how Kate rolls. If so, I hope they pair the cast with their original partners.
Tony won the challenge with the two young professionals who had not danced with each other. Tony choreographed their dance and mentored them. They beat Cheryl's team and Tristan's team. I loved the way the young dancers took the professional competition pose in front of the judges - and held that position during the entire time. Kate should take a lesson, she never knows what to do with hands.
Who wants to bet that Kate never, in her mind, had a "good" teacher. Not school, nursing school or, as we know, Tony?

Her new pr company would be TallGrass PR. I don't think they know what they are in for.
I can understand (to a degree) why Kate is trying to keep herself relevant...it's a heck of a lot easier to make A LOT of money for yammering as a speaker, endorsing products, going to events, etc., instead of a mediocre 9 to 5 job. She doesn't have a college degree, doesn't appear to have much in the way of intelligence, so if she can somehow eke out a living doing publicity work, then WHO CARES?

I think this is truly a pragmatic way to look at it. I too think Kate is limited. Me? I'd take the money and all that time on my hands to further my degree (or in Kate's case, get a degree and then move on) and invest in a long-term career.
The problem is that Kate's goals are all short term, and she's got many more years to support herself and fund her retirement.
She's a day-trader, while I'm a dollar cost averaging type of gal.
The odds are way, way against her succeeding long term, as they are with the vast majority of any regular "Joes" who comes into a lot of money in a relatively short period of time.

This is the best summation of what goes through my head when I think of Kate's over-the-top behaviors, particularly during many of the Kate + 8 episode.
The NYC episode is the most glaring example. Kate was drunk with attention, seemingly. The waving from the top of the tour bus, the dressing like a strumpet and screeching through the streets as she ran with ice cream, tits bouncing to and fro and most embarrassing, Kate asking the Captain Boat Man if she could drive the boat and then climbing up the side of the ship with crotch-baring shorts, boob-baring, braless halter top and 5inch sandals.
If that isn't manic with complete loss of social decorum, I don't know what is.
Personally it appears to me Kate Gosselin has run out of options when it comes to the public's perception of her as a greedy, self-absorbed, fame hungry, egotisical, demanding, ignorant, non-talented, phony, lazy you-know-what (rhymes with witch). Hiring a new PR agent is par for the course at this point if she hopes to land any paying gigs to feed her never-ending need for fame/fortune and of course, keep Steve Neild on the hook. In terms of DWTS the only way she lands a contract is if the producers believe it's good for ratings. The cast probably have some say but don't know how much in terms of overriding any decision where Gosselin is concerned. Bottom line Kate Gosselin has said so herself. She can't dance and 2nd, she's not controversial. She's just a huge snooze fest. How is that good for ratings? It's not ergo why would ABC need her? IMO they don't and the producers know it.
I haven't been able to get too worked up about Kate and the DWTS speculation. If she does get on, I won't be watching. I hate that show with a passion. There are so many commercials it drives me crazy. Maybe all TV is like that. If it's not Netflix streaming I don't watch. Hopefully I can cut the cord soon and stop TV altogether. It would be a nice savings and I almost never turn it on anyway.
Kate has to make money somehow. If it includes her making a fool of herself (and the kids aren't involved) that's the way it goes. "You get what you get and you don't get upset."
I am curious if her new PR "peeps" have a better grasp of her demographics than Alice Travel had. A LOT of the new and sometimes one-time tweeters are preteen and teenagers. Maybe Kate would be a good spokesperson for cheap, flashy, glittery makeup. Her peeps should take advantage of her arrested emotional development if they want to get their $$ worth.

I'm not impressed by this PR person's credentials. Rehabilitating Kate's image is going to be a full-time job for someone (or a team) for at least 6 months, so I hope they come ready to deal with her poor attitude, her unquenchable expectation of something for nothing, and her inability to speak articulately and intelligently on any subject. If they don't throw her into intensive media training immediately, there's not a hope of turning that "career" around. For all her repeating that she's got this wonderful "gift of gab," I've yet to see it function in an unscripted format. She just.ain't.got "it."
I also don't necessarily think Kate's been hired to do any promo for RnR Marathons. First, she's not an athlete and she's not a "fitness" personality. She might be aspiring to the latter, but that's going to be a long row to hoe. Second, she has barely mentioned her marathons over the past few months. I'll only believe she's been engaged as a spokesperson when and if we see her pushing the event hard-core, on Twitter and her web site. Last, I don't think RnR is really using "personalities" to market their product. Their "hook," if you will, is the rock 'n' roll vibe, with live concerts along the route and a party atmosphere. Where does SuperMom of 8 fit into that demographic? Ah . . . nowhere that I can see. And they got some REALLY bad feedback after LV, a fair amount of it directed toward Kate and her "star" treatment. So time will tell on that front, I by no means think this is a done deal.
Sounds she like she turned the spilled dog food in to a dresser drawer knob moment (and you just get the feeling the spoon surfaced as soon as filming stopped on that one). Poor kids.

FYI, Julie May still has Kate on her web site, so I don't think that relationship has been severed. But I believe Julie is her agent/manager, not her PR person. There is a difference in a business that is neck-deep in "brokers" and professional schmoozers. Granted, with a career that's as deep in the trough as Kate's is at the moment, it's hard to justify adding anyone, but it's possible that these people only get paid if certain thresholds are met (# times on TV, # mentions in mainstream media, etc.). And obviously, as far as we know, there is no relationship with this new PR company yet.
It makes me wonder, though, what she was doing for PR prior to this and whether someone has been fired. Lord knows her "PR" over the 8 months since TLC ditched her has been worse than nonexistent--in some professions it would qualify as malpractice. Widespread mainstream media coverage of Kate cruise and only a dozen takers? There's not even a rung for that on the pathetic scale.

Completely agree with you. I think Kate has nothing going on, but this half marathon, that she has HALF heartedly trained for. I think it was arranged at the same time as the LV one before all the controversy. I have also said that I think her old PR rep went with the TLC contract, and she is probably shopping for a new one. I think Kate's got nothin'. As I said before, DWTS would be stupid to reward her abominable past behavior on that show with another contract. I really don't think she even knew about the all stars til her twits told her.

If Kate contacted with new PR firm and not the other way around, I can just hear their first telephone conversation.
Kate says that she wants her own talk show, or excercise show, or food show, or dieting for woman show, or voice cartoon show, or comedy show, or publish a cookbook, or a book about anything,etc. In summary, Kate would tell this new PR firm that she wants to continue to be famous doing whatever it takes. Kate would sound like a fool to this new PR firm. Then Kate would tell the new PR firm all the many, many, many things that Julie May has tried over the past 10 months. Julie has contacted every tv show out there and no one would have Kate on. And no one would publish her cookbook that has already been published.
The point is Kate has to bring a talent to the table and can't say just put my name and face out there doing nothing. I think the PR person would laugh in her face. If Julie May couldn't find anything for Kate I doubt this new person can. I just hope the PR firm didn't contact Kate with something in mind for her.

Interesting to read their services page (see link). It seems one of their main focuses are authors. Their last paragraph is very telling for why Kate would work with them: "Media Training: We offer one-on-one media training in order to best prepare you for any media interviews, whether it’s with a television program, radio show or print publication. During this training session you will learn how to deliver your message effectively, answering techniques, what to wear and much more."
Maybe what Kate sent off with a kiss and a prayer was some kind of a book and she wants to be prepared for a book tour.

I sure hope DWTS snubs her--bringing her back would be a slap in the face for Tony. She sucked, she was lazy, she was mean, and she blames it all on poor Tony. They need to stand by him, not her. She is now a has-been, and he has worked hard for the show. He deserves respect. I truly hope DWTS and CA just ignore her. She isn't worth their time. She needs to learn that she will not get preferential treatment for bad behavior. You know, kind of like a two-year-old needs to learn the same thing. Only she's having to learn at 37...
As far as her new PR person--I think Julie CM was provided for 6 months by TLC to help her find new "opportunities". After that she was on her own, and in that time she has not done anything. If Kate wants the "image" she yearns for, I think a PR person is going to tell her that she should NOT be dragging Purseboy all over the map and allowing him to be seen. You cannot be "SuperMom of 8" traveling solo with your married (ahem) security. For example, according to Leigh, Steve hung out with her and Kate at the event in MO. This would be off-limits for any member of an entourage traveling with a "star" (yes, I know, we aren't really talking about a star, but in her own mind. . . .).
Lots of (important) professional women travel with PAs who are female. But Kate's problem with a competent, highly efficient, intelligent woman would be, um, competition? In any case, an image overhaul to what she thinks she wants to be would have to, I think, include ditching the male handler. It just makes her look like a pretentious, wimpy wannabe. Real women don't require handlers to get them through airports. And she is not recognizable enough to pretend that she's always in fear of being thronged by autograph-seekers. Most people don't have a clue who she is.
Unfortunately, getting rid of Stevie is probably high on Kate's list of no-nos, which would hardly get a new PR relationship off on the right foot, would it?
Just went over to the Dancing with the Stars voting...and there are thousands of comments. But hardly even a mention about her from all of these voters. Yes, Discovery/TLC does have a connection. Bill Geddes, for one, producer on The View, has produced more than 60 hours of programming for TLC. This is a very incestuous business, obviously, and for whatever reason, Geddes has always been a promoter of Kate.
Someone mention above the media training component of this PR firm. All I can say is, I am 100% sure that this was tried with Kate, on many occasions, and failed miserably. I don't think it's photoshopped I think she actually looks like that from surgery, botox and tanning. Her eyes are getting the cat look and she's only 36!!! I am really not that much younger than her and I could pass as her daughter. It's ridiculous but also sad how she has ruined her body.

I have no idea about Jon, I assume he received some kind of IT training, but I'm not sure I really get this question. Just because your parents are educated or you are "upper-middle class" doesn't mean that college is the right path for you.
College expenses are so out of control and there are so many good jobs you can do without a formal degree that I think we are moving away from the old mantra that everyone should go to college. There are many paths that can land you a great career. College is just one way.
Well, we now know Kates, mindset: one of her recent tweets, Kate says in reply to a 24 year old, that Kate wants to be peers with a 24 year old. So Kate thinks she is 24. Not 37. Now we know her mindset.

If I am remembering correctly, seems like after high school Jon went to Europe for a year?
I would think that since his dad was educated, and a dentist no less, I would think the finances were in place for Jon to attend college, and it was probably understood he would attend.
I realize that college isn't for everyone, and there are some careers that don't require it, but I don't think attending college and receiving a degree ever hurt anyone. And from what I've seen, it's a lot harder to attend once you are in the work force, and/or have a family.
A college degree may not help all, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have a degree...at least you have more options, imo.

It's hurt a lot of people who cannot get a job and have to pay college back with no job. You also spend a lot of your prime working years in college when you could be building experience and moving up at a job. It IS for many people though don't get me wrong, it obviously was for me.
I definitely used to believe that everyone should go to college if at all possible. I've completely changed in the past few years when I see so many people out of work and college costs through the roof. College is not the great deal it was even 10 years ago, for many people it's a money pit and a road to nowhere.
That's one of the nicest pictures I've seen of Kate. It's very flattering, no question about it. However, up close she looks nothing like that. You'd never know it's the same person.

I have never commented on Preesi's site but did go there to read at times. I never caught on how to navigate around it but enjoyed her finds. She really is a great researcher. She could find just about anything that was out there.
I commend Preesi for recognizing we are a huge part of what keeps Kate relevant. Kate has even thanked us for that but I see no harm in commenting on her blog and on here. I used to comment on articles and Kate's TLC blog. I tweeted some too until I realized too that I was only helping to keep her in the news. For a long time now this is the only place I share my thoughts on Kate. I've never seen Radar or other sites quote this blog nor have I seen it pop up in a Google search on her (another thing I rarely do anymore). I'm so glad I didn't see a rash of negative Kate comments on the DWTS vote for the all stars site. I really think that would only help to get her a place on the show. I guess I should be happy if she got a spot on it because she's working and not using the kids but honestly I just hate to see her get any job in showbiz because of how much she thinks she deserves it. I would love to see her get a job in the civilian world where she belongs and fade away. This no-talent, arrogant woman has no business next to stars who have skills and have worked so hard to get there.

I certainly see your points, but just think, if the nice checker that you lauded the other day, while she said she had two jobs had gone to college, at least she would have OPTIONS...a college education may not be for everyone, but not having an education certainly slams shut a lot of doors. Her not having an education has pigeon-holed her into a lifetime of low paying jobs, with no retirement benefits, and probably no health benefits either.
I am an optimist, an always hoping the next generation will have it better than the last..it's scary enough sending kids out into the work force WITH a degree, I'd be terrified to think my kids weren't on an equal footing.
There's pros and cons to having a degree, I am just of the opinion that a college degree doesn't hurt.

When talking about a college education for the purpose of getting a high-paying job or putting you on the road to a great career, then I agree it doesn't always work out that way, and it's not for everyone. My friend's daughter has a degree in archeology and let's face it, there aren't too many openings in the digging field unless you want to travel to a remote part of the world looking for evidence of life in the paleolithic age.
However, the education and learning experience in college is something that is not invaluable. You have the opportunity to expand your knowledge, express thoughts in speech and writing, ask questions about abstract concepts, formulate theories and have a better understanding of why things happen in the world and in the community. That's something that nobody can ever take away.

I think I must be the last of my kind (and VERRRRY old fashioned) because I TRULY believe everyone should get a higher (meaning college) education just for the sake of being better educated. I know the majority of people only view college as a means to better paycheck, but to me that is almost blasphemous :) I value education greatly and a secondary education should be expected, just for the sake of improving one self. Dwindle #148 - There are 4 books in the Gregory Maguire "Wicked" series. 1 - Wicked, 2 - Son of a Witch, 3 - A Lion Among Men, 4 - Out of OZ. I really enjoyed the first 2, the third just did nothing for me, and the 4th was ok in a "we need closure" kind of way (like Episode 3 of Star Wars movies brought us to where Episode 4 began - sorry! Nerd alert!).
I didn't go to college. I've only worked three places in my life and I'm 39. I make over 50k a year and it's all from experience. That's a good salary in the state of PA.
I think Jon did the Microsoft IT and then went back and got a higher level after they were married. I think it was mentioned in MB.
That relationship might not last long. Even as much money as the Kardashians make they still complain about having to give their mother 10%, the one who made it all happen for them.

For the record, I have no problems with Kate doing DWTS again. Maybe, must maybe, she will go in with an attitude adjustment, be in better shape and have more peace of mind and be settled with regards to custody etc.
She does have to make money to support a quite lavish lifestyle that she and the kids have (along with Jon, of course) and as long as the kids are not part of a televisions show documenting their lives, I say go for it and have fun.
Plenty of the "stars" have brought their kids to the show during taping and have shown them behind the scenes, and I think that rather innocuous compared to potty training and poopy diapers.

There have been numerous studies done that the state of higher ed (universities/colleges) is very poor. They are not preparing students for JOBS, giving degrees in areas that will never provide a steady paycheck (archeology?). A number of law schools have been charged with faking scores and employment stats AFTER graduation to ensure enroll continues. They are FOR PROFIT entities, making money is the goal.
My son is 3 and if he wants to go to school, that's fine. If he doesn't, that's fine too. My financial goals for him are to get him to a place where he can support himself, in whatever manner he chooses. If current increases in tuition persist, it will be well over $100K for a BS at that time. WHICH IS ABSURD. They are focusing on providing ice rinks, state of the art theaters, and football stadiums, instead of education.
I think in the next 10 years we will see a shift in how BA/BS are perceived as well as the modes of attaining these degrees. The financial cost is WAY to high at this point to justify the investment, and it cannot keep increasing.
And I value education--I have a BA, an MAT (master's in teaching), and a graduate certificate for a 1-year professional course--seven years in college. Both my parents were teachers. But right now, without careful investigation and planning, it is too costly, puts people in debt and for most, will NEVER pay off in the long run. (and don't get me started on PhDs, unless you are in the sciences, you may as well flush that money down the toilet. PhD? Only if it is a FULL scholarship.).
Are the Gosselin kids out of school for the summer yet? If not, when.

Geez she's really playing up the pool and these 'movie nights.' Bet it will be 'her' season of DWTS...she thinks she invented popcorn with a treat- my kid used to throw a few M&Ms or chocolate chips in fresh hot popcorn for a gooey treat. As for Jon going to college, I don't think he would have had time before Kate got her claws into him, if he traveled and was working at a hotel when she met him. It's not for everyone, but meeting Kate certainly ended his chances of going at a later date. A degree or diploma, technical or academic, will expand your job opportunities for sure
Well put me in the group that believes in getting your college degree. Many jobs that didn't used to require a degree now require one. Where we live the police departments want recruits to have at least two years but prefer four. In the Federal Government you will get higher grades (GS system) if you've got the degree. Without the degree you'll be stuck at the lower grades (GS9 and below). For some internships with the government you've even got to show that you maintained a certain GPA throughout college to even be accepted into the program. Finally, we wanted our son to have the college experience becasue as we told him, once you graduate you're an adult.

I don't think anyone is saying, "Don't go to college." The discussion that needs to happen BEFORE making that decision is cost of school, how to pay, debt load and payback AFTER graduation, and the real-time prospect of actually landing a job in your field of study that will allow you to support yourself financially.
I think the 'go to college' movement is so strong that we've lost sight of what college is supposed to do: Prepare students for a JOB. A lot of colleges are not doing that, and most HS students just automatically enroll with no clue about what they want to do as a job or how to repay the 10s of thousands of dollars in debt they will accrue. They graduate $60K in debt, no experience and no job. That is not a recipe for a successful future.
With the high prices and debt load that accompanies college today, you'd be a fool NOT to have that conversation, as well as explore all other options available.

I work at a University and see first hand the benefits of getting a degree, especially an advanced degree. I also see the enormous debt these students take on just to get their degree. Put me in the column that a degree is valuable. What I also see are students being self directed in their studies to get through the degree as quickly as possible so as to minimize the expense. The downside is students don't get to explore other classes that they might be interested in. Sad. When students leave with their degrees, yes, they are in debt no doubt about that. But at the same time there are non-traditional opportunities available. For example, one student is going to Brazil for two years to work as a translator. Without that degree the student could not have applied for the job.
I do not have a degree. Within my university if I was to leave this position I would not be able to apply for it because this position now requires a degree. I can do the work, quite well thank you, but without a degree I would be shut out.

Unfortunately...yes!! She'll think she was brought back by 'popular' demand, not realizing it's UNpopular good-for-a-laugh demand.
As for colleges, it depend on what career a young person wants. Training requirements vary. With only a HS Diploma you can't get too far...both my kids found mall jobs with theirs in the summer, but have gone on to university and college for their specific career aspirations. On the other hand you can be over-qualified. However, it is a good experience for many to develop maturity, work, ethic, social skills, knowledge base, networking etc, if not going to a 'party school!'
My days at university were some of the best of my life, made lasting friendships, and a solid career base. Times have changed and schools are expensive but it is an advantage for many; others may choose other routes, which is also fine, as long as one has some direction and life path in mind. JMO.
She is hitting the DWTS things really hard. Somehow, I just don't feel like she's been asked. She's been out of the limelight, and since her last appearance she has had 2 shows cancelled, a cruise cancelled for lack of interest, horrible book sales, and otherwise has dropped off the radar. They would have to think she would still be a ratings draw, and nothing she has done lately would indicate that she can still draw a crowd. If she's still popular, why were BOTH K+8 and Twist of Kate cancelled? Why didn't anyone want to cruise with her? Why did her last book end up in the dollar bin so fast? It's a big risk to put her on there when she seems to have lost what little popularity she had. Even last time, they inflated her scores and she still didn't last long.
It would be so great if they had a bunch of amazing dancers--so good that it's hard to pick which one to vote for, and then people would tune in to see which of them turned out to be a little bit less amazing than the others. Having her--or Bristol Palin--would be like a sick joke. I hope they're not that dumb.
Also nothing wrong in taking a 'gap' year to save, figure out your options, and see the real world.as an above poster mentioned, no use going to a university with no goals or b/c of the 'go to college' movement in our society.
Living in Quebec, our kids go to CEGEP, a kind of college that replacees Grade 11 and 12 elsewhere. That is still affordable. dd will of course attend and get her degree in the geild she wants. If she wants university...then I will endette myself rather than have her pay the next 10 years. Enough is enough.

aggiemom -- The Dollmaker. My sister saw the movie with Jane Fonda and read the book. She says the movie is sweet, much like watching the Waltons. She agrees that it is difficult to get into the story until you are attached to Gertie.

I just introduced sister (Joyce) to this site. She isn't too interested in Kate. But, does not like her from what little she knows. She, however, likes everyone here a lot!
I think the 'go to college' movement is so strong that we've lost sight of what college is supposed to do: Prepare students for a JOB. A lot of colleges are not doing that,

Colleges and universities are there to educate, create an environment that broadens your mind, teach you critical thinking, and give you the intellectual TOOLS to use as you set goals for your career. They teach work-related skills while you grow intellectually. If what you have learned there, and your intellectual and personal development is such that it is beneficial to you in landing a job in your chosen field, then you've hit the jackpot.

Kate mentions that they have movie and popcorn family nights. The sheeple follow suit. What a great idea, Kate! Can't wait to see this movie or that movie! If Kate said that this weekend the family activity is dumpster diving, would the sheeple do the same?

I am sorry to see Preesi's Gosselin section end but I think the time is right for it. I have always enjoyed this blog too. I don't post as much as I used to but I still enjoy reading everyone's comments. So I wish Preesi well and I'm sure she will still have a wonderfully entertaining site without the Gosselin chatter.

You said that college is to prepare the kids for a job - I think that it's to prepare them for a career and yes, there is a difference. It's also the first time that many kids are out on their own and prepares them for life. You sound very bitter about college and I'm sorry for that. No it's not for everyone, but I think kids should be encouraged to go if that's what they want. If all we did was worry about debt we'd have a nation of burger flippers at McDonalds (not that there's anything wrong with that). Education is valuable. There are scholorships and grants available also to help with the costs, there's also community college. OK, off my soapbox.

This is all very true, but the hate factor is there. The network doesn't care that her cruise was cancelled or that her show was dropped. They most likely are considering the fact that people are going to tune in just to see what a horrible job she does. And they could be correct. That would be the deciding factor if they offer it to her. It's all about money for them, NOT her unpopularity among those behind the scenes at DWTS.

What kind of reaction is that to the quote that was tweeted? Was she just looking for another opening to trash her "haters" or was she referring to something specific?
I love this quote shit, Kate puts on twitter, too bad, Kate and her fans don't follow what the quote says. Especially the complaint quote. That one is your kind of quote Kate too bad you don't follow it. Or any of the other ones.

If your readers were offered the opportunity of a Kate-less thread, they would jump on it!
As far as the college topic, it may also be family thing...my kids are third generation college grads( or enrolled), and that's simply 'what we do'. It may or may not lead to a lucrative career, but that degree opened doors that otherwise would have been shut.
