Discussion thread: Kate Plus 8 'Florida Fun'

Kate Plus 8

Florida Fun6:00 PM on TLC, 1 hr 3 min 2015 TV-PG
The gang is still in Florida, where some of the kids go deep-sea fishing, but their adventure is cut short by seasickness. Later, Mady and Cara look up recipes to cook the family dinner; and the kids have fun on their first trip to a water park.

And she calls her self a clean freak..yuck

Safety first!!!!!!!!!!
Step away from the hot grill, kids. Now eat your cross-contaminated beef.

I wonder if she feed uncle fly monkey this or did he get the safe meat wrapped in foil.

That's a good question. I wonder if he eats any of the meals Kate makes. Maybe she cooks special dishes for him.

But here's the thing, PJ. It could be something was missed in the interpretation of this whole "no grilling" speech. She bantered on and on about not grilling, and if she meant she never grilled BEFORE the divorce because Jon was the grill master, then she should have explained it that way. She didn't, and as a result, her comment about never grilling and turning on the grill was taken as a lie

&&&&

Don't take this as opening the door to politic discussion--I'm not I promise! But Donald Trump remnids me SO much of Kate in how he approaches questions. Much like her, it's like he doesn't really listen to the question or even keep track of what he's saying. As a result there have been many times where he was clearly talking about something else, but if you just look at the qutestion and answer in isolation, it looks like a direct response to the question when it really wasn't.

He and Kate both need to slow down and listen more carefully and be more linear when they speak.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I've watched Dog now and again. The thing I do like about him is how he talks to the people he picks up. Once he's got them detained, he talks to them like real people, like he understands them and wants to help. He's bent over backwards to be lenient with some people he really wants to give a second chance to. He gives a lot of good "come to Jesus" talks to these folks that they really need.

LOL!! A microwave for canned soup and a bread machine that slices the bread when it bakes! Bam! That's all you need.

Oh, I agree with that. They need to THINK before they speak because if it comes out wrong it could be taken out of context and misinterpreted in an entirely different way than what they mean. Slowing down and thinking is the key to it, but I'm not sure that either one of them could master this.

Thanks so much, Math (195)! I think what I will do is just let her have it as a play dress since she likes it so much and if she messes it up even more, it's no big deal. Isn't it wonderful that there will be no presents under the tree wrapped with white remnant newspaper and a name scrawled on it with a black Sharpie. Just presents wrapped in store bought wrapping paper and a bow. Ahhh!

I hope you don't mean me. I am a nurse, mother, and grandmother that works 8-9 hours/day. My commute takes another hour or so depending on traffic. I come home, do things around the house, play a few games on FB and tweet a little. I also am in the process of writing emails to the sponsors of her show. One of the main reasons I got a twitter account was because I got really sick and tired of the momster always getting in the last word/her version of events being unchallenged. I see my grandchildren on the weekends and have a few hobbies which I love to do when time allows.

Having said that, I have noticed that some of the 'haters' as you call us/them are getting a little raunchy. I avoid the name-calling and prefer to tweet excerpts from Robert's book or point out inconsistencies in her statements.

Just watching a few minutes of Master Chef kids and there are 2 teams competing with 6 kids each. There were 2 crates to cook from. New England and New Mexico. The 8 year old Captain of the NE team had the best dish up to that point and that is why she was made Captain. 8 years old. You ought to have heard her talking head about choosing her team and about cooking the dishes that she just made up off the top of her head. AMAZING!

And TFW wants her kids to do food competition on tv?

Good luck on that one. Those poor kids and food. They have been served food on prison trays, denied food, small portions, had to deal with moldy food their sadistic mother sent back day after day. Joel had food spread all over his mouth and cheeks and a picture printed in her cookbook. Boys denied strawberries.

Wow, the 8 year old was just instructing her team member to keep it on the bottom so it will get evenly coated. And they are Yes, Chef.

This long long time reality star loves being on television. The rest of her family? Not so much. She doesn’t care though. Anyway, she is pitching another season of her show which would follow her as she gets ready to be married and married. The one big problem is that her boyfriend has not even asked her and has no plans to. Maybe she thinks she can convince him or something or fake it.

One who spilled red wine on a lovely teal dress at a Christmas party a few weeks ago and didn't freak out over it. Luckily, I got to it before it set in, and water and some liquid soap removed it! And one whose toddler drank too much apple juice that caused an explosion in the diaper and all over the crib. You just clean it up because, well, the world doesn't stop because of it and it's not worth getting all stressed out over it.

So TFW and M go antique shopping? I wonder if the planning for that episode went something like this:

Mom: We're going antique shopping on the next episode.
Teen: I'd rather drink bleach. Or eat your salmonella chicken.
Mom: It's already scheduled. The crew is coming to the set -- er, I mean, our house -- at 7 tomorrow morning.
Teen: What's it worth to you?
Mom: Um...curfew extended by one hour for the next month?
Teen: And?
Mom: A $100 Justice gift card?
Teen: Keep going.
Mom : (sighs) And unlimited iTunes downloads for the next 6 months?
Teen: Okay - wake me up when they get here.

I do not know how far things had progressed between her and Jeff Millionaire, but it would not surprise me in the least she plotted that relationship all the way to the altar. What a ratings blockbuster, right?

So it's unclear to me, as I have read different versions of the breakup, that either Jeff got cold feet regarding filming or they had actually done some filming and she treated him just like Jon which pissed him off. And the guy traveled all the time and it looks like he was still playing the field. I also read that she and Jeff had traveled to Vegas and Hawaii. If that was true, maybe in her pea brain she was scouting out wedding venues. She really lives in an alternative universe so nothing surprises me about her anymore. Maybe we will get our answer regarding Jeff when we hear the blind date explanation. The only thing I know that is a fact is that Steve has been the only constant in her life for years.

NJGal51 said...

Sorry Redbird but I've often written the name on the back of the package with black sharpie. Not everything has to be wrapped perfectly. But that's just me. When you have dogs and/or cats, anything under the tree is fair game especially the bows and tags on packages. We had a tradition growing up (7 kids) where my mother wrapped some of the gifts in newspaper and we had to guess who they were for based on an article or some other clue on the "page". Those were opened last and we usually couldn't wait for them. Pretty under the tree? No, but great memories.

Layla said...

Kate said she was involved in a business transaction with Jeff. I absolutely believe that. The transaction involved "dating" for the cameras. For Kate, it might keep her show going. For Jeff, the publicity could raise the public profile of his company. I believe Kate would have happily staged a sham wedding, henpecked him half to death (all in front of the cameras, of course), and divorced him in a huge public spectacle. Anything to keep filming.

But Jeff backed out. Perhaps he realized that being involved with her was not going to reflect well on him or his company. Perhaps he wasn't willing to give up other women in order to pretend to be with Kate. Maybe he met someone he really wanted to be with. Either way, he said no. Good for him.

So, TLC (idiots that they are) were stuck with their promise of 8 episodes, and Kate was not about to let them out of it. So they had to basically find enough filler to put 8 episodes on the air. Antique shopping. Little horses. Cooking endlessly. Vomit. Boring, boring, boring. I, personally, think it's a good thing if TLC loses money on this. They didn't learn their lesson the first time. Maybe this time they will remember that it's not a good thing to be involved with Kate.

Jim Bob Duggar is one greedy monster.

He knows that the mags will pay for interviews and pictures and the headline, we want to adopt will sell magazines.

The Duggar parents are delusional. They are going through a horrible family crisis right now and they want to bring in an innocent child at this time? They covered up for their son's molesting his sisters and a babysitter. They designed the house to keep Josh at bay from going into his sisters rooms at night. Josh supposedly had his own room where he spent a lot of time watching p***. Then he was caught on Ashley Madison and confessed being with prostitutes and was violent with one twice.

What galls me so bad is when Jim Bob and Michelle were at the conference for people who were trying to adopt and had tried IVF and had been trying for years to get a baby, they stood there at the podium with all of their children and said that THEY were going to adopt. I thought that was CRUEL to stand there with 19 kids in front of people who don't have a child and say, we are going to ADOPT. Some people were so hurt they got up and left.

I read on Pickles FB that the Duggars went to South America for a CANDY trip. They made a trip to SA to GIVE OUT CANDY. Can you believe this? A Canada group went down and BUILT HOUSES for the poor.

Which group did the most good? Duggars-candy, OR

Canada-Built homes for the poor?

Thank you Canada. Oh, Canada!

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Fellow Christians, tearing each other down. This is so sad to me. If you don't think the Duggar's love the Lord as much as you do, maybe it is you who are delusional. All Christian's make mistakes. Horrible mistakes. Is that not true? Josh did not have his own bedroom either. He had a tiny AV studio but his bed was a bottom bunk in the boys room.

And if there are multiple SOS groups going to Central America I would imagine each group has different tasks and age groups. The Duggar's have talked about when each kid was old enough to finally go down there. Perhaps they pick the trip the more of the little kids can go on. The youngsters understand candy and giving it. They do many other things besides handing out suckers. What they are hoping to instill in these kids is to have a servants heart. It seems to have worked in many of the kids, who keep going down there.

Isn't extremely judgmental to say what mission trip is more worthy? I don't see the Duggar's blogging about a reality show and tearing apart a mother and her 8 kids. Likely they just pray for those who don't know Jesus, like you do.

NJGal51, I love to wrap presents in the Sunday comics paper. I wish they would make real wrapping paper from Sunday comics. Like a roll of all Peanuts comics, a roll of Garfield. And I have ran out of tags also and just wrote the name on the present.

It is just the sterile and institutional way she does things. White presents. Writes their names on the presents. No pictures, posters anything on the walls in their bedrooms.

Who cares if the presents are wrapped crazy and are not perfect. The point is that it should be done with love not going through the motions like a robot.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

No, the Duggars don't blog about a reality show.
They just publicly condemn everyone in the LGBT community. Josh made a living wagging his finger about sin, while cheating on his wife. Michelle made robocalls warning people against transgender people in public bathrooms, while knowing her own son had sexually molested 4 of his own little sisters. The Duggars' own behavior has shown that
they are hardly paragons of Christian virtue.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The Duggars are condemning an entire group of people for who they ARE. I don't see how that is anything like a public discussion, even a scathing one, of anyone who has chosen to be a part of the entertainment world and pop culture. This happens every day around the world, here and in a thousand other places.

I'm reminded of that part in the funny Amy Schumer movie Trainwreck where a mother says I haven't explained to my child yet what gay people are!

Amy kind of makes a face and says, um, they're people? They're just people!

Good lord, Gladys! Now we know why those neighbors packed up and left in the dark of night. Such a pest and busybody. Kate should thank her lucky stars that Kravitz lives in the deep south and not anywhere near her.

Something really is seriously wrong with her. A psychologist would have a field day. Can you imagine having her as a mother-in-law?

I don't think I was fully conscious of using the term "out here" but thinking about it, it does fit. The idea of floating through space is quite appealing. I'm going through one of those wonderful/terrible times - lots of good stuff, some anxiety producing stuff and then there's sadness. When I have an hour or so of down time, often when insomnia hits, I enjoy watching or reading the recommendations of many here.

Tucker's Mom - "Getting On" is one of a kind, IMO. Not on the scar of Breaking Bad, of course, but the honesty rings true and the acting is so beautiful. Laurie Metcalf is starring on Broadway with Bruce Willis in "Misery". That may be one to see!

Admin--I believe that article refers to when Kate filmed her birthday episode in NYC. The one where Jamie went to the club with her, and that guy licked her foot.

Didn't Jamie say in the couch interview for that show that she'd scour the country looking for dates for Kate, or something similar?

The new show with her "blind" date is just another recycling of that show. This time it's Deanna, not Jamie, who is pushing her to date. Same old story, with new characters and format.

From 2012:

Gosselin, who rose to fame on “Jon & Kate Plus 8” (later renamed “Kate Plus 8”) and the 10th season of “Dancing with the Stars,” is reportedly shopping her new series to various networks. The details of Kate’s show have not yet been confirmed, but a source told E! Online that the divorced mother of eight “finds it hard to meet men in her day to day life, and so a dating show will give her exactly the help she needs. She is willing to travel around the country in order to meet Mr. Right."

TLC stinks said...

July 2012:

The other day, news broke that “Kate Plus 8” reality mom Kate Gosselin was in discussions to bring a dating show to the airwaves that would feature her quest for love.
It didn’t take long for Jimmy Kimmel to hear the news, and last night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the comedian offered his own promo on what the potential relationship series would look like.

Kimmel told audiences that he imagined that the show would be a “cross between ‘The Bachelorette‘ and ‘The Deadliest Catch‘” dubbed “Escape from Gosselin Island.” The promo then features Sarah Palin shooting tranquilizer darts into 12 unsuspecting random men who are then transported to a tropical island where the mother of eight then stalks her prey.

in the spoof, the men are “hunted like animals by Kate and her eight kids. Who will escape, who will perish and who will be captured and forced to marry Kate?”

))))))))))))
Like beauty pageants and Toddlers and Tiaras? Oh, no way! Just school and church holiday programs/pageants and sometimes for us at home. She's into the fairy princesses and tea parties, girly things. It's a cute time of childhood and I'll be sad to see it end.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I KNEW when I read, Does your daughter do glitz pageants, I KNEW that you didn't, because the loving way you were talking and being such a good sport about your daughter staining the expensive dress with the pen ink.
A Glitz pageant mom would of had an meltdown about how expensive the dress was, can't fix it, have to buy another one, making the child feel like dirt.
Your daughter is very bless to have a mother like you. This is why TFW is going to have an epic fallout with the kids. It will be bad and super epic. And I hate that the kids will have to go through it, because they don't deserve it. We can see i t is festering worse everyday and one day it will come to a boil and boil over and I hope that all the kids are with Jon that day.
I would find it very hard to believe that there were any parents on here that would put their daughters through those kind of pageants like Alaina (Honey Boo Boo) was forced to do, because of all of our standing in agreement for the kids to get of the show. That is our #1 priority for the Gosselin kids is to get them off tv filming with their mother.
She tweeted that when the kids were getting sick on the boat and she was in the middle of reeling in a fish and didn't stop to care for the kids it was because "the fisherman wouldn't take the rod" and "she felt so bad". That is an outright lie.
----
Well, maybe the "she felt so bad" part is a lie. But in all fairness, it's true that she said to the guy "can you take this" & instead he went over to check on Leah. He kept looking at the water - I think he could see how close she was to bringing the fish out of the water & was stalling to let her bring it in.
IMO Kate's love of deep sea fishing has more to do with being the center of attention on a boat with a bunch of men than actually catching fish.
If so, I hope they get to go with their dad or their friends. I can't imagine TFW braving the crowds this weekend to take them. Odds are all 8 may not be interested. TFW usually attempts to makes them sound like they only exist as groups of 2 -- either the tups and the twins, or the boys and the girls. And of course when it comes to wanting to continue filming, they are that powerful group of one that votes a resounding YES every time.
Funny how the upcoming episode description said something like, the kids are starting to develop individual interests. This is a comment about 15-year-olds and 11-year-olds? Good heavens,
human beings do this from the very start of
their lives. Only a horrible mother like TFW
would neglect that precious individuality.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
I might actually find her somewhat credible if she said I love deep sea fishing to catch my own dinner, and then taking it back and cooking it up two hours later. There's nothing fresher or better tasting. It's so different tasting than getting fish from the grocery store.
This is what chefs on the Food Network who do stuff like that rave about. For them, I understand the appeal of deep sea fishing. There is a logical reason behind it.
I guess my point is I think she just blurts out whatever, she loves this, she loves that, hates this hates that, without any substance behind it or much reasoning. Whatever thought pops into her head at the moment is what she says. On a different day, she may find herself hating deep sea fishing. That's just Kate.
I watched the midnight showing of Jill and Jessa: Counting On tonight.
My first reaction is that the siblings who were interviewed (Jana, John David, Joseph, Jill, Jessa,
Jinger, Josiah, Jedediah, Joy Anna) are not "over"
what Josh did to 5 girls long ago, they have simply been repressing their emotions. But they are all sticking to the platform that it was the rehash in the press that caused them such pain. They said they had moved on. It was clear to me, however, that they have not. They have finally been given a voice about how this "mistake" of Josh's left a lot of debris in its wake. This show was their microphone. Deny it or not, kids, you are not "over it". Nor should anyone expect you to be without proper psychological counseling.
BUT...the cheating on Anna thing has apparently fried their toast. Several of them mentioned how hard it was to discover someone you love is "not who you think they are." John David looked truly sad when he talked about how he had always looked up to Josh and had always wanted to be just like him. "The worst of it was that I had to tell my brother, 'I don't want to be like you anymore.'" John David's face was the face of a genuinely crushed man with a good serving of fury mixed in.
My non-Gothard style prayers continue to be with the innocents in that family.
The the tabloid snippets I've seen, I agree that Josh molesting 4 of his sisters and an unknown victim was way more than a 'hormonal teen" to them.
How can the normal boys look at Josh and not be sickened? Especially as they grow older and think about what happened to their sisters? Most normal brothers would want to punch the lights out of someone who violated their sisters like that.
That has to have left underlying anger towards Josh, and perhaps towards their parents.
FlimsyFlamsy said...
I think the Duggar parents have fostered an environment of protection for Josh, of doing their best to minimize it and make sure he gets through this all unscathed. The victims were not their priority and the victims know it.
That is a terribly unfriendly environment to a victim working out their emotions. None of them can possibly feel safe and comfortable to truly face their emotions without fear they are somehow betraying Josh or the family agenda. It's terribly dysfunctional, and we're looking at a lifetime of unresolved issues, sexual and otherwise, if the whole family doesn't get professional help immediately. It's that dire.
My impression is that Hannah and Collin are close. It makes sense now about that blowup Hannah had back at Jon's about not wanting to go home. She may be the one who told Jon how Collin is treated by his mother. She also opted not to go on the fishing trip. I think she is one to watch who will bail. Mady and Cara are just obnoxious. Kate is getting what she deserves from those two.
OK, I am watching this debacle on Youtube. She JUST said "Who is going fishing and who is staying home and cleaning the house?" This is here idea of the kdis "deciding" to go fishing. You know, kind of like "do you want to continue filming or stay at home and have no money and stare at the walls?"
*******
Who wants to stay and not be a Gosselin?
TLC is still showing these moments that show who Kate is. Why do people not believe it?
Just like when they were white water rafting and Kate told the kids there would be no dinner if they got her wet. She was not kidding and this wasn't the first time she punished them by denying them food.
Who does this to their children?
Kate seeks to punish, not discipline. It has always been within her power to stop the cycle of abuse, yet she refuses (because it's not her, never her).
I was absolutely stunned last night watching the Duggar special. Anna is going to stay with that slime ball she married. I would be very afraid for my children. I would never allow him to be anywhere near them alone. She must really be brainwashed by that cult. He broke the vows, not her. She needs counseling from a professional and needs to get away from that family. When is Jessa's husband going to get a job? Cutting grass for your father-in-law just doesn't cut it.
I'm not surprised in the least. I highly doubt she'll get any real professional help, unless it's court ordered for the sake of the kids.
I think Josh has shown a clear pattern of acting out sexually, and that he should be closely supervised until it can be determined to some degree of reasonable satisfaction, that he is not a threat to his family.
The door is still open on CPS getting involved. I wouldn't be surprised if they have different thoughts than Anna on whether she can stay with that slimeball and still keep custody of her children.
I would be shocked at this point if CPS does not take a very close look at their family situation. Sex abuse cases are at the very top, top of their list.
They have to stay in a group so that they can be filmed as a group. If they all went off to do their own thing it would be too hard to get usable footage. It's not about TFW being able to watch them it's all about getting the footage so her fucketybillion fans can watch them.
Why don't you ask me what I, a fundamentalist, think of you a Catholic? Or Catholic's in general for that matter. I think you would be surprised.
I don't know if blogger ate the first one or if I just missed reading it somewhere. Sorry if it's twice.
I rarely defend my position or thoughts on the matter of religion on this blog because in the past I held to, what I thought was the, "don't talk religion or politics", suggested policy. Also, I had noticed that if I did defend and post "MY" opinion in any depth, there are some who would just blast me with an agenda other than defending "their" opinion. I don't care if it's fifty or one, it is still uncomfortable, scary and hurts that others don't respect you enough to allow you to say...what...a few words? More likely than not people are not trying to change you, just voicing their understanding of the topic discussed.
Because I'm REALLY tired of reading, having to scroll or ignore and really liking so many on this blog, I am breaking my silence. I won't use anonymous like I did in the past as to "save face", but under "njay" so you know my real feelings.
I am not out to blast any ONE person but I often don't agree with the passive aggressive direction in which the blog can have a great tendendancy to evolve sometimes. I agree that during the recaps, Admin has a great talent for letting you see the story through her descriptive writing. Her adjectives can sure be a nose, mouth, drink spitting, choking experience indeed. In my opinion name calling in descriptive writing is appropriate. (nyahaaa with caution) I also think that jocularity, in moderation, is another place it's appropriate. I think the tone it is used in is the most important measure of it is appropriateness. When it turns into a put down, I think that is where it crosses the line of being appropriate and can become a form of bullying if used recklessly. When any words are use to try to change or turn around the mind or feelings of others to think ill of, it becomes a slippery slope and is unfair.
Well enough on that subject. I think you know what I'm trying to say. Bottom line…can we please stop with the name calling? It is uncomfortable to read and makes this blog seem like it's veering towards the format of the other blogs out there. You ladies and gents have proven to me that you are too educated and classy for that.
Me. Let me qualify that. I love a water park for myself, a friend or another adult, but not for young kids. I totally lose it if I can't find my kids in the sea of other kids there. I just don't know who is lurking about and one of my big fears is finding that one of the kids has gone missing, no matter how old they are. I'm not a helicopter parent by any means, nor must I be in control of every situation, but water parks with kids is something I don't do, even if I would have other adults along to watch them. It's just too difficult keeping an eye on kids when they are off in all directions. But that's just me.
Here's the thing, too. How could you ever trust him, even if he did get counseling/professional help? I know that I couldn't. I'd be watching him like a hawk around my children, if he's changing diapers, putting the kids to bed, etc. Maybe it's just my very cautious nature, but gosh, I don't think I could live that way even if a professional told me that he was "cured" and it was totally safe for him to be around children. I could never be absolutely, one hundred percent sure of it.
TLC stinks said...
I was always nervous about my kids in crowds, and Kate may be concerned like any mom, but I agree keeping them together is more about logistics for filming. At some point she's going to have to get comfortable with letting go and allowing the kids some independence, like not accompanying them to the movies. Drop them off and pick them up like everyone else. But I get it about the anxiety of keeping track of your kids in a crowd (or was the park cleared for them?). If a section was cleared for them to film, then it was all about the cameras and Kate acting like a mother hen. In that case, she was faking it.
You're not alone. Many mothers who discover this about their husbands leave them for good, unable to ever trust them again. They seek monitored visits for the father either through family court or through CPS courts, and will get it. This is called protecting your child.
The problem is more and more research is suggesting you CAN'T cure sex abuse like this, that there is no cure and that treatment is ineffective. But you at least need an evaluation of him to see where he's at. Evaluations done on men like him are hundreds of pages long and involve multiple interviews and psychological tests. I really doubt that Duggar child has had anything extensive like that that could set a mother's mind at ease.
At least if she had an evaluation backing her up, one that has a professional who has opined he is safe around children, then she could point to that as a reason she is allowing him back. Of course she hasn't sought out an opinion from a sex abuse professional. She's never mentioned anything of the sort.
She has no idea how controlled she is.
What's the end game? The more she is beholden to this family, the slimmer the chance she'll ever break free.
It's a sick circle of control and abuse.
------------
Thanks for the kind words, redbird. There are no competitive pageants here. It wouldn't happen, even if the girls wanted to do it. The same goes for reality television. I've seen photos and videos of Jon Benet and other young Tiara girls and there is no way we would permit putting any children on display like that. I am strongly against it. I've always looked at those mothers as living through their daughters. The sexualization of it is just so, well, creepy. Let kids be kids. They grow up all too fast. Let them enjoy their childhood doing what all kids do, ink stains and all.
Back in the day I did the pageant thing. Was it a good experience? Yes and no, but I won't get into that. I was talked into it by my best friend who was Miss (insert state), and I was in grad school at the time. It seemed like it would be beneficial to hopefully win some scholarship money. Some fun times, but not something in which I would allow a child to participate.
They did seem to have problems with that for some time. Let them laugh. It's good for the soul!
You are so welcome, Serendipity. I took my oldest DS who was I think 4 (almost 30 yrs. ago) at the time for a little contest at Walmart just for fun and had never done anything like that before. When I got there to sign him up I found out the boys and girls were competing against each other, a cute kid contest.
What I witnessed right before they started was so shocking. A mother came in walking kind of fast CARRYING her son who was laying across her arms, with his eyes closed and mouth open and arm dangling. He looked so sick! She had his Sunday clothes on him. The way she did it reminded me of when you take your child into the ER with a panicked look on your face and are looking for help for your sick child.
She was running late and she was trying to get him signed up, but, he wasn't even waking up. He finally woke up. I don't remember if he was even in it and I was just glad it was over with. I swore right there I wouldn't do anything like that again.
Until years later and another ds. I told him there was a Huckleberry Finn look alike contest and I knew that he would win. They had a great prize package but he wouldn't wear the overalls, straw hat and with a piece of straw hanging out of his mouth. lol
I was wondering about this, admin. I don't know what is involved in professional therapy for something like that, but is it possible to "fake" a cure? &&&&
This is my opinion only, but no I don't think most people can fool good evaluators. I've done a lot of research about what goes into a good sex abuse evaluation. One of the biggest issues we face in this system is whether a man who only molests little girls would then present a danger to his own son, or vice versa. And that's where you get into very interesting sex abuse theories about whether someone might do that if little girls suddenly became unavailable, the low likelihood most perps are willing to engage in incest, etc.
It's not a therapist sitting there saying yes my hunch says they will reoffend or not reoffend. Rather it's mostly lengthy, complicated psychological testing.
One test I had explain to me by a sex abuse evaluator once is one in which they predict whether you will reoffend based on how you answer a series of questions. But even the evaluator doesn't know the implications of each question because they don't want to taint the examination. You give them the test then it is scored and the evaluator sees the results. To put it simply, if a question asks if you like the color blue and you say yes and 75% of perps say yes too, then you get a higher score, and on it goes.
Sometimes you get dueling sex abuse evaluators who don't like each other's tests. That's always fun.
Anywho, all interesting stuff and the professionals are working like mad to get these tests as perfect as possible. So yes, Josh should go through an evaluation and no, it's unlikely he could scam it.
The biggest problem of all is that to the best of our knowledge Josh has not had any such evaluation. Come on, if he had, they would say so. They would say the professionals have cleared him now leave us alone. My strong hunch is they don't dare have him go through that and have it come out not in his favor.
First, not sure I believe the tweet about the garbage man getting her cinnamon rolls.
Second our garbagemen whip down my street so fast throwing those bins into the truck I don't have any confidence they would notice a tray of cinnamon rolls on top of the nasty garbage can or worse yet would mistake it for something meant to be in the bin and toss it inside. Does it really work to leave something like that out for them?
I've been following that saga for years.
Of course they have standing. They were students, engaged with the school's career department which made certain promises to them that did not bear out. Standing all around. The question is, were those promises misleading or so inaccurate they violated state or federal law. It looks like, maybe!
The article does a pretty fair job of explaining what's been going on these past several years. This is way more than a millennial whining he can't get a job. This is a shady low ranked school outright lying about their employment statistics in order to lure in students who might otherwise have chosen a different school or taken a different path all together if the school were being honest.
I would like to see for profit and unaccredited law schools done away with. Or everyone needs to be for profit. The mix of the two has been very detrimental.
If you don't go to an accredited law school in this state your stats for passing the bar are abysmal. Another stat the schools misrepresent.
That said, you will almost certainly need to pound the payment these days if you want a job in the legal field. That may even mean working for free for awhile and contrary to popular belief few people make big bucks anymore. After the student loan payment is taken care of for that month, most starting salaries barely provide for necessities.
Few schools will paint such a dire picture, but Thomas Jefferson crossed a line. I had no problem with my school's career department. They got me thinking outside the box, convinced me I was being too picky, and encouraged me to apply more broadly. That led me to foster care law, which I was not, at the time, actively seeking out, and thus an incredibly fulfilling career.
These days, you should only go into law if this is your true passion. There's a good chance you'll work long hours, spend a lot of time staring at Microsoft word, and never make what people think you do. And maybe it's a good thing to weed out those who are not in here because it's truly a calling.
