Donny Osmond: 'It would have been nice to have a simple life'

Donny and Marie are doing their own celebrity cruise next month, which made us wonder how, 40 years later, they feel about their childhoods in the spotlight

And it turns out, there are some disturbing similarities to the Gosselin kids.

Children made to work when sick.

The Gosselin kids had to work when they had double ear infections and were severely constipated. Donny had to work when he had appendicitis. Although he was experiencing severe symptoms, 15-year-old

Donny put on his show before being rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.

"It was only years later that I thought: 'I'd had a major operation, I almost lost my life," Donny said.

Losing their money.

When asked about his family spending his money he earned as a kid, Donny said, "I have never asked for the details. What was I going to do about it?"

Osmond's father and brother Alan are reportedly plagued with guilt over misguided investments that nearly bankrupted the family.

"Choosing" to be famous.

"I think I was coerced into the business, the Osmond Business," Donny said. "I look at the alternative - a very simple life. It would have been nice to have a simple life." You mean, Donny wishes his life were more mediocre?

Donny once wrote to his mother begging to let him come home. His parents said no. "I was nine years old and on a six-week tour of Sweden with my father, playing three shows a day."

"I've been in it all my life and I don't really know anything else. I've never really known it any other way and maybe that's an advantage. Maybe it's a disadvantage," Marie said.

As for the Donny and Marie cruise, it's nice to know there are celebrities out there who are honest about what you are getting for your money. Their cruise is also jam-packed full of events, and sails next month during a Hurricane-free time.

I wonder if Kate knows that kids can also access the internet through a DSi or Wii-all you need is wi-fi. I think the kids are smarter than she is-they will find ways to get online.

Claire said...

Isn't the point that we want the children to retain their privacy?

I guess I'm confused.

Marie said...

The whole thought of this gives me a sour feeling in my stomach.

I babysit on occasion, regular kids I've known for years. I couldn't imagine people who you hire would betray their employer. I guess because I wouldn't I would feel a sense of need to protect the kids I work for. I'm not a nanny but I babysit enough to know my kids.

The fact that if this is real that a parent would be so clueless is heartbreaking.

Or the fact that if this is fake, it is so sickening someone would go to such a length to be fake. Is mind-boggling and disturbing! I thought most people quit playing pretend and grew up.

Why do people change behind a computer screen? I mean isn't Twitter like a Facebook where you use your real name and it's more validated or whatever?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Claire, I think all of us believe in the children's privacy. Which is exactly why we are so disturbed by this. Unfortunately it has to be sort of faced head on or else the impact of a fake account like this is lost. I guess a greater good kind of thing. The problem with never saying a word or posting a pic about the kids? Is that then you also are not able to emphasize how truly horribly they've been exploited. Sort of like talking about how bad conditions are in a child labor factor doesn't compare to a photo of a child who lost his arm. That gets people's butts in gear.

From Runners World---
What do your kids think about your running? Do they understand it?

Yes. I think the best part of running and the best part of running this marathon is the fact that my kids see me pick a goal and they see me complete it. The question of the day when I pick them up at the bus stop is, "How many miles did you run today?"

The other day, I made them guess. We're to the point now where of course they'd never guess 20. They were like, "Twenty miles!?" It's so funny. The days that I run—they're very encouraging. They think it's amazing. Cara runs with me sometimes. She'll run a mile or two with me, and then I'll swing around and drop her off. She has run some 5-Ks for school. She's very into running.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Wow--stupid me! When my selfish kids came home from school, all they wanted to do was talk about their day....Definite proof that Kate is the best Mom ever.

What kid doesn't want to play "Guess how many miles Mommy ran today" after a nice long and refreshing bus drive home., followed by "Guess what I ate today", "Guess how much I weigh", "What size am I" and "What color toenail polish do I have on". I am sure that they all wait their turns , like good little Gosselins, according to their birth order.

This is so tragic and sad....Kate, please get help--you are so sick...

Well, I'm exercising my free speech in that the links to Cara's private photo be taken down.

Clearly Kate is aware of this twitter account. If she won't stop the exploitation, we at least can. Can't we? She is aware the account exists. Not much else one can do but help stop this poor child's further exploitation, be it by her self or a sick fan or a scorned former employee.

Please reconsider.

And actually I posted something about this earlier but I can't get over how she completely contradicts herself during that passage.

Seriously Kate? Getting so mixed up in your lies you can't even keep them straight for more than one sentence at a time? Pathetic.

I don't think that those are the childrens twitter accounts. If you check who they are following they both are following lots of celebrities. If they indeed were on twitter because there friends are on then why no friends? I truly believe these are fake. As far as the pictures, the ones only one I wonder about is the one of the twins in the car. The rest of them have been on Kate's account or do not have any faces with them so could be anybodies.

Jennifer said...

FWIW, in the road trip episode where Cara is upset that Hannah was wearing her underwear, she also says that "she's 7; I'm 12." Cara is 11 years old. So I don't know if discrepancies in fact are necessarily evidence that it isn't Cara.

Pg is from Canada and she says she has seen all these photos. She has 5,000 photos or some astronomical figure like that. She says it is a fake. I think if it was real the numbers would be off the charts. It does appear to be someone who knows them very well i.e. a teen who is an obsessed fan or even an adult. Some of them who are saying they are huge fans of KT, most likely are rather huge fans of the kids. There is a You Tube of a kid crying for C. KT is such an idiot. She is inviting so much trouble on herself and the kids by interacting with these fans some of whom are very mean behind her back. But then she knows this and gets off on it. She likes her fans mean and lean much like herself.

Marie, there are so many things an 11 yr. old child should not be seeing on the internet. Kate has no control over them going on, even if she thinks she controls them. You want to inspire and teach your children to do the right thing and why, not demand or control their every move.

These girls are going to do what their friends do and the internet is a big, exciting thing to them. Kate has no idea her children would do such a thing.Big wake-up call is coming for her.

I think I know where you were going with your statements about Kate thinking she controls the twins, you're right. She hasn't a clue and we already know about the pedophiles and her kids, but Kate says she doesn't know him. WTH!

Kate, if you were really in tune with your kids, you would be very hands on at this delicate time of child into girl change. I hope they are not on the internet, that scares the hell out of me. Wake up Kate, before it is too late and something happens.

Kate, this is your job now, with C&M about to become young women, not gallivanting around the country talking like a valley girl and bragging about running. You are a liar, you did not run 10 miles, you didn't even dream about it, because that would really be exhausting.

You are exhausted everyday for no reason, so running 10 miles, ha, no effin way.Your job is to be a mother right now and always has been.It better start quickly, the twins are headed for big trouble with you in charge.

Jon can't mother them ,only you can. You could impress everyone by taking a stand and getting off social media and protect those eight innocent lives you created as ATM's.

Sorry, rant over. No offence to you Marie, I know what you mean, I think about Kate's control. The thought of the harm that those girls could come into with that ditz-headed, selfish witch just set me off. Sorry.

Teresa, I agree with you about telling Jon about C being on twitter.I really don't think Kate has any clue or wants to have any kind of mother/daughter type relationship with those kids, unless it would make her some money.

I agree and it really does make sense to wait until one of the twins can help Kate with the 2 carts. You just can't do that alone, so either Kate takes help or she usurps resources from the store for her own personal use (like she's done at Target etc.).
Additionally, I don't think it's working, it's what a kid should do at her age; Help out, be given some responsibility and learn about shopping. Great skills. I just hope Kate didn't make her run the whole time since Cara was helping Kate ;-)
About the Twitter pics on the "Cara account". Yes, some look like the just had to be taken by Cara in private moments. But... couldn't Cara have sent the pics to friends, and then they sent them to someone, and so one and so on?
If this isn't Cara, it's someone who has a pipeline to personal photos.
Scary.

I don't have a problem with one of the twins helping Kate with the groceries.

As far as these fake Cara accounts, this is very sad. This is exactly what happens when you open up your life, and your childen's, for public viewing. It makes it too easy for bullies and nutjobs and Kate just keeps the cycle going thinking only about herself. I really get upset about stuff like this because I truly believe Cara and Mady are in for some rough teen years, thanks to their mother.

Once a Viewer said...

TLC, I agree with both your comments. The kids, all of them, can help. But Kate goes shopping TOO much- she should just go to one of her four freezers, thaw some milk & cow, and open a can or two or three...for dinner.

As for the accounts, I have thought they were fake and done by a person who knows a lot about Cara. It doesn't seem like a sinister character, but still, that potential remains. Anyhow, FaceBook is the one kids usually start out with. Many parents ban Formspring.

Pity Party said...

Yes, it must be bedlam and chaos bringing in 2 cartloads of grocery, though I have never done that but my one is enough. I am sure she is grateful the kids are big enough to help her now.

Kate knew the risks of HOMs when she got pregnant. Many, including me, think she wanted this huge brood of kids but never thought beyond the freebies and cameras. She made her own bed. Now she is finally sleeping in it. She will be grocery shopping a hell of a lot more in the future. It would be nice for the kids if she stopped acting so put out and exhausted just doing the basics for them.

It is indeed so sad. I'm not sure I believe the kids really do this, since kids always want to talk about their day at school, not how their mother's stupid day was. And yet, I think these kids have been conditioned to say what appeases Kate and makes Kate happy--naturally, asking all about her.

Where did that obsessed fan get 5,000 pics? How is that possible?

So wait which one do we do, do we approach her in public or not approach her? Because in the Philly episode she wanted the room cleared of fans. And in her book, she said these kind of fan encounters are annoying.

Not to mention, why would you encourage perfect strangers to approach you when you are out with your CHILD. God Kate, focus on your child for once.

Tucker's Mom said...

The vast majority of video evidence shows that Kate avoids "fans" and gawkers at all cost.
In the Philly episode, Steve physically blocked a woman (I think with her kids) in the Franklin Institute. Her face looked incredulous, as if to say "hey, we're just fans that want to say hello!". Kate ingnored them entirely and shuffled everyone out of a side door.
Of course there are numerous examples from the RV trip. So, no, I don't believe for a minute that Kate wants anyone approaching her when she's not on official duty.
Hell, look at her recent visit to The Grove. Kate obviously did not want to take pics with fans but once again, her "road manager" told her to buck up and do it.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

For God sakes even in the Runner's World article she talks about fans circling her (gimme a break!) and how she just can't interact with them then.

Wouldn't you assume, okay, that means don't approach her if she's busy with something, like running, or shopping?

WHICH IS IT?

I've never seen a celeb talk out of two sides of their mouth this egregiously.

They hung up a sheet between the RVs so no one would see them! Who lives like that?

You're right, there's just way too much evidence out there she can't be bothered for her to change her tune now. No wonder the fans are so afraid to approach her. For good reason.

librarylady said...

She feels "protected" by twitter. Using it to form an image. Because that person actually didn't approach her, she could say "oh, you should have!" because the customer actually didn't. And the next time someone does try to approach her, she will brush them off, move on quickly, and then when called out on twitter she will say "oh, sorry, I was in a hurry" or some such thing. That is why she seems all casual and friendly on twitter, she hides behind it and is using it to foster a false personality that she doesn't have to live up to in regular life.

Dallas Lady said...

The whole thing about the kids asking her about her every day after school just has me shaking my head with sadness.

Sure, it's healthy for kids to know their parents are people, too, and have interest, too, but Kate seems to take it 100% the other direction: it's ALL about her, NEVER about the kids.

When my kid was in elementary school, I loved nothing more than to sit down with her and listen to her talk about her day. Then we'd talk together about what we should make for dinner, and she'd help me. Or we'd play a card game before starting dinner. Fun times. It was never 100% about me. Or even 50%. She was the kid, I was the mom.

Kate seems to think giving birth means having a captive audience.

Gee, did I miss something here? Does Kate think the second coming is soon and is making sure there's enough frozen pizzas for Steve and box-o-wine and salads for her? Who in hell needs 4 freezers, complete waste of energy and the food will be freezer burnt.I can and freeze my own fresh stuff and it tastes great, and saves money.

She could get fresh every week or even daily ,if she wanted.I hate food in the freezer for that long, yuk.No way she feeds those kids that much food, it would take a couple of years to do that, and theres no reason to.

Milk frozen is gross and I have never seen her give them milk, not once. She's just bragging again. She also said she washed the kitchen floor 3 times a day, and yet for all the years that show was on, not one shot of her ever doing it! Kate, you lie about everything, you loser.

She also had to have 2 washers and dryers, and not once did I see her doing laundry- the help did it. She makes it sound like she had to carry it on her head down to the river, and scrub it clean with her washboard and bucket.

She should write a novel about all the lies she's told! Best seller, but she forgets her lies and has to make up new ones.

See, the thing is if it were "perfect" I would be more suspicious. Kids type fast and are careless and get confused. Sixth grade vs. grade 6 is a little odd. Still up in the air on this. Kids an be confused about when school starts and stops, what day it is, what date it is. Kids can exaggerate what grade they are in, etc. The mature thing, well, Cara is mature. That doesn't throw me off at all. I know kids who can absolutely type as maturely as she does. She may speak properly but her interests are definitely still those of an 11 year old.

She has a pic of L.A. when she was there for DWTS that has a ton of snow on it--there was indeed a lot of snow when Kate was on DWTS. It wasn't just a stock photo pulled of LA--that really was LA at that specific time. Also, the location in the photo is just about right for DWTS- Hollywood. That's where that photo is taken from, I can tell from the angle.
http://twitpic.com/16z8tb

*********************

Come on. You cannot state that this pic is not a stock photo because there is snow on the mountains. Kate Gosselin's run on DWTS is not the only time in the history of Los Angeles that there have been snow-covered mountains.

Why are you so hell bent on "proving" that the account is real?

Bill's Mom said...

I suppose I'm in the minority, but I don't think taking Cara to the grocery store at night was the best decision and probably done for the wrong reason. Yes, two carts can be handled by one person! I've done it on more than once; not on a regular basis but around holidays or out-of-town guests coming for extended visits. You can fill one cart, take it to the cash register area and then fill the second cart or push one cart with one hand while pulling the second cart behind you. I choose to push one cart while pulling the second cart behind me, but have never inconvenienced a store employee. I have been divorced for many years and have had to learn ways to do things on my on, while working six and seven days per week.
If Kate worked a full time job, I would agree with taking Cara with her to the grocery store on a weekend, but since she doesn't have a full time job, the kids have a long school day, homework, and an early bedtime as well an early morning wake up time, I disagree with this action.
Since Jon had the kids all weekend, why didn't she go to the grocery store then? I think it all relates to her laziness. And who was at home with the kids during this time? Was it Mady or was the sitter there?
Based on Kate's comments and everything I have read here, it appears that Mady and Cara will basically be raising the other six.

Correct - something about making a fake Facebook page about Ellen. It was extremely nasty. Her Twitter name is paige_kate8fan and she has a You Tube link to Gosselin stuff: http://www.youtube.com/nbr1kategosselinfan A teenager (perhaps) who goes from smarmy sweet to vile cursing.

She also freaked out at the Statue of Liberty when fans in a souvenir shop were near them. She made the kids get flashlight statue replicas instead of browsing ( which they had so much fun doing in Chinatown where not as many people recognized them, Miss Kill- joy) She was also rude about the 'smells' in Chinatown...but still talked about 'making memories.'

Milk. No, the only time we saw them have milk was at the farmer's when the had glass after glass of chocolate milk & Kate said they were so full they did not need dinner. She did put milk in their cereal, but the kids did not seem to like it -even Hannah was sent to timeout for not wanting it- maybe they aren't used to the taste of plain milk?

We saw her Swiffer the floor in the old house and use a dustpan & little broom. That's not what I call washing the floor.

I would think she should make a little pocket of time for EACH child to tell about his/her day maybe at dinner? How else will she know what's going on/plus yes, kids love to tell their parents about their day...usually. and I am glad to hear about it even though my kids are older teens now. They do ask me about my day if they know something special was happening but little kids don't as much..they assume we just reappear in their lives when school is over !

From what I'm reading here, it sounds like the twitter account (Cara's, allegedly) is fake. That being said, I think it is just another example of negative outcomes that result from the fact that the Gosselin children were exposed to the world and became celebrities without being able to choose whether they wanted this or not....or whether they wanted to have to deal with the outcomes/results of this....such as this fake twitter site. They are going to have to deal with this and much more as a result of a decision their parents made for them....to expose them to the public as young children.

And just for argument's sake, let's say it is real. Then it completely contradicts what Kate claimed in her blog.

My personal opinion? I don't see Kate even knowing much of what the heck her children are doing simply because she could care less, too busy with herself, and just too "exhausted" to be keeping track of that many children and what they do.....and she leaves most of this to the caretakers that are hired. Steve probably knows more about her children and what they're into and what they're doing than Kate does.

And I say this even though I know that typically, a narcissistic mother will often ignore boundaries when it comes to one of their children....often a female child....and intrude upon the child's privacy beyond what would be considered normal or reasonable. But at this time, at least, Kate does not seem overly focused in any negative way on any of her daughters....yet....so I believe that in real life....what she wrote on that blog was a bunch of crap.....much like most of the other stuff she writes in her blogs.

We have one of those freezers in a closet and they hold a huge amount of food. Four of them would hold way more than any reasonable family of 9 people could eat....even in a month. One freezer....maybe two at the most....but four would be ridiculous and would waste food due to freezer burn. There is just no way 9 people could eat that much food over a month....not even close.

I tend to not believe about 95-99% of the things Kate claims in her blogs. She just seems so disinterested in her children....and I think she just makes things up when she blogs....pretending she is this June Cleaver mother when in reality, she is anything but. And this is why she is constantly contradicting herself, caught in multiple lies, etc....she can't keep her imaginary life straight.....and then to boot, I don't think she's even the one that writes many of the blogs attributed to her.....and that they are just using her face/name to attach to blogs someone else writes.

And...regarding the "hater" comments on her twitter page...that she has blocked: I do believe she knows about these, not that she reads every one but she knows they are there and that they continue. But I think that the reason she does not discourage them is because on some level, she IS aware that it was the "haters" who were mainly responsible for extending her 15 minutes. That despite how self-centered she is, she does realize the benefits of having "haters" to cause all sorts of conflict and to keep her relevant.
I don't think she enjoys ANY attention necessarily, but may realize that the negative attention has played a huge role in keeping her a celebrity.

Good description, kids assume we just reappear in their lives when school is over.

A kids' world is a very selfish one. They are the world, and everyone else just comes in and out of their world. Again, this is evolutionary. The most selfish demanding kids survived because those are the kids that ate and were sheltered. Caveman kids that thought of others got forgotten about and died :). It is hard for a kid this age to conceptualize that Kate has a life (barely) while they are at school and does things important and interesting (sort of) outside of the kids. As they get older their worlds become less and less selfish and they become more aware of other people doing things outside of them and usually develop interests in others.

Anyway, I say all this because for kids this age to be THIS interested in her is not normal, and I can only assume they have been conditioned to do this, and it's unnatural.

And proof these kids don't care? Kate went deep sea fishing for EIGHT HOURS without them, per her own admission. They stayed behind and had a good time with the nanny. When Kate came back, the kids weren't all, how was it what did you catch? Nope, Collin was like look what WE did all day we caught a crab!

Kate of course blew him off and started talking all about HER trip, nothing about what the kids did all freaking day long. If a kid hears that enough I suppose he gets used to just asking what Mommy did and won't bother trying to tell her what HE did. Sad.

But still, you won something very valuable from that time. Bonding. Finding out what made your kid tick today. Enjoying the gift that is your daughter. Letting her know that for that moment, she was the only person in your world.

It is my belief that a child who can do that with one or both parents will be far more open and far less secretive as they grow up. They know they can speak freely
and calmly about issues and thoughts. So
important to have that soft place to go and just talk.

Also, working together creates great bonds. I used to help my mom bake, make candy and clean the house. It was all good.

Thanks for sharing that.

I posted this story several topics ago.

Kate takes just one of the twins to San Diego. They are sitting in a spa getting pedicures. Twin turns to Kate and asks, "Are you happy, Mommy?" Kate sarcastically responds, "Am I in a spa?" It has been years since I saw that episode. But, I clearly remember thinking at the time, what a strange question for a young child to ask. And, what a cold response from a mother. It was one of my first realizations of how dysfunctional Kate's relationship with her children really is.

There is no way the amount of adoration kHate claims is heaped on her is accurate. My bullsh!t meter says it's about 90% exaggeration.

I believe the kids have given her a compliment before and it made her feel good. I can see that feeding her ego and then kHate adding it to nearly EVERY story she fabricates. Because normal/average is not enough for Supermom™.

She doesn't have a crazy day and do 3 loads of laundry. She does 33 loads. Making 50 cookies isnt impressive enough - kHate makes 400. She doesnt have 3-4 kids she has eight (count 'em, I did.)

She is so out of touch with reality, and what is left of her own family, that she just embellishes EVERYTHING she says. Even the stories based on some actual truth. She just tacks on a few extra numbers to the story thinking it will be even MORE impressive to mediocre folks.

Blecchh. What a nasty woman.

I haven't had time to carefully go over those accounts, but I do have a question. I noticed the UK spelling realised and recognised. Do Canadians follow the UK spelling? I also noticed French words, as well as the reference to boxing day sales. Is that more prevalent in Canada than it is here?

It seems that the mistakes on school dates, grade, and school activities is big reveal of a fake account. Why is it that an imposter would go to such lengths as to pose as a kid, but then be so careless with school events? Possibly because the person doesn't have access to this information. There are numerous errors as far as school dates, times, etc. and not just the beginning date of school, the grade, or winter break this year. There are errors that go back to when the account was created.

Yes, I'm from Canada ( but now live in the Northeast) and we do follow UK spelling, like colour rather than color etc, and Grade 4 as opposed to 4th grade ( as someone mentioned) and yes, Boxing Day is from the British tradition, sadly having became a shopping extravaganza... I think the imposter maybe a Canadian child/teen, due to these discrepancies and those you & others have pointed out.

Candian East Coaster said...

Here in Canada we flip flop back and forth between UK spelling. Example: Recognized and realized we spell differently. Neighbour, colour and humour are spelled in the UK fashion.

In Canada Boxing day sales are to us what your Black Thursday (?) Friday(?) sales are to the US.

Hope this helps.

Boxing Day USED to be the day that people boxed up food and gifts for the needy and distributed it the day after Xmas. It's a Commonwealth country traditional holiday. Now we get flyers in the mail three weeks before Boxing Day. A lot of people give money & gift cards at Christmas so they can shop the day after Christmas which sucks (I think so anyway).

Anyway, I googled Cara Gosselin images and about 44 pages came up. That's a lot of photos and of course the majority of them were ones we've seen although I just glanced through, but some looked unfamiliar. ??

And also could it be possible that maybe Cara has an account by proxy through one of her bffs at school?

Layla said...

Okay, I'm confused...she claims that she only uses 3 chicken breasts to feed 8 kids. If she uses so little meat, then why does she need 4 chest freezers? She has never mentioned freezing milk before...in fact, she said she "never, ever, ever, ever" buys milk unless it is on sale. And we all know that when organic milk is on sale, there's no way you're going to be able to get huge quantities of it. It sells out too fast. She did talk before about buying bread on sale, but she uses the same bread I buy--the Nature's Promise kind from Giant--and it goes on sale every 2 or 3 weeks, so she wouldn't have to stock up on massive quantities. So the 4 chest freezers thing doesn't make sense at all.
Also, she shops at Whole Foods, fills two carts, and claims she only spends $250 a week on groceries? No way in heck--Whole Foods is expensive! Liar!

Thanks, Viewer and Canadian. Very interesting. Someone in Canada, then, would be much more aware of Boxing Days than someone from Berks County, PA. In this area of PA, it's not widely advertised. A kid most likely would not know about it. Likewise, we don't flip-flop around UK spellings, which is something I noticed in the tweets.

I would think if this were true, the bff at school would know when they went back to school and what grade Cara was in, as well as other dates/events and activities that took place there. "Cara" is so wrong in many of those. Good thought, though, and if weren't for those glaring errors, this could be a possibility.

Layla - I've always thought Kate was a hoarder. For someone who claims to be so fekkin organized why would she need professional organizers to come in and sort out her basement full of hoarded goods - whether or not they were comped, grifted or bought.

The three chicken breasts could be stretched if she does a stir-fry otherwise the portions would be awfully small for 9 people.

And that Kate is a liar - I think it's a given...lol.

In Toronto, Ontairo, in the 1940's and
50's, Boxing Day was a major day of the year.
My family celebrated it there,(along with my sister's Dec. 26 birthday.) When they moved to the States (New Jersey, New York, Kentucky), they were very disappointed that Americans didn't celebrate Boxing Day.

They were also very surprised that the American government didn't offer Baby Bonuses either. With each child you had, the Canadian government would send you a check, and on that child's birthday each year, you got another one. I was born in the USA so I was a bonusless baby. And Canada stopped sending bonus checks for the other 3 Canadian-born kids, too. Imagine that.

Mom could have used some of K8's gr8 money saving tips, eh?

Wouldn't Kate have loved Baby Bonus checks
every year. Why, she'd have her freezers filled to the brim every May!

What would she do if there was a summer power outage? All that food thawing.....
ugh.

Hard to keep the hyperbole straight much K8? I also wonder why she drags a kid out on a schoolnight (no homework?) to do this shopping, after all her moans about the chaos in the house after school, the homework!, the dinner!, the bed ritual! From her tweet times, this trip was not that early either. And smart thing that she is not, another message out to the cyber nuts that she is most likely leaving 7 kids home alone. I hate that people would spend money the very day after Xmas!! I think Black Friday makes more sense although 2AM etc sales don't appeal to me...Boxing Day tradition also called for people to send boxed treats to merchants they dealt with, such as a shop keeper, dressmaker, hairdresser , babysitter or hat maker, in the older times...imagine Kate boxing up her zucchini bread for her helpers !

Hi Fidosmomy. Just stopping by to see what’s new and I thought I'd bring you up-to-date regarding the Baby Bonus. I live in Ontario. It’s been called Ontario Child Tax Benefit for years now, and it’s directly related to your family’s annual income; reassessed every year based on your tax return. As a divorced mom of two in the 1990’s I seem to remember my check amount per month (for the 2 kids combined) was a little over $600.00. An extra check on their birthdays is unheard of to me – that must have ended decades ago. I’ve since re-married and had 3 more kids, and my child tax benefit is now less than $90.00 per month and that’s for 5 kids. You see, my husband makes over 100K. Kate Gosselin would have to hide a boatload of her income in order to receive even the tiniest amount from the Ontario Government these days.

Ann, I have always known Boxing Day as the day when gifts are given to the "help" to thank them for all they do for us. We do not call them servants (as the Gosselin kids do); they are help because they help us with all that needs to be done in our everyday lives. Makes me wonder--does Kate do anything to thank her "help"? She has people who work on her lawn, maintain her pool, clean her house, care for the kids, do laundry. Does she do anything to show her appreciation, or is Boxing Day just a day to go shop the after-Christmas sales? You'd think she would make it a priority to show the kids the proper way to express gratitude. Oh, who am I kidding? She doesn't feel gratitude, so why would she express it?

As a Nova Scotian I can say that when I was 11 years old I was in grade 7. However, a teacher boarded with us and I was taught at home by her evenings so I accelerated past primary & grade one. However, most 11 year old students in, Nova Scotia, at least generally are in grade four or five.

My grandson is two and he is now on skates. We 'learn em early' here :)) Hockey is an option at a very early age, not necessarily in the school system but privately. Also it is not uncommon to see young children ski (slalom) or cross country. Typically in Nova Scotia we have lots of snow inland so these are definitely winter past-times.

Four freezers - hahaha. My grandparents raised 12 children on their farm - without electricity. As a child I remember visiting them and going to the cold cellar to get food out for supper. All 12 were well fed and went on to live long lives and raised caring children. I have to wonder what my grandparents would say about raising 8 children, with the benefit of electricity and 4 freezers; probably "that would be a piece of cake". I know times have changed, but still....

It just occurred to me--the lady on Twitter said she sy Kate and Cara at the Whole Foods on Devon. Devon is out by Philadelphia, which would be at least 2 1/2 hours round-trip. Why would she drag Cara out on a school night for a long trip like that, plus shopping time? I guess the nanny was taking care of the other kids, but Kate just had a whole weekend to herself. It's like she's trying to make things more difficult so she has something to whine about.

Sad.

****
So perhaps Kate is thinking the kids are asking all about her day when in reality it's Kate telling them all about her day, just like after the Deep Sea Fishing trip.

------------------------------------------------

^^ Snipped from Admin's #40 post. I so agree with this, and what Dallas Lady said a bit upthread. Kids that age (7-10 or so) are extremely self-centered. Like Admin touched on, this primal survival instinct kicks in. Kids realize their mortality and they act selfishly as a way to ensure they make it to adulthood. Everything is about me, my parents are here to help me thrive in this world, etc. Bullying also tends to start around that time. I'm a big South Park fan and the creators have said they made the main characters 8-year olds because kids are "total a**holes at that age".

Yes, it is very abnormal to me, to hear all 8 kids praising their mother constantly and thanking her for every meal and "thumbing up" every new meal Khate concocts. I thank my parents now for every meal I have with them, but I'm an adult. I remember cheering on my mom (she is slightly narcissistic) at her Weight Watchers meetings, but I was 13-14 at the time.

I honestly don't think Khate's kids would give a rats behind about her running. I think Khate lies about all that supposed praising, every bit of it. She seriously needs some friends or adult family members, not her children, to support her and validate her achievements. Of course, friendship is a two-way street, so she would need to be supportive of someone else, too.

Regarding the running, what an inopportune time for a mom of eight young children to get so self-absorbed into a solitary sport? I truly think she is escaping something, either her emotions, her children, her loneliness, whatever. She seems to be living in the past that never was, because she was so hellbent on having kids early. That article was a sad read, if only she was that involved in her children's hobbies.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Let's let Kate tell us why she can't shop on the weekend (From Runners World interview):"Psychologically, though, I do my best runs when the kids are at their dad's [Kate and husband Jon divorced in 2009]. I know I can come home and sit on the couch. And that's what I do. I make my egg-white omelet, my salad, I sit down, and that's where I'm found the rest of the day. Literally that's what?s on my schedule that day."

Librarylady---Bingo! I think she has come full circle back to a mom of 8 kids, who just happen to be on TV--oh, wait, she isn't on TV. Now she is a Mom of eight kids who jus happen to spend her day trying to get on TV. Now, that is reality!

No, she prefers to exaggerate on Twitter, or cry to Dr. Drew. Pathetic.

My DIL runs, as does my son; they work full time, are raisng a toddler, have a dog to walk ( or run with them). Sure, she prepares a meal, but is it still considered from scratch when you use jars of brand name BBQ sauce? Packaged pasta? Frozen bread dough from the store? Frozen brand name veggie burgers ? I thought "from scratch" meant you made everything from single ingredients, meaning you make your own sauce, your own pasta, your own bread dough, etc.

2) How much money do you really save when buying in bulk when you have to pay higher electrical costs to run four freezers?

Sorry. I just don't "get" her fantastic money saving coupon tips. What she wrote is basic/common knowledge. Those extreme coupon people would run circles around her.

I know May 15 is the deadline for making full payment for the cruise, but I wonder if RC gave the travel agency a much earlier deadline to come up with enough booking deposits before they take back the block of cabins the travel agency reserved.

Kate has hardly been mentioning it unless someone tweets her about it. Cindy has really been pushing it lately, and I guess she finally got Kate to say something. Sounds like the pressure is on.

And now Kate is tweeting that Joel thought she was in her 40's. She is just baiting people to tweet her and comment that she looks like she is in her 20's, etc. She is so transparent.

You mean that's not on the schedule? I want my deposit back.

PA Parent: in Ontario an 11 yr old would be in Grade 5. They used to have students 'skip' a grade or 'accelerate.' This happened to me- I skipped grade 2 and have a late birthday and put in a Grade 3/4 split, so I was almost 3 years younger than the older Grade 4 students. Not good socially, although I was ok, kind of liked being 'babied' by the older kids & there were some other my age....

Also, does she thinks she's being subtle mentioning her birthday? It seemslike a gentle reminder to the fans that they should start shopping for gifts to send to her.

I notice they are even interacting with some of the more questionable twitter-ers, if such a word exists! Bad move. They should not, if they are legitimate business people, be seen on this twitter account. Arms length at best. Kate should be soliciting on her account if that's what they're trying to do. I would imagine their association with Kate's twitter will be the kiss of death for any future celeb cruises they might be trying to sell. No business or business person would want their name associated with this account = destroyed professional integrity and credibility.

It could be that bookings are so bad that this is one last desperate attempt to drum up business. Usually when a cruise such as this is announced, these interested and those who can afford it will jump at the chance, making sure they get the cabin of their choice. Interest winds down in the next month, and when it comes time for the final payment, the excitement wears off and people come to their senses, realizing the amount of money they will be coughing up, and they cancel. I would believe that this is what is happening; that they had some potential ballpark figure in mind by this time, and it just isn't happening.

Is there anything on the travel page that guarantees that if it is cancelled due to lack of interest, all money will be refunded, regardless whether insurance was purchased?

At least it was good for a laugh!

What is puzzling is that any reputable and successful travel agency who is worth any weight will have done some research into the demographics of the clientele that such a cruise would attract.

They should have known that Kate's fan base consists mostly of older retired women, young mothers who can't leave their families for such a trip, and young teens who don't have the funds to go, and who can't go without an adult with them. With this in mind, either the prices are set accordingly or the trip isn't scheduled at all because they know that they are never going to get the numbers.

When I called the agency and asked if there is a minimum number required in order for the trip to happen, there was no answer. The response was that they were expecting a huge number of cruisers, at least a few hundred so there was nothing to be concerned about.

I guess they just decided to take a chance on Kate. You win some, you lose some.

I wonder if the rules for Kate's cruise via travel agent are the same as the rules for groups. From RC's website:

Group Reservations

Q: When is the deposit due?

A: A per stateroom deposit is due within 30 days of reserving the space for your group. If your sailing is within 90 days of departure, payment will be due sooner than 30 days

Could the reason for the big push to get people to sign up is because the travel agent has to make a deposit very soon?

So, it would be correct for a Canadian student to assume that in the US, an 11-year-old would be in sixth grade? Interesting! Here, most 11-year-olds are in fifth grade, and 12 years old are in sixth grade.

----------

I think it depends on your school's cut-off date for kids entering kindergarten.

Where I grew up in Southern California, most of us in fifth-grade were 10 years old for almost half of the school year. Most fall birthdays, students were just turning 10. Only 1 or 2 would turned 11 in the fall, and they were considered too old...by their grade-level peers. Everyone else didn't turn 11 until the new year.

Marie said...

I'm not expert on portions for a large family, and depending on how you serve it I am a bit concerned.

1. Okay you're pastas, your stir-fries things of that nature that are maybe in something, served with something else you might could get away with it. That is if chicken isn't solely your main course.

2. Chicken breast as a main course, You could maybe get 6 servings out of them if 2 kids a piece share one but then you still have three people left over who didn't get any chicken.

Kate's numbers just can't possible add up.

A box or two of cereal at breakfast, a loaf of bread a day, 42 eggs.

Yet the kids have to share bananas and everyone eats 3 chicken breasts at a meal in total.

I mean, like I said I'm no expert but you can't claim it both ways. Kate's numbers are either obsessively large quantities or miniscule servings. I'm scratching my head not seeing the logic of if this is true, or the logic of why lie about it.

Again, if Kate does happen to go on this cruise I'm thinking of thing of things more in the background here.

If she goes she has to worry about paying whoever is going to look after these kids, for what, a week or more? She has to provide this person with transportation, the use of her vehicle to transport the kids, gas, money for food, emergency money, make sure all school papers are properly dealt with (field trips, etc.), leave an emergency number for someone to reach her if something goes wrong, allow the person to stay presumably within her home for that allotted time.

I could go on but my point it, Kate seems like a drop and go person. How can someone who is a part-time blogger really, honestly afford to do this? I am not your "starving college student" least...I don't think I am but the thought of doing all this is a lot of work or one weeks' vacation. A vacation I add that seems to be going nowhere.

It's either she isn't admitting she still has help on her single-kick or she's really just that somehow lucky enough to have people there to cover for her.

Did Nickie get any takers from her new best tweeties for the all-inclusive trip to California?

Candian East Coaster said...

Marie, my thoughts exactly about the portions. A 'normal' dietary portion is four ounces of protein per person. Three chicken breasts, of average size, wouldn't feel eight people, or nine of Kate deigns to eat 'regular food'.

As far as I am concerned if Kate's lips are moving she is lying. She has such a poor memory she can't remember one lie from the other.

Re school age: In Nova Scotia a child can enter primary if that child turns 5 before December 31st of that school year. So it's possible an 11 year old is in grade six. However, if that child turns five on January 1st or later then they'd be 11 in grade 7, presuming they aren't held back for any reason.

Marie said...

Maybe that's why Kate is always exhausted. I mean I'm exhausted just trying to figure her out!

There is no point, is there? A lie, is a lie and a lie is supposed to get you out of your original state. But it only gets you in deeper.

I'm afraid to see what portions she think will feed teenagers. She has 3 boys. I had brothers growing up and let me tell you: have boy/son, they will eat. And just about anything you've got. I have lived in dorms in the past, co-ed and all. Her boys are small now, sure but just she wait. Frightening...

I know what it's like to have your food controlled. All it does is open that door to eating disorders and from my recovery of two years...it is not a place you ever want to end up. Food eventually in controlling situations goes from the person to the food controlling you. I've been there. It isn't pretty or worth the pain. I still to this day struggle with it and I don't even live at home anymore.

I think her lying is something she's always done, I don't think lying to this extent or moving facts around is something you do later in life it's something I think you're taught either to acknowledge or ignore.

Her world must be so bleak...I'd be uptight all the time too! Either that or have a few ulcers.

-------------------------------------------------

Maybe she enjoys show business and that's why she does more shows? There's a motto in show business; "the show must go on." If I were in her situation I probably wouldn't have taken that call either. I don't answer phone calls right as I'm walking into work. I don't think she would have taken that call if she knew the situation was dire. Bipolar disorder runs in my family, but that doesn't mean I take every phone call from the people who suffer from it fearing they might be suicidal, even though there have been quite a few suicides in the family (mostly second and third cousins, but also a very close relative). It's such a tragic situation. Suicide can destroy the emotional lives of those left behind, leaving survivors feeling helpless and guilty. While being emotionally available for those who suffer from depression is the ideal, it is also a bit unrealistic to expect people to be at the depressed persons' beck and call. People need to have their own lives too.

Regarding rare personal photos...

I've heard of a few incidents in which an indie artist's teen fanbase would find ways to get "exclusive" or "rare" photos of this person. They would befriend this artist's siblings or friends and pull images of this artist from those Facebook accounts. Or using these connections, find a way to access this artist's personal Facebook account and pull images from this private account and post them in the fan websites and forums as exclusive, rare, or personal photos. They also scour the internet including Google images, Flikr, etc. looking for additional personal info and photos of this artist. It's as if they do this to brag to other fans that they have these personal photos or info no one else has and to show who's the biggest fan.

I know Google bots (and other non-Google bots) web crawl through websites accessing files and directories and post images onto Google images, unless you specifically add a code blocking these bots in a robots.txt file. That's why you see so many personal photos of people in Google Images...it isn't voluntary and Google doesn't ask for your consent prior to adding them to Google Images.

I was thinking the same thing about those chicken chests. If she gets them from a chicken outlet, they may come in cuts you don't get from packaged chicken cartons.
2 breasts attached at the breastbone. There might even be wings attached to each side. You cut them apart yourself. Legs and thighs connected to each other, too.

There was a time in my childhood that this is exactly what a "cut up" chicken looked like on its paper tray. Over time they started separating all the chicken parts so you could just start cooking without needing a cleaver.

The butcher has less work to do, which lowers the cost to the consumer. The more steps the processor takes, the higher the cost to you. It takes a few minutes more prep time at home, but not much.

Do you know how small an organic chicken breast is? They are tiny compared to Tyson or Purdue. Of course Kate is so stupid, so she could mean breasts from 3 chickens, but since a chicken has two breast each she says 3 breast. That is like a 1 x 3 inch piece of protein per kid and adult even 2 hormonal 11 year olds. It doesn't add up. I can see stretching protein if you can't afford a lot, but this isn't the case here.
