I am totally confused about Twitter and Instagram. I thought Kate chose Tweeters to follow on Twitter. She said she doesn't have Instagram. Must one have an Instagram account to follow another person on Instagram?

I predict Ian will throw Brandi under the bus and get her fired as PM.
The thing is, I like that Brandi can shut Ian's bullshit down from the get-go.

Problem was, she did not shut I-an down quickly enough. All of the band's time that I-an wasted could have been used to make Johnny's jingle a winner.

Maybe if Kate shut Kenya down, shut down her contacting her hundreds of times over the day, she might not have been fired.

Well I for one had the same old stupid dream that I was on vacation when I realized I had a college final that I couldn't get back for but I also forgot to go to class all semester and could not find the professors phone number.

Oh, yes, I get those quite often. I am either back in high school and can't figure out my locker combination and I can't find my schedule, or I am in college and realize that I had not attended any of the classes in which I was registered. I am frantically trying to find the books I need to take the exams and I have to ask my roommate to borrow her notes.

The latest one involves a math class I needed to graduate, and I find that I never went to any of those classes but luckily the registrar has never discovered it and I just breeze right on through to graduation.

Please Don't Jump On Me -- I'd agree with you, except that, since she was 3 years old, Mady's been told and shown that she's less than, doesn't count, doesn't matter, is low man on the totem pole because of the 6. She and Cara were made responsible, at far too young an age, for their younger siblings. When Jon was away, the only parenting behavior the 6 got was from their very young older sisters. It's caused Cara to turn inward, because she had the more laid back, reticent personality. Mady is the dramatic one, the volatile one, and it's turned her into a complainer, a whiner, and made her even more dramatic. I hold her mother responsible for a good bit of the behavior. Sibling rivalry is normal when there's a new baby in the house, let alone when there are 6 new babies to compete with. Instead of trying to minimize the rivalry and carving out times/places for the twins to have undivided attention, TFMJG exacerbated it by her blatant favoritism. The 6 were her tickets to "fame and fortune". Yes, Mady's whining and complaining would get tiresome, but it's entirely understandable. TFMJG fosters rivalry among her children -- boys against girls, her insistence on birth order precedence, tups against twins. It's on her.

That might be part of it, but I think there's more to it than that. There's a reason she hasn't followed Paige, and it's been what...several years with no follow? That's just strange.

OMG. I'm watching "The Room Project" episode. Can't take it. This woman is bat s*$% crazy.
Like seriously crazy.

According to the "blue prints" of her house, and her tour, there are three bedrooms in her part of the house. The little girls are in one, the boys in another, and then the "little play room" that's serving as a "guest bedroom". Mady and Cara's room is in the other wing of the house.
The little girls don't want to move because they don't want to be separated from their mother. They feel it's not fair for Mady and Cara to be in the part of the house next to mom's room.
The boys don't really care. They could move or not.

Kate decides that Mady and Cara have to be in her wing and then a dedicated guest room.
The girls then, have to move to the other part of the house to Mady and Cara's old room, and they have to construct a new room in the basement for the stinky boys.
She could have just moved the boys to Mady and Cara's old room, and moved Mady and Cara into the boy's room and the guest room. Simple. Easy. Little girls happy, Mady and Cara get their own rooms, all good.
But NO.

................................

Maybe she is not so crazy after all. The tups bring musical instruments home from school. They are now in distant parts of the house...

In PA, what age can a child of divorced parents legally say which parent they prefer to live with? Just curious if there was a way when those kids reach a certain age some could petition to move out to Jon's if they wanted, otherwise, I expect they are stuck with Kate until 18.

I absolutely believe Mady and Cara are on Instagram. Before Organics was suspended, she showed some screen shots. Kate continues to deny, but it would be pretty unbelievable these two 14 year old girls with iPhones are not on social media. I just bring this up because someone tweeted Kate about Instagram and of course Kate answered with her usual response "fakers". Then why would a faker have a private Instagram account?

..................................

To try to catfish gullible fans?

Kate should allow the kids to have social media accounts at an appropriate age. Supervised, of course.

Consider this. I do not do social media. If I submit a job application and they ask for my social media accounts, I will answer that I have none. What can I do if they do not believe me? How can I prove that a private account is not mine?

That is something young people need to think about. It is probably better to have a tame one than none at all. They cannot hide behind the "But I'm an old fart" defense.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

In PA, there is no "age" when a child is able to decide where to live. A child as young as ten can petition the court to live with the other parent. The court makes the decision based on the reason the child want to live with the other parent. If the child says he or she wants to move because the other parent has a swimming pool, or gives nicer Christmas presents, that's just not going to fly. There must be a valid reason for the child wanting to move, and all of that is investigated and then the judge makes the decision.

According to TV By The Numbers, CA's ratings went up this week. But...how can that be???If TFW was the big draw (as Milo claimed), then ratings should have gone down when she left. But the ratings went up instead. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Were people waiting until she was gone to tune in? It kinda looks like it. This week had 6.94 million. I don't remember last week's numbers, but the site says it was a 17% increase over last week. How is Milo going to spin this???? Whatever is a sheeple to do???

Kate needs to concern herself with raising the kids properly so that they do not end up being homeless.

No more abbreviations, please. Unless they are use for repeats in the same post. For instance, first reference to Prescott/Jones in post, use Prescott/Jones, then abbreviate to P/J in later references IN THE SAME POST.

I've recently started reading on another blog, on another subject that I am interested in. I thought I was fairly knowledgable on the subject, but have to think about who C/B, C/L , and P/C are. Not to mention when I/K and S/Z changed partners, producing I/Z and S/K. And those are ones I recognize. There are at least a hundred of them! These abbreviations may save time for the writer, but they waste more time for the reader. I believe they also tend to drive away casual/new readers. When reading a post involves looking up reference after reference, I just skip the post. And if the whole blog is like that, I'm likely to desert the blog without ever getting in to it.

And those references are just abbreviations for people's names. They aren't abbreviations of semi-insulting or insulting nicknames, where there's no easy way of even looking it up. TFW and TFM were "cute" at first, but peppering the blog with more and more of these abbreviations makes us all look high-schoolish and cliquish. Only the in-crowd welcome here, and we become "in" by acting childish. Almost Kate-ish.

I know it's fun to suggest these, and I don't expect people to desert the well-established abbreviations, but no more, please!

When Kenya was willing to swear that she didn't ''steal'' the phone, my thought was that she could swear she didn't ''steal'' it, she only took it to send the message and then got rid of it. It seemed to me that she convinced herself that since she didn't keep it for herself that she didn't really ''steal'' it. Am I confused again?

I was being sarcastic. People tune in to watch a show like CA for a number of reasons, and not necessarily just because one person is on it. Milo makes such a big deal about the so-called "Kate Effect" (good grief, it irritates me when she says that! WRONG KATE, MILO!!!), insisting that Kate is solely responsible for any good ratings. If that were the case, then--Super Bowl commercial or no Super Bowl commercial--people would not have watched if Kate wasn't on it. But people did watch.

I think that K+8 benefitted from Kate's appearance on CA. If there is more filming (TLC), it will be interesting to see how the ratings turn out without the extra exposure that came from CA. As others have said, the numbers are probably good enough for more filming, but how will the show fare without something else to draw interest to it? The ratings for these episodes are far lower than the ratings for last summer's episodes, despite the help of CA. Remember how low the ratings got when it was a regular show? It's possible--even probable--that they will end up that low again.

I don't think Kate could move Mady and Cara into two of the three upstairs bedrooms. I am certain that the "guest" bedroom is for the overnight nanny & other guests. And remember more than likely it isn't just overnight either with the nanny. With all of Kate's traveling she is gone many nights at a time. I think the tup girls will like their new room. There old room was way too small for them. And I am glad the boys are downstairs in their boy cave...they deserve to get away from all the female fighting and screaming. Also I read two comments that said they thought Kate's bedroom was upstairs. It is not. Her bedroom door is across from the back of the staircase in the foyer.

And I think Shoka being in the foyer with Alexis doing homework was very telling. One, common sense tells us that is not where she does her homework. And two I bet that is how far Shoka can only come in the house. That was a weird photo taken with a purpose, no doubt. Even though Shoka was technically in the house, it is telling that it seems he is only allowed in the foyer/basement.

The initialnTFW and TFMJG came from either an inter Jon didI don't remember but I think it was either the Dad's Roundtable written article, or maybe the View. It was around the time of the waiter and gun stories about Jon. Anyway, he (or the writer?) referred to Kate as The Former Wife and The Former Mrs. Jon Gosselin--never as Kate. Someone here shortened them to the initials. It isn't so much hate--more like a she who's name shall not be spoken thing. It was pretty amusing at the time--but, yeah, I guess you had to be there!

I wouldn't count on that if I was Kate or a fan. Her ratings consistently fall until either the contract is complete or TLC cancels the show due to poor #s / unprofitability. I expect any future K+8 'specials/series' to follow suit. She's overstayed her welcome. She's intolerable for any long period of time and I believe TLC knows it. Sure, they'll bring her back for short stints, give viewers a nice break and then give it a try again. I hope they hurry and find another concept to exploit instead of her. And, that she becomes more and more unattractive to their advertisers and we'll finally be rid of her forever.

Speaking of dogs being inside. We have a lab who absolutely hates a warm house. She is strictly an inside dog, only goes outside to do her business and for her daily walk. She's uncomfortable and she pants if the inside temp is set over 62 degrees. In fact, she won't sleep on the carpet or in bed and prefers to lie on the hardwood floor. I've tried dog beds, just blankets or whatever, but she likes to lie where it's cool. She would be in heaven if I'd set the temp to 55 in the winter.

On the other hand, the cats' teeth are chattering if it's 62 degrees. They want it warm, sleeping at the heating vents, or in a sunny window. I can't seem to make everyone happy!

Sure, they'll bring her back for short stints, give viewers a nice break and then give it a try again. I hope they hurry and find another concept to exploit instead of her. And, that she becomes more and more unattractive to their advertisers and we'll finally be rid of her forever.
________________________
I just had a thought about another way that the Gosselins might become very unattractive to TLC's advertisers. It is a terrible thought but things do happen. With eight kids soon being all teenagers, one or more of them may happen to do something that is very unsavory that TLC will not run any more specials. There are eight kids who very soon will be opened to a totally new world that they did not even know existed. That world will be when they discover that their family has been bashed very badly for well over a decade in the media since they have been born. It will be shocking to them to realize that the great majority of the nation does not think favorably about their parents or the way they were raised. And I am not talking about the blogs. I am talking about reputable articles written by professionals in magazines and newspapers. For example, just the articles written by their local paper during the first two years of the tups life were terrible. All the grifting that Jon and Kate did will be shocking and embarrassing to them. Also when they realize that their family was debated by talking heads on tv in a very unfavorable light would be shocking to them. Right now they have been told that the public loves them and that is why they are on TV. When they read Robert's book, holy cow! When they realize the reason their mother filmed them so she can have fame and fortune for herself it will rock their worlds. When they read about all the hate written about Jon's "craziness" in 2009/2010, it will be heartbreaking for them. The kids will discover that their parents were on over 50 tabloid magazine covers the year they divorced. Yes, they know a hint of all this now but they will be shocked at the length all of this was covered nationally. They will hear all the hundreds of tv interviews Kate did about them and how she bashed their own father repeatedly. This will open their eyes to how their mother caused "parental alienation". They will realize big time what a huge liar their own mother is when they listen to her tv interviews. They will re-watch all their 150 plus tv episodes with new eyes as teenagers.

All of this will be overwhelming to them. And there is no telling how one or more of these kids are going to be affected when all of this becomes crystal clear. One of them may act out very badly and that may cause TLC not to film them anymore.

I'm going to continue to use TFMJG for the same reason, readerlady. TFW and TFMJG are for me good reminders that Jon is very much a part of his children's lives. I love that he sees no need to have his time with his children be publicized in any way, unlike TFMJG!

When they were working on brainstorming for a task, the pm would throw an idea out, TFW would wait to see if the others liked or not.

If they liked it, then she'd nod her head vigorously that she agreed that it was a good idea, and then when it didn't pan out, tell Trump that she thought it was a bad idea, but the others thought it was good, so she just went along.

If the others didn't like it, then she didn't like it either. But rather than voice her opinion honestly, out loud to the pm, she'd sit and make mean girl eyes to the others, behind the pm's back.

............................

It was not very often, but Kate was the one to speak out during the brainstorming session of the Circle Line boat tour task squashing Geraldo's idea for a history cruise, complete with a war reenactment. She and Vivica both thought that getting Hooters waitresses was a bad idea; but neither stood up to Sig and Geraldo.

Kate also came up with the idea of having her friends at the salon send hair consultants for the bridal gown task. Unfortunately; that was a fundraising task and it did not matter. Why didn't she have them send people to do pedicures at the Ivanka shoe task?

....................................

I don't tweet and do know the specifics about how the platform works. Let's analyze it together. Why would Kate not want to follow Paige?

Reciprocal followers can direct message the other. Is Paige bugging Kate via DM any worse than by e-mail?

Is it easy for Paige to accidently retweet a DM from Kate or are tweets and DMs kept separate?

If Kate follows Paige, does that mean she can see every one of Paige's tweets, even those not containing "@Kateplusmy8"? Does Paige do a lot of inane tweeting?

From the looks of Kate's timeline, she already has many tweets to wade through unless she has blocked all of the haters.

Those are the only negatives I can come up with.

I think Mady's very resentful of the tups existence--she and Cara were very young when the tups were born and they were shuttled to the sidelines too quickly. After the tups were born they ceased to be children and were then 'helpers'. The twins are the most damaged of the kids, imo.
*************************************

Agree.
Let's play make believe for a minute. If she never orchestrated the tup pregnancy and had only the twins, she most definitely would have pitted those 2 against each other. Cara was well on her way to being the "golden child" and Mady the scapegoat. The damage would have been less, IMO since the rest wouldn't have happened, but you can bet those 2 would have still had a crazy person as their mother.

She was bestowing a follow for those that tweeted a line from the episode so how about when she said to the kids "Do you have any idea how much money this costs and aggravation and I have shingles over it." Yup, what a fuck wad!

====

It's all in good fun. Most of the abbreviations don't stick anyway. I had a hell of time figuring out what TFW meant. I thought it was The Fame Whore.

Our dear Joy in Virginia gives regular UATs (udated abbreviation tutorial) for the benefit of those who aren't familiar with some of them.

Besides, it's a bit of brain exercise. It took me the longest time to figure out who FUFK was.

I hate to say it but when we start nitpicking about the little stuff like abbreviations the only thing Kate-ish about is we might need to think about pulling the stick out.

I don't think she'll ever get back to a regular weekly show though. The kids are getting old enough and regulations on filming during school time are getting strict enough that it wouldn't make for a good series.

******************

But here's the thing. Even if she has the numbers, what kind of a story-line can they come up with that wasn't used before? They've done everything...in fact some things multiple times, such has house remodel, yard sale, vacations, pets, birthdays. What else is left that would attract viewers, other than the ones who are sick enough to want to see this circus act continue?

..................................

One big problem is that the show has become unrelatable, with the globe trotting and the staying in fancy digs. Except for renting that house near the beach, the New England trip was fairly within reach for Middle America. Anyone can go to Plimoth or the ropes course, granted we could not expect get the place for ourselves. Seafood in Maine is reasonably priced when in season.

If they continue to film the show, there are some changes which can make it enjoyable or even beneficial for the kids.

First, not all eight need to be involved in everything. We get it that there are eight kids; twin and sextuplets. That alone is no longer a draw. Use only those kids who are interested in the activity and let the rest have a break.

Secondly, it really bugged me when someone would scream, "End of activity" when they got enough footage. Why not just shut the cameras off and let the kids finish enjoying what they are doing?

Third, many parents complain that their kids have their noses glued to a screen. Many of the things we used to do for entertainment are now pretty much forgotten. Off the top of my head, I came up with this list:

craft and science kits
gardening, not just pulling weeds, but growing something from seed to harvest
mastering the Yo-Yo
coin, card and magic tricks
tying knots
grown up card games like gin rummy, hearts, bridge and poker
birdwatching; bug, butterfly and flower identification
using a microscope
stargazing
building and decorating model cars
building and flying model airplanes and rockets
a chemistry set
codes and ciphers (secret messages)
origami
Spirograph
table tennis
billiards
bowling
Frisbee golf
archery
paintball or laser tag
elementary woodworking

On the last one, Hobby Lobby sells a really cute tool set for kids consisting of goggles, a hammer, a couple of screwdrivers and a tape measure. Get one for each of the boys and any of the girls who want one along with bird house kits. After they have the houses built, they can enlist the help of their sisters to paint them. Then they can watch as birds make themselves at home.

Instead of a high-order multiple sideshow, rework it into a program with some cute kids doing some interesting things you may not know existed. Do society a favor by introducing some real American traditions to the next generation. There are still ample opportunities for product placement and some of these things may become popular again.

Me either. I have two boys and two girls, and homeschooled for many years which put me around moms and their children constantly. Little boys love their moms. They are sweet and protective and so earnest. It's bringing tears to my eyes even thinking about the love in those little hearts that Kate is unable to receive or even acknowledge. They just want to be important to her. Witch!

My son was tiny for his age. (At five, he could have gone to kindergarten still wearing snap-off toddler clothes, but of course I didn't send him that way.) So at three, he was teeny. Once, a bigger and older boy, a stranger, was splashing me in the pool. Quite a few times, I asked him nicely to stop. Finally, my little guy went over and splashed him and, as fiercely as he could (repeating me) said, "Honey! Stop!" LOL. And you know what? That boy did stop.

I don't hate Kate Gosselin. I just find her interesting, in a psychological sense. In fact, I was originally a fan who religiously watched the show in the beginning. Geez, I spent hours watching those marathons when the tups were toddlers. Soooo cute. As time went on, I was put off by her treatment of Jon who was a loving father. Then it got worse as she evolved into a sceeching diva. Now I just want privacy for those kids who are struggling through their teen and preteen years. It's quite scary that they are being raised by a narcissist who invents story lines for her image. I think the people on this blog have totally got her number and she is threatened by it. For example, the Shoka tweet is another example of her knee jerk response to our concern for the dog.

TLC stinks said...

I remember reading that filming would have to stop because Jon and Kate would get into heated arguments, so I think Jon did stand up to her but the end product showed her brow beating Jon. I think the producer egged that behavior on for drama, although I definitely think she totally took Jon for granted and lost respect for him along the way. Personally I think it happened when Steve entered the picture because she compared Jon to Steve.

I watched on YouTube the room exchange and it's my guess, due to the shingles "stress disease", she was on some anti-anxiety meds. She still managed to lose it a few times, so it could have been way worse.

The pumpkin throwing was totally dumb, as was the carving considering the weather was obviously still quite warm. Not anytime near Fall. I also doubt she would undertake a major household upheaval like that with school starting. Really stupid to move everything out of those room and have them put downstairs on the main floor. That meant furniture was moved up and down stairs for no reason, unless the plan all along was to buy new furniture and just had everything dumped downstairs. Still, why disrupt everything like that just so they could film the kids painting? Of course the kids were going to get paint on themselves. She is lucky the paint got on the wood floor and not on the carpet.

Oh, did you notice there is a kitchenette in the basement just before the full bathroom?

Chef (#85), that seemed like the time TFW's "transition" from
cute but frumpy housewife to wannabe starlet began. She had
just gotten a free tummy tuck, and got to recuperate in a rich
doctor's house far away from her 8 kids. Funny how she later
said she was afraid to ice skate because a broke leg would
put her out of commission, yet she jumped at the chance for
a free cosmetic procedure which required a long recuperation
period while she had 6 kids in diapers.

Between the tummy tuck, and that Mother's Day trip to the spa
with Beth -- who probably rues the day she told TFW that taking
care of herself would make her a better Mommy -- I don't think
she ever looked back. That's why her "like any mom" comments
ring so false -- she hasn't been "like any mom" for years.

Good morning, Veranda!
Between dog walks, and cleaning out my car (in the driveway), on this frigid morning, I thought of something.
Isn't it rather funny that during the filming of CA, last March, when NYC was quite cold (certainly below the 50 degrees it was in Alaska), that we ever saw Kate complain about being cold? Her hands freezing? Her decrying that someone has to be miserable?

Hmmm....wonder why that was.

JMO said...

In the simplest of terms, no one here, that I know of hates Kate. But most of us hate her choices involving her kids - the fact that she uses her 8 kids for fame and glory and $$. And shows no signs of stopping the circus involving filming her kids when it clearly has a bad effect on them at this age, as she makes them fodder for public consumption.

Most believe, in MO, that the kids are old enough and have faced enough scrutiny, at the hands of Kate. These kids are 10 and 14 and have earned a right to not film after being blasted on TV for 10 years, and have earned a right to privacy.

If you view the current interactions and behavior of the 8 kids, you can clearly see kids not wanting to film, airing of bad behaviors and conflict, that is not normal, as most people do not film their kids for the world to see.

It's hard enough growing up, without having your mom choose to film for perks, when clearly many of these kids are not comfortable with this, and there is serious dysfunction in that home, as a result of Kate's desire to keep filming her kids. These kids clearly have no choice, in spite of Kate saying they would stop filming once anyone no longer wanted to do it.

This is obviously not happening so her credibility, when Jon alone (the only other adult wanted HIS kids to stop filming, had no weight, as Kate used TLC as a tool, to silence Jon. Not saying Jon was perfect, but it was not longer about the kids, but rather a way for Kate to continue earning money, on the backs of her kids. Not good.

Kate loves to film clearly, but after 10 years, she should allow these kids to have a right to privacy, in my opinion, so they can thrive without all of their lives being thrown out there for all to see. The kids have earned this and deserve better.

I don't care if people don't agree, that is my opinion. I am from a large family, but would have bad feeling towards my mother, if she insisted on filming very private moments over and over and over again. 10 years!! Most children would NOT be comfortable with this if forced to do so, and I think her show indicates how well this is working out for her children.

Mel said...

I think life with 8 kids is bound to be chaotic. Especially with 6 of the kidsthe same age.

It's not as chaotic as TFW makes it out to be, though. And that's what people object to. The lying.

She's not single, she's not poor, she either has a lot of help or can afford to buy a lot of help, a good deal of the chaos is caused by her poor organizational skills, her need for it to be all about her, her laziness, her refusal to adequately parent, her need to live life in episodes.

The room move being a perfect example. There was no need to do all of that in 3 days, except for that's when the film crew was there.

Same with the garage sale. Who schedules a huge garage sale, a teen birthday party, and a family photo shoot on the same weekend.

And why didn't they clean out the house over the summer when everyone was home and had time to do it. Then it would have been ready to go come garage sale time. And she would have had time to price stuff.

Oh, wait. She wasn't planning on having a garage sale in the summer. That was a production idea that came up when HBB went south and TLC was looking around for something to film.

A lot of the chaos is manufactured, or due to filming schedules. It's not poor her. So stop saying it is, TFW. If it causes you so much stress that you break out into whatever, maybe it's time to stop filming.

About Kate ever showing affection for any of the children I remember an incident from the Utah trip. One of the boys (yes, a boy, although I don't remember who) stayed behind while the others were out skiing and Kate scooped him up to hug and kiss him. Afterward in the couch interview she said to Jon that sometimes they are so cute she just wanted to take a bite out of them. Now, I have heard other parents say the same and I am assuming this was all suggested by production because there was already talk about her attitude. When she asked Jon if he felt the same he stiffly said no. Was it because he was uncomfortable with the phoniness of it all? Or perhaps so many things were bad on that trip he was not comfortable talking about it at all. Even though he loved the place enough to buy a condo there, Steve was there and something h
appened to drive Beth away.

So, yes there was a display of affection but, sadly, it seemed tainted.

Tucker's mom...good point.
The way she was bundled up in Alaska you would have thought it was about 10 degrees outside.
She sure didn't seem to be objecting to the cold on CA.

But...all the attention was on her at CA and she didn't have to pretend to care about her kids.
In Alaska half the attention was on the Palins, AND she wasn't being pampered and catered to. No hair and make-up, no ability to disappear with TFM for hours to forage for food and leave the kids in the hands of production assistants.
She had to share the spotlight with the Palins, and we all know that that spotlight is hers, all hers. Nobody takes the spotlight off our TFW.

I think that one of the problems in Alaska was that she was being forced to be a mom, and couldn't just play at being one, and it was causing her a tremendous amount of cognitive dissonance. She was being called out on her lie that she does all this work for her kids.

I still can't believe that she considers herself on equal footing with the Palins. Or Geraldo, for that matter. She sure doesn't get that she's a nobody.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Funny how that "we all must agree to continue filming" was
made when TFW had a whipped husband, and 8 children
under 10 whose opinions were of zero significance to her.
Those kids could barely get their physical needs addressed
(the show had to go on despite injured feet and ear infections
and projectile vomiting on the high seas) -- how in the world
could they be expected to express an emotional need?

Jon voiced his doubts on camera about continuing the show,
and said he wanted to be Jon Gosselin and not Jon & Kate + 8.
And TFW's reply was that they had to do something like
(pantomiming) "iron things out." Translation: "Look, fool,
we've got a good thing going here, and I'm on the fast track
to never having to look at another mediocre patient ever again.
And if I need to toss your sorry behind to the curb to continue
this show, then that's exactly what I'll do!" And that's exactly
what she did.

I am also a Goldberg's fan. My kids all say that I was just like her. The series is based on the family of the creator--except that there were 3 boys in the family. Many of the sweaters the mom wears actually belonged to the real mom. I do think that there is something instructive here. What draws me to the series is that the story is told through the eyes of the kids. I think we all, as kids, experience our parents in this bigger than life, and see things in an exaggerated, amplified way--almost as charicatures. Kids, especially teenagers, are in a narcissistic stage of life ( NPD is never diagnosed in children). The task of adolescence and young adulthood is to move out of that memory, and develop a more realistic sense of their own place and importance in the world. So, in the Goldberg's, we see the memories of what was probably a very loving, overly-involved parent told in a very loving way. The adult Adam Goldberg has successfully transitioned out of the narcissistic stage, and is able to put his mother's behavior in context--that she was motivated by love and did not exist solely to make his life miserable.

I imagine that the G's see their mother that way, too, which is why it must be excruciating to have their lives on display. I think that, like zoo animals, they don't know any other way of life. Maybe there is an Adam Goldberg in that family! Hmmm.....I think that there is!

I thought it was interesting when one of the boys marveled that it was so crazy that people were lined up to buy their stuff. Sounded like something you hear from people who are in the early stages of celebrity.

Maybe there will be an Adam Goldberg in the family, and, in 15 years, Admin will be recapping The Gosselins episodes.

In the grand scheme of life, she is not mentally suited to raising a large family with all the natural chaos.

Hate? No. Sympathy? Sometimes.

I will never have a "Can we talk?" moment with her. But, in my imagination I have some words of wisdom (Gleaned from years of learning...) that I would be glad to share with her.

She needs a friend who will give her a hug and a swift virtual kick in the behind -- both in equal and frequent measure.

She and her children deserve a friendlier, gentler and kinder life.

You can read what happened to her just by reading the journal. Her every wish was catered to by TLC because they were their number one ranked show, a big money maker. I do not entirely blame TLC, though, because the seeds were already planted when she went on the hunt to find a doctor who would help her get multiples. She fooled Dr. Gosselin too, because he bankrolled the fertility treatments. Jon, well, Jon was in love and wanted Kate happy. It was the perfect storm and she got what she wanted. Today, she is divorced and has a house full of raging hormones with a willing ex she refuses to co-parent with. I think she is desperate to not spend all the money on the kids and thus the continued hawking of shows. We all know how expensive it is to raise children and I bet she is just sick that most of her cash stash will be depleted by the time those kids are 21. Some of those kids will sue her if she cries there's no money left when they turn 18.

I don't hate Kate Gosselin. I pity her. She may have lots of material things that most of us just dream of owning, but she's an empty void. There's nothing of substance there, and she'll never be able to fill that void. She has 8 beautiful, healthy children that she is systematically destroying. She had a loving husband who more than shared the burden of parenting with her -- by her own admission -- and she not only tossed him aside, she set out to destroy him too. She has little to no contact with her family. She has few real friends, just sycophants who tell her what she wants and needs to hear. I don't hate her, because there's nothing there to hate. You can't hate emptiness. I do, however, intensely dislike the way she uses her children, the way she treats the people who cross her path, the disdain she shows for anyone she considers to be "less than", the way she tried to destroy Jon for having the audacity to want to stop filming. She's a cypher, a nonentity who will leave a path of destruction in her wake.

"Hater" is an internet term for anyone who doesn't agree with your opinion. When you are too immature or mentally deficient to make a logical argument and back up your thoughts with facts and evidence and examples, you regress to childishness and call people names. That is where the term "hater" and "jellus" come from.

I'll own it. I despise her and everything she stands for. I've heard her lies, I've seen her behaviour. I've yet to see anything that would convince me that she's a decent person. Dr. Phil (who I don't care for) says that the only way to have an opinion of someone is to base it on their history. Her history is abominable. If she ever creates a new history that I find worthy of respect, I'll change my view of her.

I'm not holding my breath.

I agree. the word "hater" is misused - period. If you don't agree with someone's choices based on their choices for the kids, it does not make you a hater. All of us clearly can disagree with TFW's choices, as she is a "Reality Star" LOL and has put herself and HER CHILDREN FOR ALL TO SEE FOR OVER 10 YEARS. Even when the kids are not enjoying the filming, and clearly have earned a right to privacy after 10 years .

You can't fill a bottomless pit.

Hater is a cop out. I think it replaced, "Agree to disagree."
I've never called anyone a hater, honestly it sounds childish and dimwitted. But beyond that, I think I quickly learned that people have different opinions and was probably taught to respect that fact. I think calling someone a hater is rude and dismissive, and honestly do the people who use this term believe we all must like the same things?

and said he wanted to be Jon Gosselin and not Jon & Kate + 8.
And TFW's reply was that they had to do something like
(pantomiming) "iron things out."
========================================================
That pantomiming of the "iron things out" really caught my attention because she did it right in front of Jon's face. She was in the process of ironing him out of her life. I thought it was very telling.

****
Ha! I agree, but they already tried that. It was tentatively titled Twist of Kate, and apparently the footage for the pilot was so horrendous, even TLC execs had to admit it was no good and they shelved it. Then Kate tried talking them into creating a dating show for her, but no one was interested. She tried selling herself as some great cook, and that didn't work either.

I think the kids will eventually revolt during filming. It's already happening, with Cara basically literally turning away from the camera, keeping her mouth shut, and looking miserable. Mady is a loose cannon, and I'm with those who refuse to blame her entirely for her behavior. She and Cara both were treated very poorly by Kate after the tups were born. They were definitely put in the "lesser" category.

Sadly, she's reaching the age where people won't cut her much slack anymore. I just hope that at some point, she can get some counseling to help her deal with her anger and frustration. Best thing that could happen to her would be a greatly reduced contact with her mother.

I don't hate anyone. I strongly dislike a couple of people because of the way they behave. I do not like Kate. She found a way to make money by filming her years of spousal abuse. Americans were hypnotized by the nursery full of adorable babies then toddlers and didn't pick up on it. She is a spouse abuser. Why is it that many Americans believe a wife can be subject to mental and emotional abuse but a husband cannot? Or was it the adorable toddlers that so distracted them they just didn't see. I would love to take a script of any one of the Jon & Kate episodes, and re-shoot it. I would have a man read Kate's lines..how different people might react.
She continued for years to abuse him, probably still does, but she has learned to better hide it. He is the father of those children and trying to negotiate with Kate has been daily misery.
She has abused him physically, emotionally, financially, mentally and legally. Is this all about anger towards her father? Was she disappointed the son of a dentist didn't have the money and prestige she wanted? Why was she so abusive? Heartless and unforgiving, guilty absolutely of parental alienation.

Well, that's disappointing. So much for balance from their father. I usually give Jon the benefit of the doubt but this just reeks of "can't beat 'em, join 'em."

So, how did it go from my kids are suffering and need to be off television to well rounded and handling celebrity well?

Sigh...poor kids.

******
That last sentence is so powerful and so right on.

Like many others here, I was originally a fan of the show. I thought Kate was wound a little tight, but I didn't immediately think she was a terrible mother and a grifter. I thought she and Jon seemed like normal parents in an unusual and stressful situation. But as time went on, I found her behavior off-putting. I think the first red flag was when they show Jon getting up early and fixing some coffee for Kate and either he says or Kate says in a voiceover that she didn't wake up until 8:00. I knew that was not normal. After having my child, sleeping in was a thing of the past. If I couldn't sleep in with just one baby, how in the world did a mother with 8 young children sleep in until 8:00?

Anyway, it just progressed from there, seeing Kate yell at Jon, belittle him, ignore the kids, and otherwise behave badly. I don't hate her, because as readerlady put it so well -- there's nothing real there to hate. But I hate how she treats her own children and makes them put their lives on display so that she can spend the money they earn.

MikeB said...

I don't think Jon has a positive view of the filming. It sounds more like he is making lemonade out of lemons. He has accepted that TFW is going to continue to pimp the kids out on TLC and is just trying to look for a silver lining. His comments the kids are asserting themselves is a subtle dig at Kate and her years of iron-fisted control over him and the kids that she is inevitably going to lose over the next few years.

I'm sure he still believes that the continued filming is hurting the kids emotionally and is the cause of their unnatural behavior on camera lately. It would do no good to say it though since TFW would likely punish the kids for letting on to Jon that they aren't happy filming.

Overall Jon does seem happy with his lot in life, but I get the feeling he has accepted that which he cannot change rather than actually having a positive attitude toward his kids continued work for TFW's luxury lifestyle.

================

Eons ago on here, we discussed this and (as I remember) concluded that we're properly termed "critics" not "haters." Some of us feel hatred toward her and some are just critical or disappointed or saddened or disgusted or what have you. Me? I hate what she's doing to those kids by putting them on TV. I hate the behavior, not the person. I do dislike Katie, though.

The way "hater" is misused these days allows celebrities or pseudo-celebrities with poor behavior to cast their blame back on those calling them out. Labeling someone a "hater" is a convenient way to deflect from oneself. It makes the critic sound like the problem, not the person whose behavior is being called out.

Reality stars and rappers seemed to be the first to jump on this bandwagon--"haters gonna hate." No surprise--those folks have some of the worst behavior amongst the famous.

Jon probably would have had them downsize and go to public school if he were in charge. But now several years later, his children are used to the mansion and private school thanks to Kate insisting on it, and now he is between a rock and a hard place.

I can see him thinking well I'm willing to rip the bandaid and scale back their life but if you're not, then the extra expenses beyond what *I* would normally spend are on you.

Perfectly reasonable. That sort of thing is like once you start kids down that lifestyle, it's very hard to turn them back because then you're pulling them out of school and from their family home. I think though eventually they're going to be living more normally, if only when they are adults. They are going to have a huge wake up call someday.

"He tries to keep his children grounded and takes them roller skating every Saturday at an old-school roller rink with a wooden floor and glow bowling on the weekend.

"I'm spending a lot more time with them since I'm a DJ," he says. "I can drop the kids off at 7 and head to work. I schedule work around my children's schedule. Seeing them is way more important."

He says they think his new job is cool and on New Years' Eve, 13-year-old Maddy called him and requested a song by One Direction. He didn't have it, so he played Taylor Swift instead."

The other day I posted something from a blog about narcissists about playing games with a narc and the writer hit it right on the head, imo.

I think this could very well apply here, again, with Jon:

~One of the most effective ways of ‘winning’ a game with a Narcissist… let them win. If you’ve been in a relationship with a Narcissist for a while, you’ll know that at some point they stop being ‘nice’ to you, it’s an effort for them, and they switch to being mean.

...Don’t try to prove them wrong, that’s what they want, that gives them what they need, all of your passionate attention. Tell them they are right and walk away. You agree with them, you are the bad daughter or son, the toxic friend, the negative lover, you’re bad for them and will always hurt them, they need to get away from you, move on, let go. Can you do that?~

Maybe this is what he's discovered finally when dealing with Kate. Let her have her way. She won't back down, she'll never give in. He might not be waving the white flag, but saying these things to shut her up. Surely he can see those kids are not happy being filmed. Not all of them anyway.

Really, how can she react negatively to what he's said in this interview? She can't.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Agree Auntie ANne.

Frankly, Jon sounds like he's operating straight out of a therapist's playbook for dealing with someone like Kate. It does no good to tell Kate every which way she is wrong. It will only make it worse. It's the old cliche give me the courage to accept the things I can't change.

Exactly. But Gladys and the sheep swear that everything Kate says is true, so if she says that the dog comes and goes as he pleases, is allowed everywhere in the house, they will believe it and the "haters" won't. Nothing would be resolved, so it's really just a wash.

We have no idea if what few details Kate has said about her childhood are true or not. Kevin seems normal. Kate may just be exaggerating to gain sympathy. &&&

I gave her the benefit of the doubt on her upbringing because based on some of her behavior I really thought it's possible she was abused.

But then sometimes she makes snide underhanded comments like her parents wouldn't let her ever try lobster, and she losses credibility. It's ridiculous to be bitter about that. As I said in my recap lots of parents even those with money might not get their kids lobster. What a silly thing to hold a GRUDGE about.

Yeah, that happened.
It would have been funny if Jenny wasn't such a saint for putting up with that schlub.
Jenny, I believe, thought about doing another rtv show, based around her blending families with her new husband, and of course, their new baby.
So far, that hasn't happened, and I'm not quite sure why. I can only hope that Jenny sees just how destructive it is to put your family on tv, and make a better choice.

@Kateplusmy8 @Caro13lan 2/2 When they're trained to be outside which this trainer may do, the dogs will instinctively prefer to be outside.

We adopted an eight-year-old dog from the shelter. He had spent his entire life as an outside dog on a farm. His owners died and their son agreed to take the dog, but once again, the dog was banished to the outside.

Long story short. Nobody wanted him because he was an older dog, and no longer a cute puppy. When he came to live with us, he never wanted to go outside. He loved being with us, was totally spoiled, slept at the bottom of our bed and was happy inside until bone cancer took him away from us. I miss him.

From the article on Jon:
"He tries to keep his children grounded and takes them roller skating every Saturday at an old-school roller rink with a wooden floor and glow bowling on the weekend.

"I'm spending a lot more time with them since I'm a DJ," he says. "I can drop the kids off at 7 and head to work. I schedule work around my children's schedule. Seeing them is way more important."

He says they think his new job is cool and on New Years' Eve, 13-year-old Maddy called him and requested a song by One Direction. He didn't have it, so he played Taylor Swift instead."
******
Say what you will about Jon and his job history -- he's like a Timex watch. Takes a beating and just keeps ticking. At least Jon keeps on trying, with his limited education and skills --- not to mention, 8 kids that he wants to see as often as possible. I hope this DJ job works out for him and I think he'd probably be fairly good at it. He's likeable, he enjoys chatting with people.

I also believe him when he talks about the activities he and kids do together. He was always the parent who would actually enjoy playing with the kids. I think it's great they get to go roller skating and bowling with their dad. They will have to deal with their mother's affect on them as they grow into adults, but I do think Jon is their saving grace. At least they have one parent who loves them and will provide them with genuinely happy memories.

I too agree with you. I think Jon is resigned and knows his kids are going to continue being filmed as long as TLC offers. I also think he knows the shows have been crafted to make Kate the centre of attention so she looks like super-mom extraordinaire. My feeling is that the producers say, "how much can we throw in one episode so people will watch how much Kate can handle as a single parent." I am sure Kate encourages this so she can garner both sympathy and admiration from her viewers. Her children's reaction to all this chaos is ramped up to highlight how much MORE their poor mother has to deal with.

Perhaps they go to Jon's and say. "Well, we all had to pretend how mad we were having to clean up the basement, and yell at each other for the cameras" Maybe this is what Jon is saying, the kids know their part in giving TLC what they need so their mother can keep getting a paycheque.

My cockapoo is 3 weeks post-op laminectomy. She is able to walk with a leash and belly sling for support, a bit drunkenly and collapses now and then.. She is annoyed at being confined ( a week to go, with modifications for safety) and sulks! We are trying to find busy toys that won't strain her neck or back and snacks that aren't fattening to occupy her, plus are spending a lot of time with her. As for her bowel and bladder, she knows she has to go, but can't always perform- she is a modest girl ;)- so this means many trips out in the frigid air along an icy path between going-on 4 feet high snowbanks. But our girl is back! We are hoping for further improvement of course, and some days are better than others. Thanks to all for your suggestions and encouragement and also to those who aren't scolding me for being OT!

I wouldn't think so. Taking the high road is often preferable, but by speaking out in an article written as an update on what he's doing now in the area, it's at least proving that he does, in fact, have a job that he likes, he sees his kids, he's not throwing Kate under the bus and she will have no snippy, underhanded response to this. If she continues to snipe at him about his not seeing his kids, at least there will be some record of him showing that he does have a job and he hasn't poked at her. She's the one who will look like a bitter ex.

If she continues to infer that he is a lousy parent, if he says nothing at all, the speculation could be that she is right and he just doesn't care.

Jon is trying to build a career for himself. He is interviewed and that helps him further that career. Of course he's going to be asked about the kids. That's why we know his name. However, there's a hell of a difference between mentioning spending time with his kids and forcing the kids to work. If he was schlepping the kids with him on gigs to draw eyeballs, I'd have a problem with it, but he's not, so I don't.

I don't have Twitter and I still don't get this following obsession. Why would Kate want to follow a teenage stranger? Will she befriend her and read her tweets? Just the idea of being "followed" seems kind of weird (and creepy) to me.

My dil (the TFW clone)....her children are very much the same way as the Gosselin kids. Constant chaos and fighting. The kids can't be within 100 feet of each other without fighting, yelling, screaming about something. Lots of physical stuff, hitting, biting, scratching, pulling hair.

And the mother is the same way. Constant yelling, screaming, picking at the kids, the girl especially. You never know when she's going to haul off and whack one of them, or pull the girl's hair, or push one of them, grab roughly at them.

It never stops. It wears me out just listening to it. Not to mention the emotional chaos is causes me (and the kids). The little boy (age 8) is on the verge of being kicked out of school, already having been kicked off the bus for bad behavior. Sound familiar?

And the mother complains constantly about how badly behaved her children are, and wonders why they're like that. I don't wonder at all.

Interestingly, she also plays the woe is me card. All the time. Poor me, my kids are so horrible. I have to work so hard being a mom, work, work, work.

And yet she has girls night out once a week, brunch with girlfriends one weekend day every week, if not both. Her mother takes the kids a lot, my son is a very involved, hands on dad, I take the kids whenever I'm allowed.

I think it so interesting that both sets of children are so ill behaved, and both mothers think they are an overworked, abused mom when in reality they have life pretty easy...and are horrible to their children.

My dil takes pleasure in being a mean mom, it gives her pleasure to make the kid cry or cause them pain. Very much the same way TFW takes pleasure in tormenting her children.

There is such commonality between the two women it's scary. It must be a psychological thing of some sort. I wish I could figure it out, for my dil anyway.

Playing devil's advocate here, but the reality is the Gosselins are gonna film. It's gonna happen. I wonder if it might be upsetting for the kids to constantly hear from Jon how much he hates it and wants it to stop. Like most kids they probably just want their parents to get along and since Kate is never going to come over to Jon's side, he is the only one who will be able to budge. And it takes the wind out of her sails, naturally. A different child may desperately need to feel like their other parent doesn't support what the parent is doing, so I really don't know what you do in this situation other than just try to be positive.

She does need help and I too appreciate you are sympathetic. But at a certain point a grown woman needs to take control of her own life and her own state of mind.

Everybody has issues. Some more than others. Not everyone refuses to deal with them productively. She needs to go to therapy, be open to things like medication and things of that nature, take intensive parenting classes and child development, take her family off TV so she can heal, and she needs to work hard and try to change.

If you have done everything you can to deal with your childhood issues and are still struggling to behave in a normal manner, then I see where sympathy might come in. But until she does that, I don't much give her a pass. She is responsible for how she deals with things now.

But if much of this has to do with narcissism or a personality disorder, is there ever a cure? Could she heal, even with therapy, medication, help dealing with childhood issues that still might exist? I mean, if one is able to overcome whatever is bothering her, doesn't the narcissism still remain, and how do you deal with that? Doesn't that personality disorder really come into play with the parenting/control issues that she has?

I guess my question is...if there are two (or more) things going on with her, such as narcissism and not being able to reconcile something painful from her past, will she ever be able to heal and move on if a narcissist never really changes?

I think we have seen that Jon has always been aware that his children have different personalities and different needs. I don't believe that they are afraid to talk to their father about their feelings, and that has to be huge for them. Yes, silence is a reaction, which is the third problem with the feeding metaphor. Not only is it behavior, but it is highly rewarding behavior to trolls. The important thing to remember about trolls is their purpose. It isn’t to get attention for themselves per se. It is to control the conversation. Sure, some trolls show up out of the blue to say, “Derp, I’m an asshole”, and wait for the show to start, but that’s very rare.

The majority of internet trolls show up when something contentious is being discussed or when someone contentious (like a non-white, non-male, non-heterosexual, non-capitalist…I think you get the idea) is doing the writing. If nothing happens when they attack the writer, except that their targets get a little quieter, once again, they are only getting what they want.

Combine these three factors, and unless we speak up and say, “This is not the behavior I want anywhere near me,” all the trolls get is reward for their behavior. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a discussion to be had about how to deal with trolls without sacrificing the conversation. It does, however, mean that it’s very much time to stop telling us to ignore the trolls.

**********
It could just be that simple. Kevin does seem normal. My DH and his sister, two years apart in age, grew up in the same household, same dysfunctional parents. He has NO idea what she is talking about most of the time when she describes things in their supposedly mutual childhood.

Was Kate abused? Who knows, by all accounts it was a strict and not very affectionate childhood. Might not be more than that, she could simply be the family narcissist. Her behavior got worse as she manipulated her life into the world of reality TV. Jon is probably doing the better thing by not fighting with her, no winning with a crazy person. Perhaps he has actually talked to the older girls about this, so that they know he care and has not abandoned them. We simply do not, and should not, know. Glad they have more time with him, and normal time.

And yes, Kate will continue to film the shit out of them as long as she can, but it is also possible that with a major meltdown threatening by more than one of the kids, TLC may be forced to back away soon. And seriously, who is she going to film when the tups turn 18 and she's pushing 50. Jon at least knows how to get a job.

You are having the kind of winter we had last year. It's been cold here in January, but only a coating or so of snow that melts the next day. I didn't even have to get out a shovel yet this season. Heck, I didn't even have to use a broom! They were predicting about six inches on Sunday, lasting through Monday and even Tuesday, but now it's changed to just rain, with the high on Sunday reaching 50. It's either brutally cold (windchills below zero), or spring-like temps. Nothing in between.
